Greetings fellow Role-Players! I've been working on this idea for a little while, and wanted to post it to the forums to see what you, the community, think.


Obviously, I want to know if Role-Playing this sounds fun to you, but I also want to know how I did on setting this up. Is it easy to read? Is it boring to read? Did it make sense? Did the "computer style format" work for you or did it suck? (Honestly, I think it might've sucked, and you can totally tell me that! :D ) and finally, would this be better as a standard role-play or some form of dice game? I've DM'd for a group before, but have never attempted to create a concept like it from scratch.

This was initially meant to be a standard Role-Play but then as I progressed with the idea, adding classes, weapons, abilities, and ammunition types, the plot seemed to have a sense of balance that I thought might make a successful Dice game.


I don't know, what do you guys think?
 
Do you have any idea what system you want to use?


I'm finding the presentation something of a slog, but I'll get back to you when I work my way through it.

Like I said, I've DM'd before so I can see how this might be successful using a system of some sort.

But I was concerned that I had added too much "fluff" to the presentation. As in, I could have removed the "computer terminal" part altogether, and since reading it feels like a slog it might be better if I did that
 
I quite like the terminal part for flavour, at the start. You can probably safely keep that.


I'd say drop the memorandum. What you've done there is try to sell me on cool toys without contextualizing them adequately - convince me the plot is worth attention, then garnish it with cool toys. That said, I appreciate the obvious amount of thought and research that went into the Project Zero gear.


Strip back the president's message to the essentials, maybe lose the terminal look.


Hrm. Make sure the RP itself has plenty of details on the history of the Ozean-Halanbrad conflict, the cultural and political differences, their internal makeup, that kind of thing. I have very little idea of what these places are like, right now, but I'm reading The Ozean States as 'future USA as presented a 1980s anime'.


That is not necessarily a bad thing.


It sounds like you'll want a reasonably crunchy and versatile system for combat? It seems like you want something relatively gritty and combat-focused to me, anyway.


This would all make a neat concept for a third-person co-op videogame.

So you actually want to see the history of the two nations fleshed out more? I actually purposely omitted that because I thought people wouldn't care.


Additionally, I wrote the memorandum first because I thought people would definitely want to read about all the cool classes and "toys" lol. Man I'm all kinds of backwards!


So, for the system, I'm not looking to punish players by chance, like DND 5. I'm looking to punish players strictly for poor or non-descriptive role-play. For a very simple example: Warrior 1 walks out into the street. Mechanoid 1 spots Warrior and Fires his main cannon. A roll of 15 required to hit. Mechanoid rolls a 13. (+1 for players lack of tactical movement, +1 for player not anticipating combat) Mechanoid successfully hits. In the flip side of that, if the Mechanoid rolled a 15 and the Warrior role-played his movements effectively, I'd subtract from the Mech's role.


Civilians will have a vital part to play in combat/roleplay as well. Civilians have their advantages and disadvantages and this is determined by reputation. A player might choose to huddle all of his civilians in a corner and leave them so he can move about the battlefield more effectively, but this general lack of concern will lower the civilian's attitude toward the player. In addition, not taking the time to learn their names or build a relationship with them outside of combat will lower their attitude as well. Alternatively, if the player focuses heavily on building the relationship with his or her civilians, they might slow them down in combat, but might also motivate the civilians to help the player inside and outside of combat. For example: If your HP reaches zero the civilians may or may not risk their lives to revive you, depending on your reputation.


In combat, role-play will be restricted to actions/results. I'd provide a more descriptive list of each classes abilities and what "move" constitutes a full turn. I would also not enforce the 30 paces=1 turn. Each class will have preset stats that gradually increase as they are promoted.


Promotion: I would keep track of each player's XP and notify them when they have been promoted. Promotions will increase base stats and eventually unlock access to more advanced abilities. This list of abilities will not be very extensive, but will be well worth the unlock.


It's looking like this isn't as successful as I'd thought it would be, hahah. But I'll add a tab to expound upon the setting.

This was more or less me casting my idea into the figurative pond to see if I got any bites before investing more time and energy into it. Your feedback helped.
