    the pitch.

PITCHES WILL BE DUE IN A ROLLING PERIOD OVER THE COURSE OF THE WEEK. THESE SHOULDN'T TAKE LONG! OFFICIAL DEADLINE: TBD

Before we let folks go wild with making apps for the limited amount of roles, in this RP we are gonna do things a little differently. Folks will submit a 'pitch' which will contain information found on the 'form' tab.

Think of this like a character reserve. IF YOU DON'T DO A PITCH WE CAN'T GIVE YOU THE GO AHEAD TO MAKE YOUR FULL APP. Pitches can be tweaked later, prior to the official app, which in this case will also be non-traditional. It will be in an 'interview' from the perspective/about your character. These can be 3rd person description answers to the questions, and are preferred in this way. It is a bit of a writing sample for flow and to see how you can already begin developing your character! But that comes after the pitch.

As a reminder, FC types of all kinds are welcome! Descriptions, art, real life, all work. As well, ROLES ARE NOT FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. This means that we will be reviewing everyone in the pitch process and seeing where they can develop and what roles need elaborating or expanding (per influx of applicants). We will still set a hard cap of members at about 12, not including the GM and co-GM (myself). Please don't take it personally IF you happen to get cut for numbers. This will make group within group/teaming up a lot easier if there is a defined even amount.

dr. jeanette young

31; theoretical physicist

geena davis

♡coded by uxie♡

character name: dr. jeanette 'jean' young

character age: 31

character role: theoretical physicist

faceclaim/image/description: geena davis. jean's remarkably tall, hitting six foot in flats, and her frizzy curls do little to hide her height. rather than be ashamed, she's proud of it and stands tall. keen to smile as well as look extremely interested in what you're saying, even if she isn't, her brows are often pressed together and she's got some bit of dimple showing on one side in most expressions. she holds a slim figure, though she holds more weight in her hips from the grad school crunch, as she calls it. often wearing some form of sweater or blazer, she dresses fairly formally or at least somewhat like she knows where she's going. it's that or admit that she hasn't got a clue.

character concept: born the eldest daughter in a family of all boys, jean had much to be kept busy with; but thanks to her father's wisdom, she never let her own interests get tossed aside in favour of whatever sports game or practice that her brothers were going to that year. someone who's got a good head on her shoulders, but can get blinded by the wormhole of research she's accumulated over the years and blathering nonsense from a plethora of factoids she's got stored in her cerebral cortex, jean has much to learn in life that isn't all conceptual frameworks and applied mathematics. distinctly a country girl, despite moving to new york city with hard earned money in her pocket, her naivety can be confused for obliviousness. there are a lot of ifs, whys and hows in the world that either need explaining or need yet to be uncovered. sinking her social investments and potential work opportunities for this job, time will tell if it'll be worth it or just another bust.

Robert Bernard-Wright

Meteorologist

♡coded by uxie♡

Character name: Dr. Robert Bernard-Wright

Character age: 33

Character role: Meteorologist

Faceclaim/image/description: Jeffery Combs. Behind thick wire-framed glasses sits Robert’s square face and harmless demeanor. His pale skin and clean-shaven face do little to paint a picture of a rough and tumble man, and neither does his stature, standing at only five inches past five feet. His hands are soft, having spent most of his life recording data and avoiding the hard labor better fitted for stronger men. The occasional acne scar speckles his face, a present reminder of his acne-troubled adolescence. Never one to take an interest in fashion, his closets are filled with white button-ups and black ties, with the occasional khaki interrupting drawers filled with neatly folded slacks. His signature glasses rest on a pair of round ears and a pointed nose.

Character Concept: Robert serves as one of the chief specialists in Abnormal Weather Patterns and Phenomena for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. As a young boy, Robert was witness to the Palm Sunday tornado outbreak, an irregular weather event that tore through his Indiana town, leveling buildings and killing hundreds. His childhood fear of tornadoes mutated into a fascination, which fueled his desire to understand violent weather phenomena in hopes of preventing future catastrophes. Robert’s short stature and soft air have done little to help him develop better boundary skills. Often fearful of authority, Robert is what some may describe as a pushover. A history of bullying from his classmates, and then later on his coworkers, has led to the development of severe self-esteem issues on Robert’s part. Spending years burying his head in research papers, environmental and meteorological work and even testifying for congress, has left little time for relationships of either the romantic or platonic type. Outside his professional life, he’s struggled to maintain control over even the simplest of social interactions and finds himself frequently getting flustered at the presentation of conflict. Yet, what little interaction he has with those who lend their ear and their company is not taken for granted by the humble scientist.

Fayvel Sokalski

the comms

US Navy Operations Specialist First Class

♡coded by uxie♡

character name: petty officer fayvel sokalski

character age: 36

character role: the Comms

faceclaim/image/description: Short, stocky, and militarily tidy, Fayvel carries himself with a quiet self-assurance despite being all of 5'6". Square jawed, with dark brown eyes and a hawkish nose, Fayvel keeps his dark red hair cut short, which doesn't really suit his face. It's prone to getting curly if left to grow out. He has long fingered pianist's hands, heavily calloused from years of playing the violin and from doing fiddly work with wires. Out of uniform, he dresses just as practically: good boots, military jackets, sturdy pants, warm sweaters. Wears a Magen David on his dog tags.

character concept: Born to a jewish family in Minsk, Fayvel grew up behind the Iron Curtain in a small but close family that taught him and his older sister to value family, community, and music. At eighteen, Fayvel joined the navy for his mandatory military service, solely because he wanted to see the ocean. He spent three years in the service, stationed mostly in the Black Sea, and became obsessed not only with ships and the sea, but also with radio. After leaving the service he spent some time involved with unjamming western radio stations as well as producing pirate radio, before he and his sister managed to immigrate to the United States. Seeing it as a way to improve his chances at getting citizenship, Fayvel enlisted in the American Navy as soon as he got the chance. He's been in the US Navy for thirteen years now, a career sailor, with a reputation for being highly competent, highly adaptable, and with a dry sense of humor. A fondness for kvetching is sometimes misunderstood as him being pessimistic. Based out of Washington state for some time now, when on leave he's usually in Seattle playing violin in his sister's klezmer band.

Cy Ayers

ship engineer

amanda tapping

♡coded by uxie♡

character name: Cynthia "Cy" Ayers

character age: twenty-nine

character role: ship engineer

faceclaim/image/description: Cutting a lean figure and standing just above average, five foot eight on a good day, Cy isn't much to behold. She keeps her blonde hair cropped short at her neck and often couldn't care less about how it looks, which often results in it looking unkempt and a little wild. Ice blue eyes sit under sometimes overly expressive eyebrows. Often, one can find Cy in the stained coveralls befitting one in her job and she doesn't seem to mind wearing those most of the time. Outside of work though, you might catch her having tied the top of those coveralls around her waist, often with a slightly less stained tank-top or t-shirt underneath. Cy owns a single pair of steel toed work boots that she'd say are like a second skin.

character concept: Growing up an only child in small town suburbia was never a place that Cynthia felt entirely comfortable in. Her father owned a small law practice and her mother was the stay-at-home type. It was all entirely too boring for a tireless girl like Cynthia. She grew up not ever really understanding the privilege she held and this made her a little naive once she stepped out of her suburban bubble. But, a sarcastic sense of humor and a go-getter attitude would make up for her faults when she found herself in a largely male dominated career. Cynthia, with her blonde pigtails and sheltered background, became Cy, quick as a whip and with thick skin to boot. If her parents could see her now they might blow a gasket. They stopped calling at some point after she graduated with the mechanical engineering degree that they never approved of anyway. It didn't matter though, she could take it. If they didn't want to be involved then that was their loss. Perhaps that's why she decided to step onto the Belladona and into something unknown, there wasn't much she would be leaving behind. Nothing to lose and a lot to gain. Right?

spencer muir

37; ships engineer

kurt russell

♡coded by uxie♡

character name: spencer "spanners" muir

character age: 37

character role: ships engineer

faceclaim/image/description: kurt russell. although a relatively tall man, breaching six foot three in the cramped underbelly of the engine rooms—it proves hard to gauge with his constant slouch and swagger. more accustomed to roiling seas, the sailor’s burly physique is one of steady footing, often trussed up in his wet-weathers or threadbare overalls where the grease clings to his calloused hands; thick fingers and strong palms, split from cold weather and stained by the dye of motor oil. the sign of a man for whom no amount of washing could cleanse years of labour. all sweat and cigarette smoke with a warm cologne about the neck, a catholic crucifix hangs in the hollow of his collarbones. passed from father to son, the prayer endured long since erased the messiah’s face.

character concept: the son of a navy veteran born on new england’s coast, muir’s earliest recollections were of the polluted city ports; nothing so romantic as the open sea, crammed with stacks of containers and merchant crews stumbling on land to seek out steady liquor and friendly company. fixated with engines and mechanisms, from wind-up cars to the upkeep of his first bike, muir’s mother complained the boy broke everything he touched trying to rummage around in the steel viscera of radios and undoing the bolts holding his sister’s desks up. nevertheless, the talent was there, glaring to the naked eye, yet his academia failed where inert, hands-on knowledge flourished. fighting for his position the hard way, fumbling through college as a hostile young man, his initial apprenticeship began aboard a corporate fishing trawler. stinking of fish and salt, tipping at all angles with storms sending the deck nigh horizontal—always looking to find his amusement in ragging the raw nerves of other crew members. adverse to settling, hopping port to port and ship to ship, he’d first encountered the survivor out at sea, forging a sense of camaraderie in the profession of dangerous work. even recommended for the fantasea’s crew, spencer avoided its untimely fate and that of his own by something so little as being apprehended for brawling over a spilt drink.

Cain Renor

26; deckhand

geena davis

♡coded by uxie♡

character name: Cain Renor

character age: 26

character role: the deckhand

description: standing at 5'11 is the bag of bones that is Cain. Pale skin that seems to hate sunlight as much as its owner, scattered with moles and tattoos with hardly a place that doesn't have at least one of the two. His brown hair is usually left to do its own thing, the only styled portion of it being the bleached region at the base of his neck that he hardly maintains. Cheap clothing is usually two sizes too big, hanging from the slim form that needs more meat, long and thin from head to toe. Fingernails bitten too short from bad habits are tinted from too much smoking paired with the fading and chipped nail polish he occasionally upkeeps grace his hands. A sarcastic asshole who seems to have a thing running beside death. He is either extremely brave or stupid, though most people bet on the latter. Someone who always seems like he has something to say, though it usually isn't something you'd want to listen to. All bark and little bite is Cain, who seems to get into more trouble than he is worth with his many bad habits and addictions.

character concept: after five tries, his parents manage to produce their first boy, which finally made his father stop complaining about dreams of someone taking up his fishing business. It seemed as soon as he could walk, Cain's father threw him on the fishing boat, seeing more of that damned thing than his mother and sisters. As Cain grew, so did his hate for the boat and the fish he always seemed to see, which quickly became a war between him and his father. The only thing he could tolerate was the shitty maps his father insisted on using and their aging navigation technology, but even that did not last him. Without much of a plan, he ran away when he was 17 to a place filled with alcohol, cigarettes, sex, and drugs.

It wasn't until a few years later, when he was sleeping on the street without much of an education, that he realized his mistake. Without a high school diploma, he couldn't get any other education and decided to bounce between crap part-time jobs instead of finishing his schooling. It wasn't until he was charged with assault that his crumbling life truly fell apart. With his record tarnished, the only job left for him was on those damn boats he hated so much. Taking up a future he hoped never to have; he was met with a job on a boat. It wasn't until an old friend contacted him, explaining he was assembling a crew for some expedition, a friend he had way before his life went to shit. He didn't need much more than that; it may still be on a boat, but it was better than the stench of fish.

Dr. Jeremiah Amadou-Asim -
[jer-uh-my-yuh]
Dr Asim; Jerry; Jer; The Geo-Physician

Character Name: Dr. Jeremiah Amadou-Asim
Character Age: 42
Character Role: Geophysicist
Faceclaim/Image/Description:
Rugged but well-kept beard, brooding eyes, strong stature/healthy muscle-fat ratio, often wears trim suits, just under 6ft
Character Concept:
A practical, diligent man that likes things to make sense, who gets uneasy when placed outside of his comfort zone in a way that almost excites him. He struggles to admit his true feelings or drop the stoic mask around others. Has shown to be very driven and hardworking when it comes to finding answers or doing what needs to be done. He is also irrationally afraid of snakes and spiders.

Grew up in Liverpool to a West-African immigrant father and an Anglo-Egyptian neurosurgeon mother, studied mathematics and physics to be hardworking like them. Eventually moved to America to study geophysics at Stanford university where he had hobbies in drumming and lacrosse. Then spent many years in the industry across several job varieties including contractional jobs regarding construction and landscape surveying, non-profit research - in which he made several unique discoveries pertaining to a new type of soil - and seismology.

He has come to do his job not for the US government, but for the people living there and to live up to his self-perceived duty as a person of science. It is his role in life to study and codifying this planet for the understanding of himself and others.

wallace beckett

39; the survivor

n/a

♡coded by uxie♡

character name: Mateus Castelo Wallace 'Beck' Beckett

character age: 39

character role: The Survivor

faceclaim/image/description: Beck would reasonably stand at 5'11", but years of bad posture have made that not the case. His skin is warm olive-toned, with callouses on his hands from years of working the boats. He has dark brown hair with some visible grey throughout, cut short enough that its hard to get a good grip on it, and thick eyebrows, along with usually sporting stubble (but never a full beard). His eyes are dark brown; when he smiles, he has visible crows feet. On his right cheek, he has an old scar from a fall he had when on a vessel in his teens, and on the left side of his neck he has a visible birthmark splotch. He has generally sharp features and boney elbows, but has a decent amount of muscle mass from his work. That said, a common part of his ensemble is a cane due to a weak left leg. It doesn't affect him all the time, but the cane acts as a safety measure. He wears loose sweaters and good workpants, along with work boots that provide ankle support. He has a yellow rain jacket as well, which provides him with a very stereotypical fisherman look.

character concept: The son of a Portuguese immigrant family, looking to flee a dictatorship that had made their home one that was dangerous to live in. When they left, he was young, less than a year old, and he has no real memories of Portugal other than the stories his vó told him. His vô found work on boats going out from the Massachusetts harbors to fish, and his pai did too, and it wasn't long before he was on a boat as well, helping pull in the nets. Financials were tight though, and soon money problems turned to people problems around when Mateus was in his mid-20s. It ended up with him leaving, heading to the sea for some sense of safety and comfort, taking on a new name to settle in better with his peers. Fishing was second nature, as was how he jumped from vessel to vessel, finding work where he could. Rough around the edges, a rude man all around, keeping himself safe behind sharp, sarcastic words and humor, yet somehow managing a comradery within familiar faces that kept on showing themselves on the boats he found himself on. Then, of course, came the Fantasea- a boat he was the head of. They all say a captain should go down with his ship, and yet he found himself the only one left standing. Now? He's not quite sure what to do with himself.

dr. armaan atri

38; medic

rahul kohli

♡coded by uxie♡

character name: (doctor, formerly) armaan atri

character age: 38

character role: medical officer

faceclaim/image/description: rahul kohli. For being the place’s only medic, Armaan does always look shockingly sick. Be it the circles under his eyes, dark as bruises on some late nights, the disheveled and poorly maintained hair, or the generally greenish tint about his person that comes from the cruel irony of being stuck on a ship with chronic seasickness. Nearing 40, Armaan still looks relatively youthful on his best days. A constantly furrowed brow and well-set frown lines give the impression to those around him of being a miserable and mean-spirited fellow. And yet, his dark eyes glint with an underlying cunning and playfulness to those who know to look for it. He’s tall (too tall for the insides of a vessel like this ship, he likes to bemoan) at 6’2” and has a build that hints at past days of athletic endeavors. He dresses plainly now, with simple neutral slacks and tees or sweaters, though he used to indulge in $3000 suits and Rolexes. He still wears his wedding band.

character concept: Born in Mumbai as the oldest of a family of five, Armaan was brought into the world with the highest of expectations. His father’s only son, he was expected to represent his esteemed family in all he did - be it in sports, girls, or study - and he held a fair handle on all of them. He spent summers in London, where he mastered English. At eighteen, he attended prestigious universities in the US for an undergraduate degree in chemistry and a medical doctorate, graduating by the age of 25. In rapid succession, he married a childhood friend named Ansa at his parents’ insistence and moved her to New York so he could finish his residency. Things couldn’t have been better, right? By his mid-thirties, he was a father of twins, a successful surgeon, an owner in an Upper East Side co-op, and a Romeo in an imploding relationship with narcotics. In the course of only a few days, years of compounded substance abuse, relationships with dangerous people, and a deadly mistake that cost a patient her life all brought this overachiever’s life to a halt. What once was a California King Bed in a four bedroom on Second Ave is now a microscopic cot on a nauseating boat. Dreams really do come true.

cpt. Lawrence Fisher

27; expedition leader

james mcavoy

♡coded by uxie♡

character name: captain lawrence t. fisher

character age: 27

character role: expedition leader

faceclaim/image/description: james mcavoy. baby-faced for a captain, people often remark that lawrence looks younger than he actually is, much to his chagrin when his persona is one meant to project some form of officer-like authority. not one to be lax on procedure, he grooms himself to military manual perfection, making sure not even a single hair is out of place. he is obsessive about it, believing it has contributed to his rapid rise in the army through measured routine and discipline. most of the time you'll find him in uniform, unless he is off duty, with many remarking he hardly fills it out, his build not one of strength but one of lithe agility. he has tackled bulking in the past, to no avail.

character concept: lawrence's story is one many have trodden before, born to a career military family his father was already a colonel by his birth and a general by the time of his own graduation from west point. as always, in a family like that, the need to impress the patriarch is branded into the minds of the children at a young age, and much of his life has been spent in the pursuit of outdoing his two elder brothers. whilst the eldest became an investment banker on wall street, and the middle brother was busted for drug dealing down in miami, lawrence followed the exact career path of his father, hoping to please in the face of his hopeless siblings. in truth, in another life he might have chosen something different, but reality being what it is he has dedicated himself to the path he has chosen with exceptional single-mindedness, a captain by age twenty-seven. with his father on his deathbed, lawrence volunteered to lead the present expedition and was chosen by a senior board of officials after much evaluation. he hopes if he can crack this puzzle, get some results, his rise will only continue, and in the end his father will have truly been proud.

Sergeant Kenneth Lee

36; Comms

John Rawlinson

♡coded by uxie♡

character name: Sergeant Kenneth Lee

character age: 36

character role: formerly retired military comms

faceclaim/image/description: sergeant kenneth lee, embodies much of the handsomeness of the age, being tall, blonde, clean shaven, square jawed and blessed with broad shoulders. much of this is not his own doing however, and now mostly serves as the continued consequence of pattern and habit – instead of actual, personal interest and investment. having been made into ‘arm candy’ by his ex-wife, herself a stunning modern day ‘glass ceiling shattering’ business magnate, kenneth was sent to the military right out of high school, helping his young wife pay off her university debts. to her mind he was going to run around, get fit and get to wear a uniform around town. and while he developed a stern, attentive and rather severe look about him, his gentler side did not really fit any real aggressive posts – leading to him being assigned to comms. post his pseudo-retirement, he has continued to keep in good health, taking on the role of father which he believes has aged him far more than the stresses of military life ever did. as such he is not in peak physical condition as in his youth, his nearing middle age catching up to him much quicker than he expected.

character concept: kenneth was born in a small town, with small people, somewhere in the middle of nowhere. by ten his attention and curiosity had made him a stranger in his own home, and by the time he joined high school he was an awkward, tall son of farming stock – a few years away from settling with the neighbours daughter and fixing radios for a living. that was when he met sarah. the young woman raged against the fate set out for her, and his own - quieter – dissatisfactions with his fate were fired up when together, musing and plotting under the stars. together they worked hard, sarah much more so than he, till they graduated with high scores and higher-yet dreams. by then he had been made into playing football, made into wearing nicer clothes, made into speaking with a ‘city’ accent and made… better – for it. it was a strange thing, knowing that he was only taken because he was the best of the worst, and something worth making better – but he enjoyed her ideas and, even if nothing would come of it – at least she would be great for the both of them. the day after graduation she had him pack his things in his truck, and they set off before sunrise. a few days later they reached the ‘big apple’. needing money, she convinced him to join the military, with enlisting paying enough for her to get into a step-stone college. it was not exactly the life he had imagined, together at last in the city, but it made sense. the recruitment officer said they would also pay for his own studies eventually. it was the smart move. since then, many things had happened. he had risen in his position as comms expert, left the military to care for his daughter while trying to get his own degree – his now ex-wife having decided it was best they part – her new job not really giving her time for either him or their kid. now, shamefaced, having called his mother to come stay in his house and care for lindsay as she starts school, he has been forced to re-enter service, abandoning his hopes of a phd, in order to care for his girl. his time away form the military has seen him developing a much larger interest in electromagnetic radiation, and electrical engineering in general – having made many friends and met many interested parties. this has widened his understanding and provided him with not only a practical knowledge of the field, but also gifted him a very sensitive analytical talent as well – which was perfect when the current post opened. while worried about his safety, concessions and promises of hazard-cover for his kid should he die have assuaged his concerns. even if the worst would come of it – at least she would be great for the both of them.

character name: Dr. Hanz Jason Friedrich

character age: 47

character role: The Medic

faceclaim/image/description:

Glasses, full beard, dark brown hair

Tall and thin with a slight hunch

Wears a medical garb or his soldier uniform most of the time

Has good stamina and very dexterous hands

Very clean

character concept:

Coming from a line of famous german scientists and doctors, Hans focused on studying most of his life. He got into university earlier than most and finished with his doctorate in medicine and surgery. After working in a clinic for half a year he felt the work too unsatisfying and applied to the military to become a medic.

He got more than what he bargained for. After multiple deployments he was left as the lone survivor of his original squad, a dislike for killing, and PTSD. After this he went number and more withdrawn, detaching himself mentally while he works and only really feeling alive when he is alone. Though he can't bring himself to leave the military, trying to save as many soldiers as he can to ease his conscience.

Hans is a very scientific man, going so far as to reject every bit of superstition and religion. In his free time he likes to clean and organize as well as dissect all manners of biological samples that he gets his hands on or studying about biology.

Hans is aromantic and asexual, although he himself doesn't know that.
