Idea serf/slave roleplay

I was thinking of this for some time. It goes like this. the serfs of certain kingdom rebel. The dues to their lords are to much for them to handle and starvation is just around the corner. After the rebellion is put down the survivors are being executed on a daily basis.
Emissaries from the neighboring elven empire arrive to collect the yearly tribute. The emissaries demand the surviving rebels to be handed over. They need new slaves and this would be considered a valid payment.
And so the terrified survivors are escorted to their new home. Their life as serfs was horrible and have no idea what awaits them now.

In this case the only goal is adapt to the new situation and survive.You just escaped a painful death. As long as your new masters don't work you to death or starve you to death things will work out.
