Mechanics:
Dragons Lore: Dragons are sentient as long as they are bound to a human and only when bound to a human. When they are bound to a human, their brains are interlaced, sharing whatever they see or think with each other. If this bond is broken, which is hard to do, the dragon will generally go insane unless it was naturally as in the case of the masters death. However this does not apply to humans. Dragons are either elemental or mana based. In the case of elemental dragons, they may have one element (earth, water, air, or fire), or all of them. Some dragons have combinations of power (see elemental section) giving them the special combination of those elements. A mana based dragon however only shares their mana with their master and is unable to cast spells. Dragons come in a few sizes. Dreadnought class are massive dragons bigger than castles capable of massive destruction. Destroyer dragons are the medium size dragons more suited to maneuverable air combat. Minature dragons are only large enough for humans to ride them, often a bit larger than hums. Destroyer dragons have the most variety in dragon type however and are the most common. The size and power of a dragon are determined by the wealth of the respective owners. It is impossible for a normal dragon rider to have powerful dragon. Only high ranking nobles or their sponsored retainers can own powerful dragons especially Dreadnought class.
Argan Lore: With magic being as dangerous a force as dragons, all families with powerful magic in their blood were folded into noble families. The only truly powerful magicians all come from noble families. Also to get a good training in magic, there is the magic academy for those who can afford it and for the extremely wealthy, private tutorship which always breed the best magicians. However, elves also have magic, but they are very rare in the human world to the extent that there are only two elves in Argan. Dwarves are non-existent of their mountains with their constant fight against the orcs. The Church of Argan has a powerful presence in Argan with their own military using their highly secretive magic. To attempt to leave the church with knowledge of the Holy magic means death. A king once attempted to steal the secret, and the church subsequently executed him and installed his son as king.
Currently Taraven Argan is king of the country, recently installed as king. General Soran Targan, head of the Targan family is general of the military. At current power the army stands at a hundred thousand men and ten thousand dragons. Muskets and cannons have entered the battlefield.
Magic
There are two type of magic in this world, elemental and mana based. Elemental magic is basically controlling the elements. Combinations of the elements like fire and mud create lave, wind and water create lightning, wind and fire create explosion type, earth and water create wood. A full elemental cannot wield mana magic (spell casters). Special family lines can manipulate two joined element (Water and air) along with mana magic, and some people can have mana manipulation and an element.
Mana manipulation opens up several types of magic. Basic manipulation that first must be learn is focusing mana on certain parts of the body to strengthen or speed up healing and secondly displacing mana from the body allowing mana shield however weak based on strength. From there one may take a step into healing magic, further mana manipulation gifts (body strengthening, mana threads, advanced shielding), Illusion magic, summoning, Mind manipulation, sealing, and sensory magic. A highly advanced magician can practice three or four of these specializations.
In what it takes for a magician to cast a high level spell or elemental cast, he has the power of casting three medium spells and nine simple spells. However, a massive spell takes up two or three times the mana that a high level spell costs.
Magicians fall in five categories that determine approximate strengths. One can be in between these tiers. This also refers to the medium level. The area a magician has focused on will require less mana.
Novice: One high level spell
Practitioner: Three high level spells
Expert: nine high level spells
Master: 15 high level spells

Divisions of the Argan army
Black Dragoneers: Assassins, Scouts, etc
Green Dragoneers: Normal dragon riders
Gold Dragoneers: Elite dragon riders
White Dragoneers: Healer dragon riders (they usually have a mana dragon)
Black Dragoneers: Commanders of Dreadnought dragon (Dreadnoughts have a crew of at least 10 warriors)
Musketeers: Normal infantry men
