Fandom Waves of Dementia, A Marker's Calling... (Dead Space)

JD was nearly frozen, his target reticle honed in on the figure's head as he watched it slowly turn and move equally as slow down another hall. He had to agree with Lance and nodded.
"Comms first then mess hall. Then we go left, quietly scavenge what we can and then bounce. We've gotta reestablish communication with the squad and the rest of the galaxy so we can bring in the cavalry," he said in a hushed tone, sights still down the front hall for a moment before his next command.
"Form up and move out... now," he whispered with authority in case the... thing... was listening for what they were saying and turned to the right side hall with comms and the dining hall.

Lance checked his rifle before following JD, the gore at their feet had become paint in Lea's mind, desensitized to the sight of organs and limbs. He followed his brother's command, sticking to one side with his weapon posed. The hall forward had several of the more common slashers on the ground, a few were already blasted to pieces, guranteed to be down and out. But two or three of them were intact as they laid on the ground stiffly. Lance pointed to the two closest, gesturing for Jeff to take one and the other. Comms was just past these few and hopefully so were those survivors.

Lance took aim at the legs of his target and on a silent count to three he blasted one leg off and then the other. The thing twitched to life and quickly rolled over but Lea gave it no time to adcance before shooting its pincers off. The third one hopped up and began to run at the pair but both of them were quicker than before and easily shot it down. All seemed well until loud banging come past Comms, a brute charging at the soldiers, its skin and bones charred and riddled from a previous fight. Lea used stasis to slow the thing, their modules far better than civilian models, so they had a few seconds to move out of the way.

JD saw the three common slasher enemies that they had faced thus far and took aim with his underbarrel shotgun. He followed the silent countdown and blasted along with Lea, the buckshot easily shredding the limbs of the creature. Their numbers went from three to none in the blink of an eye as they were tactically efficient and dispatched the threat post haste. The real fright came when the massive beast at the end of the hall reared its ugly head and charged.
Jeff dodged the stasis slowed beast along with Lance, the corridor a bit cramped for this fight but they would have to make it work. He was only just able to make out the charred evidence of a prior fight on the creature and it sent a shiver down his spine. All he could think about was Sarge and the squad. But then the dead one from the armory flashed to the front of his mind.
Armored plates protecting the weak spots on the back...
"Remember, this one's weak on it's six," JD shouted and opened fire on the beast as it was still slowed down and charging in the direction of the junction of hallways. That armored plating was a bitch but he managed to tag the glowing yellow weakpoints a few times resulting in a muffled and bestial roar from the creature as it began to fall free from the stasis.
"Yeah, we've got you, you piece of shit," he shouted in anger and hatred as the beast skid to a halt and slowly turned to face them, readying for another charge and shaking JD as it looked so... so evil, vile, filled with the blackest and most hate filled eyes that had a sickening glow of yellow behind them... it was almost too much to shake but he had to soldier on, even if he was seeing weird symbols flashing at the corners of his vision.

Lea made room for the second charge, but the hulking mass stopped short, resting between the two. "Fuck. jeff, get-" Lance was cut off as brute lurched back and punched both soldiers into their respective walls, knocking a decent chunk of their health to yellow. Lance coughed as he stood, the beast turning towards JD first since he landed more serious shots. The beast stared down with cold eyes as it made its choice. Raising both hands to smash into JD. Lance stood as quick as he could, coughing blood into his helmet. "Fuck you!" He shouted before jamming the barrel of his rifle into the yellow mass on the left, firing a few shots. Due to the close range the rounds flew through with little force but angered the thing enough to thrash about. In the shakedown Lea was knocked back as the brute stumbled a few paces down the hall and ducked down, its arms curling around for protection. A quiet groan came from Lance as he shook to his feet. "JD talk to me! If you fucking die on me I swear to god!" He called out to his brother, his vision blurry as he used a small medpack to heal up some.

No matter how hard JD tried to dodge the second charge, he was powerless. He was absolutely petrified, frozen to the bone and staring as the beast barreled down toward him and his partner while the symbols flashed closer into his line of sight. Then he felt the impact and it knocked the wind out of him.

In the moment that followed as his body tried to get him to breathe, it was as if all time had slowed. Not only that, but he was no longer on the station, no longer a grown man. Rather, he was a boy again and he was hiding, afraid as the storm raged outside with thunderous booms erupting around him as the lightning crashed down outside his childhood home.
He finally heard the voice calling out for him, but it was not that of his brother in arms. But rather...
"Nana," he croaked out as he finally choked down a breath, seeing her clear as day among the red scaled vision and all of the symbols dancing around.
"Is that you, Nana..." he called out softly for his grandmother, a woman who had been dead for a great many years now. He could hear Lea and Lea could hear him, but JD was lost in his delusion.
He could hear the sounds of terror in the background and finally it was like a switch flipped and the world came back to Jeff in a flood. Everything poured in at once, the color went back to normal and the symbols disappeared as JD took in a sharp and ragged breath.
"Fuck," he choked out as he coughed up blood as well, trying to scramble to his feet but still reeling from the mighty blow.
"Lance, Lance," he repeated in his haze as he came to and was still trying to find his way upright, looking like a baby deer trying to stand and walk for the first time.
