Backstory
Leo had a difficult life growing up. His father worked very long hours to put what little food he could on the table while his mother did all she could to take care ofLeo and his brother Jonah. The bond the brothers forged through out their early youth is the keystone for the relationship they have. With few friends between them they were each others closest and best friend. Whether it was playing outside or going for walks, the brothers were inseperable.
Their most fond memories of their early life was being sat in front of the TV together watching their favourite trainers battle it out. Both lads dreamt of one day battling each other in front of the viewers at home. It was something they spoke of for years until one unfortunate day changed both their lives.
During Jonah's thirteenth birthday their father gave the brothers tickets for a live trainer battle event at one of the biggest arena's in the Kanto region. Both boys were overcome with joy and smiles were etched on their faces from the second they entered the car until the last battle was done. On the way back from the trip the weather turned bad with heavy rain reducing visibility drastically. Struggling to see, Leo's father spotted a wild Eevee in the road but with no time to brake he instead swerved. The car span out of control as it lost control on the slick surface before launching over an embankment. It rolled several times down a steep hill before coming to rest with a hard thud against a tree. Sully and his father managed to escape the car relatively unscathed, Leo only suffering a gash over his left eye. Unfortunately Jonah was worse for wear in the back seat, needing immediate medical attention.
In the months that followed the accident Jonah was in a medically induced coma to allow his body to heal. It was a truly difficult time for the family but Leo who had been a fairly happy teenager retreated within himself. He visited his brother and his best friend each day with tubes and drips all over his body. It was truly traumatic for him and nightmares plagued his sleep for a full year after the event. Fortunately for the family Jonah eventually pulled through but received the news that he would be bound to a wheelchair. Leo felt guilt for Jonah's injuries and spent much time blaming himself but his younger brother wasn't going to let that happen. The two shared a heart to heart that involved many tears and a spattering of laughter but what came out of it was a stronger bond shared between the brothers.
The doctors contacted the family six months after Jonah left the hospital and told them about an experimental treatment in Kalos that could help Jonah walk again. The downside was the amount of money required was no where near what their father could earn on his wages. Jonah told his parents it was alright and that they would figure something out. It was during that conversation Leo stood up and told them all, he was going to start his journey as a trainer and earn enough money to pay for the treatment. Initial resistence by his parents was batted away and eventually subdued by a clear determination and passion to go and do it. With his parents and more importantly Jonah's blessing Leo set about starting his journey.
