In a world were the advancements made by humanity were reduced to rubble by an event known as the Catastrophe, human beings in the wake of this event found themselves pondering the reason for this disaster? Was it God or gods that dealt out this punishment for the arrogance of mankind in assuming they were masters of the Earth? These questions eventually led to various forms of ancient beliefs resurfacing within the United States, such as that of polytheism, astrology amongst various different varieties. With the collapse of the federal government, the fifty states reverted back to the original, independent status though not one of a democratic nature. With the rise of these very different types of autocracies and theocracies, as well as Native American tribes seizing land in the middle of the country that once belonged to their ancestors, the need for superior soldiers and bodyguards developed. These "bonded soldiers" would become most sought after by the new dynasties in place and a facility for the production of the technologies used in the "bonding process" would be established in Boston, Massachusetts.
Though these warriors are mighty and loyal, it does not mean that they are mindless beings that do the bidding of their partners absolutely.
To find whether their feelings are genuine, for both warrior and civilian, is the biggest obstacle in a bond that is thicker than blood.
