Fandom Pokemon: An Adventure in Arkona

AtlannianSpy

Alarmed and Strangerous
Panadoor Town, the shrine of hope, ten months ago.

"How fitting that it should begin here," a man muttered to himself. The man was tall, well built and handsome, with curly, salt and pepper hair and a neatly trimmed beard. He wore a well tailored linen suit and he stood in front of a weathered, stone monolith that seemed unspeakably ancient. A simple, rectangular slab of stone, the monolith was covered with faint grooves and and indentations that might have once been legible writing or pictograms, but time and wind had long since worn away the details. This erosion of detail didn't seem to bother the man, he extended a hand forwards and gently traced the faded lines, seeming to trace shapes that were invisible to the naked eye.

With his other hand, man reached up to his chest and pulled a necklace he had been wearing over his head, the centrepiece of which was a strange, round piece of stone. "With this a new era will begin, an era of absolute truth," whispered the man, his tone almost reverent as he pushed the round stone into the centre of the monument. Suddenly the stone began to glow with an eerie blue light, that begin to extend out from it along the surface of the monument to recreate the patterns that had been worn out of the stone.

The light intensified, to the point that the man was forced to close his eyes and shield them with an arm and he began to laugh. "IT BEGINS NOW!" He roared, triumphant into the silent night sky...

Panadoor Town, the shrine of hope, present day...

Sandra Holden, Sandy as she usually insisted on, clicked her tongue impatiently as she scanned the loose crowd around her. This was supposed to be the most important day of her life and she was wasting it standing around in front of a mouldy rock! Sandy was finally starting her journey, even though in other regions freaking twelve year olds could do it. In Arkona the gym circuit wasn't as big a tradition and her parents had only agreed to let her go even at 17 when she agreed to travel with Andy. Which was weird! It wasn't like Adam was anymore responsible than Sandy was! In fact he could be alarmingly naive at times, he was probably running late right now because he was doing something dumb like helping an old lady cross the road. Nevermind that Panadoor town was so sleepy that there was hardly any car traffic to begin with! Cross the road on your own you dumb old ladies! That was what he'd been like the last time they'd been together anyway. It was possible that after Sandy moved over to Arkona Andy toughened up, but somehow Sandy doubted it.

Sandy sighed, stalked over to a nearby bench and sat down to glare moodily at the ancient looking stone across from here. The shrine of Hope was supposed to be good luck for trainers starting out on their journeys, but so far she had just been held up so it didn't seem like it was working! It wasn't like Sandy even believed in luck or even needed it, it had just seemed fitting to do things properly like this.

Suddenly there was a click from the pouch on Sandy's belt and a flash of light. When the light was gone a small, black and red pokemon was sitting in front of Sandy on its haunches, looking up at her with a quizzical expression.

"Hao" barked the houndour, before scooting over to start chewing enthusiastically on one of Sandy's white, chunky sneakers.

"Hey! Hunter! Don't just come out on your own!" Sandy said, bending over to try and wrestle the pokemon away. "And leave my shoes alone! There expensive! I bought you so many chew toys and you just informed them! Gahh!"

Andy would now start his journey here in Arkona. Having only recently arrived here, he looks very out of place and lost in the area for now. Well at least he had a map of the place so he wasn't walking completely blind. He and his Azurill would be looking around the shrine of hope, nor really understanding the lore behind such a thing. But then again, he couldn't so much as read Unown letters so there Is that.

His passion rested in being a chef, doctor and great with pokemon kids. It certainly helped that Aquamarine got Andy to open up to her all those years ago and he now looks to explore Panadoor Town before heading to the first route to befriend his first Pokemon.

Grumbling, Sandy dug her fingers under Hunter's forelimbs and lifted the houndour firmly upwards until he was forced to let go of her shoe... and promptly started licking her face.

"Gah!" Sandy spluttered, holding Hunter away from her at arms length. "You're way too hyper this morning! Did Mum spill her coffee in your food bowl again or something?

"Hao!" Barked the dog pokemon happily and Sandy sighed, then she shifted Hunter to the left slightly to look at something that had caught her eyes behind the pokemon. Or someone rather.

"Andy! Hey Andy" Sandy called, plopping her houndour down so that she could use her hands to cup around her mouth. "Over here!" Before she got a response Sandy stood up and jogged over to a boy standing near the shrine. He wasn't exactly familiar to Sandy since it had been so long, but she recognized Andy from the photo he'd sent over when they planned their meet up.

Before the two get anywhere near the first route however, there is voice ringing out from a fair distance away. The voice belongs to a girl that upon taking a second, was familiar. He just hadn't seen her in a few years. It took another couple of seconds for him to recognize her and her Houndour.

"Sandy? I haven't seen you in a long time, nice to see you and Hunter again " he nods to them both, "How have you been?" The two did at least provide pictures of each other before this meet up so they weren't exactly strangersto each other.
