Strengths: Charming, good with computers, good with people, lots of money, persuasive
Weaknesses: Can be self-centered, judgmental, smoking problem
Personality: Business like and straight-to-the-point, he doesn't enjoy small talk but he'll tolerate it, and his charm coupled with his knack for understanding advanced technology is what landed him the exceptional opportunity he has today. He has a lot of pride but manages to conceal that fact in interviews, understanding the world looks for a humble man rather than a successful man.
Background: He grew up in a small town. All his life he was the top of every class, mildly bullied in school but mainly people tolerated him in exchange for test answers. He went to college at the age of sixteen and studied technology before launching his own business at the age of eighteen. He was a millionaire by twenty. His success, however, didn't come without making a few enemies along the way - ones both inside and outside of his work. This fact has become even more clear of late, after he invited a few friends, acquaintances, employees, and fellow business owners (may change this list) over to his house, not knowing that one among them would soon be responsible for his death.​

Born to a single mother, Jem had not the happiest of childhoods. All he remembered was walking home from school, stripping off his uniform, immediately helping out his mother’s shop. Emily Sturgess is a kindly woman, who was impossible to hate. Warm hands, warm smile. The two had such close relationship, and he would do anything for her. Sometimes she would cry herself at night, when she thought no one else was looking, and it would break his heart.

Their family is getting better now. Jem graduated recently from a literature degree, he had a lovely girlfriend, his mother is doing well. They moved out of their apartment to a nice, little house. It was not much; they did not have the latest consoles, or all the expensive cars, yet it was nice. All was bright for their little family- until one day Emily Sturgess passed away in an accident. Jem only heard a call, asked to identify her body. Her eyes agape, tilted back as blood dripped from her forehead. That was the last time he had seen his dear mother.

The house felt much emptier now. He had asked his girlfriend to give him space for the time being. All the money meant nothing to him now that she was gone. Those were around a year ago. He sees a psychiatrist now, and is all better. He has begun writing books, now an averagely well-known author of a one-shot thriller novel, 3H. Life has once more, looked up upon him.

Motive: Rumour has it that the Sturgess family used to be wealthy. Rumour has it that Emily Sturgess was the next in line for her family fortune. Rumour has it that a man with the name of Malcolm Alistair came along one day. Rumour has it perhaps his mother’s death was not so accidental after all.

Description: In a horror movie, Jem is that one kid who would hop in all of the clichés, but somehow still make it out alive (for comic relief, perhaps). Opening doors that obviously make weird noises, going straight right into a secret bunker that says NO TRESPASSING- curiosity is his middle name (well, not really, for his middle name is Thomas, but no one talks about that) and will perhaps one day get him killed. People either hate him or love him, Jem has absolutely no sense of boundaries, treats anyone he knows immediately as his friend, is loud and hyper, and would tip out any antique vases within the perimeter. Still, despite all his smiles, his trust is not that easy to acquire, especially in the face of danger. A young boy, thin frame and doe eyes, who did not seem he could even hurt a fly- could a long-term grudge get the better of him?

Possible motive for killing Malcom Alistair: Dr. Harris was researching something that could be a breakthrough in chemistry, and a huge corporation called The Technology and Science Corporation (TechSci Corp for short,) was willing to give a donation to one of the departments. They were planning on giving it to the chemistry department, which would allow Judzia and her team of scientists to keep up their research, when Mr. Alistair came into the picture. The TechSci Corp decided to donate the money to him and his engineers instead.
Skills: Dr. Harris is an extraordinary scientist, one of the best in her field.
Strengths: Judzia is calm under pressure, and is brave and intelligent.
Weaknesses: She can easily lose track of time, and might miss important things, or stay up all night long doing something random.
Personality: Calm, easygoing and introverted.

Backstory: As a child, Judzia liked performing backyard science experiments. She was a lively and outgoing kid, but through the years, she began to become a more introverted and logically thinking person. She loved both physics and chemistry, and it took her a long time to decide which path she wanted to follow. Eventually, she made up her mind about it, and studied for years until she got a doctorate in chemistry. Since then, she's practically lived in her lab, staying up all night almost every night to work on whatever project she happens to be on that day. Dr. Harris has always had a deep love for her work, and when Mr. Alistair got the donation from TechSci Corp instead of her and her team, she was very angry. But would that be enough of a motive for her to kill?​

Motive: Malcolm was a fan of Henry's novel, and several years ago attempted to befriend him. However, they famously do not get along, and despite keeping in contact with one another, they do nothing but argue about any given topic.

Strengths: imaginative (when inspiration strikes him), not easily decieved, observant
Weaknesses: distrusting, perhaps too fond of alcohol, technologically inept
Personality: cynical, snarky, no-nonsense attitude
Background: Several years ago he wrote a bestselling and critically acclaimed novel; now, he struggles to write anything decent. Once a bright-eyed young man, this frustration has turned him into a jaded shell of his former self.

Motive: Although Winston worked for Dr. Alistair, they didn't know each other very well. When they met on occasion, Dr. Alistair seemed self-centered, like Winston was lesser than him, somehow. After his paralyzing incident, his suspicions were confirmed when Alistair quietly demoted him from his head position. Since then he's harbored resentment for Dr. Alistair.
Skills: Robotics, deflecting blame off of himself
Strengths: Smack talk, figuring out stuff, intelligence
Weaknesses: Physical movement, can't see very well
Personality: Although he can come off as cold and arrogant, mostly Winston is friendly and quiet, speaking only when necessary and never raising his voice louder than he has to. He also gets annoyed a lot, sometimes for no reason, but to him, everything can't happen just because.
Background: He got the NextG job and quickly rose through the ranks thanks to his brilliance in writing software and robotics. He was the head of robotics and was well known for his tendency to act weirdly when coming into contact with different objects. One day, Winston had been testing something on an open corridor -> with a view overlooking the ground floor. It's not quite known what he was doing, but Winston fell down to the ground floor onto a table, temporarily paralyzing his lower half and preventing them from letting him walk. He was stabilized quickly and was informed of his misfortune. Since then he's been quieter, and though he still works at NextG, he was demoted from his position. He's known as a pioneer in technology and is well-regarded as one of the best scientific minds in the world, although he's much more lacking in business skills.
Other: His wheelchair is robotic; with a remote control joystick, he can easily manipulate his chair to rotate and can change his speed to be faster than a person can run. Winston has a cupholder, and he's engineered the chair himself so it makes next to no sound.
Appearance: Winston has black hair and pale skin, on account of him spending all his days at home. He's quite skinny, and almost always sags a little in his slightly bulky but modern wheelchair. His eyes are dark. Generally, he wears black jackets with white T-shirts and jeans.

growing up, jo didn't spend much time with others, aside from the many nannies her parents hired to teach her and keep her out of trouble. she went through many of these, though, because she proved to be a handful and no one wanted to keep the job for longer than a month. because of this, she was rarely allowed to play with children her own age for fear of the influence she'd have on them. when she was ten, her mother died, and afterwards, her behavior only worsened. her father became consumed with his work in order to take his mind off of his loss, and jo became desperate to earn the attention and comfort of her father. in order to do so, she became an even wilder child. if it took getting in trouble to gain his attention, then so be it. as she got older, she never grew out of her rebellious ways. instead, the stunts she pulled got bigger and the punishments as well until she was sent to a private school where her father hoped she would learn some morals. true, she got better at masking her bad behavior and pretending to be a well-mannered young lady, but inside, she's still the same person.

Alexis "Lexi" Mason

Motive: Alexis is a young coder, who has similar intellect to Malcom Alistair. She met him at one of the many events hosted by his company and they got along quickly. She had been 17 back then and had already graduated high school. At first she was skeptical about the old man offering her a job, but she took it anyway and became the youngest employee of NextG a year later.
Malcom took her under his wing and taught her a lot of things, making her programming skills even more extraordinary and also boosting her social skills. When she started to work for Alistair, she didn't even know how to greet authority figures; now, she's a great buisnesswoman and knows how to make people do things the way she wants them to.
It had always been an unspoken fact that she would follow Malcom's footsteps and take over the company when he retired... Until they had a fight in the lobby the night before he died.

Skills: Programming - Partially self taught. The rest she learned from Malcom.
High intellect, fast thinking - She has an IQ over 130
People person - Malcom taught her how to charm people and how to behave around crowds. She's become really good at it over the years.

Personality: Lexi used to be a quiet and shy girl, who only really hid in her own world, trying to code the best video game ever been. The most important thing for her were grades, until she met Malcom Alistair. She saw him as some kind of father figure and was happy to do everything he taught her. Over time, she developed more social skills and grew as a person, all thanks to her mentor (at least that's what she tells herself). Inside, she's still that insecure and quiet girl, but on the outside, she is a professional businesswoman and definitely a candidate for the CEO, now that Malcom is dead.

Background: Growing up in a middleclass family, she's always had enough, but never too much to live. Her mother was a single parent, but she had help from her whole family raising Alexis. Most of her childhood days, Lexi spent with her grandparents or her aunt, since her mother had to work constantly. All in all, she had a happy childhood, even though she had few friends because she was a little know-it-all and the other kids didn't like that. Lexi fled into the realms of video games and stayed there most of the time.
She skipped a grade in high school and graduated at 17, getting a job offer from NextG just a day after her graduation. (Rest is found under "Motive")

Name: Marcel "Em" Emerson

Motive: Marcel has been trying to get an increase in pay for a while now. As it is, his income is barely enough to support himself. He currently works a part-time job to help support himself. He fears that if something were to happen then he could end up in serious financial trouble if things continue like this. His meek personality and stubborn employers have kept him from achieving this, though. This, coupled with his mysterious background could be cause for suspicion.

Skills: Fluent in both English and Japanese, conversational in asl. Dexterous. Computer science major. Robotics and english minors.

Strengths: A great listener/observer. Good at reading situations. Knows when he should(n't) be involved. Can keep a secret.

Weaknesses: Incredibly meek and quiet. Young, so likely to be ignored or overlooked. Not physically gifted(hopefully this never comes to be relevant lol)

Personality: Marcel is the quiet kind of guy who'd let you lead a conversation and add in only every now and then. He gets anxious easily and worries about others' opinions of him. It isn't as bad now as it was when he was younger, but it's still very apparent by the way he holds himself and how he speaks.

Background: Marcel moved to the states nine years ago. He never tells anyone why he moved or where he came from, responding to questions with either a change in topic or silence. One can guess at his home country, though, looking at his appearance. After arriving, he transferred to a fairly decent college majoring in computer science and minoring in robotics and english. After graduating and a few years of job searching, he landed a job at NextG. Currently, he has a fairly low position at the company.

Appearance(hope just a description is fine): Marcel is a japanese male standing at 155cm(~5ft) with straight black hair that partially covers his dark grey eyes. His skin is very pale and his frame is thin, almost scrawny. It can be hard to tell, though, since he's usually wearing fairly baggy clothing.
