Realistic or Modern Safe Haven

Derek stood in the middle of the room and looked out the window. The rain seemed calmer than it had earlier, but still it was colder at night. He was surprised that it had not started snowing yet. He looked down at the bag in his hands. He made a devil's deal, and it was coming back to bite him in the ass. He took off towards the staircase and got to the bottom level. He came through the front door, cutting his forearm on a piece of lingering glass that was sticking oddly out of the doorway. He didn't notice it earlier when he came up the stairs. He looked at the small trail of blood going down his arm

"Shit!" he hissed under his breath. It was just a long scratch. Nothing too deep.

He walked further until he reached outside. It was dark, but the streetlight seemed to hit him in the eyes. He held his hand up over his eyes, to cover the blinding light from his vision.

She nodded and lead the team and begain to search for ERTS. She took her headphones off and kept a straight face. She tried not to be worried but it was very hard not to.

Frankie told Roxie to patch Cat up. Me? She thought to herself. Crap she wasn't good with blood. But she did normally carry bandages around so that was good. She walked over to Cat and started to bandage her up. Her hands started to shake a little seeing all if the blood but she patched Cat up. Cat would be fine she just passed out for losing to much blood. Roxie cleaned her hands off they were still shaking little. Then she sighed glad she was done.

When the rain cleared up, Frankie couldn't see the group of people that had come out of the building anymore. She did a 360 search, but they were no where to be found. Coast is clear. Taking a deep breath Frankie prepared to make a run for the building when a figure caught the corner of her eye. She shifted her position to get a better view and found Derek underneath the street lamp covering him eyes. A sudden sense of relief washed over the soaking wet girl as she stupidly went out of cover and ran over to the guy not caring if she was seen.

"Derek!" She yelled as she closed the distance between the two. Her heart was racing and her limbs where shaking. When Frankie reached Derek she jumped on top of him embracing him in a tight hug. She was so happy he wasn't hurt. She was so happy nothing had happened to him. But most importantly, she was furious that he didn't listen to her. Just as quick as she had hugged the guy, she backed away and swung her hand across aiming for him face. "You f*cking idiot! I told you not to come!" Frankie took a good look at the boy noticing a trail of blood flowing down his arm. "That's what you get for not listening to me!" She lifted his arm brusquely not caring if he was in pain and began poking at the wound to see how deep it was. "Idiot" She murmured under her breath.

Letting go of his arm Frankie finally noticed they were in plain view. She had once again let her emotions put her in danger. Frankie's senses perked up and she scouted the streets noticing two red lights at the far end coming closer. "Crap ERTs." Frankie looked at Derek before bolting into the building for cover. She wasn't sure if they had seen them, but she blamed herself for having been exposed for so long. She crouched behind a flat board hiding in the darkness of the building.

Derek felt that he jerked from a trance when she had mentioned the word ERT's. He was so caught up in his own world that he forgot about them. He followed behind Frankie, hiding behind another wooden board. He knew how to get back to Safe Haven from there. The quickest route would above ground, but the safest way would be below ground. He pulled the straps of the bag around his shoulders and had it cling to him like a backpack. He grabbed Frankie's arm and pulled her away from the board and deeper into the abandoned building.

"The church is just down the road. We need to get to the top of the building and cross over to the fire escape at the end of the street. At the bottom, around the corner is the church. The outside building has a manhole in the room in the far back corner. The tunnel to Safe Haven is under there."

He looked back at streets, seeing the red lights come to a halt at the abandoned building. A spotlight was flashed into the building. Derek pulled Frankie behind a pillar with him, holding her close to him. They needed to stay out of the spot light.

"When the spot light moves, run for the top of the stairs. I'll follow behind you."

Frankie nodded as Derek gave her instructions. She admired how he knew his way so expertly. That's why this guy was their leader. He was probably the wisest and most experience of them all. Frankie began getting lost in thought remembering the first time she arrived at Safe Haven. It had been no accident. She could have sworn someone lead her there, but there wasn't anyone in sight when she was going through the tunnels. When she arrived to the place it was astonishing. She had no idea how many other there were like her. Now, she had come so far from the first time she arrived.

A sudden tug in her arm caused Frankie to loose balance, but Derek was there to stabilize her. He held her close against a pillar as light rained down against both sides. Her heart was pounding and she held her breath not wanting to make any possible sound. She tried to avoid Derek's eyes knowing the small distance between them was already awkward enough. When the light flashed else where Frankie made a run for it just as Derek had told her too. She didn't look behind to see if he had followed. That was the first rule, never look back.

Frankie reached the stair and began climbing.

@Cupcake

Derek felt unsteady. His arm started to pulsate a raidaince of mild pain. It wasn't pain that would knock him on his ass, but it was still bothersome. He started running to the stairs, feeling a sense of illness wash over him. The cut on his arm felt magnified and began a slow burn, that he only felt when his heart thumped against his chest. Derek could feel a cold sweat hit him, and felt a little green in the face. He had to push through though. He began climbing the stairs, a flight below Frankie.

"Keep going till you hit the top!" he shouted at her. His voice echoed along the stairwell, and he heard footsteps at the base of the stairs. It was two sets. It was probably the same ERT's that chased him earlier.

Frankie's legs were burning as she climbed the stairs. She had been tired out from running here to begin with, the stairs just made it worse. She was panting struggling to keep the air in her lungs. Come on Frankie, just a few more steps. You can do this. From behind she heard Derek's quivering voice telling her to keep going. She continued to climb up the stairs hoping that he would fall behind. She didn't want to even think about him getting caught.

Reaching the top of the stairs Frankie quickly scanned the rooftop for the fire escape. "There!" Frankie made a run for it, but was stopped by an ERT who was making his way up. "F*ck no. F*ck no. F*ck no!" She began to walk back keeping the ERT in her view. "Derek..." Frankie was freaking out. They were trapped. With the fire escape and the stairs as their only exits, there was no place to go. Frankie kept looking around trying to formulate a plan, but her mind was a jumbled mess. Think. Think Frankie. Think! One by one ERTs began coming out from the fire escape making dodging them nearly impossible.

Derek could feel some motion sickness with each turn of the flights of stairs. He could feel himself about to throw up, but he felt almost invincible. Something in him made him go faster. He reached the top of the stair cases, still not stopping after hearing Frankie cursing. He ran straight at Frankie and grabbed her arm, pulling her with an incredible force. He made her run along-side him to the side of the building. There was another building to the side to jump to. It was the same one he jumped earlier.

"Jump!" he yelled to Frankie as he jumped himself.

Frankie came to a skiing halt when Derek jumped off of the roof. She shook her head "...I can't." She stared down at the gab between to two buildings feeling nauseated by the height. Frankie felt the floor move under her and she took a step back. The ERTs getting closer. "I can't jump!" Frankie looked around trying to figure out another way out of this. She was terrified of heights. The more Frankie looked at the gap the more her body tensed up. She wasn't going to jump. Frankie turned around to see a team of five ERTs ganging up on her.

Letting out a sigh, Frankie build up her game and put on a tough face. "Five against one? I'm flattered!" She took off running towards the ERTs and seconds before colliding with them she dropped herself on the floor and skied in between their legs. The fall wasn't as she had expected she landed wrong on her hip and felt a jolting pain shoot down her leg. Frankie winced, but quickly stood up before making a run for the stairs once again. Her plan was cut short as more ERTs were waiting on the bottom level. Shit. Frankie went over to the fire escape, but that too was blocked. So the only way out was jumping. Seeing a clear view to the next roof top, Frankie closed her eyes and ran as if her life depended on it. The moment she reached the edge she hesitated slightly, but still made the jump.

Her distance fell short. Frankie was barely able to reach the edge. Leaning forward so she wouldn't topple backwards, Frankie fell on her knees completely worn out. She pressed her hand against the floor trying to steady herself, but she was trembling all over. Her breath was shaky and her pulse was over the top. Frankie couldn't feel her body anymore, she was just numb. It had been a while since she'd been so shaken up. Normally her runs were just to nearby neighborhoods and didn't include many meetings with the ERTs. But of course, there was only one person that was guilty of this, Adrian.

@Cupcake

After Derek had jumped, he felt the next rooftop collide with his feet and then his knees. He turned, seeing Frankie standing at the edge. He could see the fear in her eyes at the height. He watched her turn around and charge at the ERT's.

"Frankie!" he yelled for her. He stood at the rooftop, his heart thudding harder against his chest. He didn't know what he would do if Frankie had been captured. He stood for another minute, and saw her jump the building. He ran over towards her, seeing if she needed any help.

"Frankie! You okay!?" he asked, running up next to her.

~Frankie~

She felt the warmth of Derek as he approached her and ask if she was okay, but she didn't have the strength to talk. She just nodded and stoop a bit wobbly keeping her low and avoiding his eyes. Her breathing was finally under control, but she could still feel her pulse pounding. "We have to go." Her voice was weak, but there was still determination behind it. Frankie half ran, half wobbled to the nearest escape. She was tired and cranky. All she wanted was to go back to the base and make sure Cat was still alive. The entire time the thought of having left Ashley in charge and Cat passed out on a bed kept gnawing at her, but she had suppressed it not needing the additional worries.

@Cupcake

Cat moaned as she woke from her troubled slumber. Peaceful might have been her rest, yet the pain and anguish that coursed through her body during the entirety of her rest did not make it quite refreshing. Still, it was better than before, much better. As she tried to push herself up a jolt of pain reminded her about her injuries thus she decided to stay still for now.

One nice change was that all of her injuries were barely visible: someone was kind enough to tend to her wounds while she was passed out, although was it Frankie or someone else she did not know. Secretly she hoped that it was not the shocked girl who she approached as the savior of Derek as that would have meant that she wasted precious time tending to her scars rather than trying to help their leader. She tried to recall if she had told everything to her before her strength left her but could recollect only little. The sentences which made perfect sense in her head might not have had the same effect in the real world. In any case even if she was unable to transmit the crucial part of the information she still had the paper with the address at least which might have made more sense to Frankie.

" Slithide... you son of a bitch... "

Her father's " friend " was less than happy to aid the daughter of his former ally. Cunning, malevolent and greedy he stood for everything Cat hated in the world today. However it was also true that he was one of the few people who were not only able to elude the ERTs constantly and remain hidden but also had influence and contacts almost everywhere. If someone he had to know about what Adrian and his gang was up to.

Thinking back maybe it was the audacity of hers that saved her life. Slithide wanted to deem her " worthy " before he would make any bargain, but after 3 of his men fell dead on the floor he was more than happy to help her out with crumbs of information.

" I hope I was not too late though. I would never forgive myself if anything happened to either of them. "

With these dark thoughts in her mind she felt her strength leaving her again so she closed her eyes and fell into a troubled dream again.

" Everyone, hold strong... Do not dare to die... "

She had noticed a small group of ERTs coming her way. She looked over and smirked then turned to the group she was leading. "Alright guys, you know what to do." This wasn't the first time she had encountered ERTs and it won't be the last. They started to fight off the ERTs.
