The Royal Nightingales. Incredibly elite, highly trained, and skilled in what they do. Joining the ranks of the Nightingales is easily the greatest honor a dedicated fighter could attain. It is the Special Ops of the Royal Army. There are many many paths to walk. Will you stick to the art of valiance, chivalry, and headstrong courage, or do you prefer to unlock the secrets of the shadows? Do you want to charge in head-first, or do you prefer the delicate art of waiting for that perfect strike from afar? More Armor to become an impenetrable mobile fortress, or none to become as quick as the wind? Do you want to push your brain to its limits by learning to manipulate the natural phenomena, or do you do your best in pushing yourself to your physical limits?

  • Magician- "The world will conform to my word and my will."
  • Fighter- "Walking with one's own mortality will let you kill the being known as limitation."
  • Ranger- "Lie in wait. One shot, one kill."
  • Rogue- "In the shadows I walk, from the shadows I strike."
  • Engineer- "We used our mind to harness magic. Time for what we create to harness magic as well."
  • Scout- "I know you better than you know yourself!"
  • Tamer- "That's a good boy...........now SIC HIM!"
  • Medic- "Down, eh? Well, you're not out just yet."

From here, the paths expand greatly. Ninjas, Eldritch Knights, Scholars, Snipers, Paladins, Magitech Engineers, etc. The paths are endless. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. The world is a hard place and you're walking down a harsh road. Forget everything you've read in the legends, which really only highlight their greatest exploits. The day to day life is grueling, full of training, briefs, and lesser dangers. One must always be patient and wait for their moment to shine. Only then are legends made. One can't go to school and learn how to be a civilized fighter for society, only how to regurgitate the doctrine. Trying to go out and be great with no training, however and you'll just end up a lowly merc who slays slime for a few bronze coins. You want to be greater than that. You want to be a Nightingale and become legendary

The King of Ishrion has issued a proclamation to expand training efforts to supercharge recruit training, available to anyone who is at least a teen. You have passed the basic tests and are now in a trainee's guild, shadowing and training under the greats in the kingdom. You will run operations for the king, do your own side work, learn the ins and outs of what it means to be part of the Nightingales, both on and off the battlefield. Chivalry, peace-talking, effective fighting tactics, leadership, the meaning of defeat and the power of mercy. Unlike the classes, you are NOT placed in groups that are specific to your skillset. Your team will consist of people from all paths who want to end up at the same place

All of your tests, those grueling moments and times in all types of terrain and survival situations, will all culminate in one grand undertaking with your Trainee Guild: Defeat, Slay, or Tame a Dragon. That is the one and only prerequisite to becoming part of the Nightingales. After this, you can truly call yourself one of the best .

Ishrion
Ayrith
Temperature: 65 Degrees
Weather: Overcast
Season: Late Summer (Early September)
Time of Day: Mid-Morning (about 10)

Ayrith was a fairly big town, on the verge of being called a city. It is a popular city, well known for the history it has there. Ayrith has a progressing economy, which is mainly supported by trade, cooking and hunting, but their biggest strengths are strong magicians and rare crop farming. The climate these skies brought were of great importance, but they were also influential when it came to architectural designs as the vast majority of buildings were designed to take full advantage of the climate, as more daring elements can be created when you don't have to worry about strong winds.
In Ayrith lies the National History Museum. More popular there though is one of the operating centers of one of the famous guilds, the Nightingales. In a recent proclamation, King Richard issued a proclamation for the Royal Guilds to start training recruits to maybe incorporate them into their guilds. Standards are set on their own. Training set on their own. Locations set on their own. Missions only lightly restricted. Waivers must be signed for these recruits.

Despite the grim notion one could make, the atmosphere was light. The overcast kept the temperature relatively cool. The birds chirped happily and people bustled around to their jobs. Morning dew glistened on the grass. The town was, for the most part, ready for the afternoon rush hour, especially the taverns, cafes, bistros, and restaurants. The focus, however, is nearer to the town limits surrounded lightly by vegetation and directly beside a creek that could go into a full blown moat if someone wanted to actually dig it. The building was a famous site and was donned by the famous logo. This was the Nightingale Guild Hall, a small fortified position

Chapter 1: Ari Waesmor- The Shadow Ranger

campillolq_by_hedrick_cs-da2fc11.jpg

Outside the guild were members doing their own thing, either by themselves, with other members, or with their families. The new recruits were to find this place, which wasn't hard to find. Ayrith residents loved this place, so they wouldn't hesitate to point it all out. If they lived here, it wouldn't be an issue. The recruits should be all wide-eyed with wonder and anticipation. They all wanted to join the incredibly prestigious guild and now they were given the opportunity. Today was the day to meet their teacher and immediately begin training. From what they all heard, their teacher was a foreigner, only coming into Ishrion within the month and joining the Nightingale Guild. Would he be a good teacher? A nice one? A hardass? A fun one? A respectable one? Someone worth sticking with? Insufferable? Who knew. All that's known now was that he was a Nightingale in charge of the Trainee's Guild.

One wouldn't want to be late to the training. You only get one chance to make a first impression, especially if one would be as busy as they would be in a famous guild.

That's a lot of windows. Not sure why that was the first thing that went through his head, but there it was. This building had a lot of windows. Which made sense, it was a big tower. Even among the other buildings this place was huge, and a regular house dwarfed the farmhouse back home. Most buildings in Ishrion were closer to the barn, but rather than just being huge places to store the cattle they were fully furnished homes and shops. Even the general store, the biggest building in the village, paled in comparison. They were all grand, but the tower itself looked more like something out of a fairy tale. It was bigger than any castle he had ever dreamed of, and taller than any tree he had seen. He half-expected the window near the top to burst open, revealing a beautiful princess staring down at him or a long dragon crawling around the thing. He could imagine giants stacking the great stones that made up the outside, forced to precariously climb up the side as dwarves carved the windows and ledges that decorated the outside. In the end, two people would have to lean out of the window to either side to hang the sword-marked banner that marked it for the Nightingales. The heavy cloth was so huge it barely fluttered in the wind. It was a wonder if anyone was ever scared it might fall down one day and crush someone.

And where was Leon in all of this? The same clueless farmer boy he always was; staring up at the tower with his mouth hanging open like a cow with gas. It was pretty easy to pick him out of the crowd around the tower. His messy brown hair and dirt-stained clothes stood out from the shining armor and decorated cloths of most guild members like a smudge on a mirror. He was tall for his age, with a sinewy body from working the land. A rusty longsword hung from his belt without a sheath to call home. His one other possession was a mandolin he had brought with him, but without a bag or belt to put it in Leon had to hold it in his arms. Olive-green eyes danced across the tower in parts wonder, excitement, and no small amount of anxiety.

Well no point in staring at it forever; he'd get used to it soon enough. Leon shook his head and looked around. He still had to meet with his teacher and learn where to even begin with this place. Which reminded him; did they even say where they were supposed to meet? Leon felt like they didn't, but this was also the guy who nearly failed one of the entrance tests simply because he misheard the directions and went the wrong way. "So... anyone know where we're supposed to be going?" He asked as he turned to his fellow recruits for help. For once, he hoped he had just missed something again.

Tenebrous Elesham:
Mage Trainee

Coming from a small village, the beauty and size of Ayrith was a bit overwhelming for, Tenebrous. He had traveled to places outside of the village before, but nowhere he’d been compared to the bustling city. To help him build his courage, Tenebrous had made the journey to, Ayrith alone. It didn’t take more than two days and he left home early enough to be able to have a few days to relax before the. Guild opened it’s doors to the recruits. He had spent the past three days sight seeing and familiarizing himself with the place that was likely to become his new home. The weather here had so far proven to be his favorite part; the manydiverse personalities within the city was a close second though. The people back at home were predictable at this point and none of them were intelligent enough to of any real interest. Ayrith house’s a melting pot of minds though and tourists helped to keep things fresh. All his time hadn’t been spent admiring buildings or messing with the residents; Tenebrous had been to the museum to brush up on his knowledge, he’d done some shopping to better fit in with the inhabitants, and he devoted time to reading his mother’s precious grimoire.

The days seemed to fly by; come and gone with the groups of tourists bound for other destinations. Now he had to meet with his future and Tenebrous was more than ready. His three days of freedom allowed him a chance to stop by the tower and check it out while he wasn’t a recruit. Even though this wasn’t his first time seeing it, the structure still amazed him. The shape and the height wouldn’t have been impossible to achieve back in his villlage. The tower seemed like an impenetrable fortress and the group’s of recruits couldn’t possibly hope to even dent or scratch the mighty walls. Among the group trainees, Tenebrous appeared too be a native of, Ayrith. Dressed in light clothes suited for its climate and colors he never thought he would wear; a pair of soft-pink pants complemented by the green of his tunic. Around his waist a brown belt helped to established the shape of his body while his grimoire dangled from it; wrapped in leather to protect it.

“It’s probably best to stay where the instructor will have an easy time noticing us as well as retrieving us.” He kept his eyes forward, head held high, and posture close to perfect.three large, long braids adorned his head and ended at his shoulders. If the instructor had been watching all along,, Tenebrous wanted them to see a focused and ready recruit. Although he too did have some questions and had passed his patience limit a while ago. But that was on him for showing up early.

Gabrielle Kraus
Engineer Trainee
Location: Ayrith, Ishrion

This was it. She was finally arriving at Ayrith.

Gabrielle poked her head out of the horse-drawn wagon, warm summer air catching her curly brown locks and blowing it back. She observed her new surroundings with excitement: Tall, tudor-styled buildings loomed above her on either side of the wagon, people and horses alike hustled down the busy roads, and children played together in the all the spaces between. The town was so much greener compared to hers, with a variety of lush grasses and far-reaching trees instead of the occasional desert shrub. It was almost overwhelming, how different everything looked. She couldn't wait to find out what the Nightingale Hall was like.

Once the wagon stopped, Gabrielle shouted a quick thanks to the coachman before taking off. She'd hoped that one of the townsfolk would be kind enough to direct her to where she needed to go, and was relieved to find out they were more than happy to help. One of the shopkeepers told her to keep heading down the path outside of town until she reached a narrow creek. The chestnut-haired girl was so full of excitement that she nearly ran the whole way, stopping only a few yards into the lightly populated forest to catch her breath. Once Gabrielle made it to the creek, she caught sight of the grand building before her.

"Helga's left ear..." she murmured reverently.

In all her years of living, Gabrielle had never seen a building this large before. Am I gonna live here? She could scarcely believe her eyes. As she approached the clearing, still gazing up at the illustrious hall, two other recruits were situated near the front of its entrance. Gabrielle overheard them talking and, judging by their appearances, she assumed that they must be new as well. It would be polite to introduce herself, wouldn't it?

She trod over to them and waved when she was in their line of sight. "Hey! You two are new, aren't you?" Gabrielle rested a hand on her hip, bringing the other to point a thumb at herself. "I"m Gabrielle. Gabrielle Kraus."

Her posture was rather relaxed, not used to being in a military setting where warriors were being trained. She wasn't sure what to expect out of the program. The entrance test was challenging, but she found the new experience to be an overall fun one. The only other notion she had about the course was that they'd be guided by a skilled trainer. Gabrielle had never known anyone from the Nightingale ranks, so she wondered what they'd be like.

"Think the trainer'll be here anytime soon?"

Teonor Zumrel
~A half-elven medic trainee~
large.jpg
.
A stray dew drop landed on his eyelid, slowly drawing him away from his unconsciousness. Through his half-asleep mind, he gazed at the dazzling canopy above him, wondering why he fell asleep in a flourishing tree. His violet eyes blinked once before opening fully, somewhat trying to remember where he was. Then, his memories came flooding back.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Teonor had arrived in Ayrith approximately five days ago, on his father's horse. He bid warm farewells to his lone parent, and watched him ride off back to Mailune, which would take around a week to get back to. He had read about Ayrith in the few books present in his village's bookstore, but the city's magnificence simply did not show through simple picture books. The fantastical structures that grew from the ground into mismatched shapes and sizes, was a sight to behold. Teonor was fascinated and filled with curiousity, at a new location that was not his small village. You couldn't really tell by looking at his expression, because of his calm demeanor and appearance, but that doesn't mean you couldn't see his eyes light up visibly at the new culture. After making his way around some of the more prominent shops in town, and browsing the unique wares found there, he inevitably went to view the Guild Hall that would soon become extremely prominent in his life.

It was everything he had imagined and more. The fortified stone walls, the menacing spikes and the pure stability of the structure was magnificent. He examined the facility for a good hour that day, but that was five days ago. Now, he simply passes by the building with a fleeting sense of excitement mixed with nervousness.

Over the past few days he had stayed at a relatively cheap inn, with decent food and soft beds to sleep in. Luckily, he also got a special 5-days-for-4 deal, which saved him some gold to be spent on other future supplies. But this morning, he had awoken too early. With a hearty ready-made breakfast to start the day, and knowing the trials to come, he had resolved to wait outside the Guild Hall for the new recruits to be called in. One thing led to another and somehow Teonor had fallen asleep in a tree. It wasn't that surprising to be honest, since he's always been a bit of a sleepyhead.

Noticing some recruits grouping together, he quietly hopped down from the low tree to join them. Afterall, a medic is pretty useless without others to heal. He didn't hear much of their conversation, only really that the confident-looking girl was named Gabrielle. "Hey there, are you guys new recruits as well?" He asked as a bit of an introductory question. He knew the answer, since it was pretty obvious, but it's always good to be certain. "I'm Teonor, it's nice to meet you all." He nodded towards each of the others. To be honest, Teo didn't have much experience socializing with different people, due to his isolated and quiet village. It's not like he's not confident in himself, just that perhaps the others may find him a bit strange, which was a fleeting concern that passed through his mind. Nonetheless, he remained amicable with a small polite smile on his face. He noticed the others were just as newbie-looking as he was, but all definitely ready to become a new recruit.

There was a tall boy, taller than himself actually, with messy dirt-stained hair and clothing, that caught Teonor's eye, particularly due to the worn longsword hanging from his waist. He also noticed he was carrying a unique instrument he had never seen before. After staring at it for a few long seconds, he decided to inquire about it politely. "What kind of instrument is that, if you don't mind me asking?" He asked, gesturing towards the well-polished instrument which was unlike any he had ever seen before in books.

Alison Barclay
Nightingale Guild Hall

A glowing owl landed nearby. "Here, master." It said happily. "Are you proud?"
"Of course I am, Autumn. Thank you for your assistance." A girl walked up, eyes as blue as the owl glowed. Alison had an easy time finding the place. Luckily for her, she knew how to read maps and had the owl to confirm her hunches.
She saw the ones standing there and knew they had to be fellow recruits. "Hello all," she said with a small bow. "I take it you're all the new recruits. I am Alison Barclay, 17 years. I guess we're gonna be together for the duration of this training."

Alison sported aristocrat clothing, the tips of her hair colored the same as the owl and her eyes. "I want to be a scholar, but I must start from a scout. I have to learn how to fight." she said with a sigh. She knew nothing about the art of combat, but that was exactly what she was getting into. The intricacies of combat, from one v one to full scale war.

"You must all be the new trainees," a woman approached them, loaded up with weaponry. The intimidation factor from her looks was dissolved by her not so hostile voice. She was a centaur and, like most centaur warriors, stood proud. She looked like a queen, always ready to fight. She looked at them with a smile, a reflective one as if she were looking back on her trainee days as well. The woman lifted up her visor.

"Your trainer will be Sir Ari Waesmor, a strong fighter. I've yet to defeat him in battle, which is why I'm heading out for a 10 mile run in full kit." By full kit, she was armored on both human and horse body, holding a sword and shield. "Sir Waesmor is in the back."

As if on queue, which it was, a large explosion racked the ground they stood on with smoke coming from behind the fort. A man came flying. He hit a tree then busted through it. A MASSIVE beast charged forward at the man. He counter-charged and slammed his shield at the charging beast, trying to keep from being pushed back. A girl ran up and jumped on the beast's head and turned a flip. Armed with a bow, she notched it. "Stillpiercer....." A small tornado whipped up at the tip of the arrow. She fired the bow and it was almost instaneous, like a beam of light, right through the man's head.

The fort glowed white and unleashed a pulse of White Magic. The man who was shot, who long crumbled up with a hole through his forehead, stood up. He was glowing white and his wound was healing. The man sat down with a gruff huff, contemplating his life after such a defeat. "Bah! In what fresh hell did you learn to do this shit."

The woman looked at him. "Years of work and dealing with death." she said without even a smile. She was a neko, sporting cat's ears and a cat's tail. Her voice was confident, like everyone else who seemed to be a member of the Nightingales. Despite the battle condition and dealing with a swordsman, she didn't wear any armor. She was armed with naught but a bow. If he had closed the gap, one could expect that she'd have been carved up with ease. However, that giant basilisk seemed to have different plans. It looked like a raptor, with tough scales covering its exterior. The underbelly was white, indicating a traditional weak point. Its eyes glowed green. It ran over to the neko, who started to pet it. The basilisk sat down.

Juste Wolfwood
Ranger Trainee

Location: Ayrith, Ishrion - Outside of the Guildhall.
The day had begun, and J had only acquired the tiniest amount of sleep, Having set up a small camp outside of the town, all he needed to do was walk his way to the Guildhall. His Mentor directed him here, to be able to train and become a better man. A stronger warrior. But his purpose of becoming stronger was unknown to even him. Always having trailed behind his mentor, as a way of realizing his inability of such incredible power. Magic, something he couldn't grasp, he thought himself inferior to those that had the affinity of magic on their side. But he trusted in the word of his mentor, deciding to join the Nightingales. Arriving on the scene, he was quiet as can be. Not really sticking close to the group that had formed of the other recruits, he seemed shy, actually. He felt his inability to speak properly would make them turn away from him. So he thought staying quiet and minding his own business was the best route to take..

The Centaur-woman clad in armor began to speak, their instructor was Sir Waesmor. He would take note of this, and when the fort seemed to glow a mysterious white color, all he could think of was his throat. Lightly itching at the deep scar across his throat, he remembered the day his mentor healed him with that very same light. Old memories, of a boy long since gone. He lost his memories upon being revived. Only remembering fire, death and blood. He didn't think on it much. He tightened the strap that held his large greatbow over his back. He also checked his quiver, full of home-made special arrows specifically designed to be shot with a greatbow. Returning his attention to the Centaur-woman, he paid close attention to any orders needed. He was excited, actually. Such strong leaders, he couldn't wait to learn whatever he could from them. He was eager to improve himself.. To prove he could be something in this world.

Today was the day, to make something of himself...

Tenebrous Elesham:
Despite the arrival of new people and new topics of discussion, Tenebrous remained silent. He hadn’t come to this place too converse with strangers and become friends. While the other spoke, his eyes continued to survey their surroundings. The appearance of the centaur woman did surprise him as they were a rare sight in his village and even rarer to see up close. Her form and tone revealed much about her; she was a seasoned warrior, strong, and yet she did not seem very uptight or strict. Tenebrous didn’t expect the guild to be so inclusive, but he knew now to expect the unexpected.

The unexpected came rather soon as the ground trembled with the sound of an explosion. What followed broke, Tenebrous’ calm facade and he stepped back. A creature that’s he’d only seen in books, a man on the verge of defeat, and yet another non-human member. The scene’s end with the man’s death intrigued the trainee; what exactly had just happened? The answer came when the tower itself illuminated the surrounding area with a white light. “Healing magic.” His eyes went from the tower to the dead man. “Powerful healing magic.” Tenebrous stepped back into place held his hands behind his back. This was definitely the right place to be for an aspiring mage.

Gabrielle Kraus
Engineer Trainee
Location: Ayrith, Ishrion - Nightingale Guild Hall

Gabrielle regarded the blond boy and the charming girl with an amiable smile. "Nice 'ta meet you guys too! I'm glad all of us recruits are in the same place on the first day." She was already starting off on a good note, and her fellow trainees seemed to be nice enough. The chestnut-haired girl glanced over to the side at the brooding, black-haired guy who had yet to speak. She was a little peeved he hadn't even acknowledged the group, but to each their own, she guessed. He'll warm up to us eventually, she thought, refusing to let go of her optimistic stance.

"The name's Gabrielle, by the way," she said to Alison, observing her peculiar appearance, "you've got really pretty hair, y'know? Scholar seems like quite the noteworthy goal, too. I want to become an Engineer myself, but I'm not entirely certain what kind I'm gonna be." The whole sub-class thing was especially new to her. It seemed that would be something she'll have to figure out as she went along.

Looking around the Hall's courtyard, she could see many of the veteran soldiers as well as more fresh recruits. A centaur was approaching them from the center of the field, armed to the teeth and radiating with intimidation. Gabrielle had seen centaurs before in her hometown, but none as powerful-looking as this. Her armor and weapons clearly reflected the sunlight with its metal sheen, and the girl could instantly recognize the quality of its craftsmanship. So this is what Nightingale ordnance is like. She listened on in awe.

After the centaur's short introduction of their trainer, Gabrielle felt the sudden explosion come from the trees and instinctively trained her gaze on the flying object that hurled through the air. That object was in fact a man, and he was being pursued by a gargantuan snake---no, it's a basilisk. She watched in anticipation as a woman sprang onto the beast before shooting an arrow directly at the man's head. "Helga's left ear." She whispered for the second time that day. It seemed there was magic in that shot. As the pulse of white light faded away, the warrior's injuries were healed. It must have been impressive, since even the silent, brooding recruit beside her showed some reaction.

A sudden realization struck her, and she brought her attention back to the man. Judging by what the woman just told us, then he must be...

"...our trainer." she finished out loud.

The journey was quote the interesting experience for the young elf. Having been raised on a farm his entire life the city of Ayrith seemed so larger then actually was. The wandering domestic animals was something that he had grown used to, but the mere sight of the abundant townsfolk had actually made him nervous. He wasn't used to seeing so many people at once. Some tended to their lovely gardens while others sold crops and accessories at their stalls. The sight of the heartwarming imagery was only complimented further by the sound of laughter of the passing children who seemed to be trying to catch a small rabbit. "Ah youth. Reminds me of when I used to play with my brothers. Though they always assumed I was cheating since the rabbits always came to me" he said chuckling to himself. "What about you dear friend? Did you enjoy playing with your siblings as well?" He said looking over to his shoulder where a small Blue Jay sat giving him an awkward look as it began gently pecking at his ear. "Hungry again? You sure are a greedy little thing. You know it's not healthy to eat so much bread given your nutritional system" he said taking out a small loaf of bread from his bag and held it towards his feathery companion. As the Blue Jay began to dig into the loaf a small smile overcame his face.

His attention was suddenly caught by the sudden stop of the horse carriage he had been riding. Assuming this was his drop off point he quickly removed himself from the carriage as his feathery companion remained on his shoulder. While the sight of the large building would leave most in awe Sebastian was a bit different from most. Being the minimalist he was such a building seemed overkill. "Oh my. I hope they don't make us clean that" he said jokingly giving his companion a little nudge by raising his shoulder a bit. "It also appears that those must be my fel-" Before Sebastian could finish his sentence a large explosion bellowed in the distance as a man and a beast appeared from thin air. Which to add an even crazy element to this already bizarre visual a woman had appeared and shot the man directly through the skull. "Huh. So this is where I'm going to die. You okay little guy? Little guy?" He said seeing his companion a good thirty feet away from his location with a adorably terrified face. As the man who was shot through the skull stood Sebastian was wary to start making his way over, but it seemed as if the man had almost instantly healed. Making his way over to the group as he gave a small wave towards them attempting to force a normal smile over his face but failing miserably. "Hello everyone. Lovely weather we're having right?" he said pretending to not to have seen the strange man being shot through the skull.

The neko woman turned to the trainees upon hearing one recognize it as healing magic. "Quite right. To be exact, it's Sanctified Holyfield. Upon death, it returns all within the field to how they were before they walked on. Detrimental in battle, but top of the line in training."

One of the girls said that the man was their trainer. She smiled. "Incorrect. We're done here, Misty." A magic circle appeared on the woman's chest and out flew a small Owl Griffin. The woman's appearance changed.........in that she was no longer a woman. Her hair turned black, tattoos appeared, clothing changed. The owl Griffin landed on the guy's shoulder, the size of a small kitten. The Griffin was blushing. "I love when we become one, master." If one looked at the features of the Griffin, the cat ears and tail of the neko before came from the Griffin and the hair color came from the Griffin's fur. "Stop making stuff weird, Misty." He said to the Griffin. His voice was distinctly male now. It was unknown how exactly his voice changed when put with Misty, but that neko voice was long gone.

He turned to the trainees. "I am actually Ari Waesmor, not the sack I just defeated. I'm still proving my metal here in Ishrion."

Alison looked in awe at the Griffin and the transformation. So what was he exactly? He had short swords, daggers, used a bow and had 2 familiar completely unrelated with each other and was close enough to somehow use them to improve his skill even more.

The centaur women glared at Ari. "Sir Waesmor, what lesson are you giving your trainees by being late on the first day?" Her voice was sharp. She was pretty strict about discipline.
Ari shrugged. "That legitimate things take precedence at times. I was engaged when they arrived. Let's battle again sometime, then get a drink Teresa. On me"
The centaur turned away suddenly, towards where she would be traveling. "Flirting? You're shameless, Waesmor. I'm off." She started running, going from 0-60 in a few seconds.

So this was their trainer? Someone who could turn into a woman at will? What benefit did he gain by becoming a woman in battle? Did that only apply to his Griffin, or does it extend to his basilisk? Did he have more familiars? So many questions and Alison was infinitely curious yet intimidated. Watching his fairly nonchalant demeanor yet defeat a hardened knight like Teresa and that guy with ease. She didn't know whether to approach him or stay her hand. This was what she was seeking alright, but she was feeling like she was getting into something insane at this point.

"As I just said, I am Ari Waesmor. This beauty that I keep on my shoulder is Misty. The lovely basilisk here is Lexi."
Misty lifted a paw to wave. "Nice ta meetcha'"
Lexi rose and approached them. She sniffed them. "Don't look at me.......Weak. All weak. Are you capable of becoming what master wants you to be?" Despite her sharp words, the words were a warning, especially the first sentence. Basilisks have a stone glare, just like Medusa. Look them in the eye and instant death.

"Yah, I'm less worried about being found and more about being in the right place." Leon said as he shifted his weight onto one leg. Has this boy seriously never seen an instrument like this before? Maybe he was foreign or something, but even a country abroad should have an instrument similar to this. "Leon, swordsman. And it's a mandolin. It's like a guitar, just a different shape. Er... rather... I'm not sure what the exact difference is actually." Leon admitted, plucking a few notes on the instrument. He began playing his own tune for a minute before quickly placing his hands over the strings to silence them for the horse-woman. Leon was barely listening to her; this woman had a body like a horse! He remembered a few stories about people like that. Sensors? Whatever they were called, Leon just watched in stunned silence as the ground shook and a man came flying in. However, when Leon saw the arrow pierce the man's skull, he dropped his instrument and grasped for his sword. It took him a few grabs to get it, but by the time he was pulling it out of his belt the man was already standing up.

That just left the beautiful cat woman and... whatever the hell that thing she was petting was. Some type of reptilian mount? Leon shuddered; he couldn't imagine sitting on something with scales. He had enough trouble with normal-sized snakes. He wasn't sure what 'sanitized' was supposed to mean, but it was clear that whoever she was she was powerful. And was also a him apparently. Disappointment was painted across Leon's face. Cute bird-thing though, and at least their trainer was skilled. Wait, did this mean the sensor woman was just a guy too? And then there was the fact that these monsters were talking now. The lizard was creepy on its own without talking, it didn't need to be rude too. He needed some time to take this all in. The whole exchange couldn't have been more than a minute, but it left Leon with a few hundred questions. However, he pushed them aside in favor of the one burning in his mind, "Leon." He repeated as he raised his hand, leaving his mandolin lying on the ground at his feet. "So if you're our trainer, you can show us how to turn into animal people too?" If that was the case, he really wanted to be a bird person. Or maybe a lion. Lions were cool.

Teonor nodded and smiled towards Alison and Gabrielle as they approached/talked respectively. It was nice being part of a group of kids around his age, since he never had that experience before. He turned towards Leon as he replied, and nodded in acknowledgement. A mandolin eh? Teonor swore he had heard of that before, but perhaps it had just slipped his mind. Afterall, his feelings were bubbling with mixed emotions at the moment. "I'm a medic." He responded quietly, just as a veteran centaur approached the group. "Ari Waesmor...?" His eyes widened at the name, due to it's influential impact. It was a indeed name of great legends. Just after Teo had heard the name, a massive explosion unlike any he had ever heard rung through his eardrums. Instinctively reaching for his daggers, for a reason he doesn't quite understand as he doesn't exactly know how to use them well, Teonor stared intensely as the great battle began, and ended. Confused at the sight, especially after he had watched the man with a hole straight through his head miraculously heal up, Teonor looked relatively speechless.

However, noticing a pale, black-haired boy calling in the distance, Teonor gave them a welcoming smile as they approached. "The weather is rather nice for a recruit's first day." He replied stoicly, somewhat trying to retain his calmness after that whole ordeal. The boy was also visibly shaken up by that strange false-death situation, but luckily an explanation was given by their trainer, who was somehow able to morph from a girl to a man. Teonor was curious, and wanted to question everything and everyone, even the centaur that dashed elsewhere, but he knew he needed to take it slow. There's only so much information you can absorb at once afterall. Firstly, he decided to keep polite, since he knew his questions could be answered with time. "It's great to see that we're going to be in the hands of such a capable trainer." He smiled towards Ari gratefully. He sincerely acknowledged his dexterity and control in battle, even more so his archery. Teonor knew he couldn't even hit a shot like that standing still. He truly felt that there was so much to learn here.

"I'm Teonor, a medic in training." Whilst introducing himself to their new trainer, he smiled towards Misty, and also in Lexi's general direction since he wasn't able to look her in the eyes. "I am weak, but I will train hard to ensure that I am not a burden to any team." He smiled widely, a determined glint in his violet eyes. He's a medic, but that doesn't mean he has to be useless during combat. He will train himself to ensure that doesn't happen.

Such a crazy thing happened within the span of minutes, the neko girl that had once been standing before them turned into a male now, whom as it seemed to have turned out, was Sir Waesmor! What incredible magic..J was surprised at such an ability of magic, it would probably be great for infiltration, being able to disguise ones self into someone or something else. He's heard of it before from his mentor, while reading books about magic in general on their travels. He never knew why his mentor wanted him to read up on magic despite being incapable of using it. Perhaps it was for a more tactical stand-point, if J ever came across an opponent with magic abilities.

The Centaur woman took off, after Sir Waesmor failed to flirt with her? Interesting, he though to himself. J did not speak again, when Misty spoke to them alongside greetings with Sir Waesmor and Lexi. But the question that echoed throughout his soul was the one that J had been after for so long. Weakness.. and the determination to become stronger, to become something of worth to Master Ari Waesmor. Doubt would not serve him as that would only do to pull him away from his desire, he stood there. In his mind, he wondered if he was truly able to become something.. Until the voice of his mentor echoed louder than Lexi's within his mind. "If you want to become stronger, then take up the mantle of the Nightingales. That is your only choice". With his mentor's voice encouraging him.. J regained determination into his burning heart. His eyes hardened with the willpower to keep going. He WOULD prove himself, he would become strong. For Sir Waesmor, for his team, and for the Nightingales.

J stood tall once more, no longer gripping the shoulder strap carrying his greatbow. He was ready, to take anything on. With magic or without he would prove himself to be strong, to be something in this world. He would become a nightingale.

There was so much magic here and some of it, Tenebrous couldn’t even identify. Their instructor wasn’t new here apparently and yet even he was capable of such great feats. The Basilisk; which he wasn’t foolish enough to gaze upon, the transformation, and the amount of skill we’re all proof of the man’s capabilities. Tenebrous listened to every word they spoke and remained focused on his future.

The only thing about this whole situation that worried him was the manner with which their trainer behaved. The centaur woman’s demeanor sassan for more suitable for the place and she inspired others. This man was skilled without a doubt, but he seemed too lack any respect for his role, their futures, or punctuality. That’s made him think things would be far tougher than he originally thought this man wasn’t clearly unpredictable and maybe even unorthodoxed in his training.

"If you want to turn into an animal person, you must learn to summon a familiar, then spend years bonding enough to actually go about doing such magic. Highly advanced."

Ari smirked. "Anyways, you're quite ready to begin. Fantastic. I'll let you guys know right now. Formality is too predictable." He chuckled a bit. "Predictability will get you all killed. I could go with Teresa's methods, but she can't defeat me yet. She's too heavily in the books, too indoctrinated in military fighting. All else being equal, predictability is a very bad disadvantage." Ari seemed to have a pretty nonchalant demeanor when it came to discussing death. It was like bringing up the sharpness of one's blade or the talks at Sunday dinner

"I don't drink King Richard's kool-aid." He drew his sword and hit the various fight stances with perfect refine and grace. It was obvious he learned Ishrion's fighting methods within the month he was here. "See, anyone can imitate what's in a book. That's why I'm not using the inspiring 'do as I do' methods that a lot of people here can use. What I want out of all of you is to use the old noggin and find your own path." He sat down and Misty curled up in his lap. Ari wasn't unpredictable for no reason. "Spiritual balance is essential to the way of the warrior. No matter the path you want to walk, finding your spiritual path happens with self purification through self-discipline. True nobility is being superior to your former self."

"Once you have mastered yourself, everything becomes moving meditation, the true sync of mind and body." He stood up then shrugged, back to his other demeanor of nonchalant. "None of you have any idea what that means until you have to apply it to real life scenarios. Lexi has assessed you all as weaklings, so we'll begin immediately unless you all have questions."

Leon put his hand down, "Ah... well, one step at a time then," Bonding with an animal didn't sound that hard, but the magic behind it did. Who knows, maybe he could do with Iris back home. He couldn't imagine what fusing with a goat would do though.

Most of the stuff coming out of the trainer's mouth was going over Leon's head, but he could imagine what it all meant. Follow your own path, don't put too much stock in books, and be unpredictable. He got all that, he just needed to learn how to fight. Or at least figure out what spiritual balance meant. What was that, just placing faith in a higher power? That being said, Lexi? The lizard did call them weak, so that must be her. Was this guy really listening to an overgrown lizard? "Hey, wait, how do you know that?" He frowned, looking between Ari and Teonar, "We might be trainees, but you haven't seen what we can do yet! We passed the tests and everything. That thing looked at us for like two seconds, so don't count us out before you can see what we can do!"

"That thing?" The basilisk got closer to him, growling. She was fairly offended at being called a thing. Ari told them her name. Lexi was a fairly proud individual and insolence was punishable by death. "I like my meat soft, human, and you're looking pretty soft," she said threateningly. Lexi would not hesitate to eat someone.

Ari stepped in front of Lexi. If one insults the beast, they insult the master. However, while Ari would normally tear into someone who insults his familiars, he decided to be a bit softer this time around. He put his hands on Lexi's nose and pet her. "This 'thing' has taken on endless demon armies, along with me and Misty. Sorry not sorry if I trust her word a hell of a lot more than yours. If she assesses you as weak, then you're weak. Besides, I'd assess you as weak as well. Otherwise, you wouldn't be standing in front of me looking to become a student. If you want my to get a little hands-on, I give you a 5 second grace period. With that, you'd survive for 5 seconds in battle with me."

He turned to the rest. "Listen up, you will be judged on 3 fronts: Craftiness, Teamwork, and Raw Power. These will be judged by myself, Misty, and Lexi respectively. The first exercise will be simple." He pointed to the fort. "You will race to the end of the woodlands, which will be indicated by a wooden fence. That's it. This will gauge your speed and run endurance." He turned back with a smile and a chuckle. They wanted to get started? Time to start training.

Formality is too predictable. Did he mean his way of speaking? Perhaps he'd have to fix that, even though it was just his natural way of speaking. Predictability is a very bad disadvantage. Teo could definitely understand that. If it's a skill that anyone can use just by reading the books, who wouldn't know of it? And potentially, have a counter for it? He felt he had learnt an important lesson, within minutes of being with his tutor. Find your own path. Personally, that was Teonor's goal since the beginning. He didn't just want to be the average medic that needs to be protected. He wants to be able to stand on his own two feet, even as a healer.

As Teonor heard a challenge being spilled from Leon, he instantly knew it was a bad idea. Trying to battle against Sir Waesmor, a legend that has ended wars, wasn't exactly a good idea. But he could tell that Leon didn't know that, so it wasn't his fault or anything. To be honest, if his trainer was someone he hadn't heard of, and had just ousted them as weak, Teonor probably would have been a tad irritated as well. If Ari decided to punish Leon based on his pure ignorance, Teonor wouldn't have been content with his methods. Re-assuringly, noticing Leon's confusion, Teonor patted him on the back, subtly telling him to back down. This wasn't a fight he'd stand a chance in, especially not now.

As soon as Sir Waesmor finished describing their first exercise, Teonor sprinted off. He knew he wasn't the fastest runner, but forests are his home turf. Luckily he had arrived here five days ago, so he roughly knew the layout of this woodland area. He weaved in and out of the bushes and grass, well, as well as he could anyway, without stumbling on sharp roots here and there. At some point, a branch had scratched his left cheek, but he was too concentrated on the race to notice. He wanted to see what he was capable of, when he tried his best.

Mage Trainee

Location: Town Center, Ayrith, Ishrion
A carriage had just rolled into the center of town. Just as it stops moving the door bursts open, and a figure with a long coat bursts out at full speed dashing through the streets of town. Daedus is looking for the guild hall of the Nightingales but has no time to stop and ask for directions, he's already super late. Between almost tackling multiple people and nearly running into buildings on the sharp turns and narrow streets, he attempts to memorize where all of the major buildings are: the library, the blacksmith, and certainly any restaurants.

After a solid five minutes of this sprinting, Dae sees a tall tower standing on the outskirts of town right at the entrance into the forest. He tries running even faster, panting heavily the whole time. As he approaches he sees a few boys slightly older than him, one with a bow and silver hair, an elf with jet black hair and some extremely nice clothing, one with a big sword, and one who is dashing off into the woods. There were also two girls, one with an owl, the other seemed rather normal, compared to everyone else in this uncanny group. Lastly there was a man, with black hair, a bow in hand, a fluffy owl on his shoulder, and a basilisk next to him. Wait... a basilisk?!?

Dae's eyes and mouth open wide. Paying attention solely to this beast, he trips over a rock that was in the ground, sending him flying face first into the dirt. Right in the middle of the group. Dae coughs as the cloud of dust clears up. "Is this the Nightingale's guild hall?" He asks, looking at the man with the owl on his shoulder. Trying to ignore the fact that there is a giant serpent next to him.

A test of endurance? J was wondering if that was all it could be. His trainer had a smile, and was chuckling.. J didn't think it was going to be as easy as that. So he would try his best to be cautious during his run through. For himself, he decided to run up a tree, after gaining enough momentum, he hopped up on one of the branches. Being careful enough to not let it snap, he began hopping, jumping, and running against other trees and balancing himself on branches to keep himself above the ground, so that if anything weird came into view he'd be aware of it and react accordingly. While Parkouring through, he was careful to watch for the other trainee that ran in without a second thought, he would try his best to tell the other trainee to be cautious.

J had remembered someone with a rather stylish look arriving just before J left. He had no chance to say hello, either way J thought it the best not to talk either way. Rubbing at his scar again, he didn't think he could make friends if he spoke. His voice, too weird, too scratchy and messed up. One of J's fears was that he would speak, and everyone around him would feel out of place, and push J away.. He didn't want that, so perhaps being silent as ever was his best option. He believed that he could get through without speaking, nobody seemed to notice him back at the Guild Hall, so maybe he'll be alright.

J kept moving through the trees, slipping on through with ease, he then spotted Teonor from afar, deciding to kick it up a notch and catch up with him, to let him know to be careful in the forest.

Gabrielle KrausEngineer Trainee
Location: Ayrith, Ishrion - Nightingale Guild Hall

Gabrielle's jade green eyes widened as the woman's appearance changed right in front of them, transforming into a tattooed man who introduced himself as their trainer. She rarely ever got to hear about magic in her hometown, much less witness it firsthand, so she couldn't do much more than stare. What was even more daunting, however, was when the basilisk came in close and began to smell them. Gabrielle averted her gaze and tried not to look at her directly in the eye---she knew what the legends said. And well, when a huge, ancient snake tells you not to do something, it's probably a good idea to listen.

Their trainer began to speak to the group. Predictability, huh? Gabrielle took a mental note on everything Ari explained, wanting to absorb as much information as she could to make up for her lack of experience. It made sense to her that he'd want them to carve their own paths. Her father always told her to do what she felt was right and discover her own style for creating weapons. "Every blacksmith has a unique way of doing things, Gaby. No one sword is the same as another," he had once said. She smiled fondly at the memory, but this was no time to be reminiscent. One of the trainees had said something that offended the basilisk, and she was almost certain that they were going to lose their head. Note to self: Do NOT insult the big snake.

The chestnut-haired girl looked in the direction that Ari had pointed. She perked up at the prospect of a race, thinking it to be simple enough. Taking into consideration how long it had taken her to get to the Guild Hall, she tried to determine how far they'd have to travel. The initial trip from the edge of the forest was approximately half an hour walking, but she knew the forest was wider than it was deep. Gabrielle guessed that pacing herself would be the best decision, since she wasn't very fast.

Gabrielle sprinted off straight into the forest to give herself at least a bit of a head-start. It was more to release the dormant excitement she still held since her arrival, but she was able to cover ample distance. After the first minute, her pace slowed down to a moderate run and she took the time to even out her breathing. While she couldn't beat her peers in terms of speed, endurance was a strong suit of hers. Travelling through forests was a challenge, though. There were so many trees and bushes around that it was hard to run in a straight line. Damn it, this is slowing me down. She blamed the long skirt draped around her legs that was getting caught in every branch and bramble it brushed past. At this rate, she was definitely going to fall behind.

"Curse this... damn dress!" Gabrielle muttered angrily, pulling at the soft fabric to free it from nature's grasp. There was no other choice---not if she wanted to make it on time. The blacksmith hardened her resolve as she untied a small blade from her belt and raised it to her skirt. "Sorry, mom..." The red fabric began to tear from the end of her dress as she cut it with the knife. When it came up to her knees, she dragged the blade around herself and removed the now useless piece of cloth. It wasn't her best handiwork, but it would have to do. The dress was due for an upgrade, anyway.

Gabrielle twisted the blade back in its place before starting toward the goal once again, feeling a lot freer than before.

Alison took off into the forest, ducking and weaving through the trees. While she was acrobatic, she wasn't very fit in terms of her cardio, so she was tired out very fast. She took up temporary residence in a tree and jumped from tree to tree. "Move ahead, Autumn, and scout for me."
"Of course, Alli." The owl chirped and flew off to see what was in the forest

Ari Waesmor
"So Misty, how would you rate their teamwork?"
Misty, who had been grooming herself, looked up. "Non-existent so far consider that they went in at all separate times. Shall I interject?"
"Not yet. I want you overhead so I can watch."
Misty turned a flip. "I'll await your command, Master."
Misty took to the skies, still in small form. Without great eyesight, one wouldn't be able to tell who she was from the forest floor. It would look like just another bird in the sky, which was made worse by the fact that there were other birds in the sky.

Someone else came out of nowhere. "I'll deal with your lateness later. Get in the forest and race to the finish. The other trainees are already on their way," Ari said to the guy without even introducing himself or what was coming. He wasn't about to explain things again just because someone was late

Autumn
Autumn took in all the sights of the forest for Alison to see
1463123589112

The forest was dense to the point where it started to block out the sun a bit. As they moved about the forest, it looked to even more massive inside than out. If one had looked overhead, the woodland would seem fairly see through to a pretty good degree with clearances being easy to find. However, since they entered, it seemed to darken and trees seemingly got MUCH thicker. Maybe there was magic in place here, but who could know other than someone who was sensitive to said magic. If magic was in place here, it would suck to realize that they would be going literally nowhere until they were found with absolute ease by their teacher. However, trying to scan for magic residue could get them lost or lag behind the others.

The wildlife in the forest was dense but docile. The animals all found here were small and a lot were magic enchanted, which was backed up by magic runes being seen or them giving off a glow. Rabbits, squirrels, spiders, deer, small birds. It was an incredible sight to behold, true nature beauty, the harmony of magic within the earth. If one didn't care much for their mission success, they could take a seat and admire the beauty of the forest. If one chose to keep straight forward, they'd end up seeing that a particular animal was also running straight forward, crashing through the small branches and busting through rocks with incredible ease. The small animal was cute, but agile. It seemed to have a goal in mind as it charged. If one could catch up with or catch it, it could very well be a friendly animal. If it wasn't though, it could attack, not to mention that if the animal got scared and ran, it could lead them astray. That could get them to fall behind
3ced34edff3a63fb9ee8f1ee1de303ba.jpg

If one moved far enough away from the start point, one could come across a weird sight, one definitely out of character for a magic forest. A small little machine could be seen by a tree. It was small, but it was making noise. Upon closer inspection, it looked like a spider and appeared to be having a seizure, with electricity coming out from it. It was malfunctioning and couldn't move at all. It seemed pretty easy to fix, but one would have to take it apart, which required a form of investment. If they tried to fix it here, they could very well finish last and get scolded for stopping. The little spider could be useless to their current goals anyways, so why bother? How would it help them get to the goal? Was it meant to be fixed? Most likely a Nightingale engineer was perfecting such a device.

"Yes sir!" Daedus said as he picked himself up off the ground, brushing the dirt off of his coat and fixing his hair. Teamwork? In a race? It might be hard to convince someone to work with him. He certainly wasn't going to stick around here and ask anyone remaining for help or he would lose and he can't lose this as he was already late, losing a race would make him seem like even more of an embarrassment! In regards of teammates he had three choices, try and catch up with the ranger and the boy that ran in first, meet up with owl girl who seems to have disappeared, or go with the average girl. The final choice seemed the best out of the three.

Dae runs into the woods and tries to find this girl, which proves to be a difficult task. He stops for a moment to catch his breath from all the running he's done. In this brief period he finds some bits of the girl's dress that got torn off by the brush. He jogs in that direction and sees her silhouette in the distance. "Hey! Can you help me? I arrived late to the party and don't know what exactly we're supposed to be doing. I heard something about teamwork and racing to the end of this forest!" He shouts, waving at her as well just in case she can't see where he is.
