[div class=tag]teens.[/div] despite a few occasions where her prognosis seemed very poor, camilla was officially declared in remission when she was 14 and returned to school shortly after. she was ahead of her peers academically due to her homeschooling, but she desperately missed socializing and being with people her own age, so she rejoined school at the grade level she would have been if she didn’t stop going to school. she still adored learning languages and began on german next. though now, she was learning at a slower pace now that she was spending more time with friends and had less free time to study on her own. she finished her schooling and graduated with honors. [div class=tag]adulthood.[/div] camilla knew she wanted to continue her education (and her parents would most definitely insist on her going to university). she wanted to experience a new culture and go somewhere she had never been, so she decided to study in the united states. there were so many universities she considered, applying to thirteen of them. her ten acceptances did not help make her choice any easier. however, she ultimately decided on iris & candor university. she can’t wait to begin a new chapter in her life and broaden her horizons. Running on paranoia and nervous energy, he always has to be doing something, whether that be coding, playing video games, or even just pacing and fidgeting. He’s usually stressing out about at least five things at any given time, but hides it under a mask of irritation and snark. This anxiety essentially rules Isaac’s life, and he has trouble forming meaningful relationships because of his fear of being hurt. He’s also an extremely private person, and will lash out at someone if they try prying too deep into his activities.

Isaac is an extremely diligent worker, and can focus on one project for days on end. Unfortunately, this can be to his detriment, as when he gets “in the zone” he often forgets to eat or sleep. This passion especially extends to his hacking work. He has a strong sense of justice, and if something sketchy is going on and he’s in a position to do something about it, he can’t stop himself.

From an early age, he was fond of computers. Starting from when he discovered 3D Space Cadet Pinball on his parent’s PC, he fell in love with the possibilities computers offered, and would spend his time tinkering around with the various software instead of playing outside like the other kids. While his parents supported their eccentric son and his interests, the other kids were less understanding. Isaac was ostracized by his classmates, and had very few friends. While the rejection from his peers was painful, Isaac pretended that it didn’t bother him, and instead focused his energy on taking his interest in computers to the next level by learning how to program.

In highschool, Isaac was one of those kids who never needed to study to pass a test, and academically speaking, he breezed through with minimal effort, yet mediocre grades. His teachers would just sigh and wonder why such a bright boy wouldn’t apply himself more. His classmates, while no longer finding entertainment in actively harassing him, were still kind of weirded out by the nervous looking boy who had a faraway look in his eyes.

What people didn’t know is that Isaac had something of a side gig. In his spare time, he had taken to hacking. It started out as just a hobby, something he did to flex his programmer muscles a bit. He never did anything malicious, he just liked poking around confidential documents. Was it wrong? Yeah, probably, but Isaac never really thought much about it, and saw it as just a fun challenge to do when he was bored. But, one day, that perception suddenly shattered.

One day on a whim, he decided to snoop on a popular vlogger who had been enjoying a massive burst in popularity lately. While searching through the guy’s DM’s he came across something disturbing. A group of relatively well known male influencers had a group chat where they were drooling over pictures sent to them by female fans. Some of which were underage. Isaac’s blood boiled. While he wasn’t so naive to think this kind of thing could never happen, seeing play out right in front of him was something else entirely. He knew he couldn’t let it slide.

Isaac spent gathering up as much evidence and personal information on these people as he could. He then put it all in a ZIP file and posted it everywhere he could get away with under the pseudonym “tartarus_inc.”. The leak soon blew up into a huge scandal. The influencers involved were publicly shamed, legal action was taken, it was a circus. And at the center of it all was the mysterious vigilante who brought these creeps to justice.

From there, Isaac continued to expose those he felt needed exposing, and had developed something of a following of people eager to see who got “busted” next. While it was a bit of an ego boost, he was mostly concerned with not being caught, as what he was doing was certainly not legal.

Upon graduation, Isaac applied for Iris & Candor University largely by his parent’s request. While he had zero belief he’d actually get in due to his grades, he sighed and figured it wouldn’t hurt. Shockingly enough, he was quickly accepted with generous financial aid.

It’d be stupid of him to say no to that, right?

In a way, it also assists her in not “losing her balance” in an argument or debate if her opponent were to say something with the purpose of catching her off guard. - Mysterious / Peculiar / Enigmatic | No one is entitled to know every aspect about her life, according to her. If Fatima would rather keep something secret than let the whole world know, then she will. At times she will even speak in riddles, which only serves to exemplify her mysteriousness and overall weirdness. She is known as the “weird” girl, often times engaging in questioning behaviors and staring at someone for no reason at all.

A strict mother and housewife, Ms. Khatri strives for her children to make it to the big leagues (whether that be becoming successful businessmen/woman, a doctor, or another career that brings just as much honor. Unlike Mr. Khatri, Raagavi prides herself in being the future mother of three intelligent children. At times, when she voices her true intentions, Raagavi is seen as a mother who cares very little about her children and instead lives through her children’s projected success. However, Madura, Fatima, and Gajab would proudly disagree with that statement. Raagavi, though she truly cares about her children prospering, is one of the most caring and attentive mothers there are. Her strictness is easily overshadowed by the constant praise and attention she gives to her children. At the moment, though Raagavi will not say it aloud, Fatima is currently her favorite (having gotten into the college that Madura could not). Such favoritism shows as well, with how Raagavi does not let a day pass by without calling and checking up on her daughter.

Father | Aabheer Khatri | FC: Sanjeev Bhaskar
Mr. Khatri could not give a single shit about what and what not his children do, as long as they are healthy and mentally sane, he will love them all the same. With the incessant grooming his wife does in order for their children to do well academically, Aabheer has taken a liking to being in the sidelines when parenting. He does get some backlash for refusing to uphold the same values that his wife does, but does he care? No.
He believes that the kids should be kids and not waste away their childhood with the laborious studying they do on a daily-basis.

Older Sister | Madura Khatri | FC: Eesha Rebba
Madura will not openly say that she is envious of her little sister, but by being the “disappointment” of the family, she wished she could switch places with Fatima. However, Madura is very intelligent and after being admitted to Duke University, she thought she would be held in high regard. Little did she know, Duke did not meet Raagavi’s expectations. Now that she is on the track to become a surgeon, Madura tries her hardest to push back the guilt she feels whenever she thinks about “what could have been.”

Younger Brother | Gajab Khatri | FC: Karan Brar
A young boy whose heart is bigger than his brain, unfortunately for his mother Raagavi. Gajab is not motivated to become something “big” in the world. Rather, he would want a more humble life with a small family and funds he could manage (instead of having to keep track of a 6-figure salary). He is also very stubborn about his dream and can withstand the attempts by his mother to change his mind about such wishes. Of course, he still looks up to his older sisters, but for him to mirror their success is unlikely.

Best Friend | Demetria Holland / @BadB!sh | FC: Cindy Kimberly
A girl who has done the impossible: befriend Fatima. Through hard work and patience, Demetria has tamed the angry squirrel and has become a person who Fatima will take a bullet for. Even though they are complete opposites of each other, with Demetria being a natural extravert (and Fatima, an introvert), their friendship was bound to crash and burn. Yet, year after year passed in high school and they still managed to stay strong through countless arguments and mishaps. Fatima still keeps in touch with Demetria, who goes to Caltech, via Instagram and text.

Childhood (0-10) ||

Fatima was prepped and groomed the instant she came into the world. Both Raagavi (her mother) and Aabheer (her father) were quick to get her a tutor as soon as she was old enough to attend school. Due to this extra help “bestowed” upon her (as her mother would remark), Fatima would excel in school, passing her classes with ease and diligence. Madura, being 12 at the times, joined the debate club at their school, and at this time was when Fatima developed her interest in debate and law. Though she did not initially understand the slew of information Madura would tell their mother and father, Fatima still remained fascinated at the new terms and information she would intake. However, Madura was only able to bring back a silver medal from a local debate competition and immediately withdrew from the club (having not been taught to lose). She then turned to the medical field and focused on thriving in that career path. Fatima, on the other hand, was determined to take over what Madura had given up on. She would engage in research, trying to find all she could know about law before diving into what could be her future. The more she found, the more she felt inclined to learn about law. Despite not understanding half of the advanced vocabulary on these websites and without the guidance of a teacher, Fatima would watch a multitude of videos (of which many showed the debate competitions that Fatima would later dominate in).

Adolescence (11-14) ||

Once Fatima was able to take part in the debate competitions, she was beyond ecstatic. Fatima did not have the ability and skill to continue on to nationals quite yet, but the basic stages used in these competitions was enough to elicit her excitement. She, like her sister, also won the silver medal in her first debate competition. Nevertheless, she continued to push on without the sickening feeling of loss shattering her pride. Instead, she was quick to pick herself back up and promise herself a trophy following her first competition. Throughout middle school, all Fatima received was bronze medals and silver medals, not once receiving a trophy for her accomplishments. There was always someone better, someone more composed than her who would leave her speechless during the competition. Every loss was a punch to her ego, and yet like a drug for her perseverance. She still passed her classes with honors and straight A’s, but having not shown the same results for debate club, she felt slightly defeated.

Teenage Years / Present (15-18) ||

In high school, was when she finally saw the countless hours of studying and learning bear the fruit of triumph. During these next four years, Fatima would win competition after competition and soon the difficult she experienced in her adolescent years was nonexistent. The “magic” of debate competition did not fully dissipate but the power it had to excite Fatima weakened after every trophy.
Fatima was clear to her fellow classmates that looking for friends was not a priority of hers, thence why focusing on winning her competition meant sacrificing any social skills she could have developed. She did not willingly engage in conversation with people, and when she would express a desire to, she would fail in connecting with her peers. Demetria was one of the few people who endured Fatima’s defensive tactics and refused to go away when commanded to. Soon enough, Fatima fell victim to Demetria’s charismatic personality and the two ended up becoming a somewhat well-known duo at the school.
Madura, when learning about who admitted her and who did not, was saddened to know that ICU rejected her admission to the college. Albeit getting into Duke and even some ivy schools, Madura’s future plans at ICU was thwarted by their dissatisfaction with her resume. ICU was not exactly Fatima’s dream school and she did not make an effort to apply to the college until her mother’s endless obstinacy forced Fatima to complete an application.
She did not try at all on her application, in fact, she was sure that her application had typos and grammatical errors that practically radiated with her carelessness. Still, ICU seemed to have overlooked over typo within her application since they proudly sent her back an acceptance letter. Raagavi was on the verge of fainting after opening the letter and Madura, who was in her senior year of college was both surprised and disheartened at how her sister (yet again) did what she could not. Fatima did not have a choice in the matter and her mother insisted on watching her accept the offer on her laptop. Fatima did not even research anything about the school and was very ignorant of their values, classes, etc. Much to her satisfaction, she realized they had a strong law school within the college, which in return, improved the image of the college in her eyes. Perhaps this would not be as bad as Fatima had originally thought, or was Fatima getting herself into something much more complicated than the study of law?

orey, without his money to dress him up, is somewhat plain: he doesn't have many distinguishing features, other than being somewhat attractive and well-dressed. his hair is medium-brown and often cut artfully short and professional. he has hazel eyes that are mostly green, with some brown closer towards his pupils. he is farsighted and wears either glasses (his usual choice to prevent headaches) or contact lenses (more formal events or when he knows his picture is going to be taken) to correct his vision.

although he is about as white as they come, orey manages a healthy tan all year long—frequent vacations to st. kitts and st. barts during school breaks have a way of keeping him from getting too pale. his skin is dewy and unblemished. what else would you expect from someone who can pay for the best skincare and acne remedies?

orey stands at just under six feet tall and weighs roughly one hundred and sixty pounds. his build is slim, but not exceptionally muscular.

inherited from his long lineage of powerful men who talk too much, orey has the gift of the gab. in the words of f. scott fitzgerald, his "elaborate formality of speech just missed being absurd," especially for someone his age. but being surrounded by adults from a young age has a way of forcing that out of someone, doesn't it? he does have a persuasive manner and a natural way with people that is entirely his own, though. his communication skills are excellent, both verbal and written.

this isn't a sob story, but it is something quietly kind of tragic. the only child of his parents, orey's father is a very, very successful businessman (in charge of finances, works in some place on wall street), and his mother does not work. orey barely has a relationship with his father, as he was absent so much during his early childhood and, quite frankly, doesn't care to have much of a connection with him. his mother showed him the ropes to new york socialite society: shopping, luncheons, dinner parties, massages, facials, exquisite food, and museums. she also struggles with substance abuse, but manages to clean up very well. his mother and father have been on the brink of divorce for almost as long as he can remember. the reinhart house is cold and quiet, filled with money and tension and lots and lots of things unsaid.

he can get his hands on alcohol exceptionally easily, despite not being of legal drinking age. he also experiments with psychoactive drugs, and can get trusted friends whatever they ask him for. he is notoriously horrible at texting: he's the type that will disappear mid-conversation because he either forgot to reply or didn't want to. other times, it may take him days to get back to you.

(both a blessing and a curse). her recall abilities are not innate. they were painstakingly taught to her by a teacher, carefully selected by her parents. it took a good several years for her to fully adapt to the strict regimen of practicing hours upon hours everyday, memorizing numerical sequences, shuffled card decks, etc. her memory serves her well in chess, where she can analyze each play her opponent makes and compare it according to their past moves in previous matches.
- adaptive. part of the principle of mathematics is flexible, somewhat abstract thinking. it's the ability to see patterns, make analogies and meticulously distill it into a "formula" or set of rules that pertain to not only the problem it was built around, but many other similar scenarios. in that way, mathematics is a highly creative field, revolutionized by out-of-the-box thinkers. zitian is often able to see the bigger picture, approaches things with an open mind and enthusiastically inquisitive. (perhaps a little too much, for that matter). she likes seeing things in a different angle.

- sensitive. as mentioned before, zitian likes to put up a carefree, "i don't care what others think of me" facade. in reality, she's constantly worried about making a good impression, getting people to like her and making "true" friends. her emotional vulnerability made her a prime target for bullies in grade school. [div class=indent] he zitian was born on september 12th in beijing (china's bustling capital), to a family of scholars. her father (he funan) taught electrical engineering at peking university while her mother (zhang kexin) was a researcher, specializing in cancer pharmaceuticals at a prominent biotech company. the couple moved to singapore shortly after her birth. her mother's home country. there, kexin continued working in pharmaceuticals. funan struggled to gain a tenure as a professor and remained unemployed for some time. to make the best of the situation, he pulled zitian from the public system and began homeschooling her. zitian, aged five, had an uncanny ability to detect patterns and a strong affinity with numbers. under her father's tutelage, she blossomed in a haven of mathematical and scientific inquiry.

[div class=indent] after much struggle, funan managed to land a tenureship at nus (national university of singapore). while the girl, then aged 10, was happy for her father, his new job meant that he wouldn't be able to continue homeschooling her. so, it was goodbye to safe mathematical haven and hello public school. to say that the transition was rough would be the understatement of the century. the excitement of finally having friends quickly turned to sheer horror as she witnessed the torture that was middle school. all teachers taught to the test; there was no learning for the sake of learning itself. her peers shied away from interaction and lunch became a rather tragic affair. as the final cherry on top, some classmates thought it would be entertaining to start teasing the "homeschooled freak." the teasing soon escalated from name-calling to full-blown bullying by the end of her first year. zitian, not wanting to trouble her parents, sent an anonymous email to her school's guidance department, pleading for help. while they emailed her back, writing that they'd investigate her claims, no action was ever taken and zitian was forced to return for her second year pretending nothing was wrong. like a lamb to the slaughterhouse. it was only she started coming home with unexplained bruises and scrape marks did her parents notice something was wrong. after a few strongly-worded email exchanges and one-on-one sessions with the principle, zitian was subsequently withdrawn. [div class=tag4]teenage years[/div] [div class=indent] after her horrendous experience with public schooling, zitian's parents decided to give online schooling a go. which, worked out as a much better alternative. with her newfound freedom and time, zitian discovered a new hobby: chess. she began with online tournaments, learning the basics of game play and strategy and quickly rose through the ranks. her parents supported her hobby vehemently; even providing a tutor to help boost her strategy and memory skills to give her game play an edge. she transitioned from online tournaments to official ones when she was 14. although she shied away at the idea of physically facing someone at first, zitian quickly got used to it and began gaining momentum. after a few wins (some with opponents twice her age), the media published a few articles about her, dubbing her a "child prodigy." (a title which slightly irks her, as she believes it wasn't a matter of talent, but hard work). her big "break" was when she placed fifth in the youth division of a national chess competition. since then, life has been fairly kind. she graduated high school with top grades, multiple chess wins under her belt and came out of it all with a smile. icu (iris & candor university) was her top choice and she was beyond thrilled at her acceptance. Though Lauren likes to play up a tall-tale for the beginnings of the one and only "Lauren Bower - future sugar mommy and medical lawyer," she actually had rather humble beginnings and that was the theme for most of her life. She lived modestly with both her parents and brother as they believed that materialism is not the way of living, so most of her early childhood was spent on the beach watching her brother learn how to surf while her parents were constantly mistaken for being homeless. This lifestyle never really meshed well with Lauren, and she found herself drawn to the more interesting and chaotic lifestyles that celebrities had according to the tabloid magazines at the grocery stores. She would buy them with the little allowance she was given and read them cover to cover, intrigued by the critiques of celebrities' wardrobes and the hot gossip of what rehab Lindsey Lohan was attending that year. It was a comfort from the anxiety she felt with talking to her parents, talking to her peers, to anyone she was forced to interact with. Lauren didn't like living this way, and once she was in the eighth grade, she knew she needed to make a change. That's when she joined the debate team. The idea of her actually enjoying that seemed little to none with how much she disliked speaking, but it was quickly determined that Lauren was leagues above others with her quick-witted remarks and reasoning for any issue they happened to be discussing in the club. She liked doing this, she never found something that made her feel so... good.
High school was a place of reinvention she thought and decided that if the summer glow-up worked in a Disney movie, she was going to make it work in real life. So she did, even if her parents disapproved of the needless spending on clothes they thought were a mere waste, to the horrified reactions of buying makeup made with animal products, Lauren felt as if she had the power to finally say what she wanted to say and that brought both the good and the bad. With confidence comes ego, with beauty comes vanity, and with charisma comes manipulation. A constant teetering of what side of the coin she was on being pulled towards the negative with the more attention she got, with the realization that Lauren Bower was a lot more than she seemed to be at first.

And it came crashing down when she was informed that her brother was diagnosed with cancer. Lauren didn't believe it at first, why would she? Everything in her life had been working out so perfectly that she simply ignored the fact that Lucas Bower was no longer staying at their family home, but now he was stuck in a hospital room. It only hit her when neither of her parents tried to support their son through treatment, only attempting to persuade him to do more traditional or herbal remedies to help cure his cancer. Lauren was astonished, and if that wasn't bad enough it seemed that the staff at the hospital wasn't... taking the best care of her older brother. Sure she heard the rumors of the hospital at her town not being the number one location to get your surgery done but finding her quickly-ailing brother on the hospital floor one day and sores on his back from not being moved another was enough to make her realize that perhaps her skill in debating others until they were crying good be put to good use. Lauren Bower a future lawyer? You don't say.

Family: All things considered in her hectic life, Lauren has a rather average family consisting of both her parents and older brother, Lucas. She likes to think that the pet hampsters that she and Lucas bought are part of the family as well even though her parents kept complaining that they were ruining the "vibes" at their house.

Relationships:

Lucas Bower - Her older brother and partner in crime. Sometimes. It depends on who took the last pop tart that shapes their interactions for the rest of the day. She cares about him deeply and doesn't tolerate anyone saying something negative about him, though she does like to rag on him quite a bit.
Rurina Sano - Best friend... kind-of. Their relationship is mostly Rurina being annoyed by Lauren while Lauren tries bothering her by constant facetime calls and text messages. They might've slept together at some point, at least that's the rumors from their high school.
Parents - She frankly doesn't like either of her parents much for their pseudo-Woodstock ideology that seems to border on being idiotic in her mind. Unless he's interested in something you're doing, he has no reason to talk to anyone that doesn't fit into the schedule he has set for himself. Try asking him questions, he won't stop you. You're likely not going to get what you want out of him, though. It's made clear early on that he isn't... accustomed to talking to others, to the point you wonder if you're speaking to Siri and not a human being. He's brutally honest and can be perceived as blunt, but it's out of a lack of social awareness than genuine harm to whoever's feelings. Even if you're given the impression of a Terminator sent from the future to destroy John Connor, he's not against talking to others if they wish to converse, and you might be surprised to find that there's a competitive spirit underneath the layers of social inadequacy, a determination to.... perhaps push himself and his abilities to the limits.

No, his childhood felt more akin to a science experiment than being nurtured and tutored by both mother and father. Perhaps it was due to Peter Molchalin and his obsession with finding the next big breakthrough in the world of psychology and science, or maybe it was due to Alexei being born with a sensitivity to the sun's rays grazing his skin. Or maybe it was a giant coincidence. He doesn't know and frankly doesn't care. All he knows in his limited scope of the world is that going to a public school was out of the question and that his home was both a combination of where he slept, where he was tested, and where he studied.

Instead of living the normal childhood one might expect in Moscow, Russia, Alexei was instead tasked with a daily and rigorous course of anything that his father could help prove that talent wasn't innate but cultivated with one pushing the limits of how much they struggled and forced themselves into learning the subject matter. Chess was given to him and he wasn't to earn his dinner if he couldn't win a game against his old man. You weren't allowed to go play on that old Commodore your uncle gifted you until you've shown that your skill at what was provided in front of you was nothing less than satisfactory. This mentality stuck with Alexei as he grew older, no longer needing his father's constant pushing and shoving and instead his voice lingering in his head to tell him to win everything he was given. And that fell into gaming.

It had been a mere amusement at first, something to distract himself after being stuck at the dining table with a chess set in front of him and his father glaring from the other end. With the mentality of winning ingrained, it wasn't long until he wouldn't stop until he finished every game thrown at him. And finding an online community that meant he could win against those that weren't even in his proximity? The need to push and prove himself until there was no one but himself left overwhelmed him, and constant nights were spent with the dull glare of the screen showing his dull stare reflecting back on him.

His parents didn't understand the distraction until he was gaining a reputation online for the high winning streak, the constant interest in his abilities making his father curious on the long term benefits of allowing him to... pursue something that he was interested in that seemed to have a potential for a high reputation. If his studies couldn't work out, then what could Alexei's reputation do for him? The first tournament he went to he had won. And then the second proved no different, and suddenly there was an interest in Alexei "PyotrTsar" Molchalin when previously no one had known such a person existed. Alexei didn't care about the fame, only that there was a first-place trophy sitting in his room. And ICU seemed to think similarly.[/div]

Peter Molchalin: The relationship between Alexei and his father is quite a strange one, a great sense of pride yet disdain on his father's side while Alexei tries not to think about how his childhood was more of a giant experiment for his father's sake.
Anisa Molchalin: Alexei finds her to be quite overbearing, and feels as if he can't quite escape from her even if he's a country away. She tends to text and call him to make sure that he's doing fine, though he doesn't like to answer and often won't. She leaves strongly-worded voicemails at that.
MoxSapphire: The closest thing he has to a friend, though he doesn't know too much about them. They met while playing online chess and they bested Alexei more than he cares to admit. He insisted that they keep playing until the tides turned, and they have been ever since. Alexei is curious about who they are, especially with being out of the house leaves him with the freedom to chat without his parent's shadow looming over him.

+ Amicable / Cordial / Friendly | The majority of his actions (if not all) are good-natured. Eli may be one of the kindest individuals one could ever meet, and he ensures that he viewed in a positive light rather than the opposite. Expect him to be very approachable and courteous to those he so-recently just met.
+ Creative / Imaginative / inspirational | Eli has an artistic perspective on everything, hence why he has become such an accomplished young artist. His masterpieces are both original and innovative, putting to use concepts and styles even the most esteemed artists have not thought of. He has also expanded past traditional art styles, having somewhat-mastered Realism, Painterly, Abstraction, and Cartoons (and yes, he can draw anime). At the moment, he is trying to touch-up on his photorealism and animation skills. Outside of painting and art, Eli is an innovative person in general. Even with projects that do not require art, he still has otherworldly ideas to apply to the work.
+ Selfless / Humble / Modest | Frequently does he reject gifts of all types, refusing to accept something that should benefit the person instead. = Hopeless Romantic | Yes, an artist who is a hopeless romantic, as if Eli’s life couldn’t get any more complicated. He adores romance books and watches romcoms religiously. He is the type of person who may instantly get a crush on someone who, by showing common courtesy, could have simply picked up what he had dropped. Then directly after someone else might tell him he looks nice and he will immediately switch his crush. He has an entire page in his art journal dedicated to a past crush of his (since he has too damn much to keep count). He truly believes the whole soulmate trope in the movies and novels (~~and fanfiction~~) he has either watched or read (respectively). Whether or not he is setting himself up for multiple downfalls, who really knows? Maybe his soulmate really is out there, but for now, he is just as content with living through the characters of those romance movies/novels.
= Sensitive / Easily Hurt / Emotional | Eli is sensitive in the way that he is thoughtful of those who may be going through some troubling times. He is also emotionally sensitive, being somewhat unstable in that area. He is quick to cry, even if the situation does not call for such a reaction.
= Shy / Introverted / Quiet | The artist is soft-spoken as shouting or yelling does not come naturally to him. This gives him an easy-going first-impression for those who may meet him for the first time, when he’s internally screaming inside instead. An introvert through thick and thin, Eli would rather dig himself a grave and lay in it than be the center of attention in a crowd. Getting him to open up and be more social is a challenge within itself and any who manage to do the impossible should most definitely get a medal.

- Cowardly / Spineless / Faint-hearted | The main reason as to why Eli has so many failed crushes is because of his inability to make a move. He will chicken out, 100% guaranteed. It gets worse if he is watching a horror movie (which he won’t, but unfortunately for him, peer pressure exists), he will indeed dolphin-scream whenever jump scared and bundle himself up into a blanket burrito. If he were to come face-to-face with something terrifying, ~~deadass~~ he will faint. He avoids confrontation wherever possible, but in the case that he is forced to engage another human being, he will be visibly trembling and stuttering. Then again, he was diagnosed with social anxiety when he was younger. Though his situation is getting reasonably better, he still suffers from the symptoms of his anxiety.
- Gloomy / Melancholy / Blue | This may be very stereotypical of an artist, but Elijah is surface-level on the spectrum. Some days he will be down in the dumps while other days he is much happier and enthusiastic (and if he is excessively so, then someone call please 911 because most likely this poor boy is being held at gunpoint). Every passing day is a roll of the die, so finding him in either state of mind has an equal possibility.
- Insecure / Unconfident / Doubtful | As if expectation vs. reality could not be more relatable, Eli truthfully believes his work is trash*. Even with how critics have praised his artwork countless times, he still thinks it is out of pity. His low self-esteem may come off as annoying, since with every compliment he receives he will shoot it down with a self-criticism.
*Of course, not saying that he does not avidly enjoy his chosen career path.
- Paranoid / Anxious / Apprehensive | He does tend to get pessimistic about certain things. His anxiety only serves to worsen these tendencies, but because of this trait of his, he does earn the nickname “Shaggy” from Scooby Doo.

Elijah’s father is a good man, taking care of his family and wife whenever he can. He has a great sense of humor and is seemingly the perfect family man, but after his divorce with his supposed “love of his life,” he is starting to doubt that. He has now become a depressed man, a shell of what he once was. Luckily for him, Choonhee was there to pick up the pieces of his broken heart. As for his relationship with Elijah, they could be identical twins with how similar they are. Even with all his father’s faults, Elijah still looks up to him as a mentor.

Step-Mother | Kim Choonhee 김천희 | FC: Lee Minyoung
Getting close to his stepmother was not that difficult and Elijah came to love her very much over the years. Since she is not home all the time, due to her traveling because of her job, he is not able to see her as frequently. However, that does not stop him from keeping in touch with her through facetime, messaging, and phone calls.

Step-Sister | Kim Jiyoo 김유유 | FC: Kang Minah
Jiyoo could be one of the best older sisters to ever exist, and though he has done her part in driving Elijah completely mad, she has also done her part as a loving and caring sister. Her perceptive nature and altruism have made Jiyoo both a best friend and mother-substitute for the siblings. Elijah and her have become inseparable before she went off to college, but now that she is home (after getting a job nearby) they are back to being closer than ever.

Biological-Sister | Kim Seoyeon 김서연 | FC: Moon Sinae
Though Seoyeon may sometimes be the devil-incarnate, she still has a special place in Elijah’s heart. She would do anything in order to cheer Elijah up on his bad days, and she will even something so outlandish in order to make him laugh. But.. she also seems to have major mob boss vibes, for some reason. Despite her innocent appearance, she can get somewhat intimidating (especially when angered) and can get very shady at times, as well. Maybe she is just joking when she says she hid another body but who really knows? Elijah is well aware of her love for dark humor, so perhaps she is just taking that type of humor to another level. However… whether or not she is actually committing fraud or some other crime behind her family’s backs… your guess is as good as mine.

Step-Sister | Kim Aecha 김애차 | FC: Jung Dabin
The baby of the family, as well as the mob boss’s minion, Aecha is made out to be the troublemaker of the family. In reality, she is just incredibly impressionable and gullible and able to be convinced of anything. One-time Seoyeon told Aecha that she needed her help because she accidentally poisoned herself and Aecha began to wail like a banshee. Then again, Aecha is also very oblivious and forgot the date of that day (being April 1st).
She constantly bothers her brother and sister (Seoyeon) in the hopes of solving her boredom, but would only either be scared out of her mind by Seoyeon or… well… Elijah could not do anything to make Aecha go away anyways, so instead he would suffer through with it. He loves Aecha very much, but some days he wished to be left alone.

Childhood (0-10) ||

Elijah was only 8 years old when the nasty divorce between his father and biological mother happened. His and Seoyeon's lives were flipped upside down, unable to fully comprehend the situation that they would never see their mother again. Though, their parents showed all the symptoms of a divorce. Daily arguments over the simplest of things erupted at the dinner table (some escalating to violence, leading to Elijah taking his sister to his room and locking the door out of fear), and being put (along with his sister) in the middle of their disputes have all occurred in the last few years. Whether or not his mother or father were right in the predicament is debatable, but his father managed to take custody of both Elijah and his sister after battling out the divorce in court. They moved promptly after to Seoul and his father was able to immediately meet another woman who had daughters of her own.
To be completely honest, Elijah was quite content with having only one demon (Kim Seoyeon) in the household. Alas, Elijah was now gifted with the two bundles of happiness that are his stepsisters. Seoyeon was overjoyed to know she had two more sisters to enjoy life annoy the ever-living hell out of her brother with.
A year after his father’s and stepmother’s wedding, they packed their bags and moved speedily moved to the Americas to start anew. Especially with how his father was offered a manager position at another insurance company and with how the children were still young, he was quick to make the decision for them to move.
Elijah and his sisters were taught by an English tutor once they fully moved into their new house in California.
Having now grown up with three sisters (and no fellow males), Elijah was subjected to motherly nagging by the eldest (Kim Jiyoo), makeup by the middle sister (Kim Seoyeon), and tea parties by the youngest (Kim Aecha). To have endured such ~~torture~~ care from his sisters, Elijah developed a slight fear of the opposite sex that he carried with him to the present-day. Additionally, having three sisters only meant that he had to listen to three girls fangirling over cheesy, romance movies/shows. Of course, 10-year-old was forced to watch this genre, and oh he tried so hard to keep his masculinity… but soon he too found himself invested in the love life of these fictional characters. People could say this was when he thought his life would also be a Disney movie, where he would find his soulmate and live happily-ever-after with them.
Elijah was then able to enroll in elementary school in the states and expressed an immense interest in his art class. Everyday he was able to attend his art class, he was brimming with enthusiasm (a unlikely phenomenon for present-Elijah). His teacher was keen on whatever projects he was able to create and was surprised with every result. She thought he really was gifted at such a young age.
When his art class could not satiate his never-ending hunger for creating something of artistic quality, he would bother his parents to take him to craft stores. He enjoyed painting and drawing and would spend almost every day within his mess of a room, working until his fingers cramped up.

Adolescence (11-14) ||

Once he entered middle school, his drawing abilities were even more apparent. Now that he was able to further his art education slightly more, he was able to touch-up on his abilities. His teachers constantly urged him to enter art competitions, despite his strong objection. And yet, after much prodding he gave up and submitted a portfolio of his work to the school’s art competition. Much to his surprise, he won the competition (though he believed that bias was a big contender to the reason why he won, after hearing that the art teachers were the judges). In spite of feeling dejected for not winning the competition fairly, Elijah felt compelled to actually test out his skills by applying to bigger competitions.
In middle school was also when he would start accumulating crush after crush. He would sketch them in the margins of his notes, fantasize about their wedding, etc. Elijah was not the type to suddenly confess without fear, however. Keeping his feelings to himself was much more appealing to him then the likelihood that he would be rejected. Oh, rejection scared him. There was only one time he was coaxed by his sisters to confess to this one girl and he was immediately rejected; he did not go to school for the next three days. But Elijah is infamously known to cycle through his crushes continuously and maintaining a crush for longer than a week was unlikely of him to do. During this time, he was gifted a journal for his birthday, and instead of using it for art projects other than his “love life,” he instead dedicated each page to multiple sketches of each crush. The possibility of someone getting this journal was (and is) VERY improbable since he guards the thing like a Doberman.

Teenage Years / Present (15-18) ||

In high school, Elijah was able to properly put to use his art skills by winning multiple competitions. Some of his work even being showcased for all the world to see. He still brushed the wins off, thinking his art was not worthy enough to gain such attention. In his other classes, he was passing but not exactly excelling in them (making the occasional B or C). Art was taking up more and more of life academic life, and he was readying himself to apply to art schools by creating his portfolios.
His eldest sister was the primary caretaker of the siblings and was entrusted with this title by her busy parents. She was also the main advisor of Elijah, helping him with applying to colleges (after having graduated college herself). She was well aware of his art skills and referred many prestigious art schools (some of which who have already shown interest in admitting him) but also wanted him to apply to some other, more well-rounded schools. ICU was one of them that she recommended, but Elijah knew of the school’s selective process. Many of the students at his high school were trying to get admitted into ICU, and he was informed by some of them that only the best of the best get in. He was certainly not the best of the best, but how could he refuse to apply when his sister was so adamant on him getting in? At least once he applies and gets rejected, she will rest easy knowing that her brother is not a messiah from the heavens (seriously, why does everyone think that?).
As soon as he received that fated acceptance letter, Elijah was about to go and burn it in the fireplace (and probably make up a story that he was rejected) until the youngest sister found it and called Jiyoo. He was very close to escaping this fate, but he was reminded yet again that him and fate are not on the same side. Great, not only was he going to a school where everyone either already won a gold Olympic medal, created their own thriving business, or was just plain rich and famous. He was none of those, and he was quite happy with that. If anything, he was hoping for a mediocre life, not one where he would be amidst the best students in the world and stick out like a sore thumb. Why in the hell did ICU want him? He had to find out, because there was no way that his grades or art skills were the ones who got him into one of the most prestigious schools on the face of the planet.
