Realistic or Modern Soulmates [Characters]

In this modern world, most things are very much like our own. Technology is booming, people work hard every day, schooling is popular, and dating is not easy for everyone. But there is one big difference in this universe. Everyone has a predestined soulmate just waiting to be found. When a person goes through puberty, their skin starts to darken into a dark, rich black that fades around the edges. The placement is very important because it signifies where your soulmate will touch you in your first meeting. Most people have it on their fingertips are palms- perhaps a handshake- but some have markings on their faces, shoulders, really anywhere. Once they touch the markings, the color shifts- some into beautiful shades of vivid purples or reds and sometimes the mark simply fades into a neutral tone. It is up to the two individuals to make the relationship work despite being almost perfect strangers. Sometimes, it is impossible to stay with your soulmate. Sometimes, your soulmate dies before you ever get to meet them. In those cases, the black returns almost darker and larger with thick cracks of the color you should have had. Do not give up hope- it is still entirely possible to find another mate destined for your love. You simply have to believe.

But not all believe. And many destroyed by heartbreak and loss. And one will stop at nothing to share his misery.

The Fighter​

Name; Neil Ty Criswell
Age; Nineteen
Gender; Male
Sexuality; Bisexual -preference towards females
Occupation; Neil works on the bad side of town at a gym. He does boxing classes for adults during the day and if he has time, he will help out the children who come for sports. At night... He does street fighting.
Soulmate Marking; His Black marks covering the back of his left hand. It makes him think that one day he will hit is soulmate- and it causes him great discomfort. The color will turn a gentle shade of green.
Appearance; Neil has a solid build with thick muscles from head to toe. His sun-kissed skin is stretched across high cheekbones and sharp jawline. His dusky pink lips are slightly off with a thin upper lip and slightly plumper. His nose was once long and straight but now is slightly crooked from being broken. His hair is cropped short and spikes up in all directions. The color is a dark, honey blonde color with darker tones throughout. His chin always has stubble scattered across his chin. His eyes are wide-set and deep, cornflower blue in color. His shoulders are broad and his chest is wide before tapering off to a narrow waist. He is on the taller side, reaching 6'2'' in height. He is covered in scars- from his back to his knuckles. The worst ones being the jagged one on his back from a knife wound and the scars on his knuckles.
Personality; Neil is a goofball to say the least. He loves to laugh but loves to make others laugh even more. He is the type of person who goes out of his way to make others feel at ease. He isn't good at deciphering emotions- honestly, it confused him- especially his own. He is a child at heart and has a hard time being serious at the time. But he certainly can flip the switch if he has too. He can compromise with ease and really cares about others more than himself. But sometimes- things aren't all sunshine and rainbows. There are some dark parts in Neil's personality that make it hard for him to truly get close to anyone. When pushed, his temper is all-consuming and hot like a raging fire. He loses himself completely and it takes a lot for him to be pulled back.
History; Neil grew up in a less than happy home. His father was an abusive man to both him and his mother when he was too young to defend himself. That is what started his mission to never be on the receiving end of that pain. He and his mother moved away from the abuse and things began looking up. She taught him about love and laughter- she is the ray of light in his life. But they have always been very poor. With his mother constantly working to provide, her health declined quite a bit. Now, she cannot work at all and is getting frailer every day. To support both of them- he works at the gym as an instructor. But with the debt that has grown, it isn't enough. So he started street fighting just for some extra funds. Now, he is afraid he may be addicted to the pain... and winning.

Name; Nedda Naftel

Occupation; works full time at a cafe, doing both serving and making of the pastries (switches out now and then due to her request to do both)

Soulmate Marking; Her black marks are on both her cheeks, in a way where it looked like someone was pinching her cheek. It turns into a pale pink colour.

Appearance; Nedda looks young enough that people mistake her for 16, therefore never really treated properly as an adult. She has short brown hair with bangs, her hair always looks slightly messy and puffy. She is rather short, 5'1", which doesnt help with her appearing like 16. Her eyes are brown as well as she came from an Asian heritage. She is fair skinned which leans more towards a yellow-ey fair skin than red/pinkish fair skinned people. She has big eyes but has to wear contacts or glasses as her eyesight is horrible. Body wise, she is skinny, small chest but wide hips.

Personality; Bright and cheerful, Nedda loves talking to people and finding out how they spent their day and make it a point to always try to make it better. She is rather naive when it comes to a lot of things as when she was younger, she was forbidden from going out of the house unless it was for school or after she seeks permission which usually ends up with no. Her personality became that way due to influence on storybooks and tv shows where they show the main character doing all sorts of good deeds and end up being happy and that was all Nedda wanted in life, to be happy and to have fun with no fuss coming from anyone else. Due to that, Nedda can get clueless about a lot of things going on and the world is still a happy, beautiful place for her. She likes to believe the best in others despite how many times people had cheated on her, scammed her for money or said unpleasant things to her. Nedda constantly has her head up in the clouds as she gets distracted rather easily but when it comes to her work, she pays 100% attention and energy on it.

Name: Ryouta Higashi
Age: 28

Sexuality: Closeted pansexual (preference toward men)
Occupation: Hairdresser
Soulmate Marking: A palm mark on his left cheek where his hand is covering in the picture. He suspects that his soulmate might be potientially abusive, but lacks the senses to care. The marking will turn a reddish pink, as if he newly got hit.
Appearance: Half British-Japanese. Ryouta has neck length black locks along with a small amount of facial hair and hazel eyes. He's 5'11, skinny and doesn't spend too much time exercising aside from walking 2 miles to and from his job nearly everyday. Always wearing the most opaque glasses he can find to cover his under eye circles. His wardrobe consists of button ups, hawaiian T-shirts and similarly dad-like clothes. Doesn't seem to care much about fashion when he's not at work or at an event, as long as he's just wearing something, even if it causes the fashion police to intervene.

Name: Laura Aillen

Soulmate marking: a large black spot on her neck that she try's to cover with makeup, but no luck. She suspects that someone would either kiss her on the neck, put their hand on it, or try to strangle her in an abusive way. Her mark will turn a bright purple

Appearances: has long dark brunette hair to the waist, and is 5' 10". She has emerald green eyes and a bit of a police dog scratch that runs down her temple to her right cheek. You would almost never shed her without either her guitar or her dog, angel. She wears makeup only to cover any minor scars and bruises, any major stuff you can see on her. Her wardrobe consists of black, red's, and purples, her favorite colors. When it comes to fashion at either school or her pd, she always pays attention to it.

Personality: (wip, will wait till deadline or time of start.)

History: coming from a family that abuses her a little, Laura isn't an ordinary student, she's one that works for the police team. She was orphaned at such a young age that instead of taking her to an orphanage, her foster father, Jonathan Roberts, decided to take her in and take her as his child. At the age of 13, her father decided to train her to be an officer like him. For her fourteenth birthday, Johnathan decided to give her a German Shepard puppy as her search dog and pet.

Likes: her tesla, guitar music (hence the guitar she carries),her co-officer worker, science, math, coding, apples, tarantulas

Dislikes:smoking, cold weather, blood, drugs, being very social

Fears:robbers cornering her, the dark, her family coming back to haunt her

Name: Katherine "Kitty" Turner
Age: 22

Occupation: Kitty works as a florist in a small roof-top greenhouse, though the storefront is street-level and overflowing with plants.

Soulmate Marking: Her marking is on her nose, the faded edges spreading across her cheeks like a mask. Her friends always used to joke that her soulmate was actually a flower since she spent so much time smelling them. After contact it will turn sunshine yellow.

Appearance: Kitty is average height - about 5'4" - and mixed race. Her father is Caucasian and her mother is Colombian. Usually she has her untamable cocoa locks tied back in a loose bun but let's thm have their fun while she isn't working.

Personality: She's a bit of an airhead but also a total sweetheart - the sort of girl who would go for a walk in the rain just to feel the sky and then instantly regret it when she's sopping wet and cold, but laugh about the whole thing and probably do it again. On the inside though she's wary about forming relationships and instead surrounds herself with plants and her cat. Kitty is also clumsy and usually has tousled hair and a smudge of dirt on her cheek.

History (WIP): She had actually been in a relationship before, but he ended up finding his soulmate and left her behind without hardly another word. She's sort of scarred by that and nervous about getting into relationships with those who still have the opportunity to discover their fated mate, leading to her finding comfort in being on her own.

Likes: Plants, cats, plants again, rain, tea, blankets, going for walks, spring, fresh produce, being alone.

Dislikes: Fire, politics, large crowds, fireworks.

Fears: Being abandoned, fire, clowns, suspicious men.

Dreams: To find her own soulmate and own her own flower shop.

Occupation: Lilith is a part time librarian as well as a student. She's trying to earn money for her yearly college tuition by doing something she loves, organising books. She also loves reading them but organising is the second best thing.

Soulmate Marking: She has mark on the bottom of her left foot. She's worried that she'll meet her soulmate by stepping on them. The mark turns baby blue.

Appearance: With long,
light auburn locks, elfish features and a close to hourglass figure, Lilith is sure to draw everyone's eyes where she goes but to prevent that, she covers herself up from head to toe. Her caramel eyes are hidden behind her glasses at all times and all of her 5'6'' body is covered in modest clothing to keep her out of the spotlight.

Personality: Lilith was diagnosed with bipolar disorder some time ago and that explains why she's so moody all the time. Her mood swings aside, she's a sweet girl with a heart of gold. Being an introvert, she doesn't have a big circle of friends or people she knows but she cares a lot for the people she does know. She hates when she hurts them with her mood swings and that's why she's trying to get them under control through medication and therapy. She can come off as rude when you first meet her but once you get to know her, she can win your heart with her lovely personality.

History: She's the child of a single mother, a mother who's probably not a good influence on her child. Lilith's mother belonged to an Orthodox Christian family but out of rebellion, she started worshiping the pagan gods, which led to her being kicked out of the family. She moved in with her boyfriend who knocked her up and then disappeared as soon as his soulmate arrived. As for Lilith's mother, her soulmate died without ever coming in her life, leaving a black mark on her lips. She brought up Lilith by doing odd jobs but her wild personality never left her even after facing so many hardships. She found one more way of pissing off her family when Lilith was born. She named her child after the mother of demons and seducer of men. She never realised how much hardship Lilith would have to face with this name. She was bullied throughout school for this, leading her to hide her body and retreat into a corner as an introvert. She could've changed her name but seeing that her mother's sentiments would be deeply hurt, she decided to be stuck with it for life. Her mother was her only family and she was ready to face suffering if it meant her mother would be happy. It's weird but it's family, that was what she repeated everytime she felt fed up. Her bipolar disorder didn't make anything better. Whenever she had a manic episode, her mother's wildness would start to show signs in her. Thank god for her medicines, that was under control now.
