B A S I C

Name: Lina Mandira
Age: 19
Gender: Female

P E R S O N A L

Personality: Eccentric and out-of-touch with reality. A lot of the stuff she says doesn't make any sense to most and her reason for ascending Eobine is mere curiosity. Death itself doesn't scare her, in fact, she's only afraid of rather trivial things like mice, snakes and deep water. Lina also believes in demons and that she has communicated with them in the past. She likes to cook and believes she's very good at it. But she's not. While she's generally kind to people, she doesn't have a good grip on people's emotions and can infuriate them unintentionally because she doesn't realise they're getting pissed off. She struggles socially, though she's actually quite extroverted and tries to take on a leadership role when she can.

Appearance: As seen below.

410567dccbb81b66a7b6b0bb3eafb490.jpg

Inventory: Herbs, spices and things that are supposed to help with various illnesses but probably don't. She also carries with her a bedroll, matches, a teddy bear named Bloop, mints, and a flute.
Skills/Talents: Cooking (or so she thinks), basic medical training, knowledge of herbs, good climber (but bad runner), also does a great squirrel impression.

Backstory: To summarise, she's from a background of very busy people who were important in art, medicine, sports, math, and a great many other things. With so many people giving her so many different potential directions in life, she's got no idea now what she wishes to do. Also, her social and possible mental issues seem to be due to several near death experiences when she was younger. She was in and out of hospital constantly for the first several years of her life, and despite the minimal remaining physical impacts of this, doctors were shocked at the time that she actually survived. It's possible that many of her strange memories from that time never actually happened.

B A S I C

Name:Kerrian Aushun(Kerr)
Age:31
Gender:Male

P E R S O N A L

Personality:Kerrian is an objective driven individual. He doesn't tolerate dawdling and idling, preferring to complete his objectives as quick and efficiently as possible. When not on any assignments or missions, he's more relaxed, helping his peers on whatever endeavours they may need. Even though he has no problem with his appearance, he doesn't take his mask off much, for fear of retaliation upon seeing his visage. However, when in a close group or with someone who already know of his appearance, he has no quarrel in walking around maskless.
Appearance:

a_white_robed_cultist_by_sir__render_da23xbx-pre.jpg
ea709e359e3b26af8df6c82071cc7e51.jpg

Inventory:
Tattoo Kit: Even after his mistake, Kerrian still practices his craft. Several different inks are found on his bag, along with mythril needles and a custom made machine, able to infuse the skin of his customers more efficiently.
Containment Robe: His robe is enchanted, able to stop the decay of his body due to his condition. However, even this powerful piece of equipment will be rendered ineffective.
Skills/Talents:
Tenebrium: The element that twisted Kerrian's body into what he is today still courses through his body. The body-wide tattoo has three main functions:
Reshape - Kerrian can extend and contract parts of his body to an extent. He still needs to retain his basic form(two arms, two legs, one head), but he can reshape his appendages to suit his needs. He can also harden the ends of his appendages to either attack or defend.
Disrupt - Kerrian can use the Tenebrium in his body to disrupt enemies abilities and magic. He must stay in contact with the target, and he can only use this ability for so long until it starts becoming painful.
Consume - Kerrian is often reluctant in using this ability, but he found that it's the only way to extend the stability of his body. He can consume magic-able individuals, feeding upon their life essence to extend his own.

Backstory: Before his mistake, Kerrian was a prominent tattoo artists in Gannor's Cross, a large city on the south of the Eulsaric Empire. Seeking fame, and not content with using the same old inks as everyone else, he started to research and use different materials to improve on his inks, mainly using his own skin as a canvas for experimentation. Some were unsuccessful, and were quickly forgotten, buried under cover-ups and magical removal items. Others, however, flourished, potentializing the designs and bestowing additional effects on the tattoos. His clientele was diverse, and he didn't turn a customer down only because of their side of the law. He worked for both law abiding citizens and criminals, including the Gold Blood, a famous criminal group in the southern area of the Eulsaric Empire. His specialty were control spells, disrupting and controlling matter and even other wizards' powers. Soon he grew in popularity, several people coming from neighboring towns to get tattooed, and even his non-magical tattoos were highly sought after. However, his experiments took a heavy, and potentially fatal toll on the artist.

His greed and pride grew bigger, and with that, his experiments grew bolder. He started using more and more obscure materials, eventually setting his gaze on the "anti-magic" properties of Tenebrium, a rare ore found deep underground. His idea was to make his most intricate tattoo, which would give the user Anti Magic powers, able to dispel and destroy artifacts and tattoos alike, one of the most powerful spells that he could think of. He carefully prepared the ink over months, liquefying the Tenebrium and distilling it over and over again, until finally, the glowing purple, swirling ink was concocted. He was both concerned and prideful: He wasn't going to test it on anyone else, fearful of the side effects, but he also wanted the power that the ink would bestow him. He drew the design and tattooed it on his chest.
1560217567775.png

The effect was slow and excruciating. Kerrian's tattoos reacted with the Tenebrium, Both magic and anti-magic clashed within, consuming both the ink and flesh of Kerrian. He screamed in pain for what seemed like hours, and lost consciousness. When he woke up, he couldn't recognize himself in the mirror. A twisted mass of tenebrium stared back at him, a monument to his hubris. He studied his body for days, discovering the effects that the Tenebrium did on his body, along with the powers that came along. He finally came to a grim realization: The Tenebrium was eating the magic force in his body, and soon, he would perish. After getting some help of his peers, he spent all of his wealth in the Containment Robe, considerably slowing his decay, and set out in the world, looking for a cure, or even a form to stabilize his body. He eventually set his eyes on the Great Tree, Eobine, and traveled to the island of Leranor, to both amass funds for his research and maybe find a solution to his plight.

Often, she wants to be alone if possible. But, understands when it’s practical. Even though she doesn’t show it, Lorelei cares deeply about people. She wants to believe the books she reads that everyone is born good. And will stick to that belief. However, when she gets angry, she is just like he says: ruthless.

587446

Skills/Talents: Proficient at agility and combat, mainly using her daggers and speed. Fast reader, at least she likes to think she is. Pretty good at card games.

Backstory: Her Father were infamous criminals, to say crime wasn’t in her blood would be a lie. Almost. When she was younger, her mother hid the two of them trying her best to keep them both alive as her father hunted them down. However, her father eventually killed her mother while Lorelei was away. Attempting to get revenge she tried to kill her father only for her to get caught and send away to a correctional school close to the tree in order to straighten her out. This didn’t work as she immediately escaped and lost herself in the biggest city she could find.

And in the city she joined her father’s enemy criminal group the Gold Blood only at the age of 13. She went to a famous tattoo artist, Kerrian Aushun which she felt was the only decent human being in this world. While this magic did a number to her at the beginning, she trained in order to master it and most importantly, kill. She killed whoever the Leader wanted her to, and aimed to hone her craft to eventually kill her father and after, her Leader.

This never came to fruition as she was caught and taken to prison where she would eventually be executed. Until, her father came to release her, only on a condition.

Why are they going on this expedition: The deal she made with her father, which is bring back as much treasure as she can find and whatever else that will benefit him. If she dies then, she would be no different than now. If not and she brings what he likes, her life will be spared.

B A S I C

Name: Abalista Munina
Age: 22
Gender: Female

P E R S O N A L

Personality: She is an adventurer at heart. She loves to spend her time outside exploring the tree and is so not accustomed to talking to people except about the tree itself or about the trinkets she’s been able to make. As such, she typically comes off as very blunt and doesn’t find time for idle conversation.

Appearance:
587498 She is female, but this is the type of outfit she wears. Sturdy clothing that protects her.
587499 Her cheeks aren't as rosy and her skin is paler, and her eyes often change colors and almost look like tiny universes (The adverse effect to using so much magic)
587503 Hairstyle and color to accommodate for her tattoo. Head is shaved at the back. Color is also an adverse side effect to the magic.

Inventory:

She had it made specifically to accommodate for most dangers she could think of from beastly, to atmospheric, to poison, to weapons, to weather. Each part of the tattoo lights up bright white when it is activated

591707 Last minute tattoo. It's specific purpose is focusing and drawing in oxygen.

587506 Staff made from the wood of Eobine and imbued with magical abilities to give it a little extra oomph. Can also be used as a light source.
591708She also has a set of 4 bracelets she wears that each have a single bead in it, used for emergencies as well as a small bag filled with extras (They need to go into the bracelets to charge. Some of the purposes include: Smokebomb, healing, poison, emergency rations, etc.

591709 Another last minute decision, these goggles have different filters made from thin sheets of crystals. Uses include: Infrared, lack of light, and a special darkness.

591715 Does not actually glow... yet

Skills/Talents: Tinkerer: She is exceptionally skilled in the creation and improved creation of small devices and items. She has spent many years of her life traveling up the tree and discovering new things, that she has been able to utilize them in items she can carry.

Parkour: She is also fairly skilled with this. Adaptability and flexibility have often been a necessity, so she has trained herself to be adept at it.

Backstory: Aba’s entire life has revolved around the tree. From a young age, she has been found trying to scale it’s large trunk, and her parent’s hadn’t been able to stop her. She had no reason as to why she felt the need to climb, she just knew she had to.Her parents then made the decision to move to the base of the tree, farther away from its influences and closer to a larger population of people.

She spent the next several years living normally, attending school, doing chores, and making friends. It was a normal and boring life for her, but she knew at some point she would need the information she learned there later in life because the tree never stopped calling to her, no matter how far away she moved. She studied as much as she could and prepared herself. When the age of 16 came, she bid her parents goodbye and set off on her own. She knew her parents didn’t approve, but the time had been long coming and they knew it. They gave her what they could, but bid her farewell. For the next 6 years, she spent her time exploring as much of the tree as she could. She ventured further and further up, mapping out the strange territories, finding unique and rare items, and preparing herself for the more dangerous territories. At some point, she had come across a strange animal that lingered wherever she went, so she took him under her wing and kept him as a companion. Even with him it was a lonely life and sometimes she longed for something other than the constant call of adventure, but she knew it wouldn’t stop until she had been successful.

So, when she discovered there was a group forming to travel up the tree, she was more than excited to join. She prepared as much as she could, even made an extra trip up the tree to gather moss and other supplies.

Zuzu

587665

A strange animal Aba found on one of her trips. He (Or she, no idea but she often refers to it as a he and seems to respond well to it) followed her around for the rest of her exploration and has stayed with her ever since. Very protective of her, he typically stays in the shadows, watching and lingering from afar when she is near and in towns. But, as soon as she gets up into the actual tree, he typically stays perched on her shoulder or is found winding around her feet. He makes similar noises to foxes and seems to be highly intelligent. He won't actively guide her, but can tell when danger is near and has nudged her away from seemingly dangerous areas and specific items (Plants and such).

david-edwards-madscientist-005.jpg

Age: 67
Gender: Male

Personality: Doc Maddon is an infinitely curious individual who will go to extreme lengths to further his own understanding of even the most trivial of affairs. He has a limited grasp of typical social conventions like personal boundaries and self awareness, and has a tendency to be somewhat over-dramatic at times. He is not particularly boastful about his intelligence, and instead prefers to let his own handiwork display his wisdom.

Inventory: An array of corked test tubes are arranged neatly inside Maddon's satchel, empty or containing various elements. Syringes, conical flasks, a scalpel, and a magnifying glass dangle freely from small loops on his belt.

Skills/Talents: Maddon is an extraordinarily skilled chemist, and is able to concoct potions that can be used to aid his allies or debuff hostile creatures. He can create these potions using the essence of dead creatures, and the effects of the potions depend on their ingredients. Additionally, and somewhat bizarrely, Maddon is surprisingly agile for someone his age, and scaling the tree is well within his physical limits.

Backstory: If there's one thing Maddon can't stand, it's a question he doesn't know the answer to. So when the question "what's at the top of Eobine?" is thrown around with only pure speculation in the way of answers, it's only natural that Maddon threw himself at the opportunity to find out. For as long as his career, Maddon has been under frequent scrutiny by fellow scientists, and Maddon hopes that by writing a paper on the full nature of Eobine, he'll clear his name and earn respect from his peers.

Maddon's youth was spent learning to become an alchemist, and much of his career has been devoted to devising new potions. His longest and perhaps most unsuccessful pursuit was the creation of an elixir that could grant eternal life, and the mere attempt cost him a considerable amount of credibility. He believes that this missing piece to his immortal puzzle may even lie in the unexplored canopy of Eobine.

B A S I C

Name: Arthur Breines
Age: 18
Gender: Male

P E R S O N A L

Personality:
Arthur is, essentially, a young man trying very hard to be perceived as an adult. Despite his attempts to seem mature and collected, it takes little pushing to reveal the more stubborn, hot-headed side of him, and bringing up his age or questioning his abilities is a sure fire way to make him lose his cool completely. Although he likes to think he keeps himself guarded.. the kid is an open book; you can tell his emotions just by looking at his face. He's generally an amicable person, if not a little bit too honest at times, but if the conversation veers anywhere towards a debate, complications start to appear, and he's constantly butting heads with authority figures.

There's something in Arthur's brain that just won't let him give up on something. People tell him this stubbornness will get him killed.. but he reasons that if he's came this far, he must be doing something right. This means that not only is Arthur unlikely to drop a plan until he's finished it, he also never wants to leave people behind. Although sometimes his quickness to anger and bluntness can give the impression he's selfish and doesn't care about people; this couldn't be further from the truth, and he'll go to great lengths to protect people to the best of his ability, even those he doesn't get along with.

Appearance:
587837

(I'm not good at drawing men so this turned out kinda weird but I tried)
Inventory:
- Journal:
A journal left by his sister. It's very cryptic, and he can make very little of it, except for two things: there's something wrong with Eobine, and his sister left to find out what. Given that she left it behind despite it seeming to have a lot of information on it, part of him wonders if she left it for him on purpose.

- Blade: A blade he purchased. It initially looks like some odd dagger with a bulky handle, but the blade can further extend into a sword. Apart from that it's unremarkable, save for a minor enchantment placed on it that intensifies the sharpness of it slightly.

- Potions:
An assortment of various medical potions, not very strong, but definitely make up a decent first aid kit. There's also a few items in there to further help with first aid, like swabs and plasters, but not much.

-
Tattoo: A sleeve tattoo that is normally obscured by his clothing. The tattoo allows him to heat up or set fire to anything he's touching. You usually need to be focusing on using this ability to do this, although moments of uncontrolled emotion can trigger this ability too, making it perhaps not the most sensible choice for the hot-headed Arthur. Regardless, he's decent at controlling it, and hasn't burned any buildings down yet..

- Flame-Resistant Gloves: He tells everyone that he's a master at controlling his ability and that these are simply a precaution. Safe to say he's being a little bit dishonest there, but at least he's wearing them.

Skills/Talents:

Decent at sword combat, but he hasn't trained for very long in it, and definitely hasn't fought against any opponents that actually want to cause him harm, so it's safe to say he's lacking experience.
Given that he lived without a mother for a significant portion of his life, and then eventually without any family at all, he's practical and generally knows how to take care of himself, and others.

Backstory:

Although he never set foot onto Leranor before the age of 18, Arthur has a personal history with Eobine.

He grew up in a tiny, middle-of-nowhere town across the sea, impoverished and living with a family of 5. The allure of Eobine drew many people out of his village - for fame, for a chance to do something with their lives, but mainly for money. Eventually, it drew his father out, too, and the family became 4. His father, wanting to give the family a better chance at life, got a job over there as an Extractor with the goal of making enough money there to eventually move the rest of them over to him.. but the months turned to years, and the years added up, and eventually they'd find out he'd gotten with another woman overseas, before he promptly cut contact with them and disappeared from their lives fully.

Next, it was his brother. His mother had fallen sick, and nothing they tried was saving her. Grasping at straws, his oldest brother left for Eobine, having heard about an ingredient found in one of the more dangerous layers, that was some sort of 'miracle cure'. Extracters with the specific role of rounding up bodies found on Eobine later sent the Breines family a package containing his belongings, and their condolences.

4 became 3, then 2 as his mother finally succumbed to illness. She'd been in so much pain for the past few months that Arthur was almost thankful, but deep down he couldn't help feel guilt that he couldn't have done more, and anger towards his father that he'd left them in a situation like this. Now, it was just him and his eldest sister, although only by one year. She was a budding tattoo artist, with the most promising future between the two - although he wasn't of age yet, when he was 17, she gave him a small, almost hidden tattoo on the back of his neck, intended to lightly ward off illness and bad omens, although he figured the latter half was just nonsense. She promised him when he was 18, she'd do a tattoo of his choosing.. but she didn't stick around long enough for that to happen.

Thinking about it, he should've seen it coming. In the past few months she'd seemed distracted and distant, and had suddenly became way more insistent on teaching him how to look after himself 'in case anything happens'. She'd disappear for long periods at night when she thought he was asleep, and was largely absent during the day too. Then, finally, one day he came home to a huge jar of money resting on the kitchen table, and an apology note. And nothing else. No explanation, no telling him where she had gone or when she'd be back - because, he assumed, she wouldn't be. 2 became 1, and although Arthur tried to carry on his life as usual, there was this nagging feeling in his head that there was still something he could do. It was this nagging feeling that caused him to search her room, and there, underneath a loose floorboard, was a journal. Her journal.

He understood very little of it - it was full of cryptic notations and diagrams, even sections that had to be in some sort of other language or code, and it was very difficult to make sense of what it was supposed to be telling him, but he understood one thing: It had to do with Eobine. The word cropped up so many times in the journal, it was impossible to ignore. For whatever reason, yet again, another of his family members had been drawn out to that damn tree. Arthur realised partway through one of his near-fruitless attempts to decode the journal that now, it was drawing him out, too.

The next year, he spent preparing. He used part of the savings left by his sister and bought equipment, he spent nights pouring over the journal and adding his notations and conclusions (with little success), and in the day he'd practice with his newly-bought blade. When he hit 18, he got his second tattoo - not small and benign like most coming of age tattoos, but a full arm sleeve, enchanted and all. The artist was at first hesitant to give him it, but caved when Arthur showed them the money. It took him a little more time to adjust to the abilities that this new tattoo had given him, especially since he was now particularly.. flammable. He travelled across to the edge of his country, ran out of money, snuck onto a cargo ship to Leranor, took a brief job at the docks and then travelled up Eobine to Helmfirth, where he put out his call to action - he was going to be travelling up Eobine as far as he could get, until he was satisfied, until he had whatever answers he was looking for. Arthur was determined enough he was prepared to go alone if he really had to, but even he realised that was suicide. Although a lot of people were.. sceptical of his offer, on account of him being so young, and the aim of the expedition being way less focused and planned out than more professional expeditions - hell, it didn't even have a set goal - there were a few that accepted. That brings us up to now, as he waits to meet his new team.

Why are they going on this expedition:
It's difficult for him to pin down why exactly he came to Leranor. There's part of him that wants to find out why this one tree drove so many people away from their homes and to their deaths. There's part of him that wants to understand what was so important about Eobine that his sister had to leave, and a part of him that wants to understand the cryptic contents of that journal. There's even a small part of him that wonders if he might find his sister again.

Rokka Mokona
588034
Overview

Theme song:

Name; Rokka Mokona
Age: 21
Gender: female

Personality: Rokka is a dreamer stuck in reality. Her dream? Become the most famous explorer by ascending to the top of Eobine AND going back to tell the tale. The reality? She's just a clepherd, at least for now. She's especially interested in the fauna in Eobine, she even put 'riding a wailark' as one of the thing in her bucket list.

Backstory: Rokka lives in the Eobine 6.5th layer along with her father. Though she last seen her father almost two years ago due to his job as Fortida company's explorer. She work as a clepherd and can usually be seen on the Eobine 9th layer to let her cleeps graze. One day she found a rock letter that seems to be from his father, some of the text was unreadable but "#### #ome #er#, Rokka" seems like an invitation from her father to join the adventure, right? Time to sell all her cleeps and start climbing!

Skills
- cleep handling: due to her previous job as a clepherd, she can befriend cleep easily.
- fauna enthusiast: has a wide range of knowledge regarding the fauna in Eobine, at least the known ones.
- survivalist: Rokka is resourceful. She can craft simple tools from raw resources.

Equipment
- flare gun: a gun that she used to drive away predator from eating her cleeps
- impwings: six of them. Who know what will happen up there? At least someone down here will know about their fate.
- Speargun: Her brand new weapon that use compressed air to launches the mounted spear. It's still shiny and she's a bit hesitant to use it.
- lifeline vest: by pulling a series of strings, she can puff her vest and make her float midair. The vest need some float element as fuel in order to do this.
- zooming goggle: her goggle can zoom up to ten times. Quite useful for spotting things from afar.
- rope: Simple but versatile tool. Rokka can use her rope as lasso to grab things from a distance. She can make stretcher in emergency and many more.
- electro shock tattoo: a simple tattoo on her left hand that allows her to shoot a weak lightning attack. It can easily stun cleep but is not lethal. She must put away her gloves first before she can use it.

Why join the expedition: time to realize her dream! Finding her father up there is a bonus!

Cleep: a species of sheep that can only be found in Eobine. They can float and have very fluffy wool. They flap their extraordinarily large ears as wings. Cleep has been domesticated long before the empire claimed the land. Now they're used as a source for meat, wool and float element.

Clepherd: people who tends to their flock of cleeps. I know, very creative indeed.

Eobine 6.5th layer, Fortida Platforma: an entire layer made from steel platform. It's made by the Fortida Company to house their employees. Because Rokka's father is one of them, she get to live in this layer.

Fortida Company: a company that build their techs into the tree. The traditional natives hate the company for this, but there's no denying that the platforms and elevators they built make living in Eobine so much easier.

Eobine 9th layer, Hasture Greezer: a layer of Eobine with surprisingly large grassland. Clepherds like to let their cleep graze by themself here. A lot of tourists also come here to try petting the cleeps.

Rock letter: an old method used by Eobine explorer to send message to the lower layer. They carve the message on a round rock and enchant its durability. Then they throw the rock into nearby cliff and hope the rock will roll to the very bottom of the tree.

Impwings: a new device used by Eobine explorer to send message to the lower layer. Impwings is a simple bamboo pipe with enchanted leather wings, it will flaps its wings and slowly descend to the bottom. Put the message inside the pipe and throw it into nearby cliff. It's not perfect but impwings will try its best to steer from obstacles. Those flying predator might think its a snack though so explorer usually use at least three impwings to send one message.

Wailark: a 50 meters flying whale. Only seen once 200 years ago when a dying wailark suddenly fell and crush a village. Its massive skeletons still remain but another wailark was never seen again.

Name: Elias J. Lamont
Age: 23 years old
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Occupation: Scholar of the Eobine Research Union

[div class=headerleft]Appearance[/div]
[div class=tri]
[/div]
Elias is often referred to as being "the short chap that looks like a cherub," something that he vehemently disagrees with, adamant that 177cm is a perfectly respectable height. Unfortunately for him, people are right when they say he looks a lot younger than his age, his fair complexion highlighting the boyish charm of his face, paired with delicate features. To make up for this, Elias has built up some lean muscle over time which keeps him well proportioned.

As for attire, Elias wears a white long-sleeved shirt (with the top two buttons left undone) half tucked into form-fitted black trousers, accompanied with black, shin-length boots. Over this, he wears his beloved coat in an appealing shade of burgundy, the length reaching to about mid-calf which allows him to do what he dubs "the cool swoosh effect." A black leather glove covers left hand which some may notice as always rigidly fixed to his side, and like any good scholar, he usually has a sturdy leather satchel slung over one shoulder.

[div class=headermain]Personality

At first glance, Elias is a bright and charismatic individual. There is a magnetic attraction about him that makes him approachable, and many find it easy to open up to him. He's a skilled and sociable conversationalist, completely within his element when surrounded by other people, and he wields the ability to draw the more introverted characters out of their shells with just a few charming smiles.

However, he's not someone to be taken lightly - he is a very straightforward person, so he has no problem with saying exactly what's on his mind, especially when confronting the attitudes of the unsavoury sorts. Even though he is talkative by nature, Elias is very guarded and reserved when it comes to talking about the more personal details of his life, giving others the impression that despite his amiable disposition, the people that he wholeheartedly trusts are few and far between. He's a man with secrets, that's for sure.

As a researcher, Elias has always had an insatiable thirst for knowledge that can never truly be satisfied and, as a result, his curiosity knows no bounds. To him, knowledge holds an unimaginable power that takes root as the foundations for building a successful life. He is extremely dedicated to his studies, with everything that he does to unravel the mysteries of his world being performed with meticulous and precise accuracy; the lesson that there can be no room for error having been drilled into his head from the moment he was born.

Although he has a genuine and laid-back demeanour, it would be unadvised to disturb him in the midst of his work - his colleagues at the EUR can testify for his legendary temper. Despite this, Elias would never be the type to make rash decisions without a second thought, the process of weighing the pros and cons beforehand and looking at the situation from every angle comes to him as naturally as breathing.

Elias is also a very driven individual when it comes to pursuing his passions and can be extremely headstrong when it comes to his own beliefs and values, determined to defend them no matter what. As a consequence, he can come across as rather obstinate, unwilling to bend for the sake of someone else unless the path to achieving his goals and fulfilling his ambitions are subsequently compromised.

[div class=headermain]Inventory[/div]
- Sensibilis: The enchanted tattoo that covers the entirety of Elias' left arm; however, he would use the term "tattoo" loosely. It is certainly no work of art, and resembling more like heavy scarring than anything to be proud of. It is an indiscernible mess, slashes of violent black lines marring his skin, wrapping around him in a vice-like grip. If one were to look closely, they would see it slither languidly, almost as if it were sentient. When he traces the pattern with his other hand, the black lines peel away to become a tangible whip-sword created from the ink but retaining the sharpness and lethality of any other weapon. It can function normally a sword, but based on Elias' intent, the blade will separate into segments on the coil of a whip. It was a tattoo acquired through illegal means, so it does not come without its consequences - the high price to pay was Elias' use of his left arm.

- Leather journal: Whilst on an expedition, it would be blasphemy for a researcher to not bring something to record his findings in. He's decided to write an account about his adventure on a day-to-day basis... and no, it's not a diary.

- Dicto Quill: When intensely focused, Elias' inquisitive mind tends to derail onto one track, so he finds himself in a flurry of multitasking. The Dicto Quill (specially enchanted to have self-sustaining ink for another pretty penny) is attuned to Elias' voice and writes down what he says, allowing him to write whilst using his other hand to do something else.

- Extractor Kit: Provided to him by the EUR. Although they didn't approve of his plan to scale Eobine, they said he "might as well make himself useful" by taking samples of anything new that he comes across in the upper layers. Equipped with a range of cutting tools and storage space that has been enchanted to preserve whatever's put in there.

[div class=headermain]Backstory[/div]
The Lamont Family.

It's a name that sends ripples of unease throughout the exploration community. A black mark on the stride towards discovery. A cursed name.

The Lamonts were once a proud and noble family at the heart of the Euslaric Empire, vaults full of gold and strong connections with the elite and most influential. Those were the golden days; a time before they took an interest in Eobine. A Lamont's involvement with the Great Tree was always sure to end in disaster, misfortune would always fall upon them in one way, shape or form for generations. The family line ended up losing their many prestigious titles and respect when they hid away in reclusive solitude, all because they were like moths drawn to a flame. They would feel an irresistible pull to that island shrouded in mystery, their blood would sing with an overwhelming desire to go there and explore. Elias' parents were no different. In the early years of his childhood, he remembers being taken care of primarily by his Aunt Miriam whilst they were away on their own expeditions. It was a lonely time for him, but he would give anything to have that back if he knew what was going to come next.

One day, his parents came back... changed. There was a deranged look in their eyes, smiles all too sharp. Something on that island had changed them for the worse, and it absolutely terrified him. Again and again, he would be subjected to listening to their mad ravings about the tree, about how it held all the answers to the problems. The family legacy would be restored if only they could get to the top. To think that he would be safe from their wild ambitions would be a naive and optimistic way of thinking.

When Elias was twelve, he was taken away by his parents under the cover of darkness to this shady, back street basement somewhere in the slums of the capital city. They'd hired a tattooist from the Black Market to give him an illegal tattoo, one that they had claimed would only continue to benefit him in the future when they passed on their self-imposed mission to him. Elias didn't want it, who knew if this so-called tattooist was 100% certified? Such a large tattoo, one that would grow with him as he aged, wasn't made to be put on a child's body. What if something happened to him? But the refusals died on his tongue when he saw the hope and pride on their faces... they had never looked at him like that before. Gritting his teeth, Elias offered his arm.

It felt like liquid fire was coursing through his veins, daggers of agony piercing straight through him as layers of his skin began to melt, boiling heat circuiting throughout his body. It was the last thing that his left arm would ever feel. The process rapidly took a toll on his exhausted state, and he quickly slipped into unconsciousness. When he awoke, tucked up into his own bed, his arm was left raw, exposed and disfigured with violent slashes of black wrapped around it. He'd cried out when he found that he couldn't feel it, dissolving into a sobbing wreck of distraught tears. The damage, it would seem, was permanent. His parents had tried to soothe him, reassuring him that it would "save his life." He didn't believe them, not whilst their minds were still poisoned by whatever it was that had changed them.

It took Elias another two years for him to come to terms with the disability that was a result of his parent's decisions, but he knew he needed to overcome and adapt to this new challenge in his life. He was also beginning training sessions with his father, beginning to walk the path on becoming well-versed with the weapon lying beneath his skin. It was an extremely difficult endeavour, the whip sword seeming to possess some sentient-like qualities was downright difficult and unruly to work with. Elias has his fair share of scars all over his body from the number of times that something went wrong.

The death of his father came as a sudden shock. He was just at the wrong place at the wrong time when the infrastructure collapsed; an accident - but to Elias, it felt like the family curse was coming to bite them. His mother's grief took a downward spiral on her mental health, her days spent staring listlessly into space. When Aunt Miriam was allowed back into the family home (after having been turned away for the past two years) she saw that her sister was in no condition to care for Elias, so she moved in and sent him away to a private boarding school which he would attend until he was 18. After leaving school, he made just one visit to his childhood home, and something happened there which made him never look back - a new goal firmly in sight.

Elias passed the Eobine Research Union's entrance examination with flying colours and has spent the last five years climbing the ranks into becoming a notable member in the team of specialists who dedicate their lives to unravelling the mysteries of the Great Tree.

[div class=headermain]Reason for going on the expedition:[/div]
There are many reasons as to why Elias has joined this expedition. First and foremost, he is going on this journey to fulfil his parent's dreams, as well as to sate his own curiosity. He also hopes to find a cure to his mother's weakening state and potentially get rid of the effects of her last expedition that still plagued her for years. Finally, Elias wants to leave his mark on the world - he wants to be remembered for accomplishing something great, and bring back the Lamont family name out from the mud.

However, finding a place on a team of explorers was no easy task. Again, the burden of Elias' name became a heavy weight to carry after multiple rejections of his applications to numerous professionally organised expeditions.

Just when it had seemed like he was already stumbling over his first hurdle, a golden opportunity fluttered before his very eyes. Quite literally. Elias snatched up the advertising flyer without a second thought, eyes devouring the information laid bare before him. The team leader was young, and it was an amateur request... but it gave him hope.

A hope that only continued to rise over the hills when he received his acceptance letter, and without further delay, Elias made his way to Helmfirth.[/div][/div] [/div]

    personality.
An adventurous spirit disguised as a magic technician, Spinel is one whose actions follow a certain train of logic yet often end with catastrophically irrational outcomes. Regardless of the consequences, her enthusiasm remains wholly undeterred. Perhaps it’s simply that she doesn’t care, some say. However, her seemingly unrivaled naivete belies her perceptive nature. When the circumstances call for it, the teen, though small, is someone capable of toiling away to come up with a dependable solution. The only obstacle that keeps her from such is the very blood of adventurers which flows within her. To her, decisions are like a journey of their own. Once you walk forward, you can never go back, yet the road not taken is always that which one most regrets. Thus, the only “correct” path is the one you personally believe in, regardless of the risks or repercussions involved.

With this belief in hand, Spinel Claret is as stubborn as they come. If her path is blocked, she’ll find every loophole that can allow her to continue onwards to her desired result. Likewise, her parents’ barring the usage of enchanted tattoos only birthed a greater desire to explore the depths of magic. From the end result of said ban, it can be just as easily declared that Spinel does not fear wasting additional effort and resources for the sake of her goals. Though her spoiled upbringing may explain her flamboyance.

Alice Kibido
B A T T L E---F L O R I S T 🌷

Age: 24
Gender: F

Personality:

Alice is what her father would call a go-getter, and what her mother would call an annoying brat. This young businesswoman walks with an air of enthusiastic confidence and authority, but not for a need to control others. Instead, she controls her own actions, stubbornly refusing to be told what to do and only following others if she feels she couldn't lead the situation better. She prefers to do things herself first, then ask for help later - not caused by contempt towards others, but simply out of oblivious self-dependence. This can lead to her decision-making being sometimes too rushed, as she chases after her goals with little regard to co-operation if she isn't held back. Socially, this drive and proactivity can be channeled to her charisma, making her a tough but convincing negotiator in business. Alice can sometimes find it hard to not constantly think about her work, as it is what she enjoys most in life - unfortunately, this can make off-work conversations with her a little one-sided as she drones on about her passion in flowers and plants.

Inventory:
  • Shears, jars and notepad - for any flowers found on the way to the top, along with a set of specially unbreakable jars for the extra exotic ones.
  • Special fertilizer - made from the excrement of every two-, four- and five- legged creature you know, designed to keep any plant fed for decades.
  • Company Insignia - useful to get through any level-three floral security.
  • Pocket Knife - you can never be too safe.

Skills/Talents:
  • Floral Wisdom - Being a florist, Alice knows her stuff about plants, and can usually tell if one is harmful or not. Her remarkable nose can supposedly smell and identify any exotic flower from a mile away, which is why she prefers the field over the office.
  • Poison Ivy Tattoo - On the back of her left hand, Alice has a small tattoo of a spiny leaf. Activating the magic of this tattoo causes a small amount of poison ivy to cover the back of her hand, delivering extremely irritating ivy poison to anyone struck with the leaves.
  • Bleeding Heart Tattoo - On the other hand (quite literally), Alice has a small tattoo of a bleeding heart flower on her fingertip. The magic allows her to release pink flower petals from her finger, which relieve pain to the touch.
  • Hand-to-Hand Combat - Having trained for several years to keep herself safe on exploration trips, Alice has mastered what she calls a floral style martial art, where palm and foot strikes are mixed in with clever use of her poison ivy tattoo to quickly incapacitate any would-be attackers.
  • Business Acumen - While not necessarily an industry mogul, Alice has gained some contacts working over the years, and even when negotiating with strangers can make a good deal out of any trade.
  • Great Credit Score!

Backstory:

Alice is Chief Floral Officer and Owner of Queen Kibi's, a renowned, local exotic flower shop. Having gained control of the business after her parents retired, the young woman has been hard at work revolutionizing what she believes to be a stale industry with no innovation. From a young age, Alice has always been obsessed with a need for exploration and adventure. Rather than focusing on growing flowers locally, Queen Kibi's prides itself on sourcing fresh, brand new species and races of flowers through wildlife exploration. The flowers are different every time, varying on their conditions of growth and which part of Eobine they grew on. Members of the floral brigade (Alice's employees) scour the land for such exotic plants, gathering and planting more of them in the wild, before bringing the grown ones back to the store to sit on its pretty, over-priced shelving units. This business model has done wonders for the young shopkeeper, netting her many high-profile buyers who enjoy her flowers for their uniqueness and authenticity. When Alice isn't busy negotiating bulk orders from important buyers, she is on the field, putting her unmatched flower-hunting skills to use in the less-explored parts of the wilderness.

Why are they going on this expedition:

At Queen Kibi's, there's not a flower you can't smell!" This company slogan is what drives Alice and her dedicated floral brigade to service their customers with the very best flora the empire offers. Of course, that slogan's not entirely truthful. There must be some flower at the top of the great tree that nobody has managed to bring back before - imagine the price some snooty noble would pay for that! If anything, it would make for some great PR for the store.
