Egotistical, Oliver seems to think he is the best thing since sliced bread. He holds himself proudly and believes that anything he does is the best way to do it. Stubborn to a fault, Oliver refuses to budge once he has made up his mind. However, he has gotten used to being the second child and therefore the one in the back of the spotlight and has no idea how to follow in the steps of his father. He is, on a personal level, much more inclined to bend over backwards for someone or something he feels passionately about. His brother's sudden death has left him with self-esteem issues, as he has found himself under extreme scrutiny that he has never had to face before. Oliver's struggles to live up to the sudden expectations thrown on him have made him ignore them completely, instead throwing himself into what he knows best; being a people pleaser at parties and in bed.

Emily Spadding, 54, the mother and the CEO of a large bank. She has spent her entire life moving up the ladder and proving to others that she is as worthy of her position as any man. Unfortunately, Emily has a bit of a stubborn streak in herself as well, too. Her one-track mind only seems able to latch onto one goal. As a result, she has poured all of her energy and effort into making the company the best of the best, shrinking some responsibilities as a mother and wife. After Jefferson's death, Emily shrank even more into her work, intent on making the company stable and easy for Oliver to handle. She is the divorced wife of Kevin Spadding.
Kevin Spadding, 56, the father. A retired business owner, Kevin is an extroverted and boisterous man. He enjoys parties and entertaining others. Kevin is a rather emotionally dependent person and needs affection from others to live. When Emily's cold-shoulder grew even colder after Jefferson's death, Kevin was forced to reevaluate their relationship and later divorced her. He was the main source of emotional support for Oliver and his older brother, Jefferson.
Jefferson Spadding, died at age 26, the brother. Died in a car crash in New York City. A drunk driver crashed into his car and killed him. Jefferson had been the "good child", always on top of his studies and somehow balancing both his aloofness towards others and his affection for those he was close to. He was Oliver's biggest hero and support in a way, defending Oliver in high school and beyond when it came to things such as his sexuality. His death has shattered his family, resulting in Oliver's habit of shrugging responsibilities, serving as the tipping point for his parent's divorce, and the general silence that seems to have fallen over everyone.
