Space Adventure

Spoosty

One Time Luck
A closed 1x1 roleplay. This first post will be updated (maybe) with reference pictures, plot points, and anything else we will want to put here.

A few hours had passed since the little green blip on the NLS (Nearby Location Screen) had fallen off the edge and gone out of view. Ark knew this didn't mean he had completely lost his pursuers, but they were far enough behind him that he felt safe making a stop to refill his food and water stores. He tapped a few keys on the control console and set an autopilot to take him to the nearest planet with usable resources.

It had been many sleep cycles since he'd last been outside of his ship, and he was going a bit stir crazy. The ship he piloted, The Dark Memory, wasn't necessarily a small vessel, but it had no open spaces large enough to even walk at a fast pace. The pull of the artificial gravity generator was weaker than an average planet's as well, which gave Ark the constant feeling that if he pushed hard enough with his feet he would just float away. These conditions, although better than most private-use ships, could still prove to be too much to handle for those who were not used to it.

The monitors on the control panel flashed for Ark to approve the location it had picked. He tapped "confirm" without bothering to read the box of information. The Dark Memory adjusted its position and began in the new direction. The text "ETA: one hour and 27 minutes" scrolled across the screen. Good, thought Ark, enough time for a bit of shuteye. "Dark, play music." The artificial intelligence of the ship sounded a three-note jingle that signified it understood, and the ambient music Ark had been listening to before picked up right where it had left off. He reclined in his chair and put his feet up near the steering controls.

"Hmph. What are you doing, sister?" E'ka frowned at the smaller deer next to her currently tugging at her skirt. Her constant pestering had been going on for a few minutes now and was causing a small headache. Her little "sister" was technically a cousin. But her whole herd just called most others brother or sister due to there really being no physical age distinctions. The small race that she was a part of starts very little, and honestly, they grow maybe a foot or two through their extremely long lives. The only ones that did not get called like siblings were the elders. They were the oldest, wisest, and tallest of them all. Of course, it still meant that they were maybe a foot taller than the other but what really stood out from them were their magnificent horns. While they do not grow tall in height, their horns make up for it. They curve and stretch and some even end up as long as the tallest ones are tall! And the best part of it all was that blue moss that almost glowed in the light that hung from everyone's horns. One of the elders has their moss almost touch the floor. It was a huge status symbol, and is one of the reasons that the current elders are there. She gently smiled at the thought of the elder's lovely moss until she was interrupted again in her thoughts by her fellow.

She sighed. And gave the little one some attention. "What is it, sister?" Finally the younger gave a brief answer of hunger to which E'ka just gently showed her towards the main hut where they stored some of their food when they weren't out gathering. Once the other had finally wandered off she started walking towards the edge of her small village. All of her species was a pure white. They blended perfectly in with the snow. She walked and picked up a little bit of it and blew it in front of her. There was a serene beauty in the area she lived in; of course when there wasn't a snow storm. Sadly, she hadn't ever left her village except to forage, but she had heard rumors of others.

The elders had told stories of how they met foreigners who had gleaming pieces of dirt with them. It shone brilliantly in the sunlight, so much that it almost hurt to look at. They had glowing objects that moved and talked and provided things they needed! Of course she can't even picture it. Sometimes she thought the elders made up the stories just to give the youngest ones some entertainment. They insisted upon the truth of their words, but there hasn't been any activity in eons.

She giggled at the idea. It was just too far-fetched. Regardless she loved her life here. She looked at the sky and noticed a few clouds in the distance. Hopefully that the clouds won't bring anything worse for now. They were just about to leave for a forage. She heard the horn bellow and quickly bounded back to the others. After joining the large group of others she listened for the warnings and rules. And soon, the herd was off! Of course, she never quite stuck with the group. While they sped up she stayed towards the back and eventually split off on her own.

There wasn't any danger nearby, typically. Most carnivorous animals have migrated to areas with easier to kill creatures and have mostly left the barren ice-land to the others like herself. The rules were archaic so she liked to have a bit of fun and wander off on her own. Soon she was alone, giggling and hunting for snowberries.

It felt so good to stretch his legs. Ark had made a smooth landing, but it took him nearly 30 minutes just to get out of his chair because of the gravity difference. He made use of that time though, checking the planet's conditions and the best place to find consumable resources. The atmosphere was a little dense for him, but breathable. Temperatures were uncomfortably low, with most of the land being covered in ice and snow drifts. He would have to wear his spacewalk gear to stay warm.

He gathered some collection tools (snips for picking plants, several refrigerated containers, a large water sack and his weapon of choice, an energy pistol) and loaded them onto a hover cart before slipping on his suit. It fit loosely on his lanky frame and made movement cumbersome, but was a preferred alternative to freezing to death. He entered the airlock, made sure the inner door was sealed, and hit the button to exit.

The hatch slid open and Ark immediately threw his hand up to protect his eyes from the blinding whiteness. He stumbled on the first few steps, but the satisfying crunch of ice beneath his feet made him smile. Snow was a new thing for him, and he could already tell it was going to be one of his favorite climate features. Just then, a powerful gust of wind blew into his face and down his neck. He yelped and shivered, and decided activating the full face shield was a good idea. It phased into existence, and the HUD flickered on in front of his vision.

Dragging his cart behind him, Ark made his way to the nav point that Dark had set for him. "There is a large patch of edible berries here," the AI instructed in its flat, digital voice, using the speakers inside the helmet. "No running water source detected, recommended action: gather snow and melt it down. Local inhabitants appear to be basic, uncivilized creatures. Their bodies contain no harmful chemicals and would be safe to eat, if properly prepared."

Ark smirked and continued marching at a slow pace. "Feel like having a barbecue, Dark?"

"No thank you, sir. I am sustained by solar energy."

Ark rolled his eyes and said nothing in reply. He had given up long ago trying to teach sarcasm to an AI. Soon enough, he reached a large patch of fruitful foliage and wasted no time admiring the beauty and strength of a plant that could exist in such an environment. Trekking through the snow was tiresome, and he wanted to return to his ship as soon as possible.

He had filled two tubs with berries and roots when a red WARNING sign started flashing on the top of his HUD.

"Pursuers inbound. ETA: 5 minutes, 14 seconds. Your location is known to them. Please advise course of action."

"Shit, Dark!" Ark rushed to get his supplies back in his cart. "Why didn't you give me a warning before they were on top of us?!"

"They must have been using cloaking devices I am not familiar with. It is possible they followed right behind us the whole time. Please advise course of action."

"Get the ship ready for takeoff, I'll run back as fast as I-"

He cut himself off when he spotted the Intergalactic Law Enforcement ships a few thousand feet above him, making their descent. There was no way he had enough time to make it back before they touched down.

Shit, now what am I going to do... He gripped his pistol tightly, thinking hard about his next move.
