    • "Godblooded" child of an undisclosed Celestial God. The “daughter” of an earlier Resplendent Destiny, Lerayl is a scavenger lord with ties to Lookshy, who returns every so often to sell her wares and teach a handful of elective courses at Lookshyan Academies. Occasionally, she travels further into the east, doing her trade in some of the more unique places found at Creation’s rim. She is one of the few mortals who has been granted admittance to the empire of the Jadeborn, who have been informed that she is in fact a secret half-caste daughter of Kurea herself.
Artifacts
  • Loom-Conducting Glove (•••••)
    • This unique artifact consists of a complicated armature of fine starmetal blades, needles, hooks, and wires, which are worn around the wielder’s hand. Upon the palm, there is a circular setting similar to a hearthstone amulet, though inert. Attunement to this artifact costs 25 motes to begin with, however mere essence cannot evince its true power.
    • In order to activate the artifact, the wearer must craft a Destiny of at least 3 dots, while attuned to it. At the moment of completion, the Destiny in question seems to vanish, and the setting on the palm becomes filled with a milky-white light, and the mote commitment is reduced by (3 x Destiny rating) motes. Should attunement be lost, the Destiny will later need to be crafted anew.
    • Within Creation, in places which are Inside Fate, the attuned wearer may make alterations to the Pattern of Creation directly, as though using Wyld-Shaping Technique with a Hand of the Great Maker, subject to the following differences:
      • The extended roll uses the lesser of the character’s (Lore) or (Craft (Fate)) ratings. It may not be enhanced by Craft charms, other than Excellencies.
      • A 3-dot Destiny may shape Yu Shan and uncapped Demesnes at Difficulty 1, and Manses at Difficulty 3.
      • A 4-dot Destiny may additionally shape other areas of Creation at Difficulty 5.
      • A 5-dot Destiny may additionally shape Shadowlands, Bordermarches, and Freeholds at Difficulty 10.
      • Instead of costing Willpower, each roll to gather successes instead inflicts (6 – Destiny rating) points of Paradox upon the wielder.
      • The Loom-Conductor’s Glove may bank up to (5 x Destiny rating) successes in its essence matrix at once, for later use.
  • Weaver-Enticing Identifier (•••••)
    • The Weaver-Enticing Identifier is a simple Starmetal thread, which in a delicate surgery, is painstakingly woven in a precise pattern unique for each individual, around a Sidereal’s heart. This pattern forms an arcane link with their thread within the Loom of Fate, and permanently drawing the Pattern Spiders’ focus. This carries the following effects:
      • The higher of Charisma or Appearance may be used for any Prayer rolls to draw a Pattern Spider’s attention.
      • When using a Loom-Conducting Glove, the wielder gains the benefit of Wyld Cauldron Technology.
      • The wielder may request more dramatic alterations to the Pattern Spiders’ design. This functions just like requesting a normal Destiny, save that no College is added to the Effect Roll. If successful, the character may use Effect Points to alter the nature of a shaped region, as though using the charm Shinmaic Communion. The alterations take effect over the next 25 hours, during which the Sidereal must conduct a Wrapped-Fly Ritual. The Sidereal may additionally spend up to 5 points of Endurance from Resplendent Destin(ies) that she possesses to gain additional Effect points.
      • This artifact does not have a mote attunement cost. Instead, the cost is the scrutiny with which the Pattern Spiders pay attention to the user’s actions. The maximum Paradox they may hold before being punished with a Pattern Bite falls from 10 to 9. Once per scene when you gain Paradox, take 1A as the Pattern Spiders make their displeasure viscerally known. At Storyteller discretion, points of Paradox may also be spent to force rerolls at crucial moments, as per the Unlucky flaw.
  • (Virtuous) Fate-Consumption Engines (•••)
    • It’s well-known that alterations to the brain can change someone’s personality. What moreso then, can manipulations of their very fate? These artifacts allow Sidereals to turn over portions of their carefully-sculpted Destinies as sacrifices to the Pattern-spiders, who then consume a measure of the user's free will in order to strengthen their character and rejuvenate their wills. The Fate Consumption Engines come in four varieties – Compassionate, Convicted, Valorous, and Temperate – each corresponding to one of the four Virtues. Appearing as small Orichalcum pills, swallowing one and committing 1 mote to attune causes it to dissolve, traveling through the blood and into the brain, providing a limited link to the Loom of Fate. Each requires the incorporation of a crafted Destiny of at least 3 dots, in order to activate. Once per scene, the attuned user may spend 1 Endurance from her worn Resplendent Destiny to boost the Virtue to 5, if it was not already so, and is treated as its natural rating for all effects. Furthermore, while 5 dots in the Virtue, the bearer gains the following powers, neither of which function during any scene in which Paradox has been gained for any reason:
      • She may spend 5 Essence to make a Difficulty 1 mental prayer to the Pattern Spiders, to enhance their Virtue in question by 1 per success, which counts as dice added by a charm.
      • Whenever her player (7 – Destiny) die stunt, she may sacrifice a measure of that achievement achievement (the extra dice), and 5 motes to the Pattern Spiders, in exchange for them restoring a Virtue channel. The stunt in question must be one for which the Virtue is applicable.
    • As long as a given Fate-Consumption Engine is implanted (which requires a Difficulty 5 (Wits + Medicine) roll to surgically remove, and leaving a (5 – unmodified Virtue) penalty to all mental rolls for a month thereafter), treat the associated Virtue as being a Primary Virtue, but granting Paradox rather than Limit. The Pattern Spiders do not enjoy contradictory requests.
    • Kurea has all four Fate-Consumption Engines.
  • Ablative Mask of Fate (••)
    • This artifact is a simple mask, which sinks into the wearer's skin to become invisible when worn. The wearer may sacrifice any carried Resplendent Destiny, burning all remaining Endurance at once, to mimic the charm Duck Fate. If used to protect against an attack, this may be activated in Step 8. The sacrificed destiny manifests itself as a corpse appropriate to the Destiny in question, which is affected by Arcane Fate and decays into spiderwebs once forgotten.
  • Infallible Notebook (••)
    • Normally appearing to be a notebook or pad of some sort, these artifacts always come in groups of one or more. Attunement (costing 1m per book) must be done simultaneously between all copies intended to be linked, distributed among the participants. Once attuned, an individual may write messages into one of the notebooks, which then appear in all other such notebooks except their own. Each message costs 5 motes from the sender and all recipients. While writing in the notebook, the user falls into a mild trance state, during which they are somewhat suggestible; the ST should make a secret Difficulty 3 Willpower roll on their behalf to avoid accidentally including stray thoughts and the occasional personal secret, in the correspondence. Notebooks may store any number of messages, and messages may be erased from an attuned notebook by spending a mote.
    • Kurea and Mara have a pair of linked notebooks. Kurea’s is hidden within an especially dry manual of Mountain Folk legal history.
  • Essence-Scrying Visor (•)
    • As per the first version from Scroll of Fallen Races.
  • Starmetal Infinite Resplendence Amulet (•••)
    • As per Dreams of the First Age.
  • Bracers of Universal Crafting (•••)
    • As per Wonders of the Lost Age.
  • Fivefold Harmonic Adapter (•)
    • As per Wonders of the Lost Age. A few spares.
  • Aegis Inset Amulet (•)
    • As per Wonders of the Lost Age.
  • Skin Mount Amulets (••)
    • As per Wonders of the Lost Age. 3x copies, along her spine.
  • Lightning Boxes (••)
    • As per Wonders of the Lost Age. 2x boxes.
Hearthstones
  • Stone of Acrid Understanding (Virtriol •••)
    • A gift from Mara in the third year of Kurea’s apprenticeship, after she successfully assassinated an influential Dynast, pinned the murder on the woman’s son, and then collected a handsome reward from an inexperienced member of the Wyld Hunt, after helping her track down and slay the “murderous Yozi cultist.”
    • The Manse in question lies within the Demon Realm, in a place of isolated Wyld-Contamination, produced by a raiding party of Raksha whose reach far exceeded their grasp.
  • Sign of Chaos (Oramus •••)
    • Another gift from Mara, this time for the two-hundredth anniversary of their partnership, and a week after Kurea concluding a series of careful manipulations which led to two of the Shadow-Lover’s rivals being bound as the eternal guardians of a pair of Solar Manses commissioned by the Bureau of Destiny.
    • The Manse in question is a recently-constructed possession of Mara, located in Halta and owned under an assumed identity.

Biography

Kurea Ohashi was born just over three hundred years ago in Coral. A sickly girl from a poor family in a patriarchal society, she knew from a young age that she had no future worth contemplating. At the age of 16, she ran away from home to join the Tya, hoping for something better than the world she knew. She never got there. The ship she showed away in encountered a Lintha raid, and Kurea was taken as a slave. Three years later a would-be-sorcerer and her current master, was consumed by the demon he had beckoned forth into Creation. Seeing her chance, she threw herself at the feet of Mara the Shadow-Lover, Defining Soul of Erembour, That Which Calls to Shadows, 7th Soul of the Ebon Dragon, begging to be taught the ways of power so that she would never fear subjugation again.

Six years later, the day after Mara sent her out on her first solo mission, she received the Fateful Exaltation, at once losing much of the power she had been initiated into by her dark patron, and attracting the attentions of the Five-Score Fellowship. Over the course of her training, she grew disgusted by the manipulators who had directly created the world she was forced to grow up in, who only now sought to provide her and her alone with all that she had fought and sold and suffered and killed and served for in the past quarter-century. Nevertheless, she was no saboteur: though she was grateful to her former patron for giving her a chance to rise out of the gutter, Kurea still recognized that a world ruled by Mara's masters would be a terrible place. Nevertheless, she reasoned, it's not as though they couldn't still find reason to collaborate at times... though obviously her Sidereal superiors didn't need to know this, suspicious and paranoid as they were.

After an eventful first few decades spent operating on Creation's eastern rim (and one disaster of a mission that saw her severely censured when she went into Limit Break while forced to operate in Coral of all places, and decided that the best way to ensure that a wealthy privateer's banquet failed to impress the Denzik potentiate on the other end of his smuggling operation, was to burn down a recordkeeping building, kill every bureaucrat who fled, and attempt to rescue a whole class of slave-auditors) she eventually found her calling. While stuck in Yu-shan under close surveillance to assure her mental stability, she had an opportunity to participate in a sacrificial maintenance ritual on an Atelier-manse, and spend the following day recovering in its libraries. A taste of motonic science soon grew into a passion, spending all of her limited free time studying, and soon enough putting her research into practice. Within a century, she was one of the top artificers for the Five-Score Fellowship performing regular maintenance on their cachees, had dramatically expanded the field of magitech fate manipulation, and had found a sifu to instruct her in the Dreaming Pearl Courtesan Style to improve her multitasking capabilities. Within two, she had convinced the elders that her skills could better be put to use off the field, earned Asna's personal attention by designing experimental fate-manipulation technology to ease the workload of the Pattern Spiders, and begun seeking permission from Nysela to study the Furnace Empyrean.

In her identity as an agent of heaven, Kurea Ohashi is as busy as any other Sidereal, producing artifacts for the Bureau to distribute to active-duty agents and as bribes to other factions in heaven, teaching the most promising students in heaven and earth, and currying favor with the Pattern Spiders by designing tools to aid in their work. On the side, she maintains ties on behalf of the Bureau to the Conclave of Dijak, a large and prosperous Jadeborn city-state to the East. Over the past century, she's been engaged in a long-term fate manipulation at their behest in order to increase the fraction of Enlightened Jadeborn; as well as serving as sifu and instructor to some of the most advanced Enlightened.

Kurea Ohashi has the dubious distinction of being the founder and sole member of the Jade Faction. In her view, the Exalted of every stripe have demonstrated routinely over the course of Creation's history that whatever their individual skill and majesty, none of them are fit for leadership of Creation. The Jadeborn, by contrast, have maintained their arcane empire for millennia without causing the sort of devastation the Exalted routinely unleashed, and have successfully maintained continuity of society and culture even in their reduced state, through the Great Geas, the Great Contagion, and the Balorian Crusade. Most of all, compared to how the Dragon Blooded interact with their serfs, even the Unenlightened of the Mountain Folk are treated fantastically well. Should she have the opportunity to visit Autochthonia, she would leave it similarly inspired – a whole civilization ruled by mortals, where Exalted are able to collaborate and become pillars of society without seeking to rule it – admittedly, one where slavery and other abuses are still commonplace. Moreover of course, there would be the nagging wonder of just what would be necessary to duplicate Autochthon's great masterwork.

Sherwood Sherwood think I'm done, unless there's anything I forgot. Made more changes throughout of course (including some changes to existing artifacts), and expanded the background yet again.

Looks good?

Brief Biography
Born in great forks and quickly passed to heaven Tines has grown up in the care and opulence of the beaure of destiny since she was an infant. Raised by their sifu Ayn Singh Tines studied martial arts religiously in addition to their general serenities training and was shown the horrors of the first age and the need to overthrow the solars at every turn. After coming into their own and departing their prior sifu with a promise to surpass her someday Tines has joined the gold faction with the return of the solars as they see few scenarios where the bronze can truly do what they wish and honestly solars work better for their aims. Tines dream is a better world than any that have come before, a proper utopia this time of peace, equality, and contentment and for this they are willing to do just about anything. A long standing personal trainer of solar chosen Tines does not hide what they are from their closest students believing that any misdirection at this stage could spell catastrophe later and as such those who work as Tines fingers do so knowing what they are.
