Luca Hollestelle

Name: Juniper Pines
Nickname: June, feel free to come up with more
Age: 28
Skills:
Tinkering (not the best at it but enough to cover most of the basic needs), cooking (a skill one learns on their own), sowing (not the prettiest but functional), basic diagnostic methods, minimal knowledge of herbology (self-learned)
Allegiance: Themselves
Role/Profession: Scientist
Clothing:
A simple set of layered clothing that has been mended here and there and a comfortable pair of leather boots
Personality:
Juna is a reclusive person. She was never properly socialized and it's showing. Altho she shows love and care towards those who she gets to know better and a little caution never hurts when interacting with people in this strange new world.
Backstory: (Probably will reword it better)
June was a small-town girl before the outbreak, but she was pretty young when it all happened and most of the memories of that life have faded. Who could blame them as she was around 10 or so? That doesn't change she can't forget how it all started. Her parents allowed her and her sister outside less and less, her friends vanished without a trace (they fell ill but June didn't know it back then) and one day she saw their neighbour limping to their house covered in those red boils, deformed to a point he was unrecognizable. After that day she was not allowed outside at all.

Years went by and by the time she was allowed outside once more the world had changed. Her community had changed from 1500 people strong to just around 250. The role you had before didn't matter much, the only thing important was the skills you had. Whilst her parents' places were tending the fields and keeping the equipment for that going like so many others were doing, her sister got a role in the warehouse keeping track of all the supplies they had, she felt lost having no real place. She was just too stuck in the thought and want to learn about the virus ever since she saw the neighbour die in a way on their doorstep. June had started to sneak away daily to a house farther away in the woods. She started to set up a small lab in there collecting things from her old school supplies.

That life lasted until last year when an infected with the Scarlet Death made their way to them and died upstream from the community. Their rotting body was discovered too late. Most people had been infected and those who survived left before they themselves caught it. Their settlement had just turned into a few people who had no other option but to stay. June was the only one in her family to avoid the infection out of her family due to her little lab. That broke her and she backed her bag and everything she could and left to find a new life.
She has wandered around ever since from community to community but no one wanted to keep her as she was from "an infected" settlement. Fear of others made her leave time and time again. Some allowed her to exchange some of the herbs and other things she had gathered or scrapped on her way for some supplies. Usually just enough to allow her to make it from one community to another.
Requested Weapons: Just a large knife
Requested Gear:
an improvised hazmat suit made of different sets of waterproof clothing sown together and seams covered in sealant (effectiveness is questionable but better than nothing), a respirator, a sturdy backpack, an old herbarium that belonged to her grandmother, an improvised lab kit, a bedroll
Allies: To be determined
Enemies: To be determined
Other Details:
She is terribly afraid of any uncovered body of water after the incident and avoids it at any cost.

Settlements:
She is just wandering around from settlement to settlement to find a place to belong and trying to survive.

That, and witty egocentric cowboy-type guys.

Backstory:
There was once a woman named Maya Burke. Maya wasn’t a bad person, but she was the type of person who did whatever she could to survive. She’d heard of New Eden, the place that sounded too good to be true - the place where rich people went to forget that the world is ending. Even before they closed their gates to outsiders they wouldn’t have let Maya in. The first thing Maya did to survive was join The Citadel. Just go along with everything, take whatever you need from the weak. No one else seemed to feel bad about doing what they did.

One day on a raid they’d found a car filled to the brim with supplies - meds, food, clean clothes, baby food. The baby food should’ve given it away. After about five minutes of unloading the car, a small gurgle made everyone stop in their tracks, hands filled with supplies. They assumed it had been the wind until it happened again ten seconds later. Under the car, a young mother and her baby had been hiding. The poor mother must have seen the raiders coming and knew that hiding was the only thing to do if she wanted her and her baby to live.

Maya begged the other raiders to leave them alone and forget they had ever seen them. She was a small-town midwife before the outbreak, and to kill a child without reason would be crossing the line. Even taking everything they had would’ve been better than what the rest of the raiders wanted to do.. What they said they’d do to the mother after slitting her throat. That comment was enough to make Maya snap. Let's just say that Maya was the only raider that walked out of that situation alive. As a sign of gratitude, the mother told her about a large house an old friend of hers lived in, and that they’d happily take her in if she explained what had happened. She couldn’t go back to The Citadel, after all. Not anymore.

All Maya found in that house were two corpses, both long dead. One of which was Bonnie Sullivan. Doctor. Daughter of a billionaire. Shot in the head with a gun, by the looks of it. When Maya left that house, she was quite literally a new woman. The world had presented her with a perfect opportunity. After burning the face on Bonnie’s ID photo and shoving some paperwork and medical supplies into her backpack, Maya’s new goal in life became joining New Eden as Bonnie Sullivan, daughter of billionaire Henry Sullivan who both, no doubt, would’ve been let into New Eden even after they stopped accepting refugees. She hasn’t made it that far yet, though.

Requested Weapons: A python revolver and a dagger.

Requested Gear: Backpack containing stolen medical supplies, a tampered-with ID and some stolen paperwork proving that Bonnie is who she is.

Allies: Bonnie currently has no friends, but does want to join a good community.

Enemies: The Citadel, where she can no longer show her face in case she is recognised.

Other Details: She has basic medical knowledge due to being a midwife in her small Southern hometown before the outbreak, but not enough to actually be a doctor, so she will have to fake it ‘till she makes it. She’s definitely not evil, but she sure is a good con woman. She gets that from her mama. She also pretends to be less competent in surviving and combat than she actually is so others don’t suspect that might not be who she says she is.

Settlements: Bonnie is headed to New Manhattan first, though her end goal is to make it into New Eden. Every community could always do with a doctor - what could go wrong?

View attachment 1089853Username: Miaow

Name: Mei Chiong

Nickname: Feel free to come up with some

Age: 14

Skills: Living a relatively sheltered childhood, Mei isn't particularly skilled in survival. Ying taught her basic farming practices but she is far less knowledgeable than her older sister. She can ride horses well but lacks confidence and has little experience riding more troublesome horses. She's a skilled artist, though art isn't particularly useful for survival. She's physically fit and quite small and agile so can fit through small spaces with ease. She is capable of traveling long distances on foot and on horseback. She has no experience killing infected as Ying took this responsibility.

Allegiance: Herself and her older sister, Ying Chiong

Profession: Farmhand

Appearance: Zoe Xiaohan

Clothing: Mei is typically found wearing a pair of denim dungarees which are probably a few sizes too big. She normally wears a t-shirt underneath, mostly hand-me-downs from her older sister, and a hoodie or flannel shirt over the top on cooler days. She has walking boots with a small heel to help her ride and her hair is almost always tied up into a ponytail to keep it out of the way. For hot days, she has a pair of dungaree shorts. She has an old backpack decorated with keychains she raided from old shops.

Personality: Mei is friendly, possibly overly friendly if you ask her sister. She makes friends easily and enjoys meeting new people. She likes to see the best in people which can be risky in this new world. She's a huge animal lover despite not growing up with pets. She enjoyed working on the farm despite how physically taxing it was as she got to spend a lot of time with the livestock. She's hardworking and determined but lacks confidence in certain areas. She's understandably quite terrified of the infected and would prefer to run and hide than fight.

Backstory: Mei, similarly to Ying, was an accident. However, unlike her sister, she wasn't removed from her mother's care. Times had changed, CPS wasn't a thing anymore, and there was nobody to assess whether she was fit to be a mother. Mei was sent home with her mother.

At first, her mother tried her best. She fed her with the rations she received from the settlement, changed her, did everything a new mother should do. For the first few years of her life, Mei enjoyed a somewhat normal childhood. However, she was still battling drug addiction, and with new, more dangerous drug strains being developed, her condition worsened. It wasn't long before Mei was left to fend for herself.

Mei experienced physical and verbal abuse at the hands of her mother. Mei was an accident and her mother made sure she knew that. She never wanted children, yet she'd had two. She found the process of raising a child frustrating. She found her child annoying and infuriating. She hated that she had to use her limited rations on a child she didn't want.

Mei grew up mostly in isolation, with limited interaction with her neighbours as they fed her scraps left over from their rations. She had no friends her age and wasn't allowed to go outside. She found escapism in the books she borrowed from neighbours. She knew of the infection but had only ever seen infected people from inside her home. She knew the symptoms but hadn't seen them firsthand. She was 12 when her mother consumed a bad strain of a new drug derived from infected brain tissue. She knew something was wrong, recognising the crimson boils, and, as her mother slept, escaped their home. She went to a neighbour to get help. Her mother was isolated from the town and Mei was taken to the same orphanage her sister had inhabited years before.

When Ying was notified that her biological mother had had another child, she took Mei to live with her on the ranch, teaching her everything she knew. In under two years, she was riding horses, caring for animals, and cultivating crops. Though she struggled socially, she was progressing well under the care of her sister.

Mei was anxious about leaving the farm when they were attacked. It was the safest place she'd experienced in her lifetime. She was happy there but the settlement had betrayed them, they couldn't stay. They took their largest, safest horse and rode together, Mei perched on the back of the saddle and began to make their way to New Manhatten, a settlement Ying had only heard murmurs of. There was no guarantee the rumours were true but that was a chance they had to take.

Requested Weapons: A small switch-blade

Requested Gear: A backpack containing as many water bottles as she could carry, snacks and a few books.

Allies: Herself and her sister, Ying Chiong

Enemies: Her previous settlement in Ohio

Other Details: Mei is 5'2" in height with a slim build. She is gradually getting stronger, though has only been working as a farmhand for just over a year so lacks the strength her sister has.
Approved, can’t wait for the moment when Larry and Mei are just hiding in the corner while the others are fighting

Name: Aiden Sullivan

Nickname: 'Slick'

Age: 39

Skills: Interrogation, Intimidation, Small Arms, Basic First Aid.

Allegiance: New Manhattan (but themselves)

Profession: Police Enforcer

Clothing: Wears a basic enforcer uniform common to the New Manhattan police. His face is usually covered on account of his shady dealings (more on that later). In civilians, he usually wears a denim jacket, jeans, and a hat with shades that does the work of obscuring his features.

Personality: Used to be a friendly, altruistic, and loving guy dedicated to being a police officer and advancing toward the greater good. However, the harsh reality of the post-apocalypse has entirely numbed him to those feelings.

Aiden is cold, callous, cunning, and brutal in his professional life. Privately, he's a sad man who spends his nights at the bottom of a whiskey bottle.

Backstory:
Aiden grew up in a veteran household with his father having served in the Gulf War. He was always immensely proud of his father who pushed him toward pursuing his own military career in adulthood while practicing sports in his private time, so with the constant support of his ever-present father he took every effort to be the man his dad wanted him to be; The boy went as far as to complete his criminal justice degree in high school. However, it wasn't long before the first sting of reality plunged itself beneath his skin to release its poison-- his parents divorcing as he entered High School. That event drove him deeper into sports as his father spiraled into alcoholism and his mother into a trauma-induced depression that saw her spending more time at rehab than in her small apartment in downtown Tampa.

Upon graduating, Aiden found himself dissociating from the man he had tried to shape himself into for his-- now, drunk of a father. This pushed him into a month long stagnation afterward where he blew his gift money on hotels and weed. Yet, he still felt that urge to protect inside of himself. The young man took full advantage of his previous efforts and joined the academy where he then found himself a rookie cop on the first days of the outbreak.

Fuck the monsters! The horrible debauchery of humanity: Killing. Bloodshed. Betrayal. Abduction. Torture. Everything he had trained to prevent and more was the everyday now in the world that had emerged from the corpse of the old one. If anything still held that childhood innocence to Aiden, it died during this time.

By the end of it all, he was in Manhattan with a gun, experience, and nothing holding him back; His folks disappeared at the start and with any luck they were dead. No friends-- either scattered to the wind or dead. He had that gun, though. Aiden practically ran the streets in those days with a bandana-covered face and shooting skills able to beat out most of these would-be survivalists that had made it to New Manhattan. However, upon the arrival of a new Police Commissioner, Damien Edison, Aiden knew it was his time to join up in the newly recruited Police Force; this move earning him the ire of many criminal kingpins who he promptly helped crush using his knowledge of the underworld.

The man put his prior experience to the test as both an instructor and street enforcer as he quickly rose through the ranks to be a Sergeant. Then, he froze at his position using it to corrupt and earn the trust of many new recruits who have since worked their way into the system in various places. The Commissioner soon became the Governor, and now some lowlife stepped into his shoes in the Precinct.

Despite the work that has been done to restore the society before, Aiden knows what people are really like underneath it all.

Time to get to work.

Requested Weapons:
-UMP-45 9mm Submachinegun (accessible at the station, so not something he carries on him regularly).
-Smith and Wesson M&P45 .45 Caliber Pistol (two spare mags).

Allies:
-Corrupt Police in the New Manhattan precinct.

Name: Hoàng Mai Chu

Nickname: Chu, Chewy

Age: 19

Skills: Horseback riding, mostly skills necessary for ranch work but her aunt taught her some extra riding skills, such as specialist moves for reining. She is skillful in animal training and management so would be at home working with livestock. Chu is experienced in hunting and knows which forage is safe for human and horse consumption. Though she hasn't had to do this often, living a sheltered life on a ranch, she does have limited experience killing infected in the later stages.

Allegiance: None as of yet

Profession: Ranch hand and horse trainer

Appearance: Chu was born with albinism, meaning she lacks pigment in her skin, hair and eyes. Her eyes are a pinky-brown colour, framed by white eyelashes. She has a slim build, though is stronger than she looks from her work on the ranch. Her hands and feet are also calloused from the work. She is approximately 5'2" in height.

Clothing:
Due to her albinism, Chu is more susceptible to sunburn so will wear long-sleeved shirts and full-length trousers when outside, no matter the weather. She rides in a wide-brimmed helmet to protect her face, though often finds her neck getting burnt. She wears walking boots and has a jacket packed in her saddle bag in case of changes in the weather.

Personality: Chu was raised by some headstrong ladies, therefore she inherited that trait herself. She can be stubborn and will 100% put the welfare of her horse above that of a human stranger. She has had little human interaction outside of her family and the people she met were often hostile, therefore she is stunted socially and doesn't always understand social cues. She has also never created a bond with someone other than her family so isn't sure how friendships are meant to work. She was brought up to be brave in the face of new challenges and took many long camping trips with her family so did not find the journey ahead of her daunting. On the other hand, nerves were frowned upon in her family, so though she puts on a brave face, she does find some things frightening. Though she knows New Manhatten would increase her chances of survival, the idea of being surrounded by so many people terrifies her.

Backstory: Chu was born to a Vietnamese family living in New York. The two were struggling financially at the time and Chu was not planned, however, they fell in love with her as soon as they found out they were having a baby. They were completely unaware that the two of them both carried a gene for albinism, and were very confused when their child came out pale, with strange, pink-ish brown eyes and snow-white hair. Her father, believing her mother had had an affair, left the family behind. Chu's mother, struggling to look after a child on her own with no source of income, moved in with her sister who had emigrated to Virginia before them. She and her husband had renovated a cheap ranch to live their lifelong dream of owning livestock. When she heard the trouble Chu's mother was having, she offered her a room for as long as she needed.

Chu was immediately drawn to the animals her aunt kept. As a toddler, she was always trying to escape into the fields to pet the cows and sheep and always wanted to be in the stables with the horses. Her aunt's partner had grown up around horses so was more than happy to show her the ropes, letting her ride the smaller, more beginner-friendly horses. Chu was still only a toddler when the first outbreak began, so she doesn't remember anything from before the risk of infection was a serious threat.

By her teens, she was helping train new horses and going on long camping trips on horseback. Living in a rural area, the risk of infection was lower and, as they had their own well on their property, contaminated water was of little concern. This allowed them to continue to live a semi-normal life, using their own animals for food and becoming mostly self-sufficient. Chu was trained to hunt for extra food and for supplies while on camping trips.

Her aunt and her partner were big in the Mustang Makeover world before the outbreak, taking on wild mustangs, backing them, and showing them. By 15, Chu had her own mustang. Teddy was a stallion who was wild-caught from Virginia and gelded before being bought by Chu's aunt before Chu was born. Her aunt had trained him but, having little time to devote to him, he had never been taken to his full potential. She gifted Teddy to Chu under the condition she took good care of him, taking his education further.

At 18, the ranch was raided by a nearby group for supplies. They had been aware of people scouting out their ranch for almost a month but with only 4 people to protect it, they were quickly overrun. Though Chu and her family did manage to fight off a few of the raiders, killing them, her family were soon overpowered and killed. Chu only survived by hiding in the basement, barricading the door. Despite her mother encouraging her to do this, she deals with a lot of guilt for this action. She could have died with the rest of her family but, instead, she hid like a coward. She vividly remembers the sounds of her family and the cattle dying and often has nightmares about it.

Once the raiders left, she emerged to find many of their cattle had been killed for their meat and some of the horses had been stolen. Teddy, being on the smaller side, was left behind. Chu, struggling with the trauma of what had happened and feeling unable to move the corpses of her family, packed up as much as she could carry and left with Teddy. Her family had been aware of New Manhatten, though being self-sufficient, felt no need to travel there. With no one left but her horse, Chu began her journey there. She turned 19 just over halfway there, with only Teddy to celebrate it with.

Other Details:
Chu is short-sighted which is linked to her albinism. Currently, this isn't bad enough to affect her survival, though she worries one day it will progress to a point where she can no longer survive independently. Chu has vowed to never hide from a fight after what happened to her family. She doesn't want others to die due to her cowardice when she could have stayed and fought.

Backstory: Clara’s father was a known thief in their town, a usual suspect toward any crime (Most of which where in fact him.) the sleepy town didn’t care much, charging him with a fine and community service for his get rich quick fact.

Clara’s mother worked several jobs to both help with her abusive husbands alcohol addiction and the many fines, managing to raise her daughters at the same time.

Clara had a close relationship to her father, not knowing the true nature of his schemes as she unknowingly assisted his crimes as either a lookout or distraction, learning the art of thievery and deception.

Life went on, Claras mother able to afford more for her children without her having to pay for her husbands fines and alcohol.

When the outbreak began, the young Clara stayed in their house, her mother only leaving for supplies sent by the government, quarantining herself in a shed for the first few hours after her departures. Eventually, the prisons security was lessoned as the priority switched to finding infected individuals out.

Her father robbed several stores before returning to his home with his prison gang, his fellow gang members sexually assaulting her sister as he got drunk, unconcerned. Clara’s sister and mother fought back, only to be killed by the gang members.

Before the gang members could assualt her, Clara’s uncle arrived; beating the shit out his brother and his friends. Clara’s uncle buried her mother and siblings in their backyard before they left for his cabin in the woods.

Clara lived in isolation, learning how to survive on her own with her uncles help. A few years into the outbreak, her father showed up alone. Her father had been unknowingly infected, but being an asymptomatic carrier his friends died of the virus, driving him into a drunken rage as he hiked ten miles to the cabin.

Clothing:
Mostly things they have found while scavenging through depleted communities and trashed areas but is almost always black clothing making it easier for night travel. Tattered tanks tops and t-shirts and worn black jeans with beat up and worn in leather lace up boots.
Personality:
Vale is pretty reclusive and is used to long periods of silence and loneliness so when they are with others they tend to come across as evasive and hard to communicate with. But they are a friendly person who cares for others and shows it in small odd ways and will eventually open up the more they get to know someone. They are also a bit depressive from past events and when given the opportunity is often found with a cigarette or a drink in hand.
Backstory:
They grew up in a tight knit family on a farm out in the middle of nowhere with their mother, father, older brother and two younger sisters. Though in some families they might have been considered the black sheep Vale was treated as quite the opposite and was never once out casted for their appearance or when they came out as non-binary. They were a family that worked hard together raising their farm animals and growing mostly their own food. The closest thing they had to neighbors was a childhood friend of their dads, a Native American man that Vale was used to seeing at the house at least every other week who helped their father out with their livestock but also helped teach Vale how to process and animal after slaughter to get the most out of it meat, hide and all. Though their siblings couldnt stand the thought of killing their precious farm animals Vale's dad was proud that he at least had their help in the matter along with their older brother Damien.

After the outbreak it wasnt too hard for them to live self sufficient at their farm and even though their house wasnt all that big they welcomed who they could into their house so long as they offered to help around the farm or gardens. After awhile they had around a small community of 25 or so people of all ages and genders. Because they were so far off the beaten path they rarely had strangers come into their area and they were able to keep people steadily fed from their animals and crops and they had a decent water source from their well even if it was only barely enough. It was peaceful and Vale enjoyed helping care for the kids and elderly in the group while their brother and father managed the larger animals with the other able bodied people. Their mother and sisters took care of most of the cleaning and cooking and teaching of life skills to those who wanted to learn.

After a few years of peaceful living one night Vale and one of their younger siblings accompanied them to the nearby wooded areas to look for more resources, something Vale had done on many occasions without issue but it was the first time they had one of their younger siblings tag along. It was getting dark and they were making their way back when Vale realized there was a glow coming from their homestead. They quickly rushed back only to see a group of horribly gaunt and dirty people ravaging their storage of food and a fire had broken out in the barn area while a slew of people Vale recognized as community members slaughtered on the ground. Among the dead Vale found their mother and youngest sister while inside the main center they could see their father covered in blood fighting off these rabid scavengers who looked like they hadnt eaten in weeks while their brother was trying to get people to safety and protect what animals were left. At the end of it all that remained was Vale, their brother and sister and a few young men and children. Whether by luck or as Vale likes to see it, a curse..they managed to survive it all as they slowly watched what was left of their family slowly die to what they could only assume was the infection. They took what they had left after their brother died and began their solo journey.
(May open up more about what happened when they get to know someone)

Hunting/Carving knife, Compound Bow and Arrows, Compact knife
Requested Gear:
Their survival pack that holds tools they need for skinning animals and repairing/making arrows, knife holster they keep attached to their leg, bag of charcoal, small travel bag they keep their portable cooking gear in as well as a small propane tank
Allies:
None

None they are aware of
Other Details:
Though they may be traveling solo at the time they do long to be apart of something again but they know better than to try and join some of the more larger compounds and communities, they would rather keep trying their luck on the outskirts against what awaits on the outside.
