Something New, Something Old

"After our days, in the fall of man
One day this will heal again
Beasts crawl forth over desert clay
And Mankind will be nature's prey
Ruined towns break forth in vines
Trees, leaves, fleet combine
Humankind will have lost its sway
The world again will be theirs one day
Skeletons of rust reach for the sky
Ruined empires of days gone by
Dreams of lies buried in the sand
The end of days will have been long planned
Children's children have passed away
Their auspicious lives lost in the fray
Carrion birds are all at play
The world again will be theirs one day
Nomadic tribes are the last of man
Pull their caravans across the sand
Gypsy wives hold their children tight
As the new superpower howls through the night
Gods watch from above and wonder what went wrong
The entropy of what once was strong
The survivors of man stay up late to pray
That the world will again be theirs one day"
Hey all,
This will be an open world game using the system of Numenera, I currently don't have any set plot or story, so I can't present much information in that department. However since this will be the first time of many(including my self) playing, we will just form an awesome story from our actions and see what happens.
I already do have about a dozen plot hooks and a few dozen npcs dancing around my head at the moment, so there will be a lot of things to try and do. I might try some of the pre-generated adventures from some of the books that are created as mini adventures.
I'm taking anyone willing to learn, but it would greatly help if you get one of the books.
The corebook is 20 dollars but not really needed in my opinion.
The player's starter handguide is 8 dollars and will teach you everything you need to know. If possible please buy that
- At character creation it says the GM will select your Cyphers, I will most likely roll for them or have you roll for them, to make them completely random. That way even I won't know what they are.
- Due to the fact that this is a Forum Game, and that means people can split off and not often be with others. When a GM Intrusion happens and you have to give a point of XP to someone else, you can select anyone else in the game.
- You are allowed to take the Mutant Descriptor.
- At character creation it says the GM will select your Cyphers, I will most likely roll for them or have you roll for them, to make them completely random. That way even I won't know what they are.
Character Creation will be the standard Tier 1 as explained in the books.
Description: (Directly taken from the store)
THERE HAVE BEEN EIGHT PREVIOUS WORLDS.
Each world stretched across vast millennia of time. Each played host to a race whose civilizations rose to supremacy but eventually died or scattered, disappeared or transcended. During the time each world flourished, those that ruled it spoke to the stars, reengineered their physical bodies, and mastered form and essence, all in their own unique ways.
Each left behind remnants.
The people of the new world—the Ninth World—sometimes call these remnants magic, and who are we to say they’re wrong? But most give a unique name to the legacies of the nigh-unimaginable past. They call them...
NUMENERA
Set in a far, far distant future, the NumeneraTM RPG puts a new spin on traditional fantasy, creating something unique to reinvigorate the imagination of gamers everywhere. Player characters explore a world of mystery and danger to find leftover artifacts of the past: bits of nanotechnology, the datasphere threaded among still-orbiting satellites, bio-engineered creatures, and myriad strange and wondrous devices that defy understanding.Numenera is about discovering the wonders of the worlds that came before, not for their own sake, but as the means to improve the present and build a future.
With streamlined, intuitive rules, Numenera allows players to create characters in minutes and puts the emphasis back on story rather than laborious mechanics. Numenera is the latest creation of one of the biggest names in roleplaying games, award-winning designer and fan-favorite Monte Cook.
I will be accepting 12 players. Before you think me crazy(you'd be right though). Allow me to explain. I have run successful large games in the past with more people, but I've run one large game that was extremely popular but ended up being a Failure. That was The End is NIgh and it had 20+ players.
I know some players are still upset about that, but theres a huge difference between Numenera, and Exalted and heck even the successful large DnD Games I've had. Numenera has an extremely simple system that doesn't get bogged down in combat and take days to resolve a scene, it takes minutes to make an amazing character compared to other systems.
Groups can occur, but no longer then 5-6 people, I suspect players will also have solo adventures, etc. The world is very very large and there is a lot of stuff to do, so I feel extremely confident in my ability to run this game for 12 people as long as extremely large groups aren't always happening. We might have special rare occasions where more then 6 people can get together.
If you think the starting number is too large, then think about it this way. Someone will always leave, because of IRL or some other issue, so I suspect the number will shrink a bit and stabilize at a nice lower number. If people don't leave, then more fun for all!
Post below if you are interested!
I'm also tagging the people who showed an interest, when I made an interest check.
