Risen from the dead

So what is one to do when a demon hybrid meets a fallen angel?

Definitely stay out of the way.

It's about to burn.

Aiden tapped the cigarette on the edge of the railing, it creaked when he leaned against it. These things were useless, or well, they were now- he could fall to his death at any point in time. Or not, or he could lay there in agony for a while before his body healed itself, being as he was and all. Dropping the smoking cylinder he pushed himself off the failing metal before shoving his hands in his pockets. This city had been through Hell before he got here, who knew what happened, could of been a lot of things. Never crossed his mind it could've been a war. He knew somethings, but nothing of what happened prior to his turning, as he'd nothing to understand. This year, this very year, was the year that things took a rather harsh turn and now he could easily understand each passing demon's thoughts. They either wanted him dead or didn't want to acknowledge him at all, it didn't matter. He could understand each fleeting thought, pick it up out of their heads like rubble off the ground. The only one that even came near him was missing an eye socket, but it was barely around, only coming to check on him- or at least he assumed that's what it was doing- once every week. It was about the only company he had, humans were gone, silhouettes were everywhere. What else was left?

Gabriel was at it again.

The thrill of the hunt - it was all he lived for these days, flitting back and forth between the two levels, killing on sight what he could and chasing after what he couldn't. Was it even killing really? His siblings referred to it as cleansing, that the demons were tainting the earth and the AngelFyre burned with purity. But to Gabriel, it just felt like killing. Not that the Fallen angel minded much...he hated the creatures just as much as the other four. He took down what he could, and every time he ran one through with the blade of his scythe, another small battle was won...though the angel knew they would never win the war.

The Legion had collapsed, or at least on their side it had. This earth was not as it once had been. And the last surviving humans had been possessed by the evil that had managed to cloud the realm...it sickened him. hat he could not save them.

And so he hunted for an eternity.

His current target had been quite elusive...surprising, given the demon's missing eye socket. He figured the monster would be damaged, slow, but it had managed to evade him for a record three days. It was only just now, as he soared over the rubble that was the ruined planet, that he spotted the abomination. His icy green eyes narrowed as the grip on his scythe tightened, his wings beating rhythmically above the ground. He watched it wander, almost floating, with an unclear motive. Gabriel gripped his weapon tighter, before diving towards the ground.

Aiden had wandered down from the rims of the city and started heading back in. He always thought about leaving, running away, but this city was all he knew and was the only place where he had a comfortable feeling. He knew it like the back of his hand, he liked it like that, he could run where he wanted. He could slip out of anything's grasp. He also thought of it like that. He seemed to think he had a lot of things, wasn't so sure that he didn't. Kicking the ruble as his hopped over the chain link fence, clamped his hands on a ladder, and started climbing. There was a barrier around the city. Something the humans must have put up when they thought they could win, something to keep the silhouettes out. How well that worked out eh? The back barrier had been breached but Aiden never used that one, he always exited through the front of the city. Up town.

Hopping off the other side he hit the ground, grunting at the impact to his knees. Blinking, something moved in front of him. Aiden turned his head, what was that? He blinked, ducking under the creature charging him, or no, he turned, it was hiding behind him. He gave it an ridiculous look, as if asking what it was doing. It snarled, looking past him, growling beside him like a dog and it's master. He looked up, squinting, something else was moving too, and it was setting Matthias off- yes, he named it. Aiden leaned into the creature's side, trying to make out what exactly was coming after them.

Of all the things he could have expected to see, it was not what was currently in front him. He'd darted over the land like a heat seeking missile, his wings just slightly brushing the fence as he shot by, attempting to come up behind his prey. A rush of irritation shot through him when he lost sight of the demon, and he spun around, refusing to admit he'd been eluded - again. Spinning his scythe, he backtracked around a partly scorched building, before his eyes widened in shock. He'd managed to re find his target...and something...someone...else.

Thrown off guard, Gabriel hovered in the air, holding out the blade in front of him. He only let his surprise show for a second before regaining his purpose, though his eyes never left the strange being's.

"What are you?" he asked, his voice thundering through the quiet, cutting through it like a whip as he held the blade at the ready, pointed straight at them.

Aiden squinted, were those...Wings? He made a chuckle, almost like he couldn't believe what he was seeing, everything in his look said 'Oh no way' "Well hello to you too." He said, sounding almost amused, holding his arms out making a welcoming gesture, sarcastic per usual "Do you usually greet people like that, or uh, do you just not like me?" Aiden cocked his head, Matthias had stopped growling looking at Aiden, and if the male was reading the silhouette right, Matthias was suggesting murder. Aiden wasn't such, at least not without being provoked. He put his arms down and examining what he was looking at, if he'd remembered his agonizing days at church right, that looked like an angel...Or something close. To be honest, he didn't have to remember those days to know a winged human signaled angel, or usually did, but this guy didn't look like any demon he'd ever seen- and that was a hell of a lot. That scythe, though, looked pretty dangerous...He didn't like it. If this guy was after Matthias, he could stop that now. That wasn't allowed, not now not ever, he could go find another silhouette to kill.

It was all very...out of the ordinary. He hadn't heard his own voice out loud in years, let alone someone else's. He mentally communicated with the others, and that was if he even saw them. His dark wings beat silently for a moment as he analyzed the situation.

"Either answer the question, or share your fate with the scum you're protecting," He snarled, coming closer, though he was still wary of the being he addressed. Human...? No...There was something different about him. Something a little bit off. He wasn't a demon. The Nephilim were dead. He couldn't be. But he wasn't a warlock either...no, a warlock's power wasn't their own. The energy the Fallen felt was completely original, and unsettling. A rune on the back of Gabriel's hand in the shape of an eye began to burn as he focused on it. The edges of the mark began to glow red as his frustration grew as he realized that he really had no idea what he was facing. It worried the angel to say the least...

When he felt the skin on his hand begin to melt, he gave up, unable to decipher the origin of this power emanating human.

"Ah, I'm sorry, fate? So you determine that then? You know I could ask you the same question but unlike you I think I've got that all figured out." Aiden shrugged, narrowed his eyes when the other came closer, on no. Oh no thank you. Aiden slid his fingers against the guns in his coat pockets. Alright, so the other had a scythe and he had twin pistols, who would win? Well, he could work long distance the other would have to come pretty close for combat. He could work with that, but the other could be fast, he had wings. That was uncomfortable. He didn't like it. He was still examining Gabriel, but he was also examining his surroundings. If the other came any closer it was going to go anywhere he wanted it to. They were on a street, there weren't any turns for a while but there was an alley way. He didn't need to glance down it to know there was a sewer way. He would need a distraction- and he would need Matthias to move. Both were from likely to unlikely, and Aiden had to figure it out fast.

"I was created to determine that," Gabriel snapped, his eyes flashing. "I am of the Legion, and Demons were never fit to roam the earth. They must be purged."

He was growing impatient. Three days he'd been looking for the creature, and there was no way on earth anything similar to a mere human being was going to stop him. He noticed the...man...slide his hands into his pockets, most likely for a weapon. Something mundane, he guessed...guns? Knives? The angel hadn't missed the way the other's eyes had flitted around before resting back on him, anticipating a fight. Hopefully, if this went the way he wanted it to, it wouldn't be anything more than a scuffle, ending with one more dead demon on top of the thousands he'd killed before. "I give you one last chance."

"Of course you were oh holy one, praise the mighty ones." Aiden said, giving a sideways smile, or maybe it was a smirk, one couldn't be sure. He seemed to perk up at the last comment before he took his hands out of his pockets, looking over at Matthias with a frown, then back to Gabriel "One last chance is all I need. You want to know what I am?" He asked, now he was quite sure it was a smirk, holding his hands up, as if a sign of peace, but it didn't take long for those hands to close into fists "Why don't you tell me, big guy?" Aiden clapped his hands together and it looked like a smoke bomb went off, minus the see through, seeing as the smoke was black- despite that it wasn't hard to hear the fleeting footsteps, sliding metal, and then silence. The two of them were gone, down the alley way, into the sewer. Aiden didn't know whether the winged one would follow or not but he didn't much care. The sewers were pitch black but he could easily find his way around as he could, of course, see straight through the dark- Matthias at his side "You really piss off the wrong people don't you?" He gave the silhouette a sideways glance, the creature didn't reply, and he didn't expect it to.

Not one to be left standing like an idiot, the tall angel wasted no time in chasing after them, waving through the smoke. Regardless of the being's words, he still had no clue as to what the man was, though he was rethinking the warlock option. He sprinted down the alley, sliding to a stop when he came to the sewer's entrance, grimacing. It was one of the few things that actually bothered him...the claustrophobia. Rather predictable for an angel, as they were used to the open air. For him to be trapped underground in a sewer of all places...

Ignoring his mind's warnings, Gabriel continued after the duo, muttering under is breath as the blade of his scythe it, allowing him limited vision in the darkness as he followed the demonic energy through the tunnels.

The way Matthias's head jerked back to look behind them was clue enough that the other had followed. Aiden had to give him credit, he was persistent. Good, that meant they would never have a dull moment. Aiden shoved Matthias to the right, the creature jumped over the sewage, which hadn't been leaked out in forever and with no one to work the sewage plants- let's just say this was not a pleasant place to be and if you fell in, you could take a thousand showers and it still would get the smell to fade. Aiden followed right after, taking a corner and heading down another turn, he squinted, there were bars ahead. Huh, so those weren't just in the movies. Matthias and him exchanged glances but kept heading straight for them, and when they hit them, they both slipped right through, evaporating into smoke then coming back into a physical form. Demons had their way with smoke, fire, and shadows- it was oh so helpful. Aiden imagined the winged one would slice right through the bars so he wasted no time skidding around, trying to figure out where would be a good place to surface. He had a high stamina but it wasn't infinite.

Gabriel's lip curled in disgust as he followed after, the smell nearly overpowering him with its sickening pungent odor. Added to that, he felt like the walls were going to close in on him at any moment, though it just forced him to run faster. He turned a corner, catching a last wisp of smoke disappear behind bars at the fr end of the pipe he'd entered, before reforming into...the being from earlier. Back to square one with the origin of it's powers, Gabriel simply growled in annoyance and ran at the pipes, swinging his scythe as best he could in the small area and slicing through the rusted metal. His left wing brushed against the soiled wall and he groaned, shaking off the suspicious looking green mush, imagining how he was going to remove every bone from his target's body through his severed neck when he caught them.

"Can't run forever laddie," he yelled, though his voice was strained with obvious discomfort, his accent thickening due to the stress.

Aiden laughed "Neither can you, lassie." Aiden almost snorted looking back behind him, that was no good. He gripped Matthias's side and jumped up onto his back "Faster buddy boy, that way." Aiden pointed aimlessly into the darkness and Matthias started to run faster. He may have had terrible coordination, balance, and was missing an eyes but he made up with it in other strengths. It was a fun game of cat and mouse, Matthias being the mouse made zig-zag paths, jumping over obstacles, slipping through bars, taking sharp unexpected turns, before crossing paths again and bursting through a door. It had led to a narrower pathway, one that the workers would use to get to the sewage plant and sewers. Wires lined the walls, floors, and busted glass was all over the ground, but it didn't much matter. They were making their way to the sewage plant, just a little outside the city, then the games would begin. If the other wanted to play tag, they would play tag- with more players.

That was it- Gabriel had had enough. First the mockery of the Legion, then the ridiculous smelly goose chase, and even his accent was being mocked?

Unacceptable.

At this point he didn't really care whatever the hell the man was. he just wanted him to shut up. Gathering his energy, he pressed his hands on either side of the pipe. Disregarding the filth on the walls, his runes glowed as he let out a yell, the energy moving from the marks to his hands, and sending two brilliantly bright lights running along the walls ahead of him. They'd attack whatever demonic forces that were sensed, and hopefully it'd slow the two down enough to allow Gabriel to finish him. His eyes glowed with the force of the power, and he put all of his remaining strength into one last sprint, dashing after them with his arms raised, scythe in hands.

Aiden widened his eyes, Matthias tumbled, oh god. Aiden hit the ground and Matthias fell next to him, both blinded temporarily. Aiden panicked, looking over at Matthias or what he assumed was Matthias he let his hand grab onto the silhouette- in seconds it was gone. Matthias had sunken into shadows while Aiden still lay blinded, groaning "God I hope you make this quick, because I have a lot of people in Hell that are just dying to see me." He said, rubbing his eyes, counting all the people that had ever threatened to kill him, yeah he was quite sure they were in Hell, just watching him and laughing. He'd just taken the fall for Matthias, who was now gone, hidden somewhere else. It was just him, lying alone, waiting for that scythe to come down on his neck. At least he couldn't see it, that was the last thing he wanted. Sure, he'd feel it, but he didn't want to see the blood- he couldn't do blood. Seeing someone else's was fine but if he saw his own, he'd faint.

Gabriel finally caught up to him, feeling the ping in his energy as it served its purpose and blinded the man. He tightened the grip on the scythe, ready to swing down on the man from above, but stopped as he got a closer look. The still shining blade of the weapon allowed him to see his face more clearly, how human he really looked. And no matter how annoyed he'd gotten...Gabriel couldn't murder an innocent person. The truth was, until he had a clear idea of what and who this being was, he couldn't end his life. He just wasn't wired that way. Which, ultimately, irritated the Fallen even more.

He lowered the scythe in one hand, resting the end of it by his feet, before reaching out with his other hand to his former prey, letting his power work like a sedative, subduing the man enough that he couldn't get away, but not enough to permanently damage anything. He gasped as his hand came down upon the being's shoulder, the touch sending a strange jolt through him, further highlighting the uncertainty in Gabriel's mind. His piercing green stare shone through the darkness as he let go.

"Get up."

Aiden squinted "What?" He blinked, so he wasn't going to kill him then? Shame, but oh well, Matthias still needed to be looked after anyway. He rolled over on to his fours and pushed himself up, craning his neck to look up at the other, muttering something about him being so tall before backing up to get a better look. He looked old, but not too old, maybe in his twenties? He didn't quite understand what the other was wearing, or what his goal was, or what he'd been trying to achieve other than killing him or Matthias and now- now he was backing off? Aiden didn't trust him, he really, really didn't but that didn't stop his attitude from seeping through either way, he waited for the other to give him another order, he almost wanted to dare him to. Though, with a new found feeling he didn't think he could get very far even if he wanted to run but he had no reason to, not anymore. He'd done what he could and for now he stuck his hands back in his pockets, his pants pockets this time, still examining the other for all he was.

"You're coming with me," he said vaguely, turning his back to the man and walking away, expecting him to follow. If he didn't, the energy running through his veins would keep him rooted...and Gabriel really didn't think anyone would want to spend the rest of their life in the sewers. He planned to find the nearest ladder and simply go upwards...hopefully he wouldn't be too lost when he resurfaced. He hadn't forgotten the loss of the demon he'd been hunting in the first place, and he wouldn't mind taking it out on his new captive - but he needed to figure out exactly what he was first. And if he himself didn't know, his elder brother certainly would...

"This would be a lot easier if you just told me how to get out of here," he said, after about five more minutes of pointless walking, the time seeming longer in the darkness. He was growing more and more uneasy, and the feeling of being trapped was beginning to make itself known.

"Oh good." Aiden muttered, throwing up jazz hands like he was having the time of his life before he started following the other. He couldn't run and well this was the first interesting thing, or being, he'd seen in a while. Thus, easily seeing straight through the dark, he followed like a dog and it's master...Funny, he could've sworn he'd already thought about something like that today. Oh well, he kicked sewer rats out of the way and into the dirty water as they walk, he couldn't help but smirk, watching what ever his name was walking around like a lost little kid. To be honest he hoped he felt like on too. At his comment Aiden only clicked his tongue "It would be, woudn't it?" He asked, which only went to prove that he wasn't going to tell the other had to get out "If you're made to determine other's fate then certainly the oh so great can find his way out of a sewer. No big deal." Aiden said, shrugging.

"Ye think this is funny, do ya?"

Gabriel all but blurred across the area to slam him into a wall, grabbing fistfuls of the man's jacket and keeping him there as he stared him down. As if the ice daggered glare wasn't enough to get his point across, Gabriel purposely let his eyes glow until they were almost painfully bright to look at. "The only reason I haven't killed you is because i'm not a monster like that thing you seemed to be mates with. But let me tell you, If you keep me from my mission for one more unnecessary minute, I will hurt you."

"Yes, I do. I think it's hilarious." Aiden said, only having time to blink before he was slammed into a wall. Oh yes, did the other care to do it harder, not like he wasn't already aching from the tumble "Mates? Well now, you've got that wrong. We're just friends, and I prefer to keep my friends alive, thanks- and I don't care what your mission is, if it involves my friend then you can bet that I'm going to get in your way. Expect it. So are you done? Or would you like to slam me into this wall a little harder? Would it make you feel better if I left a dent princess? Go ahead." Aiden said, bracing himself to be pulled back and slammed, he was always good at provoking the worst of people.

Gabriel thought it over and decided to go for the throat, wrapping his hands around the neck and squeezing slowly, enjoying the show of the gradual struggle for air. In a mere thirty minutes this being had managed to provoke the ever lurking anger within him, and the claustrophobia weighed in also. He was enjoying this. He could just kill him right here, watching the life drain from him was ever so satisfying. No one would know...

His grip tightened, and he moved his other hand, about to snap the mans neck -

~Go on, little brother. Do it. You know you've wanted to...~

He froze. That voice in his head, it was...no. Not here not now. It was too much. His hands stopped moving.

~Come on, Gabriel...you're just like me. Just like me, and you know it.~

Gabriel starred in horror at his hands, before letting go of the man, as if his very skin had burned him. He disperesed the energy that had surrounded the man before backing up as fast as possible, holding his head.

~You coward you. I should have left you to die, gutted you and torn your wings off like the rest of them~

"Get out! Get out of my head!" He nearly tripped, yelling, clawing at his own face as the voice in his mind mocked him, the situation bringing back memories he didn't want. He nearly killed. Again. Again, HE had gotten into his brain, made him want to become the very thing he was so afraid of.

Aiden let his feet ht the wall behind him, refusing to watching or feel his own legs kick around as he blinked, the air was fleeting painfully slow from his lungs. Great, so he wasn't going to die from a scythe but from suffocation, good. Aiden narrowed his eyes, almost daring the other to do it but then was when he felt the hands ready to turn his neck the wrong way- but right about then was when he was released. Automatically he went to his knees, not having it in him to stand, before steadying himself with one hand, gasping for that precious thing called oxygen. He coughed, spitting up some black, gooey liquid that only he knew the origin to before looking up at the other, watching him struggle over nothing. Or, well, at least he thought it was nothing "You're...Insane." He said coughing between his words before standing and wiping his mouth. Great, so this guy had anger issue, wasn't mentaly stable, and wanted him dead. Oh yeah, that combination was golden. He was almost tempted to look to the heavens and shout 'anything else?!', but he wouldn't offend his 'holy' guest any further...At least for now.

"Go. Just...go," Gabriel muttered, now a good ten feet away from the other male, his clawing at his head reduced to the twitching of is fingers at his side as he kept a safe distance. He didn't want to be anywhere near him, lest the...urge...resurfaced again. He leaned against the wall, breathing heavily as he tried to block the disturbing images and voices from his mind, not realizing he was actually shaking from it. He finally looked up, meeting the other's eyes with an unreadable expression. He figured the man would have taken off by now, utilized his 'head start'. Even if Gabriel wanted to return to his former activity, he wasn't in the state to do it right now, and he was certainly not up for wandering around for another half hour like an idiot. The formerly mentioned insanity hadn't yet defiled his sense of dignity. "Did you not hear me? Just leave already! I just tried to...tried to..."
