Maya Kaufman

Pokemon aren't just tools.
Maya

Star Pokemon:
vulpix.gif

Kurama
FireIC_Big.png
Age: 16

Region of Origin: Kanto

Personality: Quiet and reserved, Maya's more likely to confide in her Pokemon instead of a person. She usually comes off as cold and cynical towards people and their intentions. Towards Pokemon, she's far more gentle, going out of her way to help one in need if she's able. Even if it means using her dwindling supplies. A Ranger she crossed paths with once told her she'd be a great addition to their forces, considering her tendency to put Pokemon first.

History: Born Aiko to Kanto's renowned Takahashi clan, Maya's far from a stranger to Pokemon. The Takahashi were among the few to tame the wild Ninetales in ancient times, its members having bred and trained them ever since. Their fame has waned in recent years, hardly producing so much as a gym leader, let alone region champion.

Byakko, a Ninetales who had been with the family for generations, took an unusual interest in her and the two quickly became inseparable. The clan suspected that she may be the key to restoring their reputation. Harsh training ensued as more members piled their expectations on the trainer to be.

The family soon all but disowned her, placing their hopes instead in her brother Kouta who was proving to be a genius. It had been made clear to her that she wasn't worthy of the clan's name. She was worthless to their dwindling numbers and reputation. In what may have been a rash decision, she grabbed what possessions she had, a vulpix egg, and stole off into the night. Leaving her name and Kanto behind her.

Byakko easily tracked her down, the old fox admonishing her for her recklessness, that she had put herself and the egg in danger. While not about to make Maya go back, the old Matriarch made it clear she wasn't leaving until the kit was old enough to hold its own. About a year passed until she was confident Maya and Kurama had a chance of surviving on their own. Overhearing a pair of trainers talking about heading to Vera Valle, Byakko nudged her young charges in that direction before leaving to return to Kanto.

Goal: Become the region's champion and prove her worth.

Cora Armstrong

Star Pokemon: Riolu

Ryder
Fighting
Age: 15
Region of Origin: Sinnoh, Veilstone City
Personality: Despite the confident demeanor Cora oozes off she has an unstable self-esteem. It isn't so much about her image that concerns her but rather the importance and/or standing she has in life. Currently she perceives herself to not have much significance but this thought process doesn't bode well with her. This leads to much internal conflict as she struggles to conceptualize who she is and what she desires out of life. Amidst all this she can be quick-witted, somewhat cold, and sassy. She has many insecurities that can get the best of her in times when she is left alone, but in the presence of company she portrays herself to be a strong, independent individual.

History: The Armstrong surname is well-known in Veilstone City, especially when it came to the gym there. While the family did not own the gym or had a lineage of relatives as the leader of the gym, they have set prominent records in the gym. This placed large footholds for Cora to fill. Which posed as a problem to the girl once she began reaching the age range for becoming a Pokemon trainer. The issue, she didn't want to become another Armstrong Pokemon fighter. And really through all the constant throat shoving, at the moment Cora is reconsidering the path of a Pokemon trainer.

Living in a city mostly isolated from other towns due to the rocky and mountainous areas, it was somewhat difficult for Cora to find anything else to occupy her from the reputation and responsibilities. Aside from that con, there was a plus to living in the rough terrain in that she can find solitude at times. With the landscape almost blending in together, it was hard for non-locals to navigate the area without any assistance. Fortunately for Cora she was a local of Veilstone City, so the girl was able to find the best perching spots on the mountainside.

The only other person, besides her parents, that Cora was able to tolerate and trust was her best friend Finn. Finn and Cora were next door neighbors who became the best of friends. They went to Pokemon School together, attended classes at the Veilstone Gym, and often went rock-climbing when the conditions were right. This friendship grew for some years until Finn entered into kickboxing tournaments in the gym. As much as Cora wanted to stay alongside him, she couldn't bring herself to. He was going down the path that her parents had shoved down her throat for years, and it was also the path she hated to take. So she distanced herself from him physically by reaching even higher heights on the mountainside. Upon reaching higher heights, Cora came across more skittish and/or mean Pokemon. One time she came across an angry Probopass. With no Pokemon or any tool to help her escape, she tried her best to fend against the Pokemon believing she was all alone. But then a small, brave Riolu intervened and scared away the Probopass. The determination and courage of the Fighting type Pokemon awed Cora so much that she wanted him to become her partner Pokemon. While it was easy to set the goal, it proved difficult to accomplish it.

Cora tried rare candies, Pokemon treats, and even traps to capture the Pokemon but all failed. It wasn't until she faced the Pokemon head on and proclaimed her goal to make him her partner. The Riolu was actually startled from the girl's confrontation and yelling, but it wasn't until she punched him when the deal was sealed. Although the Riolu didn't let that punch slide without throwing one of his own. It was a short but heartfelt scuffle that Cora and the Riolu got into, but in the end the girl was able to convey her feelings to the Pokemon and from there they have traveled and trained together to become strong and grown individuals.

Goal: The ultimate goal for Cora is to find their desire in the world. At the moment they feel that becoming stronger will help them find their purpose.

Ryder has great empathy for his trainer and does all he can to make her happy or do things that is best for her, even if this means waking her up early in the morning to train. Constantly on the go, Ryder can sometimes push himself too close to his limit so Cora serves as a great balance for him in that she knows when to stop him in his tracks. Ryder may fight with Cora at times when she tries to stop him, but in the end he usually submits to rest and ends up falling asleep on her lap most of the time. The Riolu is Cora's confident partner who will loyally stick to her side till the end and beyond.

Name Cherri
Type Grass
Age: 18 years old
Region of Origin: Kalos
Personality: A tall, stern and definitely grouchy looking Kalosian man with a attitude that definitely doesn't fit his rather rough exterior and definitely doesn't look his age... In truth he is a very caring man, one who is more than willing to feed anybody who joins him at the table, or a cooking fire.

He also has a complete utter weakness for cute pokemon, sadly his rough exterior can scare many of the less stout of heart pokemon, such is why he loves his little Cherri Berry so much. And... unexpectedly he is rather fond of cute nicknames for those he likes... Which can come as a large surprise for those not initiated in his oddity.

History: Adam's life before becoming a pokemon breeder was one of quiet pleasantry, despite his brutishly gruff exterior that might suggest more a more illicit lifestyle. He worked for a good few years as a cook in a bar in Lumiose City, one that was once the hidden enterance to a certain villainous group's headquarters was now a rather nice place to sit and grab a drink!

However, this life was not meant to be, for soon he would set off with his most trusty companion that he gained from a vacation in Alola. The story of how he gained Cherri is a long one, that he is more than willing to tell with those who share a table with him. But otherwise, hes typically protecting the little pokemon, attempting to keep it out of trouble...

When he can...

This was fun... But now I'm going to end this.
Ashley

Star Pokemon: Gastly
gastly.gif

Name: Gastly
Type: Ghost/Poison
Age: 13

Region of Origin: Sinnoh

Personality: If you had met Ashley when she was younger, you wouldn't get a lot from her initial impression other than "Wow, she's a bit weird." She didn't have any friends, always kept to herself and was annoyed if you talked to her or if she needed to be somewhere crowded for longer than she needed to. This was all a result of the lack of confidence she had in herself, and the fear she had of socializing. Now, she's a bit more mature: while she still tends to keep to herself and rarely ever starts a conversation, she's much more comfortable with herself. She can hold a conversation for more than 20 seconds and she can tolerate big, loud places. All this said and done however, she still much prefers to be in her own little corner unbothered and content. But she no longer has that fear of being approached by someone. She's grown, and is braver because of that. And that's all thanks to a certain purple-haired, purple-dressed French woman.

History: Ashley was born in Veilstone City in Sinnoh. Ever since she was little she was always a little bit different than the other kids. She was never one to socialize and big, crowded places were off-putting. She grew up in her own little bubble. People knew who she was, but they were too turned off by her nature to talk to her.
Her early life was as normal as it could be for someone like her. When she became older, she started displaying interest in the more unorthodox pokemons. While the others would go to the nearby routes to train their Machops, Meditites and whatnot to show off to Maylene, Ashley would frequently visit the Lost Tower. She never knew why, but something about the eerieness of that place attracted her. Some of the older folks would find her to be an odd girl, as most people as young as her would only go there to get the HM the old couple at the top of the tower offered and never come back. But Ashley... she enjoyed that place.
On a trip to Hearthome City with her mother, Ashley met Fantina. The girl was fascinated by the woman. The mastery over Ghost pokemon, the confidence she displayed, the friendly attitude she had, the conviction of being as good of a Contestant as she was a Gym Leader - those qualities all captivated Ashley. And it made her want to be her. This didn't go unnoticed by the French woman either; Fantina was intrigued by Ashley. Most people had a tabboo around the Ghost type in general, but the girl admired them. It didn't take long for Fantina to chip through the antisocial blockade Ashley had armed herself with, and for a while, she acted as a mentor to her.
Fantina helped Ashley grow in more ways she could imagine. Not only in understanding more about pokemon before she earned her first one, but as a person. She helped Ashley be more confident about herself, to expose herself to the world. Fantina gave Ashley the courage she needed to become a great trainer. In a way, she evolved (I can't believe I said that).
When Ashley had learned of Vera Valle, she was genuinely excited about it. She dreamed of all the new pokemon that could be there; especially the Ghost types. But her parents didn't share this sentiment. Her mother believed she still wasn't mature enough to go on her own adventure, let alone in a completely new and potentially dangerous region. Her father added to this, saying she didn't even have a pokemon that could keep her safe. Ashley told Fantina about this, eventually leaving that excitement to dissipate. But unbeknownst to her, Fantina had convinced them to let Ashley go. The next time the woman saw her, she was met with a hug that almost knocked her off her feet. Before Ashley left Sinnoh, Fantina gave her a task: to find as many Ghost pokemon she could, along with a gift: her very own Gastly.
It took a week before Ashley travelled to Vera Valle. In the meantime, she said her goodbyes to her parents, her mentor and trained her Gastly a bit. Now, Ashley is more excited than ever to get to Vera Valle and become a pokemon master.

Mr. Sizzles

Age: 16
Region of Origin: Kanto
Personality: Rufus is a laid back person, often taking things as they come, and not sweating the small stuff. He does seem to panick around cameras and police however. His chill nature is a bit of a problem in that he's often lazy and unmotivated. Getting him to actually get going is a bit of a problem, and morning's are his bane.

However, Rufus is extremely friendly and willing to help anyone or anything, trainer or pokemon. He might not know how to battle, but doesn't seem care as long as everyone has fun. Rufus is more than a little clueless as a trainer, never having actually had a pokemon or do any pokemon training, or pokemon school before. He does have an extraordinary ability to reach out to wild pokemon and befriend them, however. He knows many tricks such as how not to let a growlithe bite you, or how to tickle a Koffin, or how to make a whistle sound like a pokeflute. Even if he doesn't know a pokemon, he can generally find out how to make friends with it fairly quickly, and isn't one to let little things like being poisoned or flung into a tree stop him. He'll learn eventually.

He hates Beedrill though. They are just evil.

History: Growing up around Viridian Forest, Rufus often left to play with the pokemon there, and his parents told him to always be kind to them. He learned well, and got along with almost every critter he met, given enough time. Except for the beedrill in the forest. Still, he never showed any interest in being a trainer to his parents' disappointment. Hell, he didn't know WHAT he wanted to do. He didn't want to be a breeder, a merchant, gym leader, champion, or hardly a trainer. They gave him a chance to meet Professor Oak, and Rufus talked more about the Radio show than pokemon. He didn't hate them, he just didn't like the thought of owning one. Once he was given a whooper as a gift, he set it free in the stream. He figured if it wanted to be a partner, it'd stay with him. The pokemon just wandered off downstream.

However, his life changed immensely when he went on a shopping trip with his parents to Celadon city. His dad was feeding a serious gambling addiction enjoying himself, and his mother was shopping, which left him all alone. Not that was new. He went to the nearby woods to play with the pokemon. He heard a voice tell him its dangerous to enter tall grass, but quickly ignored it. He saw smoke in a distant patch, heard moaning, and went to investigate.

He found a wounded Slugma, which had been poisoned badly by a grimer. Acting quickly, he searched the area and found some Pecha berries to help with the poisoning. The Slugma graciously ate them, and quickly recovered. It affectionately licked Rufus and tried to rub against his leg, giving him 3rd-degree burns. Not that that would deter him, he'd been taught to be kind. He told Slugma to wait right there and left to the store to buy A) Some burn medication, B) Oven gloves. He was then able to pet the Slugma, and played with him all day. The slugma had found a new friend.

However, the day ended, and Rufus returned home. His life was uneventful for the next few days, but helped him decide on more of a career choice. He wanted to be a berry master as he managed to help a pokemon.

About a week later, a smoldering cloud outside Rufus's window signified a friend had arrived. Slugma had literally journeyed from Celadon to Viridian Forest just to track Rufus. Rufus had his first pokemon. He named it Mr. Sizzles. Mr. Sizzles was a great friend. A little oblivious, but a great friend. He took him for walks in the forest, and now had a way to get the beedrill to leave him alone.

About a month later, he suddenly run into the house, told his parents he was going on a journey, he was sure, no questions asked, and that he had to leave right now. Before his parents could get the full story out of Rufus he was gone. Later that night reports of a forest fire ravaging Viridian Forest aired on the news, and that the unknown arsonist was being hunted by authorities.

Goal: To NOT be famous, or caught on camera. Also, to learn more about the berries in the Veras Valle region.
Equipment

15 burn heals
3 Oran berries
2 Pairs of Oven Gloves
1 Fire Extinguisher

Personality & Notes: Innocent and friendly, Slugma doesn't seem to notice that it is literally made of lava. It likes attention and often tries to get people's attention. Slugma is often highly curious about whether random objects are edible or not. For a slugma, Mr. Sizzles is actually pretty fast, able to keep up with most people. Sadly this means he can keep up with most people.

Star Pokemon:

Cubone
Ground
Age: 13
Region of Origin: Sinnoh
Personality: Lime will hold a grudge until the end of time. Wrong her once, and she will never forget it until she feels you’ve made up for your sin. Despite holding grudges all the time, Lime makes an effort to be friendly to everyone she meets for the first time. She believes that having more friends makes her safer and more likely to become famous, especially in the new region. In truth, having more friends surrounding her makes Lime feel safer out on her own, because the life of a trainer is so intimidating and unknown. It takes a lot of self-reassurance for Lime to build up the courage to jump into something new, but with the assurance of others, she’ll dive into anything.

Lime is quick to give in to peer pressure, thinking that doing what someone wants will get her known faster. She rarely backs down from a dare, and would do dangerous things if it meant getting someone cool to like her. But if Lime doesn’t think you’re cool, or just outright dislikes you, she won’t take any shit from you! She doesn’t like being bossed around in the first place, so if she really dislikes you, don’t expect to see her to follow directions. Regain her trust, and Lime is sure to help anyone towards whatever goals one may have.

History: Lime is the youngest daughter of a small family in the Sinnoh region. Her parents and okder sister, however, originated from the Kalos region. Her father owned an enormous mining company, that had establishments in several other regions. Because of that, Lime was never faced with any sort of poverty. However, Lime’s father had grown up in poverty himself, having to work incredibly hard to get to where he is now. He believes that hardship builds character, and refused to let Lime and her older sister, Lemon, live a lavish lifestyle. As soon as Lime could run and talk, she was helping out her dad’s business. Sometimes she’d help him inspect a mine, other times she’d help him out in his office. It was the most boring time of Lime’s life, and she decided at a very young age never to let herself be cooped up in a building or in some cave her whole life. Lime wanted to be free, like a pokemon trainer, like Lemon. So when she wasn’t doing busy work for her father, Lime was out in nature pretending to be a pokemon trainer.

Lemon had gone against her father’s wishes and bacame a pokemon trainer, buildig up quite a name for herself in the Sinnoh. She was Lime’s hero, but her father always told her that Lemon was a failure, because being a trainer doesn’t feed a whole family. Lemon now travels the world on a spectacular journey, and Lime hopes to one day join her!

After a decade of begging, Lime eventually convinced her father to let her have a pokemon. He gave Lime a Cubone to watch over the girl while she helped him on the job in mines, or went off on her own in nature. The pokemon did his job well, often pulling the young girl back onto the correct path if she got distracted and wandered off too far. Cubone hated having to watch a kid though. It was... unfulfilling to say the least.

Lime’s mother told her about a new region pokemon trainers were going to head to soon. Lime was desperate to go, pleading with her parents to let her become a pokemon trainer. Their response was always a respunding ‘no’. She’d take over the company one day, and she couldn’t waste her time being a pokemon trainer. With that it mind, Lime came to a decision, with the help of a surprise letter from Lemon. It wasn’t long after she read the letter that Lime disappeared, first sneaking onto a train to the ege of the sinnoh, then onto a ship full of trainers bound for the new region. All the girl had were a few items. A shove, sime berries for Cubie, all of her meager savings, two pokeballs her older sister left behind, and her pink princess sleeping bag. Of course, she brought along Cubie, who was beyond shocked to find herself on a boat bound to some unknown land. Lime couldn’t understand what Cubie was saying, but Lime was sure Cubie was scolding her.

Goal: Lime wants to become an elite pokemon trainer like her older sister, not work for her father’s crummy mining company.

"I wonder where should I go today?"
Lena

Star Pokemon:
Starly.png~c200

Stark (Starly)
Normal/Flying
Age:
17

Region of Origin:
Canalave City, Sinnoh

Personality:
Cool headed and chill will describe her sufficiently to strangers. Lena takes things at her own pace and will rarely budge to do inconvenience matters by herself. This attitude makes it a bit difficult for her to warm up to other people, but she doesn't mind it. She has a neutral stance toward everyone, rarely disliking or liking anyone during the first and consecutive meetings. This has gained her a number of acquaintances but a small number of friends and enemies.

Of course, no one could feel neutral to everyone and everything. As stated earlier, her cool headed and chill persona will describe her sufficiently for strangers. For strangers. Not friends.

Lena has a particular dislike toward overly social people, curious adults, and those that gossips. Her neutral stance comes from the core of her value that privacy is the most sacred thing one can have and that it should not be treated lightly. When her privacy and secrets involved, Lena bears a sharp tongue with a short and quick temper. To put it into words, she will bear fang and claws to protect one belief that she holds on an altar in her heart. It is a side rarely known to people, as it often showed as a disinterest to others' personal activity.

History:
Raised in the city of Canalave, Lena was more familiar with the sea than forest. Ships and boats passed through the canals of the city every day, and she grew up going by and on them. Her parents were both engineer of a local shipyard, but even from when she was small, she held no interest toward it.

She had a relative in Sandgem City, and it was during a picnic one day, her parents brought Lena to Lake Verity. It was here she chanced upon a flock of Starly. The starlings were curious over their lunch, and Lena fed them crumbs. The sight of the starlings flocking frantically to eat made her happy for some reason. Growing near the sea, Wingulls and Pelippers were the birds that she knew of. The Starlies were a new sight for her. Lena continued to feed the Starlies with crumbs. And when she returned to Sandgem City, a single Starly followed her back.

That was show Lena got her first Pokemon.

As she grew older, she started to think of what her career should be in the future. She knew she wasn't good enough to be an engineer like her parents, and she liked cooking. Should she become a chef, she wonder to herself at the time. It was during one of the day where she was mindlessly watching the TV an idea came to her. The TV was showing a Beauty Contest for Pokemon, and one of the winner had said that to win, she fed her pokemon a lot of poffins. That was when she had a new career in mind: poffin chef.

When the discovery of a new region is announced, unusual for her, Lena leapt for the chance. New region. If she could bring something of value, maybe new berries or a list of sightseeing spot, she could raise her reputation and make her life easier as a poffin chef. With her partner Stark, Lena started her journey.

Goal: Explore the new region, find out more about berries to make better poffins, and take pictures of scenic spots.

"You'll never know if you don't try!"
Marcus

Star Pokemon: Growlithe
growlithe.png
Fire
Age: 19
Region of Origin: Lavaridge Town, Hoenn

Personality:
Marcus is incredibly headstrong, and more than willing to take on challenges or obstacles based on the assumption that he will be successful due to sheer willpower and desire alone. Such a perspective helps to keep him optimistic and a strong supporter of those facing their own difficulties. Unfortunately, this over-confidence does not always produce the hoped-for result and negative outcomes can leave him feeling heavily disappointed in himself and questioning his own decision-making. He is at his best when working to achieve a common goal, as he is happy to place the needs of others ahead of his own and will go to bat for his friends at a moment’s notice. He is quick to judge based on first impressions, and this can cause him to become unnecessarily callous towards those he believes plan to take advantage of others. He has formed a loving bond with his Growlithe, rarely going anywhere without his pet Pokemon, and the two are fiercely loyal to each other.

History:
Marcus grew up as the happy son of a local couple in Slateport City. His parents had been successful Pokemon trainers in their youth, and as they got older chose to settle in the large port city in order to remain close to the ships and traveling trainers. His mother worked as a researcher for the Yuan Corporation, mostly studying the habits of Water-type Pokemon, and his father plied the shore as a fisherman. In his earliest years Marcus was taught to love his parent’s remaining Pokemon and treat them with kindness. As he aged he would often take his mother’s Seal to the docks and attempt to race it out to the sandbar and back. He never won, but had fun nonetheless.

As Marcus neared his tenth birthday however, the family was met with unfortunate news. The Yuan Corp. was wrapping up funding for their current waves of research, including the work his mother was conducting. The research corporation did announce a possible option to keep her on-board that would allow her to continue researching Pokemon behaviors. They were currently in need of an expert to begin studying the natural behaviors of Fire-type Pokemon living on Mount Chimney. If she would agree to join their Mount Chimney team, then they would postpone filling the vacancy until her funding completed its final cycle and allow her to leap seamlessly into the new position. With few other options on such a short notice Marcus’ family accepted, and the coming month their family moved North to Lavaridge Town to be closer to the mountain slope. Marcus’ father took on a job as a miner and their family continued to live happily, if not in a slightly different manner. The small town saw a roughly similar rate of tourism as the larger Slateport had, due to the local Gym and the hot springs. Trainers would travel from across the region to battle Flannery, while relaxing at the springs brought a largely separate demographic to enjoy the town’s offerings.

Due to this change of locale Marcus’ interests slowly changed over the coming years from swimming Pokemon to the Fire-type Pokemon found locally. Many nights he would stay up to watch wandering wild Pokemon emerge from the mountain crags higher up the slope, excited to see them light up the dark with brief gouts of flame. He worked at the hot spring and the local hotel while in school, and this left little time for learning to train Pokemon like many of his classmates were engaged in. He was jealous of those students that were allowed to go out and battle on the weekends, as he sat instead sat the hotel desk or checked the heat at the hot springs.

One evening, fed up with the constant bragging of battle victories by another student at school, Marcus slipped out of the house and snuck up the shallow base of Mount Chimney. His mother had ordered a set of Pokeballs at the Pokemart earlier in the week, needing new balls for capturing and observing additional research subjects. As he picked his way up along the uneven rocky climb Marcus could feel the hard exterior of a stolen ball push against his hip. He felt guilty stealing one of the Pokeballs but was sure that if he could catch a wild Pokemon than he’d be able wipe the grins off the faces of those self-styled ‘master trainers’ at school. His climb took the young man up to a dark opening in the mountain face and after climbing into the cave Marcus was met by a swarm of Zubats. He shrugged and tossed the Pokeball at them, feeling confident that he couldn’t miss, but it was knocked harmlessly away. Almost immediately he regretted his decision, with the flying swarm pummeling him and driving the boy back towards the cliff edge. He quickly remembered that a trainer wasn’t supposed to fight without their own Pokemon, feeling stupid for having forgotten such a basic rule, and tried to shield his face with his arms.

Suddenly a roar bellowed through the cave and the Zubats began to turn as though looking for its source. This question was answered seconds later, as one of the small flying Pokemon was knocked to the ground under the weight of a small dog-like Pokemon. It shook its orange-crème colored fur, then roared again at the gathered Pokemon. It leapt around the cave entrance, bite on their wings and attempting to tackle them to the ground, until eventually the Zubats grew exasperated and flew off towards the night sky.

Marcus sat on the hard rocky ground, watching as his assailants flew away, and keeping an eye on the small fur-covered Pokemon. It licked its fur in a couple places, then turned to the young man and rolled its tongue out to pant happily. It gave the Pokemon the appearance of smiling. Before Marcus could stand up to leave, it leapt over to him and licked him on his face. He was surprised at first, then smiled and pet it behind its ears. It seemed to like this, rubbing against him and wagging its tail as he continued to pet it. After a moment it ran off to grab his Pokeball in its mouth, then dropped it on the ground at his feet while appearing to smile up at him. Thinking he understood the intention, Marcus threw the ball at the Pokemon and watched as it was absorbed into the ball’s energy. Shaken up by his encounter, but overall happy for it, he carefully made his way back down the mountain and to his house.

He received a heavy scolding for his actions, with his parent’s reprimanding him both for acting recklessly and for stealing the Pokeball from his mother’s package. Even so, they had to admit they were impressed with the outcome of his misguided escapade. After consulting her research, Marcus’ mother informed him that the Pokemon that had come to his rescue was a loyal and loving species of Pokemon called a Growlithe. It was small and playful, and when his mother tried certain commands it was unable to expel any flames, leading them to conclude that it must have hatched fairly recently.

His parents spoke some more, discussing Marcus’ plans for after graduation and the potential of being offered an internship position with the Yuan Corp. to work alongside his mother. While the idea intrigued him, Marcus told them he was more interested in capturing and training Pokemon than in researching them. After further discussion, his parents recommended that he visit the recently accessible region Vera Valle. Though it was rumored to be dangerous, they reasoned it couldn’t be any more dangerous than when they had traveled the roads of Hoenn with nothing but their own Pokemon years earlier. Marcus could use this opportunity to learn more about what he wanted to do while training his own Pokemon and growing stronger. Thus, a travel plan was set and upon graduation Marcus left his parents and Lavaridge Town behind to journey through a new strange region with his newfound friend Growlithe at his side.

Goal: Learn to become a successful Pokemon trainer, and perhaps after completing the Gym Leader Challenge become a Gym Leader himself!

A new region to explore? Sounds fun.
Andy Richter
Star Pokemon:
azurill.gif

Name Aquamarine
TypeNormal/Fairy
Age: 18
Region of Origin: (Where ya from?) Mahogany Town, Jotho
Personality:
Andy is eager to observe the world around him and somewhat inquisitive. That inquisitiveness has made him very bright in terms of knowledge of nature but has also led to an unhealthy sense of danger because of it. Due to still being young, he is still a little naive, which results in him falling for pranks, such as April Fools pranks. However, when this does happen, he will see it as a learning experience and, in fact occasionally going along with it knowing full well that it’s a prank for the sake of humor. One example of this comes from Ratattas or other prankster pokémon hiding his items all over Mahogany Town, the pokémon themselves belonging to other trainers. The scavenger hunts don't bother him as he sees the pokémon as being playful or silly. Andy has high morals and won't allow anything to happen to his friends, going out of his way to try and settle disputes between other locals, even though it's clearly none of his business, telling the truth whenever he does something wrong, or just being around for people that have had bad days. This does lead to him getting into some sticky situations, however, such as people ignoring Andy during a dispute, at which point he will leave them alone.

Andy will start out shy to any person or pokèmon but will gradually warm up to them as time goes on and strive above most things to keep his friends happy, beware he will run away from anyone that lashes out at him. Battle-wise Andy favors being more on the defensive side, envisioning pokémon battles to be more like chess matches rather than matches of power preferring to pick his opponents apart with strategy instead.

History:
Born into a quaint, moderately sized house in Mahogany Town Andy was an introvert at the start of his childhood, clinging mainly to his parents, Bob and Martha Richter for protection due to extreme shyness. This led to him being homeschooled and learning basic reading, writing, and math from them. The parents wanted him to make some friends with any other kids at their favorite spot, which also happens to be where the parents met, Corsola Cove, around Mt Mortar, dubbed that due to the abundance of Corsola present. However, if they tried to help him he would run away without saying a word with a very scared expression on his face, thus leading the local kids in Mahogany to label him an oddball.

This continued until age 6 during one routine day at Andy's now favorite area. He was busy making little designs in the sand, with his parents watching him while they were lounging around. That is until a Water Ball pokémon popped its head out of the water. The Azurill, as identified by Mr. and Mrs. Richter who still carried pokèdexes just in case, merrily bounced up to the trio with a squeak. This was Andy's first encounter with a pokémon so initially, he recoiled away from it. The Aqua Mouse Pokémon just waved its bouncy tail at him, smiled and squeaked once more which made Andy more cautious now more than afraid as he reached out to pet the Marill of which it took full comfort in. Bob and Martha saw this occur and became overjoyed that their bundle of nerves seemed to have taken a shine to a pokémon and potential new friend. After a whole day of play by Andy and his new found poké-friend, Azurill, the Richters got ready to return to Mahogany Town. Before they left, she squeaked again, waved using that tail of hers and walked back into the lake.

From then on, Andy slowly became more outgoing. By age 10 thanks to repeated visits to see Azurill, he was at least being more vocal with the Mahogany Town locals, unless it was the first time meeting a person, in that case, he would start out timid but warm up to him or her after a few minutes of conversation. Andy's homeschooling was going well too, he was learning Middle School levels of reading, writing, and math. Though he was homeschooling well, he wasn't as interested as much. His love of nature though never really diminished still wanting to go to places along Johto such as Corsola Cove, Ecruteak City, and Olivine City, as well as keeping an eye on his neighbors' potted plants.

During the year before his 16th birthday, Andy’s adventurous side started showing up. He would sneak out during the night to explore the areas around Mahogany; not going too much farther than that because he didn't want to worry his mom and dad, he was very respectful of them after all. He yearned to head to rest of the Johto region learning about the many cultures and pokémon present throughout with his own pokémon, little did he know they both were planning quite a surprise for him. On his 14th birthday, the parents let him have a chance at his own adventure, before all that though, was the usual happy birthday Andy followed by the birthday cake and presents which included a backpack, a shell bell, a flashlight as well as a very special, secret surprise that Andy's parents decided to keep secret from him, a certain blue mouse. The soon-to-be breeder was very excited about all the goodies till he remembered he still needed a pokémon. Suddenly, he heard a familiar sounding squeak. He lit up like a Blitzle charging up a Thunder attack. He picked up the Aqua Mouse and paraded around the house and hugged it followed by the parents for getting his first real friend. Andy became ecstatic, he now had everything he needed to start his adventure; with that, he bolted out the door with all the gifts and Aquamarine, an affectionate name for his first pokémon, in tow after one last goodbye hug from his parents.

To think this all started upon meeting a tiny little blue mouse.

Since that point, the pair were busy mainly exploring their home regions until the hype concerning Vera Valle hit them. This, of course, means new people, pokemon and a whole new region to explore...when they haven't even finished all of Jotho yet.

Goal: To explore the new area, eventually looking to become a Ranger or a Doctor for humans and pokemon.
Equipment
2 of the following: potion, burn heal, paralysis heal, ice heal, Antidote, and 5 pokeballs

Pokemon Roster:

    Name: Aquamarine
    Pokemon: Azurill
    Type: normal/fairy
Personality & Notes: This rodent is Andy's first pokemon and first real friend that wasn't his parents. The mouse being full of energy to experience the region with him. Where Andy lets things happen with other people he meets, she will rush up to most pokemon and introduce herself, excited at making new poke-friends. Usually seen bouncing along on either side of Andy, being a golden hearted mouse.

That is unless the pokemon is of the poison typing, in which she is deathly scared of them, not just the weakness factor either. During a trip through Route 42 when both had just begun their journey together, they ran into probably the worst pokemon one could encounter on that route, a Golbat. While he knew after a scan of the pokemon that they didn't have a chance, the bat saw her as more of a snack, able to bite into her with its poisonous fangs. Least Bob and Martha were able to help out with an Arcanine and a Ninetales between them. Needless to say, it was off to the pokemon center to heal her back up. The mouse now has a quirk where she shudders at the sight of poisons in general, other types don't bother her at all unless they show poison moves in battle, then its back to treating them as if they are a poison type pokemon.
