The Great Palm Leaf Academy was serene and vibrant as ever as the morning sun rises into the new day. About this time academy students are just waking or for the early birds are out doing their usual morning routines. The weekend held a state of bliss for the students, their only time they get to relax out of schooling 5 days out the week. All seemed quiet and still, as even the waters in the courtyard of the academy seemed muted to the outside world. The sounds of distant Tailow could be heard chirping in the winds. But of course as life has it... the still is never really still for long, not at the breach of the winds of life and its storms to come. The academy was suddenly struck with a loud noise, one that sounded like a huge megaphone horn. It bellowed through the campus with distinction, so much so that human and Pokemon alike started to frazzle from their unexpected shock. At the front doors outside of the PLA stood a young woman with hands on her hips and a fellow Loudred beside her, the source of the noise that was generated. Slowly but surely students begin to clamor about towards the sound and before long they would come to see a tall and respected figure come to meet the woman at the doors. His posture was that of a champion, yet his aura was that of the most wises of sages. It was the Headmaster of the Palm Leaf Academy, Headmaster Norn. He stares at the young woman, and as soon as he makes her appearance, a huge smile strikes his face as he welcomes her with joy. "Ahh!!! Shana! What a lovely surprise! What brings you to PLA, let alone in such a loud fashion? Hmm?"

Shana pets her Loudred on the head, as it smiles and simply walks behind her. "Headmaster Norn, I've coming bearing some exciting news from your old pal and my dad, Commissioner Hershel! It seems that he's taken it upon himself to choose me to deliver some news to you..." The Headmaster nods towards the sky in a reminiscent fashion, thinking back to the days where he and Hershel were young trainers themselves, conquering every region and land that they could. They were best friends and rivals, of course they parted ways when Norn decided to become a teacher and mentor of Pokemon and humans alike, while Hershel would become an official Pokemon commissioner of Terranova, responsible for keeping a database on the best trainers, rangers, professors, and experts from all over. Norn would eventually settle down and have a child of his own much like Hershel, but Norn's son Crite would pass through PLA with flying colors before taking up the job in Firmir City as the first official gym leader in the Terranova League. Shana on the other hand, never attended PLA was was raised on the road with her father, nonetheless, she became close friends with Crite and managed to build a reputation for herself as an up and coming champion, not just trainer.

The Headmaster grips his chin. "My old friend Hershel... how is he? Not a tragedy is it?" Shana shakes her head and waves her hands in refute to his concerns. "Not at all sir! He wanted me to issue a challenge to you. See, he's retiring soon! But before he does, he wants to have one last battle with you." The Headmaster chuckles loudly, so much so he grabs his stomach in humor. "Oh ho ho! It's been so long since I battled, I only use Pokemon now to teach my students, not for recreation." Shana's grin flashed before him, and made him lose a bit of his wit. "He figured you'd say that.. so instead he wanted me to propose this... pick some of your most potential students, and they'll battle ME. The upcoming champion for Terranova! But that's not all. He challenges not only you and your students, but the very reputation of PLA. For a while many whispers have spread that PLA is too institutionalized and focuses purely on knowledge without application. What good is all that teaching if they never leave the academy into the real world? You see how it turned out for Crite, at 18 he barely managed to scrape by until he fought to be a gym leader..." The Headmaster visibly grunts a bit, his happy look getting more serious. "This is the old ways vs the new ways, street vs studio! What say you Headmaster?"

As more and more students start to come around, they would only see the awkward standoff between Shana and Headmaster Norn.

Arley Pine
Palm Leaf Academy

"what a beutiful morning ay guys?" A young man said as he smiled at his three Eevees. Every weekend morning Arley Pine, a senior at PLA took a walk with his Pokemon, the cool morning air always reminded Arley of his home in Dale Town. He longed for the days where he could finally be out in the forests again, but for now he was counting down the days until graduation. Speaking of school Arley has always been the passive, shy kid that blended into the background. He had little friends aside from his three Eevees, and anyone who notices him usually sees him as the shy nerdy type who spends all of his time studying, but that's not entirely true. Arley is actually a pretty athletic guy who enjoys camping and being outdoors, he did spend most of his childhood roaming the forests around Dale Town, climbing trees and playing with wild Pokemon. But alas, at school if anyone saw him climb a tree he would be branded as a weirdo... at least more than he already was.

With introductions over Arley's nice peaceful walk with his Pokemon was interrupted by a loud noise that caused all four of them to jump. Tobias, one of Arley's Eevees was so spooked that it leaped off his trainers shoulder and tumbled to the ground. The other two who were chasing after each other on the ground just stopped in their tracks before laughing at their fallen brother. Arley on the other hand was more interested in the source of the sound, it wasn't like the normal morning bell or the intercom. Finally Arley's blue eyes fell upon the entrance of PLA where a woman and a Loudred stood, surely they were responsible for the noise. Soon after the headmaster made his appearance and started up a conversation with the woman.

"I wonder what's going on?" Arley asked himself as he moved in with the small crowd of early bird students. This peaked his interest as commotions like this are rare on the weekends. Hearing bits and pieces of their conversation which sounded normal, but when the woman mentioned that she had some news from the commissioner the crowd around Arley began to mummer with questions especially after she said that the commissioner wanted to battle Headmaster Norn, but the old man declined. Followed by a few disappointed sighs coming from some of the students. Though when the woman fired back with the proposal that the most potential students would battle her, a champion contender for the honor and glory of PLA. Of course a few names come to mind and they were all high ranking students, Jewel Masters and Daphne Bishop were both high ranking seniors, and then there was Tyree Arcs a high ranking Junior who was pretty popular with the ladies. Arley couldn't even compete anywhere close to their level, so he wasn't getting his hopes up for being chosen. That is if the Headmaster even agrees to this.

Its a beautiful morning for one of the juniors of PLA, this one having a Skiddo hat he named Billy beside him. This silly kid had been Andy's first pokemon all those years ago when he visited the Dale Ranch, the two now being a tight knit pair between them. However Billy wasn't the only one around as a Piplup, named Paul, and a Swablu, named Wanda, were also with him. Wanda being like most Swablu and sitting atop Andy's head like a hat, Paul waddling on his left side, Billy trotting along on his right.

The four eventually arrive at Palm Leaf Academy to a rather odd sight. "Just what is going on here? A battle perhaps?" he guessed while a lady with a Loudred and Headmaster Norn started chatting about something he couldn't hear especially thanks to the throng of other students around trying to observe the commotion. "This is kinda weird, what could they be talking about?" he wonders before things got a little more heated between the two as another student said they were possibly going to battle between themselves. "Oh, this should be interesting." he noted a bit eagerly watching things unfold

Fiore had awoken early today for some reason, and while she couldn't quite understand why she would wake up at a time like this on the weekend, the first-year used the time to take a morning walk. Well, technically, she was trying to get to the cafeteria to eat breakfast. But Fiore had mainly grown used to getting lost over the past term rather than learned to find her way, so by now she combined getting from A to B with just strolling and taking in the scenery whenever she wasn't in a hurry. If she was, she had to rely on finding one of the orientation maps on campus (not guaranteed) or the good old asking for directions. Though she by now managed to travel between classroom, dorm and cafeteria pretty directly at least half of the time, there was a certain sense of adventure in just seeing where her feet took her, Fiore found.

Today, they took her in a different direction than she had intended.
The blonde girl's musing about whether her body itself was forgetful of it being a free day today and thus letting her wake up this early came to an end when she realized she had stepped out into the school's garden through a side door, reasonably close to the front plaza with a beautiful fountain and the main entrance. This was quite far from where she had intended to go. Well, now that I'm here, I might as well enjoy this patch of nature while I'm at it, Fiore decided, slowing her steps further.

Just as she lost herself watching a distant Butterfree flitting from flower patch to flower patch, an incredibly loud honking noise made her jump and forget about everything else, including what where exactly she was and what she had been doing before that noise.
Especially these two things.
So with both the ideas of breakfast and admiring the scenery gone from her mind, replaced by a certain curiousity about what that awful noise had been, Fiore started walking towards the direction she believed the sound had come from.

This time, though, the freshman was able to take the correct path to her destination. Arriving at the edge of the main entrance plaza, she spotted two people talking on the stairs to the main entrance's door. One of them she was able to identify as the headmaster (although she wasn't completely sure if the name she found in her memory matched his actual one), but the other one, a young woman, was someone she wasn't familiar with at all. The student wondered if this meant it was a stranger or if she had forgotten about meeting that woman before, but the brunette looked a bit too old to still be a student at PLA, and she could exclude her from the teachers she herself had in the various subjects. Luckily, Fiore was at least able to tell faces apart most of the time if she had seen a person a few times, or her time at school would have been very awkward indeed. Not remembering names well was bad enough as is.

Walking closer, the blonde student noticed several other students gathering nearby, though she believed almost none were in her grade. Since the two adults were speaking fairly loudly, Fiore was able to catch some snippets of their conversation, though she couldn't figure out what topic the two of them were discussing.
"...too institutionalized and focuses purely on knowledge without application. What good is all that teaching if they never leave the academy into the real world?" the brunette woman was saying.
Huh, she has a point there, the girl silently admitted, her thoughts turning to her dream job. Would she really want to teach only theory? Have her students learn lists of Pokémon, berries or type advantages by heart, then consider her work done? There was no charm in that at all. If you didn't care about what you were supposed to learn, how could you ever remember it well? Fiore herself could barely even recall names if she didn't feel a connection to that person, after all.

Having been lost in those thoughts, Fiore's attention only returned to the scene in front of her when the conversation halted, a slightly awkward silence spreading over the plaza.

Evan didn't want to go out today. It was too bright! Besides, he could go online and play with his Pokemon inside his room instead of go outside.

Alas, today he had promised to go outside to get his new Froakie Jae to stop bugging him. So what if he didn't have many friends! So what if he didn't want to go outside! He's been doing well enough in school anyway! And so, he went outside, his Marill Ena bouncing after him and Jae hopping next to him. Where was his Ralts, Aer, you may ask? In his arms of course. While Ena really wanted to rest in his arms, she was just heavier than Aer. He's not that strong, y'know.

And he just made it to the main entrance plaza to walk outside when he saw the headmaster and a young woman talking. Coming nearer he could hear them the woman saying, "He figured you'd say that.. so instead he wanted me to propose this... pick some of your most potential students, and they'll battle ME. The upcoming champion for Terranova!"

Uwah. She went on about how this place was too institutionalized as well. While Evan can agree with her statements, he really rather not do too much walking.

Hmm, but the students with the most potential to battle a contending champion? The headmaster just might agree to that suggestion. After all, when you ask for something big, get declined, then ask for something smaller, they are more likely to agree. But top students... the names that come to mind are Jewel Masters and Ty.

The mornings were usually pretty calm on the PLA campus, especially on the weekends when everyone usually took the extra time to sleep in or just simply taking easy. Even someone like Daphne could appreciate the silence every one in a while, despite her loud nature. The young woman sat near the front plaza leaning back against the fountain with a sketchbook in her lap, she had her headphones blasting music but she could still feel a bit of the aftermath of Mareanie splashing around in the fountain, While she studied a Ledian moving around in the grassy area not far from her. It was pretty rare to see evolutions out here unless you knew were to look, she had been studying the bug-type for a few minutes as her pencil moved quickly across her sketchbook.

The silence was soon interrupted by a loud horn that she could hear even though her music that made Daphne jump a bit, Mareanie even fell over into the fountain. “What in the world?” She watched as the Ledian sped off into the nearby forest. The young woman soon rose to her feet, taking the headphones out of her ear as she watched Mareanie jump out of the fountain and shake himself dry while she tried to cover her sketchbook. “Aww come on dude.” She groaned, but he just stared at her almost blankly before moving up next to her as fast as his little body could carry him. “Let’s go see what all the excitements about.” She grabbed her bag and placed the sketchbook inside before tossing it on her back and picked up the small pokémon and made her way towards the main plaza where a large crowd had gathered around headmaster Norn and some woman who definitely wasn’t staff or a student, but the way they spoke made it pretty evident that they knew each other.

Daphne and Mareanie weren’t too far from the front of the crowd so she could make out most of the conversation, or at least what she was able to catch. The woman was apparently on about the regions commissioner sending some sort of challenge for the headmaster, which he swiftly declined. Daphne would’ve been lying if she said she wasn’t interested in seeing the headmaster battle, but the woman seemed to be prepared for that answer as she swiftly offered up another challenge. “pick some of your most potential students, and they'll battle ME. The upcoming champion for Terranova!” The woman was bold but is she was an upcoming champion then that meant she had the skill to back it all up which sent a wave of excitement through the young woman, however when she said most ‘potential students’ her mind automatically went to Jewel who was without a doubt a talented trainer, and even some junior she had a run in with before: Tyree Arcs, the academy’s playboy or at least that’s the impression she got from him.

Regardless of who the headmaster picked it was bound to be an exciting battle to watch, especially since this mystery woman hadn’t even revealed her team yet. For all, they knew she could’ve had a six roster filled with monsters and most of the seniors hadn’t even gotten past their second evolutions, not counting bug trainers for obvious reasons. “An upcoming champ...I don’t care who she battles, I just hope she gives us a good show.”

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!!!!!

The sound of a pounding door opened the eyes of the pink haired senior as she tumbled over in her bed. A small groan of interrupted bliss escaped her mouth, as she was mid dream of Axel, the Fireblaze City Gym Leader taking her out to get some ice cream... needless to say she may or may not have had a crush on the guy. That was all broken by the sound of a clatter of students voices on the other side of the door, all prompting Jewel to wake up. The groan evolved into a grunt, as she slips on her Cleffa slippers and opens the door, a wild mane covering her scowl and eyes of trepidation. A cluster of female students all looked frantic and rushed as they spoke to Jewel.

Jewel, come quick!!!! There's something going down in the Plaza!
Yeah, I think some hotshot trainer is here!
She looks familiar, said she's an upcoming CHAMPION
Hehe... I'm just here for the ladies....

Jewel and the other females catch wind of the last comment, seeing a grinning boy among the crowd of ladies. All of them gave him a shove as he tumbles down the hall and out of the dorms. Jewel's mean morning face turned into one of curiosity and interest as she heeded the words of her fellow peers. "Give me 5 minutes!!" She slams the door in excitement, quickly changing into her clothes and freshening up as her body seemed to glow like the morning sun all of a sudden. She grabs her three Pokeballs and chains them onto her hip, a look of fierce determination on her face. She opens the door again to find everyone gone and already moving to the front plaza. Midway Jewel is stopped by one of the Seven Instructors of PLA, Instructor Wyvee. The Seven Classes of category at Palm Leaf Academy are Types, Items, Status, Evolution, History, Training, and Mastery. Wyvee serves as the Training Instructor. He stops Jewel outside the dorm, a serious look on his face.

"Jewel, be ready. Things are going to change." Jewel, a bit confused stops on her heels and addressed the suave but very potent teacher. "What do you mean sir?" He simply looked back at Jewel with a stoic expression. "You should hurry along." Jewel remained stunned for a moment, before returning a nod and sprinting across the yard of campus until she came into sight with the other crowd of students. The other Instructors were there as well. She runs up and pushed her way through the crowd, most eyes on her as they instantly murmured Jewel's name. Whatever was going on, Jewel must've been needed for it. She pushes past the crowd to get outside, where she immediately saw Daphne, her closest friend. Among her and other kids, they all looked at the Headmaster with another young woman who looked very skilled. Jewel mouths to Daphne 'What is going on?' With her hands open in confusion.

Suddenly, The Headmaster speaks up. "Shana... look around you. There's a reason this academy is as elite as it is. We don't need to venture out, because if we did... honestly the rest of the world would be too easy. These students push themselves mentally and physically in the name of their love for Pokemon. The world teaches you to gain and battle Pokemon first, as if they're objects... as if they don't possess souls like we do. That's exactly the same reason why you could pick any of my top students... and they'd show you just how powerful PLA is." The students' chatter increases as The Headmaster had never talked so confidently before to the point it bordered on arrogance. Shana only grinned, and pulled from her pocket a small object she showed to the Headmaster, an object which made him for the first time ALL semester, strike an expression of defeat. It was a badge, not just any badge, The first gym badge, the gym of Headmaster Norn's son. "Isn't your son supposed to be a representative of PLA? The model icon for the school since he landed a dream job of gym leader? How is it then that I have this? Like I said uncle Norn... all that knowledge, with no application." The entire crowd gasped, as in another twist the Headmaster's face mellows into a smile. "My son lacks one thing I could never teach. Alright Shana. Tell your father I accept his challenge. Since we have a limit of three Pokemon at the academy, pick your three to use."

The crowd couldn't believe it, neither could Jewel. The Headmaster was about to accept an outside challenge!? She'd called him uncle, but the only family he had was his son and wife... which means this woman must be a close figure to him, a family friend. Who was she? Shana? Was this what Wyvee was referring to? Was this the catalyst for the change he spoke of?

Shana: "Crite told me to ask for Jewel Masters."

The crowd all gasped into more talk as Jewel's heart dropped. She wanted her? Everyone that knew Jewel knew she was always the stoic one, but should one ever call her out, they would live to regret it. Jewel didn't bother to say another word, she stepped past Headmaster Norn and faced Shana in her eyes. "You know me?" She says. Shana responds. "Nah, but Crite does. Says you battled him once before, and lost." Jewel started to clench her fists. No one at PLA knew that. It was a graduation challenge by Crite after his ceremony. Everyone else had went to sleep or in their rooms, Crite wanted to pass the torch to Jewel before he left, so they had a battle. It was her Junior year. "I wasn't the same student then. You'll see that." Shana then responds simply "No, I won't. I don't want to battle you. You lost to the person I beat. Sorry to say that if you really are as strong as they say I'll see that for myself when you venture into the real world. Crite's like a brother to me, so I take his word for it when he says you're the one to beat... but I'm not looking for the one to beat, I'm looking for the one to prove the point I'm making. You'll all always be behind without experience. I don't want your strongest... I want your smartest."

Jewel remained perfectly still, a small smirk coming to her face. "You're still looking at her. I'm right here. Of course there are many geniuses here, but all the knowledge the Headmaster has taught me and my instructors... it'd be my pleasure to apply it right now. All over your entitled ass." The Headmaster visibly places his hands over his mouth as the crowd gets sizzled up from Jewel's talk. The instructors all seem disapproving of her language, but far off... Instructor Wyvee looks from a distance, smiling. The Headmaster butts in "Enough! Jewel! Language! We don't talk like that! Shana, my dear. I'll make a deal with you. As good as my bond with your father. If you defeat ME, here and now... I will agree to the terms of your Terranova Challenge... but should I win, it maintains that the new ways are even better in scope than the trainers who dedicate their lives to pure battle. What say you?"

Jewel and the rest of the school could be seen with jaws dropping to the floor. The Headmaster was... about to battle!? This was like seeing the famed Lance vs the one they called Ash Ketchum from the days of the Indigo League stories. The Headmaster had always been a great icon and figure to Jewel, to see him finally about to do the thing everyone had always wondered about him... this was unparalleled. The entire school looks at him, and then to Shana, as she grins with an already victorious smile.

"Deal."

Tyree Arcs
Mood: ?!?!?!?
Location: Front Plaza

Morning time, Tyree's least favorite time of the day. He laid awake in his bed contemplating if he could get away with skipping the school day to sleep. "I just gotta get one of the guys to tell a teacher I'm sick and I should be good." Ty often did this throughout his time at Palm Leaf Academy. He didn't mind the classes at PLA, he found them quite easy. The comfy beds in the dorm rooms just made it hard for him to ever wanna get outta bed. "I will never leave your side you comfortable beauty." Ty said to his bed while caressing it. This was his normal routine in the morning.

Knock! Knock!

Ty's intimate moment with his bed was then interrupted with a knock on his door. "I'm busy!!!" Ty yelled out of irritation. "Ty, you gotta come see this, the upcoming champion just challenged Headmaster Norn to pick some of his best students to battle him!" He heard from the other side of his door. Hearing this made Ty quickly jump outta bed. "I'll come back for you my love." He said to his bed as he hurriedly put on his signature outfit and opened the door. "Took you long enough, now come on they're at the plaza." Ty and his classmate then took of for the plaza, Ty leaving him in the dust.

When Ty arrived he heard the Headmaster start to speak. "Shana... look around you. That's exactly the same reason why you could pick any of my top students... and they'd show you just how powerful PLA is." Ty kept pushing through the crowd as the Headmaster spoke. 'The old man sure is cocky.' He thought to himself. When Ty made it to the front of crowd he was in awe when he saw Shana, the upcoming champion and the only person Ty wanted to beat more than Jewel, holding up Crite's gym badge. Her response left Ty in even more awe.

The next thing that happened left Ty not knowing what to feel. Shana called out the fairy queen of Palm Leaf Academy herself, Jewel Masters. 'She got to battle Crite before he left?!' Ty was starting to get Jealous but the feeling quickly went away when Shana spoke again. "No, I won't. I want your smartest." This was perfect for Ty. He was known for knowing how to use his pokemon after all, not how strong they were. Jewel's response made Ty smirk. This whole situation was just too good to be true. But then it got better. The headmaster challenged the woman that Ty wanted to beat the most to a battle and she agreed.

"THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME!!!" Ty yelled with all the excitement in the world.

Hearing the headmaster speak so confidently made Fiore feel an uncommon amount of pride for having made it into this prestigious school - maybe it hadn't been a stroke of luck after all, and she had talents that would help compensate her mental clumsiness. Her uplifted mood soon fell again, though, when her Buneary nudged her leg, the girl's two plant-type Pokémon in tow, all giving her as what could only be called a half annoyed, half patronizing look.

Immediately, the blonde student knelt down, ignoring the conversation for the moment, to pat each of her companions' heads as an attempt at reconciliation - she had forgotten to explicitely call them along on her walk again. Having been with her for between one and five years, Fiore's Pokémon had grown accustomed to her forgetfulness and didn't take her lapses personally (at least not anymore), but the girl couldn't help but feel sorry to have been such an unreliable trainer again every time it happened.
"Aww no, I did it again, didn't I? I am so sorry!" she whispered, her features forming into an unhappy frown, then her head shot up again as she registered a name even she was able to recognize being mentioned by the stranger.

"Jewel Masters!"

Isn't that... like... the top student? Fiore realized in awe, rising to her feet to get a better look, her Buneary now cradled in her arms and her eyes growing even wider as she saw the pink-haired girl take the stage. This is like the beginning of an adventure story right now, the first-year thought, although I don't really understand what exactly is going on and I'm just watching from the sidelines. But this is so exciting!
She doubled her efforts to follow the conversation now, but soon her mind once more got caught on a detail she wasn't able to place due to missing earlier statements. Crite? the blonde girl wondered, straining her memory to see if she couldn't make a connection after all. I feel like that name should be familiar, but who...? No, she couldn't get sidetracked yet again! This was the, what, third time in just one minute? Shaking her head, the student focused on listening again.

"...should I win, it maintains that the new ways are even better in scope than the trainers who dedicate their lives to pure battle. What say you?" the headmaster prompted, and promply received the brunette woman's, answer, "Deal."

"Oh my gosh," Fiore couldn't help but say out loud, almost letting her Pokémon go as she tried to raise a hand to her mouth by reflex. That she didn't was just as much due to Danza's quick reaction to dig her tiny claws into the girl's shirt as the student's own realization that she was still holding the Buneary. But this meant that there was going to be a showdown between the headmaster and the stranger, didn't it? It was probably the most exciting thing that would have had happened since she had spent her first day at PLA! The blonde first-year could feel her heart beating faster, vowing that she wouldn't take her eyes off the scene as these events unfolded - hoping her emotional investment would prevail over the easily distracted part of her mind.

When Jewel Masters came into the scene, Evan knew it was going to get heated, considering Shana was challenging the school. Then again, the headmaster was pretty cocky as well.

"Crite told me to ask for Jewel Masters."

And as expected, she asked for the top student at the academy. Who she then dismissed, surprisingly. Jewel was beaten by Crite before he left? And then... and then Jewel curses at her. Evan approves. And then he adjusts Aer in his arms. He's starting to get tired. He wants to sit down somewhere to watch...

And then the Headmaster accepted the challenge, putting the viability of the new ways on the line! But... Terranova Challenge? What was that? Perhaps Shana had talked about it before he came here.

And how were his Pokemon reacting to the news? Ena was still looking at Aer in his arms, Jae was looking smug, and Aer was trying to hide in his arms. Evan inwardly sighed. It's just how his Pokemon were.

"THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME!!!"

And there's Ty. And he's right. It really would be an awesome thing to watch the Headmaster battle, wouldn't it?

Daphne was still taken by surprise at the woman’s bold challenge, even more so when the headmaster agreed and would be putting of some of the academy’s best against her. “Excuse me” “Coming through!” “Whose hand is that?!” Daphne and Mareanie pushed through the rest of the crowd, the small poison-type lashing at those who wouldn’t move as the duo finally made it to the center of the crowd, she noticed that Tyree Arcs had decided to show his face and briefly caught Jewel as she shrugged in response to her question, before bringing her index finger up to the side of her head and mouthing ‘She’s crazy’. The moment however was cut short when the woman asked for Jewel by name, of course Daphne knew that she was talented but the fact that an upcoming champion knew her was just mind blowing.

The woman, Shana, was more than bold now, she was flat out crazy and to Daphne’s taste a bit too overconfident. She doubted the skills of the students simply because they trained differently than she did, of course these weren’t the olden times they now had facilities to keep young trainers safe and help them reach their full potential without throwing themselves in harms way. Could someone really be so close-minded? “No I don’t want to battle you. You lost to the person I beat. Sorry to say that if you really are as strong as they say I’ll see that for myself when you venture into the real world. Crite’s like a brother to me, so I take his word for it when he says you’re the one to beat...but I’m not looking for the one to beat, I’m looking for the one to prove the point I’m making. You’ll always be behind without experience. I don’t want your strongest... I want your smartest.” At this point Daphne didn’t know what was more shocking the fact that Jewel had actually battle a gym leader and lost or the fact that this chick was actually on some sort of war path to prove her fathers point.

The exchange went one a bit longer between the two and ended with Jewel becoming more serious by the minute, obviously not backing down from a challenge like this. “You’re still looking at her I’m right here. Of course there are geniuses here, but all the knowledge the Headmaster has taught me and my instructors...it’d be my pleasure to apply it right now. All over your entitled ass.” Daphne nearly lost it, she would’ve applauded her friends actions if she hadn’t been holding her little companion but instead called out. “Yeah you tell her!” She stepped out a bit more in support for her friend, mareanie doing the same as it yelled out it’s support.

However their celebration was cut short when the headmaster forced his way back into the conversation, in order to regain control over the situation. Although his resolve only upset Daphne as he agreed to take Shana on instead, of course it’d be great to see him battle for the first time but to take an opportunity like this from some of the trainers here as a chance to prove themselves was just...wrong and she wouldn’t have it. “No way! With all due respect Headmaster and I don’t know your relationship with this bi-...very respectable trainer...but you can’t take an opportunity like this from those who’ve worked hard all year to prove themselves.” She had made her way to Jewels side now as she continued. “Even if it isn’t Jewel who battles her, we have a huge roster of kids with loads of talent who never get a chance to prove themselves! She’s insulting us, not just you and your pride and if you battle her in our place then she’s won already and it just proves to her that we aren’t ready to tackle the real world on our own.” She turned and faced Shana, standing tall as she stared down the woman. “You didn’t come here to fight the old man...you’ve got an issue with us, then I suggest you take it up with US!” She nudged Jewel and then pointed towards the crowd of students, hoping she’d back her up.

Dap's speech was too inspirational and too accurate to ignore, and as Jewel looked her friend in the eyes and saw the will and determination behind it, she couldn't help but passively infuse a bit of her close friend's aura into herself. With a look of iron, Jewel nodded in agreement and clutched a hand on her PokeBall, signaling to Shana she was ready to go. The rest of the school started to clap at Daphne's speech, with the Headmaster suddenly placing a hand on his chin and looked to be in a contemplative manner. The PLA instructors all then finally emerged from the front doors, looking at the scene unfold. They too seemed to be awe stricken at the fact that Headmaster Norn was going to be battling as well. The Palm Leaf Seven were the most elite teachers, and in their own respect trainers among adults in Terranova. They were:

Instructor Wyvee, Pokemon Training
Instructor
Arch, Pokemon Types
Instructor
Cetra, Pokemon Mastery
Instructor
Maggie, Pokemon Items (Sister to Gym Leader Axel)
Instructor
Lann, Pokemon Evolution
Instructor
Phosa, Pokemon History
Instructor
Yosimite, Pokemon Status

Among them, Wyvee seemingly stepped up from nowhere, his arms folded with is glasses reflecting off the sun. He looks at the instructors and students alike, before turning to Jewel and Daphne. "She's right Norn. It has to be them. We've trained and taught them the most extensive and adept knowledge the region has to offer... what message do we really send the Commissioner if even after all that we still decide to fight on their behalf? Let them show Shana the difference. Let them show her why they got accepted... and she didn't."

Jewel gasps under her breath. An upcoming champion, rejected from PLA?? It would make more sense now about this little challenge and issued rivalry. Jewel looks at Dap, a non-verbal gaze to suggest that the picture made a bit more sense now. She'd looked over to see a girl cover her hand with her mouth in shock. By the reaction this was all new to the girl, she had to be a Freshman. She had a cute little Buneary that caught her shirt as she did so. The sound of a rather rugged and vobrant voice filled the crowd that generated some chuckles. She knew that voice anywhere. Tyree Arcs. The hotshot dreamboy that was pretty potent in Pokemon knowledge as well. The instructors all looked a bit skeptic at each other, before turning to face the headmaster. Norn simply resides with a hand to his chin, eyes closed and still thinking. After a moment he finally spoke up. "Alright Shana. If you won't take your best friend & my son's advice and refuse to battle Jewel, then I'll allow you to face a student of your choosing." The Headmaster then turned back towards the horde of students, who all looked awed and anticipatory. "..Unless we have a soul who would like to step up? Jewel, as much as I know you want this, she already knows you're capable. The school knows it. She wants someone she hasn't heard of, that way she can tell we're the real deal and not a fluke banking off one pupil."

Jewel's face went sour... she never wanted to just drop a challenge. For Shana to come the way she did and disrupt the flow of the school like that, she wanted to have her go at the self-claimed champion-coming so bad. But, Headmaster had spoken as well as Shana. Jewel would stow her ambition for the sake of the challenge, with Shana not knowing she just made a rival who will relentless hunt her down to the ends of the planet until she defeated her regardless. Another thing Shana didn't know... there were students here just as capable as she was. Jewel then whispered over to Dap. "You gonna step up?"

Shana folds her arms in and smirks, still silent and waiting. Her Loudred yawns from the lack of activity, as they wait patiently and calmly. Headmaster Norn looks among the crowd. "So, who wants to step up and show Shana here how things are done at the PLA?"

Watching everything unfold Arley couldnt help but to feel excited. Seeing the three high ranking students come out (Jewel, Daphnee, and Tyree), all making their own appearance. They were all so confident, Jewel calling the lady out for being entitled and Daphne who stood up not only for Jewel, but for all pf PLA. Tyree just yelled out in excitement, it wasn't much bit to Arley it looked pretty confident. Man if only he could be like them...

Getting a better view Tobias and Fluffy climbed up ontp Arley's shoulders, they too were pumped up for this. While Cora stayed inbetween Arley's legs, being as timid as her trainer. After hearing the challenge Tobias and Fluffly looked at eachother before nodding at eachother. Leaping off of their trainers shoulders like two synchronized divers, they then sprinted towards Shana. The two Eevees looked like they were readt for a fight, and pretty soon Cora sprintrd from Arley's legs to join them. Arley on the other hand was silently freaking out since his three Pokemon went awol.

Making his way through the crowd Arley caught up with his Pokemon, "guys what are you doing?" He scolded them getting ready to put the back into their pokeballs, but Arley hesitated when he the looks in their eyes. They wanted to battle, the all looked confident and fired up, even Cora. Arley though that their confidence would rub off on him.

"U~um I would like to," Arley announced, feeling the eyes on him the young man could feel his face burn crimson. What the hell way he doing? Arley, a student who barelly stood out, kept to himself, and was probably the worst senior was challenging a future champion. He was way in over his head.

Tyree was so confused as to why Daphne caused this. Getting to watch Norn and Shana battle would benefit everyone by letting them see how Shana battles up close. Ty has seen her battle before at a tournament but he knew what he saw then wasn't her full power at all. He needed to see more and Norn's battle experience would help bring out all of Shana's tricks and strategies. Daphne completely ruined the perfect opportunity for Ty and it's not getting any better for him. At all.

"U~um I would like to," Ty heard the most timid voice say. He turned to see it was Arley, a senior at Palm Leaf Academy. Arley wasn't popular whatsoever. The only reason Tyree even knew who Arley was because of his unusual choice of pokemon. The senior had three eevee's in his party. A very unusual and not very effective team to have. This had Ty on edge, if Arley were to battle Shana he wouldn't be able to even scrape the surface of her powers. And unfortunately for Ty, Shana already declined the school's strongest student.

'Looks like I gotta go against her,' he thought as he pulled a pokeball out of his pocket and walked forward looking Shana dead in the eye. 'At least Jewel and Daphne will be able to plan strategies against her.' Tyree then smirked at Shana with all of the confidence he had. "I don't think you'd have any fun battling that guy," he said to the upcoming champion. "You wanted the smartest the academy has to offer anyway. And Jewel might not think it but that just so happens to be me. So lets do this Ms.Upcoming Champion."

Evan expected a battle between the Headmaster and upcoming champion to battle, when another Senior, Daphne, went up and spoke.

“No way! With all due respect Headmaster and I don’t know your relationship with this bi-...very respectable trainer...but you can’t take an opportunity like this from those who’ve worked hard all year to prove themselves. Even if it isn’t Jewel who battles her, we have a huge roster of kids with loads of talent who never get a chance to prove themselves! She’s insulting us, not just you and your pride and if you battle her in our place then she’s won already and it just proves to her that we aren’t ready to tackle the real world on our own.” She turned to face Shana. "You didn’t come here to fight the old man...you’ve got an issue with us, then I suggest you take it up with US!”

An inspiring speech, as Evan can see the effect it had on the students around, awed and riled up by the speech, but somehow polite enough to keep silent or lower their voices to a murmur. Then someone started to clap. And another. And soon, most if not all the students at the plaza were clapping at Daphne's speech. Of course, Evan was clapping as well, just very slowly and quietly, as he didn't want to rattle Aer too much. His Froakie, Jae was clapping along with his webbed feet while Ena was still staring at his arms...

Then, suddenly, the instructors of the Academy came into the plaza, Instructor Wyvee stepping forth out of the group. "She's right Norn. It has to be them. We've trained and taught them the most extensive and adept knowledge the region has to offer... what message do we really send the Commissioner if even after all that we still decide to fight on their behalf? Let them show Shana the difference. Let them show her why they got accepted... and she didn't."

... That could be her reason why she's doing this. It would make sense. But that is so... bland. Cliche? A grudge for not being accepted into the academy? Such a weak reason. No, Evan hoped she had more of a reason behind her. Otherwise, if she wins against the students here with that reason backing her... It would feel too much like a joke. A farce. Bleh, Evan could not find the right words to describe this feeling. Of course, he never showed it outwardly, but Aer grabbed on him just a little tighter. "Ralts..."

He sighed. "Sorry Aer," he apologized.

Then the headmaster spoke up.

"Alright Shana. If you won't take your best friend & my son's advice and refuse to battle Jewel, then I'll allow you to face a student of your choosing." The Headmaster then turned back towards everyone. "..Unless we have a soul who would like to step up? Jewel, as much as I know you want this, she already knows you're capable. The school knows it. She wants someone she hasn't heard of, that way she can tell we're the real deal and not a fluke banking off one pupil."

A student that can rival Jewel? The top ranking students that come to mind were, again, Ty and Daphne. To be honest, Evan himself would not rank on the same scale as those two. Daphne's team is quite scary, able to use one Pokemon to wipe out his own... Ty's own Pokemon are dangerously strong, being all Dragon-type. Jewel was also the best student in the Academy. Why wouldn't she battle her...?

But as for Evan himself, he was quite weak. Though he could figure out the typing of nearly every Pokemon he could catch sight of, that didn't translate well into actual battles when his Pokemon were all at their first forms, excluding his Marill, Ena. Hell, Ena wasn't that strong either.

But later... oh, they'll all be powerhouses. He just has to be patient.

Perhaps he was too stifled at the academy, like Shana had implied? But he doesn't want to walk too much. Hmm... Perhaps he could use vehicles to get around? A bike? A skateboard? He doesn't know how to use the last item but he could learn if it means he could rest more at towns more often if he were to explore the region.

Ah, he went off-topic. His school's pride is on the line! Can he really represent the school's top students?

The answer is no. He cannot.

"U~um I would like to," a Senior said. Who is that? He's... not one of the top students, right? It would be unacceptable for him to represent the school. Evan was about to dreadfully volunteer himself, when Ty spoke.

"I don't think you'd have any fun battling that guy. You wanted the smartest the academy has to offer anyway. And Jewel might not think it but that just so happens to be me. So lets do this Ms.Upcoming Champion."

Cocky and arrogant as always Ty. Though, being able to back it up doesn't hurt. Looks like the situation was handled and Shana will face one of their best. Unfortunately not their Headmaster, but what can you do?

So, he just sat down, let Ena into his arms now that he doesn't have to carry her for her to be there, and hugged his two lifelong friends with Jae looking on.

With the events coming this quick and fast, for once Fiore's problem wasn't that she fell into attention lapses, but that she had what people would commonly call 'her mind blown'. Regardless, it made it harder for her to stay on top of what was happening and thus, as the headmaster called out for volunteers, the blonde girl was still trying to process what exactly was going on right now.

Start again at the beginning, she told herself. The headmaster had been just about to battle Shana - Fiore had finally caught her name by now -, when a blue-haired girl, seemingly Jewel's friend, had stepped out of the crowd and insisted that one of the students should get a chance to prove themselves. Then, in another twist, the whole teaching staff had appeared on the scene again, the training instructor (now was his name Wyvee or Cetra? The first-year still kept mixing the names of these two up) speaking up to concur that a student should take the challenge.
And now, the headmaster just agreed, didn't he? Fiore concluded, fairly proud she had been able to reconstruct this eventful past minute or so without any major gaps. This may be even more exciting than him himself battling!

First of all, a student taking on Shana would indeed better prove the point the teachers were trying to make, and secondly, Fiore hadn't seen many of her fellow students battle yet during her time here, aside from other first-years during class. I mean, I suppose a senior is going to step up, so... That would make the most sense, after all - if a first-year or even a junior were to accept the challenge, both winning and losing would mean less, as they hadn't gone through all of PLA's program yet.

She looked back to her Pokémon to see if they were okay with her staying back, too, though she was sure they would be. Danza, still in her arms, flapped her ears happily, almost as if to say "I'm having fun either way", while her Chikorita glanced up to her and took a small, deliberate step back. "Let someone more suited handle this." Rosa, the Budew, didn't seem to care at all, too busy hopping up and down in an attempt to jump high enough to touch the leaf on Valeriana's head with her own. Alright then.

Relaxing a little now that she knew what the situation was and that she didn't have to take any particular action, Fiore's mind was just starting to drift off again when she heard a soft, shy voice speak up, seemingly belonging to a blue-haired students surrounded by three Eevees. She didn't know him, but she did recognize the boy walking past the Eevee trainer now. It was impossible not to be aware of this senior as a female student at PLA - although she couldn't quite recall his name. Something starting with T, maybe? Taylor? No, maybe Ti-something? Or was it just Ty? That may be it, the first year decided, nodding to herself as 'arguably Ty' challenged Shana in his self-assured, slightly cocky way. Since he was one of the top students, too, having him handle this was practically as good as having Jewel handle it.

Shana's rigid stance finally loosened up when Wyvee mentioned the comment about her not being accepted. For once, the girl was visibly stunned at the words of the instructor, but only briefly, as she went back into a cool and seemingly non-chalant manner. A small smile came to her lips as she looked at Wyvee and then back to the Headmaster as he agreed to let her face a student. She sighed in boredom, just wanting this thing to be finalized and started already. She didn't care who it was, be it the Headmaster or and instructor or a student... there was something to be said about a girl who could march up to the most elite academy and call the entire school out, and Norn knew that someone that bold would definitely have the means to back it up. Especially the daughter of his childhood friend, bets friend to his very own son. He knew that while Shana may not have been accepted, she was nonetheless a supremely powerful trainer. She heard the timid voice of a boy speak as the crowd all looked at him. A blue haired trainer with Eevee's by his side. Shana scanned the boy's confidence and aura. She didn't even think twice about it. "Pass." Just then another lad stepped up, this time some of the ladies smiling and giggling as he talked. "I don't think you'd have any fun battling that guy, You wanted the smartest the academy has to offer anyway. And Jewel might not think it but that just so happens to be me. So lets do this Ms.Upcoming Champion." Shana was digging the pride worn by this student, seeming to get the ladies on his side. She looked back to Jewel, who still had the same drive and determination on her face. It'd made Shana smirk even more. The pride of this school vs her pride. She tilted her head at the boy, curiosity setting in. "You? Silver hair, tank top showing your body... you're a trainer that loves vanity. Your Pokemon are probably all about prioritizing attack with strong moves. Types like you are so predicable... let me guess... you use Dragon Pokemon correct? You're all the same. A person's Pokemon choice is representative of their deepest desires and insecurities. You value vanity because it compensates for what you really desire... to be cool. Power. A legacy. That's the rite of dragons, so someone like you won't understand what it's like to truly value a code. But... if you want to be the one to represent ALL of Palm Leaf Academy. Step right up. Remember Mr. Image.. the pride of your reputation and the entire school is on the line here. Can you handle the pressure?"

Shana smirks almost tauntingly at Ty as she intentionally moved to press his buttons. That's what she did. Broke down a trainer and everything they were to exploit in battle. She yawned again at the idle situation, before patting her Loudred on the head. "Actually, I won't even use three... I'll use two. That's more than enough to dispose of any student you have Uncle Norn." She takes one PokeBall off her clip, tossing it up and down as Loudred starts to happily jump up and down as well. Jewel remains silent and watching beside Dap, the scene unfolding into a great moment for the school. She looks over at Ty, Arley, and the two quieter kids. Wyvee walks up beside Jewel and Dap, arms folded and watching the scene unfold with them. This was it, the moment of truth. Years and years of tradition and prestige at Palm Leaf Academy was now being challenged into question. Whatever happened from this moment forward would change and shape the scope of the future for the students. Shana sits down butterfly legged and nodded to her Loudred. "My Boom-Boom will go first. IF your student can make it to the second one they'll find out what it is soon enough. I'm ready."

Headmaster Norn speaks to the students all in one. "No matter what, remember your lessons. Remember your potential and purpose for this world. I'm already proud of you all, now... in the name of Palm Leaf Academy, make her regret showing up."

Jewel grunted mildly as her nerves begin to jump and increase. She couldn't help but feel like it should be her. But if it was someone else, the least she could do is cheer them on in hope. "Just kick her ass already."

If there was one thing Daphne was good at besides battling it was getting a crowd hyped up, although she had to admit to have the entire student body and the staff on her side was a great feeling. And when Wvyee stepped up to support her claim, while not one of her favorite professors she was still glad to have him on her side.

students alike, before turning to Jewel and Daphne. "She's right Norn. It has to be them. We've trained and taught them the most extensive and adept knowledge the region has to offer... what message do we really send the Commissioner if even after all that we still decide to fight on their behalf? Let them show Shana the difference. Let them show her why they got accepted... and she didn't." After those words Daphne almost felt a bit bad for the woman, having been rejected from a school for ‘talented trainers’ must’ve really hurt when she was young, which could also be the reason she felt that she had something to prove, and why she was determined to beat anyone staff or student that stepped up to her.

Daphne was shaken from her thoughts as Jewel nudged her arm. "You gonna step up?" It wasn’t a silly question to ask and she was more than willing to show everyone why she deserved to be a top ranking student, Mareanie even gave a small grunt to signal he was ready if they were going to battle. This woman, Shana, was strong though and had the confidence or arrogance at least to back it all up, while Daphne was cool, and had a clear head obviously unfazed by this buffed up persona, and normally most people who battled her never made it past mareanie but in this case she’d have to go all out.
“Fine, I’ll-“ “U~um I would like to.” She hardly registered the boy and his entourage of Eevee who all seemed to be eager to battle, he was a senior but his name escapes her at the moment. ‘Archie?’ ‘Arley?’ Yeah something like that and the small fellows you his side had a lot of spirit but the senior behind them seemed too unsure of himself and Shana seemed to pick up on that as well and without giving him a second glance she shut the guy down instantly. “Pass.” Daphne almost felt bad for the guy, he had heart that was for sure.

There was a small moment before anyone else spoke up and Daphne was about to step forward but once again she was stopped by possibly the most cocky student at PLA, Tyree Arcs. "I don't think you'd have any fun battling that guy, You wanted the smartest the academy has to offer anyway. And Jewel might not think it but that just so happens to be me. So lets do this Ms.Upcoming Champion." The boys arrogance could’ve rivaled Shana’s and the fact that he placed himself above Daphne in intelligence made her visibly shudder, however she wouldn’t doubt his skills since it takes a lot of talent and willpower to bring up dragons, let alone a full team of them. So he might be the representative they needed so for the time being shed stand behind him.

“You're all the same. A person's Pokemon choice is representative of their deepest desires and insecurities. You value vanity because it compensates for what you really desire... to be cool. Power. That's the rite of dragons, so someone like you won't understand what it's like to truly value a code.” Once again Shana had hit the nail on the head, she could see through everyone just like Daphne could, and she still didn’t seem shaken by any of this...maybe the guy was in over his head and should’ve let a more tactful trainer take the lead but he had already stepped up and either way Daphne could still observe the woman’s battle style, one or two turns was all she needed to get an idea and if Ty couldn’t pull it off then at least it’ll be a humbling experience for him.

Daphne still couldn’t help but feel nervous for the guy as Shana simply sat down, petting (‘Boom-Boom’)her loudred while simply stating that she’d only use two pokemon, a handicap that would prove most useful in the long run. “Dude she just sat down Alder style on you, I’d suggest you take this serious and I mean for the school...not your ego.” Daphne whispered before walking back towards the edge of the crowd to give them room. She found herself next to a younger student, a blonde with a cute assortment of pokemon surrounding her, a freshman by the looks of it and by the way her pokemon seemed to almost retreat at the idea of a battle and moving even further as mareanie made eye contact with each of them.
She nudged the girl lightly. “Pay close attention, not just to the pokemon but the trainers as well and how they work in battle.” She stated, followed by a warm smile before returning to her more serious state of mind, eyeing the woman she could one day be battling against or for at the pokemon league.

Ouch, Fiore inwardly winced as Shana first laconically dismissed the student with the three Eevees and then went on to taunt Ty.
"...the pride of your reputation and the entire school is on the line here. Can you handle the pressure?" Uwah, right! she realized at the last statement, doubly glad now that she hadn't presumed to step forth. While she didn't mind losing that much in general, to think she'd be embarrassing other people than herself by doing so was deterring, to say the least. The blonde girl touched her face to her Buneary's head, Danza still being cradled in her arms, silently mouthing a small good luck charm for the older student. If Shana was the trainer she presented herself to be, he might need it, top student or no.

Being lost in thought again this way, Fiore almost jumped when someone nudged her arm all of a sudden. Looking up, she found to her further surprise that the blue-haired girl from earlier - Jewel's friend! - was standing next to her. Eyes wide, a mix of amazement and elation began to form on the first-year's face - her interactions with seniors had so far been limited to walking up to them and asking for directions once or twice, when she had been really badly lost. To be approached by one of them instead - and by a probably high-ranked student, too - was... almost a bit unreal.
"Pay close attention, not just to the pokemon but the trainers as well and how they work in battle.”
"Y-yes! I'll do my best!" Fiore reflexively replied, nodding vigorously as her expression resolved towards returning the blue-haired girl's smile. She came here to help me learn something? Well, maybe she was reading too much into it, but being seen as having enough potential for someone to bother giving her advice was indeed a huge motivation boost for the first-year, given that she had her fair share of trouble retaining information. I'll do my best to not let her down, she resolved to try and keep her current unusual streak of near-continuous attention going.

Just before she turned her eyes and focus back to the challenger and Ty, the blonde student felt another nudge on her legs and saw that her Chikorita had stepped back even further, now basically hiding behind her. Rosa, too, had interrupted her earlier game and was now stepping from one tiny leg to the other, wagging her bud curiously. Following her Budew's line of sight, Fiore then spotted what was probably the blue-haired girl's Pokémon. "Now now, don't be shy," she whispered encouragingly to Valeriana as she bent down, setting down Danza in the process. "I'm sure you can be friends!" Fiore did reach out to pick up Rosa, though. Sometimes the little Pokémon had the strangest ideas (the hopping game being among the more normal ones), and she didn't want to have to divide her attention later in case the Budew was up to something again, she usually was preciously short on it as it was.

Standing back up again, the blonde girl happily noted that Valeriana did take a step forward to stand next to the Buneary, though she still had a slightly doubtful look in her eyes. Smiling apologetically, Fiore shot a glance at the senior next to her - hopefully she hadn't distracted her - before she finally returned to watching the scene outside the gathered crowd. It wasn't going to be easy, keeping track of two people and two Pokémon at once - and probably at least two more Pokémon once Ty or Shana started switching. Hopefully she could take away at least something from this.
