永天意
Yong Tianyi, the Rat Charmer
girl-fantasy-brown-eyes-brunette-artist-hd-wallpaper-preview.jpg

Name: 永天意 || Yong Tianyi
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Straight
Focus: Charm Magic with the Dizi
Role: Potential Heiress of Yong Zhijing

Appearance: Tianyi stands at a hefty 182 centimeters (6 feet ish). That along with the ornate clothing she tends to wear makes her stand out in a crowd. Her demon form is much more intimidating with a thunderous voice, a strong jaw spilling smoke, and 220 centimeters (7 feet!) to its height.
Belongings: A bamboo dizi, a dagger for emergencies, a signet ring, a royal stamp
Abilities: With her music, Tianyi can emotionally influence beings with souls and charm beings without. She’s reached a level of proficiency where she can direct swarms of small animals with just a note on their flute. Tianyi can also play guqin- and while her music is magical, it does nothing more than sound pleasant. Tianyi is decently strong and hardy, but only in her demon form.
Strengths: Academically successful, sharp and charismatic enough to run a business, skillful musician, good understanding of politics (and cooking!).
Weaknesses: Not incredibly empathetic, can have awareness issues. Human form is rather weak, pretty much powerless without instruments. Horrible horrible singer.

Personality: Self-assured and perhaps selfish, Tianyi plays the game of her society, and she plays it well. The adoptive child of Yong Zhijing strives to excel in all things. And how could she not achieve excellence? Tianyi is constantly busy, whether it be with studying or practicing music or establishing new connections. For her, lagging behind means certain death. So Tianyi does everything she can to not waste time. Her diligence borders on paranoia- if she isn’t doing something, she gets anxious.

Tianyi’s relative success in life has made her self-confident, though also self critical. This gives her an all-or-nothing approach to most things. If she feels like she hasn’t done something well, she will give up altogether. Tianyi’s success has also made her self-important, and she often feels the need to pursue some kind of absolute right in all matters.

Outside of politics, Tianyi can be pleasant, though past that facade is an uptight girl who’s a good heir… but not a good friend.

Backstory: Tianyi was born as Yamaguchi Chidori in Dynastia, where she witnessed the horrors of the mountain’s lowest layer. Unwilling to allow their daughter to grow up in such an environment, Chidori’s parents smuggled her over to Rembrance in hopes of providing her with a better life. There, Chidori worked at a restaurant while also developing her own kind of art- the art of charming. One fateful day, a rowdy customer threatened Chidori. In fear, Chidori reached for her flute and played a note, charming dozens of rats and setting them on to the customer. A regular was so impressed that they offered Chidori a new job: become the personal maid of the Sovereign and her wife.

The young girl enthusiastically accepted her job at the palace. Yong Zhijing treated the girl well- she educated the girl, refined her magic, and taught her how to behave at court. She even gave her a new name: Yong Tianyi. Tianyi became a sort of figure around the palace- a young maiden who’d somehow become some kind of princess. Yong Zhijing’s biological children were… displeased, to say the least.

When Tianyi woke up to see a knife pointed towards her through, she fully understood what her position meant for her. She was in a game, a struggle for the throne. And she had to win.

Other: An npc :)

桃乐安
Tao Le-An, Bastard Child of Umbridge

Name: 桃乐安 || Tao Le-An
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Focus: Thread Spool, or Paper and Ink
Role: Bastard Daughter of Umbridge (Between King 万锦阳 Wan Jinyang and Concubine 桃秦仙 Tao Qinxian)

Appearance: Links (This, more or less, A Little More Realistic Clothing)

Belongings: Needles and colorful thread. Her most prized spool is silver, both the string and the spool itself. She also always has ink and paper on her.

Abilities: Writing and using talismans/runes (especially in containment, magic suppression, and magic amplification), setting up traps (her thread makes for deadly contraptions with enough tautness on the string), a good sense of taste and smell that allows her to occasionally identify spoiled food or poison.
On a less-useful note, she can embroider really well and knows her way around a needle.
Strengths: Le-An has a great sense of geometry and time. She can easily identify tastes and smells. She has an eye for finer details, and is good with her hands and good at multitasking. High tolerance to pain.
Weaknesses: An absolute martyr for her half-siblings, even the ones that don’t particularly like her. Finds trouble wherever she goes. Downplays a lot of her actual troubles. Despite being able to haggle, she is sometimes too liberal with money. She is easily distracted or tempted by good food, art, or music. Low tolerance to alcohol.

Personality:
Le-An is bright in life and always all-over-the-place, her energy bouncing from wall to wall, always living on the cusp of a sugar rush. It either endears people, or annoys them. Empathetic and witty, she is devastatingly charismatic and intelligent, but nonetheless has incredibly dumb moments. She has no care for propriety when talking with friends, but holds so much formality when talking with her family that she could almost be a different person.

Despite not wanting to judge people based on first impressions, she looks down upon those that complain a lot or are standoffish. If they have time to complain, they must not be fixing that problem; if they are stilted and cold, they must not want friends. Due to this, she has a negative perspective on most of the concubines in the Umbridge royal family, who are jealous of Wan Guiwu, including her mother.

She is great at flirting, but terrible at real romance. (You could probably throw her off by flirting back.) Her favorite quote is “consent comes first!” As such, she is a romantic at heart and proclaims it out loud as an excuse when teasing others very often. Despite it all, she’s never actually kissed anyone. However, she is currently courting one of the twins of Ballad, Xin Diesi, after meeting her as a student on an educational trip a couple of years ago.

She is loyal, first to her older half-brother, Wan Huajing, then to the other royals, then to her half-siblings. Her brother is the only politician that she can stand.

Backstory:
Le-An’s mother was once an urchin on the streets of Pohem, who had managed to escape North and join a brothel for money somewhere on the borders of Dynastia and Umbridge. Somewhere along the line, her mother seduces Wan Jinyang (at this period of time, Wan Huajing is 4 years old). Subsequently, they relocate to Umbridge, and Le-An is born nine months later, exactly five years younger than Huajing.

She spent her years growing up alone, since most of the other concubines are careful to not become pregnant or have sent their children away. Her mother ignored her most of the time, vying for the King’s attention against Guiwu. Sometime during her younger teenage years, Le-An visits Pohem, shadowing her mother (on the one time that Jinyang ever acknowledged her mother since the first time they met). She picks up the sewing and embroidery customs of Pohem and discovers that she has a natural talent for manipulating threads. A few months later, when she returns, she tags along with her brother, who is heading off to Ballad to learn.

In Ballad, Le-An meets the twins that will inherit the kingdom, shows off some of her skills to get their attention, and becomes an engineer for a hand-made hot-air balloon. She causes accidental trouble for nearly a month before she finally goes home with her brother. She leaves with a new skill in calligraphy - taught by an exasperated but amused Xin Diesi and a delighted Xin Mengzi as an enabler. Since then, she continually hones her sewing and writing skills, in hopes of eventually impressing Xin Diesi.

Furthermore, try to avoid making new characters from Pohem or Rembrance as well, since the two of them are special cases. doneanddusted doneanddusted you should consider making this note somewhere at the top of the cs thread, so people can know beforehand ^.^

爱丽丝
Ai Lisi, the Hierophant
dedbe80bd8fa8f61752c9fd524f1657e.jpg
Name: 爱丽丝 || Ai Lisi
Age: 20
Gender: F
Sexuality: Homosexual
Focus: Singing
Role: Younger sister of 马克斯维 (Ma-Ke Siwei); Princess Elect of Dynastia (单霞雷)

Appearance: Lisi stands at 175 cm (5'7) | Different Style
Belongings: Xiangqi (chess) canon piece (for good luck), white and red folding fan, documentation with the royal sigil.

Abilities: Gifted with a rich singing voice, Lisi can manipulate the conscience of others to lull them to sleep. Beings with purer minds are able to resist her influence the easiest, while those with impure minds are more susceptible (while singing at a normal volume). The higher/louder Lisi sings and the longer she can hold a note at a higher octave, the stronger her influence becomes.
Decent with a jian, but she neither owns one nor carries one with her.

Strengths: Politically savvy, practiced entertainer, doesn't fall easily, durable.
Weaknesses: Her highest note can only be held for 3 seconds without straining her voice (and if she does lose her voice, it takes days to fully recover), she can't cook (to the point where she's kept away from the kitchen out of fear of starting a fire), Ma-Ke Siwei

Personality: Appearing distant, standoffish, and sometimes downright cold, Lisi is the kind of person to keep her cards close to her chest and avoid direct answers to questions. Her companionship is rarely given and easily lost. Having lived a life of deciet, of watching her back constantly, and always needing to keep up appearances (lest her people drag her down to prop themselves up), Lisi's perfected her poker face.

Only 马克斯维 (Ma-Ke Siwei) has her full trust and affection, and is the only one who has ever seen Lisi with her guard down. She is compassionate and starving for internal happiness, but she also conforms to the way Dynastia is (and even discourages change) because of a selfish desire to stay in Ma-Ke Siwei's goodwill.

Backstory: When Ma-Ke Siwei was only a few months old, his mother fell ill suddenly and died. Fingers were pointed all over Dynastia when it became public, some suspecting a secret lover from the lower levels became tired of living in the shadows and poisoned her, that the sovereign had done it himself and covered up the true cause, or that a third party vying to kill all the royals and take power for themselves were to blame. Whatever the truth might've been, the sovereign remarried a woman from the middle level two years after, and she had Lisi the year after that.

Lisi lived a life constantly showered with gifts and anything she thought to ask for, but not love. Her father was the type to give his parties more attention than his children, then apologize later with trinkets. Her mother did everything she could to prevent herself from succumbing to the same fate as the sovereigns late wife, which left little time for anything else. Lisi became close with Ma-Ke Siwei, and used to lull him to sleep as children when he was restless at night.

He later taught her to use his jian as payment. Lisi learned to turn a blind eye to the struggles of the lower levels like her mother, father, and brother, though it pained her to do so, and she would occasionally make little suggestions of change to Siwei. Six months before the invitation to Remembrance, their father caught wind of her small attempts to turn the new heir away from the traditional way of Dynastia and decided her influence on him needed to be removed.

At the age of 20, Lisi fell violently ill and died before a day had passed. In grief and rage, Siwei used a dark, unnatural ability he'd carefully kept secret all his life, and sang a song that captured her soul from the path of reincarnation and forced it back into her body. She awoke as something dead, but still alive. Only she, Siwei, and their father (who became terrified of him) know the truth of what happened in that room.

Other: The canon piece was a gift from Siwei | Tarot Card
