Disciplines
Reining - Reining horses perform a set pattern which emphasizes their responsiveness to and control by the rider. Flying lead changes, spinning turns, sliding stops and lengthening and shortening the stride are maneuvers required to exhibit the horse's ability to respond to the rider.

Cutting - In cutting competitions the horse separates a cow from the herd and keeps it from returning to the herd by anticipating and outmaneuvering its attempts to join the herd.

Gymkhana - Speed events are tests of the horse's agility and speed. Horses compete against the clock and the fastest time wins. Barrel racing is racing the horse around barrels set in a cloverleaf pattern. Pole bending is weaving the horse in and out of six tightly spaced poles. A stake race is running the horse in a figure 8 pattern around two poles. There are many other speed events for horses.

Dressage - Dressage is a competition that evaluates the horse’s training, responsiveness and obedience to the rider. A prescribed pattern of movements, which increases in difficulty the horse reaches higher levels of training, is used to evaluate the precision and smoothness of the pattern, the transitions between movements and horse’s obedience to and harmony with the rider.

Show Jumping - Show jumpers are horses that are specifically trained and talented at jumping large jumps within a specific time limit. The major criteria for show jumpers is to get over the jump without errors, such as refusing to jump or knocking down the jump, with the added difficulty of speed. Quality of gaits and manners are not considered. If there are several horses that have a ‘clear’ round, with no faults, the horse with the fastest time over the course will be named the winner.

Eventing - Eventing is an equestrian triathlon competition which was developed to test military horses. Horses first must exhibit their ability to respond to the rider through a dressage test. Then their speed, endurance and cross-country jumping ability are tested in an endurance phase. Finally, their stamina and jumping ability are evaluated in a final show jumping competition. Eventing is a rigorous test of the athleticism of the horse and rider, and is one of the equestrian events in the Summer Olympics.

Vaulting - Vaulters perform in an enclosed arena with soft footing. One team member called the longeur stands in the middle of the arena and holds a long lead, called the longe line, attached to the horse. The horse moves in a circle around the longeur at a walk, trot or canter, depending on the level of competition. The longeur is always in control of the horse, making vaulting much safer than trick riding.

Polo - A game played on horseback between two teams of four players each who use mallets with long, flexible handles to drive a wooden ball down a grass field and between two goal posts. It is the oldest of equestrian sports.

background — born as an only child, she was given loads of love and affection right from the start. it was a rule of the family to not spoil her as they didn't want her turning out to be bratty and entitled, something that they had seen occur with their friends' children. so kara was taught how to be respectful and kind, no matter what the situation, and she was most certainly taught to not ask for more than she could afford. the family wasn't poor as they sat comfortably in the upper-middle class, but they came from poor backgrounds and wanted their daughter to learn how to work for what she wanted. it took her a while but at age eight, kara decided she wanted to get in horses.

she took classes as often as her parents would allow her and instantly fell in love with it. it was clear to the couple that she had a lot of talent so they made a deal that they would invest in buying her a horse if she started to consistently win in competitions. she worked harder than ever and found that she improved quite quickly, eventually securing her own horse at age thirteen. it was an older horse, around fourteen years old, and was an australian stock horse named agustus (the previous owner's name, not hers), and they clicked immediately. she spent every waking moment with the horse, constantly teaching him tricks, braiding flowers into his mane, and obviously competing on him.

tw; death
kara got invited to the malloy academy that same year and naturally, she accepted, excited to not only go overseas but to also go to a school that was dedicated to horses. she thrived at the school, able to explore the world of eventing upon arrival. kara and gus were well-liked by the students and they really seemed to fit in at the school. when she was fifteen years old though, everything changed. she was home for the holidays, as per usual, and brought gus with her as she worked with him over vacations so he wouldn't be out of shape. she had gone out for an early hack, taking her usual route, when a huge thunderstorm hit on the way back. she knew the trail by heart, as did the horse, but it didn't do them any good.

a farmer that had woken up far too late and was rushing down to the store to pick up his order, was out on the road and wasn't paying attention to where he was going. as he was heading down the road, he got a phone call and was busy with that, rather than looking at what was in front of him. kara, who couldn't really hear anything over the rain, popped out of the wooded trail and onto the main road, as she always did, but it was the biggest mistake of her life. due to the fact that the driver was on his phone and not looking where he was going, he headed straight for kara and gus, only seeing them when it was too late.

kara had been thrown from gus as the horse reared out of fear, the harsh fall severely injuring her shoulder and knocking her out for a bit. when she came to, there was a lot of shouting and the farmer was at her side, trying to see if she was alright. she was incredibly groggy and couldn't see gus, only being told to lay down until the ambulances had arrived. the sirens filled the air and surrounded the girl, preventing her from seeing the truck and her horse, telling her it was for the best. kara ended up getting rushed to the hospital, only hearing what she assumed was the labored breathing of gus.

the girl ended up getting surgery on her shoulder and when she came out of it, her parents delivered the painful news. gus died in emergency surgery due to unforeseen complications with his heart. the girl was utterly crushed and sobbed for days, unable to really do anything else. she fell into a deep depression, barely speaking to her family, let alone return to school. her parents decided that the best thing for her was to take a year off for recovery until she was ready to go back to school. because her injury prevented her from riding in general, the school board allowed it, explaining that she would be a year behind her old classmates and would be expected to catch up with them.

her parents seemed to agree for her and just let their daughter process everything that had happened to her. kara often said she wanted to give riding up and that she didn't want to go back to the academy, but that wasn't an option. so she focused on recovering, finding that it was easier to do physical therapy than face the trauma that was her life. though she couldn't avoid it forever. once she was cleared for riding, her parents surprised the girl with a new horse, hoping that it would help her overcome her depression and go back to the school. although she knew that she had to go back to school, she couldn't opt-out of it.

so kara got back into riding and began working with mika, but she didn't want to bond with him, at least not in the same way. it took a long time, but she began to come around to him, finding comfort in his company. that was when the school ended up getting a call from kara's parents, informing them that she would be returning for the new school year, accompanied by a new horse. it wasn't ideal and she still had a lot of issues with riding and even stormy weather, but she couldn't say no. she lost all her drive to fight with her parents. it was easier to just go along with what they wanted and graduate.

show name — mikaere's legacy
barn name — mika
age — 7 years old
sex — stallion
breed — danish warmblood
height — 17hh
looks — 01. 02.

personality — there's a lot of personality in this horse that seems to match his overwhelming size. the stallion isn't a calm animal by any means and tends to stir up those around him, mostly for fun. he knows that he's big and strong so he often uses that to his advantage and pushes not only horses around but also people. it's not uncommon for him to get an attitude with those that are leading him and heaven forbid, riding him. he isn't deliberately trying to be mean but he doesn't like getting told what to do, especially by those he's unfamiliar with. since he has such a bad attitude, he is often in pastures with geldings that are more docile and submissive and isn't ridden by anyone other than kara.

in terms of competitions, he excels with flying colors. he thoroughly enjoys eventing and always tries his best no matter what. he seems to relax when working and is much softer when he is able to run and jump. he gets into his rhythm very quickly and even does quite well in dressage, often landing in the top three with his scores. however, he is a very sensitive horse and quickly picks up on the anxiety of kara which will cause him to perform poorly. as long as she has confidence, he will go towards anything and do his best.

- mother is an olypmic trainer for the british equestrian team, specializing in eventing
- father, being a member of the Rolex foundation, often sponsored events that sophie would have competitors at or would compete in with new horses
- the pair met and fell in love at a charity banquet in California
- they got married two years later and three years after that, they welcomed their twins into the world
- elias and elisa, two perfect children for the perfect family
- elias took after his father and was much more interested in sports like rugby and elisa found solace in the equestrian world, showing an amazing talent in it
- she started to compete at a young age and was allowed to ride the most expensive horses that money could buy
- as she grew older, she began to fill the shoes of a typical rich girl and her attitude started to show through at competitions and school
- when she was 13, she was asked if she wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps and attend malloy, something she happily agreed to
- even at such a young age, she secured her role as a fierce competitor and someone that wasn't to be messed with
- she eventually decided she wanted her own horse so her father purchased florian for her when he turned two. she worked with the stallion with her mother and family trainer
- he helped to encourage her to go further and while he was a young horse, a project, she still rode her mother's horse for competitions
- until she found brego at a farm when she was vacationing with her family and found out that he was for sale, due to not producing top foals
- he was merely a pasture decoration so with a flick of her wrist, the 16 year old purchased the gelding and had him shipped home so she could work on him
- they quickly formed a bond and she declared that he would never be for sale or to be ridden by another, something she also decided for florian later on
- now she has produced top jumpers and holds a very powerful position at the school, it basically held under a perfectly manicured nail

show name — heir to the throne
barn name — brego
age — 11 years old
sex — gelding
breed — holsteiner
height — 17hh
looks — 01. 02.

personality — one of the most gentle horses at the school, he is quiet and keeps to himself, usually just grazing instead of getting mixed up with the other horses around him. his calm disposition causes him to be well-liked by the students, some of the younger classmen often asking to spend some time with him after he's been in a lesson or on an off day. very friendly, he will happily come up to anyone and ask for a lot of attention. it's not uncommon to see him staring in the direction of the arena when florian is working with elisa, mostly because he's quite attached to both of them. the stallion shows a great attachment and dependency on elisa which has caused him to be unsellable.

when it comes to the arena, he is the complete opposite. he is very hyper and hot, often having to be held back so that he doesn't completely fly through the course and injure himself. since he has been jumping at high levels for quite some time, it's not surprising that he will face any jump head-on, not even minding the height. he is a very determined animal and doesn't seem to get discouraged easily. however, he is very forward and will sometimes get a little too excited which will cause him to be unaware of his legs, often knocking a rail when he's like this.

show name — ask no more
barn name — florian
age — 6 years old
sex — stallion
breed — hanoverian
height — 17hh
looks — 01. 02.

personality — quite an excitable horse, he was bred to be a top competitor, his sire, and dam being olympic horses that won gold for their country. elisa bought him when he was two years old and began working with him as he was obsessed with free jumping, something that she found exciting and encouraged him to do. this led to the young stallion to develop a very wild attitude when it came to jumping, clearing every fence that was in view. the family had an issue with the horse actually jumping out of their pastures and roaming until another fence was in front of him. he learned to respect boundaries though and the girl worked with him closely, aiming for him to follow in the footsteps of his parents and this seemed to bring out a very competitive side of the horse. they discovered that he wasn't one to take orders from those around him and immediately established himself as the top stallion, often fighting with the others, simply proving his dominance. not aggressive towards people, he is a very spirited horse and tends to throw fits, especially if he hasn't been able to go out and play in a field.

in terms of competition, there's really nothing left to say other than he has olypmic potential. the stallion will head for any fence and clear it with such determination that elisa often has a giant smile plastered on her face as soon as they've left the ground. florian enjoys jumping and is very good at it, however, he does have issues with getting a little too cocky and excited, often playfully throwing fits after clearing a rather complicated fence. like many young horses, he is very hot and tends to use his size and strength against those who are working with him. due to this, elisa and her trainer are the only ones who really ride him and are working to correct his bad habits.

Name:
Princess Ayomide Ishaku (Princess is her title, not her name)
Nickname(s): Ayo
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bicurious
Form/School Year: Lower Sixth or Year 12
Discipline: Eventing
Appearance:
Description tba
Height: 5' 9"
Eyes: Dark brown
Hair: Black
Mods: Pierced ears
Scars: -
Likes: Speed Derby, street food (it is a forbidden treat at home), new and colour-coordinated horse gear, clothes and fabric, jewellery, giving autographs, dancing, afrobeats, supercars.
Dislikes: Swimming, plain food, long lectures, uniforms, having to get dressed and ready in less than an hour, housecats, fizzy drinks (they give her hiccups, so undignified!)
Habits: Going barefoot indoors, social media
Fears: Snakes and mosquitoes
Vices: Lack of empathy, pride, wastefulness, vanity
Virtues: Generosity, hospitality, confidence, fortitude

Background:
Daughter of King Adeniji Ishaku of Nigeria (Nigeria has a plethora of Kings). Since the moment she was born, Ayomide has been given everything she wants. When Ayomide announced as a young child that she wanted to ride, she was given the best ponies and the best instructors. As she grew older the ponies became horses, with no expense spared. She was raised as befits the daughter of a King, with self-worth, good manners and appropriate behaviour drilled into her alongside an insistence that she should always look her best.
Education at a British boarding-school is a modern but well-established tradition, and so of course all efforts were made to ensure that she would attend the best possible school there. Normally that would have been Cheltenham Ladies College (the equivalent of Eton for girls), but, given its reputation for producing world-class equestrians, she was instead enrolled at The Malloy Academy.

Horse Information

Show Name:
Thunderstruck
Stable Name: Iji
Age: 8
Sex: Gelding
Breed: KWPN
Height: 16.2 hh
Appearance:
Thunderstruck.jpg
Personality: Bred and trained to be the best of the best, and he knows it. His strength is jumping. His favourite job is to go over whatever he's pointed at, at any speed and at any angle, while also having the athleticism and willingness to perform well in dressage. He gets annoyed with unclear, stuffy or unbalanced riding, and when he's annoyed he makes mistakes, which tends to feed back to the rider and exacerbate the errors. When ridden well, though, he is superb, giving everything he's asked for and more. He is polite in the stable and paddock, but is picky about which other horses he gets along with.

Habits: Tends to twirl her hair when bored or nervous.
Fears: Having an injury that prevents her from riding.

Vices: arrogant, vain, hot headed, has trust issues
Virtues: truthful, courageous, adaptive, caring to those she considered friends/family

Background: Mi-Young was apart of a wealthy family. To bad it was a family that didn't want her. Mi-Young became and adult a lot earlier in life than most people. She had to work three times as hard as her older brother to get what she wanted out of life. Anytime they could, her parents would remind her she was an unwanted child who they were forced to keep. Mi-Young started riding at a young age and it was the only escape she had. It was also the only thing her parents would pay for and she wanted more than anything to prove her worth to them. When she got accepted into Malloy Academy she was actually surprised that her parents allowed her to go. Probably because it would mean they didn't have to see her.

There were many times throughout the years that she had money fall through because of stupid reasons from her parents. Its not like they didn't have the money it was more that they focused on her brother than her. Her brother who also happened to get into an equine college. She's never been mad at her brother, no he didn't deserve it. He had done nothing wrong to her and had been there for her when she needed him to be but it still hurt that he got more attention than she.

At the Academy, Mi-Young prefers to be called Ara, for while at the academy she could be the strong, confidant woman she isn't at home. She is a bit arrogant and pays a lot of attention to her looks, both in and out of the saddle. Her arrogance comes from the fact that she is really good at her discipline and people know it. She also has a bit of a trust issue due to her parents randomly abandoning her throughout her life.

Other: Speaks English and Korean

Horse Information
Show Name: Calm Storm
Barn Name: Storm/Stormy
Age: 7
Sex: Mare
Breed: Knabstrupper
Height: 15.2 hh
Appearance:
1595459779109.png

Personality: Storm is the epitome of her name. For a mare she is a clam angel but once in the ring she has this aura to her, one like the calm before the storm. She has a lot of power over jumps despite her small frame and can easily keep up with the large warmbloods. Storm is a very food motivated horse which Mi-Young really appreciates. She can be hot headed with an experienced riding but very calm with little kids.

Scars: little ones hear and there from falling

Likes: Nature, Reading, Archery, jumping, jogging
Dislikes: The cold (can be seen wearing warm clothes often), snakes, spiders, people calling him feminine (he cant help it!)
Habits: biting his lower lip subconsciously, tapping his thigh with his fingers
Fears: healthy fear of snakes and spiders

Vices: perfectionist (will over work himself in the process), envious of the others at his school, insecure (more about his body but also in his riding)
Virtues: Kind hearted, generous, forgiving, smart

Background: Hyuk was born and mostly raised in South Korea. His family eventually moved to Britain when his father got relocated for his job. Hyuk did not grow up with money. In fact, life was really hard for his family for a while. He had to work his butt off to even be able to ride in the beginning. He first took up riding when his archery instructor told him about mounted archery and how he might enjoy something that was more of a challenge. Hyuk excelled at archery but even with that he couldn't afford to go to competitions to earn money through it. To afford the mounted archery lessons Hyuk became a working student. When he wasn't at school he was working at the only barn that was nearby. His life was unusual for normal Korean kids his age, for normally after school they go to an after school school to study more.

As soon as he was building his reputation his farther got an offer he couldn't refuse and they uprooted and left South Korea. Hyuk was bitter at first. He was finally getting somewhere and then lost everything. MOunted archery was not very popular where he moved to an dit saddened him, but by this point he still enjoyed riding horses and didn't want to give that up. His father was finally making enough money to afford lessons and Hyuk ended up picking a new discipline, eventing. It was then that he had gotten his own horse Prince.

Hyuk was a sophomore when he transferred into the school. It took him a bit longer than he wanted to admit to get good enough at the dressage portion of the discipline. At school you can see him practicing really hard to get better at it.

Horse Information
Show Name: Prince Charming
Barn Name: Prince
Age: 9
Sex: gelding
Breed: Hanoverian
Height: 17hh
Appearance:
1595559252936.png
Personality: Prince is a sounded minded horse. He does what he is told and looks elegant doing it. Even though it doesn't show through often, Prince knows that he is good at what he does and looks good doing it. He will give this look of "yes I know I'm pretty. Its a very odd personality for an event horse but it works in Hyuk's favor when it comes to mounted archery. Prince doesn't particularly care about that part of his human's life but he tolerates it out of love. His favorite part of the three stages is dressage (which has save Hyuk on more than one occasion). Prince is a fairly spoiled horse, for Hyuk does everything he can to give the gelding the best of the best. He has to have shoes on all four, in the winter, he will let you know when it is appropriate to take the blankets off. (most definitely not till afternoon) and can be picky about what he likes to eat.

WIP: Taz Henderson

*** I'd love for Taz to have a friend or a few. Depending on familial conventionality and tolerance, this may be a friendship that is disapproved of. Message me if you'd like to work something out! ***

Description:
Taz.jpg

Name: Thomas Henderson
Nickname: Taz
Age: 17
Gender: Non-binary, genderfree
Sexuality: Asexual
Year: 13 (Upper Sixth)
Discipline: Showjumping (Modern pentathlon)

Height: 6'
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Long and dark
Mods: Shaves/waxes all body hair
Scars: -

Likes: Art, trick riding, hanging out with friends, hats, glitter, juggling, fencing, archery, gymnastics, knife throwing, wearing whatever the frick they want to.
Dislikes: Intolerance, racism, sexism, ageism, transphobia, abusive horse training including rollkur and its cousins. Body hair, people referring to them with male pronouns (or female ones, for that matter).
Habits: Juggling whatever comes to hand
Fears: Conversion therapy
Vices: Moody, easily irritated, lacks self-confidence, sensationalist/exhibitionist
Virtues: Artistic, loyal, sympathetic, tactful

Background
Taz was born with the body of a male, but has always known that they are neither male nor female. Most of the adults in their life have insisted on using male pronouns, at first assuming that "it's just a phase he'll grow out of." They are still waiting for that to happen, and are increasingly placing Taz under pressure: "Stop messing about and playing up for attention. You're embarrassing us! Just pull yourself together and stop being silly." They have barely managed to get others to call them Taz instead of Tom or Thomas, and there are a dozen little everyday things that continue to remind them that very few people accept them for who they really are: the name on their bank account, name and gender on their passport, competition announcers using male pronouns to refer to them, or being expected to use the men's toilets and shower room.

Taz was never conventional, despite every effort to get them to conform. Even their hobbies were non-mainstream, made accessible by the private preparatory school they attended which prided itself on the wide range of experiences and opportunities it gave to its pupils (although their parents selected it because it had a good equestrian team). Circus skills, gymnastics, shooting, fencing and archery were their activities of choice, and they continue to practice them all whenever the opportunity arises, including those not directly related to their discipline. They hope maybe they could become a stuntperson one day... if they can escape showjumping.

Taz's father is a top-level showjumper who has assumed, without consultation, that his 'son' will follow in his footsteps. Taz doesn't mind the showjumping too much, and has, to an extent, gone along with it to minimise friction even though they prefer art (they have enough problems with their family trying to get them to "be a man"). Taz has claimed to want to compete in modern pentathlon, which has showjumping as one of the five disciplines. It means a little less pressure to get to the top on their own horse, because pentathletes don't ride their own horses in competition, but parental pressure remains. Taz has been sent to the Malloy Academy because it's supposed to "awaken his manly fighting instincts," or something. It hasn't worked. Taz suspects the horse their father presented them with was supposed to be some sort of punishment. The joke's on Daddy Dearest, because, despite looking as if he was constructed of reject parts, Badly Drawn Boy is sweet-natured and insanely talented.

𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘀: Although it's not a visible scar at the age of 4, she attempted to ride a horse, causing her inexperienced self to fall, resulting in the horse stepping on her left side of her face. 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱: Heidi was born into a very fractured household. Her mother struggled to have ends meet despite coming from a well off family. Heidi's father was not in the picture; in fact, he was sentenced to 15 years in jail for attempted murder. To this day, Heidi doesn't know anything about the case, nothing that the public already knows. Even though she was restricted from going near her grandparent's house, she would regularly go there. Heidi and her grandpa had always gotten along being the first man to teach her how to ride a horse. Her grandpa would always pick her up from their 2-star apartment while her mother was off to work. The nanny didn't mind only because a few Benjamin Franklins were being slipped in her purse. They spent hours together riding horses, but being 5 in half, Heidi was only allowed to ride ponies. One day on a particularly rainy day, she went out to the barn (when her grandpa was occupied with getting them snacks), and she picked a pretty white horse as she described it. Now riding a horse 100 times the size of you is one thing, but trying to pull off a handstand on that horse is another.

One thing leads to another her grandpa came out screaming, which might have caused the horse to overreact. Either way, this would have ended with Heidi falling and being trampled on by the horse's hooves. And that's when momzilla found out. Being unable to afford the cost of surgery, she asked her parents to fix the problem they caused. The doctors did the best they can in terms of the visual aspect, but the internal damage was hard to fix. Twelve years from then, and all Heidi could talk about is horses. For years shes been begging her mother who at first caved in when Heidi was ten years old. She allowed her to train with her grandparents, but no training wasn't enough for Heidi. With the help of her grandpa, her mother agreed, and with that, Heidi began thinking of professionally riding horses. On her 14 birthday, her parents afford her an all-expense-paid trip to The Malloy Academy.

𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Leo is a very sassy he's had trouble working with Heidi. Though he's gotten used to her presence, he doesn't allow most people to approach him. Most think Leo is malnourished. Not only is he physically slim, but he also doesn't that much for a horse of his breed. With Leo, it's not when Heidi wants to train; it's when Leo wants to teach. If he isn't in the mood, he won't allow anyone to ride him. Most of the training usually ends up with Heidi chasing down Leo across the field.
