  • At the behest of the Savior, the group dashed for the exit of the forest into the hill clearing south of them. As they ran, the Blutbatz were forced to pursue at a lower altitude and were no longer able to sweep in for strikes as they would against stationary targets.

OOC: Here is a suggestive sequence of events we can follow.

Orchid heard the savior calling her and took her look of the hunters hovering above to look at her instead. She approached close before talking to her. "Priestess Nightingale, we must get out of the forest. I will be fine for now. Please help me get the others.” She pointed southward and explained quickly that they were not far away from the clearing, and that a short sprint should get them into open space. "Everyone! Everyone! We must exit the forest! If we get out, we might stand a better chance!" She guided her or them about the essential move they had to make. Orchid nodded and called for Gareth and Yesult loudly to pass the instruction to them believing that they could pass the message to stewards that were closer to them. After killing a few bats, the beasts’ number had dropped and number of attacks had decreased which was a good chance to run. “We’ll go together, milady. Please hold on to me if your wounds make running hard…” She told the girl with silky black hair which had turned to a mess due to struggling against blutbatz’s tackles. Orchid held her arm and ran to the sought of the woods till reaching an open area which made it easier to trace and hit those flying bloodsuckers.

"Right, let's get going! Keep the savior safe Orchid!" Gareth shouted as he engaged one of the Blubatz that were targeting the savior. He brandished his staff and swung in an upward arc while jumping to try and land a hit. To his pleasant surprise, the attack was successful, although not so effective. In anger it swooped down and attempted to claw at the man from above but Gareth managed to sidestep its attack. From there, he started running for the end of the forest like everyone else, since his distraction was somewhat successful and there was no need to waste energy fighting here.

  • Priestess Orchid lifted the Savior to her knees to support her and help get her out when another Blutbatz came in for a strike. Gareth Alber stood close and bravely protected the Savior from further harm. The others aware of the situation from seeing the Savior flee the forest, remained close behind forming a sort of physical barrier against the remaining Blutbatz that began to give chase. Spiritua only has a little energy left to help them, but her physical injuries were proving to be a burden on the rest of them. A few seconds of chase and the forest's thick canopy began to dissipate and sunlight was filtering through the branches. " Look! " she said glancing back at the Blutbatz. " They don't like the light! " she yelled as she observed the flying beasts readily avoiding the streams of light. However even as they marched along at full tilt, they were not giving up the chase.

The group came through the last few trees and into the open grassy hills with the Blutbatz still in pursuit, however one could notice that they were not appearing so comfortable in the open sunlight, their flight became erratic and perhaps they could take advantage of that. The Savior began an incantation that required no words to use.

It was a wholesale retreat, something he was in fact used to at times when battles turned south. better to hurt your pride than hurt your numbers right?

But too angry bats?

That was... rather disconcerting.

"Alright! Everyone pull back! Move move!' his orders came late, but better than never, not that they weren't already but it was best to clear any thoughts of standing ground however you can. the mercenary turned tail and booked it after the rest of the others, his armor slowing him down but keeping himself between the rest of the group and the flurry of fury that were the bats was certainly a necessity.

After their flight it seemed that they got a respectable distance, at least enough as to clear away some of the woods from their surroundings and allow some of the light to break through, which seemed to affect the bats in a negative....

Light.

Enough that a clear opening was made for the collection of people to make their attempt at a counter attack! Or at least to chase the bloody damn things away, since he brought up the rear, he was the first to meet the bats. Though he had been running and fighting just moments prior, he felt.. Odd... it was as if he got that power the savior blessed upon him not to long ago, and got an even BIGGER boost!

Hell he felt like he could take on the world!

Pointing his halberd forward, towards the fluttering confused bats he steadied himself, just as he had always practiced with master. That stupid sounding arte... he had always put it aside because of how dumb of a name it had... But.. right now he felt as if he had to do it, he had to use it! taking in a deep breath he spun the polearm in his hands once, stepped forward and thrust towards the bat within the middle of the bunch!

And with a resounding blast of force from the simple arte, marc watched as the bats were sent hurtling back into the woods, bereft of their lives.

The man stared forwards for a long time, keeping the stance that he finished off with in the end of the arte. His breathing deep and soft, he felt positively tired as all hell, but in the very least the enemy was slain...

The man could only utter these few words.

"What the bloody hell was that?" the man asked, dropping his halberd to catch whatever breath he could again.

Yseult DuBoisLocation: The Southern Woods, San Ska Rae Archipelago Date: Eausen 1st, 997 CYAD Time: Nightfall
Companions: Everybody! Mood: Relieved Goal: Help heal the injured

Marc felled a second of the creatures as Adelaide moved to attack a second of her own. The fight seemed to be turning when Orchid's voice rang out over their heads. The order to retreat. Peeking out from behind Volkan, Yseult could see more than a handful of the fanged, flying creatures looming in the shadows.

She took a few lingering steps backward, keeping to the balls of her feet in case another of the Blutbats rushed her. Stepping forward with his staff, Gareth took a swing at one of the creatures, while Marc beside him helped hold the creatures at bay while the Saviour fled with the tall priestess.

Finally they turned, the two men bolting toward her, away from their attackers. Yseult turned to run too, chasing after the distant figures. Physical exertion was no stranger to Yseult. She easily kept pace, even gaining on the pair running ahead before they eventually stopped. Hoping beyond hope that the creatures had lost interest, she stopped just short of the Saviour and Orchid. Turning, she saw Gareth and Marc still running along behind, the Blutbats flapping along behind, hissing as their clawed fingers tore at the air.

The tall warrior stopped and turned, pointing his pole-arm back at them. What was he doing?! Without warning, a blast wave of concussive force flew forward from his weapon, pulverizing the creatures and sending them flying back toward the treeline. They vanished into the shadows with a series of thuds and cracks, leaving only the sound of the group gathering lost breath.

Yeult could barely believe her eyes. A faint glimmer of hope lit within her, and as the treeline remained still and undisturbed for long minutes it caught to a full burn. A smile spread across her lips as a kind of giddy-drunk giggle escaped from her lips. They were alive! Their first trial with the forces of darkness, quite literally, and they were still alive.

"Good work, sir Marc!"

Yseult was on the verge of running over to give the man a hug when she remembered the injured Saviour, and Orchid too. Turning, she rushed over to where the two had settled, the Saviour clearly more injured, but both women sporting bloody wounds. With anguish written across her face, the young brunette began to heal the saviour, knowing full well that Orchid would have insisted on it.

Situation: Getting rid of Blutbatz, trying to recover from the short fight

Orchid had run straight without looking back, not even as Gareth called to her. She trusted her back to the priest and just kept running since protecting the savior was their priority. She could hear him trying to repel blutbatz and Yesult running a few steps behind _considering sound of light steps it could be no one but her_ and then it was Marc’s call for retreat that reached her. In no time almost all girls were out of woods and she could clearly see how wary of light that batch of flying fur was. “You are right, milady… they can’t fly well in broad light…” She whispered in relief but it was soon to celebrate. The priestess kept her staff ready and covered for savior but there was someone else at the front line covering for all of them; Marc was standing there, facing several hovering beasts with his polearm grasped firmly in his hands. Orchid didn’t notice what exactly happened but with a single move the tall steward forced the foe into its slumber. “S… splendid! That was marvelous, Mr.Rondel…” She cheered for the tough guy with a wide smile then turned to Gareth. “Thank you, brother. I knew I can count on you.” She said in lower tone before observing the savior to see how badly her injuries were. Then it was time for Yesult to shine. She tried to heal the savior twice and their patient’s condition improved considerably. “Thanks, sister.” Orchid smile at the young girl who still seemed a little pale. “We’d better clean up the mess…” She muttered to herself as noticed the lady with black hair didn’t look healthy enough. Taking a deep breath, she concentrated on her healing power. Enchanting the Relieve once and her lady was almost as good as before entering the forest.

After making sure about savior’s safety, Orchid look over rest of the group. They sure needed to recover before another encounterance while she had enough energy to heal only once. “My God… this much struggle just for a bunch of smaller animals… what is they were bigger beasts or…” Not wishing to mention fiendish souls who probably were going to stop savior from performing her mission, she shook her head in remorse. “I’m only ashamed of my own incompetence…” She brought her gentle smile back to her lips and looked at her comrades one by one. “Is everyone fine? If you’re wounded please let me take care of it…” The maiden offered a little help.

Volkan vs Blutbatz (9)

Blutbatz descended from the trees, poised to strike at the savior and her companions. Before Volkan's mind processed the event in full, he immediately unsheathed his rapier, knowing that the presence of new enemies meant the savior's life was in danger. Despite Volkan's readiness, one of the blutbatz managed to surprise him with its quick speed, aiming straight at Volkan's jugular. At that moment, Volkan cleared his mind, trusting that a quick fall to the ground would protect his vitals from the belligerent bat. Fortunately, the maneuver was successful, as the blutbatz's rapid movement forced itself to crash into the trees, dazing itself. With success at Volkan's reigns, he pushed the advantage by plowing his rapier straight into the Blutbatz backslide, piercing deep into the Blutbatz's vitals. Instant death overcame the Blutbatz, which allowed Volkan to devote his attention to the savior. Still, he was cautious of additional ambushes from the Blutbatz, believing that the death of one bat would attract more to the group's location.

As he noticed the others dealing with several Blutbatz, he took a careful approach to ensuring that his companions flanks were aided in case of any potential side swipes from the enemy. Initially the group was well separated with Orchid chasing after a Blutbatz ahead of the group, while Marc and Adelaide dealt with their own Blutbatz's problems. His watchful eye was on the savior, yet he held no healing techniques, so he kept to fighting the Blutbatz, hoping those gifted in healing magic would aid the savior's current wounds.

Volkan vs Blutbatz (8)

On one occasion, Ysuelt hid herself behind Volkan, as one of the Blutbatz rushed at her. Her words, "Please, I ... It's after me!," triggered a protective response from Volkan, as he switched his positioning to shield her from any potential strikes. Fortunately, the two's pairing confused the Blutbatz, leaving it vulnerable for Volkan to stab at the bat's wings. With little vitality remaining, the Blutbatz escaped the area, clinging to whatever life it had left. Volkan placed his gaze on Ysuelt's cowering form, trying to convince her everything's all right, "It'll be alright. Trust your comrades." Once he finished that statement, he lifted up his left hand to give a thumbs up.

From a distance, Volkan spotted Orchid helping the Savior with her injuries. He breathed a sigh of relief. If the Savior were to die here, he'd surely be considered a failure, if he survived the incident. A whole slew of trouble was bound to follow him, and so, a course of adrenaline surged in his body. Then, he heard the savior's words, "Everyone! Everyone! We must exit the forest! If we get out, we might stand a better chance!" She pointed southwards, and Orchid relayed the savior's commands to Gareth and the rest of the group. Now in a cohesive, albeit chaotic matter, he bolted towards the clearing alongside his comrades, acting as a wall for any attacks directed at the savior.

With the light beaming down on the group and Blutbatz, Volkan detected the Blutbatz moving in an eclectic manner, as if the light harmed their perception of travel. After the group entered the clearing, Marc delivered the decisive, final blow upon the bats, eradicating their pursuit. Despite only killing a single bat, and harming several others, Volkan was glad that everyone survived the onslaught. All Volkan wanted to do was rest due to the stress of today, since he dealt with bandits, Blutbatz, and a whole load of running. He complained with a small joke, "So this is what a horse feels like, ha ha...," before plopping his body down onto the plains. His body slept, resting itself on the grass, even with the bright sunlight radiating over Volkan's body. Despite his strength and military experience, his body simply gave out.

  • The Savior was unsure how her innate powers would affect the person. She had only tried it once and that time the results were positive. The first time she was made aware of this power, she vowed never to use it, for it seemed to be a violation of a persons being. In this time of need however she realized her desire to stay alive outweighed her principles and morality on that issue. Acting on pure instinct her 'connection' to the spiritual found its way to Marc Rondel who possessed a latent ability that may be just what was needed to repel the small horde of Blutbatz. In fact, after witnessing the effects, she concluded what she did was the right thing to do, though in her mind that too, was just an excuse.

Free from the little flying terrors, the group felt some relief as they rested in the open field. She unknowingly had clung to Priestess Nightingale as she secretly casted her chant. Yseult Dubois came over to heal them both. She could feel the warmth of her spiritual force as little by little it restored her health and healed her wounds. First Orchid, now Yseult, and of course, the Savior herself possessed healing techniques. She was not sure if it was an inherent trait for women or that the group was just lucky to have 3 healers around. " You have my gratitude Ms. Dubois, but surely, Mr. Alber of Mr. Bey would require your kindness more than myself. " she implored. A quick glance over to Volkan suggested to her he was either collapsed of exhaustion or from the pain of his wounds.

Orchid brought out a good point regarding their first battle. If they had this much difficulty regarding random animals, how much more so when actual, aggressors such as assassins or bandits. She felt responsible for the whole situation, after all she was the Savior. In her mind she was supposed to help the people, so how could she do that if she could not even help those literally closest to her. " I share your concern Priestess... I can only offer that we were unprepared. It was not a lack of strength, just a lack of.... dare I say, Unity!" she giggled trying to lighten the mood without downplaying its seriousness. She then addressed everyone. " Really though, even with our current strength, if we had the experience of working together, my heart tells me we would have come out victorious. Something to work towards! " she said excitedly. " Even though we are divided, humankind has done some remarkable things, imagine what it would be like if we were united." she added. She could not help about thinking of the Journey and the outcome it can have, even if her words did sound a bit like preachy unity rhetoric.

She then approached Marc Rondel in front of the others and bowed her head in gratitude toward him. " Thank you for your service to this Journey Mr. Rondel. " The Savior bowing to someone was unheard of and not proper protocol for the Journey of Unification. Spiritua however, felt she at least wanted the people she journeyed with to know and understand her as a person, not as the Figurehead of the Church of Unity. She felt their convictions during the battle, and though they were all different, she had confidence in them as a person. At least in front of them, she would be Spiritua. " Everyone.... you may call me Spiritua. " she said turning around from Marc and facing everyone else. " Of course, only between us. " meaning when in front of anyone else, they would call her Savior.

Well then!

Didn't Marc feel like a damn hero!

"No worries folks! it's what ol' Marc is here for!" the Merc laughed, abit embarrassed with the shower of praise, not to mention the special thanks from the Savior to! He felt like the biggest pig in the pen right about now! Even if the savior got nibble on, and he wasn't fully sure WHAT the hell happened back there, and the fact he was really damn tired just about now... Well, it could be worse, they would get outta this no worse for wear, the group had a few healing looking sorts so they could lick their wounds as they need to.

Though it seems now that they had the right to call the savior as her name, Spiritua, he'll keep in mind to use Savior when they have people around.

"Well then folks." the merc rested the haft of his halberd upon his shoulder. "Rest up abit, we still got some walkin' before we hit the town. We definitely gotta work on our fighting henceforth, we can't let that happen again. We we're getting torn up in there and that's no lie. Even if we ended it no worse for wear, we have to devise a strategy to keep Spiritua safe, we'll have to run drills, because I know for certain after that we gotta start taking real care of how fights go. That won't be our last, I feel it in my gut." the man stepped forwards and stood next to the savior, doing his best to at least sound somewhat authoritative.

It also occurs to him how rigid Spiritua's name was, no way to chop that into a nickname thats for certain.

"We'll figure that out after we get to town and find some time, I know most of yea ain't a warrior, so it'll be nice and simple, so don't worry too much." Marc smirked with a small chuckle. "Ain't gonna have you all running drills just yet, so don't you worry." he broke out in a coarse laugh, ending with a quick fix of his hat.

"Alright, lets lick our wounds and shove off, we got a long ways to go just yet!"

@ everyone here.

Yseult DuBoisLocation: The Southern Woods, San Ska Rae Archipelago Date: Eausen 1st, 997 CYAD Time: Nightfall
Companions: Everybody! Mood: Tired beyond description Goal: Town, food, sleeeeep

Yseult offered a sheepish smile to both Orchid and the Saviour as they each offered their thanks. In earnest she had done very little, and as she watched, Orchid's Arte repaired twice the damage her meagre casting had. She knew her powers would grow in time, but it was somewhat frustrating to see the difference between daftness and deftness laid out before her like this.

The saviour's question caught her offguard. She was dumbfounded for a few seconds, stammering attempted words under her breath before finding her footing. She spoke, quiet and without confidence, but loud enough to be heard.

"I ... I'm sure everyone would agree that your well-being is tantamount ... it's through YOU that we are most powerful, look at what sir Rondel just did!"

Yseult's brow twitched with a frown as Orchid voiced the worry they all had. What if it had been bandits, or some huge beast ... how many of them would lay dead, would the saviour be among them. She glanced to Volkan, laying sprawled and sleeping across the grass. Would SHE even be alive if he'd not been there.

She was shocked when the saviour offered the warrior a bow, and even more-so when she spoke her name aloud. Having been raised with the traditions of the church, it felt wrong to break tradition and use the young woman's real name ... but then, if that's what she wanted. Yseult swallowed the conflict she felt growing in herself and nodded as Marc suggested they all take a moment to rest before moving on.

The sun burned red on the distant horizon, sinking ever closer behind the mountains as Yseult dragged herself over to a patch of grass and sat. She felt drained, empty, a listless kind of tired that had crept into her bones with the casting of her last healing spells. Her eyelids felt like the heavy bags of grain and flour she used to fetch to Sister Choux's kitchen. Settling onto the grass, Yseult winced on her way down, taking a moment to inspect the damage to her garments, and the flesh beneath. She had said nothing at the offer of healing. With her own repertoire spent, the group couldn't afford to waste what Artes they had left. Heaving a light sigh, the young woman sprawled back onto the grass, peering up at the amber-coloured sky for long minutes before falling into a light slumber.

She woke groggily a few dozen minutes later, the group picking themselves back up to retake the road. The sun had sunk behind the horizon, the sky lit with the last traces of its light. A cool wind blew across the land, heralding the night. Pulling at the shoulders of her garment, Yseult paused to rifle though her bag for her coat, drawing out the long, leather garment and slipping it across her arms before slinging her pack back on. Dragging herself on leaden feet to the middle of the group, the young woman trudged along in silence, rubbing at her eyes occasionally to dispel the sleep resting there.

Situation: resting

"So this is what a horse feels like, ha ha...," said the blond sailor before collapsing on the grassy ground. Orchid rushed over the man, watching him with widened worried eyes. She took his pulse by pressing his wrist between her finger tips gently. “He’s just too tired…” Said the maiden as got to her feet and left him alone to rest as he wished. She approached the savior and stood near her. “Regarding stories he said of his fight with thieves and long time running due to being late, he must be exhausted.” She explained in lower tone.

The leader in exchange comforted her with a excited small speech about unity which effected Orchid’s spirit positively, making her believe they could get in sync and improve soon enough to be able to defend themselves against lethal threats. The lady then approached Marc Rondel in front of the others and bowed her head in gratitude toward him. Orchid would do the same if she hadn’t frozen in spot due to surprise. The savior bowing to her steward was as unexpected as a king bowing to a page. It was acceptable when she respected them as a group like that but to bow her head at individuals was too much for the priestess to stomach. Yet, she pushed her wonder back and bowed at Marc behind the savior as she was a true follower of her. Then, the black haired lady finished her talk by a sweet surprise that covered the former shock; she let them know her name and allowed its usage in privacy which gave the young maiden sense of being special. She smiled widely and bowed to Spiritua. “Thanks for trusting us with your name, milady!” She said and as straightened up her cheeks were bashfully pinkish for feeling her heart getting closer to the woman she had admired for years even before meeting her. “Your beautiful name is so fitting to your stature... as if you’ve been chosen by birth…” the girl added slightly shyly as wasn’t sure if her guess was right. There were a lot to hear and tell about the savior which wouldn’t necessarily be true.

Orchid had nothing to say while being showered with advice by Marc. The man seemed to be a veteran so into survival techniques which she appreciated at the moment. They took his advice and settled to rest for a couple of hours. Orchid too, sat on the plain and watched others getting some sleep. She was tired as well but couldn’t sleep due to excitement or her habit of little sleeping. Her eyes remained wide open as she stretched her tired legs on the moisten cool grass and took her shoes off. She witnessed the sun setting, stars appearing and the moon rising and then her comrades rise one by one from their slumbers and she wore her shoes, stood and dust off her dress before picking her bag to get going forward.

" There are always those who reject salvation. "
- Ciel Temple Champion

The Saviors group took as much time as needed to regain their strength and catch their breath. As soon as Orchid and Yseult helped everyone to recover, the journey resumed towards the Southern Port town that would give the group access to the southern most archipelago; Dakara. The Savior said they would be reaching the town near sunset, and that is when Volkan mentioned that many sailors would have already returned home to the port. According to the letter of record Orchid received, Volkan was an experienced sailor with the Navy. The Savior concurred with his assessment. That is when Gareth said he would not mind spending the night at some Inn and getting some food in him. This caught the attention of Marc who also did not mind stopping for the day.

It appeared to the rest, that those two were already daydreaming about reveling in some well deserved Ale and fried fish. The Savior was not one to hinder such a delightful sounding event and therefore gave her approval. She thought it would also allow them to reflect on what has transpired. Their little ordeal with the Blutbatz served as a warning for any future engagements. If they were to succeed in battle, they needed to work in harmony with each other. The experience taught each of them a little about each other, their skills and powers and what particular roles each would excel at.

As they reached the summit of the final hill, they could see the lights of the port town twinkling in the distance. In the sky and on the sea were more lights from small airships and sea vessels returning to port. They found temporary residence at an Inn called the 'Drydock'. Once they settled their belongings they all assembled in the dining area to eat together. This time the Savior hoped the more intimate setting would open the way to some insightful and honest conversation.

Character Sheet: Volkan Bey
Date:
Eausen 1st 4pm
Location: Road to Southern Port

As Volkan Bey slept, while the Savior and company discussed the recent turn of events, Volkan dreamt of consuming delicious pastries with his family back at home. This pleasant dreamed quickly became a nightmare, when Blutbatz began to attack Volkan's family, killing his parents and siblings, before stealing Volkan's precious pastries. Fortunately, the nightmare forced Volkan wide awake at the same time his comrades were picking themselves up for another journey. No screams escaped Volkan's lips, as he slept, but his body turned itself many times during the horrors of his nightmare.

While everyone prepared themselves for another long distance of travel, Volkan checked his belongings, ensuring his pockets contained his gem, and his scabbard still held his rapier. Volkan watched as the Savior commanded the group forward to their next destination. A few glances here and there occurred from Volkan's wandering eyes to a groggy Ysuelt followed by a quick gaze over the abled faces of the others. For Volkan, Ysuelt's actions incurred a small chuckle to erupt from Volkan's mouth. Despite the group's seriousness, he broke the stillness with his own laughter, with yet another embarrassing event to add to his collection. "Heh...ehh. I'm so sorry, everyone. I'll be serious now. I'm just a little out of it. A simple rub of the eyes rose a laughter out of me...I really don't know why." He scratched his blonde hair in shame, before treading forward to the group's destination.

During the group's journey to the southern port, he overheard the others call the savior, Spiritua. Unsure of what to make of the word, he asked a question to the savior, "Excuse me, Savior. Why is everyone calling you Spiritua? Is that the church's way of saying Savior, or am I missing something here? I must be really out of it today, if I can't remember something from the church." He spoke those words to the Savior in a serious manner, with some conviction, as if to show what little pride remained in him, after the prior series of embarrassing events. After the Savior answered his question, he replied, "Oh," his facing turning bright red, "W-well, I shall call you S-spiritua from now on." Then, he heard Spiritua discussing the southern port, influencing him to speak yet again, hoping to offer credible information, "Oh, to inform you all, many sailors should be back at the port around this time of year. So, we should have ample security there, if they're not, well, drunk." Soon after Volkan's fact, Gareth and Marc mentioned something about an inn and food, which cheered up Volkan. After all, he missed sleeping in an actual bed, and the last time he consumed anything was this morning.

After trudging over the final hill, Volkan spotted the southern port's lights sparkling in the distance, coloring Volkan's eyes. As he traveled closer to the port, he gazed upon airships and sea vessels galore. A tremendous display of familiarity encouraged a bright smile to form over Volkan's face, as he reminisced about his times sailing the seas with his fellow sailors. In the next moments that passed, Volkan situated his belongings into his room at the Drydock Inn, located in the southern port. Spiritua had recently told the group to settle themselves in, before dinner, so Volkan followed those orders strictly, and this time he arrived at the dining table on time.

In the dining room, he waited for Spiritua, and when she arrived, he offered her a seat. He pulled the chair out, and once Spiritua stationed herself firmly onto the chair's frame, he gently pushed the chair in. If Spiritua was already seated, before Volkan arrived in the dining room, he would offer to aid the other ladies' a seat, before planting his rear on a chair. Those were simply Volkan's mannerisms, and how he was raised as a youth. While seated, he waited for the innkeeper to offer, or bring out menus. At this point, Volkan didn't care if the meal was horrible, or delicious; he only wished to consume some form of sustenance.

With the savior secured in the INN, Volkan buzzing around like a fly and the day coming to a close. Marc figured there was no time like the present to get a little bit of fishing in, sure he could eat, but he felt getting a few casts out was just more fun than sitting there watching folks fawn over the savior. Girl was going to get it from just about everyone she'll meet who notices her down the road, he didn't need to add to that. Granted, he did like the fact he got the special treatment earlier, can't say that didn't improve his... Spirits abit.

Puns at the savior's expence aside, he figured he'd leave the dinner to the others for now, and went off to the docks with his pole in hand.

Given it was late in the day, they were relatively empty, but the fresh smell of the briny salt water seas was only more than welcoming to the wayward mercenary. the setting of the sun painting the sky a vibrant orange was all the more appealing, a siren song to call the man towards a restful evening of tossing a baited hook into the water.

A call the man was all but happy to answer!

With the dock creaking under each of his steps the man stopped at the edge of the wooden planks and plopped himself on the edge, pulling out his fishing pole to begin. his mind drifted as he went through the familiar task of stringing up his line and baiting his hook. The group wasn't to bad, a bit weak in terms of fighting capability but, well, yea can't expect everyone to have years of military service. Always gotta be somebody working away in a library for everyone who's going out to fight.

Had he a chance, would he give up this life? Maybe he could give it up and become a fisherman? The sea called to him so sweetly sometimes he wondered if that was his true calling. Did many have this same trail of thought? Do the others in their group wonder what their lives could be like if they had a different profession? Does the savior think this way?

....

The man tossed his finished line into the waters of the bay, there wouldn't be much in the way of large fish around these parts, but this wasn't really here to get something to eat. The small baited hook made a satisfying plop into the swelling and waving waters, marc taking off his boots and dipping his weary feet into the waves to sooth the soreness of travel. His eyes stared into the horizon, admiring the beautiful sky and the shimmering waters, he could only wonder, just how long would it be before he had to head back inside. Would the others give out and call him first? Or would his stomach beckon him to fetch food first?

Or maybe one of them might come to him? He wouldn't mind, it's not like he was against talking to the bunch.

Especially since there were quite a few lovely- Ah!

A bite!

(Marc is available, but unless something comes up, or somebody talks to him, he'll be out fishing for a while. Feel free to pop over if you wish.)

Situation: Having Dinner at Drydock Inn

“I hope they have fresh milk and hot bread. That’s my favorite meal for dinner.” Said Orchid hopefully as occupied the seat beside Spiritua. She had flowed her into the dining room and waited for her lady to sit first and then had joined the table, watching Volkan’s respectful manners with admiring look in her eyes and a soft smile. The savior was so important to her that she would deeply respect anyone who showed any sort of devotion toward her and so the companions were especial people from her perspective. The priestess looked around the table questionably. “Where’s Mr. Rondel? Won’t he join us for supper?” She asked the other steward who had just asked for menu, and then she turned her face toward the black haired lady beside her. “Well, talking at dining table wouldn’t be proper… so I thought maybe after having hour meal we can discuss about our roles in the group. I wish to get in harmony with my brothers and sisters here… to be able to perform my duties as expected.” She spoke to her and everyone else at the table, explaining her reason for needing Marc at the same table as them. Meanwhile, the boy approached their table bringing a short menu for Volkan. Orchid asked him about her favorable night meal and he only nodded and left to bring it as it sounded to be the easiest for him. “Do people of this port expect arrival of the savior? I wonder if this place is going to get crowded when they find out…” She whispered while no one was near their table. The boy returned soon with milk and bread which wasn’t as fresh as Orchid expected but she only thanked him without caring much about the food, then he asked Volkan if they had decided their dishes.

  • At the Drydock Inn, the Savior, Yseult and Orchid had rented a suite for the night while the men occupied the room across the hall. It was a beautiful petite room with single beds and a fairly large window most likely accentuating the view which framed the lovely sunset horizon with sky and sea united in a picturesque state. Spiritua thought it was lovely to witness after their ordeal. She had spent so much time at the Holy Temple that even the beautiful sunsets were commonplace. Spending time elsewhere was always a great pleasure for her because it felt as if everything was new. She finished deposing her belongings and made her way downstairs with Priestess Orchid for dinner, where they found Volkan already waiting for his.

    " That sounds lovely!"
she replied to Orchid. " Perhaps we should get a basket for our table. " she suggested. Aside from the three the others had yet to join. " I myself would love to try recommendations of any kind. " she explained while perusing the menu. " Have you ordered any spirituous liquors for us Mr. Bey? " the Savior inquired. While alcohol consumption was not a forbidden practice in the Church nor to the Savior, she never developed a taste for it. Even when drinking with dignitaries or other members of the Church, she kept her glass small or half full. She hoped by asking the question outright that she would not give off the impression of dislike towards alcohol.

" Well, you guys are stewards and attendants, not heralds. " she remarked slightly jokingly. " While the Saviors journey is celebrated and well known, I certainly do not expect grand festivals and welcomings the likes of what we had in Tyrus at every single town we come into. " she said while looking at both of them. " Perhaps we shall keep it quieter tonight, we already had a lot of excitement right? "

Yseult DuBoisLocation: The Drydock Inn, San Ska Rae Archipelago Date: Eausen 1st, 997 CYAD Time: Nightfall
Companions: Everybody! Mood: Happy Goal: Replace her damaged Cassock after a good night's sleep.

Yseult frowned at the bloodstains marring her beautiful blue garment, the garish splotches reminding her again how defenceless she'd been. The saviour and Orchid had already gone down to eat, but Yseult had lingered, not wanting to wear blood-and-mud-spattered clothing to the dinner table ... but it's not like she had anything else to wear. She was so concerned with the stains that the beauty of the rustic little room were entirely lost on her. She heaved a disgruntled sigh as she realised her undergarment, too, would be stained and ripped.

Accepting her defeat, Yseult slipped out of the room with haste and flew down the stairs, pausing at the bottom to adjust herself, attempting to keep her arm over the mark until she sat. Volkan was still pushing in chairs at the time, and Yseult slid into a spot near the saviour. She tried to push a "thank you" from her moving lips as he scooted the seat in behind her, but nothing came out. A jerky nod was all she could offer before he was off again to seat himself. Yseult just tried to hide her face in a cup of water. The question of Marc's absence hung in the air unanswered. Perhaps he'd retired to his bed after the day's narrowly averted disaster.

Orchid was right, their arrival here had been rather modest, and it seemed no one was making any fuss about their arrival. Perhaps this was on purpose, another safety measure conceived by minds more tactical than her own. The saviour elaborated, but it still seemed hard to believe that no single soul had approached them with well-wishes. Yseult cast a momentary glance around the inn, the sitting room about half-full of smiling old couples, groups of young men drinking off their wearying day, merchants busily discussing the days take, even a few like-minded travellers.

Yseult nodded subconsciously at the saviour, emphatically in favour of a quiet evening, maybe even an early night. Peering to the door, Yseult chewed at her lip, it was probably too late to replace or repair her cassock. She would have to strike out early the next morning and see what the little town had to offer.

"Excitement indeed, I for one would appreciate nothing more than a hot meal, a good night's rest, and an easy road tomorrow." Her accent carried over the din of the dining room.

Her mouth began to water as the serving boy returned with a heaping basket of bread. It didn't look the freshest, but it certainly looked appetizing. She had sampled a few dishes local to San Ska Rae since arriving for her training, but the names of most still escaped her. Peering over at the menu that had been given to Volkan, nothing looked very familiar ... Fattoush, Makdous ... then a word jumped out at her. Mujaddara. She'd had it at the temple, a kind of rice dish with sauteed unions on top. Waiting patiently for her turn to order, she gingerly pointed the selection out to the boy, still convinced she was butchering the pronunciation of local words.

As the group settled into eating, Yseult again peered around, savouring each mouthful of rice and lentil. Pausing, she stirred absentmindedly at her food.

"Will ... will we have a chance to stop by the market tomorrow? I mean ... I'm not sure what this town has to offer, but I uh ..." Her voice faltered a little as she reflected on the day.

"today's misadventure has shown me that I might be under-prepared for the road ahead, and at very least I have a few things that need replacing."

Gareth had opted to take a leisurely stroll instead of heading straight to dinner. The peaceful evening atmosphere was perfect for relaxing. Overall, he was feeling pretty good. They had successfully defended Spiritua from danger and were well on their way to the first temple. Things seemed to be going well. Another thing he felt great about was knowing their Savior's true name. The fact that she had revealed it was a good sign that she had begun to truly trust them as companions. Such trust did wonders for Gareth's initial worries about his performance on the pilgrimage. He could only hope that things would keep going in his favor for the remainder of the journey.

On his aimless stroll, Gareth happened to pass by the docks and his keen eyes couldn't help but spit a familiar figure. Curious, Gareth approached the figure and surely enough, it was Marc. The man was fishing it seemed.

'Good evening, Marc! How goes the fishing?" Gareth's asked curiously while moving to stand beside the tall man. He looked out to the horizon and couldn't help but admire the beauty of it for a moment.

  • " I understand your feelings Ms. Dubois. However tomorrow there will not be much of a road, cause we're going to take a ferry to Dakara! "
she mentioned with a slight humorous remark. The Savior of course agreed with the young woman's words, but she did not want them to have their thoughts remain too much on today's events, but rather encouraged considering what lay ahead. The waiter came by with the wine and some bread, and had also placed some sort of oily dipping sauce for the bread. The Savior broke off a piece of bread and passed the basket to the next person. Taking a small piece she dipped it into the mixture and took a bite. Her face began to smile as the obvious blush of her cheeks showed how delighted the taste of the sauce was.

" My goodness, this is absolutely fantastic, so flavorful! "
Yseult asked about going to the market in the morning. " I'm not too sure when the market opens, but it should be fairly early. Umm... you know, we should check the ferry times to Dakara. But if we can squeeze a visit to the market that would be great. " She looked around half expecting the rest of the group to show up. " It's too bad about Mr. Rondel and Mr. Alber, their missing some good food. " she said breaking off another piece.

Marc Rondel
Southern Port
Eusten 1st, evening.

The sudden introduction of a voice shook Marc out of his thoughts. "Eh? Ah its you." he looked towards the man desperately trying to remember his name. Gary? Gearth? Doesn't matter. "Fishing is going well enough, not much biting out here, but the view with worth it well enough." the man turned back to the sunset before him, kicking the waters below his feet softly, enjoying the warm waters. Were it a friend, he'd have more to say, but in truth he didn't know this guy at all, save for some words about his job that he, in truth, didn't really catch.

Not that he didn't like the guy, just never really... Had any real words beyond a hello and minor military esque drills and orders from himself. Hell, he didn't know anybody here, some introduction, sitting out here and fishing as they sat inside. But then again, THEY didn't get to see this scene, this sunset.

So, there was that.

Unless they had a good view out a window.

he froze for a moment and began reeling in suddenly, pulling on the pole and spinning the reel he kept moving the pole from left to right depending on the strain and where the fish pulled. Keeping it up, he pulled up a nice looking flat fish, slightly larger than a palm the fish was one of those weird ones with only eyes on one side, lying upon the sandy bottom to hide from predators... Guess it didn't catch the memo of not eatting hooks.

Marc grasped the flapping about fish and removed the hook, seeing the bait still there, mostly, he looked to the small fish in his hand. "Common on the docks really, they feed on whatever falls off.. Shoulda guessed I'd grab one of these first." he sighed and was about to tossed the fish into the water. "To bony to eat, or at least in a manner that's actually satisfying to the palate." he paused before tossing it, catching a glimpse out of the corner of his eye. A black slightly shaggy looking cat, creeping up towards him.

Smirking, he smacked the fish on the dock, killing, or maybe knocking the fight out of it, before he tossed the fish the cat's way, to which the feline snatched it up and left with it's prize, making it's way off the dock before beginning to chew on the fish.

Tossing the line back into the water he sighed. "Gonna be abit of a time these next few months. best we soak in what sunsets we can... Maybe grab the others to come see it."

To tell the truth, Gareth also felt a bit awkward in this situation. He was beginning to fabricate the idea that he had interrupted Marc's peace by approaching him. Fortunately, he managed to push those insecure thoughts aside when Marc spoke of the results of his labor. He couldn't help but agree that the view was rather breathtaking.

"I see. Maybe it's not the results, but rather the experience that really matters in the end. At least, that's what I think." Gareth said. Once again getting lost in the sunset. Come to think of it, when was the last time he had seen something this majestic?

"You know, I can't remember the last time I really stopped to appreciate the sunset. I was always busy helping out my mother at the clinic or studying indoors. I have to say...I can't help but feel that I've really missed out." Gareth explained, not really sure why he had decided to bore Marc with something so trivial.

"It's not just sunsets either. I fear that I've given up many important things by choosing to devote myself almost solely to education. I presume that it must be the opposite for you. I can only imagine the countless hardships you've overcome to get this far and I have no doubt that you'll be the one we can depend on if things go awry." Gareth admitted, beginning to recall his initial doubts about his usefulness on this journey. What would happen if they were thrown into a situation where Book-smarts were useless? Would he end up becoming a liability rather than an asset? He couldn't help but feel like he was the weakest link in their party.

Of course, that didn't mean Gareth was about to let himself wallow in self pity. He had no intention of dragging down his companions and possibly his future friends.

"Yes, a bottom feeder. It's rather interesting how they get along in life. Satisfied with so little." Gareth commented on Marc's latest catch. When Marc gave the cat the fish, Gareth couldn't help but get a big grin on his face.

"A gentle giant, eh? What a pleasant surprise!" Gareth teased before chuckling. It seemed that he was freed from his negative train of thought by Marc's adorable gesture. He then settled back into watching Marc fish. The silence seemed a bit more comfortable this time around.

"Hoy now, don't go about talking about yourself that way." he wove a hand in the air, a smile still present on his face even now. "In this world we got out place, we do what we can with it. if you think you'll be useless in a situation, think more what you can do with what you got instead. Say we were... In a library or something, searching for something specific, while I don't know a lick about searching books and such, but I can help in other ways. Just like how the savior does her job, we do ours, and we're all equally important. Or so I say atleast." he cracked his neck, unsure if he got all he wanted to say out right.

"The moment you start thinking and acting like your useless, that's when you are. Giving up, that's when you really.. Uhh.. Screw up." he scrunched up his face. "Like, I ain't the greatest with my words, but that doesn't mean I should shut up and let others talk for me. Look at that bottom feeder, sure, the fish eats whatever it finds on the ground... And is currently being eaten by a hungry cat. But do you see anything littering the sand? I don't, and I bet you it was proud of it. Because thats what it was meant to do, just like us, we do what we gotta do."

He glanced back at the fish again. "Just don't be biting any fisherman's line." he chuckled, and turned back to his fishing pole.

"We all want something more though, can't fault yea with that. Just know yea can't do everything in life, so remember who you are, remember what you can do and how you can help. it's not a matter if you can or can't, even giving somebody a leg up can save the day if your heads on straight." he paused for a minute and sighed.

"Damn, shoulda been a preacher with all this word spewin'. It's gotten me hungry as sin." he scratched his neck, wondering if he should head inside and grab some grub.

The enjoyed their quiet dinner together while some of them participated in a ritual male bonding activity of fishing. They gathered together once more before they each went to bed, the males in their room and the gals in the other. As they each fell asleep, the experience of the first day of travel was ingrained into their memory and lit up the imagination of their dreams and perhaps a little bit of that imagination would lead into thoughts about what lay ahead. The lights of the town dimmed one by one until the buildings and surroundings vanished into the horizon.

The following morning appeared pleasant in terms of weather, however the clear skies gave away a danger that rapidly approached the shores. Sirens around the port town went off that signaled the arrival of pirates! On the horizon, 5 Dakara Class Destroyers lay siege to the port, three by sea and two by sky. They were still at a far enough distance that their cannons would not hit the edifices, however the rowdy brigands shot into the air to hit the waters nearby, in an obvious attempt to strike fear into the inhabitants.

Situation: Waiting for pirate attack in Drydock Inn

“Thanks for the fine meal and nice place to rest.” Orchid prayed in whispers before leaving the table and following the other two girls to their room. The first thing she did was taking a simple grey peasants’ dress out of her small package and go to the bathroom. About a quarter later, she was out wearing the gray dress and went the the window to hang her washed white dress from the edge to dry till morning. From there, the sea could clearly be seen with the silver reflection of moon dragged on it. With a smile the maiden left the window and cool night breeze and went to bed to fall in a deep sleep.

After waking up next morning, Orchid couldn’t remember any of dreams she had seen during night as if she hadn’t dreamed at all. Stretching her body out, she went to her white dress hanging out from the window to change to her formal outfit then placed the grey dress back into her bag. Inhaling smell of the sea joyfully, she sat on the edge of the window to watch the wonderful sunrise. As the sky got brighter and darkness was broken to shades of scarlet, orange, yellow and blue, she saw small spots appearing in sky and on the sea. At first she thought that they might be birds but soon they grew large enough for her to recognize them as ships and aircraft. Suddenly the siren sang and alarmed the town of pirate attack. Having her every hair perked up, Orchid ran to Spiritua nervously. “Milady… sirens… pirates are coming this way. We must leave this town immediately…” She said but suddenly gasped as sound of canon balls falling into close waters startled her.
