Twenty years ago, a portal opened in New York City that forever changed the world. This portal was to another world, one full of magic and strange humanoids. Anyone near the blast that opened the portal either died or woke up with some kind of magical ability. Non magic humans began calling them ‘Sorcerers’ and each Sorcerer had to register with the government after a few bad eggs decided to use their abilities for not very legal things. Sorcerers are almost always viewed with suspicion but do not seem to be as hated as the creatures that came through the portal.
First were the Xadenians, which looked almost completely human except for their unnaturally pale skin and brightly colored hair which often came in hues of vibrant pinks, greens, blues, and yellows. Their natural infinity for magic rivaled the Sorcerers.
The next creature were the hybrids, strange half animal, half human creatures that took on the characteristics and abilities of whatever animal they looked like.
Finally there were goblins, slippery little creatures who were masters in machinery, thievery, and being total slimeballs.
The portal was open for three days before closing and the city eventually adapted to its new inhabitants, simply named “the Others” by the humans. For twenty years, the Others, Sorcerers, and humans lived in an uneasy and fragile peace where the Others are treated as second class citizens by both non Sorcerer and Sorcerer humans while Sorcerers are treated with suspicion by the non magic humans.
Y/C lived with his parents when the portal opened up right in their backyard. His parents died, but he did not. He awoke with a magical ability of your choice, that ability unnaturally strong for a human due to his proximity to the initial blast and magical radiation that came from the portal. He grew up in the system and became a private eye, always working alone and solving cases for humans, Sorcerers, and the Others. Well, he worked alone until six months ago when he found himself hiring my character as his pint-sized assistant.
My character is a young Xadenian girl, while being well over fifty years old, Xadenians age slower so she is about eleven years old in human years. Now, why would a loner private eye hire himself some Xadenian kid? The kid is a literal genius with her IQ and her magic being focused on machines and technology. Y/C may be one of the strongest magical humans but let’s just say that technology seems to have a grudge against him. So, now he is living with some smart ass Xadenian kid.
