Patria

Patria was officially founded 10 years after the Great Fall by Premier Yolanda Patria. It has a population of exactly 20,000,000 and spans what was formally known as the "Midwest of the United States of America."

There are 12 cities that span Patria, including the capital of Semper. Travel from city to city includes supersonic trains (both above and underground), buses, and personal vehicles. All of patria is enveloped by what citizens call "The Dome."

Foundation Day: August 8, 2028

The Great Fall

The Great Fall occurred on September 20, 2018 and ended on August 1, 2018. It's considered the worst event in human history because of how quickly the human population declined. Many scientists have concluded that the event started out of pure greed and ignorance. After the war ended, the world became a wasteland and everything people once took for granted were near nonexistent. Radiation and death were the only words that described Earth.

The Dome

The Dome means exactly what it's assumed to be. Patria is surrounded by solar-panel screens that portray what the outside world should look like. It will go from day to night in the traditional 24 hours. It will even rain and snow according to the seasons. Think Wall-E but more advanced.

Education

People generally go to school from ages 4-16 and it's split into Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, and Quaternary education levels, each with three years in them.

The first three levels are dedicated to general education and testing that determines what direction each child will be going in the future. Once they enter the Quaternary level, children will begin advanced schooling and learn basic knowledge for the field they've been assigned to go into. In order to graduate, these children must pass the exam that relates to their future field. If they fail, they're taken to the Convert Center for "rehabilitation" before they're allowed to return and take the exam once more.

After passing, students become scholars and enter the program they were assigned. Then they study for approximately four-five years, graduate, and begin their careers as complying citizens. Some programs offer or require additional schooling, such as medical and scientific fields.

Convert Center

People who require "rehabilitation" go to the convert center from days to months at a time. No one really knows what goes on except officials and those that work there. It's a place that involves prodding of the brain and body and would be considered traumatizing. People that enter there for rehab have the painful memories erased and "positive" ones are inputed before leaving.

Anytime a person makes a noticeable mistake, they are sent to the Convert Center and receive a ping (which is a noticeable mark in one's record that anyone with the authority can access; like a criminal record).

You can have up to five pings from the rehabilitation center before being sent to The Factory.

The Factory

The Factory is a place where those scheduled to "expire" or have five pings are sent. Occasionally, people who make grave mistakes are sent here. More often than not, people who go missing have been sent here. No one really questions what the purpose of The Factory is. Some think it's an extension to the Convert Center, while others have hidden conspiracy theories.

It's considered taboo to really talk about it. However, when people do mention it it's usually referred to as "The Road."

Family Life

Families consist of exactly four members: the mother, father, and two children. Parents have the option of relinquishing their children upon their birth if they don't want him or her (some do this when they want a specific gender or they genuinely want to help with the advancement of research). Children born with "problems" are automatically taken away.

Parents are required to have both children before the ages of 30.

Government

The head of Patria is the Premier, but there is a governing body of 12 City State representatives. The Premier is usually elected among the 12 representatives.

Next are three scientists that play critical roles in the government. Everyone understands the importance of their jobs because they're the ones that help regulate the Dome and research. A lot of Patria's policies originate from the three head scientists and move onto the governing body for further discussion.

Bluehats are what we'd call the police force. They're often found marching around the city in their blue uniforms or guarding an important place. They play both defensive and offensive roles.

The Matching

The Matching (sometime called The Lottery by the older generations) is an important event that many people look forward to. It occurs every five years and includes men and women of ages 20 to 25. People find out whom their lifetime partner is during this event. The system has made sure that their qualities and traits complement each other very well so most couples live in harmony for the rest of their lives.

On the day of the matching, there are technological booths set up throughout each city. A person will enter the booth, close the door, and the system will automatically scan their face and ask for identification (fingerprint and photo id). After that, the large screen will show the face, name, age, occupation, and city of residence of the person (in this case, it will be Semper). The system will then give the person a time, date, and location for their first meeting.

It is required by the system that couples marry and have two children before age 30.

Religion

There is no religion in Patria, considering what happened during humanities downfall. Instead, the people rely heavily on science and consider it an ancient art. People assigned to the science fields are usually held in high regards and generally place a bit higher than Bluehats.

Transportation

Transportation is usually by supersonic trains (both above and underground), buses, bicycles, hover boards, etc. Only people in the science fields up to the Premier may have a personal vehicle such as a car.

The Wastelands

The Wastelands is the world outside of the Dome. The people are told about it's barrenness throughout all their life and how leaving Patria would be death itself. Because of this, no on thinks of leaving Patria. The only people really allowed to leave are the Premier, the 12 City State representatives, and anyone they decided to take with them. However, only a select few actually know these people are allowed to leave.

Employment

Jobs generally have social ranks. The closer a job is to science means the better the treatment a person receives.

Examples of jobs include teachers/professors, doctors, researchers, artists, farmers, Bluehats, entertainment, etc. Please note that the further away a career is from the the science field, the "worth" it's given is less. Do remember that this is more of a cultural phenomenon that people find normal.

Q's

Considerably old technology although significant improvements have been made throughout the decades. Instead of the unnecessary hassle that comes with paper ID's and everything else, it's all on a crisp, clean smartwatch. They can access information relative to them and even use their smart watch as a form of communication.

Everything on the screen can be viewed in a projector-style by the press of sensor on the side of the watch.

They must be worn at all times while outside of one's home.
