Levistone
BariaCrystal.png

Type: Object
Category: Airship Component

Historical Aspect:
Overview: Levistones is a natural mineral substance that exists all over Elegos. They can be mined primarily from any of Elegos' Floating Islands. Their main function is to serve as a levitation mechanism in Airship. Levistones have a consistent lift depending on its refinement and their quantity.

Discovery: Levistones are recorded to be discovered by the Eastern Union around 500 C.Y.A.D. when a heavy meteor shower struck several floating island in the northern region and shattered its ground. As large pieces of land started to break up, the levistones keeping them afloat were broken apart fell to the mainland.

Creators: For centuries, although the means to harness the stones were available, the science behind activating the levistones eluded many. In 750 C.Y.A.D. it is recorded that the Southern Republic were able to activate the properties of the levistone and enable the creation of Airships. To avoid a war on its front, the Order of the Way commissioned the instruction basic of Airship construction across the world of Elegos.

How it works:
By themselves, the Levistone cannot activate their properties. As discovered by Southerners, the key is Spirit Energy. In their natural state, the levistones are constantly being activated by the large quantities of spirit energy that exists on the floating islands. With this, any Airship engine room operator must be someone who is capable of using spirit energy on command to activate the levistone. Engine setup varies fro nation to nation but the principle to maintain a level ship is the same as a floating island.

Mirimage
Happy_Hughes_family.jpg

Type: Object
Category: Household

Historical Aspect:

Overview: Mirror Image Reflection Gravure. MirImage ( shorthand )
A Mirimage is a still imprint of a specific reflection onto a reflective piece of metal, most notably a mirror. Capturing a reflection has become the primary of obtaining high quality portraits.

Discovery:
Mirimaging, derived from the Acronym Mirimage, was a technique invented in the Western Empire around 200 C.Y.A.D. Imperial Alchemists were able to imbue into normal pieces of Mirror the ability to retain the image in the reflection through a complex alchemic circle and the changing of the metal. This technology quickly became the preferred method of capturing portraits of self or family and others as opposed to the long and drawn out painting and sketching. It was much more affordable as well, making it popular among the less wealthy. Today, many alchemy shops or apothecaries carry these 'Frames' of precisely cut mirrors for the populace.

How it works:
Polished materials on which to imprint the Mirimage can be bought at the local blacksmiths or Apothecaries. From there you bring it to any Alchemist to have the materials structure modified and then imprinted with the appropriate alchemic symbol. From there, any person can simply activate the symbol by applying a special liquid onto it. Imprinting into the metal takes seconds.

Other:
Also of note, a group of alchemists in the Northern Kingdoms around 300 C.Y.A.D. created a way to imprint the Mirimage into a refined and durable tin foil. This proved to be very useful for those wanting to travel around with family images or adventuring to create still imaging without the weight of carrying many Frames.

Later on, in the Eastern Union around 450 C.Y.A.D. scientists and alchemist created a way for the mirimage in tin foil to transfer into paper.

Millivox
1438435520-1.jpg

Type: Object
Category: Communication

Historical Aspect:
Overview: Millivox taken from the Ancient language meaning Distant Voice is a communication device able to relay sound from someones voice. It is a relatively new technology dating only from 955 C.Y.A.D. It is not in widespread use as the means to create such a device is extremely difficult. There have been attempts to duplicate the device through other processes, but the result brings about a lesser product.

Creator: The original Millivox was created by the Pathfinders of the Order of the Way.

How it works:
The basic process involves the harvesting of a crystal as the object of communication. It is then divided into the number pieces requested. Each piece can receive and relay a persons voice through to the other pieces thus enabling remote communication. The crystal pieces can then be transformed and sculpted into the appropriate jewelry if requested, such as necklaces, earings or bracelets. From there, a special treatment is performed on the objects to enable voice projection.

While any person can speak into the device, it can only be activated by someone adept in spirit energy manipulation. Over the years, some means have been developed to enable non-SE users to use it. Their use has been recorded to not have any limits on the distance.

Other:
After it has undergone its treatments, if any single piece is destroyed all pieces will lose the ability to communicate with each other. The remaining pieces can be assembled again for treatment and be made anew.

Some variants are recorded to have defects such as, one way communication, limited piece relay. limited range.

Elemental Sails
OIP.WUQlwkTi1FIcwTdlRhKt8gHaIM.jpg

Type: Object
Category: Transportation

Historical Aspect:

Since time immemorial, when individuals desired to cross the vastness of the oceans, humans used large swaths of cloth to capture the energy and power of the wind. When they conquered the sea, and the skies were opened to them, the use of the Sail continued into the heavens. The refinement of such a technology lead to the birth of elemental sails, which not only use the physical force of the wind, but the natural spirit energy from the air itself.

How it works:

Traditional sails were made with light weight materials, such as linen, hemp, cotton. When these sails were augmented with special material such as vindur bear hides or Mystherbe leaves they were capable of capturing the spirit energy of the wind, increasing its efficiency 10 fold. This has lead to the near extinction of vindur bears in many parts of the world and creation of mystherbe farms.

Impeller Engine
Impeller Engine.jpg

Type: Object
Category: Transportation

Historical Aspect:

The Impeller Engine is a alternate form of propulsion to Airships and Sea Vessels apart from the general Elemental Sails. Derived from the Steam engine of locomotives to rotate the metallic blades in a turbine housing, the Impeller can ease the flow of the medium its in ( Air or Water ) as well as propel with force. The most efficient engine is capable of increasing the speed of a vessel by 3 times the maximum of elemental sails.

Impeller Engines came about during the advent of the airship. At that time engineers were looking to devise a means of faster sea travel as the airship technology was still in its infancy and not propagated as it is today. It is only in the last 2 decades that airships began to house these engines. Due to the limited Mass lifting capabilities of Levistones, it took years to engineer lightweight impellers and their engines without hindering the levitation height.

As a result of this lighter materials, the compromise was structural integrity. A well placed shot in battle would result in the total loss of the impellers and a possible explosion that may result in severe damage to the entire ship. Running on the same principles as Steam, the engines can be rather loud and will exhaust steam.

How it works:
Although it is called Impeller engines, operates similar to steam engines. The fuels to burn and create the necessary steam pressure can come from Wood, Coal or the more popular fuel, Magmite.
