The past three months were one of great productivity for the Romano’s. Vinnie had been right, the elimination of the Sullivans have proven quite effective. And today was the day Angel would be returning, full force. He had given Angel very strict instructions on how to dissapear, and what he could do to help benefit the buisness while he was on leave. And he had done everything he had asked, which aided his newly assigned work.

Lorenzo was now in charge of all drug aspects, which suited him quite well. The Cartel was looking for a more northern approach, which meant cheap shipments from Texas came weekly to a warehouse in Romano territory. Then goons would distribute it evenly, and fifty percent of all profits were sent to the Romano’s...

Lorenzo currently sat in Vinnie’s Office, next to the large hearth. He was glancing over a few sets of paperwork from his contact in Amarillo, which were in Spanish. Flipping a page, he clicked his pen, crossing out a word he didn’t quite agree with.

(Oh and I didn't change her hair color cuz I can't part with her blondeXD)

"Miss?" The cab driver called to her, having repeated himself about 5 times before Lucy finally responded. "Hmm?" Lucy asked looking up from her lap. "We are here." The driver informed her before looking at her like she was absolutely loony. Biting her lip, Lucy saw the home she grew up in and the last place she had been last time she was in Chicago. It had been months since she saw the home, and it wasn't as comforting as she would have thought. Sighing inwardly, Lucy handed the man the cash he needed before getting out and grabbing her luggage. The taxi sped off in pursuit of another customer while Lucy stood at the end of the driveway, just staring at the home.

A lot had crossed her mind on the train ride back, and she was questioning herself all over again. Lucy had left her family when they needed her most, would they even want to see her? Would they let her back inside the home? There was so much that was unsure about this reunion that Lucy had almost bailed out at the train station when it arrived in the familiar city. Her family and James never left her mind in the months that she was away, the city never slept and neither did Lucy. Her mind kept her up with worries and anxieties of never seeing her family again, not because she wouldn't return home...but because she was sure they wouldn't accept her back in.

"Stop being such a fucking baby." Lucy mutter to herself, pulling her coat closer to her as her feet began carrying her towards the front door. Lucy was a different woman than before. She had experienced what life actually was in New York, struggled and did some things that her mother and sister would frown on. It hardened her in a way, being just a toy to men made one that way...especially when there was only one man on her mind. James probably wouldn't speak to her again, she was expecting that. She had broken his heart and wasn't there to pick up the pieces like he had been for her. Lucy wouldn't be surprised if he found someone else.

Her heart pounded so hard in her chest as she stood only a few feet from the door now, feeling as though it would leap from her chest and splatter into the snow. Raising a hand, she hesitated to knock on the door. This was once her home too...but it didn't feel that way anymore. Should she knock? Or should she just enter? After a long pause, she grabbed the door handle and opened the door quietly. But of course, Lady's ears picked up on the noise and she came running into the room. Skidding to a halt, the dog growled at her and began barking loudly, not recognizing her previous owner. It broke Lucy's heart. "Shhh Lady! No!" Lucy tried to hush her, not wanting everyone to see her at once.

Nicolo and Alex remained close after she moved into the apartment, in which he visited her quite often. He knew that she had distanced herself from the family buisness and so tended to keep an eye on her, knowing that leaving is not as easy as just saying your out, while the Sullivans hadnt attacked or retaliated in the last three months he knew they would eventually and he knew that Alex would not be safe either when they did. In the past few months Nicolo and Olivia had grown closer and gone on a couple of more date and Nicolo found himself falling deeper for the girl everytime they hung out. Thats why he freaked out when he realised that he had not planned anything for valentines day which was today. His first stop of the morning was to visit Alex at her morning shift to book a reservation, planning on going to olivias after the meeting in the hotel so to tell her so to give her enough time to get ready for tonight.
After visiting Alex and dropping her home, Nicolo made his way to the hotel, for once he was early as he realised upon entering the office that he was the first to arrive, after his father off course. "Hello" he greeted before taking a seat beside his father

Giovanni "Angel" Gambino

Angel had resided in Sicily over the past few months. He had handled foreign affairs, although he was primarily put there to lose the heat he was gaining from the police. Angel stayed in Savoca, in a hotel overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. He had spent most of his time on the beaches and tropical bars, becoming associated with the Sicilian residents, mostly the women. When it was time to leave, he was almost sad to go. He had spent so much time engulfed in the culture, that it felt weird to speak English.

Once he arrived in Chicago, he had a day to get himself reacquainted. The following, he arrived at Vinnie's hotel. There was one thing he definetly did not miss about a Chicago. He had been spoiled by the beautiful, warm Sicilian weather, only to return to the bitter cold. He arrived at Vinnie's office, happy to see him. He held his hand in a firm handshake before taking one of the many chairs available. "Glad to know things haven't changed since I've been gone."

Sinead sat studying some sheet music Conor had picked up for her earlier that morning. He'd been on at her to get her job back at the fancy restaurant and she was warming to the idea. She'd only have to play the piano and greet the guests, so she knew it wouldn't be so bad. She loved singing but she couldn't bring herself to stand up on a stage and do it. The last time she'd sung to an audience was her dad's birthday and she still wasn't ready to let go of that. It was her last happy memory with the man, so she didn't want to share it with strangers yet.

Sinead was distracted by the dragging noise she could hear outside. She rushed to the window and discreetly peered outside to see Lucy dragging her case towards the house. Unsure of how to feel, she rushed to the back of the house and found herself hiding out in the conservatory, where her mother tended to go for peace and quiet. She sat in one of the chairs with her feet up to her chest as she nervously chewed on her fingernail. She wasn't prepared for this and didn't want to react impulsively.

James Porter

The men were all in the office whilst Conor went over some of the books with them. "It's only one case short," he reasoned as he discussed the last delivery of spirits to one of his pubs. "They've never been short before."

"So?" James asked. He got up from his seat and rounded the table so he could look at the paperwork Conor was seeing. "And if it's short again next time? It's not much, but let them do it once and they'll think they can short change you again. He should reimburse you for it and throw in a free case for the trouble. Just because he's a friend, doesn't mean-" James was cut off as he heard Lady barking in the hallway. He let out an irritated sigh at the distraction, but the dog had been trained to bark at strangers.

"Your dog, your responsibility, mate," Conor said, smirking at James.

James left the office and walked down the hallway in the direction of the front door. "Lady, come on, gir-" he began. His smile dropped when he saw the familiar blonde woman standing in the entrance area. Lady rushed over to James and looked up at him, tongue hanging out of her mouth as she panted. Other than his smile disappearing, James' face would appear straight and free of emotion. "You're h- Your brother is in his office. I'll tell him you're here," he said, giving her a single nod before walking away. He wasn't sure how to feel about seeing the only woman he had ever loved return unannounced. It wasn't that he didn't expect her to return one day, but he kept telling himself it would not be today. He needed to let this sink in. As he re-entered the office, the others turned to him and he motioned towards the front door. "Lucy's home," he announced to her brother and cousins.

Conor rose from his seat the moment he heard Lucy was back. He'd been upset when she left, but he'd told himself it was her way of dealing with the loss and he kept an open mind. As the time went on and she missed Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, he told the family to accept she wasn't coming home. Despite accepting that idea, hearing she was back brought a smile to his face. He knew what James had gone through, so he didn't think ill of the man as he sat back in his seat rather than going back out to speak to Lucy. Conor patted James on the shoulder before leaving his office, expecting Finn and Aidan might follow.

"Sic 'em, Lady!" Conor playfully shouted out as he saw Lucy at the bottom of the stairs. "Where the bloody hell have you been?" he asked her, though there was a smile on his face. "Come here," he said, outstretching his arms to give her a warm Conor hug. She might have caused a lot of upset by leaving the family, but she was still family and he could never reject blood.

Vinnie waited for those invited to arrive, sending a friendly smile to his son and cousin when they arrived. When Angel entered the room, Vinnie returned the man's handshake and grinned at his comment. "What do you mean? I stopped shaving, I'll have you know," he remarked. "How was the vacation? Did you find me the names and numbers of any single Sicilian women?" he joked.

Once the casual talk was done with, Vinnie decided to get to business, figuring they all probably had better places they wanted to be at. He knew for sure Nicolo would be wanting to go off to flirt with Olivia. "So, Lorenzo. How is business going in your area? Anything we should be concerned about?" he asked.

Finn's life changed a lot over the last few months. He was now taking care of the pub along with Luca, so that was keeping him busy most of the time. But along with that, he was involved in other family business affairs and was there to counsel Conor when he needed it. With him and James watching over him and keeping him sane, the trio could be unstoppable. Finn had been surprised when Lucy bailed on them the night Emmet died, but he believed that there had to have been a good reason. The family took it hard with the absence of the two family members, especially on the holidays. But when Lucy didn't return home and everyone finally accepted Emmet's death, things began to run more smoothly and they even had fun once in a while.

Finn was listening to the James and Conor as they went back and forth about business when Lady began barking, signaling that there was a stranger at the door. Finn raised an eyebrow but said nothing as James went to see who was at the door. Moments he returned and announced that Lucy had returned sending both Conor and Finn to their feet. Looking at James, he tried to read the man's always serious expression but couldn't get a clear read on how he felt. However, as Conor, Aidan and himself began heading to greet her, James stayed behind. Finn figured that the man was hurt, who wouldn't be after all?

As they walked into the room Lucy looked the same, but somehow different. There was heavy bags under her eyes and she looked thinner than she had once been. But regardless of how she looked, Finn placed a warm smile on his face as Conor welcomed her home. Finn looked to Aidan and wondered what he thought about this. Finn wondered if Lucy would reveal why she left to them.

Lucy had tried to shush the barking dog but it was no use, the poor girl didn't recognize her and she immediately felt bad about that fact. A familiar voice sounded around the corner and Lucy's eyes glanced up to see James. He stopped talking when he saw her, and the smile that had been meant for the pup disappeared almost instantly. He was about to acknowledge that she was home when he suddenly switched to telling her that he would fetch her brother. Lucy's face fell and she watched the man quickly retreat back towards the office. Lucy looked down at the tile on the ground and wondered if it had been foolish to return. A few moments later, a booming voice made her jump slightly and she turned to see her brother smiling as if she hadn't even left.

He walked down the stairs with Aidan and Finn trailing behind him. He asked her where she's been and Lucy couldn't help but smile slightly, "...New York." She told her brother and fell into his arms for one of his famous bear hugs. The comforting warmth and acceptance of her brother helped soothe the sting of rejection from the only man she ever truly loved. "Its great to see you again..."

Lorenzo eyed Angel as he waltzed in, the Italian sun clearly doing its number on the man. He would’ve preferred Tuscany personally, a bias opinion it may be, but Sicily was nice also.

Flipping to the last page, his eyes read the page while his ears listened to Vinnie converse breifly. Looking up from the paper when mentioned, he removed his reading glasses, and adjusted himself in the chair in order to face the two men.

Buisness is booming! My pawn in Texas has finally sealed the deal, and the third shipment of product should be here tomorrow. I’ll do a quality control, then it will be properly distributed. But with the new product our buyers are making us almost double than what you made before.” His emerald eyes did a brief once-over of Angel, followed by a smirk. “I see the lovely folks in Italy did a number on you... Glad to see my vacation to you was effective.”

Conor released Lucy from the hug and looked to his couple with the smile still fixed on his face. "What on Earth did you find to do in New York this whole time? And don't they have food over there? You look like you need to eat," he told her. Having had to watch Sinead starve herself before her breakdown, he was hyper-vigilant to watching out for the warning signs from his younger sister and this made him notice that his older sister appeared thinner.

There was a question on the tip of Conor's tongue that most of them had been wondering for some time. "Why did you leave, Lucy?" he seriously asked her. "We were all so worried about you and we missed you."

Lucy had missed her brother so very much that when he let go of her, she was saddened slightly. Looking up at him as he questioned what she did that entire time in New York she was hesitant to answer. The work she did in New York was not what any proper or classy woman would do. But it seemed she was neither of those things anymore. Her eyes looked down at the tile. "Its a bit of a long story." She murmured to him. One question came right after the other. Glancing up, she also didn't know how to answer this question she knew would be asked of her. She had thought about it in her head, what she should say to them all. Not that any of it was an excuse.

Looking between Finn and Aidan then to Conor, she sighed. "If I told you...you would hate me for the rest of our lives...but..." She bit her lip and wondered if it was a good idea to tell him. He was her brother after all, and if he didn't hate her completely now, she would hope that he never would. "We...should sit down for this..."

Aidan Sullivan

Through the three months since Emmet's death, things have slightly gotten better. Aidan was appointed as a messenger/hijacker/supplier. The young man was better since the death of his dear uncle. There was a time in which he just stayed in his room for hours on end. That lasted for about three weeks until James and the others talked some sense into the boy. His uncle wouldn't have wanted him to be moping around. It was the funeral that made him want to move on though. Aidan will never truly get over his uncle's death but he could look forward to the future.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aidan was sitting in the office with Conor, James, and Finn as they discussed business. In the midst of their conversation, Aidan heard the familiar sound of Lady barking. He chuckled at James's reaction. When James came back, the sudden news of Lucy returning shocked him. An eyebrow raised, he arose from his seat soon after Conor. He missed having the woman around the house. Without Lucy, it felt like a piece of the Sullivans was missing. He followed Conor to the stairs. Aidan walked downstairs, a big smile appearing on his face.
"Luce! We missed you blondie." He exclaimed.

When Conor asked what happened and why she left, Aidan realized he wanted to know as well. What had made the woman leave?

Athena Archer

tumblr_on2vwhTvbE1v57wwfo1_500.png

After the big disaster that night at the restaurant, Athena left with Leo. Truth be told, it was very insensitive of Angel to describe the details of Emmet's death in front of Leo who had lost his own father not too long ago. Through these past three months, Athena has kept herself occupied with school, her job at the bar, and of course Leo. When the kind man revealed his feelings to her, the girl returned the feelings. So far, being with Leo made the young woman exceptionally happy. He was a very sweet man and Thena enjoyed his company very much. At the moment, hand-holding and little pecks on the cheek/forehead are the furthest the two have gotten. There has been no official first kiss quite yet. Leo was the only man that Athena has been with and she was a little shy about kisses at the moment.

Athena has kept contact with Alex, visiting her at her apartment quite frequently. Athena would always stick by the girl's side even if thing with Vinnie weren't the best currently. As for herself, Thena still had a relationship with Vinnie. She hated the business he was in but she didn't have it in her to reject her second father. Thena was very wary of Angel, preferring to keep her distance from the man.

Athena managed to gain a second job at the Crystal Ballroom as a singer. This job paid a lot more than the bar. However Athena still remained, deciding to keep two jobs for the moment.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Athena awoke from her sleep to something soft on her face. The girl hasn't been able to get much sleep as of late being as she juggled having two jobs and she had to keep with schoolwork. Thankfully, Athena did not have to sing at the bar nor Crystal Ballroom tonight so she manged to get a ton of sleep in.

She was met with the sight of her beloved canines and her cat. "Good morning guys. " Thena spoke in her tired, raspy voice. Their wide eyes stared at her. "Oh, I'm getting up." She told her animals as she sat up, yawning while she did so. Athena arose, her bare feet feeling the marble floor of her bedroom. The girl moved into a new apartment about a month ago, one that allowed those dogs she loved matte of fact. She then headed to the kitchen. The young woman fixed the four furry animals their food. They munched happily as she headed to the main room. Athena raised an eyebrow as she noticed the dozen of roses on the coffee table. Athena walked towards the table, taking the roses in her hands. Could these be from Leo?

The girl noticed a card, she picked it up, opening and carefully reading the words inside. A smile came upon he lips as she read, her suspicions were right. A happy smile appeared on her lips whilst she set the roses down, placing them in a flower pot. That man was the most sweetest person ever.

Athena glanced at the clock, it was the afternoon. Athena headed upstairs and got herself cleaned up. She headed back downstairs and fixed herself a quick sandwich, sitting on the tan sofa as she watched the television. Seeing as she had a day-off, she wasn't quite sure what to d with herself. She hoped that Leo would come by, seeing as it was Valentine's Day.

The girl curled up, Foxe, Azura, and Indie on her lip, while Echo was laying down near the couch.
She turned to the news channel. Today, there were reporting on people suddenly going missing, then warning other not to wander around late at night. Biting her lip, Athena turned the channel, not wanting to be paranoid tonight.

Conor noticed how Lucy was hesitant about telling him what she'd been doing in New York and he wasn't sure if he wanted secrets as soon as she'd returned. With regards to why she had gone, it seemed she was reluctant to answer and her reasons may not go down well, but it seemed like she was going to explain herself and she suggested they sit down for it.

"Come on..." he said, walking with her into the lounge, along with Finn and Aidan. He noticed the sheet music Sinead had left behind on the sofa and he picked it up, leaving it on top of the piano. He wondered where she had got to but figured she was still around the house somewhere as her coat had still been hung in by the front door. He sat down on the sofa and looked to Lucy. "Come on then. Tell us," he softly told her.

Lucy smiled to Aidan and Finn nodding her head in greetings, "I miss you both as well." She murmured feeling as though she couldn't be casual at the moment, feeling beyond awkward to be in the house. Following Conor with her head down, she decided to sit in the chair farthest away from all of them as she was about to tell her story and the reasoning behind why she left. She felt the farther she sat, the less intense their horrified stares would be once she was done.

"Well.." Looking around, she noticed that Sinead's sheet music was sitting on the couch and Conor picking it up.."She's avoiding me." She said softly and looked down at the carpet. Her eyes traced the patterns for a few more moments before finally deciding it was best to be honest and just get it all out in the open. "I went to New York to escape from Angel..." She started lightly. "A-a week before father's birthday...I had followed Sinead out one night after she seemed upset. His fucking goons stole me away in a van and took me to a vacant restaurant, he was waiting with dinner for himself and wine for the both of us. I knew not to drink the wine....but what he told me was so frustrating and frightening that I ended up drinking it. He told me that if I didn't follow his exact plans...he would have father killed. " Looking between the men, she struggled to get out the next bit.

It had been months since it happened but Lucy hadn't been able to get over her intense anger towards Angel. "The fucker lied to me. He used me as a pawn in his game to kill our father....I fell for it and told no one." Lucy looked up at her brother, her eyes pleading for forgiveness and mercy. "I left to protect you all, if I left, he couldn't use me anymore. I was weak of the mind and he took advantage of everything I had." Now she avoided her brother's gaze and stared at the family picture that was hanging above him, her father's smiling face was burning a hole in her heart. "Its not an excuse, none of it...I shouldn't have left you all...I just...couldn't lose anyone else and if that meant I had to leave in order for that to be so...I'm so sorry Conor..." She finished continued to stare at her father's face in the picture above him.

Finn stared at the girl as she revealed all of this, not knowing exactly how to take it. He faintly recalled that she was talking about a male the night Emmet had died and wondered if Angel was that man. His eyes widened and he looked to Conor wondering what the hell he thought of all of this. Finn was really in no position to tell her if she was right or wrong, she had felt like she was endangering the family and so she left...but Conor might see it differently, especially the part where she didn't tell anyone that Angel had planned the party. But could she really have told someone? He observed Conor closely, emotionally he was doing better than ever...but this news might change that.

Conor Sullivan

When Lucy pointed out that Sinead was avoiding her, Conor nodded his head. "She went through Hell after dad died. She probably doesn't know how to feel about you being home." Conor listened as Lucy explained that she went to New York to escape Angel. Then she went on to explain that he'd blackmailed her, threatening to kill their father if she didn't go along with his plan. Conor wasn't sure he understood what she was saying. But then when she noted Angel had used her to get their father killed it started to make sense. "You let us all go to that party knowing Angel was planning something? You trusted him to keep his word rather than tell us he'd made threats?" He shook his head. "James and I could have been killed too. Any of our family could have been shot."

Conor wanted to shout at her and let out some of the anger he'd locked away months ago. He knew Angel was good at playing mind games and could perhaps accept she was a fool to fall for it. He just couldn't believe she was unable to confide in the family - they'd always been close and honest with each other. "You shouldn't have left us, Lucy. You should have told us the truth like we all used to in the past. I don't like this one bit," he said, shaking his head. "When our father was killed, it triggered so many changes and now I'm in charge of this family. I'm the one who has to keep everyone together and make sure we''re all safe." He knew his father would have forgiven her, the same way he forgave Conor for his mistakes. "This is a fresh start and we're going to put what you just told me behind us. No more lies. If any Romanos threaten you or even speak to you, I want to know. I can't do this if my own family keeps things from me. Are we clear?" he sternly asked Lucy.

Conor was furious on the inside but it was aimed towards Angel. Following his father's death, Conor wanted to go out and kill as many Romanos as he could. But James had talked him down and forced him to see reason, to focus on healing the family and maintaining business. The plan worked for them, but Conor still imagined getting his revenge on them.

Lucy knew her brother would react this way. She knew that he had every right to be angry with her, hell they all had a reason to be angry with her. Angel had tricked her into believing that he would keep his word, but she believed him more out of fear. Lucy wasn't prepared for the whirlwind that was Giovanni Gambino and his alter ego. But when Conor began to tell her about what she should have done and what had changed when their father was killed, she realized that he wasn't screaming at her like he probably should have.

Biting her lip, she nodded her head as he said that they were going to put this all behind them. Lucy's guilt still ate away at her, but after dealing with the struggles in New York, she felt like she had punished herself enough for what she had done to the family. "No more lies....I swear it." She murmured softly before sighing and looking down at the bag she had rolled into the lounge area with her. She knew that it wouldn't make up for anything but Lucy didn't want to keep all of the money that she had earned and she had some holidays to make up for. "Well if this is going to be a fresh start...I believe I have something for You,Carrick, Sinead...and James." She had paused briefly before saying her ex lovers name not sure if she was allowed to even mention the man she still loved.

Grabbing the bag, she unzipped the luggage and grabbed out another bag that contained at least 4,000 dollars in it. "I know I wasn't there for the holidays...but you all didn't leave my mind." She also pulled out a few other items. One of them was a crystal beer mug lined with gold around the brim and had the New York City skyline delicately etched into the crystal. "Here." She said standing and handing him both the bag containing the 4,000 dollars and the beer mug. "This doesn't make up for it...but this could be a start...There is a 1,000 in there for each of you.." She also had a music box that she had made for Sinead with her favorite song that played and little figures that twirled around on the top of it. "And don't even think about denying the money, I don't need all of it."

Carrick hadn't been acting like his normal self when he had returned home after his father death. During the first week he had just locked himself out only coming out for food during lunch, after that he would had been found praying on his father room, asking for forgiveness or sometimes following his mother Shannon like a lost child. Eventually it became time for him to go back to school, specially his day of college. He had been afraid to even step out of the house, but eventually he had gone to start his college at Texas.

But with everything that had happened, his father and his sister leaving the household, he had decided to drop out. But he hadn't gone back, during the time there, he had gone to other places to learn how to defend himself. He had learned from former policeman's how to wield a gun, he had done everything in order to be ready to kill the person who had killed his father. Carrick wasn't playing anymore, he had deny involving himself in anything that involved the Romano's and his family, but killing his father, no he wasn't going to stand still for that.

When Carrick had returned back to Sullivan's household two days ago, he had spent most of his time staring at the room where his father slept. This was a reminder to him that he had never forgiven him for the harsh life he had grown, his life always being on the life and being protected by bodyguards.

Now Carrick could be found staring outside the window of his room, thinking about what he was going to do now. He hadn't told anyone he had dropped out, he hadn't told anyone what he had done after dropping out and he as sure as hell, hadn't spoken with Sinead and asked for her forgiveness. Now more than ever the family needed to be together, and he was going to go find Lucy if he had to and drag her back here. When he heard footsteps going out of the room, Carrick had confused but he had decided to follow where it lead to and to his surprise it was Lucy coming back. Carrick didn't say anything at all, even when she brought money for them or some stuff as souvenir, no, he had just stood besides Sinead with an expressionless face while inside, inside he was happy that she was safe.

Conor looked curiously as Lucy began unzipping her luggage. When she handed him to beer mug and the cash, he quickly shook his head, not wanting to take the money. But she made it clear he wasn't allowed to deny it, so he accepted it and would put it away to spend on personal items rather than putting it into the business. "Thank you. I'll accept it, but don't you be giving away all of your money, Lucy. You don't need to do this." Conor looked towards the doorway to see Carrick standing there and Sinead had just joined him. "Sinead? Carrick?" he asked, sending them a reassuring smile, hoping to get them to join them in the lounge.

"Why would I need your money?" Sinead finally spoke up, staying by the doorway. Her tone would seem cold but her eyes reflected the sadness and longing she'd had for her sister. "Your money isn't going to make the last few months any better. Dad was killed. Conor was shot," she said, pointing to her brother. "I needed my sister but you left. You abandoned us and left us to struggle without you. You can keep the money or you can throw it on the fire to keep the lounge warm. I'm not touching it."

Conor bit his lip as he watched Sinead walk away and head upstairs. "She doesn't mean it," he reassured Lucy. He took the music box from his older sister and studied it before placing it back in her hand. "Go and talk to Sinead, deep down she's glad you're home. Trust me. Leave the money, just take the present." Conor would then look to his brother who had not long ago arrived in the room. "Are you alright, mate?" he asked him.

Lucy was not expecting the outburst from Sinead, mostly because she hadn't noticed she was standing to the side until Conor pointed both her and Carrick out. The old Lucy would have broken into tears and begged for her sister's forgiveness almost immediately. But the girl faced her sister with an emotionless expression, her words stabbing into her like knives. "Sinead!" Lucy called to her as she took off towards her room and Conor looked to Lucy and told her that their sister didn't mean any of it.

Lucy took the music box before heading towards the stairs. Walking up it slowly until she came to a stop by Sinead's door, standing in the door way. "Sin..." She murmured softly and stared at her sister. "I am well aware of what I did to you...and I know I hurt you...but please, try to just understand and listen to me. Look at this..." Lucy stepped into the room before opening the music box, Sin's favorite song twinkling delicately in the silence. "I did what I thought I had to...in order to keep you safe. I never stopped thinking about you." Lucy felt weak and decided it was time to sit once more. "You have no idea how hard it was, to stay away from all of you. New York is shit, I do not recommend it to anyone..."

Lucy looked down at the music box as the two little figurines danced in circles, not seeming to have a care in the world. "You don't have to take the money...its dirty money really. "She shrugged, not going into details quite yet on how she earned it. "But I would like it if you could at least accept this music box. I love you Sinead, you are my little sister, my only sister."

Sinead was sat on her bed with her legs crossed and her back leaning against the headboard. She looked to the door when Lucy arrived and softly spoke her name. When her sister showed her the music box, opening it out and letting it play, tears rolled down Sinead's cheek. She watched the two figurines spinning around as her favourite piece of music played. Lucy then sat on the bed near to her and told her it had been hard staying away and that she didn't like New York. She nodded in agreement when Lucy said she didn't have to take the money, but she reached her hand out to accept the music box. "Thank you," she whispered.

"I love you too, Luce," she said, wiping her tears onto her sleeve. "I'm sorry New York wasn't nice. I had to stay in the hospital for a few weeks and that was awful too. The doctors weren't very nice and they didn't let me do anything I wanted and they wouldn't let me see any of our brothers or cousins. I thought I'd never be allowed to leave that place." She sighed. "You should have gone to Ireland. Mum took me there for a little bit too, but really I just wanted to come home. Will you stay now?"

Lucy shook her head softly, brushing off her apology about New York not being nice. "It wasn't meant to be nice, it wasn't my permanent home." She murmured softly and gave her sister a sad frown as she explained her experience with the hospital. Lucy felt terrible that she hadn't been there for her younger sister when she was so ill. Her emotions always had a way of consuming her and Lucy hadn't been there to help her. "I'm so sorry Sin, I know its been hard for you with everything that's been going on. But I promise that we will be able to hopefully better from all of this." It was hard to express such touchy feelings with her sister in that moment, not sure what was acceptable and what wasn't so she gently patted her hand and offered her a small smile. "I'm not going anywhere...I promise. I have had my taste of what it is like without you all and I don't ever want to live life like that."

"But I'm glad I found the music box when I was there." She murmured softly and looked at the trinket in Sinead's hands. "New York was a shit city, with some terrible people...but they weren't all bad. I lived above the man who created this music box for me. A little Russian old man, he had a dog named harry, and I would walk the dog for him a few times a day before I had to work my shifts at the club. That was one of the ways he paid me." That was the brief friendliness that she had gotten in New York besides her roommate of course, and some of the girls at the club.

Sinead nodded her head as Lucy said she knew it had been hard for her. As her sister gently patted her hand, Sinead took hold of her hand and softly squeezed it. "I'm glad you're going to stay. We all want you here and not in New York or anywhere else. I'm sure James agrees." Sinead hadn't missed that James hadn't been in the lounge greeting Lucy.

"I'm glad you found the music box too, it's really pretty," she assured her. "Harry? That's a people name, not a dog name," she remarked. "But it sounds like you had a nice place to stay. Did you make some new friends?" she curiously asked. "I'm sorry, I just feel like I haven't been able to talk to you for so long. I know you need to catch up with everyone," she told her. "How was James with you? He's been all old and grumpy again since you left, but he's been trying to help me. I'm learning how to defend myself so I don't have to have a babysitter whenever I go anywhere. James has been trying to teach me, but you know I'm the most awkward student," she noted.

Lucy let Sinead take her hand and squeeze it softly, the uncertainty of how to comfort her was now melting away. Lucy's face fell slightly but she tried to hide the hurt in her eyes. Sinead may have thought that James wanted Lucy here, but the way he acted with her at the front door had proven otherwise. No greeting, no emotions, not even acknowledging her arrival with anger, which she would have rather had than him ignoring her like he was. The pain in her chest was breathtaking but she remain calm on her exterior. Sinead asked multiple questions about her time in New York, but she soon apologized and continued to ask how James had been with her. Biting her lip, she listened to Sinead as she told her about James teaching her how to shoot a gun. To this, Lucy couldn't help but raise one eyebrow in slight amusement. Her sister always wanted nothing to do with the damned things and now she was learning to shoot one.

Lucy had learned quite a few things hanging around the girls in New York. Believe it or not, that city was in worse shape gang wise than this city. Which if Lucy would have known that she would have steered clear. But the men who normally came into the club were sleazy gang members who made both of their gangs in Chicago look like childs play. In her short time in the big city, Lucy had been forced to protect herself more than once at this club. Being followed home, or men would try to break the rules in the private showing rooms, forcing her to retaliate. Most of the women carried some sort of gun or knife on their person's or within their private showing rooms. "Well if you get frustrated with old man James, you can always come to me and i could teach you a thing or two. A few of my girl friends had taught me a few things, New York was like here...gangs everywhere." Lucy informed Sinead. "It seems to follow wherever I go." Finally she decided to face the elephant in the room, "James....didn't really talk to me. I mean he did, but he only informed me that he would get Conor before turning and leaving. I haven't seen him since." She murmured softly and she let her expression fall slightly. Looking down she confessed something to her sister then, "I really thought I was going to marry him someday you know...I fucked it all up."

With everyone leaving the office to greet Lucy, James was left alone in the room with Lady. The dog sat by his feet as if waiting for something to happen, having now got quite excited by Lucy showing up at the house. "You can have another walk later," he said, straightening out her collar. Realising everyone was too distracted to conclude the meeting for now, James got up and started scanning across some of the figures again, checking the rest added up. It was no use, though as he couldn't fight the fact that Lucy's return had distracted him too. He thought if she ever returned he wouldn't hesitate to give her a piece of his mind for leaving her family to deal with Emmet's death and missing the man's funeral. He admitted to himself he was feeling like this for his own reasons, because she'd gone from telling him how much she cared about him to just leaving and staying away for so long. In the space of a few hours he had gone from Emmet practically giving him his approval to marry Lucy to losing both of them, but only one of them had died.

*********

Sinead managed a bright smile when Lucy said she'd teach her a thing or two about dealing with James. "I'd say James is more frustrated with me. I argue with everything he tells me to do, even though I know he's going to get me to do it anyway. I'm only doing this stuff because it's the only way Conor will let me go out without a bodyguard." When Lucy mentioned New York was even worse than here, Sinead frowned. "Why is everywhere so awful?" she rhetorically asked. "At least you're home safe now."

Sinead looked down to her lap when Lucy said she thought she'd marry James one day. Now that was so sad to Sinead. "I find it very upsetting to think you two have lost all of that," she admitted. She then shuffled closer, placing a hand on Lucy's shoulder and kissing her sister on the cheek. "You two looked so happy together, too." Suddenly she jumped up off the bed and took Lucy's hand. "I have an idea. Come on...." Sinead didn't give Lucy much choice and dragged her by the hand back down the stairs. "Wait here," she said, leaving Lucy standing at the bottom of the staircase. Sinead disappeared into the lounge where the others were.

Before Sinead returned, James approached Lucy. "Shall we talk, then?" he seriously asked her. He wasn't one to run away from his problems or from getting things off his chest, so he was disappointed he'd done so when Lucy first arrived. He was just so confused and that rarely happened to him, which confused him even more.

It didn't matter if Lucy agreed or not, Conor suddenly appeared. "Lucy, James, in my office, right now," he ordered them. He wasn't giving them a choice in the matter. Conor let them both enter the room ahead of him. Instead of joining them in the office, Conor pulled the door shut and locked it from the outside. "Don't bother whinging at me to let you out. You're staying in there until I decide to let you out." Conor placed the key in his pocket and returned to the lounge.

"Conor!" James shot back, but knew the lad would stick to his words. James turned to face Lucy and motioned towards the sofa which Lady was curled up on the floor next to. "I was about to talk anyway. He didn't need to lock us in here together," James explained. He took two empty glasses from the nearby cabinet. "Drink?" he asked her, holding up the bottle of vodka. Once drinks were poured, he sat on the sofa next to Lucy, leaving some space between them. "First things first, so there's no confusion. I am glad to see you're alive and well," he noted. She looked tired, but her beauty was still with her, no matter how much he'd tried not to notice. "I always thought I'd know exactly what to say if I ever saw you again, as I spent so long thinking about it after you'd left. The last night I saw you, Emmet had welcomed me into your family and at that point I could see myself spending my life with you. Then, bam! You took off without warning. I gave you the benefit of the doubt, you were grieving. But the weeks passed and you still didn't return." He shook his head and looked Lucy in the eyes, trying to gauge if she even felt anything for him anymore. "Why? Why did you leave like that? And what the Hell kept you away for so long?" he firmly asked her.

Conor looked to his watch and worked out he had a few hours to spare. He excused himself from the lounge, telling the others he was heading out and would catch them at the Emerald later in the evening. Once he was in his room, Conor began dialling one of the telephone numbers he had stored in his mind. He his a personal phoneline in his room and also a private, untraceable line installed in his office. This was a personal call, so Alex would hear her phone ring as she sat in her apartment. "Good afternoon, Alex. Is now a good time?" he asked her, by which she would know his question was whether she was alone or not. "That's great. Get your coat on and be outside the clock tower in 40 minutes," he told her. After ending the call, he put on his overcoat and made sure to place a gun in the inside pocket and a small box in another.

Alex would have to wait a couple of minutes for Conor to arrive. As she stood by the clock tower she would feel something hit her in the middle of the back, but if she turned around she would realised it had been a snowball. Conor would step out from behind the wall, grinning to himself. He'd made sure not to hit her in the hair or face, he knew how touchy some girls got about that. "What a shot!" he called out to her, chuckling as he approached. This was his time to switch off from business and right now he needed to switch off from what he'd learned about the night his father had died.

Vinnie listened to Lorenzo as he updated him on his side of the business. "Ah, well that's excellent news," he told his cousin. "I'll leave it in your hands to ensure the operation keeps running smoothly and the profits keep coming in."

When Vinnie sat forward, he glanced to everyone around the room. "Things with the Sullivans have be quiet since you left, Angel. They've been expanding their businesses and keeping their existing ones going, but nothing that affects us enough to act. I would even go as far as to suggest Conor may have learned his lesson and ceased trying to get a rise out of me. We've not become complacent, but I'm giving them distance for the time-being. Besides which, we have others to deal with," he said, his voice going a little louder as he now made sure everyone was listening. "The Dumitrus made be becoming a cause for concern," he said, referring to a small Eastern European gang. "I don't care about the nightclubs they have around the city as they don't cause any loss to us. But I believe they've been intercepting some of our alcohol shipments and could well be trying to step into the gambling sector without giving me my cut. I've made it clear to all gangs that casinos belong to the Romanos. I already warned Mr Dumitru about this but I'm suspicious it's fallen of deaf ears. I'll know more in a day or two, but we may need to deal with them before they start to become an issue."

Carrick hadn't even spoken to Lucy at all when she had looked his way. He wasn't sure how he felt now toward her, sure he wanted the family back but she had left when everything was going down hall after losing their father. When Sinead had run to her room, he had wanted to go at least comfort her but he had just shook his head and kept on staring at them. It wasn't until Lucy had run after SInny and Conor had spoken to him, that he had said something. "I would had yes a few months back but right now at this time, after so long.... No I'm not." He had responded before sitting down on a lounge chair. He had stayed there the whole time not paying attention when the others had left or when Sinead came back. He was just staring at the ceiling. "First Sinny left and came back, now its Lucy who did the same thing, next thing I know it will be Conor or mother." He said to himself while closing his eyes. "Pathetic."
