Who is your favorite artist/what artist influences you?

The madness creeps in
<p>

As an artist, I find myself mesmerized by other people's work. "How can I ever be that good?" Is a thought that often comes to mind. I love the classical artists to the most contemporary. It's hard for me not to respect another artist because every era had artists (even ones which are now famous) who struggled to sell their paintings. Over the years, I've become increasing obsessed with the artist Shawn Coss. His work has always given me the inspiration to push myself to be better. He still does. This is some of his work, which I happily own the originals of. <img src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=http://img09.deviantart.net/9356/i/2013/181/b/3/the_black_priest_by_shawncoss-d6behvq.jpg&key=af77b3c4adffaa09a5b695257cd1d83d259865beb63312dfed1a5bc72865f30d" class="ipsImage" alt="the_black_priest_by_shawncoss-d6behvq.jp" /> "The Black Priest" Shawn Coss <img src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=https://scontent-sjc2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/1920603_740492702635477_1277345154_n.jpg?oh=002e900f7229d00c8d2db913f7618b42&oe=57AAA42F&key=8a9ea7c780ae3dc00aa1cfdf6c784997054caeb26b85985c6f2bc5c082ec4bdd" class="ipsImage" alt="1920603_740492702635477_1277345154_n.jpg" /> "Heart Skull" Shawn Coss <img src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=https://scontent-sjc2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/l/t1.0-9/970051_754499204568160_767403283_n.jpg?oh=ca8fbe07c1bbc9e66b3a1d812c8f53ec&oe=5799D3AB&key=1ea02133975dc78848a1cf57c10e78a279518af94ede35c09e469aef36abf0d5" class="ipsImage" alt="970051_754499204568160_767403283_n.jpg?o" /> "Organ Grinder" Shawn Coss Who is your favorite artist and who influences you?

The color balance in those is really nice *v*

personally, my favorite artist has to be Joshua Moonshine. I don't know if he still does, but he used to go to the boardwalk with a bunch of empty canvases and spray paint cans and some matches, and he would speed paint these really neat science fiction worlds (among other things!) to the sound of music. I own two of his pieces, and have a sweatshirt he signed in spray paint!

Always: Osamu Tezuka, but more recently I've found some inspiration through Mark Crilley.
I just checked out Mark Crilley's illustration page. He has some fun work.

Spray paint artists are really cool and speed painting has always fascinated me. I used to watch artists in parks when I lived in an area I could find them. It's always so cool talking with people about their work.

I work out of an arts collective, so I'm extremely privileged to have met inspirational artists in the flesh. Lorraine McDonnell is a fantastic painter, and tomorrow imma kick her ass for not updating her wordpress more often. Serge Vanden Berghe is another; his sacred geometry really speaks to me.

Aubrey Beardsley is one of my favourite illustrators, but I also quite enjoy Carne Griffiths and Yuri Shimojo. You can probably guess I'm really into clean, expressive lines and the occasional explosion of colour and texture.

I also have a slew of surrealists, cubists, and a few Russian Suprematists and Constructivism (I still love me some Rodchenko), on my list of admired artists, but I prefer to share the lesser known, preferably still living ones ~
