Pirates of Greenebriar

Marius stood at the stern of his ship, the Queen's Lace, a smirk on his rugged face. He had just made port in this quaint little town and sent his crew ashore to relax before they set sail in the morning. Caden, his best friend and first mate and told him of...the wayward...noble who lived here. Marius had made plans to kidnap her for a ransom. He needed some booty to show of to the pirate federation.

He had dressed in his finest clothes, stolen from a VERY rich merchant and made his way to the manor that sat atop the hill. He knocked and was let in when he said he was a suitor here to see the lovely Lady Gwen. Marius waited patently at the bottom of the stairs, hands clasped behind his back and hair tousled. He smiled indulgently at all the maids that passed and twittered at him.

A suitor, a suitor! The women of the house were rushing about preparing a proper outfit for the occasion when Effie sat atop her bed in her nightgown, reading some choice literature. Damn those suitors. Effie never had any sort of affinity for their kind. They were far too pretentious and self-indulgent. As her gaze hopped from word to word, her lady's maid, Marjory, tucked and pulled on her hair to braid it into a bonnet of sorts. Her fiery hair, when not properly tended to properly, was wild to say the least. "This one's about a woman pirate. And she has bested most men who have crossed her path," Effie remarks smugly to Marjory. Marjory promptly tears the book from Effie's grasp and tosses it aside. "Damn those books! Pardon my language, but what will the mister and missus think of me if you continue to read those retched things?"

Effie lets out a groan, rolling over to retrieve her book as Marjory tears away to bring in her dress. Effie flips through the pages to try and find where she was before Marjory so rudely interrupted. However, Marjory quickly returns and Effie drops her book. Getting into a 'proper' outfit was certainly an ordeal and it never became easier with age. They continued to pile on layers to make this seem smaller or that seem bigger. It used to be optional when she was still in her younger years and Effie did often opt out of it. But now there was no choice. She was forced to endure the tying and tugging and other things she was certain were a form of torture.

But soon enough she was deemed decent. Marjory escorted Effie to the top of the stairs where she was under the watchful eye of a few naval officers who claimed to be family friends. Effie descends the stairs gracefully, her hand just ghosting the railing for support. She forces her best smile as if this weren't the most excruciating moment of her day. "Ah, you must be my newest suitor. I don't believe your name has crossed my father's lips before. Or my own, for that matter. What did you say it was again?"

He gave a short bow. "Marius Wolff, my lady. A pleasure to meet you." He held out his hand to help her down the last few steps.

You can say what you want about Marius but his mother had brought him up with proper manners. He knew how to treat a woman or a lady and how to dine with the King himself. Granted, he never got the opportunity, due to his life style.

He smiled at Gwen. "You look lovely this evening. May I escort you to the Parlor?" He asked, holding his arm for her to take. His sky-blue eyes twinkled. He'd have to warn his crew away from her, she was too pretty for her own good.

She places her hand in his after a small hesitation, taking the last few stairs slowly. She wasn't too keen on strangers having a grasp on any part of her body. "The pleasure is all mine, Lord Wolff. You may indeed." She takes his arm, finding her gaze drifting off to other things that caught her attention. Forcing herself to refocus as they walked, she tries to recall all the advice she was given for being a proper woman. Stand straight. Hold your head high. Chest out. Stomach in. It was exhausting just taking a few steps when she had to be Lady Gwendolyn and not Effie. She had been Effie for far too long for Lady Gwendolyn to come naturally to her.

Marius smiled. Leaning he closer, he whispered. "Those navel officers look ready to take my head off. Any chance of calling them off?" He looked back to see they had followed them into the Parlor. He grimaced. Caden was at the ship, ready to secure her once Marius got her there. He turned back to Gwen. She really was beautiful. Marius supposed if his mother had been alive, he might have actually been her suitor. Her Fire-red hair curled enticingly as they escaped her elaborate up-do. He shifted discreetly as he led her to a sette. Then he sat across from her.

"Calling them off? If I had that option, they wouldn't be here in the first place." She hears a distinct hpmf from behind them at her comment. Looking over her shoulder, she smirks at the pair following now ever closer behind her and Marius. She drums her fingers on the wrist of her other as she takes a seat across from the stranger. She studies his features for a moment, her gaze raking over his outfit. Her smile ghosts a threat of becoming a smirk once again but she decides to keep her manners intact. "So go on. Give me your best spiel. What makes you any different from the hundreds of other men that meander to my doorstep and ask for my hand?"

He chuckles. "Well...I'm almost never home...and my...extended family is fairly...amusing." He smirked. "Not to mention, I go on many adventures and I'd be willing to let you accompany me. I also have enough...money to sustain you and any...children we might have." He held out his hands. "Plus, I'm devilishly handsome." He pulled out a clock from his pocket. "we have some time if you'd like to see my ship." He looked to the two men, asking permission silently. "I'll keep her safe in the streets. It's not yet dark."

The mentioned of a ship had certainly peaked her interest. Even if it happen to be an extension of the local naval supply, a ship was a ship was a chance to run away. And to Effie's 'personal guards,' it was the same. Meaning that there was no chance in hell she'd ever get to run off that easily. The pair look to each other before looking back to Wolff, stating a firm "No," in unison with a nod. Effie groans softly at the two under her breath. Always ruining the fun, those two.

Marius shrugged. "Maybe just a walk in the garden, if my Lady is not opposed?" He stood and offered his hand. He kept his wrist covered by his sleeve, least the pirate brand be revealed. As he stood, there was a knock on the front door, causing Marius to grin. Probably Caden, come to distract the rest of the house so Marius could steel away Lady Gwen.
