Great Gate

No one knows the origins of the Great Gate. Most have never heard of it yet others claim it has been dormant in New Brimsbury for as long as they can remember. The Gate links the human world to Fovea, homeworld of the Atroxes.

Example of an Atrox

Atroxes are vile creatures that come in different shapes and sizes. They are strong, vicious and some are even intelligent, to an extent. In large groups, they can easily overpower humans and cause damages to human structures. Suffice to say they were considered a real threat to humanity.

Vigil of Old in Beast Form

To fight against the creatures, humans formed the Vigil Portae or Gate Watchers. Equipped with Vigil Seals, they were given the ability to morph into powerful humanoid beasts. And with this gift, they were finally able to take back the world by pushing the Atroxes back to Fovea. In the Grey War, their final battle against the Atroxes, the Vigils managed to collapse the Great Gate. Though not completely sealed, the collapse left only a small opening. This prevents the larger Atroxes from crossing through, thus significantly crippling the Atrox’s offensive forces.

The war was won; Sightings of Artoxes became few and far between.

A century had passed since then, and the world has evolved. People were no longer warriors and mages, and instead became engineers and doctors. The world had turned a new leaf with the discovery of science and technology. All things supernatural were considered superstitious and the vigil was but a forgotten myth.

The gate was hidden in a forest and around it was built a school. Named after a local landmark, a dormant volcano, Vulcan High is now an average high school, albeit an isolated one.

Due to the recent increase in Atrox activities, the students were restricted within the windowless dormitory after 7.25pm, everyday without exception. The students were kept in the dark regarding the gate but that couldn't stop them from coming up with their own version of the myth based on weird sounds some of the students claimed to have heard, little did they know that it was mostly true.

To ensure the safety of the students and at the same time to prevent Atroxes from escaping the school grounds; The Vigil was reformed in the form of the Student Council. Each member is given a Vigil seal which grants them the ability to morph like the Vigils of Old. The student council takes care of the school around the clock. During the day, they run the school, managing funds, arranging clubroom and organizing events while at night they silently patrol the grounds for Atroxes.

Florah Delvain

dragon-final2-copy.jpg

Personality: An individual of arrogance and boastfulness, yet having a powerful enough mind to back up the talk. She is intelligent, strategic, creative, and tries her best to be original with anything she says, whether it be a speech or her sarcastic humor. Florah is not one to be easily persuaded into doing something she is not fond of, and is the first to tell it how it is, for she is quite blunt.

Others: Florah, after every transformation, becomes nauseas due to the rarity and power of her bestial form. She does not fall unconscious however, unless the form is sustained for too long.

Ashton Ventresca "Ash"

Gender: Male

Personality:

Ash is a born leader and is very friendly despite his intimidating apperance. He can be strict when he has to be but is generally very approachable by his fellow students. He enjoys various sports and had a muscular build. He dislikes violence and will often stand up for less-abled students which more often than not, gets him scorned by the school jocks and bullies. He is known to be unbiased in arguments which often leads him to solve disputes between students.

Others:

Ash is one of those few counsil members who dislikes his beast form (even to the point of despising due to it taking form of an Atrox). Though strong, his form is unpredictable and will often act on its own while keeping Ashton conciously trapped in his own body, aware of everything that is going on but with no means of controlling it. This typically ends with the other counsil members having to gang up and knock him out. Due to his memory of the events, he tends to get depressed after regaining conciousness.

At first she is very stubborn and stingy but once she gets to know you she'll warm up and start showing her kind side.

Other: Her beast form fits her perfectly because she is an insomniac. She can't sleep at night very well and in the day time she has school so that leaves her with very little sleep. She finds it more comfortable to sleep in the daytime.

A lone figure waited in the middle of a large circular room. His beard tied neatly as it hung over his chest. He took a deep breath as he pulled a hood over his head. It always seems to give him an odd sense of enigma as he donned the age old robe. Leaving only his mouth visible, he smiled contently. His eyes traced the walls of the empty room, looking for any sign of life. For the moment however, it seemed that he would have to wait.

Right outside, a young man stood shivering. Rubbing his hands together, he scanned the four hooded figures before him. "Cold evening eh?", he said, smiling awkwardly fighting the natural urge to shiver. His breath visible in the night air. "As you all know, tonight we'll have our induction ceremony. This "ritual"..", he said gesturing the quote with his fingers. "...have been performed for many years now. Long before my time.", he said looking at the people before him. "You have all been elected into the council at the end of last year and have been briefed on our current situation. Now all that's left is for you to join us officially as the Vigils.", he completed with a smile.

"So, lets not keep the headmaster waiting any longer, shall we? If you would just follow us into the tower, we can get this thing started.", he said as he walked and joined another group of people waiting for him near the entrance. The four hooded figures began walking, following their predecessors inside.

****

As much as he's heard about the ritual, Ash couldn't help being nervous. He's heard all the amazing stories of gaining a seal and the transformations. He had never seen a council member transform however and that makes it all the more intense. The cold air surrounding him felt distant, and the whole experience felt surreal to him as he followed the group. Questions ran through his mind, 'What animal will I take after? Hope the seal turns into something I can wear.' But all those thoughts vanished as the group crossed the threshold of the tower.

It was a tower they knew only too well, it being the location of the council offices. Tonight however, was the first time they were given access into the circular room. The true center of the council, the hidden base of the Vigil Portae. His eyes widened as the former student council president pulled on a lever at the side of a large, grotesque statue; revealing a small staircase leading into the underground section of the tower. As they walked on, his eyes wondered towards his comrades. Renard, Evelyn, Krissy....and even to Max and Florah, who had been initiated the year before, wondering if they were nervous as well, thinking of the form these new initiates will take after.

There was nothing more irritating to Florah than being obligated to attend a meeting of the council when none of the occurrences of the meeting had anything to do with her, other than her becoming President of course. She stood statuesque with her pale hands clasped in front of her, forcing her shoulders forward and her spine straight. Her sky-blue eyes examined every initiate that began to follow the stairs down into the darkness of the heart of the tower.

The only familiar face she saw was Max, and honestly, Florah could hardly stand the fellow senior. He was too orderly for her; his seriousness was like a never-ending gnawing of her flesh by a small termite—it would forever try to sink into her, annoying her and making her go insane until she snapped.

And those were her feelings on the dark-skinned boy that was Max. But of course, Florah did not say them aloud. That was ammunition she could use for later, just in case she got into a heated debate with the senior.

But, Florah did catch the look of a black-haired sophomore initiate that was being led down the stairs. Oh, how scared he looked! His quivering cheekbones and loose jaw were almost too much for Florah. The President of the Council cracked a smirk, slightly gawking at the boy as she made eye contact with him.

Anyways, as all of the initiates descended the staircase into the blackness of the tower’s core, Florah followed suit behind them, not truly afraid of anything that could possibly happen. If anyone transformed into a configuration too wild and untamed, Florah would show the true colors of her bestial form to bring an end to any and all disasters.

Besides, it wasn’t like anyone of the council had an equally powerful form as her. In her mind, Florah was unrivaled. No one had ever made her question that belief either.

This evening, the rather attractive soon-to-be President wore her lavish black heels that tapped against the stone as she meandered on. Oh, how she loved the noise of her own shoes. It brought attention to herself, and that she craved more than anything else.

Krissy followed the group from the back, skipping as she went. Despite being roughly the same age as the majority she was certainly the shortest, with a big broad grin, her long flowing black hair bouncing behind her. She was excited and curious to see what tonight would bring but she had brought her favorite teddy along with her regardless, Sprinkles the pink kitty huddled up in her arms.

Upon reaching the staircase going underground she patiently waited for everyone to pass by her before jumping down the steps one at a time in a rather playful manner. The only fear she currently had was more towards Florah, the girl with the extremely noisy shoes . To Krissy she seemed like someone she wouldn't be able to mess around with, certainly not when every loud clang of her clunky heels are ringing in Krissy's ears making her feel rather disorientated. She was looking forward to when the woman would stop walking or at least changed shoes.

Her thoughts drifted as she continued to skip along behind the group to what her beast form would be. She was hoping for something fun and colorful but also something that she would be able to use in order to defend herself. 'A snake would be cool' she thought to herself 'A nice rainbow snake!'

Max was in high spirits tonight. For once they had actually started something "on time" and so far everything was flowing smoothly. Everyone else saw him as uptight but they just didn't understand the importance of punctuality and organuzation. With out it all the world would fall into disorder and chaos. He watched the new members closely and wondered what was going through their minds. He watched Florah as well, but not the least bit curious of her unorthodox thoughts. If it was up to him she would be stripped of her power and taken off the Council with much haste but he couldn't deny the destructive power of her Vigil. Whether it was a good thing or not, wasn't his place to say, but she had defiantly saved his life more than once. She had also nearly killed him twice while fighting the Atroxis but Max tried not to hold grudges. Max snapped back to reality as continued to follow the events of the initiation ritual.

The circular room was quiet, dimly lighted by candles placed uniformly on the walls. It gave the room a somewhat eerie feeling and the howling that could be heard from somewhere beyond the walls did not help the case. Though the headmaster looked calm and collected, most of the seniors standing just behind the bearded old man looked rather bored.

"Good Evening. I'm sure all of you know the purpose of us being here today.", he said with with an aged voice. "The Vigils have long since protected these lands, and the lands beyond from a terrible enemy. Tonight we rejoice as four new members will be joining us.....as protectors and peacekeepers but most of all.....as Watchers of the Gate.", the headmaster said with a content smile before continuing his speech. "For centuries......"

****

Ash's eyes wondered around the room, looking at the seniors, the newly appointed members and then the dimly lit room itself. He was never good at listening to long speeches. Thoughts began flooding his mind as he tried his best to look attentive. In truth, none of what the headmaster said registered in his mind.

'Is she texting?', he wondered, looking at one of the seniors who's face was illuminated by the light from the screen of her phone, she was apparently giggling silently behind the headmaster. He rolled his eyes before moving them onto the next senior student. His eyes widened when he noticed that the student was apparently listening to an mp3 player, even moving his head slightly to a silent rhythm. Ash frowned a little before continuing his gaze upwards along the room walls. Something seemed off with the room. As his eyes wondered upwards, something shiny caught his eyes. 'What is that? Looks like a ball of fire..', he thought as he squinted to focus his eyes on the object but at that point his hood fell off and he immediately pulled it back on and stood straight, wondering if any of them had noticed.

"Ashton Ventresca, please step forward...”, the headmaster called. “Yes Mr. Grimsby,…I mean,... Yes sir.” Feeling lucky that he heard the headmaster’s call the first time, he stepped forward. “As the vice president of Vulcan High, I bestow upon you the Seal of the Vigils.”, the headmaster said, handing him a leather wristband. ‘A..a wristband?! Do I look like I’m into punk stuff?!’, he thought as he forced a smile. “T-thank you sir.”

He stepped back in line to allow the headmaster to proceed with the ceremony. ‘What animal will I take after this?’, he wondered before deciding that he'll worry about it after the ceremony. "Next, I call upon Ms. Katrina Birchard...... please step forward..."

Krissy looked around the room shaking nervously as her name was called out, she was hoping to go last but apparently that was not going to happen. She stumbled a little, tripping over her feet as she approached the headmaster and held out her hands, cupping them together in order to receive her seal of the Vigils. After watching Ash get a wristband she was expecting to receive one for herself.

The headmaster recited the line once again "I bestow upon you your Seal of the Vigils" as he pressed a small red hair clip in to her hands. She blinked at the thin red line laying in her hands. It looked even more insignificant than Ash's leather wristband. After staring at it with a somewhat disappointed expression the headmaster gave her a warm smile "Do not be fooled my dear, even the smallest of things are just as important as everything else...". Krissy turned a little crimson wondering if he was calling her important despite her rather short height. "Thank you sir!" she beamed happily before stepping back in to line next to Ash fixing the hair clip in to her fringe.

Swinton charged out of his dorm and out into the courtyard. "This is the last time I get caught up in those stupid jigsaw puzzles!" He panted as he charged down the sidewalk. Of course, he knew it wouldn't be the last time. Swinton ran as fast as he could toward the tower at the center of the school, thankful that pretty much every path lead toward it. He panted heavily as the base of the tower finally came into view. "Well, I hope I didn't hold anything up," he rushed over and opened the stairway beneath the ugly statue he'd been under so many times before. Swinton hurried his way down the stairs, pausing for a moment as he stepped off the final one to collect his breath.

Fully caught up, Swinton tried to sneak his way in, careful not to disrupt anything in case they'd started without him. Swinton stepped in just in time to see Krissy receive her Seal, and he smiled a "congratulations!" toward her. Swinton made his way toward where the other seniors stood. "So, uh, what'd I miss, guys?"

Florah had observed as both Ash and Krissy were awarded their respective Seals of the Vigils, and while her interest had faded away concerning the boy (due to his nervous and frightened appearance only moments ago), her eyes wandered over to Krissy. She had that one look that either signified her as a nuisance or a simple, petite girl that wouldn’t be able to handle herself in battle against the Atroxes. To put it rather plainly, Florah wasn’t too impressed with either of the initiates, unless their bestial forms ended up being rather fearsome, which she didn’t expect at all.

At that moment in time, Swinton DeWinton came strolling up, breathing slightly heavily from his running. He asked what he missed, and Florah cast her eyes of sky-blue to her left, peering at the senior. How she hated his name. Who would have their child’s name rhyme? It was hilarious, and embarrassing for the boy. “You haven’t missed much; two newcomers have been initiated so far,” Florah whispered, looking back at the line of initiates as they advanced. “But maybe you should arrive on time. I’ve wasted my time being here, and if I’m here, you should undoubtedly be here,” Florah said, not even looking at the fellow senior as she spoke.

Oh how she wanted this whole ceremony to end. Florah had little to no curiosity concerning any of these new initiates.

"Sorry about that, Pres," Swinton smiled and scratched the back of his head. "Just kinda... got caught up for a moment." Swinton coughed and turned his attention to the new initiates. "Not bad," he thought to himself. "I mean, I probably wasn't any different than when I was first initiated." Swinton subconsciously put his hands into his pants pockets and began to play around with the pen. "Hey," he whispered, "What do you think they'll transform into? I bet Ash has something dumb like a puppy-dog, eh?" He chuckled quietly before the headmaster gave him a sideways glance, causing Swinton to quiet down. Knowing that the ceremony would take quite a good bit of time, Swinton pulled out a stick of gum from his hoodie pocket it and began to chew on it, ready to get the ceremony over so he could celebrate with the newbies.

Evelyn was extremely happy that this ceremony was not happening during the day because just for this occasion she wished to be wide awake for. Despite the bored look on her face she was actually very excited. Finally, people will respect her and she will be looked up to instead of looked down as a stingy little brat by everyone else. This was just the thing to boost her confidence in herself. Looking around to the others she thought Maybe I really do belong here. She saw that everyone else looked like pretty normal people but then she shook her head. What am I thinking? I'm in this for one reason and one reason only, to be left alone and respected.

She then saw the first couple of people go up and be presented their seal and she couldn't help but wonder what beast and what seal would they bestow upon her. She pushed up her glasses seeing that they were slowly sliding down her nose and placed a strand of long purple hair behind her left ear. Observing the two as they got their seal she saw that both of them were a bit skeptic with what they were given but accepted it gratefully anyway. Seems as though the school doesn't do their research on what the new initiates might like as a seal. She scoffed finding it ironic that a school didn't study.

Soon enough it was her turn. Evelyn nonchalantly walked to the headmaster and silently stood as he said, "I bestow upon you a Seal of the Vigils". He then gave her a little clear case that had something small and shiny inside of it. She gingerly took it as if it were a fragile case but it in fact was just plastic. She opened it to find that it was really contacts. Well this totally disproves my thoughts on their studying. She looked around as she started to blush before taking off her glasses attaching to the frontal top of her cloak making it so the glasses hang on it as she took out the contacts and set them in her eyes which of course were set to her eyesight perfectly.

"Thank you," she mumbled as she walked away from the center looking completely different than she did going to the headmaster. Stepping away she now had eyes that seemed to shine a tad bit and purple hair bangs that were thick and went over her right eye. Never had she ever felt so empowered and didn't feel like she had to hide behind her glasses anymore.

It felt like an eternity but Ash stood silently in line with the rest of the new initiates. Everyone of them had received their Vigil seals and the ceremony was over. Ash looked up in teary eyes as he covered his mouth, apparently not being able to control his yawn any longer. 'Mr. Grimsby sure likes to talk.', he thought to himself in annoyance. As the speech ended, the headmaster receded into a small door at the back of the room.

"Now its about time.....", Aaron, the former president said as he stepped forward. "I'm sorry friends for the...um....extended nature of our initiation ceremony. But our headmaster had apparently decided to take it upon himself to alter our agreed upon speech.", he continued, looking annoyed himself at the duration of the ceremony. "Anyways, I think its about time we get this party started, don't you?", He said with a large grin as he pushed a button on a remote controller he was holding. Lights began to flood the room and soft music could be heard fading into a comfortable beat, giving the room an active ambiance.

Ash squinted as his eyes adjusted to the new lights. As he widen his eyes, he noticed the shiny object hanging from the ceiling. He had dismissed it earlier, noting the mystical glow the object gave out in the darkness. In the current brightness however, he could see the rotating disco-ball clearly, sending rays of lights randomly around the circular room. "Nice..", Ash muttered, a small grin had formed on his lips as he looked around the room. Several girls in maid outfits were moving around, placing food on what seemed to be a newly erected buffet table. Their male counterparts were placing a heavy looking soda dispenser on the table as well. He almost couldn't believe how just a few short minutes ago, the same room was dark and even somewhat intimidating.

"Ash...", a familiar voice called out from behind which caused him to turn instinctively towards the source. Aaron walked up to him with a smile and two cups of water, handing one of them over. "So, how'd you like the party?", Aaron asked. "Well, personally, I'd have gone with a different kind of music.", he said jokingly before admitting, "Nah, just kidding. This is great.", he said as he accepted the cup from the former president. "Nervous about tomorrow ?", Ash asked. "Nah, graduation is nothing.....I'm more nervous about my college application to be honest.", Aaron replied. "But never mind that for now. I came to talk to you about the council.", he said in a calm but serious note. "Florah will be a great president; She's smart, decisive and strong.........", he paused a moment before continuing. "But she isn't a people person. People are intimidated by her and they won't voice out what they really think. You, on the other hand, the students find you easily approachable. Despite how you see yourself, you are a diplomat and you need to support her."

Ash looked down at his drink, taking in his senior's advice. "Of course.", he replied.

Krissy looked astonished and excited with the change of the room being so dramatic, from a spooky looking cult club meeting hideout to a full on ravers dream in the matter of seconds. What with the wild colors spiraling around the room she kind of wondered if this was what high people would see. In any case it looked like it was time to mingle with the other members however in comparison to herself she didn't feel like approaching any of them. They all seemed scary and distant with the exception of the late boy with the rhyming name. And so Krissy gangnam styled her way across the room over to him. "Hey great party isn't it?!"

“About time,” Florah mumbled under her breath as the cult environment of the tower began to alter, the disco ball lowering and lighting aglow, cascading its rainbow of hues throughout the room. Tables were being set up, and a few soda machines. Honestly, the new President was absolutely tired of standing, and it wasn’t long before she was taking a seat at one of the tables with a soda in hand.

Florah crossed her legs, her azure eyes observing the room as the light flashed from the disco ball above. She saw Aaron, the former president, speaking with Ash for some ungodly reason. The matter they discussed seemed fairly important as well, considering Ash’s stern countenance and the hushed tones in which Aaron spoke.

If it hadn’t been obvious, with her sitting alone and all, Florah wasn’t much of a social person—but not because she was shy; it was because she generally didn’t get along with other people. Most individuals either irritated or frustrated her quickly. Not to mention that Florah was adamant in keeping up her leadership stature, which meant she seldom mingled with the new initiates or with fellow seniors who had inferior bestial forms. Then again, however, Florah was very determined to forge this Vigil group into one of the most successful of all time.

Now that… that would be difficult for her.

Swinton broke into a smile as the disco ball descended and the music began playing. "Now this is what I'm talking about!" He said as he began to half dance, half walk his way across the room before he came across Krissy greeting him. He chuckled at her dancing before replying, "Well, I haven't tasted the food yet, so we'll leave that up to speculation!" Swinton continued on his way over to the buffet table where he grabbed a plate and loaded it down with miniature sandwiches, fruit, and anything else he could pack on there. He popped one of the sandwiches in his mouth, smiled at the taste of smoked turkey, then frowned slightly as he realized that he had just swallowed his gum.

Swinton, plate piled high with food, began to mingle around the room, looking for someone to talk to. At first, he began to walk toward the Pres, but stopped after only two steps when he remembered that she didn't much like other people. Swinton sighed to himself and made his way back to where he left Krissy, "You were right, it is a pretty great party!" He tossed a few grapes into his mouth and held out the plate to Krissy, "Want some?" he asked, swallowing the fruit.

Ash turned his gaze towards Florah. The new president seemed distant somehow. As the rest mingled around, she had apparently chosen to sit alone. 'She looks lonely....... Does she even care though..? ', he wondered.

Throughout the past year, he had little to no interaction with the girl. Like most of the first year members, he stayed at a safe distance away from her. They left her alone and she probably wouldn't have liked it any other way. Things were going to have to change however; She was elected their new president.... and he, her vice. Whether she wants it or not, she will have his support.

Realizing that he was staring at her the whole time, he turned his gaze away and a small intrigued smile formed on his lips. Looking away now he realized that it was the first time he had take the time to really look at her. She looked pretty cute behind that ice cold stare, he thought. Ashton shook his head, driving away the thoughts before deciding it would be appropriate for him to go over and greet his new leader.

He was just a few steps away from her when he felt a subtle but noticable vibration from his newly acquired wristband. His eyes widened at the unfamiliar sensation, looking right a it. Not a couple of seconds later the music stopped and in its place, a siren blared accompanied by rotating red lights.

"Crap, not now.", Aaron exclaimed as he hurried over towards Ashton. "I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to borrow your seal. ", he said deciding to take it upon himself to relieve Ashton of the vigil seal. Ashton was alarmed but didn't protest. Aaron went on to put the wristband on his own arm. "You might want to stand back a little.", Aaron said with a little wink before his eyes turned serious. Right as Ashton took a couple of steps backwards, he saw lights emanating from the former president's body. He could only stare in silence as the president's body started changing.

Coats of fur pushed from under Aaron's skin, completely covering it. His head distorted and his muscles buffed up. Gradually, his physique grew larger and when it finally stopped, he looked to be at least 10ft tall. Aaron had turned around towards Ashton just in time for Ashton to see his fangs and claw grow out. His last feature to change was his green round eyes which turned into an almost glowing shade of yellow with a sharp, black slit which was his pupil.

"Can't wait to see your form but we'll handle this one. Consider this a parting gift.", the large beast said a coarse, almost growling voice. Realizing the look Ashton was giving him, he continued. "Oh, come on... Wolves are cute. But me, I'm the real deal. Hyenas are badass creatures.", he grunted in pride. Ashton could only manage an awkward half laugh at the comment. Without warning, Aaron jumped and ran on all fours towards the door only to have to wait for the cargo elevator door to open. 'So much for my cool moment.', Aaron thought as he awkwardly stood in front of the door. By that time, Ashton had ran over next to him. "Probably should've gone outside before changing, huh? You'd at least fit through the door.", Ashton said with a teasing smile as he went past Aaron and out the door towards the staircase they had descended from earlier that night. Aaron could only hang his head, sighing in embarrassment.

The new President had been apathetically drinking her can of pop, her sky-blue eyes dazing off into oblivion. Out of the corner of her eye, however, she had noticed the gaze of one of the boys: Ashton Ventresca—the sophomore Vice President that Florah had seen earlier with an expression of fear and anxiety.

She never fully returned his stare, but it was slightly beginning to make Florah uncomfortable. Why the hell was he staring at her? But suddenly he turned around for a split second, which Florah enjoyed greatly, but he returned a few seconds later and actually began walking toward her. At this point, Florah’s azure orbs were directed toward him, eyeing him peculiarly as he approached.

At that moment, Florah’s draconic amulet began to vibrate against the open flesh beneath her neck. Red lights flashed, and sirens blared throughout the room. She was all too familiar with this routine, and as such, immediately stood, passing Ash by without any hint of care.

As Florah headed towards the exit, a sly grin spread across her countenance as she saw Aaron steal Ash’s sigil and instantly turn, forgetting that his form was too large to exit the room via the door. “You’re such a dumb ass, Aaron. Thank God you’ve graduated,” Florah scoffed sarcastically, giggling and shaking her head as she left the room, ascending the stairs of the tower that they had come down only a half an hour or so before.

((Florah isn’t going to change until she’s out of the school, so I’ll let you bring the group out there @maxacec , since I don’t know the corridors of the school and whatnot.))

Swinton was enjoying himself until he felt a curious buzzing coming from his pocket. For a moment, he forgot exactly what that feeling meant. That is, until the lights began flashing and the sirens began to blare. Swinton sighed and mumbled to himself, "And to think, I was really starting to enjoy tonight." He tossed his plate of food over to the nearest table -most of its contents rolling off and about - reached into his pocket and grabbed the click pen located there, and began to sprint toward the stairwell he'd come down only a little while ago. He caught up to Florah, perhaps pushing himself a little to hard in the process, and matched his pace with hers.

"Just figures something like this would happen, huh?" He panted.

Ashton ran back up the staircase, knowing full well the meaning of all the alarms. It was showtime.....though he was admittedly disappointed that he wasn't going to test out his beast form, he knew none of the new initiates were ready. They knew nothing of morphing, let alone fight as one. The group headed outdoors but only silence waited for them. Some of the other ex-committee members had also decided to borrow seals from new initiates; with the exception of Evelyn's contacts, which was a pretty logical decision by the ex council member who had decided to stick with the standard issue, student council extendable nightstick baton. Even though only ranked council members get vigil seals, normal members are still entrusted with the baton upon joining the council.

Ash tightened his grip on his nightstick as his eyes scanned the area in front of the group. From the corner of his eyes he could see lights from behind him as more people transformed into their beast forms. "Lucky the new batch of students hasn't arrived yet, huh?", he said with a relieved half-smile to no one in particular, his eyes remained forward.

It wasn't long before a clear noise could be heard a short ways ahead. Since the school year hasn't officially begun, some of the lights were turned off within the grounds which didn't help their case. 'Something's heading towards us......Crap, I'm starting to get nervous.', Ash thought to himself but his outward appearance had no resemblance to the thought. He knew non-vigil members are not supposed to engage Atroxes but they were given the baton for a reason. Though its rare for the vigils to be overwhelmed by Atroxes, the possibility is still there......its still a big risk; a deadly risk.

As the sirens blared out Krissy looked around rather scared shaking all over "What is going on?". When everyone started to run for the door she did too trying to keep up with the others noticing she felt a weird sensation from her head. Reaching up she found out it was coming from her hair clip she had slipped in to her hair. She peered around nervously trying to see what was going on and what the commotion was all about when a tall fresh faced female with purple hair smiled cheerily at her. "Don't worry we will take things from here, but I am going to need to borrow that" She pointed at the hair clip in Krissy's hand. She backed away slowly "But.. it is mine".

The tall female, obviously one of the ex-committee members chuckled "Yeah, I know but if we going to stand a chance of surviving tonight I need to borrow it". Krissy reluctantly handed it over, she had thought the seals were special, that it would be an item only they could use. The thought of someone else just being able to take it and use it in the same way was something she hadn't thought off. She was actually rather jealous that another person was going to use it first and that it wasn't her.

Great Gate

No one knows the origins of the Great Gate. Most have never heard of it yet others claim it has been dormant in New Brimsbury for as long as they can remember. The Gate links the human world to Fovea, homeworld of the Atroxes.

Typical appearance of a low level Atrox
