Fantasy The Euranian rift

In a world known as Eurania, magic existed harmoniously within all humans for centuries. The people had their disputes but it was nothing dire. That is, until the Fire Monastery monks decided that those with lesser innate magic should be treated as lesser beings. Only the humans with strong raw magic dwelling within them would be given rights, and the weaker beings would cater to their new lords. There was much outrage, as people liked peace and there was no consistency with how magic passed through the bloodlines. The strongest people could give birth to someone with barely any magic at all.

Wishing to continue their elitist ways, the monks created the mountain range that encompasses their monastery. Limiting their interactions with other cities and monks they remain as strong as they can, trapping the lesser mages as servants.

These types of mages became known as bards, for they lived in constant partying and ecstasy. Their magic came about with vocal commands and was as volatile as the people wielding it. On the contrary, the monks within the Northern Way Monastery believe that magic is a crude tool. One that must be refined and perfected. These mages are known as poets, channeling their magic through runes etched onto various objects. Perfectionists, they lock themselves inside their monastery while they delve deeper into the workings of magic and inscribe rune after rune all to hone their abilities.

When the Fire Monastery sealed itself within the mountains the very essence of Eurania shuddered. The once harmonious flow of magic had been broken, causing a rift within the ley lines of magic. While people had once been able to freely practice magic as they wished, they were now locked into either being a bard or a poet.

50 years later, the god Sandalphon blessed five children with the power to use both bard and poet methods. There is a deep hatred between these two groups, and it is up to the blessed ones to begin healing the rift within Eurania.

"The children have grown, now we must push them towards their path... I have sat by idly long enough while the world was torn apart." Eistibus declared, leaving the divine pantheon to watch as he signaled the five blessed children. His mark, the magic circle, appeared over each of their heads to identify them as what they were to others and each other. The circle would hum if the child traveled in a direction that was not towards Droskyn, and shock them if they continued for too long.

Rei had been camping on the side of a mountain to the east of Iyrq when the mark appeared. He was immediately alert, fearing he had fallen into some poet's trap. However, when scanning the perimeter it stopped humming if he began down the mountain. Knowing enough about magic and the gods he decided to follow the mark, as it would likely only grow worse if ignored.

For two days he traveled until reaching the coast, feeling trumped he was ready to give up. Getting lost in an argument with himself about how to proceed he did not notice as he walked towards, and then onto the water; his magic being automatically channeled to his grieves. After about fifty feet he finally realized what was going on and smirked, he would get to wherever this mark wanted him in to time. Taking a moment to channel himself, Rei charged forward towards Droskyn at nearly super sonic speeds.

Anyuk was startled awake, a great disturbance had shook the leg lines of the world. Something powerful was residing in Droskyn and had sent out something to pull others there. Quickly grabbing his equipment the monk left his temple, only giving his second in command any word of his leaving. Whatever was happening would surely have dire consequences if not handled properly, and Anyuk would be damned if he didn't help when he could.

Ivory woke up with a start in the middle of the night to a steady humming sound coming from above her. She put it off as a piece of her imagination but after 10 minutes of the relentless sound she sprang out of bed and turned on the lamp at her bedside. She began to pace the room, brainstorming what this could be when she saw her reflection in the mirror, her jaw dropping as he saw the floating symbol above her head. She vaguely recognized it from one of the many books she had read in her time at the temple.

She went to one of the many shelves that surrounded her room and picked up the first book she saw, hoping that, against the odds, the first time would be the charm and she wouldn't spend her whole night searching for the symbol.Luck, or maybe something else, was on her side because the first page she flipped to depicted the symbol, telling her that it was the mark of the God Eistibus. She knew from other such readings that he was the God of balance and that he gifted humans with magic, however that was really all she knew of him.

She was baffled as to why such a God with bother marking her, as she herself didn't seem to possess and certainly had never practiced magic. All she really knew is while she sat idle the humming had gotten more incessant and that she must take action to find what this God could possibly want from her.

Ivory quickly packed a knapsack, changed into appropriate clothes, grabbed the dagger from beside her bed and stealthily left her room, not wishing to wake any sleeping bards or servants that could possibly try to stop her. While they had nothing bothered much with her due to her lack of magic she feared that seeing such a symbol above her would render her interesting and stop her from leaving and discovering what this was all about. As she headed to the front of the temple the humming became even louder and more obnoxious and by the time she reached the front gates it shocked her, causing her to cover her mouth to stifle a yelp. Ivory quickly turned around, attempting to remain silent as she escaped through the back of the temple and followed the roughly paved roads towards the coast.

Allanon broke the surface of the lake, gasping slightly as the cold air stung his face. Striking out, allanon started the swim back to the lakes shore, enjoying the predawn gray sky. As he waded ashore, he happened to look down. With a start, he saw the symbol of Eistibus floating over his head. Getting dressed, he began to walk back to Drex, hoping to ask the monks what it meant. An irritating buzzing suddenly filled his head, and the more he walked, the worst it got. Turning around, he started to hesitantly walk, and the buzzing went away. Sighing, he continued onward, both concerned, bit also excited for whatever was to come..

Rina sat alone in, what she had found to be the only library in the Bard Temple, late in the night, finding comfort and relief among a ficton book of fables and fairytales. All of the inhabitants of the temple were fast asleep, besides the guards that is. All was quiet. Until suddenly Rina heard a humming sound. Almost like the fluttering of a birds wings. At first it was soft, but with each passing second it grew louder and louder. Rina dropped her book and held her hands to her ears but the sound continued to grow and grow until finally, all was quiet once more. Rina slowly removed her hands from her ears and looked around. She had expected the noise to wake up everyone in the temple. She expected someone to come bursting through the library doors asking "what the hell was that?" But nobody came. Rina timidly got up and made her way towards the door. Passing by bookshelves as well as a mirror. She stopped dead in her tracks and stared at her reflection. Floating above her head was a glowing yellow symbol. She recognized it as a symbol from the gods. She was chosen. "What the...!?" She said almost screaming. At her words the mirror cracked and shattered. She walked backwards and hit a table, she sank to her knees and her thoughts began to race. "Why me?" She said to herself. "Why now?" Suddenly she saw an all too familiar blue light radiate from her hands. "No, no, no!" She said to herself but it grew brighter. She waved her hands away from her self only to knock down every bookcase and book in the library. It was a total mess. Rina knew this was due to her emotions. She hasn't lashed out like this in a very long time. And then it hit her. "Maybe this is the answer I've been looking for." She said gesturing to the glowing symbol that was floating above her head.

Rina carefully opened the door and peeked out into the hallway. With nobody in sight she made her way to her room. She gathered her brown bag she crafted herself and put in her book of spells, her headband as given to her by her teacher, and candles. Then she silently made her way into the kitchen and took a small water canister as well as food for her journey. She saw on the counter that they had leftover sweets from their party the night before, so she took those too. Then she creeped down the hallways. She didn't want to be seen by anyone. Not that anyone here didn't allow her to leave, but she currently had a glowing symbol floating above her head. She made her way to one of the many doors the temple had and opened it. She could see the first light of day beginning to peek out over the dark sky and she dashed into the woods, dissappearing from sight.

It was just a simple fishing trip. Etran was just supposed to join the fishermen on a simple expedition. Clean up the deck, help serve food, help prepare the fish and package them. But as he and the other men stood at the edge of the dock and watched a man out on the water running full spear across the top, he knew there was nothing simple about what was about to happen. Etran noticed the glowing disk above the running mans head at the same moment the fishermen noticed his. Fearing both their retaliation against the magic and what the disk could potentially do as it hummed above him Etran took off, figuring what better place to head than in the direction of the other disked man, towards the strange island. While etran was much slower in his boat he eventually made it to the coast of the island. Huffing with exhaustion.

As Rei drew closer to Droskyn, having long since hit land, he knew this was definitely the place he needed to be. Above the city was a ginormous magic circle, the same that floated above his head. Except this one was the size of the city, parallel to the ground, and rotating above the city. He was still several miles away but there was definitely something happening here. With a deep breath he focused himself and activated his grieves again to close the gap between him and the city.

Inside the city, many strange happening were going on. The wells had begun to spill fog into the streets, all of the guards immediately rushed in to investigate but as soon as they breathed it in they were incapacitated. Chunks of pure gold the size of basketballs rained from the sky, destroying buildings and murdering civilians. The floors of taverns became swamps and people drowned in their sleep. As the fog continued to roll out, eventually consuming everything within the city gates the town was left silent except the raining gold. Outside the perimeter of the gates, everything was normal, no sign of the occurring madness appeared to anyone that was not blessed. And even the blessed could only tell from the magic circle drawing them close.

Anyuk felt the ley lines leading towards the sky above Droskyn, yet could not see anything. With a careful approach he made his way to the front gates, only to find them locked. Not satisfied with giving up yet, the old monk sat in front of the gates to await any passing people who could hold new information.

Ivory's glowing mark led her to the coast but didn't allow her to stop there, drawing her to the city of Droskyn. After a while of searching she found a boat to take and begin to row, getting off once she hit land and continued to follow the vibrating mark, drawing her to its source with even more ferocity.

As she approached she could see the mark of Eistibus floating above the city, casting a strange light on everything it touched. She was cautious and nervous at the thought of voluntarily approaching such an ominous sight, but the pull of the Gods mark was too much to resist.

As she approached she saw an older man sitting by the gate but thought nothing of it as she pushed open the front gate and walked in. She took in the chaos in front of her, immediately regretting her decision to follow the mark, swallowing deeply as she took a step in.

Rei approached the city with caution, not knowing what lie ahead. Ahead of him he noticed a young girl walking towards the gate as well, also with the magic circle above her. Whatever this was, there was certainly more going on than what met the eye. Next to the gate sat an old man, a monk by the looks of it. As Rei drew closer he noticed the necklace around the man's neck, indicating him as a well versed poet. As much as Rei hated the inferior breed, their elders were incredibly dangerous and should be treated as such. With the girl disappearing into the city, Rei closed the space between him and the monk. "Poet, what are you doing here?"

Anyuk smiled up at the young man looking down to him, a magic circle floating above his head. "Ah, it would appear that you were drawn here just like the young girl. She was very rude, ignoring me as I await an order to help your quest."

"Poet, I asked for your business here." Rei replied, struggling to control his anger. Electricity began to arc between his fingers, the bars magic within starting to grow.

"Calm down young man, I am here to help. I cannot see the chaos within the city but I sense it. And what kind of monk would I be to not help those chosen by the gods? I do not want a fight young man." Anyuk began to stand, pretending to be as out of shape as an 86 year old should be, his joints cracking as he struggled to lean against his staff. "But if combat is the only language you speak, I can translate."

Rei had a soft spot for old people, after his caretaker, and felt something almost like pity for the old man. "Just don't get in my way." He growled, turning and heading into the city. Rei gasped in awe as he saw what was going on, the sheer unadulterated chaos. In front of him was the girl from before, apparently also taking in the events happening. "Seems simple enough, kill whoever is behind this." Rei said with a chuckle, noting the bard clothes the girl wore.

Etran finally made it to the city, a giant glowing circle glowed above the city, one that matched his own. He noticed two others in front of him with matching disks. He approached the man, who wore the robes of a bard. “Do you know why I have this glowing thing above me by any chance?” Etran glanced over at the girl, also in bards robes, who seemed captivated by something it was at this moment he finally paused and looked around. The city before them seemed to mirror his own home. Chaos and violence everywhere. He had become so desensitized to Turmoil that he hasn't even noticed it at first.

Ivory looked around, entranced by the chaos surrounding her. She glanced behind at the old poet and thr young bard, who seem to be engaged in an aggressive conversation. She continued forward into the city, trying to figure out the meaning of calling her there. The next time she turned around she saw 2 boys about her age behind her, one in poets clothing and the other dressed in bards clothes, both with the same floating marks above their heads.
