Weather was warm and sunny on the island of Tapyoka, with the town of Horzo buzzing with activity. The Local fishermen ready the boats or check crab traps just off the docks, the docks of Horzo like most days are packed with various ships conducting all sorts of business. Merchants unload and buy cargo here just as the pirates steal and sell their own goods. One ship that definitely looked out of place was the Swift Revenge, a ghost ship that seemed like it sailed out of hell itself. A cursed ship sailed by a cursed crew. A captain unable to step on dry land so his crew was doing the necessary business on land. Selling loot, purchasing goods and whatnot...

Lalo had joined the others as extra hands, being unable to speak properly due to a curse had the man pretty down. Despite Horzo being a place he knew decently thanks to his bounty hunting career... Not like he could share with his allies of times he bested criminals or tell them the things to eat at the taverns or why only locals trust the brothel. He trailed behind the group glancing at the locals without much thought. Unfortunate children whose parents died or abandoned them, merchants trying to attract customers whilst guarding their stalls from thieves,
Violent sorts ranging from drunks, desperate chancers, pirates and others surely.

One drunk chancer was unlucky enough to recognise Lalilo Partah, or perhaps his luck changed when he approached violently barking accusations at the cursed man.
What the hells your problem tosser? being what Lalo wanted to say In response, "Pisspot! red skies snake tail, yarrrgghhh" Is what actually came out of Lalos mouth...

The man with a dagger backed a step away from Lalo who was silently cursing himself. "You that bounty hunter right? Sailed with Lovely Lavell yeah? you lot killed my brother!"
Lalo responded with a disgusting noise and then spat venom in the eye of the would be avenger who fell to the ground in pained hysterics. A few people looked on shocked at what happened, others stare with mild curiosity.

"No more delay, let's be on our way" Lalo suggested to the crew attempting to hide his embarrassment with a grin. They had proper business to attend to after all, Tapyoka is home to a vampire clan that's said to have ties to the Crimson Storm. They are to travel into the wilds in search of these tribal vampires in hopes of picking up information on the undead whale...

Theia looks around her in mild wonder, having not been to this island before. She had not been exploring long before the curse led her onto the Swift Revenge and even then Tapyoka was a new experience for her. The dark-haired female's eyes were wide in delight, and she turned to look at her captain as he mentioned that they needed to not dilly dally. "Aye, captain. We'll not take too long." She had a list of things she needed for the infirmary and medicinal herbs, which she intended to go and get on her own.

She felt that such shopping would only be dull to her crewmates. Theia had only been on the ship for six months and compared to the others she felt as if her life up until the incident was dull. Not that she had any complaints but she was self-conscious about it, which was one of the many reasons that Theia had not opened up about herself as much. Her gray-green eyes, similar to the ocean during a storm, return to Lalo as she tells him, "I need to find an apothecary or at least an open market. I will meet you back at the town square, captain."

Theia would then start walking towards where she could hear the merchants shouting out their wares, knowing that would be the best place to start if nothing else. Her long hair was tied in a loose horsetail down her back, and she wore a simple worn-out dress along with a leather satchel that she intended to carry her purchases in.

(Theia is wearing this)

Aiko hummed, her bird familiar soaring above, providing her a view from the sky. Though the town of Horzo was smaller than what she was used to, it was full of activity. People bustled to and fro, beggars out upon the streets, and merchants yelling out their wares. Her smile turned slightly bitter as her familiar flew over the market, memories of her merchant father recalling to memory.

"A merchant is someone who figures out how to select, how to smell, how to identify, how to feel, how to time, how to buy, how to sell, and hopefully how to have two plus two equal six," her father used to tell her with a mischievous smile, bursting out into laughter as young Aiko counted on her fingers before a puzzled expression swept across her face. "I'll teach you when you get older, little one. For now, let's focus on your math."

"I've learned my math now, Father," Aiko whispered to herself. As the bird continued, Aiko's eyes lit up as she saw what she was looking for: an old bookstore. "Suki!" she called out for the bird. Though she could see clearly where the bookstore was thanks to the bird’s eye view, she would need the bird by her side to see the path to be taken.

"Good luck finding your wares, friends," she called back to the few that remained with Lalo, Suki landing on her shoulder. "Time to go shopping."

Alvin kept his head on a swivel as he walked with his crewmates into the port town, his body tense with anticipation. He had never been on the island, but he had ported here before when he would occasionally accompany his bother on his merchant ship. Never would he consider disembarking and it would have been the same case here too until they needed to find these vampires, but Rahull had a task specifically for Alvin: Grocery shopping.

As Alvin continues to attempt to cook for himself, it is all too evident that he is not improving very much and thus uses too many resources on the ship. At this point, he had almost been banned from the kitchen entirely, but they had made a deal. He was only allowed to make one meal a day for himself, no snacks, and definitely no mid-meal meals. As well as giving him the responsibility of stocking the kitchen when needed, whether that be shopping for things in towns to help give him some more familiarity with certain ingredients and potentially ask questions about them, or finding the food himself, which would be most beneficial for his situation but he is still reluctant to do such things.

A few of the crew begin to break off to do their own business and Alvin follows behind Theia before she gets too far and speaks up, "Theia, dear, would you mind allowing me to accompany you into the market? I'm sure the shops I need for these...things," He flicks the parchment Rahull had given him with the list of items he needed to find, "Are somewhere close to that apothecary place you're looking for. I could escort you there before going about my business." In actuality, Alvin had no idea if the shops he needed were anywhere near the apothecary, but he would be beside himself if he let Theia wander the town on her own, with all these hooligans and ruffians investing the streets. He could only imagine how irate his mother would be with him if she knew he had done such a thing. She also reminded him of his little sister who was naive and clumsy and couldn't help but project her personality onto Theia.

Alvin kept himself poised as to no reveal any sign of concern he may be feeling from showing on his face.

Theia turns in surprise as Alvin asks to come with her before a smile forms and she tells him, "I would be most grateful for the company, Alvin. Thank you." Perhaps he felt that she would not be able to adequately navigate this place on her own. A fair judgment, since this was her first time here. She waited for him so that they could walk side by side before she continued to venture forth, looking around at their surroundings and smiling at how active this place was.

"
What is it that you needed to get? Perhaps I can be of some help," she offers, peeking over to look at the list while tucking a stray strand of hair over her ear. Theia felt that of all the crew members aboard the Swift Revenge she contributed the least; as useful as a doctor was it wasn't as if she could aid them in combat beyond self-defense. So she was always eager to pull more than her share of the workload.

Stella's Banner.png

"Ladies and gents, I'm off!" Stella announced her departure with an exaggerated flourish.

Body covered with a large tan cloak, the blue-haired pirate lady left the ship without her hat and with a sack packed-full of valuables she had gotten her hands onto during her travels. This wasn't her first time in Horzo, but it did feel like it had been quite a long time ago. Her steps were quick and sure. She knew where she was heading first. She'll be offloading some treasures to an acquaintance of hers, a fence that would be more than happy to pay for some of the hot valuables she was carrying. With the time, Stella was keen to rumors and hushed whispers of goods that were in high demand, especially on the black market. If those valuable weren't made of gold, she would acquire them with a purpose to sell these items off.

As she threaded hurriedly to the far end of the market square, she waved a quick salute to her fellow mates, noticing they were probably on errands as well of their own. Stella had two tasks given to her by their captain, Rahull. Of course she had to do her share and sell some of the loot they had acquire in their travel, but the good captain knew she was well-versed in gathering information and scouting. Her second task was to try getting a lead on this vampire clan that was rumored to be in Tapyoka. They were apparently related to the damned undead whale and the crimson tides. Stella would be more than happy to find anything of worth about these vampires...

The azure-eyed lady knocked rhythmically on a door that was suspiciously reinforced from an outsider's point of view. Shortly after, a small panel at head-level slid aside to reveal chestnut-colored eyes examining the cloaked figure standing in front of the door.

"We're closed today, owner's sick." an old voice stated.

"Well it's a good thing I'm packed to the brim with medicine from across the ocean. C'mon, lemme in ya old goat!"

The panel slid shut, seeming as if the pirate lady had been blown off. Until the sounds of clicking and sliding chains could be heard on the other side, revealing an aged man on the other side, beckoning the woman to hurry in.

"Stella, it's been a while. What do you have for me this time?" the old man smirked, giving the pirate a pat on the arm.

Stella removed her hood, flashing a grin of her own as she entered the hideout. It looked quaint on the outside but inside was a real smuggler's den. Thieves, scoundrels and every no-good souls were gathered from all across the seas to tell tales of their adventures, share a laugh and wage their loot in various games of luck.

With all the gold jewelry she was wearing, one could easily mistake Stella for either a merchant or a noblewoman. Truth was, she simply had an obsession with gold trinkets. It wouldn't be unheard of for this blue-haired pirate to be the cause of some golden valuables disappearing and suddenly finding themselves in the pirate's collection. She'd even spend a lot of her hard-earned loot to purchase some rare golden findings.

"What don't I have, ya mean?" She chuckled, taking a seat at an empty table with the old fence.

Stella emptied her rucksack on the table, revealing various items of importance. Gems of various colors, a horn made of ivory, pieces of jewelry ranging from bronze to platinum, coins of various materials, a knife or two with etched symbols. She truly had a small treasure trove in there. The pirate lady could feel a few intrigued eyes drifting at her table. She did not worry about the attention. She actually reveled in being the center of interest. Plus, there was a prominent rule in here. No scoundrel will practice their craft within these walls. Honor amongst thieves was the sacred law here. One that the old man was keen on enforcing.

Haggling went on for a while. Stella boasted much about her findings, trying to get better prices than her usual fare. She recalled with delight stories to the few passerby. And while not all of her attempts were successful, she was having a good time and would leave this place richer than when she arrived for sure. She was in her element here. Ironically, for a child taken away from a life of honest fishing work, she did feel right at home here.

Before concluding her business, Stella's eyes became more focused, serious, after finished her pint of ale.

"Say, grandpa, ya wouldn't know anythin' 'bout a clan of vampire in the area, would ya? I been tracking a rumor of their kin lurkin' somewhere in the jungle. Apparently related to the bloody calamity at sea. Surely ya know somethin', I can't think of anyone else who has ears everywhere other than ya."

Lalo noticed the crew had split up leaving him alone with Dominique, that or the crew has left Dominique alone with Lalo. Not that they could be blamed, between Lalo's inability to speak normally and Dom's memory loss the two aren't exactly the sparkling company they used to be before the curse.
Lalo patted Dominique on the shoulder saying "time for a drink, I think."
A genuine smile spread on his face as the stars aligned and he found another easy rhyme to convey his true thoughts.
"come, you can order us three bottles of rum"

Inside the thieves den

Stella would be met with a stern frown and a low grunt before the old man continued in a hushed tone.  "I wish it was just a clan... look, most know to stay clear of them cursed jungles, for good reason mind you... now i don't know nothing bout the blood seas that anyone else can't tell ya, but blood suckers? They've plagued Tapyoka for centuries... why do you think I have that big Oaken door and carry this lovely cane despite walking fine? Vampires. How many? So many that even famous hunters have avoided these jungles. They ain't like regular vampires, they are savages among savages. They take the unlucky drunks from horzo at night and drag them to their doom... these ain't like regular vampires who hide in society, these are tribals who worship death and bathe in as much blood as they drink. Tapyoka is a big island, but you ever wonder why there's only Horzo on the coast? Cause any other would be settlement gets razed to the ground before a name can be picked for it... to answer your question. I can't help you much, I do know there's more than 'a clan' of them though. I'd say there's whole villages of them. Man i know said he found a cave that led underground, he said the floor and walls had been painted with blood. Writing he couldn't understand... If I was looking for a group of vampires? I'd start with caves in the jungle... Mind you If i was ever out searching for vampires you could consider me crazy. I'm no Yahno Fullah"

(Fun fact, Yahno Fullah is the vampire hunter the crew met in Gurgot. His curse is unknown to you but you've seen his ability to conjure arrows of sunlight. He has declined to join Rahull's crew twice now.)

Dominique eyes danced across the visage of the Tapyoka. A port town with a bustling fisherman and trade. The young man blindly followed behind Lailo as he attempted to remember things. Small things, big things, cities, countries, provinces...home. But he still couldn't remember anything. Dominique wondered if this was his home, if he would bump into his long lost relative and they would embrace with familial love and drag him home, but was that even possible? The thought did bring a large smile to his face. He was dragged out of the Crimson Sea by himself with only the clothes on his back and his fans. He was alone until the Sweet Revenge.

A pat on his shoulder snapped him back to reality. Lalo and Dominique were left alone by the others,"Oh! Where did the others go? Was I daydreaming again? A drink? Sounds awesome!" Getting lost in the excitement of a new drunk experience Dom completely forgot that they were vampire hunting. The young man allowed himself to be dragged along by Lalo with a bright smile,"What's rum again?"

“What do you want,” a gruff voice called as Aiko entered the store. She whispered to her bird, “Suki.”

The bird swiveled to see an old man stocking a shelf with books. He grumbled, ”Well?”

“I’m in search of some books for a long travel…sir.”
Aiko turned toward the man, nodding her greetings.

He stepped down from the stool, “Do you see a title in front of my name? A badge? The name’s Hellsteine. No sir. No mister. And definitely no sire.” Aiko smiled awkwardly, fidgeting as she contemplated.

The old man smiled wryly, “A joke? Keen? Well anyways, since you’re the only one curious enough to shop at this broken down mess, I’ll halve the price for your purchase.”

Aiko paused, uncertainty evident in her posture, “Si- Hellsteine are you certain?” The man shrugged, shooing her off with a weathered hand. She smiled excitedly, joy in her step as she moved toward the shelves.

"Interesting..."

Stella nodded contently at the story. Well, it would appear they were up to quite the challenge. Savage bloodthirsty tribals. At the very least, they wouldn't lose time trying to snuff out a sect hiding in civilization. She'll just have to find where exactly they are hiding in the jungle. Probably not such a hard task, but she was no bloodhound, and she sure wasn't as familiar with the jungle as its vampiric denizens.

Stella hummed to herself, in thoughts. It would be quite a foolhardy quest to go look out after them by herself. That and the good captain probably wouldn't be happy to have her disappearing out of the blue on a fool's errand before reporting her findings.

"I knew coming to ya was goin' to be a good idea, thanks for the tip!"

She held out a hand to the wise old man as she stood up.

"Pleasure doin' business with you, lass. Looking forward to next time."

A pat on the back and a wink, Stella left the hideout with a grin, and the old man with a surprise platinum coin in hand as the girl's hand he just shook left. Well well well, she did finally pick up on that trick after all.

---------------------------------------------

Moments later, Stella was back on ship with a few hefty pouches of coins. Tossing her cloak aside and grabbing her hat, the azure-eyed pirate lady made her way on deck to join with the captain. She herself was joined by a colorful bird that landed on her shoulder. A feathery companion she had bought some years ago from a fellow mariner. Quite the smart bird, sharing a love of gold as well.

"Cap'n." She offered Rahull a curt bow and a flourish of her hat to her chest. "I'm back with some news, and coins too."

Stella presented the pouches she acquired from selling some of the loot she had pawned off from the hideout. While it saddened her to part with this much gold, she had to provide her share to the crew.

"So about dem vampires we're looking for..."

She explained the situation to Rahull as she had heard from her sources.

"Want me to track 'em down?"

NeonFlow NeonFlow

Rahull listened with a patient murmur, the situation being worse then they were led to believe. "When that blood suckin bastard said family i think we all thought small covern... We'd do better sailing to the west of the island, start from the wilds. Have Aiko's bird scan the jungle before we send anyone off searching for a cave."
Was a decent hour or two before the crew was assembled again, Rahull thankful for the bottle of rum and roasted turkey leg Lalo and Dominique brought back for him.
"I pray we soon be rid of these curses, then I can hunt whatever I fancy on dry land. "
Rahull mused before catching the crew up on their next move...

"we be after a cave of tribal vampires, not sure if communication can be established but either way ya all best be stocked and ready."
Was what Rahull finished on. Lalo made electricity spark from his hands as he made a dramatic showing of his oaken club, as if trying to convey a message.
Rahull nodded before asking the group if they preferred they wait until morning or set sail now and adventure into the jungle, nightfall be dammed.
