All CS should include:

character name (courtesy and birth)

title (if esteemed enough)
weapon(s) / weapon name(s)

appearance

history
misc.

*for weapons stick as close to canon as possible
*the Lan Sizhui / Lan Jingyi / Jin Ling generation are 18 in the RP
*I'm sure I don't need to explain how formalities work. Just mind the ages of the characters your OC addresses and add the appropriate title there.
*appearance needs to be written out in description pls, however brief it may be
*also stick as close to canon as possible for appearances. I don't want to see some blonde hair, blue eyed white dude in an Ancient China RP (no racism, just keep it realistic to not break meta).
*click here for the main RP once your OC has been approved with a cookie.

The Yellow River seawards flows.

[/div] [/div] [div class="bodytext"] - insightful and brilliant, though often needs to remind himself to hold his tongue to prevent words that ought not be spoken

- pretends to know less than he actually does (he doesn't fully understand why he must remain humble but does so grudgingly out of respect to his elders)

- as much as he tries to stay out of the limelight, his unexpected, sometimes brave though mostly reckless stunts, garner the attention of those around him

- boyish charm hints mischief and curiosity behind knowing smiles

- a smooth mouth garners him attention, but no one takes him seriously; sometimes not even himself.

- isn't above always being partial to the truth. (white lies and avoiding the truth comes easy).

- knows he's capable and deserving of greatness but also too filial to rebel against his elders.

- a respectful disciple who would grit his teeth at authority's injustice until he has enough.

- surprisingly vindictive and able to harbor things secretly in his heart; he takes out his revenge in petty schemes depending on how wronged he felt.

- the above trait goes both way, he repays evil with evil and good with good. grace does not go unforgotten. [/div] [/div] [div class="content detailsinfo hidecontent"] [div class="line" style="margin-top: 6px;"] [div class="lineheader"] xhistory . [/div] [/div] [div class="bodytext"] The son of an illegitimate child belonging to Jin Guangshan, however he lost his mother at a young age due to a clan dispute in which his mother's clan was entirely wiped out. His father, an illegitimate Jin son, begged the Jin clan to help him get revenge and it was in his revenge where he perished, leaving Heilan and his younger sister, Mingqian orphaned. It was by grace that the Jin clan found sympathy, taking the young child as a cultivator for the sect---an exploit for his talent and gift. When his background was discovered, Jin Guangyao took him under his wing, playing almost a fatherly role to the boy as he saw his own past in him.

This bond is only strengthened when Heilan began to develop a name for himself in the cultivating world as a child prodigy. Some going as far as to compare his wit with that of the famed Yiling Patriarch, Wei Wuxian. The spotlight never stayed for long, smothered by his jealous cousin's anger. Oppressed by the clan who hosts him, Heilan was frequently warned by well-intention others not to over shadow his cousin's (Jin Ling) place. At a tender young age, he has learned to suppress his ambitions in the face of authority.

Rebellious by nature, however, it is a struggle for him to not covet what he believes, he rightly deserves. [/div] [/div] [div class="content skillsinfo hidecontent"] [div class="line" style="margin-top: 6px;"] [div class="lineheader"] xrelationships . [/div] [/div] [div class="accentheader"] Nie Qinfen - [/div] [div class="indented"] Their first interaction had been forced upon Heilan as an act of courage (or bold recklessness). While internally scared to death, Heilan had forced himself upon Qinfen, only to learn that the male wasn't as bad as rumors (or his face) made him out to be. Considering his ability to befriend someone like Yifeng, Qinfen was just another one of Heilan's "conquests" in which he attempted to seek out a better understanding of the male to clear up his prior existing prejudices. He looks up to Qinfen for his skill though holds conflicting feelings at the male's unwillingness to stand out. He doesn't understand why Qinfen chooses to remain in the shadows when he could shine.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] Bai Yifeng - [/div] [div class="indented"] From what started out as a misunderstanding which led to mischievous acts in payback to the unwitting scoff given at their incidental meeting, soon grew into curiosity and personal entertainment. While Heilan views this stoic male as a friend, his affections are displayed in an uncanny way of pestering his poor Shixiong. He knows and cares more about him than one would think (considering Heilan's persistent harassment).

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] Lan Suxue - [/div] [div class="indented"] His Gusu Lan Dajie which he surprisingly respects quite a lot, considering her motherly nature. Suxue is one of the few people Heilan listens to and his favor of her was won over when she had graciously took his side in an argument when no one else would. It was thanks to Suxue that Heilan was able to speak his part, eventually exposing the messy situation as nothing more than a misunderstanding on both parties. (Normally he'd swallow his pride bitterly.)

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] Wu Qiuyu - [/div] [div class="indented"] An acquaintance Heilan has met at his visit to the Qinghe Nie Sect for Nie Mingjue's proper funeral. His impression of her stuck with him, granted how bright and bubbly she seemed at such a solemn event. Though the cultivator had sparked his interest, it wasn't the time or place for him to pursue his curiosity, thus Heilan had bookmarked her as an interesting Xiao Gu-niang of the Nie sect.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] Jiang Yingyue - [/div] [div class="indented"] Through association with Jin Ling, Heilan met Jiang Yingyue, bearing no ill feelings towards her until he saw that she was no different from the many Jin seniors who spoil and put Jin Ling on a pedestal. His distaste for her is kept secret, hidden behind apathetic politeness where he's neither too cold nor too warm towards the babe. While he could appreciate her beauty from afar, he has no plans to further acquaint himself with her than what's necessary. To say he loathed her would not be entirely inaccurate, but hate is a strong word and Heilan does not bear enough thoughts on Yingyue to come to it.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] Jin Ling - [/div] [div class="indented"] A hard pill to swallow; an estranged relationship at the constant cusp of falling into depravity. While it is bitter there is also sweet. The rivalry between them is weaved with boyish passion, pride and envy. Every time Jin Ling's head gets too big, Heilan is always there to pop his bubble. Their bond is deeper than one would think.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] Lan Sizhui - [/div] [div class="indented"] Respect goes without borders. If anyone were to match in words and wit, Sizhui would be the one. His courteous and straight ways are something Heilan looks to with admiration; albeit, he does pity the boy in having the meditate between the multiple fights caused by Jin Ling and Jingyi (and more oftentimes than not, his own).

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] Lan Jingyi - [/div] [div class="indented"] Someone Heilan enjoys teasing because his nature is easy to read and rile. While usually wary of Heilan, a bit of coaxing usually ushers the male into unintentional, troublesome interactions. It's a pity he doesn't learn from his mistakes. He's one of the many who Heilan ropes into his schemes and someone he would call a friend.

[/div] [/div] [div class="content extrainfo hidecontent"] [div class="line" style="margin-top: 6px;"] [div class="lineheader"] xtrivia . [/div] [/div] [div class="accentheader"] siblings [/div] [div class="indented"] Heilan has a younger sister named Jin Mi (Courtesy name Mingqian) whom he's protective about as she's his only family left.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] title [/div] [div class="indented"] The meaning of Heilan's title is the "Hope for a Rising Star/Prodigy." It's broken down as Wang (hope - 望); Xi (dawning - 熹); and Shen (god - 神).

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] mellifulous [/div] [div class="indented"] Heilan has a great voice especially when it comes to singing and humming tunes. Though he has potential in music but he's too damn lazy to learn an instrument.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] favorite food [/div] [div class="indented"] His favorite food are apples and roasted chestnuts, which don't make for a very solid meal.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] flight [/div] [div class="indented"] Heilan enjoys flying, which isn't a good thing discipline-wise. He's been lectured a lot on how his sword shouldn't be used as a tool for leisure and fun and got his ass kicked multiple times for it.

If he can't fly, riding is his next best option. Unfortunately, the horse he rides has a bad habit of munching on his hair.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] hunts [/div] [div class="indented"] Discounting nighthunts, Heilan isn't a fan of animal hunting. Contrary to his personality, he doesn't like having to personally kill the animals he eats.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] prodigy [/div] [div class="indented"] Despite his "best" attempts to remain out of the limelight, Heilan is a prodigy in cultivation and martial arts; fast reflexes and quick thinking only aid in his growth and unpredictability.

birthname - 巫 超 Wu Chao "To exceed"
courtesy name --- 巫 秋雨 Wu Qiuyu "Autumn rain, from the poem Sighs of Autumn p. 1 by Du Fu"
titles / alternate names ---

age 18
sect Qinghe Nie sect
weapon - 謝必安 Xie Bi'an "Those who make amends ("Xie") will always be at peace ("Bi'an")" x

appearance ---
A petite woman standing at the mere height of 5'0, weathered skin richened to the fire-gold glow of dawn by years out in the sun and hair fraying at the earthy edges. Her lithe figure is usually kept imperceivable in baggy clothes, patched several times over in the colours of the rainbow while cuts and grazes are left to scab in the open air. Cheeks always aflame with a tinge of hazel fay as proof of her youth and fawn-like eyes innocently blue like the sky.
persona
The culmination of all the wishful pennies thrown into wells and prayers made under the light of shooting stars. Qiuyu is a beacon of hope, unwavering and unafraid she seeks to forge a path that she deems just into the new world. With her head held high, she voices her beliefs steeled in the bottom of a childlike heart; bursting forth like fireworks in the depths of pessimism. Overly passionate and ambitious to the point of becoming eccentric she is a little more than just rough around the edges; Uninhibited by societies' standards and thus oblivious to the abstract rules of it. Clumsy when it comes to social cues and unyielding she can prove to be a little of a nuisance, her intentions never that of ill-will but easily perceived as insensitive.

She sees all the good in the wrongs, extending her hand to whoever asks for it without discrimination. She will carry your burdens, your sorrows, and anger as her own, never leaving you behind, never giving up. For her, every word carries a meaning, a promise of the ideal she strives to uphold.

Perhaps one day, she will accomplish making everyone feel loved, regardless of how much and from what backgrounds they stem from.

- Gullible but not stupid, she will know if you're trying to trick/lie to her if it's obvious. She just won't tell you.
- Unable to hold a grudge she's quick to forgive and forget, opting to see it from the perpetrator's point of view instead.
- Will ask anyone to fight her for the purpose of becoming stronger.
- All sunshine and smiles she usually find serious situations to be uncomfortable and awkward and thus tries to make it less so by being cheerful/carefree.
- Has a habit of referring to herself in a self-deprecating way and underplays her own accomplishments.
- Forgetful and has a tendency to go on long tangents when speaking as she doesn't really think before opening her mouth.

bio
An unlikely rising star of humble beginnings, originally being a mere farmer's girl from a remote primitive village. Youngest of five siblings, Qiuyu's childhood was one characterised by loneliness; often overlooked and seen as a burden due to having to feed one more mouth on an already suffering economy. As such, she would work extra hard to contribute to the family and her decision to become a cultivator was made in the midst of this; as her village suddenly one day was afflicted by cases of corpse poisoning, herself being one of the victims.

Immediately upon being cured she begged the cultivators assigned to help them to take her with them but was swiftly rejected, regarded to be unfit. Determined she didn't let this rejection sway her, instead going on to seek out the various clans before eventually being taken in by the Qinghe Nie sect after a gruesome trial; at first working as a servant on the compounds before being allowed to take part in the lessons in one way or another.

trivia
- illiterate, learned to read and write very late and still struggle.
- fond of anything shiny/beautiful much like a crow.
- dislikes the winter as it's usually the harshest time on the year for her family.
- always carrying needle and thread on her.
- skilled in string tricks as it used to be a hobby of hers in her younger years, the red string she used to practise on is nowadays used to bind her hair.
- her slender frame conceals a surprising strength, accumulated and honed sharp by hours of ardous training.
- Utilises an unorthodox mixture of swordsmanship and hand-to-hand combat in battle, both agile and hardhitting.

relations
Nie Huaisang -
"Huaisang-dage is a patient man with a special kind of sensibility for worldly matters. Very compassionate and most importantly, forgiving of this insignificant one's mistakes!".

Nie Qinfen -
"Shifu is extremely talented but a bit shy and more humble than one might imagine. That must be why he doesn't want to teach Qiuyu, but this houbei won't give up!".

Jin Heilan -
"A euphonious renxiong (she just naturally assumed him to be older than her) that Qiuyu had the pleasure of encountering on a solemn day."

Suxue's forgiving nature is easily her becoming and her tolerance for the wrong done to her is neither shameful nor carefree. Constantly waving things off, crediting it to her thick skin, it makes one wonder if words pierce through. Her ability to judge to severity of an insult or even a situation, can be brought to question given her nonchalant character.

Despite being fully capable of ignoring the wrongs done to her, fortunately Suxue is still noble enough to stand up for the weak and innocent.

Another unfortunate vice, is how sheltered she is. Despite her age, Suxue has little experience in night hunts due to her parents' over-protectiveness. While she is well-read, she is still learning how to apply her head knowledge to gain real life experience.

[div class=tag]virtues:[/div] Suxue is a gentle and sympathetic soul, noble in character and disciplined through the strict upbringing of the Lan Sect. Her soft demeanor makes her amiable to most, especially young children and small animals. She also tends to take on the big sister role among her peers, looking out for the well-being of her shidis and shimeis, despite needing their protection too when Suxue is verbally harassed by incessant pests.

[div class=tag]strengths:[/div] Out of the Six Arts, Suxue is best at music, particularly when it comes to the guqin or erhu. She enjoys playing music and finds ease in channeling spiritual power through song. She also has impeccable memory, which makes up for her lack of life skills.

[/div][/div] [div class="textcontainer tabsContent tabsContent3" style="display:none;"][div class=text] [div class=tag]history:[/div] A sheltered young miss who came from a rather well-off family. Her decision to become a cultivator was not entirely one of her own as her mother, despite having great wealth, had a weak body, which led her to have four miscarriages before Suxue's birth. She would have been number 5 if a traveling cultivator had not recognized the curse placed upon her mother, removing it and thus indirectly aiding the dangerous birth of Suxue.

Despite being a female, incapable of inheriting the family's fortune, her parents were delighted and treasured her greatly. Being an underweight baby, they brought her to the temples to be blessed and later decided to offer their daughter up to pursue a righteous path, as they felt it was only right. (Coughs, and totally not just because she was a female and with the curse no longer on Madam Su's body, her mother was able to make more heirs if needed).

Through their connections, they were able to get Suxue into the Gusu Lan Sect where she resided with her strict but loving Aunt and Uncle. She went obediently at the tender age of 6, understanding full well what she needed to do. Receiving love from both her parents and her uncle and aunt, occasionally, Suxue would visit her parents when she can.

Despite her age and her being raised away from them, her parents were still heavily insistent on sheltering Suxue until her Aunt and Uncle finally stepped in to defend her. It was only through them was she finally allowed to spread her wings. (*However, Suxue also learned to be very tolerant and hate confrontation / addressing trouble because of her Aunt and Uncle.)

[div class=tag]relationships:[/div]
  • jin heilan: This lively and spirited young man is one of Suxue's treasured juniors and like most people she comes across, she can't help but take on a sisterly role to the male. His playful personality is a light to her eyes though his antics could easily be misunderstood by others, which makes him one she easily worries about. Like many who knows Heilan personally, Suxue holds firmly to the belief that he's a good person.
  • bai yifeng: A relationship built upon a shared love for arts, Suxue values Yifeng's quiet company which seems to pair nicely with her own gentle demeanor. Their friendship is dynamic and ever changing. Sometimes seen as two parental figures in Gusu due to the children's favor, other times seen as a patient (and pitiful) teacher and disciple for music, and often still, as two irreplaceable friends. Suxue carries varied complex feelings towards Yifeng, especially when he had left the Lan Sect. The feeling of betrayal due to his abandonment is buried underneath wistful longing (to live like him, to explore the world) and years of wholesome friendship.
  • nie qinfen: Not one to judge on appearances or rumors, while others wilted at the sight of Nie Qinfen, Suxue had misunderstood his dark face as discomfort instead of resentment, and thus, went out of her way to ensure he had a comfortable stay during his time in Gusu Lan. While she could understand why people kept their distance from him, upon getting to know Qinfen better, Suxue found herself sympathizing with the him, eventually taking on a motherly role towards her senior as well. She does all she can to help him with his panic attacks and her gentle and understanding nature acts as a catalyst for Qinfen to leave with---greater ease---anxious situations.
  • jiang yingjue: A good friend which Suxue had formed when Yingyue studied in Gusu. Suxue enjoys Yingyue's company and values her insight. Because of their similar dispositions, they have an amiable bond with the two of them secretly admiring the other. Though respectable and refined, Yingyue seems to have an understanding of the vibrancy of life in ways Suxue has yet to fathom. She hopes to someday see the world as colorful as Yingyue does.
  • nie yixin: A treasured shimei who looks out for Suxue the way a shijie would. Suxue adores Yixin and finds her protective nature endearing, especially given the fact that Yixin is younger and seems to find difficulty getting along with members of the opposite sex. Suxue looks out for Yixin like one of her own Gusu siblings. While it isn't the healthiest method to deal with confrontation, Suxue knows she could rely on Yixin when it comes to matters of the sort.

With a stern visage seldom visited by a smile, garments as dark as the night, and ebony hair often loosely draped over one side of his face, Bai Yifeng cuts a grim figure even during the brightest hours of daylight. Coupled with expressions which range only from indifferent to bleak, as if counting down the days until his funeral, he is notably nothing short of difficult to approach. His posture and mannerisms which present themselves as disciplined in spite of his secular lifestyle do little to alleviate his aloof mein, instead resulting in many making the mistake that he’s older than a mere youth of nineteen years. [/div] [div class="line"] [div class="lineheader"] xpersonality . [/div] [/div] [div class="bodytext"] Like the dead of the night, the manner in which others perceive Bai Yifeng shifts between a spectrum ranging from tranquil to eerily silent. Expressing himself with a fleeting subtlety that is hardly ever understood, he is an individual whose words are polite and honest but lack the social decorum and expressiveness to appear more inviting. He makes for an image of serenity, perhaps, but an undermining frigidity keeps others at arm’s length.

Complimentary to his stoic demeanor, he is excessively fastidious, to the point where he regularly seeks to maintain a minimum distance of one meter between himself and others. Yet his solemnity concludes abruptly past the shallow waters of his outer persona. Astute when it matters yet equally as scatterbrained, the stoic Yifeng whose thoughts are seemingly difficult to read is oft found in a state where his supposed deep gaze remains indecipherable to those susceptible to thinking too hard about nothing. In truth, he is far from the intensely philosophical sort—choosing to idly observe the petals in the wind or the birds flying by. Moreso a worldly traveler than an esteemed cultivator, he takes pleasure in the simple things the world offers, such as chasing the fickle whispers in the wind and sating transient curiosities.

True to the nature of an individual living an errant life, Yifeng’s attitude takes a rebellious turn at the vaguest mention of “settling down.” Though well mannered and disciplined, he is whimsical at his core, being quick to ride the next wind the moment the desire or opportunity arises. Every step he takes is aimless and without a destination in mind, yet he continues to fulfil his role as a nameless passerby with a confidence often mistaken for him having some greater purpose in mind. That is, even when he is no more privy to what lies ahead as the next man, his spirit remains resolute and unwavering.

Incidentally, to the surprise of most of his acquaintances, he is rather well-liked by children to an odd degree. Though the man himself thinks little of it, when asked, he attributes their attachment to the myriad of stories he brings in tow. [/div] [/div] [div class="content detailsinfo hidecontent"] [div class="line" style="margin-top: 6px;"] [div class="lineheader"] xhistory . [/div] [/div] [div class="bodytext"] His first memory was neither the rich voice of a father nor the warm embrace of a mother. With connected hands gently swaying, a child barely old enough to walk and a woman dressed in white robes walked side by side down countless humble dirt paths. Each time he tilted his gaze up, the woman’s pale face was obscured by a bamboo hat and a thin veil. However, her voice as she refused to spoil him and instead urged him across every river and up every crag would forever ring as clear as a bell throughout his memories.

The things he knew about the woman could be counted on a single hand, yet the gifts she gave him were as innumerable as the stars. Forgoing her own name, she bestowed him with the name Bai Ren—a gift from his mother, she claimed. In turn, he referred to her simply as his master and teacher, accepting every lesson, no matter how grueling.

As abruptly as she had plucked him from a stray village, she was just as sudden to dump him into the lap of the Gusu Lan Sect. The man who was to be his guardian owed her a favor, she claimed. However, the murmurs he heard exchanged between the man and his teacher suggested a different story: “Your incessant begging has convinced me to bring him to you, but whether or not he stays is his decision,” she had said. But he never questioned her decision, just as he had in the past, which became a regret that festered over time. He wouldn’t plead with her not to abandon him, but, if he could meet her once again, he only wished to ask, “”

Over the four years he spent within the oppressive walls of the Lan Sect, he was quick to decipher the meaning behind his guardian’s longing gaze. It was an unsettling, mutual understanding which remained unspoken. He never called the man his father, nor did the man ever refer to him as his son. Thus, when he chose to up and leave, following in his old teacher’s footsteps as a rogue cultivator, the man sent him off without a word.

It was only two years later that he heard from the man again, this time with words he couldn’t ignore in tow:

In exchange for joining the search for the Yiling Patriarch, the man would provide him a hint on his teacher’s whereabouts. [/div] [/div] [div class="content skillsinfo hidecontent"] [div class="line" style="margin-top: 6px;"] [div class="lineheader"] xrelationships . [/div] [/div] [div class="accentheader"] ??? [/div] [div class="indented"] The teacher whose name he never knew. Her voice was kind, but her methods were harsh: she would rather he drown in a river than carry him to the other side. Despite her claims that she’d never spoil him, she was generous with her praise whenever he managed to crawl his way through whatever trial she handed him. Though he possesses no desire to attach himself to her side again, he wishes to see her one last time to ask a certain question before they part for good. [/div] [div class="accentheader"] Jin Heilan [/div] [div class="indented"] A subtle cringe and a step back is Yifeng’s traditional response to spotting the troublemaker drawing near. From accidentally bumping into him to chasing him around with a rabbit and its loose shed in hand, Heilan’s presence in Yifeng’s mind has gradually escalated from a passing nuisance to a terrorist. In spite of it all, Heilan’s company isn’t entirely unwelcome: he’d just prefer it if the youth kept a polite distance. [/div] [div class="accentheader"] Nie Qinfen [/div] [div class="indented"] When Yifeng and Qinfen are put together in the same room, the deathly silent tension causes many passersby to hold their breath in anticipation for sparks to fly. Their mutual scorn, however, is merely yet another set of misunderstandings. In actuality, the two are rather close due to their shared hobby of critiquing literature and making mindless observations. Unfortunately, their tacit understanding of the other via subtle gestures and gazes without the need for words is precisely what fuels the rumors behind their supposedly terrible relationship. » BASIC INFORMATION
Birthname:
聶 听 Nie Yin "whispering smile/to whisper a smile"

Courtesy name:
聶 繹心 Nie Yìxīn "to unravel the heart in a whisper"

Titles/Alternate names:
烏 慘劇
Wu Canju
Meaning: "Crow of Calamity"
烏 - crow
慘 - sad, pitiful, wretched; cruel
劇 - theatrical plays, opera, drama.

Age:
18

Sect:
Qinghe Nie sect

Sexuality:
Presumably heterosexual (but is she really...)

Weapon:
死囚 - Sǐqiú "prisoner that awaits execution / convict sentenced to death / someone on death row"

Appearance:
An unusually tall young lady of athletic build, lacking in curves and of a rectangular frame thus often mistaken for a man. Hawk-like in features, sharp and angular offering no softness her appearance reflects her personality; viridian eyes narrowed to judging slits under furrowed brows, complete with lips steeled in an unrelenting scowl.

» PERSONALITY;
Nie Yin is a shadow of a rose; having never blossomed due to the hands of fate plucking her budding petals. Accordingly, she was left only with thorns to flaunt and eventually came to be defined by them through the hardships of loneliness.

- Short-tempered and crass, Nie Yin spares no energy for pleasantries or manners; always straight to the point and cutthroat about it.
- Authoritarian in nature she is a born leader in every technical sense but falls short in communication and the more emotional parts of it.
- Her inability to handle emotions, both her own and those of others is probably her biggest weakness.
- Relies heavily on self-denial to function but has, in turn, become a ticking bomb that tends to explode at the most inappropriate moments.
- Holds everyone to the same high standards as she holds for herself, if you fail to live up to them you're useless.
- Only the powerful has the privilege of being able to make choices.
- Merciless on and off the battlefield.

» BIOGRAPHY;
As the child of esteemed cultivators and a member of the Nie family clan, although distant, Nie Yin was doomed or destined from birth to be subjected to the ideals and expectations of others; her fate as a cultivator sealed from her first breath.

With a mother, distrustful of everything, and an absent father Nie Yin would come to grow up behind the protective walls of the family estate; her schooling being initiated from home as well. As the only child as well as a carrier of the Nie name she was a subject of high expectations; failure not an option. Thus she would study and train from dusk till dawn, skin flaying off her hands and body battered blue at the end of it.

Upon reaching the age of nine she was to be let out into the world on the condition of completing a last trial, one that would almost rob her of her life before proceeding to the Qinghe Nie headquarters .

» RELATIONSHIPS;
Nie Huaisang
Disapproving but forced to heed, Nie Yin deems the cowardly man to be a stain on the name of Nie as well as Nie Mingjue's legacy and is very vocal about it. Despite this, the man has yet to reprimand her; even allowing her to go as far as to gain a small political following within the Nie sect. It is speculated that her family's connections have something to do with the leniency.

Lan Suxue -
A prized friend (although she wouldn't admit this at first) that she met and got acquainted with during her stay in the Cloud Recesses. Initially reserved, Yixin would come to falter for Suxue's natural ability to close the distance and keeps in touch with her to this day.

Lan Xichen - The eye only sees what the mind is prepared to comprehend.
Lan Xichen is the second person to peer through her words and actions and ultimately also someone whom she fears. His ability to see through her is a gift but also a constraint which keeps their relationship at a standstill upon the narrow line between hate and love. She opts to avoid him and when unable to do so she rejects him with silence.

Lan Sizhui - The righteous ways of good people confuse those who indulge in their desires.
The bond between Lan Sizhui and Nie Yin is one of fragile coexistence and unwillingness to probe the peace. Accordingly, she keeps herself at a distance and avoids needless engagement much akin to how she does with Lan Xichen. However, a grave difference in the two relationships is the seemingly mutual respect that they harbor for each other in the latter one (at least surface-wise).

Jin Ling - Your best friend is your worst foe.
Being two sides of the same coin; Jin Ling and Nie Yin are prone to fall in disfavor with each other and are always replacing one unresolved conflict with another. Their sharp tongues are equally quick to create and to respond to each other's bait and their joint stubbornness often lead to the conflicts having to be diverted by someone else. In worst case scenarios they have complete fallouts where they refuse to speak or even so much as look at each other.
Nie Yin hates his guts and arrogance in particular but recognizes their similarities. She just doesn't want to admit it.

» MISCELLANEOUS;
- gets motion sick easily and will go to any lengths to avoid all means of transport that isn't walking.
- insomniac.
- idolises Nie Mingjue and was distraught at the news of his passing behind her thick facade of indifference. Has since become even more irritable.
- noticeably more lenient towards females than males.
- stiff but powerful, Nie Yin utilises a very textbook-like fighting style in battle while relying on brute force to overpower her opponents.

「施代玉」sze daiyu
"what's wrong with a little drink?"

age: nineteen

gender: female

sect: yunmeng jiang

weapon:「猛虎」měng hǔ

BASIC INFORMATION:

alternate title: ???
appearance: A young woman who stands around 5’6” sporting an athletic build with long raven hair. Daiyu is characterized by her apathetic expression and lack of any other discernible emotion, her grey eyes being the only indication of life on her face. Porcelain skin riddled with scars from past experiences has left her susceptible to the harsh rays of the sun. Because of this, she does not leave without covering herself from head to do to minimize the damage to her body.

PERSONALITY:

Daiyu is a woman missing a few pieces. Her default expression is that of disinterest, a permanent frown that rarely twitches even when she is seemingly laughing. Making facial movement other than a frown is rather difficult for her, and because of this people often think of her an introvert. However, she is not introverted nor is a she shy as Daiyu is willing to entertain most conversations no matter how dull or flamboyant they may be. Due to her childhood trauma, she has a hard time expressing her emotions though that does not mean she does not have them. She can be rather blunt in phrasing her opinions which is either a blessing or a curse, she hasn't decided yet. Words do not come to her easily, so the ones that do often are the ones that tend to leave her mouth first.

Not easy to anger and having an oddly laid-back persona, Daiyu can be serious although she doesn't like to since it takes too much effort to get into that state of mind. The fact that she finds it too much work to act out such emotions as rage and sadness makes her seem extremely irrational and an unholy amounts of lazy, traits that she picked up from from her mentor. Daiyu is a simple woman who lives by her motto "Eat for today and sleep for tomorrow". Logic is lost on her train of thought half of the time, so people should not be to hung up on her words.

BIOGRAPHY:

A house built upon fragile foundations, crumbling walls of stone that bared their bodies to nature's whimsy, there she and her mother lived in secrecy. The two lived in seclusion, hidden away in the back alleyways of deceptive vendors and decrepit men who fashioned themselves to be scholars toppled by the lingering stench of impurity. They were poor, her mother seized by what could only be depraved spirits, for why else would she stay trapped within the confines of a dank house where her only true companions were the words she spoke to her daughter.

“ Do not tread on the main street for you will be stolen by bandits and sold as a slave to the wicked.”

“ Refrain from playing with the neighboring children for they will surely pick on you for your matted hair and dirtied clothes.”

“ You are very precious to me, worth more than the celestial bodies of the heavens and so I tell you these things to protect you.”

She repeated these as if they were a mantra, and to a young Daiyu, they were. She stayed where no one would see her. Having no friends outside of her mother there was no reason for her to leave, except at night when she scavenged the alleyways for discarded food scraps that she and her mother could dine on. Though these scraps were never enough to make a full belly, they somehow managed to survive, even if just for another day.

As one would expect, Daiyu had very little interactions with the people of the outside world. Of course she knew they existed for they made themselves known with their idle chatter and scandalous dealings, but never had she spoken a word to them. In fact, she never truly spoke much to her mother either who was constantly rambling on about the dangers of the world from her dirty mat. Due to this, her speech was severely halted. Words that came naturally to everyone else evaded her tongue, and her lack of any social relationships left her emotionally stunted. One would not even think of her to be human if she had not been graced with a human form, though even that was questionable for malnutrition and sores took to her like maggots on a carcass. She continued to live as a scavenger, loyal to only her mother and her instincts, though a life such as this could never sustain itself. Eventually, she would forego her mother’s words and find herself on sun filled roads in search of food.

Starvation was something she had grown accustomed to, to Daiyu it was as natural as breathing. So when did it become too much to bear? At some point, she began scrounging for food without thinking about her mother’s mantra. However, the day proved more brutal than the night as once emptied streets were heavily populated by men, women, and children. The sun that she had only felt through the cracks of her home now felt like daggers on her skin. The last thing she saw were a family of three just before she collapsed in the middle of the street. The child would have been dead were she left alone, but when she awoke she found herself accompanied by a burly man. He spoke in a jovial tone, seemingly unconcerned for her appearance, his words lost on one who didn’t understand them. Daiyu, too weak to move, continued to stay in his care though when she regained a little strength she attempted to return to her home, but to no avail. The man had stopped her at every turn. It was only until she could steadily walk on her own did he take her back to where he found her. However, when she returned home, there was no one to greet her as her mother laid with bloodied fingernails on the floor, hunger and madness having driven her to an early grave. Now she was alone, the house once filled with the crazed mumbles of her mother was gone, and in its place, a corpse.

The burly man who would later introduce himself as Sze Huang, though it was soon reduced to Hu since it was too hard for her to pronounce, took her under his wing for reasons that still remain a mystery to her to this day. They traveled together, him teaching her much of the world that she had grown afraid of while living with her mother. Through their journey, she grew to respect him, and Daiyu was beginning to look like a “decent kid” as he liked to say. Their travels would come to an end when they settled in the Yunmeng Jiang sect where she was eventually allowed become a disciple and has remained ever since.

OTHER:

TRIVIA
☾ Has a habit of staring into space while eating, and stealthily stealing food from her fellow companions if they are not careful. Has never once skipped or missed a meal.

✰ Does not tolerate those who waste food. One of the few things that can genuinely anger her.

☾ Despite her appearance, she has a great love for alcohol and can surprising hold her liquor pretty well for her size. One of the many traits she picked up from living with Sze Huang.

✰ She enjoys sleeping out in the forest as she finds it quite relaxing. When she's avoiding work or punishment she can often be found lounging about beneath a tree.

☾ Daiyu's last name was given to her by Huang as she did not know of her mother's family surname. First name means "black jade" while her courtesy name is "the sound of a refined jade"

✰ She learned to read and write under Huang, but as a result, has awful penmanship. Her strokes are as if someone tied a brush to a dogs tail and let it run wild. Although, that actually might bring about better result than allowing Daiyu to write.

☾ Has come to enjoy dancing as a hobby as it is one of the few ways she can physically express herself.

RELATIONSHIPS
Mother -
A woman of many secrets, Daiyu knew very little about the woman she called “mother”. Her first memory of her was characterized by the incessant need to confine Daiyu, protect her from imaginary assailant that skulked about every corner. There must have been one point where she was of sound mind, but that is not the woman she lived with. If it were not to tell her to remain by her side then there would be little exchange between the two. Despite their strained relationship and her mother’s dependence on her, Daiyu still feels a strong connection to her even after her passing.

Sze Huang -
Outside of her mother, he was the only other person she ever had a connection with as a child. An abrasive old man with little to no child rearing experience, he was very much like a father figure to her. The two, inexperienced with dealing with one another, had a great deal of problems while traveling together. He wasn’t the most reliable or the gentlest guardian, but he took her from poverty to the life of a vagabond and eventually to a cultivator. The two of them often converse about trivial things, and he acts as her moral compass when she has difficulties.

Jiang Wanyin -
He's someone to be avoided at all cost. A beast trapped in the body of a man, Jiang Wanyin is the epitomy of a walking disaster. Daiyu is not one who cares for status, appearance, or reputation as she doesn't find meaning in them. Because of this, she never truly invested in the Yunmeng Jiang way of teaching nor does she faithfully abide by their sect rule which has often led her into the clutches of Wayin. "Dangerous enemies will meet again in narrow streets". There is no better way for her to describe her encounters with the tyrant.

Jiang Yingyue -
A close friend, Yingyue holds a very special place in Daiyu's heart. The two have known each other for a long while, Yingyue having befriended her when she first entered the Yunmeng Jiang sect five years ago. She deeply respects and somewhat admires her strength, knowing the hardships her friends face being cousin of the tyrant Wanyin. Despite her laziness and laid back attitude, Yingyue managed to deal with her and even scolding her at times, a trait Daiyu is sure must be a trait of the Jiang bloodline.

A possessor of delicate beauty with a willowy figure. Visages could be traced since her youth that made her all the more lovable to those around her. Milky white complexion paired with dainty features made her strongly resemble the late Madam Yu Ziyuan, whom she’s related through her maternal line. However the serene smile that almost never leaves her face and gentle countenance that gives an air of maturity made her so alike with Jiang Yanli, inhibiting the best traits of the two women. Yingyue’s most striking feature is her peach blossom eyes, long and slender with the tails tilting slightly upwards which look like crescent moons whenever she laughs. She is usually dressed in the Jianmeng Sect’s purple robes and pieces of headwear and jewelry in a flower motif. [/div] [div class="line"] [div class="lineheader"] personality . [/div] [/div] [div class="bodytext"] A free spirit who is shacked down by the weight of her responsibilities and the expectations that people have for her. Although she would love nothing more than simply to enjoy the pleasures of life and laze around like a cat, her soft-hearted nature makes it difficult for her to reject other people’s requests. She has shown deep attachment to those she has grown to care about and is willing to do all she can for them, even at the expense of herself. Her strong resemblance to Jiang Yanli is no mere coincidence. She puts on a facade of being a demure and graceful lady and takes up responsibilities that she doesn’t want to be in charge of. She does everything with such efficiency that she became well-known for reliability and well regarded by those around her. Her own capability would be her undoing.

She always acts matters in ease and rarely would appear to be perturbed by anything. Easy-going and tolerant, Yingyue is slow to anger for when the smile on her face is wiped away she is nothing short of terrifying. Whenever disputes would occur, she would only watch over them until the last minute when her intervention becomes necessary. The true reason behind may be that she’s too lazy to deal with it.

She is steadfast in her convictions and no amount of persuasion would be able to convince her. Once she sets her mind to something, she does everything in order to see it through that she might lose herself in the process of it. She had been the type to acknowledge her mistakes but doesn’t repent on them. Yingyue’s defining trait is her intelligence. She has always been more perceptive than most since she was young. As she grew older, she became craftier and more cunning. She has mastered knowing when to advance and retreat according to the situation. Mostly for her to avoid getting caught and punished. Yingyue is willing to play to pig in order to eat the tiger. Far more prideful than she liked to admit, she’s unwilling to accept the fact that she’s not a true genius. Although she’s considered as one of the promising among their generation as they grew older, Yingyue had become painfully aware of the limits of her cultivation talent. A part of her may never be acquiesced to it that she secretly works hard in order to deal with her shortcomings in her cultivation since she isn’t used to letting down the people’s expectations of her. [/div][/div] [div class="content detailsinfo hidecontent"] [div class="line" style="margin-top: 6px;"] [div class="lineheader"] history . [/div] [/div] [div class="bodytext"] An apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. As an offspring of two capable cultivators, Yingyue’s life had basically been predetermined. She was destined to be a cultivator beyond her wishes and expectations already weighed down heavily in her small shoulders. As the niece of the Madam of Yunmeng Jiang Sect, she was granted the status of the Seventh Young Miss in Yunmeng Jiang Sect where she was raised. She grew up mostly spending her time with the Yunmeng Siblings while her parents would go on Night Hunts frequently. She was particularly fond of Wei Wuxian much to the dismay of her Aunt and even her Mother. She was mischievous and free-spirited. She would climb trees and do various activities that weren’t suited for females. Her curious nature and strong wish to imitate the older kids allowed her to join with them early in cultivating. This made them more lenient when it came to her and over-exaggerated their praise inflating her childish ego which in turn made idealistic visions for herself concerning her talent.

A major turning point of her life happened before she turned six. Her family went to Meishan Yu Sect in order for Yingyue to spend time with her maternal relatives, specifically her grandmother who missed her. They had left two weeks prior to the Massacre of the Lotus Pier and reunited with Jiang Fengmian and Yanli to join in their journey back home. However, they allowed them to go ahead since Yingyue was flower-viewing considering she didn’t have many opportunities to go out. It was when they had reached the dock, they learned what had happened. As proud members of their sect, they were willing to fight to death against the Qishen Wen Sect to seek out the remaining survivors and defend their sect. However, there was also their young daughter to think of. With a tearful goodbye that she was too young to understand, the two each had their roles to do. Her mother scooped up her small body as they fled to escape when Wen Chao had ordered them to start hunting down the remaining survivors.

Everything that had happened next was a blur to her. By the time they had reached back to Meishan Yu, her mother was in her last breath while she was covered in blood and eventually fainted from stress. When the news reached her that the Yunmeng siblings were still alive and planning on rebuilding Lotus Pier, she kicked off such a fuss to make them return back to her home. A tearful reunion had taken place, when the three took sight of her small body. She was perhaps the youngest survivor of what was left. While they held her, the concept of death finally became clear to her and she cried herself to sleep.

Since she came back, everyone around her never gave her a cause for worry. Although she was young- children have always been more perceptive to their surroundings more than adults realized. They left her in the dark, believing it was the best for her, prioritizing her safety especially. They all became orphans, but her young age made her especially pitiful. Wei Wuxian, who also lost parents at a young age, understood what she was going through. He was especially kind to her and would often lift her spirits whenever he was around.

Several things had kept happening, Jiang Yanli suddenly had gotten married and moved out. She only met the older girl once more after she had given birth. The two had a chat between girls where she made Yingyue promise to be a good jiejie to her didi. When Jiang Wanyin understood without Yanli around in Lotus Pier, there would be no one to pay good attention to her during these tumultuous times. He had no choice but to rely on their maternal relatives to take good care of his younger cousin and be assured of her safety. He had promised that he would pick her up to return home when things had calmed down. Only Yingyue had found it odd that he wasn’t together with Wei Wuxian as he usually was, when she brought this up to him, he only turned away with a dark face.

Yingyue waited patiently trusting his words. She diligently practiced her cultivation, looking forward to meeting the Yunmeng siblings once again and her new didi, as well. Wanyin came back to pick her up as he promised but she incessantly kept asking about Jiang Yanli and Wei Wuxian without knowing better. He eventually lashed at her, scaring the little girl. When he saw her face full of tears, he understood he was in the wrong and apologized quickly. He explained to her that Jiang Yanli left for the same place where her parents and his parents had gone. Then his face next could only be described as terrifying, explaining that it all had been Wei Wuxian’s fault and that she should never meet with him again. She stood there confused as he tightly clenched her small arms, unable to understand why her Wanyin-gege was painting Wuxian-gege as a bad guy. Her Wuxian-gege that always made her smile.

Under the careful eye of Jiang Wanyin, he was trying to remove all the characteristics that she resembled Wei Wuxian in to avoid her suffering from the same fate. Yingyue had a strong physical resemblance to both his late Mother and Sister, considering they were related, that he was especially protective of her and spoiled her frequently. He held double-standards to her, pushing her limits when it came to her cultivation so that she would be capable of defending herself in case of an emergency and yet he discouraged her from joining Night Hunts. The trauma of the deaths of his family, especially of his elder sister caused him to fear the possibility of her dying.

She was essentially placed in house-arrest, eventually entrusted by him to take care of the management of Yunmeng Jiang Sect to keep her busy, especially when he wasn’t around. Whenever Jin Ling would come over to Lotus Pier, she would be his playmate playing the role of his older sister. However, when the news of the Yiling Patriarch resurrecting reached her ears, it had brought back something that had been slumbering inside of her. Behind Jiang Wanyin’s back, she has been secretly collecting information of what had happened in the past when she was too young to understand. However, it seems Jiang Wanyin is one-step ahead of her, becoming even more overprotective and blocking her in every turn from meeting Wei Wuxian despite her wishes. [/div] [/div] [div class="content skillsinfo hidecontent"] [div class="line" style="margin-top: 6px;"] [div class="lineheader"] relationships . [/div] [/div] [div class="accentheader"] Jiang Wanyin - [/div] [div class="indented"] The two share a deep bond where words are unnecessary to express. The two are cousins but grew to have a relationship to that of siblings, their relationship deepened further after the first siege of the burial grounds. Yingyue is his close confidant in the sect and trusts her enough to leave her managing the matters of the sect. Although, she seems usually pliant and obedient towards him- the two share their own portion of arguments and disagreements due to difference in ideas and opinions especially regarding Wei Wuxian. This continued until on, until she realized it was much easier to pretend to be obedient on the surface until eventually she has grown used to acting that way even when he isn’t around. Jiang Wanyin is one of the factors why Yingyue’s outward personality resembles so closely to Jiang Yanli. Aside from those reasons above, it was also her way of comforting him.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] Jin Ling - [/div] [div class="indented"] Whenever Jin Ling would come over to Lotus Pier, Yingyue would serve as his playmate for him there and she would take good care of him like an older sister. The two have an amicable relationship. Yingyue adores him like a little brother spoiling him and helping lift his spirits up whenever Jiang Wanyin would harshly scold him. In turn, Jin Ling cares and respects her like an older sister. He would turn to her to seek maternal love. As long as Yingyue is the one speaking, aside from his uncles, he would begrudgingly listen to her obediently.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] Wei Wuxian - [/div] [div class="indented"] She has strong attachment, and perhaps even obsession towards the Yiling Patriarch. Despite everything that has been said about him, Yingyue is unable to believe the atrocities that he committed no matter how much Jiang Wanyin tries to convince her. The fact that she knew him way before he became the Yiling Patriarch and hasn’t seen what has happened played a big role in this. Though the memories that she had of him were hazy, her strong emotional attachment towards him could not be denied. Yingyue’s personality completely changes whenever the Yiling Patriarch is involved though she might not show it openly. She looks upon him through rose-colored lenses, a small remainder of what was left of her childhood. The news of his revival awakened something that had been slumbering inside of her. It is her strong desire to reunite with the person considered as an older brother figure and cares for deeply, believing he was innocent the entire time.

[/div] [div class="content extrainfo hidecontent"] [div class="line" style="margin-top: 6px;"] [div class="lineheader"] xtrivia . [/div] [/div] [div class="accentheader"] ambidextrous [/div] [div class="indented"] Yingyue is skillful when it comes to using her hands, a benefit when she’s capable of using both hands with almost equal ease. Yingyue can use a sword in either, although she has a preference of using her right hand. She doesn’t disclose this information normally as a hidden trump card. Since she has been aware of the limit of her cultivation talent, she has been pushing herself further into secretly practicing wielding dual swords. It hasn't been working out so far.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] cooking [/div] [div class="indented"] She initially started learning how to cook due to being unable to stomach some of the meals being served. The quality had gone down during the reconstruction of Yunmeng Sect. She eventually became one of the best cooks in their sect. She considers eating as an important pleasure in life and therefore must consume tasty food in order to function properly.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] title [/div] [div class="indented"] The meaning of behind her title can mean several things. It could be the expectations of other people had for her given shape. It could also be considered as a shackle for her by Jiang Wanyin to avoid going down the same path Wei Wuxian did.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] Sect Affairs [/div] [div class="indented"] As she grew older, the responsibilities that she had in the sect also grew bit by bit. Jiang Wanyin had hoped by keeping her busy, she would spend less and less time fooling around. The more she was exposed to the responsibilities her cousin had been carrying, she had wished to help ease the burden by helping take care of other matters for him (though she complains a lot inside). With her helping manage the sect, she also takes advantage of her power in order to secretly collect information on the Yiling Patriarch. Since Jiang Wanyin has gone missing, Yingyue is growing worried that she might die from overwork if he doesn’t come back soon. She’s temporarily been working as his substitute until he returns.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] Go [/div] [div class="indented"] Extremely skilled in the abstract tactical game. The true extent of her intelligence is portrayed in her skills when playing the game, proving she is a master tactician. She grew up playing the game against those older than her- cultivators far more experienced and powerful than her and absorbed everything she can from them. The way she plays is reflected in her fighting style- flexible, fluid and precise. She makes up what she lacks in strength with speed and agility.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] MiaoMiao [/div] [div class="indented"] A small black cat that she adopted. She has seen the stray on the side of the road while it had been raining, most likely had been a runt that was abandoned by its mother. Yingyue pitied the kitten and brought him home. She had to do so much convincing in order to persuade into keeping the kitten. She won and named it MiaoMiao- poor naming skills are apparently hereditary. Yingyue often contemplates with jealousy on how great a cat's life is.

[/div] [div class="accentheader"] Poor Sense of Direction [/div] [div class="indented"] Yingyue herself, doesn’t seem to be aware of it but she is directionally challenged. She has a poor sense of direction at all and is usually getting herself lost. Whenever someone would bring this up to her, she never takes them seriously. Even in Lotus Pier, where she grew up in, Yingyue would still find herself getting lost. She would always move towards the opposite direction, away from her actual destination which is a cause of worry for many. She can’t be trusted to lead since they’ll probably never get to their destination if she does.
