Rage points are spent at the beginning of a turn, in the declaration stage. You can spend Rage only in times of stress. A Garou can use Rage in the following ways:
• Frenzy: Frenzy is the violent outburst, the untamed savagery, the animal instinct for blood and brutality that lurks in the heart of every werewolf. Whenever a player gets four or more successes on a Rage roll, the character enters a frenzy. See Frenzy on p. 261 for more information on the causes and resolutions of frenzies.
• Extra Actions: A player can spend Rage to give her character extra actions in a single turn. However, a Garou cannot spend more Rage points for actions in a turn than half of her permanent Rage rating. See p. 266.
• Changing Forms: A Player may spend a Rage point for his character to change instantly to any form he desires, without having to roll Stamina + Primal-Urge. See p. 285.
• Recovering from Stun: If a character loses more health levels in one turn than his Stamina rating, he is stunned and unable to act in the next turn. By spending a Rage point, the werewolf can ignore the effect and function normally.

The Rage pool fluctuates from session to session and from turn to turn. Rage replenishes itself in several ways.
• The Moon: The first time a werewolf sees the moon at night, the Beast inside stirs, and Rage floods back into her. Under a new moon, the character gets one point; under a waning moon, two points; under a half or waxing moon, three points; and under a full moon, four points. If the moon phase corresponds with the character’s auspice, she regains all of her Rage. This phenomenon only occurs when the character first sees the moon each night.
• Botch: If the Storyteller approves, a werewolf might receive a Rage point after a botched a roll. Rage comes from stressful situations, and seeing the action you were attempting blow up in your face, sometimes literally, can be a very stressful situation.
• Humiliation: Rage will also come rushing back if anything a Garou does proves particularly humiliating. The Storyteller decides whether a situation is embarrassing enough to warrant a Rage point. Garou tend to be very proud, and they don’t take being laughed at well.
• Confrontation: Again at the Storyteller’s approval, a character could receive a Rage point at the beginning of a tense situation, in the moments right before combat starts. This gain accounts for the anticipation and hackle-raising that happens just as tempers start to flare.
• New Stories: When a new story begins, each player should roll a die to determine how many Rage points he possesses currently. (They might even exceed their permanent Rage ratings, at the Storyteller’s discretion.) Yes, characters might end up with less Rage than they had at the end of the last story. Such is the way of Rage. It is always moving and never predictable.
The player is encouraged to explain this increase or decrease in Rage by describing what happened between sessions. If they come up with some creative tales, Storytellers can be a little more giving with the Rage as the new story progresses.

Willpower: 6

Of all the Traits werewolves possess, Willpower is one of the most frequently rolled and spent because of the many ways it can be utilized.
• Automatic Successes: Spending a Willpower point on an action gives the player one extra success on any roll. Only one point can be spent this way each turn, but the success is guaranteed. Spending Willpower in this way completely negates the effects of a botch. Some do not allow a character to spend Willpower, including damage rolls or any roll to activate Gifts.
• Uncontrollable Urges: Garou are instinctual creatures, and can find the Beast within reacting to stimuli without conscious thought. The Storyteller may inform you that your character has done something from a primal urge, like getting away from fire or attacking a creature of the Wyrm. A Willpower point can be spent to negate this gut reaction and keep the Garou right where he is. On rare occasions, the player must keep spending Willpower points until the character removes himself from the situation or runs out of Willpower.
• Halting Frenzies: As mentioned previously, a character flies into a frenzy whenever her player rolls more than four successes on a Rage roll. This situation can be averted if the player spends a Willpower point to remain in control. More information on frenzies can be found on p. 261.
• Fighting On: When a werewolf is injured, her wounds can make it hard for her to concentrate, represented by wound penalties to her actions. By spending a point of Willpower, she can ignore the wound penalties on a single roll.

Merits
Metamorph - 7 - Shapechanging for you is as easy as breathing. You do not need to roll to change forms, nor is it necessary to spend a Rage point for an instantaneous shift. You make your changes as if you scored five successes on your roll to shift forms. If you lose consciousness from wounds or for some other reason, you may roll Wits + Primal Urge (difficulty 8) to choose which form you assume rather than reverting to breed form.

Flaws
Foe From the Past: +1 - You have inherited an enemy, not because of anything you’ve done, but because one of your ancestors incurred his wrath. The strength of the enemy determines the point value of the Flaw.
• (1 point) A werewolf hunter whose parents were killed by your forebear.

Nightmares: +1 - You experience horrendous nightmares every time you sleep, and memories of them haunt you during your waking hours. Upon awakening, you must succeed on a Willpower roll (difficulty 7) or lose a die on all actions for that day.

Phobia - Snakes: +2 - You have an overwhelming fear of something. Spiders, snakes, crowds, and heights are examples of common phobias. If you have a mild phobia (2 points), you must make a Willpower roll every time you encounter the object of your fear. The difficulty of the roll is determined by the Storyteller and based on the circumstances of the encounter. You must make at last three successes in order to approach the object of your fear or deal with the fearful situation. If you fail the roll, you must run away. The three-point version of this Flaw requires that you make a frenzy check to resist fox frenzy when you are faced with what you fear. Your Storyteller must approve your choice of phobia.

Ward: +3 - You are devoted to protecting someone, perhaps a close friend or relative from the days before your First Change. This may be a child (or wolf cub) that relies upon you for care as well as protection. Or it can be an adult who, because of their connection to you, finds themselves exposed to dangers beyond what they can handle themselves. It could even represent a small pack of wolves who rely on you to protect them from human and supernatural predation. Regardless, your Ward’s path is firmly tied to yours in some way, and they have a knack for finding themselves in the middle of trouble, looking to you to save the day.
• City Running (Level One) — Humans are creatures of the city, raising their steel and glass nests high into the sky. This Gift allows a homid to easily scale the concrete canyons and navigate the tangled back alleys and rooftops of the urban landscape. Some lupus derisively refer to this Gift as “Climb Like an Ape.” It is taught by an ancestor-spirit or an urban city-spirit.
System: The player spends a point of Rage. For the rest of the scene, the character may climb urban features at her full movement speed, and the difficulty of all Athletics rolls to navigate through cities (running down cluttered alleys, climbing the side of buildings, leaping from rooftop to rooftop) is reduced by two.

• Mindspeak (Level One) — Invoking the power of a waking dream, the Garou can place any chosen characters into silent communication. A Chimerling teaches this Gift.
System: The player spends one Willpower point per chosen sentient being and makes a Manipulation + Expression roll (difficulty of the victim’s Willpower) if any participants are unwilling. All those included in the waking dream may interact normally through the Mindspeak, although they can inflict no damage through it. Their real bodies can still act, although all dice pools decrease by two. The Mindspeak ends when all the participants want it to, or on the turn the Galliard fails the roll against an unwilling member. All beings affected must be within line of sight. The Garou may include her entire pack in the waking dream for only one Willpower point, if she desires.

• Perfect Recall (Level One) — The werewolf is able to remember and relive any memory with perfect clarity. An elephant-spirit teaches this Gift.
System: The player may spend one Gnosis point to perfectly remember any one detail, no matter how small, from any point in her character’s entire life.

• Plug and Play (Level One) — All of the Weaver’s works are connected through the same web, the same song. The Glass Walkers exploit this truth to draw more power from the modern profusion of technology, making their devices compatible with almost everything. A Net Spider teaches this Gift.
System: The player spends one Willpower point. For the next day, any computer the Glass Walker uses — no matter how simple — becomes fully compatible with any other digital device, regardless of obstacles such as different operating systems, lack of physically compatible access ports, or even the complete absence of any means of receiving or interpreting a wireless signal. Generally, Glass Walkers use this Gift to turn their smart phones into omni-compatible access keys to computer networks, security feeds, and even car GPS systems.
Tara was in her early twenties when her mother gave birth to her little sister, Rachel. It was a bit of a surprise to have a newborn suddenly show up in her life, but Tara was busy with college, and was away from home much of the time. But there were happy times where she would take her sister and babysit for her parents, letting them get some alone time from the stress of having the baby.

It was at this time that Tara discovered that she was a werewolf, along with her parents. Talk about the shock of a lifetime. Over the next few years, Tara now added into her busy schedule learning the lore of being one of the Glasswalker tribe and being a protector of Gaia from the predators of the Wyrm. It was both an exciting and scary time for her, learning what it means to be a werewolf in this world.

Then there was the fire.

It was one night that Tara was out with Rachel, trying to get some sister bonding time when she got the call that her parents' house was burning. Racing to the scene, she was horrified to see that the building was completely engulfed, and her mom and dad were both missing. All she could do was sit there and hold Rachel and cry, hoping beyond all hope that their parents were not in there.

But they were, and it was clear that this was no accident. Both of her parents were dead before the fire started, shot multiple times before the house was set on fire. Somehow, Tara knew it was the work of a Hunter, and it was only luck that both of the girls were out of the house when this happened, or else they would be dead, too.

With the death of her parents, Tara took custody of Rachel, raising her in her parents' stead.

Turning her skills with the computer to try and stop others from committing crimes, she went to work for the police in their computer crimes department.

Merits

Flaws
Joanna’s first memory was of listening to her father read the Odyssey to her while she sat in her hi-chair, teething. Her parents were highly-placed and high-achieving government employees, and they were determined to make sure their daughter excelled. By the time she was five, she had learned German, Spanish and how to play the piano -- though not as well as they would have liked.

Not long after she started kindergarten (at a very competitive school that promised to produce eventual Ivy Leaguers) the troubles began. Joanna, who had always been a cheerful child, began to throw violent temper tantrums that frightened and disgusted the staff and the other students. At first, it was assumed her parents had spoiled her. Her parents themselves believed that, and they instituted strict discipline at home. This didn’t improve Joanna’s behavior -- rather, it made her worse. Her scholastic performance didn’t live up to her “gifted” classification, either: though able to read adult novels and to perfectly remember all she had read, she obstinately refused to display these talents in a productive form. She avoided the other children, preferring to play with invisible friends drawn from books and her own fertile imagination.

Then the whispers began that something was ‘wrong’ with her. Surely a child of eight was too old to still be talking with people who weren’t there? The Firbys dragged her to every child psychologist they could find. No two shrinks offered the same diagnosis. Finally, one claimed he had the answer: Joanna’s behavioral issues were due to her lack of a stable home environment and a stay-at-home mother. Katherine Firby should quit work at once, the psychologist said, and become a housewife.

After the resultant row died down, it was decide that Jonathan Firby would quit his job instead, and stay home to take care of Joanna and her bright-eyed baby sister Karen. Joanna was pulled out of her expensive school for the gifted and placed in a regular elementary school closer to her home, where she was bored, miserable and hated. She took most of her frustrations out on Karen, who was fitting in well and proving in all ways to be a normal child, but she also continued to explode in terrifying rages, during which she showed more physical strength than would normally be expected of a nine-year-old, at one point kicking a hole through a heavy wooden door.

The strain proved too much for Jonathan and Katherine’s marriage, and they divorced when Joanna was twelve. Among the many disputes their lawyers had to settle was who would be caretaker for Joanna if, as seemed likely, she was too mentally disturbed to become a function adult. Neither parent was eager to assume that responsibility, especially not Katherine, who had always been fonder of her younger daughter, Karen. Sweet Karen, meanwhile, did her best to demonstrate why she was the “good,” “normal,” daughter, getting good grades, making friends, volunteering, and comforting her parents every time Joanna was suspended, reminding them that she, at least, would never do such things as that bad Joanna.

Jonathan received custody of the two girls at first, a heavy burden for the former civil servant, even with his parents’ help. He was taking night classes at a law school, and had little time any more to deal with Joanna’s continuing bad behavior. She had always been his favorite, as Karen had been Katherine’s -- even the naming pattern they had chosen seemed to mark which child “belonged” to which parent -- but as she turned from a child to a teenager his own anger began to take over, as if her rage sparked something hidden within him. Their altercations turned physical on several occasions -- altercations Joanna always lost, not having her father’s inches and pounds. On one occasion, she growled at him, showing teeth, and in a sudden panic he struck her across the face with a rolled-up newspaper, breaking her glasses. It took every bit of legal acumen he possessed to convince CPS afterwards that Joanna was lying.

Joanna’s relationship with her sister continued to worsen, as Karen was forever at her elbow, quick to tattle, quick to contrast Joanna’s terrible behavior with her own, quick to taunt her sweetly and then step back and watch while Joanna was punished for losing her temper -- for Jonathan always punished Joanna even when it was obvious that Karen had started it, often scolding her for falling so easily for her sister’s manipulations and forcing him to discipline her. “How can someone so smart be so stupid?” he complained.

When not quarreling with her father and sister, Joanna withdrew further and further into a world of dreams, based heavily on the heroic epics and modern fantasy novels she had become addicted to. In her dreams she was a fearless warrior like Roland or Beowulf, or a mighty wizard like Merlin or Ged, or a bard who knew magic songs like Väinämöinen, and rather than being trapped and humiliated she roamed freely across a dark yet beautiful landscape, haunted by evil spirits and blessed by gods.

Sometimes the physical world she inhabited seemed to fade and grow dim, and she could almost see the snarling demons that floated around her, or the sad, wise faces of dryads in the trees near her home. When she was small, those faces had brought her comfort, and she spent as much time out of the house as possible, roaming the quiet woods, but as the land around her house began to be more and more heavily developed, she could hardly stand to go outside. When the pine grove nearby was felled to put in a mansion, she hid under the covers, trying not to hear the sounds the falling trees made, knowing that to tell her parents would lead to another round of visits to psychologists. Is it any wonder that the world of her imagination became her refuge?

Joanna tried to run away from home twice. Both times she was caught by her father before she got out of the house. The second time he threatened her with having the police arrest her and take her to juvie hall.

She was desperately unhappy and feeling trapped. The only time she was really happy was when she was reading, immersed in a world far, far away from her dysfunctional home and clear-cut neighborhood. She dreamed the dream of every kid who reads fantasy novels, the secret wish of even the most well-adjusted child: to find a door or portal or passage into another realm where heroes existed and magic worked and her…unique character would be an asset and not a disability, where she had a chance to be brave and strong and respected and loved.

(Of course that portal exists, it’s called adulthood. And on the other side, it really does get better. The people who thought you were a freak when you were fifteen will think you’re cool when you’re twenty-five. And you find your will can change the world. But from the perspective of fifteen, that’s too far away to matter.)

And then, one day, Jonathan went too far. Maybe Joanna called him a bastard one too many times (a word he was sensitive about, being adopted). Maybe she punched or kicked him somewhere especially painful as he was trying to drag her to the chair in the corner. He’d given up trying to ground her, since she had no social life, or send her to her room, since she was actually pretty content there as long as she could read.

Instead, when he wanted to punish her for not doing her homework or cutting class to read in the library or losing her temper and cursing at a teacher, he would drag her to the corner and make her sit in a chair. Even when she reached adolescence, he couldn’t think of any better way to deal with her than the chair in the corner. And since she wasn’t going to sit meekly there of her own volition, he would tie her there with a rope.

This time, though, something went wrong. Jonathan was yelling in anger and pain and Joanna was struggling against the ropes and lashing out at him with her feet and snapping at him with her teeth. Unlike most girls her age, she’d never had them straightened, being unwilling to wear braces. They were crooked, with a pronounced overbite, and suddenly there seemed too many of them for her small head as she caught his hand between her jaws and bit hard. He yelled again, and in a panic, struck her hard across the face with his free hand, the heavy silver ring on his knuckle drawing blood.

Snap! The ropes broke. That was the last sound Jonathan Firby ever heard.

System: The player spends a point of Rage. For the rest of the scene, the character may climb urban features at her full movement speed, and the difficulty of all Athletics rolls to navigate through cities (running down cluttered alleys, climbing the side of buildings, leaping from rooftop to rooftop) is reduced by two.
• Persuasion (Level One) — This Gift imbues a homid’s words with intrinsic credibility and conviction, causing them to ring true to the ear and lay heavy on the heart. An ancestor-spirit teaches this Gift.
System: The player rolls Charisma + Subterfuge (difficulty 7). Success lowers the difficulty of all social rolls by one for the rest of the scene, and allows successful rolls to have uncommonly strong impact (such as changing long-held political views, or causing an addict to seriously reconsider the course of his life).
• Liar’s Face (Level One) — The Ragabash wraps herself in such a deceitful attitude that nothing she says can be trusted — not even the clear and unvarnished truth. The werewolf may make a single truthful statement, and no human who hears it will believe her. A platypus-spirit teaches this Gift.
System: After the character makes a truthful statement, the player spends one Willpower point and rolls Charisma + Subterfuge (difficulty 7). This Gift is automatically effective on humans, causing them to believe the Ragabash is lying. Supernatural listeners whose Willpower rating is lower than the Ragabash’s successes also refuse to believe the Ragabash’s words.
Sid Walker was never a fan of werewolves. Never a fan if horror in general. Of course it never helped that he came from a lineage one might find in such a genre. When he was very young, he had thought they were just a cult, The Black Spiral Dancers, and his family a part of it.

His mother was taken by one of their members, and forced to concieve a child, one Sid Walker. Though they weren't allowed to go far, lest they be tracked down, his mother did try the best she could. His father was a violent man, and thankfully showed little interest save for a few visits that never ended well. And barely even noticed he had a son until the late teens of Sid's life when strange symptoms began to surface.

For Sid, things began to get sour after that. As his father began to slowly introduce Sid to the ways of the cult. And putting him into more and more dangerous situations as if expecting something to happen.

Well, Sid was a wiley fellow, be it through luck or wit, he always found a way out. Of course, this only seemed to anger his father. It wasn't until much later that Sid learned that his father was trying to provoke a transformation.. This all came to a head when his father ran out of patience, and after an explosive confrontation with his mother, murdered her there in front of him. This got only half the desired results, for while the rage exploded within Sid, and the beast was released, his father was not prepared to deal with the spirit of his son. For there was a night of chase, and fighting, and confinement. All of which Sid couldn't remember well. But what he did remember was numerous werewolves, that he somehow recognized as his fathers friends. Monsters that tried to catch and bind him. Tried and failed. For when Sid awoke, he had no idea how long or how he managed, but he awoke in the middle of the Appalachian Trail.

And from there, he ran. From North Carolina, he made his way to Tennessee. Wandering aimlessly and barely getting by. It wasn't until he reached Kmoxville that he dared to try and make a new life for himself. Though this came about by making an unlikely friend. A vampire, of all things, by the name of Tori Rosedale. A friendship sparked by the common bond of being on the run from their own kind. They became roommates and helped each other through the years. They helped each other avoid other vampires and werewolves. And they helped each other get a leg up on life(or unlife in Tori's case). Eventually Tori found herself in the employ of a major corporation, and once she rose the ranks of the corporate ladder, she hired on Sid as an executive assistant.

As years passed, the two learned the corporation wasnt as innocent as they first believed. But they weren't about to let go of their new life here so easily. Even as they slowly began to get pulled into the darker secret a of the company, the two simply used it to their own advantage.

One day Sid came across a half disposed memo of a company CEO. Figuring it might be some useful dirt for Tori to exploit, he fixed it up and was shocked by the contents. It was was from the Nashville office. Talking about smoking the dogs out and to get rid of them. Underhanded violence in the corporate world, he was familiar with... but the names shocked him. Grindsley. He knew them. He knew the names. They were family. He remembered them having visited his mother a few times before, they were cousins.

He brought it up with Tori, and she agreed. She would see them both transfered to Nashville, but Sid couldn't wait. He needed to get their to warn them, and she would catch up with him soon.

Sid drove all night to get to Nashville. But by the time he got there... and the time he found Mrs Grindsley's home... it was already a heap of cinder and ash. He was too late... but by what information he could gather, only one body had been pulled from the house. Mrs. Grindsley.

Confident that her children were still alive, Sid set out to find them. After all, they were family. And probably the only ones of his blood he dared to call such. So he stuck around. Starting yet a new life here, still working at the office, but this time using his position to do more good. Being both a mole and informant. And hoping to help find out about the Grindsley fire.
