I love the little quote you added up top by the way! And don't feel compelled to write as much. I just like making long starters. ))

Everyone who lived in the cul de sac knew each other. And people who didn't live in the cul de sac knew about the people who did. Which is why the news spread like wildfire that the Christiansens had finally split. Mary was a bit of drunk just like her best friend. Which is why the news shocked and stung a little more. Because Joseph was leaving her, for her best friend. Robert Small was notorious for being a little bit of a bad boy. Alcohol was one thing, but he was obsessed with "fictional paranormal entities". Otherwise known as cryptids. Don't try to tell him that they aren't real though. It's for your own safety.

Most people in the small, but lively town had no idea that Robert even had a daughter. He didn't even remotely look like parent material. There were even few people in the cul de sac that knew. If it was known or not, he did have a daughter. She was all grown now and he hadn't spoken to her in years. He hadn't even attempted to reach out to her. He felt like a failure. So what better way to redeem himself then by trying to help out with his new boyfriend's kids? Turns out, there's a reason Robert doesn't look like parent material. Robert stayed home with the twins while Joseph was at the church. The children and baby were not old enough for school yet. It was a nightmare.

They went to the park, and the twins performed a satanic ritual on some poor baby's teddy. He wasn't even sure where they learned that. Than he went home to make them take a nap like Joseph instructed. They scribbled all over one of Joseph's many copies of The Good Book. And finally, when Robert tried making cookies for the upcoming bake sale, which he has no idea how to make, batter got all over the kitchen. And Robert. And the kids. Which brings us to now, where Christy is still trying to make batter even when she's covered in it, Chistian is playing with the batter that's all over the floor, and Robert is trying to clean the batter off the baby as Joseph walks in from a long day at work.

// ah thank you!

Joseph groaned quietly as he walked in the door from a long day at the church. It wasn't the best job, or pasttime, but he had to deal with it, and it gave him money to support his children, and also Robert. He frowned as he ran a hand through his blonde hair with one of his free hands. The other hand was holding his backpack, and some other things that the kids had left at the church on Sunday, as said by his "coworkers". He was too busy looking down and watching his steps to make sure he didn't even fall, he was so tired. He then looked up, his blue eyes searching the disaster. His eyes then fell on Robert, a small frown on his face. He always hated when his house was in such a mess, and he knew that if he were to let Robert babysit, of course the house would be in a mess, so he shouldn't be as surprised as he is now.

He was a little happy that Robert was trying to clean up, and he decided to just put his things ( and the kids things ) on the staircase, and then he went over and tried to help them. He kept his shoes on so he wouldn't slip and fall in the mess.. He just walked over and he came behind Christy, who was trying to make batter, and he took ahold of her hand, making her drop the spoon that was the creator of the mess. He sighed and he took the bowl and the spoon from her, and he brought it over to the sink. There was too much going on, and especially after Joseph had such a long day at work, cleaning up a kids mess of cookie dough was probably the worst that could happen. He knew Robert would let something like this spiral into sheer terror. He knew it was probably worse for him because he had to deal with the kids all day while he was gone, but not Joseph had to come back to the messiest he's ever seen his own home.

He then began cleaning the dishes, all of them, before sprucing up the rest of the house. He then groaned as he realized he had to mop the floor. He then looked at Robert trying to clean off Christian.
"It would be better if I were to just wash him. You can stay here and mop the floor free of this cookie dough.. We can just make the cookies later.." He sighed as he picked up the sticky baby that had cookie dough all over him. "Thanks for trying to clean him up though." He said softly as he showed Robert where all the cleaning supplies were at, and he lifted an eyebrow. "I guess you know how to clean stuff like this up?" Crish started whining, Joseph didn't want any sticky cookie dough to get on his suit, so he was holding Crish away from him. He groaned once again and he rolled his eyes. "I guess I have to wash him now.. Just try your best to clean up the floor, I expect everything to be spotless by the time I come back down these stairs, and you should help Robert as well, Christy, this was your fault just as much as it was his." He said with a stern tone. He probably wasn't the best at being a dad, but he was good at giving directions and making himself firm with his words.

He took Crish upstairs and he sighed, admiring his blonde hair that didn't look too much different than his own. "You're a pretty baby, but you sure are dirty." He knew that Mary had misplaced Crish at the cul-de-sac barbeque, but Joseph was the one that found him, surprisingly. He starting running the bath water, making sure it wasn't too hot, or too cold, and when he started filling up the bathtub with room temperature water, he placed Crish in there slowly and carefully and he sighed, and then he began washing him. "Disgusting.." He managed to get out as he saw the chocolate chips floating in the water as he washed him.

Robert felt terrible. It was his first day as a real dad and he'd already screwed up. He was convinced that he had made Joseph's day just that much harder and wasn't sure if he should continue to help with the kids, but he definitely could clean. That was one of the very few parenting skills that he actually possessed. He had no parental instinct what so ever and he set a bad example. You pull a knife out in front of a kid and start making something really cool, but then say "Don't play with knives." Yeah that's not going to convince any child. They'd end up stabbing themselves quicker than you could even register that they had a knife in their posession to begin with. He even filled them with tales about cryptids. So maybe that's now they learned about the rituals......no. absolutey not. Robert made sure to leave out details that they might imitate.

When Joseph had walked in, Robert couldn't even meet the man's eyes. He was utterly disappointed in himself. He didn't expect to do great by any means. He didn't even expect to do good. He just expected to do better then this. It really had been a disaster. He had no idea how to be a father. Why did he ever think that this would work? Ever? Ugh he needed a drink. Robert still didn't meet Joseph's eyes as he went to get the cleaning supplies. He couldn't look into those baby blue eyes knowing they weren't very happy with him. He had batter all over his jacket. Great. Robert got to cleaning, and the kitchen was absolutely spotless in a matter of minutes. It even looked better than it had before the batter incident. "We gotta get you cleaned up." he said to the kids. Christy's dress was batter splatted. And Christian's outfit had stains that would probably never come out. "Go upstairs and change. i can wash them." The twins happily obliged and walked upstairs to change out the absolutely ruined clothes.

After moments later of washing Crish, he frowned and he drained the water, watching the now almost melted chocolate chips go down the drain. He sighed and he wrapped the small infant around in a towel, and he looked at him. "Don't let Robert get you into things like this.. It can get you into big trouble, mister." He knew Crish probably didn't understand a word he just said, but he wanted to make sure that Robert knew what to do, and what not to do with his kids, because he knew the kids could be complete troublemakers, and go out of their way just to get in trouble. He brought him to his own individual room, and he looked through drawers of clothes as Crish rested on his side, as Joseph held him. "Hm, let's see." He whispered as he took out a new, fresh diaper and then a quick footie that he could pull onto Crish. After that, he couldn't wait to go downstairs to see his kitchen not spotless like he expected, so he could yell at both Robert and his kids. He wasn't going to lie, Robert being in the house was somewhat of a burden to Joseph.. It was almost like he did the worse things at the most terrible time possible.

He changed Crish's diaper on the changing table, and he pulled the footie over the wide-eyed blonde-haired infant. He smiled at the sight of him. Even though he could be a troublemaker, and even though he got lost at a cookout, he loved the boy half to death. He buttoned up the footie on the bottom, and he looked into his blue eyes. "Alright, time to go downstairs." He said softly and he picked the boy up, turning off the light in his room and closing the door behind him. He went down the stairs quickly, yet safely so he wouldn't drop the baby, and fall. He took a deep breath before turning the corner and going into the kitchen because he sure as hell didn't know what to expect. Moments after mentally, physically, and vocally preparing himself, he turned the corner and he looked at the kitchen, his eyes wide.

It was clean? At that time, the children had passed by them, probably going up the stairs to change their clothes. A small smile formed on his face and he nodded, impressed of course.. He wouldn't even think that Robert was capable of cleaning up such a Jurassic mess like the batter incident. He took a slight sigh of relief and he walked into the kitchen, looking up at Robert and saying, "You did a good job.. Really proud of you." He said softly and he looked away, rocking Crish a little bit.. He had looked tired before, when he was in the bathtub, so he was waiting for the probably still sleepy baby to fall asleep, so he could start watching television.. It was the perfect way, for Joseph, to wind down after a long day of work.

Robert was undeniablely one of the worst parents ever. He wasn't sure why. He tried to be a good father. When he did see his kid anyway. He really really tried. But it seemed that no matter what he did that he always screwed it up. There was a period of time in which he was a good father to Val. He knew how to wash clothes, he was great at cooking, cleaning was definitely his specialty, he was very caring, knew about a million lullabys, could brush her hair without causing any pain, and most importantly he was there for her. Val had always been closer to Robert than her mother. They looked and acted exacty alike.

Robert loved playing with her, reading to her, he just loved being around her. But when his wife died, he couldn't do any of that. So he thought it better to give his daughter up than to drag her into the stupid things he'd gotten himself into. Maybe he was right, and maybe he was wrong. But she wanted nothing to do with him now, so it didn't matter. He didn't want to be the reason that Joseph's kids wanted nothing to do with their father when they grew up. He wanted to be a parent figure. Even now he was doing better than Mary ever did. He waited for the twins to change out of the clothes. He looked to Joseph, with a trying emotionless face. Joseph was proud of him......He couldn't stay completely emotionless.

Robert cracked a slight smilem than put the clothes to soak. It would be easier to get the batter out that way. Robert didn't expect the slamming of the door as Joseph's oldest son, Chris, walked into the house. He obviously had a bad day. Kids at that age are very moody. Chris was just an especially moody kid. He basically despised Joseph. He hated Joseph's demeanor. He hated the pearly white smile Joseoh gave to the neighbors. He hated Joseph's obsession with church. He hated Joseph's cook outs.

And he hated how everyone seemed to love how utterly fake Joseph was. The only time Chris actually liked Joseph, was when Joseph was mad. That was the sliver of his dad that he remembered before he joined the church. When his dad was adventurous. When his dad hadn't started to keep secrets. So, that's why Chris was the child that was the most on board with Robert. Robert wasn't fake like Joseph was. He was absolutely a bad person, and not afraid to admit it.

Joseph really didn't think that Robert was one of the worst parents out there.. He just.. made the wrong choices at the wrong times, just like deciding to make cookies with the kids, and messing up drastically right before he got home from work. He just felt as if Robert needed a little help, a little guidance. He knew he didn't see his daughter as often, but taking care of all of Joseph's kids could be a lesson for Robert, because they were unpredictable and irrational, especially Chris. Joseph would just probably have to give Robert a little bit of help with his parenting skills, because he knew how bad he needed it.

Joseph saw the slight smile that appeared on Robert's face and he couldn't help but smile back to him. He didn't want to put him down and just straight frown at him. He cleaned up his house,a nd he seemed to do it really well. There was no trace of cookie dough anywhere, and the kids were cleaned up. He was doing a good job so far, and he wasn't going to lie and say he wasn't. He sat down on the couch and continued to rock Crish to sleep, and he sighed softly as the baby was just starting to get his eyes closed.

But then he heard the slamming of the door.. Joseph was startled and Crish started crying. "Chris." He whispered quietly under his breath, and he got up from the couch, not even daring to approach the young man. He knew that everyday he was like this, because he always would say , 'He didn't have any friends at school', or he'll just say, 'Everyone was treating me like absolute shit'. And it was the same two or three excuses everyday, and Joseph had of course gotten tired of it, and he didn't want to listen to it anymore than he already has. He knew that Chris didn't like him, but he could care less. Kids always don't like their parents, and Joseph found that okay.

Joseph just took a deep breath and he sat back down on the couch, rocking the small infant back to sleep so he would be able to do things that he enjoyed doing the most. He frowned slightly, it would take a while for the kid to go back to sleep, because any little noise would wake him up and make him cry. And at this time, he was still crying, so he figured he would have to warm up his milk bottle and give it to him, because that's the only way to make him stop crying.. From Joseph's experience that is.
