Fandom Weight of th[E] World ~ a NieR: Automata RP

WonderWarrior

Do you think roleplays are silly little things?
The year is 11945. The 14th Machine War has finally been declared to be over, and project YorHa is no more. Yet pieces of the long-gone organization lay scattered about the land, and none of them know where to turn. With no way to back up their data, 2B and 9S are left to face the uncertainty of this new life. Having gained consciousness, tactical support units Pod 042 and Pod 153 are to navigate this unfamiliar situation and support their fellow YorHa units with a sense of urgency they never could have imagined. A2, having lived, vows to find meaning in this new life. Though most machine lifeforms wander peacefully, hostiles still remain, among other dangers those of YorHa have yet to encounter.

They only know one thing: they have no definite future, so they must take it for themselves.

2B had just finally awoken from a slumber that seemed to last forever, she had laid at the bottom of the ravine for a few moments after A2 took her life before she had finally died. Her data had not been backed up to the bunker thankfully so she could rest easy. Until Project Yorha finally ended and their Pods gained consciousness. 2B slowly opened her eyes, they were met with 9S laying beside her, the sun beaming straight down on them. She didn't understand what was going on but at least she was alive right ? She hesitantly extended her arm out and touched the male's face with a caring gaze before pulling herself up to a sitting position, what happened ? Was it all finally over ?

9S remained still for what seemed like an eternity. The pain was gone; project YorHa was gone; everything felt at peace, as if everything had kindly fallen into place for once. However, his eyes slowly opened, and while the serenity still lasted a moment, the illusion quickly faded from that moment on, as all illusions do at one point or another. It soon dawned on him that he had been dead; that he should still be dead. What changed?
The first thing he realized was that his left arm was gone, having been obliterated when . . . when? He could almost remember, but it was a hazy kind of memory that he soon discovered was best left repressed. The second thing he realized was that he was no longer alone, for another android rested beside him. Instead of relief, however, what washed over him was a tense, red hot feeling that he couldn't quite describe as he instinctively reached for his sword. Two quiet, choked syllables escaped his mouth before he even registered what was in front of him. "A2 . . ."
"Negative!" A feminine, robotic voice cut in, making 9S tense in surprise. Pod 153, he thought, placing the voice as it continued: "This unit is YorHa designation 2B."
"2B. . .?" 9S breathed, hardly able to comprehend it. "It can't be . . . really? 2B?!" His words came out hoarse and airy as he forced himself into a sitting position, looking her in the face as memories flooded back to him, good and bad alike. "2B? Is is true? Or. . . " His tone and expression darkened as he stared at her. Once again he reached for his sword, his face contorting into a snarl. "Or is it just another fake? A cruel illusion?"

2B did not see 9S as a threat so her hand did not go to her blade, she had managed to get up to her feet though she nearly fell. Thankfully she had caught herself, the andriod glanced around the city ruins trying to piece everything together. A hoarse voice broke her train of thought though, 9S ? She glanced back at him a small smile came to her before it dropped at the sight of the blade being aimed at her. "Cruel illusion ?"she mumble to herself before shaking her head. "No 9S, it's me" 2B responded slowly walking towards him. What was - ... did he find out ? Her face paled slightly at the thought of 9S knowing the truth but it seemed that's what had happened.

9S eyed her cautiously, catching the smile the had escaped her lips His blade shook as he heard her voice, and slowly, he lowered his sword, though he refused to drop it completely. Though YorHa was gone, and though the doubt that she was the real 2B was dissipating with each step she took towards him, he could not help the sneaking suspicion that this situation was somehow going to turn on him. Finally, he struggled to his feet, re-sheathing his sword. "Pod," he quietly commanded. "Scan unit 2B for Logic Virus and verify her identification code and memory data."
"Scan complete," 153 replied. "No Logic Virus detected; suspicion of hostile intent quite unnecessary."
"So you're really alive . . ." 9S uttered, his voice threatening to break as he gazed at the other android. "How?"

2B returned the hard gaze to 9S as she watched the blade slowly lower before it was finally sheathed, she understood his suspicions. Everyone in the bunker, not to mention eventually she had fallen as well, had been taken by the virus so it would only be natural to be suspicious. Though something felt off. She couldn't quiet describe the feeling. 2B watched 9S's Pod scan over her and she was relieved to hear there was no trace of the logic virus left in her. "I'm not sure"she responded not really knowing herself. Every thing went black after she succumbed so none of this was really making any sense. Shaking her slightly 2B glanced towards the bridge where she fell at before turning to face 9S. "What happened ?"she asked.

9S followed her gaze for only a moment before wincing, quickly glancing away and looking back at 2B. "I'm not really sure . . . after . . . you know," he gestured with his hand toward the bridge, shrugging, "I don't remember much." That was a lie; he remembered all of it, right up until his final moments before losing consciousness for who knew how long. However, he did not wish to recount any of this, not now, not ever. Things can be okay now, he thought, attempting to convince himself. None of that matters.
Pod 153 was not having it. "Negative," she countered. "Unit 9S's memory data was fully restored upon repair, along with Unit 2B and Unit A2."
9S cast a stiff glare at the pod. "Well you sure did a bang-up job of that," he remarked, attempting to play off the reply nonetheless.

"You don't remember much ?"she repeatedly in a almosy sarcastic tone, she honestly didn't really believe 9S. What was he doing this whole time then ? 2B was going to call him out before his own Pod did it, she folded her arms over her chest as she gave him another hard stare, why would he lie to her ? Her curiosity as to what happened after she "died" really only strengthed. Something big must've happened if 9S refused to tell her, did something happen to A2 ? Her mind began to think of different things before a sigh escaped her lip, "You should just tell me"2B spoke her face turning to her normal cold expression.

"You know it's been months, right?" 9S replied defensively, surprised at how his coldness matched hers at this point. He sighed, glaring at the ground, searching for a way out of this conversation. He then gazed off into the distance, and spotted the small stream the ran down from the resistance camp's location. Are they okay? No reason not to check. Perfect. . . "A lot happened, and I can tell you later. Shouldn't we see if the resistance camp survived?" He asked, genuine concern in his voice despite his slight ulterior motives.
"Proposal: Unit 9S should explain-"
"Later!" he snapped. "Jeez . . ." He rolled his eyes, as if there was any hope as to passing the discussion off as a minor annoyance at that point."The resistance members will wanna know too, so might as well wait. "

Wait. Months ? His response honestly stunned 2B, had she really been gone for months ? Maybe he wasn't lying and really didn't remember anything. She was going to say something before 9S reminded her of the resistance camp, maybe they should just pick this conversation up some other time. 2B nodded moving her eyes to meet 9S's, "Fine, let's check the resistance camp for any survivors and we can pick this up some other time"she said agreeing looking for survivors was more important that remembering things right now. They could get all of that sorted out later but right now they needed to see if anyone else survived.

9S nodded, making his way down the building. As he hit the ground running, he watched the familiar foliage with a sort of wonder. With 2B beside him, nothing but the usual machine lifeforms roaming the grassy city ruins, and the occasional moose or boar running by, it all gave an eerie sense of normalcy. It was a normalcy that 9S had longed for, and now he vowed to keep it, no matter what. His sword at the ready, he kept a wary and watchful eye on 2B, looking for any signs of danger.
Pod 153 followed along beside him, silently attempting to decipher 9S's reasons behind not disclosing the past few month's events. A question to pose to 042, perhaps.
