As per usual, please follow all RPN rules. Drama, bullying, or bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. This roleplay is strictly 18+, and will contain and explore themes of corruption, violence, murder, really all of the things you'd expect from an assassin focused roleplay. Trigger and content warnings will be enforced.

Adele has long, coarse, dark brown hair that she styles in various ways. She most often straightens and then curls it like THIS, taking care to keep it from damage.

PHYSIQUE: Adele stands at 5'8โ€”tall for a woman. Although her silhouette is slender, her body type is more on the athletic side from years of training and physical labor.
SCARS: Adele has many scars, but the most notable is the scar that curves from the right edge of her mouth to just below her right cheekbone. It is deep and purplish and was the result of a serious knife wound that almost tore through her cheek completely. It is the first thing most people will notice when looking at her face. Knowing that femme agents are often valued for their looks and ability to seduce, she's become good at covering the scar with makeup and a small piece of prosthetic cheek skin. She only does this sometimes, though. The coverup would only be noticeable to someone who was looking for it.
BODY MODIFICATIONS: Adele has pierced ears and a tattoo of a cypress tree under a full moon on her back.

PERSONA:
Adele is like a sculpture: dignified, firm, and stoic. She is on the reserved side, valuing her privacy and alone time. Unlike many in her line of work, Adele is not at all deceptive. She navigates the world with earnestness and with purposeful honesty that dances on the line between gentle and brutal. If authenticity won't do, she doesn't resort to faking. Instead, she hardens, hiding her mind's workings behind a marble-like exterior. She is not sweet, nor is she cruel. She observes the world like the Moon: with a certain aloofness. She softens at its beauty. She grimaces at its hideousness. With ruth, she watches it burn and feels herself become the destruction that she hates so muchโ€”the destruction consuming the beauty.

Behind her stony surface lies an artist's mind. One couldnโ€™t tell by looking at her, but Adele is sensitive in a specific way. She finds herself enchanted by the sights of the world: mountains, waterfalls, the Moon, sometimes people. She uses visual art as a means of capturing and appreciating these sights. Her understandings of the world and of being alive are connected inextricably to this artist's sensitivity. She often looks at her life and appraises herself as she would a work of art. This results in wistfulness and regret for some of the decisions she's made; she doesn't like what she sees. To press forward, she has to remind herself that she can't undo her mistakes and that she is not responsible for living off of the heat of a world on fire.

Adele works well with others since sheโ€™s even-tempered and not one to bother with matters of ego. She's not friendly; she's just not inimical either. Small talk bores her, but sheโ€™s not opposed to a decent conversation. She enjoys planning and making calculated decisions, apparent in the way she produces detailed pencil sketches of paintings before creating them. She is, however, adaptable when needed; any good survivalist must be able to improvise. Adele tries to avoid allowing herself to be weighed down by emotion. Most of the time, it is easy. Sometimes, it is difficult. She keeps herself grounded by having a set of self-prescribed principles that she steadfastly stands by.

One emotion that triumphs over herโ€”that gnaws through herโ€”is the desire to exact vengeance. Adele and revenge have a complicated relationship in which revenge often domineers. This hunger for revenge is fueled by profound inner sorrow. She knows that retribution can't heal that sorrow, but it createsโ€ฆ something else. Maybe, that "something else" is the feeling that Adele has done her best to fight against the ugliness of the world: a sort of vindication. Or maybe it's simply the release of deeply-buried angerโ€”anger that Adele will deny she harbors. Regardless, no tears will betray her rue, and her rage is betrayed only in the actions she may come to regret. Otherwise, Adele maintains her lunar spectrality: patient, precise, and anchored to the world by the gravity of something unnameable.

Due to her upbringing, Adele's the nature-loving type, so watching wildfires destroy forests and humans bring animals to extinction has planted cynicism deep in her heart. Apocalypse is manifest, she thinks. Adele does not fear damnation; she believes it is already upon us, in the vileness of the people and things that eat away at the beautiful Earth. She wonders: what is the best revenge I can have against this burning world that has taken and taken from me? A voice in her head answers: to live in its fire. To learn to control its flames.

Survival Skills/Endurance // The highlight of "Lady Lazarus" is her resolve to surviveโ€”or, rather, to resist death. Adele possesses a wealth of survival skills and knowledge, and she excels in tracking and pursuing targets that seek to hide in remote, harsh places: deserts, tundras, tropical rainforests, and beyond. For any given contract, she knows what to pack, and she knows how to make the things she can't pack when she gets there. She can start fires, craft weapons and traps, and forage and hunt for food. She will chase targets to the ends of the Earth with no hesitation because she knows how to live at the ends of the Earth. She tracks her targets as she would track animals: a predator hunting prey. These skills, paired with the remarkable endurance that has gotten her through multiple near-death experiences, are what earned her her aliases.
Stealth // Adele's other greatest asset is her ghost-like stealth. She can slip into the dark of night with ease and also hide in broad daylight with little difficulty. She's been keeping a low profile her entire life, so she's used to it. She knows where to stand, how to move, and how to dress to render herself practically invisible and undetectable in most given environments. This extends to a talent for camouflage and being light on her feet so as to not make noise.
OTHER SKILLS:
First Aid // Adele, although no expert, is capable with first aid as an extension of her survival skills. She can disinfect, suture, cauterize, and more. Being able to patch up her own wounds or the wounds of any allies often comes in handy.
Gunplay // Adele learned how to use a bow early on in lifeโ€”her aim transferred over fairly well to guns. She is a good shot and has familiarized herself with how to effectively use various types of guns, giving her somewhat of an edge in ranged/armed combat.
DEFICIENCIES:
Hand-to-Hand Combat // Adele's early combat training was either with things she couldn't get close to (elk) or things she didn't want to get close to (bears). This led to her aptitude with guns but left her weaker in hand-to-hand combat. Adele is at her strongest at a distance and pales in close quarters, especially without weapons.
Deception // Although Adele can blend into her environment, if she is picked out and spoken to, she's not likely to give the most convincing performance. She finds deception annoying and impractical and hasn't honed it as a skill. Her lies and attempts at impersonation are mediocre at best and laughable at worst.
The Scar // Without access to her prosthetic skin and makeup, Adele's scar will be on display for all to see. Not only can this compromise her identity and interfere with her ability to keep a low profile, but it can also bar off seduction as a possible method of getting to targetsโ€”because of her scar, many people don't find her to be very pretty.
Nicheness & Limited Assassin Training // Adele wasn't originally trained to be a hitman; she was trained to be a survivalist. She has only undergone hitman training in more recent years. While this makes her the perfect choice for some contracts, it makes her less suitable for a lot of other ones. She can find herself outclassed by more sophisticated hitmen in situations where the niche parts of her skillset aren't useful (i.e. when her survival skills provide no edge, when the target doesn't require tracking, etc.). Often, she has to rely on her endurance to brute-force her way through contracts that are out of her comfort zone.

LIFE AND HISTORY --
DAY JOB:
During the day, Adele works as a freelance fine artist who specializes in paintings. Her works are often displayed at galleries/exhibitions and bought by the visitors. She does a lot of landscape art, using the various places she visits for contracts as references. She's a rising star in the fine art scene, especially in her home country of Switzerland. She's known for including nightmarish ghouls or monsters in the backgrounds of otherwise scenic landscape paintings; critics speculate that it is a commentary on environmental degradation.
RESIDENCY: Adele has two main residencies: a nice apartment in London and another in Zurich. She mainly stays in the one in Zurich between contracts. She loves the town for many reasons, one being that it reminds her of her mother. When staying in New York (and abroad in general), she just stays at The Continental.
FREQUENT HANGOUTS: Adele can often be found at galleries, art museums, bookstores, cafes, or at home. She'll attend the occasional party if she has to for day job-related reasons, such as establishing connections with art curators.

BIO: (tl;dr notes version:
- adele's mother was a hitwoman (lotty) who was fleeing from a crime lord (greg) b/c she had broken a blood oath she had with him and he would want revenge.
- adele lived in hiding with lotty in switzerland basically her entire childhood. she grew to love painting and discovered she had a sleep disorder.
- she had her first near-death experience at fourteen after sleep-walking off of a cliff.
- greg tracked them down and killed lotty. he was confident that he had killed adele too, but she miraculously survived.
- three years later, adele killed greg as an act of vengeance for her mother and learned that her mother was called upon by greg to kill adele's father, which is why she broke the oath.
- adele was recruited and trained by the sister of greg (jade) in exchange for executing a list of contracts for her.)

Adelaide was born to Charlotte Winterbourne in a hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. It was December 4th. The first snow of the month was coming down. In her hospital bed, Charlotte curled up with her newborn and watched the snowfall through the window. The father wasnโ€™t present, but the nurses didnโ€™t inquire about it.

Charlotte was originally from London and had fled to Switzerland upon learning she was pregnant. She had been a hitwoman, and she was now fleeing from the obligations of a marker: a blood oath that she couldnโ€™t bring herself to fulfill. The holder of the marker would be searching for her and her newborn child very soon, seeking punishment for the broken promise. Charlotte, however, was determined to keep Adele safe.

Adeleโ€™s early years in Zurich were peaceful. She and her mother stayed in a small but pleasant apartment. Charlotte worked multiple part-time jobsโ€”barista, cashier, janitor at a local art museumโ€”to provide for Adele whilst keeping a low profile. Little Adele, for her safety, was almost never allowed to leave the apartment. She was home-schooled and had a long-term nanny whom Charlotte had thoroughly background checked. As a toddler, Adele took to standing at the window and watching the people outside pass by. To sweeten her isolation, her mother brought her toys and candy. One day, inspired by something she witnessed during her janitorial shift at the art museum, Charlotte brought home paints and oil pastels. Adele was instantly drawn to them and began doodling. Before long, her doodles turned into impressive illustrations. Using pamphlets from the museum, Charlotte taught her art history, which delighted her.

Alas, the pair couldn't stay in Zurich forever. There were whispers in the crime world that the holder of Charlotte's marker was on her trail. They had to be more discrete. When Adele was ten, they left Zurich and moved into a cabin in the wilderness of the Swiss mountains. They were, for a lack of better words, in the middle of nowhere. However, Adele was allowed to roam outside in the woods, unlike in the bustle of Zurich. The isolation didn't phase her, for it was all that she'd known. She had her mother, she had the mountains, and she had her paints. That was enough.

The direction of Charlotte's parenting shifted slightly when they moved. In addition to maintaining Adele's homeschooling and helping her to hone her art skills, Charlotte began to teach her primitive survival skills. It started out as camping trips to harsher sections of the mountains, where Adele learned how to start fires and forage for food. Then, it turned into hunting. First was archery, which Adele picked up rather quickly. After that, it was guns. Adele had a natural talent for slipping into the undergrowth, becoming one with it, and getting close enough to bring down a lynx or red deer with a precise shot from a rifle. Charlotte trained Adele like this out of love and uncertainty of the future. As much as she wanted her daughter to live a peaceful life, she knew that it wasnโ€™t likely. The skills she taught Adele were intended to make her adept at hiding in remote places and self-defense. She had no way of knowing that these skills would later be used for something else entirely.

As this training went on and Adele grew older, she asked her mother questions about the life they lived: Where was her father? Why did they have to live in the wilderness? Why did mother move from England to Switzerland while pregnant? Her mother deftly avoided these questions. Still, it wasnโ€™t long before Adele caught onto the fact that they were running from someone.

When Adele was twelve, her sleep disorder emerged. She found herself waking up in the middle of the night, certain that she could hear something trying to force open the cabin door. She had countless nightmares filled with malicious shadow people and monsters. It first happened infrequently, but as time went on the night terrors, nightmares, and sleep paralysis episodes began to plague her more and more. She was able to hide it from her mom until one incident. One snowy night, when she was fourteen, she sleep-walked out of the cabin, into the wilderness of the Swiss mountains, and eventually off of a cliff. Her waking screams cut through the thin air of the woods and woke her mother hundreds of meters away. After Charlotte found Adele, with broken bones and severe bruising, and carried her home, she remarked, "Honestly, it's a wonder you didn't die from that fall." Adele replied, "I think I did, though. I was just... allowed to come back. I wasn't done yet."

When Adele was fifteen, her mother decided that staying in Switzerland at all was too risky. They traveled to several different places around the world, staying a few months at a time and then moving to the next. Eventually, they settled in Maine in the United States. Adele had begged her mother to let them lingerโ€”the snow and mountains reminded her of home. An innocent but grave mistake. The holder of Charlotte's marker, Gregory Churchill (an English crime lord with connections to the Italian Mafia), had tracked her down at last and intended to punish her for her disobedience. When Adele was seventeen, Churchill and his men arrived in the dead of night at their cabin in the Maine mountains. They tortured and assaulted Charlotte for hours in ways that it hurts Adele to remember before ending the woman with a gunshot to the head as Adele watched. They intended to simply leave after killing Charlotte, but Adele lashed out at them, putting up a fight with whatever strength she had. They pinned her down and, with a comment that she โ€œwasn't worth the bullets,โ€ brutalized her with blades. Once confident that she was dead, they left. With its windows shattered, the cabin filled with snow that threatened to bury the corpses of the mother and daughter. However, the smaller of the two bodies stirred. Deeply wounded yet miraculously alive, Adele woke, as if from a nightmare, and limped out of the cabin into the dark, frigid nightโ€ฆ.

It is unclear to many where exactly Adele was over the three years after that fateful night. What is known, however, is that, while Gregory Churchill was relaxing in a remote residence in the English countryside, the men guarding the place began dropping like flies. Like a phantom, a twenty-year-old Adele dipped in and out of the shadows, using the wilderness surrounding the residence to her advantage. It was like hunting animals in the Swiss mountains. Eventually, she got inside and found herself standing in front of a weeping Gregory Churchill. She held a gun to his head.

"You were dead. Before I left that cabin, I watched you die," he said, still in shock. On Adele's right cheek was a deep, horizontal scar, proof of the night Gregory and his men ruthlessly slashed her and left her for dead. The flesh had healed roughly.

Adele responded coldly: "And if you had stayed a little longer, you could've watched me rise."

A bullet was in Gregory's brain a minute later. Within that minute, Adele learned the truth of her mother's past and why she ran away to Switzerland: through the marker, Charlotte had been called upon by Gregory to kill her loveโ€”Adele's father. Gregory confessed that he knew nothing of her father's whereabouts and refused to provide his name, so Adele promptly shot him. As she walked out of the front door of the Churchill countryside residence, she found herself surrounded by the men of Jade Churchill, Gregory's older sister and a higher-ranked lord in the world of crime. Adele prepared for the end. She hadn't expected to go on living after exacting her revenge.

However, before her men could shoot Adele down, Jade made her an offer. She cared little that her brother had been murdered ("Asshole deserved it, really," Adele remembers her saying). In fact, she was more impressed with Adele than anything. The offer: if Adele agreed to complete a list of contracts for her, Jade would train her in the art of being an assassin, educate her about the crime world, and allow her to have access to the Churchill family resources. Jade explained: "If my brother's going to die due to a job he left unfinished, I may as well get an asset out of it. And you, little Lazarus, get to go on living. It's a win-win." Adele agreed with the conditions that she was allowed to search for her father in the meantime and that she would be provided art supplies and time to create pieces between contracts. Thus, the Churchills, the very family that had taken everything from her, took her in.

Jade Churchill's contracts were suited for someone of Adele's talents. The targets knew they were being hunted and hid away in deserts, mountains, and other remote, wild areas for safety. Many hitmen didn't have the survival skills or endurance to reach and neutralize these targetsโ€”Adele did. She completed Ms. Churchill's contracts within two years and was rewarded handsomely with a place to live in the town she loved and the connections to land her a day job as a freelance artist. Adele has been searching for her father ever since and has made little progress, but even that small progress is worth something to her. Between her art and her search for her father, she executes contracts (declining or ignoring those that involve innocents or children) for the money, but maybe also for that feeling of being an avenger. Perhaps her mind paints a portrait of Gregory Churchill on her targets' faces before she kills them.

PSYCHE: Ilyas puts the phrase โ€œspoiled rottenโ€ to shame. Jaded, flamboyant, and disgustingly wealthy, she is hell on heels. Her wit is as sharp as the wings of her eyeliner and she has a nasty proclivity for lying that can make Ilyas particularly untrustworthy. Despite this, she can very charming, enchanting even. Sheโ€™s seductive with intent and knows that sex doesnโ€™t just sell, it gets results. A known flirt, ilyas uses sex โ€” or the potential for sex โ€” to get close to her target. She prefers seduction for its simplicity and has found that people tend to think less critically and let their guard down when they are hoping to get in your pants. Having been sidelined from birth and forced to stand in not just the shadow of her father, but now her younger brother as well, Ilyas began to internalize the feelings of worthlessness and inadequacy she had grown up feeling. She was older, she came first, why wouldnโ€™t couldnโ€™t he choose her? For years she searched for the answer, but when she finally found one, it only broke her more. After confronting him about everything, Miquel told her that in fatherโ€™s mind, Ilyas was merely a girl and despite being his own flesh and blood, would never be worthy enough. No matter what she did she would never measure up to the โ€œmanโ€ her brother was. Ilyas spiraled. After reaching rock bottom, she realized that she would simply have to take whatever she wanted and that there was only one way to do that; claw her way to the top. Her newly competitive nature and the drive that accompanies it are now what make up the foundation of her personhood and has, over time, molded her into an apex predator.

Ilyas is a very creative and resourceful hunter. She is surprisingly resilient and her quick-thinking and ability to work well under pressure saved her ass many a time. She has no qualms about working with others but is far from a team player. Trust is a luxury to her; one of the few she has all but forsaken. She knows better than to put stock in the words of others but a good sense of humor tends to soften her up. Ilyas believes most of her colleagues to be quite tiring; bored by the dry tone of voice and serious expressions they choose to wear, anyone who can at least crack a joke is a more than welcomed sight. She enjoys the company of others who possess a certain light-heartedness about themselves, a quality she finds complimentary to her own seemingly flippant attitude โ€” and one that she claims to be far too rare in this line of work.

In all honesty, Ilyas considers contract killing to be much more of a hobby rather than labor. Her favorite part, is the rush of adrenaline she gets right before the kill, a sensation she can only describe as addictive. She loves to toy with her targets, ensuring she drains every ounce of fear from her victims. Only then, will the high be worth it. This has started to become problematic for Ilyas though, as โ€” just like any other drug โ€” she is starting to build up a tolerance to the thrill of her her usual contracts. Now, she wonders what, if anything, could satiate her and just how far is she willing to go.

Deception | A skilled liar, Ilyas excels at deception. Her silver tongue allows her to deceive most others and can grant her access and information that would be otherwise unavailable.
Knife Combat | During her limited training, Ilyas discovered that she had a knack for blade combat and spent a large portion of her time honing on in that skill. She focused mainly on knives and daggers but, is still a skilled swordsman in her on right โ€” able to wield longer blades such as machetes and short swords with nearly as much finesse.

BODY MODIFICATIONS: The tattoo of a prowling tiger surrounded by different poisonous flowers and plants takes up his whole back. A sleeve on his left arm of more poisonous flowers and plants continues from that. He has a large thigh tattoo of a coiling King Cobra on his right thigh.

PERSONA: Sun-Min wants you to like him. And maybe because of some deep seated desire to be loved and adored the way he never truly is, but mostly because the more you like him the more you'll give him. The more he can wiggle his way into your life and take what he wants without anyone the wiser. The more you like him the easier it is for him to let you down easy and abscond with his winnings. That's all his life really is, absconding with stolen things after convincing you it's his or taking it from under your nose.

So he's what one would call, a social chameleon. And not for the good intentions of creating lifelong bonds. He wants to please you and wrap you around his dainty fingers until all you know is pleasing him. And there's nothing he won't do to get what he wants.

In all reality though, Sun-Min is generally abrasive and apathetic once he knows you. Long term relationships are uncommon for him and once someone sees through to the real him, he becomes uncomfortable. It causes him to try and push you away by becoming cold and mean. In all honesty, Sun-Min wears so many masks and facades that he's not really sure which one is actually him.

Grifting: Sun-Min might just be the best of the best. Able to get by even some of the most perceptive and paranoid marks by changing his skin to suit his needs.
Acrobatics: Skilled in trapeze and other forms of gymnastics and acrobatics, Sun-Min is able to bend and twist and parkour with the best if them. If grifting doesn't work, breaking and entering through the vents always does.

Medicine: Sun-Min is suitably knowledgeable on forms of first aid and medicine. Which means he's also intimate with the inner workings of poison and their effects on the human body.
Sleight of Hand
: Sun-Min has the most delicate hands around and lifting is no tricky feat for him, able to finesse your watch from your wrist or wallet from your pocket with ease.
DEFICIENCIES:
Weapons: Sun-Min is absolutely horrendous with any given weapon and only uses them in times of absolutely fire need.
Interpersonal Relationships:
He's just mean and can't make friends.
Picky:
He's picky about the jobs he'll take, trying to keep his nerves and panic at bay by only taking jobs that won't make him try and stab a mark with a fork instead of poisoning them the way he always plans.

BIO: All anybody ever knows about him is that he grew up in the circus as an acrobat. Usually he only tells this to children.
