This is the Lore page of the roleplay.

This will be a place where I will post the general lore and history of Delaran of how they came to fear magic and why the grand culling of mages was initiated. Information about current affiliations such as illegal Mage Shelters where magic users can go as a safe haven away from prying eyes and the military organisation known as the Mage Eradication Unit (M.E.U), an organisation of veteran warriors formed solely to wipe magic off the face of the earth once and for all. I will make further posts below filled with the necessary information you'll need on all aspects of the roleplay.

Mage Lore
Mages are individuals who can manipulate the supernatural energies in the air to create to what everyone knows as magic. To be capable of such feats however is not an easy task. First it is required that someone must be born with a strong affinity to magic, it is not simply something that can be taught to anyone, and given that you were born as such, you may not know it until in life. Most magical abilities are not taught, rather they are discovered in the form of that mage's primary magic. A mage's primary magic is the ability that they were born with and tends to harbour their more powerful spells. Occasionally, you could get some people that are also born with a secondary magical ability, often times it is much weaker than primary magic considering they hardly have any offensive capability what-so-ever as they often come in the form of convenient tools rather than weapons of destruction.

Different Forms of Magic
Primary Magic - This can come in the form of all kinds of magic, whether it is destructive or restorative. For example one mage could have the ability to control fire while another mage could be capable of healing terrible wounds and diseases. While primary magic is generally much stronger than secondary magic, other primary magic can even be more powerful than other abilities in the same category. However as is with the balance of the world, more powerful magic comes with heavier drawbacks to the user.

Secondary Magic - Secondary magic never has any kind of destructive power behind it. Instead the abilities that come with this form of magic can be in the form of more convenient tools such as telepathy or clairvoyance. It is even possible for weaker mages to be born. Only having access to secondary magic and nothing else.

"A few bad apples can spoil the rest"

Most of society in this world fear mages and their magical abilities. Thanks to some less than savoury individuals mages are now hunted all across the Kingdom of Delaran by the M.E.U and are forced to live a life in hiding and secrecy. Supporting groups for mages are incredibly rare too as anyone who even dares to show any kind of supporting activity for a mage is met with prison in the best case scenario.

The Mage Eradication Unit
A specialised army of soldiers trained and dedicated specifically to battle mages. This ruthless force is commanded by a man known as Grandmaster Issac Baelsar, a fearsome warrior and revered commander intent on following the orders of his king to the letter. The eradication of every mage in Delaran is ultimate goal and will stop at nothing until he achieves it. The soldiers of the M.E.U are all fierce warriors, handpicked by the Grandmaster himself from Delaran's Military. Only the best of the best are cut out to join the ranks of the M.E.U. However despite their prowess in combat, they are all still human beings with no affinity for magic. In which case the M.E.U utilise specialised armour and weapons forged from a sacred metal said to be blessed by the Church of Delmar itself. This gear has proved time and time again to be incredibly resiliant to magic, soldiers have even survived direct blasts that would normally incinerate any normal person. However this armour is not impenetrable, enough damage will eventually wear down their defense, leaving them open to a finishing attack. Despite the might of the M.E.U, they are always in need of new recruits due to the heavy casualties suffered in battle.

Tools of the trade

Enchanted Armour (M.E.U Uniform): Standard M.E.U uniform designed around great resiliance against magical attacks, however not to be treated as a shield, you will still take serious damage taking a direct hit from a magical blast.

Weaponry: Enchanted Weaponry that boast great impact and durability. This arsenal of weapons is open to anyone in the ranks of the M.E.U but you may use your own weapons if you so choose.

The Kingdom of Delaran
1550161521747.png

Delaran is an incredibly prosperus nation, home to at least 30% of the world's population. Delaran is one of the largest nations known to man and boasts the most hardened military out there, serving as a deterent for would be invaders of the kingdom. Delaran is ruled by King Reverend Moonfire. King Reverend is loved by the general public and known to be a truly kind-hearted ruler with his subjects best interests in mind. However mages view him as a tyrant and a killer and for good reason. Under King Reverend's orders many mages have met their end. Whether it was at the tip of a blade on the battlefield or at the edge of the headsman's axe on the chopping block. Public execution is also a common sight. Even if some view it as entertainment, it's primary reason is to serve as a warning to any and all individuals who'd dare conspire with these wielders of magic.

Delaran is also home to the Church of Delmar. A place of worship dedicated to the nations Goddess Delmar. This place houses a unique kind of magic called Delamancy, this form of magic is considered holy, sacred and is the ONLY magic that the King decrees to be safe and a necessity to the people as it is a blessing from Delmar herself. The cardinals of Delmar are the only ones who can utilise this magic and can use it to enchant metals such as armour and weapons with magical attributes, granting enhanced resilience against magical attacks. However this magic can also be very powerful in of itself, but the cardinals are trusted to keep it out of the hands of the unworthy.

Delmarian Templars

Legends tell of Knights so incredibly powerful, they are considered to be soldiers of Delmar herself. With complete mastery of the sword and Delemancy magic, they are truly foes that no one should ever go toe to toe with. The Templars are said to be so powerful that a single one could wipe out armies of men and mages alike. However there has been no proof of one ever existing in the first place, and the cardinals claim that the stories of such powerful entities are exactly that... Stories, the stuff of legend and mythology. The kind of stuff you tell stories about to a child to scare them into being good and go to bed early.

However there has been no proof that they don't exist either...

Magus
Magus in the past was a modest village built in the middle of some sturdy ruins of an old fort, located far off from the city of Delaran. The closest landmark the nation has to Magus is the Colassi Tower. Magus served as a safe haven for mages, Magus had remained out of sight from the kingdom of Delaran for a good month or so. But things wouldn't stay like that for long. If it wasn't for the timely arrival of Gildal Malibus ( ShadowHounder ShadowHounder ), Magus would've been crushed under the might of the Colassi Tower's knights. Gildal took it upon himself to rally the mages of the village and shore up the villages defenses, repairing broken walls of the old fort to keep the knights at bay. Some casualties were suffered but Magus had ultimately won the day, dealing a heavy blow to Colassi Tower in the process. Now the knights don't have the numbers or the supplies to mount another large scale assault on Magus and reinforcements will take a long time to arrive and resupply.

Magus is currently open to any mage seeking refuge from the M.E.U. With Gildal acting as it's leader, taking over the village would prove to be a difficult task

Black Magic
Evil in it's purest form, Black Magic users invoke the ritualistic dark arts to decimate their foes with unbridled raw power... At a cost of course. Mana is simply not enough to sate the hunger of this darkness. It also requires blood sacrifice, whether that would be your own, or that of another. But this extra cost is made up for with powerful abilities. Imagine Black Magic as a seperate entity, deep within your very being. Whether a user of black magic intends to use their talent for malicious intent or not, the practice of such vicious arts are considered taboo, even among other mages. Mainly because any and all mages who were unlucky enough to even have such abilities were all either killed by their own rituals, or driven completely mad from overusing the dark energies. Another downside to black magic is that it is heavily ritualistic and take a great amount of preparation and time to perform. Even casting the magic can take several minutes, stretching into days or even weeks. Of course combatitive magic such as a blast of darkness would be instantanaous but the blood price remains, landing the hit on the target will result in them paying that price, missing it however will cause you to pay it. However as long as there are recently dead bodies within the vicinity, the fresh blood will be enough to pay that price, sparing you the expense

Black Magic is often attributed with Necromancy, Witchcraft, Curses, Fear Magic the list goes on. Pretty much any malicious form of magic falls under the black magic category. Same with the malicious blood price and risk of insanity.

The Tragic Death of Queen Evelyn Moonfire
The citizens of Delaran are all perfectly aware of the passing of their fair queen. The event that tipped King Reverend over the edge and called for the extermination of any and all learners of the arcane. Long before all the hatred towards magic, there was a time of peace, where mages were respected and treated as fairly as any other person. This was a time where Queen Evelyn was still alive. She was a fierce warrior and a kind monarch. Loved by all the citizens of Delaran, she and her husband King Reverend represented peace, prosperity and strength. However, 10 years after she'd given birth Princess Elisa, the Queen had fallen gravely ill, it was a disease like no other. Even the greatest doctors in the land could not find what was wrong with her, nor did any medication show any sign of making a difference. In only a matter of one week, the queen drew her final breath, not long after she passed, it was soon revealed by the Cardinals of Delmar that she had been cursed by a horrific spell that could only have been casted by Black Magic. Soon the Kings grief was replaced by vengeance, he failed to see the difference between normal magic and the cursed spell cast upon his beloved wife, so he called to have every mage wiped out completely. His way of ensuring this kind of tragedy would never happen again.
