The Sad Reality
A Note to All Applicants
It is expected that you have read and agree to the Rules section of this roleplay located in the Rules tab. This is a
requirement
to join! In addition to that, I do have three very specific pet peeves with characters and generally if you hit one of these nerves, I'm going to react negatively. They are as follows:
#1. Importing and/or reusing characters from a different Naruto fandom. I hate this, and not just for my fandom. I hate it for any fandom. I understand that roleplayers have their own perspectives and desire to express their creativity, and sometimes there are trends in that expression, but I have another fundamental belief I will boldly proclaim. The creators of fandoms and alternate universe roleplays often have created them with a specific tone and atmosphere in mind that is a mesh of their own creative perspective and the original content. This is not just me; this is universal. If a roleplayer cannot or simply will not look at the content the creator of a roleplay has created that edits, adds or even subjects from a preexisting universe, then I feel like they are not doing justice to the fandom. A character should be created for the roleplay it is applied for, not imported from another with minor editions.
#1 Addendum Due to ongoing experiences with this one
Furthermore, there have been a few reoccurring inconsistencies with characters that I would like to list to anyone looking to make a character. These have happened a few times, so I'm hoping to save some time in reviews by pointing them out now:
Every now and then, someone comes at me with a question or idea that irks me to the very core. There are various reasons, some personal, some because they ignored this Note and others because they just didn't understand the world - Naruto or my fandom. Now, without giving away any names in particular, I'm going to share some excerpts of what not to do and why.
―Why it wouldn't work: First, the Uchiha Clan is dead. It's noted in the Settings/Locations tab. Secondly, the use of the phrase "deadliest sharingan's known to man" is a red flag for any GM. Later, this same individual created a character sheet for the character anyway, despite me telling him not to, and noted him as the ten year old son of Sasuke Uchiha - a man that died over a century ago. It was obvious that this individual didn't pay any attention to the Setting or Lore, and even ignored what I told them in a PM with me.
This one is a direct quote, and immediately made me dislike the individual proposing the idea. I'm human, I can't help it, and needless to say this individual didn't make it into the RP.
Another direct quote, and one that came from a roleplayer with a character that already had unneeded ties to a Clan. Admittedly, this mostly irked me because the individual continuously argued this point, which is false. This one comes with an underlying message: if I decline something once, arguing over it won't help your cause.
This is another direct quote, word-for-word. No. Just no. Don't even try. While this one didn't enrage me like the Uchiha issue, it did immediately hammer on a nerve and made me feel like the person asking it had a significant level of audacity. The underlying message here: sometimes asking a question can do more harm than good.
―Now, for this next one, I don't have a quote - I have since deleted the characters. However, let me explain to you what they did. On a Genin-level character, they wanted Konan's paper jutsu. Simple enough, in fact, I might have allowed that in some form. However, this individual completely copied their character from another roleplay and quickly copied the content from a Narutopedia page without even editing out Konan's name. If you're that lazy, don't join. Plain and simple.
―And, the final one here, someone attempted to slip in a Rinha Clan Character (movie Clan anyway, so not canon) in addition to giving them another Kekkei Genkai in Swift Release all while being a Genin. There were a few other complications with this character, but in short, if you're just tossing things together in a character, don't join. That might work elsewhere. It won't work here.
Note: As long as all of the information presented here is on a character sheet, I do not mind if you edit them. The Simple and Advanced Character Sheet Templates are both applicable. It is 100% the choice of the roleplayer which sheet is used. A few notes on the Advanced Sheet: The Primary Style is essentially the focus of a Shinobi in terms of Classification. Check the classifications list found in the Jutsu Template Section for more information. The Miscellaneous section is designed for Likes, Dislikes, Advantages, Disadvantages and even a theme song if preferred. Anything in the Miscellaneous section is purely optional. In fact, the entire tab can be deleted if desired.
Note: As with a regular character sheet, you may edit a Custom Jutsu Template. The editions must have the same information. And, much like the unique traits of a character, if you don't list something a jutsu does here, it is at my discretion if I allow it to do something you try to use it for while roleplaying.

#1 Addendum
(and my increasing frustration with it)
, this is getting an addendum. If you are importing a character, expect to make changes, expect that character to quite possibly not be the same fundamental character you began with and expect absolutely no remorse from me about it. If you are sincerely trying to alter a character to fit them in, fine. If you disagree with a change I made, understand that this is my world and it is inherently different in some ways than even regular Naruto. If you can prove me wrong, do it, but don't argue with me unless you intend on proving me wrong. I swear to the roleplay Gods, this is becoming the single biggest problem for me as a GM and it's going beyond the level of a pet peeve. This is a different time frame, a different setting, a different atmosphere with even more history; almost no character is going to grow up exactly the same, and if they didn't grow up the same, changes will trickle down. If you don't like these changes, just make a new character. I get it: some people like to reuse characters for the sense of familiarity. I understand this. However, I feel that level of attachment disrupts the process of integrating them into this different world and I believe starting with a clean slate makes for the best integration. In short, importing an old character decreases your chances of approval to my estimate of 95%.
#2. Only applying for a specific spot, ie Jounin, and/or refusing low-ranking positions. I shouldn't even have to explain this. While I can understand some people only enjoy certain positions and sincerely only wish to do them in a universe - and in fact do them well - I find it terribly insulting for them to walk into a universe that has had immense effort poured into it to make it unique, especially in fandoms where tremendous effort is required to differentiate it from its source material, and state they only wish to partake in the roleplay under certain circumstances. Literally, any time I see this, my first thought is "What the Hell, I created all of this and you can't find an ounce of inspiration to create a character you would enjoy as a Genin?" While I do kind'a understand where it comes from, it is still my pet peeve and my bias. I'm human, and I simply dislike it. The chances of getting by with it are incredibly slim.
#2 Addendum
The Uchiha Clan is dead. Stop trying. This isn't the exact same as the #2 pet peeve, but it irks me in the same way. Stop it. Just stop.
#3. Getting irritated, upset or refusing a review/critique. The first two pet peeves are somewhat my bias, and will likely result me in simply telling you that this might not be the roleplay for you; that, in turn, is my polite way of saying, "based on your attitude and behavior, I don't want you in my roleplay" - keep note of that just in case you hear it later. This pet peeve, however, is one that can upset me individually, and here's why. I have seen roleplayers with really great ideas and personalities create a character that seems incredibly interesting but only has minor flaws. Literally, trivial flaws that would take no more than ten minutes to edit out. Yet, if they're brought up in a critique, these roleplayers might have an insecurity or simply inability to edit these things because they feel their character was inadequate or they didn't do good enough. Some of these roleplayers I can even later offer to simply let them slide, but they feel that they just can't go on. I have turned down plenty of people in plenty of roleplays for plenty of reasons, but nothing pains me more than to see a roleplayer I was genuinely looking forward to roleplaying with simply not because they couldn't bare a critique. If you are that type of person and you are reading this, be forewarned that every single person and every single character sheet gets a review and has likely been edited. It is not a sign of inadequacy or incapability. And, to that person with just too much pride in themselves or their character, step down off that high horse and realize that if you refuse to make those changes, you are literally costing yourself the opportunity to join in a creative endeavor with others and also costing them your talent. And, finally, to those that just absolutely refuse critique - you best hope it's perfect by my standards the first time because chances are no one is getting in with the first revision of their sheet.
#3 Addendum
Another issue I happen to see, generally with reviews, happens in the form of characters that want to be part of Clans. Put simply, if I can remove the last name of your character and their Kekkei Genkai and/or Hiden, they probably around thematic enough to be in that Clan. Clans are more than just abilities and bloodlines; they are subcultures with traditions and genetic similarities. I expected to see that, and if I don't, chances are you won't be getting into a Clan. While this primarily applies to canon-Clans, it could easily apply to player-made clans, too. While I believe that a custom made Clan should be open to anyone, I will most definitely let the original creator of the Custom Clan decide of a character is
close enough
to their image of a clan member to slide in. Again, this doesn't have to be 100%, but I swear to the Roleplay Gods if anyone ever presents me a blond Hyūga, I will rage and possibly auto-deny.
#3 Addendum
If you make a Genin, understand that most academy-level shinobi are relatively cookie-cutter. You should attempt to stand out with your motivation, personality, interaction, and maybe your specific strengths. If you took the standard fresh-Academy Genin and put them into any combat situation, they would likely be throwing kunai or attempting to dive in with taijutsu. Almost every single Genin will start this way - with exceptions. Oh my dear RP Lords, if I ever hear the complaint 'my character's fighting style seems so weak/bland/pointless' from a Genin with no clear specialization or a future specialization in mind that requires time and training, then you will immediately step on a nerve and get no remorse from me. I want you to interaction and learn and develop as Genin, and part of that might just be starting out like everyone else. There are exceptions, especially for Clans, but if you read the other Pet Peeves, Clans have their own sets of guidelines. So, please, ground your character and their identity in their personality, history and motivation more than their techniques and fighting style.

Furthermore, there have been a few reoccurring inconsistencies with characters that I would like to list to anyone looking to make a character. These have happened a few times, so I'm hoping to save some time in reviews by pointing them out now:
#1 For Genin: The average age of graduation is twelve. Genin have three requirements by Canon: 1) to love the village and hope to preserve peace and prosperity 2) have a mind that will not yield and endure the hard work 3) to be healthy in mind and body. These are things to remember. Genin normally enter the academy around age five, spend seven years in the academy and graduate at twelve. This is to hone their skills, mature their bodies, allow for psychological development and of course condition them as Shinobi. I am seriously attempting to stick to this guideline for all Genin, at least within Konohagakure for now, so do try to implement it.
#2 It has been thirty-three years since the death of Minato Sarutobi and twenty-three years since the end of the Purge, aka the end of the Fifth Great Shinobi War. I have seen characters claim to have parents from the Fifth Great Shinobi War, however, that would make them significantly older than most parents. I have seen characters that claimed to have been born during the War - impossible; they wouldn't be the proper age. Just try to keep this timeline in mind for consistency.
#3 The Fourth Great Shinobi War ended nearly one-hundred and fifty years ago. While this specific timeline is kept somewhat flexible, that's still essentially six generations. It is also when the roleplay diverged from canon entirely. Since then, a lot has changed and just like the last point, this reminder is really to keep general timeline straight for the RP and characters.
#4 For Genin: Compare your Genin to approved Genin, not canon Genin. I cannot emphasize this enough. This roleplay will not have over-the-top Genin that border Chuunin. Tone characters back, tone them down and focus more on making them unique through other venues than their jutsu and abilities. They are still developing and are more than likely getting their first true sensei, whom will help sculpt them for the rest of their lives. Do not set yourself in stone, do not plot too far ahead with your character and above all keep your character consistent with what has been approved.

"I was thinking about making my character a cursed Uchiha. Making him have the deadliest sharingan's known to man, but not able to use it, because if he uses it he'll get murdered."
This one is a direct quote, and immediately made me dislike the individual proposing the idea. I'm human, I can't help it, and needless to say this individual didn't make it into the RP.
Why it wouldn't work: For context, this was on a twelve-year-old Genin. This individual attempted to and in fact repeatedly told me that higher chakra control would result in a physically faster and stronger character. This is false - for the most part. While there are techniques such as Chakra Enhanced Strength, this individual was referring to a passive increase in speed. That is not what chakra control does. Chakra control can allow for greater control over certain jutsu, decreases chakra consumption for jutsu and can decrease the number of handseals needed to be made. It will not magically make a character stronger."with the higher chakra control it was physically making her stoner it was just increasing her speed a little"
Another direct quote, and one that came from a roleplayer with a character that already had unneeded ties to a Clan. Admittedly, this mostly irked me because the individual continuously argued this point, which is false. This one comes with an underlying message: if I decline something once, arguing over it won't help your cause.
―Why it wouldn't work: Alright, now this one is iffy. In theory, maybe you could do this. In practice, I'm 99.99% sure I'm not going to allow it. Additionally, some of those techniques are highly-trained skills, such as Dust Release. Others come naturally as an affinity. If a character could use the Kekkei Genkai (and Kekkei Tōta), chances are they'd be skilled enough to be good with them. There would be no real balancing, and inexperience would be moot considering they would have to be educated. I feel like this question wasn't well thought-out and the individual just wanted a bunch of unique releases. This isn't going to work because I'm not going to allow it.For instance, just to get this out of the way, would you tolerate a character having Scorch Release, Magnet Release, Lava Release, and Dust Release if given proper balancing and everything to a minute detail- for instance making the character extremely inexperienced and weak with it all- as well as full detail as to how they'd possibly have all four of those...?
This is another direct quote, word-for-word. No. Just no. Don't even try. While this one didn't enrage me like the Uchiha issue, it did immediately hammer on a nerve and made me feel like the person asking it had a significant level of audacity. History Enter at least three paragraphs regarding your character history. This is is the single most important entry as it has the most potential to impress me. Suggestions: tie into your character personality, reference important character relations and focus on internal motivation.
Relationships While one might this is optional, it does serve a purpose. A genin must list their sensei and squad members here, although this is not an immediate requirement. This is also important for family relationships, siblings, etc., and is another possible way to impress me. Additionally, if a character has summons, they will be listed as a relationship and as a jutsu.
Appearance & Equipment Yes, I know you can use a reference picture. However, reference pictures aren't perfect. List the eye color, hair color, height and weight of a character here. Additionally, list all of the equipment they may carry and where it is on their respective person. See how it ties into appearance? Good. Equipment has to go somewhere; tell me where and what it looks like.

Do you have gills because Kisame did and it made no sense? Put it here. If it is not listed here and it comes up in RP without permission, it won't be coming up in the RP. Also, take into consideration that most characters probably won't have a unique trait. I prefer people to 'train' for their abilities.
Jutsu List Academy-level jutsu (Clone Technique, Transformation Technique, Body Replacement Technique, Cloak of Invisibility Technique, Rope Escape Technique) are almost all learned in the Academy. Clone Technique and Transformation Technique are actually required to graduate with very few exceptions (Rock Lee, for example.) These should all be standard. For canon jutsu, simply link the jutsu from Narutopedia. Real simple. I'll give a template for custom jutsu further down, and they should be listed in an accordion or tab or, at the very least, in an organized fashion.
