Stand, stand up!
What choice have they given us?

Akeela "Greyson Lynel"
Male
25 years

6'3ft tall
Athletic
Dark Ash blond hair
Bright golden eyes

Akeela is a Wolven, a relative of the more common and much more known werewolves.
His kind has almost gone extinct.
unlike werewolves, they aren't influenced by moonlight and don't lose their mind or turn into vicious killing machines.
Their emotions can trigger a transformation if the Wolven is lacking self-control, and like werewolves, they get burned by silver. Their eyes are very sensitive towards moonlight.

Jason Barley
26 years old, 5'11''
Feeling down on his luck after the passing of his grandfather, Jason decided
he needed to bring some life back into the house. He had lived with the old
man to take care of him in his final years and the constant neediness left him
feeling a little clueless what to do with the space and silence. The cat was
okay but she just kind of came and went as she pleased. So, deciding to fulfill
a childhood dream, Jason went to the pound to pick a new companion. He
found what he thought had to be the ugliest dog on death row and knew that
was the one.

He sat back slowly, body sinking into that old couch that was barely hanging together from the 90s. The boxes were all packed up, the last of everything cleaned up around the house that still smelled of stale cigarettes and booze. All the windows were opened, air fresheners plugged into just about every socket. Part of the carpet was ripped up, left behind mid-renovation. The last month had been... really difficult and honestly, Jason was just doing everything imaginable to keep his mind occupied. The house was old. Made a lot of noise and every time it did, he would look over his shoulder to see if his grandpa needed some help. Except every time he looked, he was just met with an empty room, a hollow hall.

Mrrr... Blue eyes shifted over to the side. Schmuck, the small tuxedo cat, sat in the opened window sill, cleaning her paw before grooming her back leg. The dumb thing came and went when it pleased. Petting it was a 50/50 chance of getting your ass handed to you. "You really are a schmuck," Jason said, a small smile on his face. Grandpa was always yelling at that thing when he came in and caught her scratching up something. He'd gone out and bought a scratching post; a gift to the cat and his grandfather. Worked wonders too, which only made the old man huff at the cat even more.

"...it's too quiet..." Jason sighed and closed his eyes, leaning back lazily against the couch as he brought his hands to his face.

"Oh, this one? No one really wants him and he's not the best behaved," the woman said almost apologetically, holding the leash tightly around her fist. Jason stared down at the ugly thing. It reminded him of his grandpa - gruff, scraggly, grey. "He's going in the back. Unfortunately, this little guy is on the 24 hour list now." She looked at the dog, giving it a small pat on his head. "He's been here for a while and no interest from anyone. We've tried but we... gotta make more room."

Jason shoved his hands in his pockets as he looked at the dog. Finally, he leaned down some, holding the back of his hand down cautiously to let the canine catch his smell and to judge his behavior. "I'll take him," he said, much to the woman's surprise. Her brows raised a bit and she opened her mouth to speak but he just kind of looked back up at her with a small smile. "I'm not stranger to taking care of stubborn things." The process didn't take terribly long. Especially for a dog on death row. They were just happy to break him free from his dreadful fate.

"Well buddy, it's just us now," Jason said, holding the leash as he stepped outside. "I really didn't plan this through... I gotta get food and water bowls... food..." He mumbled to himself as he opened the back door. "Um...get in?" Did the dog know anything about car rides? He really didn't think this through long enough.

They called him Shaggy, but that wasn't his name.
And he wasn't an Irish wolfhound mix either, despite their 50% certainty regarding his breed. Fact is, the reason why they had never been able to really determine what kind of dog he was was because- well, he wasn't a dog.
He was a Wolven; and in contrast to their expectations, he understood every word they said and the situation he was in.
He knew they would soon have to put him down, but still he would stay for as long as possible and hope that a miracle would happen and a human would take him home.
He could've easily escaped the animal shelter, but he wasn't she out there, not on his own.
He needed a human as a part of his disguise. They would never expect him near any human, after all, so that's exactly where he would hide.

Luckily, as long as he wouldn't use his telepathic ability or transform into a human, his eyes appeared brown; another detail that would help him hide.
And so he stayed, waited, going for a miracle to happen. He wasn't ready yet, but one day... One day he'd find his Clan, one day he'd see them again.

When Akeela heard the door of the animal shelter opening, he lifted his head off his paws, eyes seeking the room for the source of the sound.
A man of about his age, he guessed, had entered, and his fine sixth sense told the Wolven immediately that he was feeling lonely.
And... He was coming in his direction!

Soon enough, the lady in charge actually opened the door of his kennel, for the first time not for feeding him or going for a walk, but because someone seemed to be interested in taking him home.
The enormous dog trotted after her as if the leash could control him in any way, wondering why this man was interested in him...
But when he heard her saying that he wasn't the best behaved he gave her a glare that looked all too human.
What?!
He had excellent manners! The man however didn't seem to let his decision be influenced by her- or maybe he decided to take him in because she told him that he was on the 24 hour list- and held his hand down... For him to sniff it or what?
The enormous dog just cocked his head to the side and lifted his paw into the guy's hand, as if he was shaking his hand.
So much for bad manners!

And then he actually said the magical three words: I'll take him.
As soon as he had brought him to his car and told him to get in, Akeela stretched for a moment before he yawned...
Which in his his case looked like the top of his head was becoming detached of the bottom half, revealing the abyss of his maw, armed with an intimidating amount of razor sharp fangs.
Then he made a sound like a supersonic jet taking off, before he hopped into the car and looked right into the man's eyes.
Thank you, he thought, knowing that he'd very probably shrug the voice in his head off as imagination.
But he wouldn't eat dog food!

Blue eyes watched as the animal just kind of took his time stretching. Please, he didn't want to have to pick up the massive thing and try to shove him in the back seat. Eventually though, the monster of a dog hopped in and Jason smiled. "Good boy," he said, relieved, and reached out to ruffle Shaggys ears with both hands. Interesting texture. Hell, interesting dog. Spooky face with wet noodles for fur.

Thank you.

Jason watched the dog a moment longer. He did look relatively happy, or at least content. Did the poor thing know he was on borrowed time? Jason shook his head before he closed the back door and walked around the car. "Alright then big guy. Let's get you all set up, huh?" Jason rolled down the back window for his new companion before he pulled out of the shelters parking lot. He hit up one of the big chain pet stores and the man did not scrimp on goods for his dog. Spoke to someone about the best brand of dog food, easily suckered into the expensive stuff. Plenty of toys and treats, the biggest dog bed they had, though honestly he'd probably just let Shaggy on the bed and rest of the furniture. Tall enough water and food dish, flea repellant dog shampoo, brush, the whole nine yards. He even got poor Akeela a stylish dog vest harness that Jason gleefully put on him as soon as it was paid.

"This is it for now buddy. This is home," Jason said, lugging everything into the house and dropping it in the living room floor. Besides the box clutter and the mess from the renovations taking place, it was a decently sized home. Two bedroom, one bath. Everything in it looked so dated though, like it had never left the 80s and 90s. Old browning wallpaper, old shag beige carpeting with drink or food stains here and there.

Jason took the dishes and food to the kitchen, getting Shaggy a corner all set up before he went back to take the tags off everything else.

Akeela \\\ Rise \\\

This human was beyond unusual. First, he had chosen to take a dog that was tall enough to put its paws on his shoulders standing up, then he didn't hesitate to drive to a pet store with him to get everything set up for him right away.
he was actually touched by so much kindness; he'd never known something like that. He'd grown up alone, on the streets, until the people of the animal shelter had found him and taken him in.
they had been fairly nice, he'd say, but they of course was their job.
He'd have to pay him back sometime... Somehow.

Their shopping tour at the pet shop was a special experience, especially when he watched curiously with what impressive manipulation the shop assistant talked him into buying the expensive stuff.
he was quite taken aback by the stone cold calculating mindset of that man, but on the other hand found it quite heartwarming how much this guy cared about his new companion.
what was his name even? And how could he find out without revealing too much about his true nature?

a harness.
Why a harness?
of all the things he hated, a harness was number one, it made him feel caged and restricted, and it rubbed awfully against his neck.
he squirmed the second the man had put it on him.
oh great, now he'd have to transform tonight to take it off...

and then they were home.
huh, he seemed to be renovating...
the scent though... The scent wasn't this man's. It was similar, but his fine nose sensed that another man had been living here with him, until recently. He had been old...
it didn't take his quick mind long to piece the details together, a house mid-renovation, a lonely man, a fading scent...
the old man was gone.
It made him whine in sympathy for a moment, his intelligent, brown eyes looking right into his human's.
'I'm sorry for your loss', it meant.

but then he got down to setting everything up for him and Akeela carefully tested the dog bed.
it actually was quite comfortable, though he'd probably settle for the couch, if the human would let him.
so while he was busy removing tags and getting everything into place, the Wolven went to explore the place. Two bedrooms, nice! Maybe he could even sleep on the free bed then... He'd always wanted to know what a bed felt like...
but he wouldn't check that out now, he was far too curious about what the man was doing.
so, after a while of sniffing around, Akeela headed back into the living room to hop onto the couch, his eyes following the human's movements with utter interest, at least, until the nighttime closing in took his toll on him and he got up from the couch to rub his head against the man's hand as a 'good night', knowing that most humans liked that kind of affection from a pet.
and, well, while he wasn't exactly a pet, he would have to act like it until he would've figured out how to continue about this new situation.
he yelped a quick "grwowwww- wiff!", That actually sounded quite a lot like 'good night', and headed right into the bedroom with the stale scent. This surely was the one the man didn't use, so he could hopefully occupy it.
he curled up on the mattress comfortably, head resting on his paws as he relaxed, waiting for him to go to bed and fall asleep as well... So he could finally get rid of that darn harness.

[div class=text]The day went by pretty smoothly after that. Jason was on and off the phone with some other relatives; all of them interested in what they could get from grandpa or what dad left behind. Like vultures, they came out of the woodwork to collect the dead mans things. Only problem was, it was incredibly hard to explain that Pete left nothing to them. No one really cared about the old goat except Jason. The old man didn't have much anyways, but the house and possessions had been left to him. Jason's dad was pissed, even going as far as taking it up in court, but the will was.. solid. Pete had done everything in the end. Not that Jason was greedy. He would give things to family all the same as long as he didn't think they were going to turn around and sell it for a quick buck. Which most of them would.
He stopped dealing with people when it was time to eat. A simple helping of double chicken ramen with some actual cooked chicken. Which he made a breast just for Shaggy, handing it down to him with the instruction to be easy, eaaasy. Dinner was ate on the couch next to his new dog, the television was showing some kind of news channel that Jason really wasn't paying much attention to. Finally he got up to take a long shower. He seemed to have disappeared into it before he eventually came back out with the towel wrapped around his waist and Shaggy there to greet him. "Yeah, yeah," Jason smiled at all the noise he was making. After that, Shaggy just kind of... made his way into Pete's old room and Jason stood quiet, watching him. He wondered if he could sense something about that room. Weren't dogs supposed to be good about that? "Night buddy," he called before he turned to his own room. He left the door opened in case Shaggy decided he wanted to sleep on the bed with him instead and Jason changed into his own clothes before flopping back on the spring mattress. He dropped an arm over his face, sighing as his mind rushed through the conversations and texts of that day. Honestly, he didn't even know how he managed to get to sleep.[/div]

[div class=text]Once sleep came, Jason fell hard. He didn't dream, he often didn't. Just a peaceful silence that remained undisturbed... Wait, no, that was wrong. That darkness and silence was suddenly shattered and Jason was sitting up quickly in his bed when he head something hitting the ground? Into a wall? His head spun as a wave of nausea briefly swept through him from being forced out of such a deep sleep. Did a tower of boxes fall? Shit, he didn't want anything to break. Oh, maybe it was Shaggy. Jason forgot for a moment that he had a rather massive dog in the house now.

Exhaling, Jason rubbed his face before he pulled the blankets off and stood up, taking a second to catch his balance before he stepped out of the room and listened. "Shaggy?" he called, turning on the hallway light. No response. He felt his heart skip a beat as the thought of Shaggy getting injured in the mess that was the living room rushed his mind. "Shaggy- Who the hell are you?" His heart was racing for a completely different reason now. He had checked on Pete's room where he last saw his dog and... well that wasn't his fucking dog. Jason turned on the light in the room quickly upon seeing something humanoid moving on the ground with some mutterings and grabbed the closest thing he could find. Which was an old, rusty fire poker that Pete used to... basically do everything when he was too lazy to get up.

Still no sign of Shaggy though. "Where's my dog? Did you hurt my dog? How did you get in my house?" There were a lot of questions racing through his mind as he held the fire poker up. He was too tired to be doing this right now.[/JUSTIFY]

Akeela \\\ Rise \\\

Gosh darn it, this harness-
he wasn't alone.
Just when he had managed to free himself of that darn thing, Akeela noticed the figure standing in the unlit doorway, staring at him.
He could hear his heart racing and the scent of adrenaline emerging from the man before he flicked the light on and pointed a rusty... thing, at him.
His striking golden eyes locked to the tip of the makeshift weapon, shining through strands of half long, dark blonde hair that were hanging into his face.
Startled, the now human Akeela scrambled backwards, thankful that the blanket he was entangled in was hiding his privates.
after all... He was naked.

and while he appeared to be human, there was something, something indescribable, that made him seem like so much more.
maybe it was the color of his eyes, iridescent, like the sun reflecting in pools of molten gold.
maybe it was the way his movements seemed oddly smooth, like the ones of a wolf.
or the sharp, pointy canines that showed through his slightly parted lips.
"Akeela-!", he said hastily, before he hurried to turn into his Wolven form and back to human again, to prove that he indeed was the dog Jason knew as Shaggy.
Then he slowly got up, blanket wrapped around his shoulders to hide his state of undress.
"Could I please have some clothes...? I promise, I'll explain everything to you, but you have to keep this a secret! I'll be as good as dead if you ever tell anyone!"

[div class=text]Was someone really trying to break into the house just to steal the stuff of some old dead man? Then again, this was a very unusual case to be dealing with. It wasn't just some petty criminal, but a nude one at that. Was he dealing with someone on drugs? That could be even more dangerous than just someone trying to rob him. As Akeela moved, Jason stepped closer, waving the fire poker at him again as if threatening him to remain exactly where he was. "I'm calling the cops," he said. Question was, how did he get to his phone without this creep doing whatever creeps did?

Akeela? That was an unusual name. Though just as quickly as the stranger introduced himself, something happened that Jason really, really couldn't describe. He stepped back hastily as the man in front of him seemingly disappeared, instead in his place stood that big ole shaggy dog he brought from the shelter earlier. "What the fuck," he breathed under his breath. His mind was swimming as the man was standing where his dog had just been now. None of it made any sense. Was he dreaming? Was this just a really weird, lucid dream? Had to be. Between the stress of his family, the loss of his grandpa, and the worry of having a new dog, it was all just manifesting itself into a...

The other was speaking now, asking for clothes as he bundled the blankets around him. Jason slowly lowered the poker, licking the front of his teeth slowly in thought before he held up both of his hands. "What the hell is going on here?"[/JUSTIFY]
[/div]

Akeela \\\ Rise \\\

Akeela was backing away once more, at least until he tripped and fell with his hand right onto a ring made of silver that was laying on the floor.
it probably had belonged to the older man.
Hissing painfully, he darted away from the silver while a circular burn, in the very same shape of the ring, started to build up blisters on his palm.
"Dammit-!", He growled, but soon locked his striking eyes to the man in front of him again and slightly knitted his eyebrows together.
"I am a Wolven", he explained carefully. "A... Distant relative of werewolves. I used to live on the streets, hiding, but the people from the animal shelter found me and took me away... And then you took me here."

it didn't seem like Jason intended to give him any clothes, but Akeela really wasn't keen on standing here wearing nothing but a blanket, so he just carefully brushed past the man and sniffed the air for the scent of detergents, following it to the washing machine where he luckily found a pair of joggers. It was still a little damp, but far better than nothing.
he turned his back to Jason, the blanket still hanging from his shoulders so he could put the joggers on without revealing his private parts.
Once he was done and had put on a simple t-shirt as well, he turned back around to Jason, giving him an apologetic glance.
"To be honest I can't tell you much about what is going on", he admitted.
"I don't know much myself. All I know is that I'm running from someone I don't know ever since they found and took my mother away years ago. She'd always warn me 'dont let them find you', 'you have to hide'. So that's what I'm doing."

with the smallest of smiles, he motioned his head towards the kitchen.
"Thank you, by the way. The chicken was delicious."

[div class=text]None of it still made any sense to him. All the same, Jason found himself moving to the side to let the other pass by while he tried to wrap his mind around the situation. Was this guy being serious? Better question yet, was he really not chasing this stranger out of his house? By the time his thoughts came back around, Akeela was approaching again, this time with some clothes he was quickly trying to scramble into.

Sighing, Jason slowly put the fire poker down, running both hands over his head as the man tried to explain the situation to the best of his abilities. "You're serious?" was all he could managed to get out, looking the other over briefly. The mention of eating the chicken though, that just kind of... sealed the truth. He doubted some guy was watching through his window for that long.

Crossing his arms, Jason inhaled slowly as he looked at Akeela carefully. "What am I supposed to do? Like, what now?" he asked the other, leaning against the wall in a bit of a defeated slump. He went to go get a dog and instead he picked up a man. No one was ever going to believe that story. Did he just let Akeela go on his own now that he helped him out of the shelter? He couldn't like... Akeela wasn't a pet.

"I guess, do you need money to leave or? What's... what's the plan?"

ooc|| sorry, i got wrapped up irl for a bit! D; i didn't mean to make you wait this long
