Dean had one hand on the steering wheel of his beloved muscle car, staring ahead at the long, straight road. It rose and fell, with gentle bends surrounded by overhanging trees. It was cool and calm, inbetween weather that characterized spring. He chewed on a piece of mint chewing gum, glancing every few minutes at his asleep brother. These trips were long, and the hunts at each point exhausting. But he was Sam’s older brother, and he made sure to act like it.

“Hey, Sammy.” He reached across with his free hand to give his brother a light slap on the arm. “Wake up! We’re arriving.” The signpost – ‘Forks, Washington’ – peered out at them from the side of the road. Their motel was on the outskirts of town, and he pulled into the parking lot a few minutes later. It wasn’t the most salubrious of buildings but it would work well enough. Getting out of the car, he uttered a soft, 'hm,' and glanced across to Sam.

Diana sat inside the decrepit building, hugging her knees with her chin pressed into them. Simply put, she was scared. And every fibre in her being was begging her to drink human blood. They hadn’t fed her anything yet, telling her she’d get what she craved when she’d lured enough for them. She was young and attractive enough to draw in men, while disposable if anything went wrong – perfect for them to use. She gently touched the marks on the side of her neck, sitting up slightly.

Bitter tear tracks lined her dusty face. They’d clean her up later, apply make-up to mask the dark circles and puffy eyes. She’d been walking back late, passed into a dark patch between streetlamps – her mother had always warned her of being alone in the night. And now- vampires were real? And she’d been turned to one? She bit down hard on her lip, closing her eyes. They’d locked her in this small room, and there was no chance of escape – she’d already tried, and earned a black eye for her efforts. She was usually willing to try and try again, but the spirit had been beaten out of her.
