Fandom Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: War Of Zodarus

Riolux

Umbreon? More like DUMBreon!
So here's my interest check for a reboot of an old RP of mine. I included the plot to show exactly what one will be getting into when they join and I hope this piques the interests of those who enjoy Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

Plot>

For several millennium, The Legendary Pokemon of Zodarus has lived in relative peace under the leadership of the Alpha Pokemon, Arceus, who was the proverbial glue that kept together Pokemon that would otherwise hate each other. With power and wisdom, Arceus kept the Legendary Pokemon in line, preventing any large-scale conflict from arising. However, things have changed. Arceus has gone missing. After months of awaiting any news from the Alpha Pokemon, some of the Legendary Pokemon have started plans to make a grab for power, either wanting to rule, or to rule so that those they deem irresponsible cannot. However despite their haste to grab power, they realize a folly. An all-out battle between all of the participating Legendary Pokemon would cause the end of the world in its entirety. Therefore, wishing to keep this battle from bringing upon an apocalypse on those they wish to rule, they have brought those from another dimension, Humans, and have turned them into Pokemon, bound to their service with the reward being that they have the option to return home along with the return of their memories. The once-human Pokemon are usually selected for their personality and views on life or history. However, there are four who believe that Arceus is testing them and have chosen a small group of Humans to aid them in keeping the balance.

Factions>

Below are the Legendary Pokemon involved in the conflict. NOTE: Not ALL Legendary Pokemon are involved in the conflict as it would be very difficult to involve all of them and some are obviously outclassed in the struggle.

Cresselia

Sought after traits: Those who follow Cresselia are generally kind-hearted.

Allegiance: Followers of Cresselia work well  with Pokemon aligned with other Legendary Pokemon generally considered "good" such as those who follow Xerneas or Reshiram. They are never allowed to work with Servants of Darkrai and can only work with Pokemon like Yveltal and Zekrom if absolutely necessary. Followers of Cresselia are required to either redeem Servants of Darkrai or destroy them.

Gifted Trait: Those who follow Cresselia gain the ability to soothe those in great pain and relieve those who have been afflicted by fear, especially fear caused by the nightmares induced by Servants of Darkrai. They themselves are immune to the Nightmare ability used by the Servants of Darkrai and have a slightly higher Special Defense then usual.

Dogma: Work to bring the light of the Full Moon to those shrouded in the darkness of fear and despair, casting away the trappings of nightmares. Always look to the lighter side of things. Beware those who resemble Darkrai, for his Servants are everywhere, aiming to poison the hearts of Pokemon with treacherous lies and lock those they can't in unending Nightmares. It is our mission to stop them either through redemption or death.

Public Reception: Followers of Cresselia are generally well-received by the general populace as they are good-natured and helpful. They are, however, watched closely if law enforcement knows of a Servant of Darkrai in the area and law enforcement will make an active effort to keep their presence from each other to avoid bloodshed.

Darkrai

Sought After Traits: Servants of Darkrai are usually outcasts in society.

Allegiance: Servants of Darkrai are usually acting as freelance agents, working for nearly anyone for money, valuable knowledge, or other named prices. They rarely work for Servants of Yveltal, however, due to the similar colorings causing the Servants of Yveltal, who have all killed either for a cause or for the sake of it, to give Servants of Darkrai a bad reputation as well due to Servants of Darkrai being mistaken for Yveltal's Servants. Servants of Darkrai never work with Followers of Cresselia due to the Followers' aggressive and judgmental stance towards them.

Gifted Traits: Servants of Darkrai gain a slight boost in special attack and gain a slight resistance to Psychic-Type Moves. They also are completely immune to have their minds read against their will though they can be tortured to willingly let one read their minds. Servants of Darkrai also have the ability to lock those in a deep sleep in a Nightmare. This ability requires a lot of thinking, however, as doing so will lock them within a Nightmare until a Follower of Cresselia wakes them from it and the victim's body is exposed unless found. It is also possible for a victim to starve. However due to the popularity and commodity of Cresselia's Followers, these deaths aren't as common as they could be.

Dogma: Work from the shadows to ensure your victory. While you work for everyone, you gain power and influence, watching and waiting to strike out at those who trust you, who think themselves superior simply for hiring you. You are all the embodiment of the darkness I spread and the world will see the importance of the Darkness of the New Moon.

Public Reception: Servants of Darkrai are feared and hated by any normal Pokemon, only being allowed to enter towns out of fear of violence. Some of this fear stems from their ability to lock Pokemon in Nightmares, but most of it actually stems from the acts of Servants of Yveltal, who have similar coloring and some even actively claim allegiance to Darkrai in order to throw them off their trail.

Xerneas

Sought After Traits: People summoned by Xerneas are generally those who understand and value life and are capable or willing to care for the ill and heal wounds.

Allegiance: Followers of Xerneas generally get along well with Followers of "good" Legendary Pokemon and are generally against working with Servants though can be coerced more easily into doing so as long as no one dies in the process or if it's against followers of Yveltal, whom they refuse to work with. To the surprise of many, Followers of Xerneas show great support, and in return are supported by, Servants of Zekrom, as Servants of Zekrom respect the idea that all life is sacred over the truth that, in the end, death is the final result.

Gifted Traits: All Followers of Xerneas have the ability to heal wounds. The severity of which they can heal depends on how strong they've grown and usually directly relates to Special Attack. Followers of Xerneas are immune to most disease though the most severe ones can still afflict them. After a certain point, a Follower can learn the move, Heal Pulse, regardless of Species.

Dogma: Cherish all life and nurture it as if it were your own. Tend to the ill, heal the wounded, and put at ease those who cannot be saved for to let them suffer is equally as bad as you committing the act yourself. Practice your craft whenever possible and never charge for the privilege of helping those in need of critical aid. In doing all of this, we combat the waves of Death created by Yveltal and his Servants.

Public Reception: Xerneas' Followers are widely accepted due to their medical abilities and are usually given donations regardless of whether or not they want to accept them. Unlike Followers of Cresselia, Followers of Xerneas are not bound by dogma to battle Servants of Yveltal and are unlikely to fight them in town unless to stop an attack by them.

Yveltal

Sought After Traits: Servants of Yveltal have killed either for a cause, for reward, or for pleasure.

Allegiance: Despite serving Yveltal, most Servants of Yveltal are not fanatics, selling their expertise to the highest bidder. This applies to any Follower or Servant though Followers of Xerneas are to be killed on sight if seen out of towns and Servants of Darkrai rarely hire Servants of Yveltal due to them being blamed for some of the Servants of Yveltal's killings. Surprisingly, Servants of Yveltal are most accepted by Followers of Reshiram, who accept the truth that Death comes for all.

Gifted Traits: Servants of Yveltal have the ability to drain the life energy from a Pokemon they make contact with. If the contact remains for long enough, it can kill them. It's commonly employed as an interrogation method or when used by the most sadistic Servants, an execution method. The subject of this drain can regain energy through rest. The ability causes the victim pain until contact has ended or the victim has perished. NOTE: It takes a long time for the victim to perish unless they are already heavily wounded.

Dogma: Death is, and always will be, the end result. There is no other ending. Not for you, not for me, and not for your enemies. You can only delay this and this can only be done by victory over your enemies.

Public Reception: Most towns dread the arrival of a Servant of Yveltal though most of this fear is the fear of being on the Servant's hit list. Some towns, who have suffered from an all-out assault by a Fanatic of Yveltal have banned their presence altogether. Others have been wiped off the map.

Reshiram

Sought after traits: Knowledgeable individuals that pursue the truth.

Allegiance: Followers of Reshiram pursue a higher truth, specifically, the truth that Reshiram, in the end, is the most suitable ruler of the world and Legendary Pokemon as what he sides with must be true. Despite this, Followers of Reshiram are willing to work with nearly any Follower or Servant, though they believe that Followers of Xerneas and Servants of Zekrom are deluding themselves.

Gifted Traits: Followers of Reshiram are extremely perceptive and difficult to lie to. They also have some resistance to Fire-Type moves and, once strong enough, can see through illusions and lies, including disguises. Pokemon with this gift is often sought after by law enforcement to clear up cases quickly, especially in cases where a Servant of Darkrai is mistaken for a Servant of Yveltal and vice versa.

Dogma: Always fight for the Truth for that is all that is certain. Facts are dominant over opinions and one should never be afraid to point it out. Never speak in falsehoods save to keep something safe from those that would destroy it.

Public Reception: Followers of Reshiram are widely accepted due to their honest nature and are especially well received by law enforcement due to their skill in discovering the truth of the matter quickly, solving cases that would otherwise stump a normal Pokemon.

Zekrom

Sought after traits: Those who stand by their ideas.

Allegiance: Servants of Zekrom are generally accepting of any Servant or Follower and are even some of the only Pokemon that are asked by Chosen for assistance. Though they get along poorly with Reshiram's Followers and Yveltal's Servants, they aren't in any open conflict with another Legendary Faction.

Gifted Traits: Servants of Zekrom gain a slight resistance to electric-type moves as well as being able to inspire nearby allies, increasing their stamina and fighting spirit through an inspirational aura. Due to their devotion, Servants of Zekrom can ignore pain for a small period of time, even life-threatening wounds though the wounds will take effect once the adrenaline has expired.

Dogma: World is formed by ideas both good and bad. There are many truths for each is one's one idea of it and to refuse that is to be ignorant. Ideas inspire many goods, such as love, joy, and happiness, and evils, such as hatred, anger, and fear. Be a beacon of hope to your allies, and inspire fear in your enemies through your devotion to your cause.

Public Reception: Servants of Zekrom generally have no standing in towns, neither being hated nor loved more then anyone else though they are highly respected by Rescue and Exploration Guilds due to their natural leadership ability, which can deeply inspire apprentices.

Kyogre

Sought after traits: Kyogre generally does not search for any particular trait, making it possible for anyone to be recruited. This is generally held in disfavor among other Legendary Pokemon save for Groudon, who employs the same tactic.

Allegiance: Followers of Kyogre, despite being held in disdain by the Legendary Pokemon themselves, are generally accepted by any and all Servants due to their diversity of personality traits, making it possible for them to fit in anywhere.

Gifted Traits: Followers of Kyogre are usually, out of favoritism, made into water-types, but those who are made into other types (usually due to Soul Snatching, which will be explained later) gain the ability to breathe underwater for long periods of time. All of Kyogre's Followers ignore water pressure, allowing them to descend into the depths of the ocean, which is a popular tactic for water-type followers seeking to establish a safe house. All followers have access to the move Rain Dance.

Dogma: Water is the source of all life. Water-Types are the most common and most superior. It is for this reason that I command you to serve me. Make all of the friends you want, but in the end, you will answer to me. For once the ocean covers all, the world will truly be a utopia!

Public Reception: Followers of Kyogre are greatly respected among farming communities especially during a dry spell and can instantly gain popularity and a following if they are charitable to the inhabitants. Followers of Kyogre are even seen as a blessing to a land tormented by droughts. Due to this, Followers of Kyogre, despite Kyogre's dogma, are generally well loved on the mainland.

Groudon

Sought after traits: Groudon generally does not search for any particular trait, making it possible for anyone to be recruited. This is generally held in disfavor among other Legendary Pokemon save for

Kyogre, who employs the same tactic.

Allegiance: Servants of Groudon, despite being held in disdain by the Legendary Pokemon themselves, are generally accepted by any and all Servants due to their diversity of personality traits, making it possible for them to fit in anywhere. Some even get along with Followers of Kyogre despite the strict policy from both Legendary Pokemon.

Gifted Traits: Most Pokemon recruited by Groudon are Fire and Ground-Types though other types can be selected if the Human is Soul Snatched from another Legendary Pokemon. Servants of Groudon have heat-immunity and limited resistance to natural fire which is any flame not caused the a Pokemon move, though fires left over after the move is used can remain a threat. Servants of Groudon are immune to the Burn Status Ailment and can use Sunny Day no matter what their type is.

Dogma: To preserve the land and it's inhabitants is our ultimate goal, while water must exist to survive, the salt-filled sea is useless to those who call the land our home, and is a blight upon our planet. At all costs, we must rid ourselves of it. Befriend who you will, but in the end, it's my will you shall bend to.

Public Reception: Despite being pledged to Groudon, Servants of Groudon actually are fairly easy to find out on the ocean, as ships pay a large amount of money to ensure that the ship isn't sunk by a storm, and the Servant's abilities make him welcome in a fight as well, making service on ships an easy way to earn a good reputation.

The following Pokemon selects Chosen to do their bidding. Chosen are rare and each Legendary Pokemon rarely have more than one or two active at any time. Chosen rarely work with Servants or Followers and primarily focus on working with other Chosen. Chosen do not follow a Dogma and are there to keep the balance to prevent one faction from gaining too much power. Due to their rarity, Chosen are generally very powerful and have amazing Gifted Traits.

Giratina

Sought After Traits: Giratina, like the other 3 balance-seeking Pokemon, seek those pure of heart and loyal to serve him.

Allegiance: Chosen of Giratina are rarely allowed to work with a Servant or Follower unless their interests line up and even then, they do so on the pretense that they are in charge and to act out of line is to break the deal. True cooperation with Servants and Followers is rarely seen, but they are more then willing to work with other Chosen should the opportunity present itself.

Gifted Traits: Chosen of Giratina are treated as Ghost-Types concerning immunity to Fighting-Type and Normal-Type moves and gain weaknesses, resistances, and immunities based on their actual types. Chosen of Giratina also has the ability to phase into an ethereal form, allowing them to walk through objects as if they are not there. They are unable to attack, however, and are vulnerable to Ghost-Type moves. This effect lasts 15 minutes and afterward, the Chosen must wait a day to be able to use it again.

Dogma: N/A

Public Reception: Chosen of Giratina rarely enter a town and, when they do, they do so only to grab supplies and leave.

Rayquaza

Sought after Traits: Rayquaza, like the other 3 balance-seeking Pokemon, seek those pure of heart and loyal to serve him.

Allegiance: Chosen of Rayquaza are rarely allowed to work with a Servant or Follower unless their interests line up and even then, they do so on the pretense that they are in charge and to act out of line is to break the deal. True cooperation with Servants and Followers is rarely seen, but they are more then willing to work with other Chosen should the opportunity present itself.

Gifted Traits: Chosen of Rayquaza are considered Dragon-Types in terms of resistance to other types. Their weaknesses, resistances, and immunities are based on their base type as well. All Chosen of Rayquaza has the ability to halt to effects of weather on them, though not dispel the weather itself or it's effects on the Chosen's surroundings. Chosen of Rayquaza are capable of 15 minutes of flight, but are vulnerable in this state and cannot move higher than 60' in the air. This can be worked around if the Chosen lands on a nearby surface and begins to fly again. If they do not land before the effect expires, they will fall. After using this, the Chosen of Rayquaza must wait a day before using it again.

Dogma: N/A

Public Reception: Chosen of Rayquaza rarely enter a town and, when they do, they do so only to grab supplies and leave.

Heatran

Sought After Traits: Heatran, like the other 3 balance-seeking Pokemon, seek those pure of heart and loyal to serve him.

Allegiance: Chosen of Heatran are rarely allowed to work with a Servant or Follower unless their interests line up and even then, they do so on the pretense that they are in charge and to act out of line is to break the deal. True cooperation with Servants and Followers is rarely seen, but they are more then willing to work with other Chosen should the opportunity present itself.

Gifted Traits: Chosen of Heatran are considered Fire and Steel-Types in terms of Resistance, however, do not retain the immunity to Poison unless their base type is steel or poison. Chosen of Heatran has complete immunity to heat and natural fire. For 15 minutes a day, they can coat themselves in a flexible steel, making them nearly impervious. However, in this form they are unable to run quickly and after the effects wear off, they are left exhausted.

Dogma: N/A

Public Reception: Chosen of Heatran rarely enter a town and, when they do, they do so only to grab supplies and leave.

Kyurem

Sought After Traits: Kyurem, like the other 3 balance-seeking Pokemon, seek those pure of heart and loyal to serve him.

Allegiances: Chosen of Kyurem are rarely allowed to work with a Servant or Follower unless their interests line up and even then, they do so on the pretense that they are in charge and to act out of line is to break the deal. True cooperation with Servants and Followers is rarely seen, but they are more then willing to work with other Chosen should the opportunity present itself.

Gifted Traits: Chosen of Kyurem are treated as Ice-Dragon Types in terms of resistances. Their weakness, resistances, and immunities depend on their base type, but they have a slight vulnerability to Fire. Chosen of Kyurem has immunity to severely  cold temperatures. For a duration of 15 minutes, a Chosen of Kyurem can generate a blizzard in a radius of 20' that, if dwelled in for 10 minutes, can prove fatal to all but the user. Only the Chosen of Kyurem has perfect vision in the Blizzard, but, as this is draining, usually uses it as a smokescreen to flee. Chosen of Kyurem can only use once a day.

Dogma: N/A

Public Reception: Chosen of Kyurem rarely enter a town and, when they do, they do so only to grab supplies and leave.

Zygarde

Sought After Traits: Zygarde seeks those pure of heart and loyal to serve him.

Allegiances: Chosen of Zygarde are rarely allowed to work with a Servant or Follower unless their interests line up and even then, they do so on the pretense that they are in charge and to act out of line is to break the deal. True cooperation with Servants and Followers is rarely seen, but they are more then willing to work with other Chosen should the opportunity present itself.

Gifted Traits: Chosen of Zygarde are treated as Dragon-Ground Types in terms of resistances. Their weakness, resistances, and immunities depend on their base type, but they have a slight vulnerability to Ice-Type moves. (WIP)

Details>

The Roleplay will take place as you controlling a Servant or a Follower at the beginning of a Legendary Pokemon of your choosing. It is highly suggested that you read up on the details of the Legendary Pokemon to be certain of what you want to follow because, while Faction changes are possible they are incredibly difficult. It will also result in you becoming a traitor to the faction you left, making you a priority target so if you do think about leaving, make sure to think deeply on it both In-Character and Out-Of-Character as it can completely shift how your character is viewed In-Character.

Another detail to know is that this takes place in the same world as Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, and Gates To Infinity. This means locations  like Treasure Town, Pokemon Square, and Post Town exist and can be visited.

Vocabulary>

This tab is to help define some of the terms I use in the Factions list as to avoid confusion.

Chosen- Pokemon who follow the Legendary Pokemon seeking to bring balance out of the belief that Arceus will return. Chosen are usually more powerful than a Servant and Follower, but much more rare as well. Due to their unique nature, the Chosen are usually in much closer contact with their Legendary Pokemon that Servants or Followers.

Follower- Pokemon who follow "good" Legendary Pokemon or those that uphold moral principles or things generally seen as good.

Servant- Pokemon who follow "bad" Legendary Pokemon, or those who ignore moral principles or principles overlooked and ideas that are unpopular or are not clarified.

Soul Snatching- This occurs when a Legendary Pokemon is in the process of transferring a Human soul to Zodarus, but a Legendary Pokemon snatches the Soul from them right before the transfer is complete. Evidence of a Soul Snatching is when a Pokemon has the coloration of the Pokemon that snatched the soul, but also has a color on it representing the Pokemon who brought it's soul to Zodarus.

Renegade - Pokemon who desert their factions for personal reasons. They usually go out of their way to hide their affiliation until their desertion is forgotten and are generally considered neutral though other factions may try to capture or bribe them for information. The success rate of this depends on the individual.

I've only just started to read this, but It's already piqued my interest.

I can give ya a hand when needed. I'd look up the Pokedex and such as there are a TON of them.

Ah oh no! Haha xD  I suppose it would be, oops. Still, I'm interested!

Also! I want to know if anything needs cleared up or if there's something anyone wants elaborated on! I also want to emphasize that your faction does not ultimately decide if your character is good or evil. It simply means that a dominant part of their personality fits in with the crowd that legendary would associate themself with.

@Riolux, I definitely do! This sounds like it would be an amazingly interesting roleplay to be in. I really enjoy how you have factions to put yourself into-- it only makes me want to be in this even more. c:

I'd like to also mention that I'm allowing the posting of characters here for the Roleplay. There is no specific format requirement. All that is asked that it describes your character accurately.

@Riolux, I just started working on my character. I'm not sure how long It'll take, but once I'm finished I'll either post it here or send it to you via PM.

@Smauggo Yes indeed there are. THanks for asking though. Also! I've updated the Vocabulary section. And last but not least, I'll be using my character from before the reboot.

Name: Ryan

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Species: Riolu

Faction: Previously a Servant of Darkrai, but is now a Renegade

Alignment: Ryan is a survivor and will do what it takes to survive. However he does have a moral compass and, while somewhat flawed while under Darkrai's command, he is very hesitant about killing or using his Gifted Ability. He isn't, however, above lying, cheating, or performing minor criminal activities such as stealing. Therefore he would fall under the lines of Chaotic Neutral with good tendencies.

Fatal Flaw: Ryan's fatal flaw is his distrusting nature. Due to his short time as a Servant of Darkrai, he sees possible deception everywhere and this makes him hesitant to cooperate with anyone and he usually acts alone.

Saving Grace: While his distrusting nature might be his fatal flaw, his saving grace is, if one can earn it, his loyalty. Ryan can be extremely dedicated to those who prove themselves to be honest with him and he is especially loyal to those he can empathize with, such as other Renegades.

Appearance:
ipwlxEI.png

Moves: Shadow Claw, High Jump Kick, Bullet Punch, Focus Blast

Fighting style: Ryan is an aggressive combatant, rarely holding back once he's started. He usually prefers to start a battle through a sneak attack or some other method that grants him an early advantage.

Personality: Ryan is reclusive, preferring to keep to himself rather than make friends. This is primarily due to the ongoing war between the major Legendary Pokemon. He is aware that wars result in casualties, and deserters are hunted. He is also aware that those he befriends are targets as well. This reluctance is dropped when it comes to other Renegades as he understands their situation is similar to his.

History: Ryan's history prior to being summoned to Zodarus is a mystery.

Likes: Being free to think for himself, Freedom, and challenges

Dislikes: Darkrai, Cresselia and her followers, killing.

Talents: Ryan is a capable thief and fights with an assassin-like style though usually without the fatal results.

Hobbies: Ryan hasn't really picked up a hobby during his time. This may change depending on how things work out.

Fears: Ryan's worst fear is that he will never be able to leave his past as a Servant behind him. He also has a fear that Darkrai will seek retribution through locking Ryan in a nightmare, though this doesn't worry him as much as he believes Darkrai doesn't care enough.

Crushes: Not Applicable.

Orientation: Straight

Theme Song:

Other: N/A

Hmmm I really want to make a Chosen Glaceon, but I also personally morally align with Reshiram... hmmm decisions, decisions.

@NoivianTo be fair, I want Chosen Characters to be available later in the RP due to their power, and you can make more than one character if you think you can handle it. For now, I would prefer Servants, Followers, or Renegades. I'm saying now that you can be any Pokemon despite the chosen Legendary. There can even be Groudon based Ice-Types to put it in perspective.

Oooh, okay! I'll hold off on making my fallback for now, then. I think I want to make her a Chosen of Giratina, so I'll wait.

Alright. Don't worry. I plan on making the inclusion of Chosen extremely meaningful if I can help it, but the war hasn't...escalated to the point where their involvement would be needed.

Ooh. This looks interesting. Apologies this is in the OP and I missed it, but I am assuming players would be humans summoned to Zodolas? Not pokemon natively living there already?

@SoulmuseNope! You're spot on :)  with this. Though I have been considering allowing 3 separate characters. 1 Servant/Follower/Renegade, 1 Miscellaneous, and 1 Chosen, whom will be gained later on.
