Jaspiel Bennet
The trainer barely spares the guards on duty a glance. The dusty arena of Blackthorn City's Compound was dotted sparingly with avatars and other humans. If the guards were completely forgotten from the count, it was actually an even mix (for once), even though avatars still far outnumbered humans outside of the protective compound walls.

Jaspiel can see them from the corner of her eye, some of the other trainers that had been conscripted alongside her - both from more affluent families than hers, probably brought to Blackthorn City due to it's impenetrable defences. If the dragon-type gym didn't have them avoiding the city - on top of the already formidable Guard, then the fact that dragon type pokemon lingered around the city probably did. Pokemon weren't as dangerous as avatars, that was true, but it didn't exactly mean that people wanted to upset parenting dragon-type pokemon in their natural environment.

Blackthorn City Compound was as safe as a compound could get.

Crossing her arms, Jaspiel frowns. It was so easy for the Avatar League to conscript humans when they never had to look in the eyes of the people they were tearing away from their lives for the entitlement of avatars. Some humans and avatars were trying to get along, and while Jaspiel also wanted that - someone she could get along with if she was going to be stuck with them for the next three years - her pride was interfering with her ability to approach any of the avatars with a gentle smile and a handshake. Though maybe she'd make an exception if she saw someone who didn't seem like they were going to boast about their abilities for the next half hour.

"When is this blasted event going to be over?" Jaspiel mutters, frustrated that it was being treated with such ceremony. The fancy tables with the flowers and the decorative platters of food - sandwiches, pastries, cheeses and fruits - were an unnecessary addition to what was such an unwelcome day for many humans. She knows that she's supposed to use this chance to scout out her potential partner, but so far, the brief conversations she's had with some avatars hasn't unveiled 'partner material'.

Kliff

Kliff looked around the area at the many humans and avatars mingling together. No doubt Kliff would probably be one of those people mingling later on, but as for right now, he was busy writing a song and enjoying the food they were given. Despite coming from a powerhouse family in the Television industry, Kliff rarely went to parties or publicity events so this was all so new to him.

Kliff thought over his experience so far. After receiving word he was conscripted, he was put through some training. After the training, everyone was brought to Blackthorn City for this ceremony. Where they were supposed to just walk up to some random person.

To be honest, Kliff didn't understand it. How did they expect everyone to just randomly choose someone to spend the next 3 years of their life with. It would have made sense for them to at least allow everyone to interact more, but that didn't happen either. Kliff sighed as he popped a strawberry in his mouth.

"When is this blasted event going to be over?" The girl next to him asked. She seemed to be frustrated or annoyed. Kliff looked at her with a giant grin.

"I don't know but even if you don't like it you should enjoy the perks." Kliff held up a sandwich from his plate, "Like this delicious food!"

Kliff smiled wider as he started nibbling the sandwich. He looked down next to his feet to see Ci Ci and Skittles eating as well. Kliff laughed as they started throwing food back and forth between each other, and chattering animatedly with each other.

WIP POKES

rUK62oy.jpg

Wip tried to turn her smile up-side-down. She failed. Maybe it was because it hadn’t rhymed. Maybe it was because the muscles in her face weren’t physically able to do it. Maybe it was both. Either way, she, like always, conceded to grinning like an idiot while she walked around with a half-eaten sandwich hand. At least, here, she could stuff her face with food to make the smirk less noticeable, but out in the wild, there were no such securities. She’d once considered getting a bandanna and using it to cover her mouth, but had quickly dismissed the idea. It would’ve gotten in the way of her breathing.

Taking another bite of her snack, sidestepping a rather tall Boufallant avatar, Wip made her way to the end of the room, reaching the wall just as she finished off her sandwich. Picking up another one from the table beside her, she spun around and began powering back to the end she started at. Too self-aware and anxious to just sit around and chat, she had decided to walk back and forth across the room to relieve some of her stress. This was her fifth crossing, and she had no intention of stopping anytime soon.

Wip knew the she should really be looking around for a potentially trainer to be matched with, but, to be frank, she couldn’t be bothered. Also, she was too nervous to even approach any, let alone trying to pry whatever information she needed from them. She didn’t even know what kind of partner she wanted. What kind of partner did she want? Probably someone who would be cool with her perpetual smile. And have actual experience with this journeying thing. They might as well be really rich as well. And have a car, so they wouldn’t have to walk at all.

Absentmindedly rubbing her shell bracelet things, engrossed with imagining a perfect partner, Wip almost failed to notice that her path had deviated from its original straight line and that she was about to crash into the people sitting at the table beside her. Quickly executing the advanced evasive manoeuvre that was slowing down and changing direction, she managed to successfully escape from the potential impact and threat to innocent civilians while retaining her dignity by hoping that no one saw that. Exhausted from that close call, she collapsed into a nearby seat, breathing moderately lightly and silently congratulating herself for the well-preformed act. Helping herself to a bowl of strawberries, she reclined back in her chair, idly wondering why the human next to her was wearing headphones.

Calib walked away from another human disappointed. That was the fifth one who'd given him a bad answer. He supposed it was to be expected though. All of the avatars here were here by choice. They'd made the decision to go on a journey and get stronger. The humans were just a tool to facilitate that. Most of them didn't even want to be here, maybe all of them. He hoped that wasn't the case. Having to drag around an uncooperative partner would get annoying fast.

There was another group of humans sitting around one of the tables, making awkward small talk to put off having to socialize with the avatars. Didn't they realize that they'd be stuck with one of these avatars for the next three years? Avoiding speaking to them was not what they should be doing. Calib narrowed his eyes in irritation and continued on walking past those humans. Odds were none of them were what he was looking for.

His attention was grabbed by a young man with bright orange hair, for some reason wearing headphones. The thing that had caught his attention though had been his laugh. All of the other humans seemed nervous, but this guy was laughing as if the decisions made on this day wouldn't dictate his life for the next three years. Plenty of eyes had flicked towards the person who'd laughed. Calib turned and walked towards him. He'd get to the guy first to check if he was what he was looking for. But as he got closer he was disappointed to see that it looked like another avatar had already gotten there first, if the self-assured posture and sitting right next to him was any indication. It looked like this human had already been claimed.

He altered his trajectory slightly to instead arrive in front of the person sitting next to the young man, on the other side of him than the Slowpoke avatar. It was a young woman. A very beautiful young woman. Calib kept his hands behind his back as he walked right up to her, his face not giving away what he was thinking. He did a mental run-through of the questions he needed answered before considering a human to be partner material. The order he asked the questions in was just as important as the questions themselves, and he only got one chance to not mess anything up. "Pardon my asking," he prepared his first loaded question, "but do you want to be here?"

There weren't a lot of humans that approached Tripp, mostly because he looked like yet another human, just with some questionable fashion choices. The fact that he looked like he'd rather be dead than standing in the arena definitely didn't help him in that regard. Why had he thought that this was a good idea, something that he should have done instead of working in his parents' company? Oh, wait, that was because they expected him to do this. They could remember how they fought with one of his older brother's before he had left home, pointing out that Tripp was his younger brother and still going out. Some nonsense argument, as if that would change Alexis's decision. What was the age-cap of when an Avatar could decide to go journeying with a trainer, anyway? He had never cared enough to look into that. Maybe Tripp should have stood up for himself, like his brother did.

Whatever, that wasn't important now, he guessed. He drummed his fingers on the table he had chosen to stand near, watching the pastries on the table instead of looking up at all of the other people. The cookies sitting on the table wouldn't try talking to him. Perhaps, if he stared down at them long enough, he could become a cookie and not have to attempt actual communication with people that didn't actually want to talk to him. Yeah, as if that would ever happen, but he supposed he could dream. He stopped drumming on the table to pick up one of the cookies and break it in half, so that he could offer that part to Shiro. The mouse-pokemon sitting on his shoulder happily took the cookie and started nibbling on it, effectively covering his shirt in cookie crumbs. Well, he saw that coming. He was about to give the other half of the cookie to Adrien when he rethought getting crumbs in his hair, stuffed the cookie in his own mouth, and pulled a battery out of pocket to offer the Joltik. They seemed to be his favourite treat, so Tripp constantly carried batteries in his pocket to feed his pet with. At the very least, the human that decided to be his Trainer would never have to worry about being short on batteries while he was nearby.

Nearby, he could hear a human girl complaining about "when this blasted thing would be over". Well, he hoped that he didn't end up her partner- In theory, he could refuse until they were forced to find the two of them different partners, should she have chosen him. Well, that would have only been able to happen if he found it in him to outright refuse her. Typically, he was a bit too compliant to refuse somebody like that. Still, she seemed really bitchy from the singular thing he had heard her say. Near her, there was a human boy talking about enjoying the food. He seemed to have a brighter outlook on things....

Arceus, Tripp wished he wasn't there. If he hadn't decided to do this, there probably would have been one less unhappy human there, and he could have probably been at home, watching some sort of morning cartoon or something else cute and entertaining. He couldn't back out, he was already there. Well, maybe he could have just decided to book it out of the compound, but he was pretty sure that wouldn't have been the best course of action.

In an attempt to soothe his nerves some, he stuffed a whole cookie into his mouth, and then promptly almost choked on it because there was too much in his mouth. Shit, he should have thought that through.

"Yes, yes, you're quite sweet. Of course, I can't make any commitments yet- who knows, you might be about to meet a human you'll work with a million times better than me." She laughed, trying to peacefully extricate herself from this very pushy Bouffalant Avatar who just wasn't quite taking "no" for an answer. She forced one last smile and dashed away, grabbing an empty plate and filling it quickly with cheese and fruit, praying he didn't follow her.

She handed the plate to Gulab, before picking him up and settling him nicely in her arms. He'd been sulking the entire day, but he seemed to perk up as she cradled him in one arm, picking up the hors d'oeurves with her free hand.. Oh, why on earth had she been drafted all the way to Johto for this nonsense? Could they not have assigned her to the league in Kalos? She wasn't quite sure of the proper customs here, and all the dragons lurking outside had been rather intimidating. She hadn't ever expected this to be her fate- she was a Defee, not some.. trainer! She shook her head violently as she took a bite of her cheese, her short blonde wig going slightly askew. Ugh, she hadn't put in enough pins, what a nightmare.

She hovered by the buffet table as she sampled the various foods- it was all a rather nice spread. She would have liked a couple more soft cheeses, or maybe for the refreshments to be a little less sugary, but she ought not complain. She couldn't help but laugh as this odd party went on around her. One woman seemed discontent by the whole process, sulking in a corner. Another man seemed quite the opposite, completely delighted to be here and doing his best to cheer up the discontent woman (a seemingly impossible task). A small crowd seemed to be gathering in that area, as a Slowpoke and Honedge Avatar approached the two oddly matched trainers.

Yes, it did seem that even as they were supposed to interact, certain personalities were being drawn to each other. Cosette herself had yet to speak to an Avatar that seemed like she could get along with them for more than 5 minutes, let alone 3 entire years. Despite her personal policy to always see the bright side of things, this whole experience seemed a little disheartening.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of chocking, and Cosette turned to the young man next to her. "Oh, my goodness, are you alright?" She didn't quite move to help him, as he wasn't actively chocking, but her concern was blatant. "Do you need me to fetch you some water?"

Jaspiel Bennet
More people had heard the words she had thought she'd spoken quietly than she'd expected; when making that kind of first impression hadn't been her intention at all. Trying to make a clean break from her earlier pessimism, Jaspiel reflexively gives the enthusiastic male trainer treating the process like a party a light smile in reaction to his suggestion. If he was having fun, she didn't want to put a dampener on that; it was good to see that someone was. He could have been a volunteer, eager to be part of the process, for all she knew. Her arms unfold and Jaspiel plucks a dark grape from the fruit pile, holding it demonstratively in her fingers for her fellow trainer to see, before she pops it in her mouth.

As she does so, her eyes linger momentarily on the smiling avatar that joins them, but Jaspiel's glance silently indicates some sort of passivity - she isn't trying to chase anyone off, even if her previous stance would probably read as guarded. It's not avatars she dislikes, it's the League.

Someone else makes their way over, and Jaspiel can't decide whether they look bored or composed. Though their question seems like it's aimed at her, and turning her head to properly assess the blue-haired avatar, the trainer frowns, deciding to echo back the sentiment to the person who had spoken it to her. "Do I want to be here? No. I didn't volunteer - but this was the choice I made." It wasn't much of a choice, considering that refusal was so heavily penalized. Her disdain for the process colours her otherwise polite and gentle tone.

However, the fact that the avatar had actually cared to ask whether she wanted to be there perks her interest, and perhaps encourages her to give her a less harsh answer. "A better question would be: do I want to be out there?" Jaspiel gestures in a random direction with a sweep of her hand which is supposed to indicate the outside world - the one that avatars inhabit so freely, a less discontent expression on her face. It's what the Journey is giving her access to, even if she dislikes the fact she was forced into it like the majority of young trainers.

"Yeah, maybe I do." This admittance is softer. "Wouldn't you want to experience the world if you've always been locked inside?" Her eyes lift and travel across the faces around her, the last question that she'd asked obviously an open one. The trainer across from her could probably relate to that, at least - even if the Honedge and the Slowpoke didn't.

Tripp used one of his hands to prop himself on the table, while the other went to his throat as he tried to swallow the cookie. He exhaled when it finally went down, relieved that he could finally get air back into his lungs without issue once again. Arceusdamn, that was... That was the first impression of him the girl beside him got of him. Her question seemed concerned, but she also seemed to have realized that he hadn't actually been choking on the cookie he had crammed in his mouth whole. Fuck, fuck, he wanted to hide under the table he had gotten the cookie off of and not come out for another eight months. Maybe eight years. Yes, hide under a table for another eight years, that sounded like a good idea. Instead of diving head-first under the table, though, he turned to face the girl that had inquired as to whether or not he was okay, a bright red blush on his cheeks. He could talk to this girl without dying, it would be fine.

"U-Uhm, no, I'm alright, thanks though," He replied, taking a moment to search for something more to say. She looked human, so he needed to be polite- He'd been told that, generally, he was really difficult to get along with, but he couldn't do that with this girl. He needed a Trainer to pick him and, well, she was one of the people who had an option of picking him to go on a journey with. Fuck, the more he had to talk to people to try and get them to pick him, the less he wanted to continue on this. He still didn't even want to be there in the first place. His little sister had come home missing an entire damn leg due to trying to challenge the league, he didn't want to put himself at risk for that. "I'm Tripp, a Togepi Avatar, nice to meet you."

He took a moment to actually examine what the girl looked like- Something seemed a bit off about her hair, but he couldn't quite but his finger on what. It definitely didn't seem natural... Hair dye? A really good wig? He couldn't tell which, but he definitely knew that something wasn't quite natural about it. That wasn't to say it looked bad, because it was definitely a good fashion choice for her, in his eyes. Her dress looked... Familiar. Was that once of his Mother's designs? He hadn't been expecting to see something as familiar as that during this small... Banquet. He felt no need to comment on it, though; it didn't matter whether or not she was wearing clothes his mother marketed, and it was probably in poor taste to just ask something like that. In addition, he didn't want her to feel the need to pick him just because he was the son of a fashion designer, and that might have happened if he decided to comment.

Kliff

When Kliff looked up and saw people looking at him because of his outburst, he started looking them in the eye and winking. Once he finished, Kliff started humming along to the song he was listening to when he started noticing more people come over to the table. He watched as an Avatar sat next to him. He turned towards her and gave her a smile, happy that he wasn't the only one enjoying the food.

"Hello! I'm Kliff Beid." He stuck his hand out towards the female avatar sitting next to him. While doing so he noticed that the girl he spoke to earlier, popped a grape into her mouth. Kliff smiled as he shot her a thumbs up with his other hand. Kliff then noticed another avatar make his way over to the table, "Wow! This table is popular!" Kliff muttered.

The avatar looked as if he was walking towards Kliff at first, but as he got closer, Kliff realized he was making his way towards the girl. Kliff turned his attention back towards the pink haired avatar next to him.

"Pardon my asking, but do you want to be here?" Kliff heard the male avatar ask the female trainer.

"Do I want to be here? No. I didn't volunteer - but this was the choice I made." Kliff heard the girl respond. Kliff smiled as he made muttered his own remark, to himself.

"I don't think anyone volunteers willfully. There's always someone else, usually the government, who forces you into the program. "

Kliff leaned back in his chair, " If I wasn't conscripted, I'd be helping my family out at the TV studio right now."

Kliff continued to listen without making it to obvious and once the girl said "Wouldn't you want to experience the world if you've always been locked inside?" Kliff had to smile. Every human dreams of leaving the compound at least once in their lives, though unfortunately, the 'easiest' way to do so is to become a trainer.

Kliff replaced all of his attention back towards the female avatar sitting next to him, eating from a bowl of strawberries.

The man- avatar, turned towards her, a blush spattering his cheeks. Even in her heels, he was quite a bit taller than her, so to see a man of his stature look so taken aback was intriguing. She nodded understandingly through his assurances that he was fine- she spared a glance at the cookies. If she had been a little less occupied with presenting herself, she too, might have tried to devour one whole. He seemed polite enough, at least- most of the Avatars she met today had been either horrible pushy, or simply seemed disinterested in her.

She smiled politely as he introduced himself. He was an Avatar, was he? She had simply thought he'd been in Togepi patterned clothes. It wasn't entirely unusual for people to wear shirts and skirts patterned after various pokemon. "My name is Cosette, and I'm a trainer. I'd shake your hand, but mine are a little occupied right now." She lifted Gulab slightly, indicating his position in her arms, as thought Tripp could have possibly missed him. "And this little bundle of joy is Gulab." The Roselia grimaced at Tripp.

She noticed him staring, looking over her outfit- was it curiousity, or disgust? She was never quite sure, with some people. She refrained from rolling her eyes- back in Kalos, people would have at least been a little polite. She'd gotten a lot of weird questions in her life, from people insisting she was some kind of performer in a play (which made no sense due to her being a human) or asking why she walked around dresses like a toddler. Thankfully, like any Lifestyle Lolita, she had a speech prepared. "Oh, I guess I do look a little odd, don't it? It's called Lolita- it's a street fashion meant to emphasize femininity. It might not look it, but it's rather comfy." She explained, taking one hand away from her pet to smooth her skirt. "It's a rather pretty design, isn't it?" She asked, spreading her skirt out just a bit to display the pattern. The question was framed almost like a challenge.

She paused for a moment, waiting for his reaction- if he said something snippy or rude, it would be pretty plain he wasn't the kid of Avatar she could work with.

Tripp de Vries
Oh Arceus she noticed.

"Cosette?" Tripp repeated after her, to make sure he was hearing her correctly. He wasn't hearing impaired, so he would've bet he was hearing her correctly, but with any name that wasn't something like "Bob" or "James", he felt the need to repeat their name to make sure. If he said it incorrectly, they'd correct him, and, if he said it correctly, they wouldn't. An easy way to make sure, they wouldn't offend anybody. "That's a very pretty name. I don't think I've met anyone with your name before," She was probably from a different region than he was, judging by her accent. Nobody in Unova had an accent quite like that. Maybe it was a common name in where she was from.

His eyes moved down to the Roselia she was carrying- it was fucking adorable. So small, with it's flower hands. He wanted to pet it's small, leafy head. No, he couldn't do that. What if it was only friendly toward her? He'd met some damn unfriendly domesticated Pokemon in the past, and had learned through those experiences that he probably shouldn't just rub a stranger's pet. He tore his eyes away from the Grass Pokemon to look back up at Cosette, ""Roselia are so cute, aren't they?.... Oh, Uhm, the one in my hair is Adrien, and Shiro is on my shoulder,"The addition of introducing his own Pokemon only came as an afterthought- She had never adressed them, but giving her their names was probably a good plan.

Oh, shit, she had noticed him looking at her dress. He needed to think of someting, fast. "Oh, yes, my mom and older sister are both really into Lolita fashion, and I thought that design looked familiar. It's very pretty, where did you get it?" He asked. That technically wasn't a lie, he guessed; Did being in the fashion industry count as "being into" something? He thought he'd seen them both wearing their company's clothes from time to time, so he could only guess that they actually did like the clothing they designed and sold.

CALIBURN L CID

"Do I want to be here? No."

Calib was already mentally drawing a red X over the woman's face, deleting her from the list of possible human partners, but she wasn't done.

"I didn't volunteer - but this was the choice I made," she continued. "A better question would be: do I want to be out there? Yeah, maybe I do. Wouldn't you want to experience the world if you've always been locked inside?"

He stopped to consider her answer, and her question as well, his cold blue eyes so unreadable one might have mistaken them for belonging to an ice-type avatar. Calib knew a bit about how humans lived. Not extensively, the subject was one he avoided due to its uninteresting nature, but it did show up in some books he read, and there was no avoiding the occasional bit of news about the human compounds on the television. But that was simply the way things were. Humans lived in compounds. That was how it worked. For them to think there was some fundamental difference between the world inside the compounds and outside them was something Calib couldn't be bothered to try and comprehend.

If this woman's ambition only amounted to running around in the outside world, then he had no use for her. There would be too large a disparity between their goals. He awarded her answer two out of ten possible points. The highest so far, but still not what he was looking for.

"I wouldn't know,"
Calib finally said in an even tone. "I'm not a human. Next question. For one day, you can do whatever you want. What would you spend the day doing? If you don't want to say, you don't have to. Or you can lie, that's fine too I suppose." The saying might go that a picture is worth one thousand words, but a forgery was still worth quite a few itself. He'd come prepared with various questions to probe the trainers who he could be partnered with. What they said and how they said it were both important to learning about them. If she told the truth or lied, either way he'd have learned something useful.

WIP POKES

Munching on her sandwich, Wip gazed around at the people loitering near people, talking to people and eating with people. Every one of these people would soon be people going on a three-year journey out into the wild, facing challenges both known and unknown, bonding together or breaking apart, all for a single, common goal. And she would be one of them. A strange thought.

Suddenly, a hand was stuck into her field of view. Starting backwards a bit, Wip looked to see that it was the headphone guy. Did he think she was trying to talk to him or something? Smiling nervously, she took the offered hand and shook. “Um. Hi, Kliff. My name’s Wip…” But he had already turned away to the brown-haired girl sitting next to him to thumbs-up her, for some reason. She seemed rather unenthusiastic about this all, and a cool-looking Honedge avatar had come to the table and was currently talking to her.

Turning her attention back to the Kliff, Wip noticed for the first time that he had bright orange hair. Was that dyed? Humans usually didn’t have anything other than pale, brown or black hair, so that must have been. If it wasn’t… she would have to re-evaluate what she thought was her pretty decent knowledge of humans. He had turned back now, but he seemed to be eavesdropping on his neighbor’s conversation – something about choice and freedom.

That Honedge was actually asking some pretty deep questions, and the girl seemed happy to answer them. Probably because of the setting – but maybe it was just a human thing to reply to queries into their philosophical feelings from a complete stranger. They must have had super hearing abilities as well, because Kliff seemed to be somehow hearing the talking while wearing headphones and muttering something under his breath. Or maybe it was the strawberries he was eating. Wip had heard stories of pretty weird stuff happening when people on journeys ate wild berries.

“So, uh, - ” She stopped. Something had moved under the table. Something small. And furry. And… cute. Only thinking to get as far away from that thing as possible, she leapt out of her seat, stepped backwards, tripped over the chair, half-fell to the ground, and caught herself on the edge of the table, then scrambled backwards, crashing into the seat again. She sat there on the floor for a second, then picked up the chair, placed it back to where it was, then stood behind it, casting wary glances at the ground every so often, all while keeping that smile on her face.

Kliff smiled as Wip shook his hand, "Well , it's nice to meet you, Wip!" Even if they ended up not being compatible, Kliff was still happy that he was meeting someone new. As he wanted for Wip to continue he started eating more of his sandwich.

“So, uh, - ”

Before she could finish, Kliff felt CiCi run inbetween their legs. Kliff watched as Wip jumped up and proceeded to fall around a lot. Kliff jumped up, alarmed, and excliamed, "Are you okay?!?!"

Kliff saw that throughout all of that, Wip was still smiling sommehow. It was unsettling to say the least, as she reacted as if she was anything but happy.

Kliff looked on the floor and saw CiCi underneath his chair. He smiled and oicked her up, "Oh! This is Cici!"

Cici continued to happily chatter her name. Then Skittles jumped onto Kliff's lap, next to CiCi, "and this is Skittles!"

Skittles, however, did not answer back as Skittles and CiCi had already fell asleep on his lap.

Jaspiel Bennet
His logic baffles her. Being human had nothing to do with it, did the avatar truly have no experience with what it was like to feel contained within a small area of space? Perhaps it was because they were required to have a clean public record to be admitted to the partner program. But either way, it was a simple social skill to be able to empathize.

"One day..." Jaspiel pauses to consider it properly. "If I only had one day, I would probably be filming as many weather conditions as I can." It's the truth plain and simple, but it almost sounds uninteresting to her ears.

She sighs, "Or if I could pick the day, I'd choose a natural disaster - that way it's a truly unforgettable experience, both for me and my audience." It probably sounds stupid to anyone that doesn't understand her passions, but Jaspiel doesn't care. The weather is capable of producing many beautiful things. Rainbows, lightning flashes, hail, snow...

The very sound of it enraptures Jaspiel. It's exciting and completely doable.

Then because of his question, she inclines her head toward him with a dip. "What about you?" She inquires politely of the blue haired man, trying to figure out exactly what motivated such strange questions.

Wip slowly pulled back the chair. “Yes, I’m fine, sorry about that.” She could feel her cheeks burning with embarrassment as sat down again. Not a very good first impression, was it? The girl sitting next to Kliff seemed to have not noticed, at least. “It’s just that I’m not very good with small Pokemon. They kind of… freak me out, sort of. But not really.” Terrible at explanations, as always. Eyeing the things on Kliff’s lap, with one seeming to have fallen asleep within the span of seconds, she continued. “They look cute. Very cute… Anyway, I guess I should be asking you stuff about all this.” She swept an arm across the room. Settling back into her seat, she prepared her question.

“So, uh, you don’t seem particularly upset with being forced into doing this, unlike most of the other humans here. In fact, you look almost happy to do it.” Wip paused. “Well, I can’t really say much, considering this smile I have stuck to my face. Do you know why Slowpokes have that dopey expression all the time? It isn’t because they’re slow and stupid – it’s actually because their face is just made that way. They can’t change their facial features that easily. Since I’m a Slowpoke avatar, I have the same problem, so you might find it a bit weird to see me grinning at nothing all the time, but trust me. That’s just my neutral face. Don’t be too alarmed.”

Wip stopped to let out a breath. “Sorry. I went off on a tangent there. You wouldn’t be very interested in hearing my problems. So I’ll stop.” She stared awkwardly at Kliff for a moment, then glanced around the room. People were settling in now, more accustomed to the setting, and there were a bunch of pairs forming everywhere. Human-avatar partners. There was that Boufallant avatar from before… wait, it’s spelt Bouffalant, not Boufallant. It was still the Bouffalant avatar, though. There was also what looked like a pair of humans nearby with questionable fashion choices. Maybe the guy really wanted to get a Togepi avatar, so he dressed like one to attract them? Speaking of appearances… Wip turned back to Kliff. “There’s something else I’d like to know, if you don’t mind me asking. What’s up with the orange hair and the headphones? Humans usually don’t have colors like that or bring those things to places like these, do they?”

CALIBURN L CID

fade_the_honedge_by_lanmana-dacylog.jpg

"Pass," Calib said, following his own allowance for declining to answer. The point was for him to learn about potential human partners. That it might be beneficial for them to learn about him as well was something that hadn't even crossed his mind. "But I suppose to be fair I can at least say this much: I do want to be here."

He spent a moment formulating his next question. It wasn't one he'd prepared ahead of time, instead it was one meant specifically to test this person. Calib had to try hard to keep his face and body language from giving anything away, but he thought he did a pretty good job. He was usually good at concealing his thoughts. "My third question," he stared into the human's eyes as he spoke. "If you wish to show your audience something so unforgettable as a natural disaster, would not the easiest way of doing that be to create a natural disaster yourself?"

He wasn't done though. "That way you would be prepared for it. Think of how professional it would come off not to be flustered at all when faced with a disaster. There are ways to do that you know. Beings in this world that could be made to cause any kind of weather phenomenon you could want, any kind of disaster you wanted to film, whenever you wanted to."

"If you have a goal and it's something you care about, then what would you do to make it come true?" His eyes refused to leave hers. The previous questions had been easy ones, just generic openers really. This one was actually meant to break through her defenses and let him see the kind of person he was dealing with. Whatever kind of answer she gave, Calib didn't think he'd need to ask any more questions to have this human figured out.

Kliff waved it off, "It's fine. No problem!" Although Kliff couldn't understand why, not everyone loved small cute pokemon.

"So, uh, you don’t seem particularly upset with being forced into doing this, unlike most of the other humans here. In fact, you look almost happy to do it."

Kliff continued to smile despite the slight change in his tone of voice, " I'm actually not happy to be here, as a matter of fact as my friend next to me so eloquently put it, very few people actually volunteer if they are human. However, as you said I'm not upset either. What's done is done so I've decided that I'd make the best of situations that are beyond my control. I refuse to let the government take my happiness." Kliff answered.

When Wip explained that Slowpokes' faces were naturally stuck in a smile, Kliff had a moment of "Ohh!". That explained how even when falling out of a chair she still continued to smile. At first Kliff thought she was drunk or something, but he blushed at even thinking it.

“Sorry. I went off on a tangent there. You wouldn’t be very interested in hearing my problems. So I’ll stop.”

"Oh no! You're fine!" Kliff answered with a small chuckle. He watched as the girl took a few moments to look around before turning back towards him.

“There’s something else I’d like to know, if you don’t mind me asking. What’s up with the orange hair and the headphones? Humans usually don’t have colors like that or bring those things to places like these, do they?”

Kliff laughed, " As for the orange hair, it is actually 100% natural. I'm not sure how it happened. I was probably supposed to be a redhead or something, but my hair became too light or something."

Kliff rubbed the back of his head, as he continued to chuckle. He then touched the ear of his headphones hanging from his neck, " As for my headphones, they were a gift from my mother and father to help me practice my music even when I'm not physically practicing / busy. It sometimes gets a bit hectic at my family's television studio."

She smiled kindly- he had actually said her name right! She had been correcting people on it all week, it seemed, so this was a pleasant change. "Thank you! It's Kalosi, and it seems to be a little odd around here. It's not entirely uncommon in Kalos, but it's not exactly an everyday name. Tripp is nice, too!" If they decided to be partners, she'd have to ask him how it was spelled.

In her arms, Gulab seemed to bristle a bit at being called "cute." She laughed a little bit at her spoiled pokemon. "Yes, he's a very handsome boy." She said, both a gentle correction and a placation of her bratty Roselia. "Gulab, say hello to Shiro and Adrien, dear." Gulab looked at the two pokemon, a pout on his face as he nodded in greeting. She laughed again. "He's... a bit slow to warm up to strangers, unfortunately." She said, as he turned away from them to snuggle into her bodice.

"Oh, they are? How cool- Laverre town used to be a hub for Lolita's, before the days of the League, but there aren't a lot of us these days... I ordered this one a few years ago- it's called Ornate City from the brand Frisia! It's located out of Unova, and this brand is rather popular these days. Your mother and sister probably own a few pieces." She explained. He was really sweet- plus talking to him seemed rather easy! Maybe Tripp was the kind of Avatar she could get along with really well.

But then again, there were several people she had yet to talk to- and maybe he had his eye on someone? "Oh, so have you given any thought on who you might partner with? I've had mostly horrid luck with the Avatar's I've chatted with today. You've been the best conversation so far, and I quite appreciate that. I'm not sure how this procedure is supposed to work formally, but if you would consider me as your partner, I'd be quite flattered." She smiled, a little awkwardly- she didn't want to push him into anything, and a part of her wanted to chat around a bit more too, but she felt like she ought to at least offer, rather than just ditching him to talk to someone else.

Wip raised an eyebrow. Raised both eyebrows, actually, because she couldn’t raise just one. Another flaw she had to contend with. “Music? Television studio? So you’re one of those bigshot humans who go and do whatever they do on TV and stuff? Cool. Sounds like a nice life.” She glanced at Kliff’s hair. “A hundred percent natural, eh? Maybe you were a Chimchar avatar in a previous life. They have orange hair, right?” Right? Now that she thought about it, though, she wasn’t too sure herself. Were they orange, or brown, or some other color? Well, close enough, anyway.

Wip awkwardly fingered the league bracelet above her shelly one. What now? There was a potential partner right in front of her, and she didn’t know what to say. She’d never talked to a human before today. They seemed nice so far, but, then again, this was the first human she had personally met. What could she ask him? Why did he chose to go on the journey? Because he was forced to. What did he think about this system? He had just answered that. What was he looking for in a partner?

“What are you looking for in a partner? Something musical? I’m not musical at all, personally. Maybe you want someone influential? Like you. Are you rich? No, wait, more importantly, do you have a car? So I don’t have to walk everywhere – wait, no, you’re a human. You don’t have cars. No offence.” She’d probably offended him. Clap, clap, good job, Wip, just continue on with your horrible conversational methods. She hastily shoved the rest of her sandwich in her mouth before she could embarrass herself even more.

Oh, so she was from Kalos. So he was correct in guessing that she wasn't from Unova... He wasn't surprised by that revelation. Really, he would have been more surprised if she hadn't had an accent that sounded completely unfamiliar to him. In addition to being right about that, he had gotten her name right, which seemed to be something she was rather happy about. Had a lot of people been pronouncing her name incorrectly or something like that? He... Wouldn't ask about that. He wasn't actually concerned about a detail like that.

While he wasn't surprised about her being foreign (like almost everyone else in the room in his eyes) nor getting her name right, the fact that she complimented his name did take him by surprise. Did she really like it? Not many people complimented his name- Some had called it "uncreative", due to how it was just a word name, and others just didn't comment on it, but very few ever told him that it was a nice name. Or was he just making up how often the first two happened? He... wasn't sure. No matter. He was sure his name wasn't complimented much. "Oh, you think so? Thank you. It's... I don't think I've ever met another Tripp. Not in Unova, at least."

"Oh, I see- Yes, he's a very handsome Roselia," Tripp corrected his earlier statement after Cosette corrected him. Gulab was picky about what he was referred to by, that was so cute. Shiro buried his head in the kerchief tied about the Togepi Avatar's neck when he saw the Roselia nod at him, a bit of electricity sparking off of him, which didn't bother Tripp anymore. It didn't hurt, just felt a bit like he had licked the tip of a battery... with his shoulder... That was a poorly chosen metaphor. From on top of his head, Adrien trilled happily at Gulab. "I suppose you could say the same about Shiro... Except he's just scared of everything that isn't me."

She definitely said Frisia. Well, it was no wonder the dress looked familiar to him, his mom owned Frisia. "Oh, yeah, they definitely own some of their clothes. It's a good brand," Best to keep that response short and simple. He didn't really know all that much about Lolita clothing, but he didn't wear it, nor would he be inheriting a company based around selling it, so he didn't actually know that much about it. He knew that he had helped several of his sisters put of corsets that they insisted just had to be worn with the dress, but, past helping someone get dressed, he wasn't very knowledgeable when it came to Lolita fashion.

He didn't miss the days when his older sisters could manage to force him into a Lolita dress.

Oh, she was asking if he had anyone he was considering as a partner- That was a good question, it meant she was considering him. "I... haven't actually managed to talk to many humans. More avatars have approached me than humans, and, uhm, the humans that talked to me before you were all kind of jerks, so I was just hoping they wouldn't pick me as their partner. I would be happy if you would consider me as a potential partner," Arceus, he wanted to shove another whole cookie in his mouth and perhaps successfully choke on it this time around. This girl was nice, and the thought of trying to talk to more people kind of made him want to vomit. The ones he'd already talked to were more than enough, in his opinion.

“Music? Television studio? So you’re one of those bigshot humans who go and do whatever they do on TV and stuff? Cool. Sounds like a nice life.”

Kliff smiled, "it's okay. It's a lot of work and it takes up most of my time but as they say 'If you're doing something you love, then it doesn't count as work'. Then again, I'm not sure who 'they' is referring to."

“A hundred percent natural, eh? Maybe you were a Chimchar avatar in a previous life. They have orange hair, right?”

Kliff thought about it. He wasn't completely sure on what color it was, "It's something. It might be orange, but it might not be. I'm not really sure."

No offence.”

Kliff laughed, "None taken. I've always wanted a car though. It's better than walking but you get used to it."

Kliff leaned back in his chair as he started thinking.

What type of partner do I want? Kliff thought to himself.

They don't have to be musical, although it'd be a plus if they were. Not everyone can be influential and frankly Kliff didn't even see himself as influential, although it could just be the modesty talking. Battle-wise Kliff didn't really care. He didn't care if they were strong or weak. Personality wise, Kliff obviously wanted someone whose personality would compliment his own personality.

Kliff spent his entire life doing two things : Working in the Studio or doing the things he loved by himself. Because of this, he didn't grow up with many friends and those he did have barely got to interact with him.

"I want someone who wouldn't mind that I'm hyper and times or that I tend to tune out of reality. Someone who wouldn't mind me going on and on about music or art. Someone who tells me when I forget something and helps me to become more organized even though it's never going to happen. I want a partner who has no problem helping other when they need it. I want someone who's unique and doesn't like fitting neatly inside of a box. Someone who want's to break the stereotypes that surround them. Someone who has a goal and is determined to achieve that goal. I want someone who I can see as a sibling or a best friend. Someone who I'll end up depending on as much as they depend on me."

Kliff looked up and smiled, " I want someone who I can be proud to have spent three years with. And most importantly, someone who will enjoy my company."

Kliff then took a bite out of his sandwich, " Sorry for going on like that. I kind of got carried away."

Jaspiel Bennet
The obviousness of his claim nearly as Jaspiel shaking her head. Being in the Partner Program was a choice for avatars, though she did suppose that some were expected to join by family or social pressure.

At his suggestion, she raises an eyebrow. Jaspiel doubts she'd ever be flustered in front of a camera, since it's very natural for her to linger there. As to the beings that he was talking about - messing around with legendaries was a dangerous, foolhardy thing to do.

"Easiest maybe - but you forget, I'm not an avatar, and that method would be illegal." If she had even the slightest inclination to be an outlaw or locked up, there were swifter ways to achieve both those things. "Orchestrating such an event would probably have me charged with mass destruction of property, not to mention innocent lives potentially being lost." Her tone is edged with finality, making it clear that these moral reasons would prevent her from ever trying out such an event for herself.

Jaspiel tries not to fault him for such a suggestion though - it's a harmless what-if scenario. Taking a deep breath, she surveys him with a serious expression she's always felt depicted her own maturity as an adult. "There's a limit between dreaming and being selfish... and I don't get 'flustered.'"

Crossing her arms, she appraises the avatar before her with a critical eye. "So... why do you 'pass' on such a question? Conversation is about give and take - generally, if you can't answer the same question you ask, you don't ask." Her tone was disapproving, it was evident she didn't like how unfair it was.
