ALMOST CHRISTMAS
“Ah, there’s nothing quite as romantic as the holiday season is there?”

“I don’t think so! The winter holidays just have a special way of connecting people.”

“Maybe it’s all the presents!”

“No way! It’s just true love!”

The panel of love experts and celebrities bantered back and forth as the large screens in front of them started to turn on and showed the inside of various houses. The residents seemed to be up and getting ready to start the day, breakfast on the stove, and warm drinks in hand, it just seemed like a normal morning for them.

“Do you think they know what’s going on today?”

“Tsk, how could they know? They haven’t gotten the envelopes yet! You have to be patient and wait!”

“Look! The mailman just dropped them off!”

“Keke the mailman? That’s just Jungwoo-ssi! And look, he wore his house slippers out!”

Laughter filled the observation room as the six individuals got comfortable in their seats, pads of paper and pens ready to jot down notes about the various celebrities on the other side of the screens. They watched like hawks as brilliant red envelopes were placed inside the mailboxes, a golden thread tied around them, making it look like a present. It only took about ten minutes before a cast member popped outside to grab the mail, similar curious expressions on each one’s face. Jinyoungi from the Crane House was the first, then Na-ri from the Lotus House, Ha-rin from the Swan House, and finally Minsoo from the Butterfly House. Once back inside their respective houses, they each began to read the contents of the mission letter.

“Dear Paper House Contestants,
We are pleased to announce that today, December 15th, will be your first official love mission! Now we understand it’s only been two weeks since you moved into the Paper Village so you may not have a special someone to partner up with, so we made today’s mission a group one instead. You shall be Santa’s helpers today and you will be delivering presents and spreading cheer to the community of Jinhae! So wear your warmest and nicest clothes and prepare to hand out presents and sing wonderful carols to those in the community. Participation is mandatory unless you are sick or injured! Our staff members will be waiting for you at the entrance of the Paper Village with vans to take you downtown to the community center where you will start to work!
The two cast members who get the highest ratings from the community members will be rewarded with special, exclusive spa vouchers at the Eden Valley Ski Resort.
Happy Holidays & Best of Luck,
Paper House”

Today's mission is volunteering at the local community center of Jinhae. There the cast members will be gifted lists of houses where they will have to go and drop off presents. They will be Santa's helpers and are there to help bring cheer to those who are on the lists. These can range from children to the elderly. Present deliveries will begin at 11 AM and conclude around 1PM. After presents, the cast will be allowed to take a break, get food, and warm up before they have to go back out at 5PM for Christmas Caroling. All the community members are going to be giving feedback about the cast members and the two who have the most positive reviews will be rewarded with spa vouchers for the nearby ski resort. There they will be able to go on a luxury date and be able to get to know each other a bit more!

remember, don't put all your eggs in one basket. it's bad for your heart.

the lotus house

dae hyun (messaged him) nali_ nali_

Two weeks on the set of Paper House and already Mi-jin’s expectations had been exceeded. Words exchanged late at night, anonymous text messages, and hidden kisses, well, she did not expect that to be something she would be going through before Christmas. The cast was well stacked and she was interested in a couple of people immediately, quite forwardly spending time with them one-on-one whenever she could, trying to get a feel for what they were like. One in particular seemed to be just as interested in her as she was with him. His easy-going smiles and forward words were refreshing to the model and soon she found herself entangled in a complicated dance.

Her sharp gaze often was focused on people he was talking to and she felt the need to ask him if he planned on going out with the other women, but only so she could arrange her own dates. If you asked her what she thought of him, she would say he was intriguing and had a fun personality but she rarely would expand on what went on between them. Though she was sure that the texts shared between the pair would be aired on the next episode. Personally, she didn’t want to explain a certain hallway interaction, but she was sure that someone would ask her about it. If it wasn’t the hosts of the show, it would be her competition. Was she right to call them her competition? She didn’t know.

Dark tresses were easily pulled back into a low bun, a few strands falling around her face and framing her features perfectly. Minimal makeup was applied before she stepped out of her bedroom, the scent of warm spices wafting gently from her as she passed the various bedrooms and went towards the kitchen. The Lotus house was stacked with pretty confident celebrities, half of whom were popular actors. She wasn’t disappointed in who she was housed with and enjoyed the unique dynamics.

Upon entering the kitchen, she helped herself to some yogurt and coffee and relaxed, not really paying much attention to the hustle and bustle of her housemates. That was until Na-ri started to read the day’s mission out loud. Santa’s little helpers? This was like a mission from Hell for her. She wasn’t exactly the warmest looking person with strangers and she had her polite smile called forced one too many times to be comfortable with doing it for prolonged periods of time. “Well, I’m definitely not going to win those spa vouchers.” Her voice was even and a ghost of a smirk seemed to show before it was hidden behind her taking a sip of her iced drink.

Without skipping a moment, the woman pulled out her phone and sent a quick text message. It was part of routine at this point and she figured there was no reason to pretend it wasn’t. This was a dating show after all.

“Did you hear about the mission? The reward is a spa date but there’s no way I will be winning.”

the butterfly house

everyone who eats his meals

Honestly, he was up earlier than even the hosts of the show were in the studio recording their own portions of the show. In fact, he was up before most, if not all, of the cast and unfortunately, that was just his routine. But he found comfort in the silent house, a cup of tea in one hand and a book in the other, he would sit on the couch and enjoy the few hours of quiet before everyone started waking up and asking for breakfast. It often snowed during the early hours, providing a much-appreciated winter wonderland vibe for him to indulge in.

But two weeks in a strange home, befriending celebrities that he had occasionally run into in the past, was interesting, to say the least. But he wasn’t complaining. He had grown used to the exciting environment of the dating show and he liked all of the contestants. Granted, most of them were about ten years his junior but he found it fun to talk to them and learn about what they liked and got to support them in their endeavors. One person in particular seemed to be constantly by his side without him asking her to be, and he didn’t mind. Although she did seem to disappear every time he tried to deliberately seek her out.

A previous coworker, Minsoo had grown into a precious friend and junior that Dae-hwan was more than happy to take care of. When he found out about her love of homecooked meals, he found himself offering to make her favorite dishes when he had spare time and after two weeks of that, it became second nature. Their shoulders were often pressed together in the kitchen before her voice would loudly squeak about forgetting something and she would disappear for a few minutes. Dae-hwan’s affection for this sort of thing only seemed to grow as they stayed in the same house, causing much of their downtime to overlap with each other.

He enjoyed how energetic and full of life she was, a great contrast to many of the people he dated previous to the show. Though their age gap was a bit jarring for him, he had warmed up to the comfortable language between them, but she still had a bit to go in terms of getting used to him. A small smile formed on his lips before he closed his book and finished his drink, the empty mug held firmly in his hand as he made his way to the small kitchen.

Dae-hwan wasted little time in preparing breakfast for those who had grown used to his meals, the knife moving comfortably, the smells of cooking food wafting through the house with ease. It didn’t take long before the residents began to make their way to the dining area, all talking about trivial things, some of them even taking a peak at what he was making. He was right in the middle of serving everyone their soegogi-muguk when the melodic voice of Minsoo danced across the air. “Ahh we’re having a mission today? Make sure to dress warmly.”

His voice was smooth and warm as he dusted his hands off on his apron before he took it off and began to dish up his own meal. “Drink plenty of warm things today too, I don’t want anyone getting sick from being outside! Okay?”

Lee Minsoo.
"Lee Minsoo, please check the mailbox." Minsoo glanced up from where she was sitting in front of her mirror.

"Hold on, I'm almost done!" With a quick swipe of mascara, she stood up, tripping over her feet as she slid open her door, catching herself with the handle so she didn't go face first into the ground. She didn't bother to put a coat on, swinging open the door and walking outside.

"Wow. Never seen such a pretty mailbox." She hummed, pulling it open and grabbing the envelope. "Wait, do I have to read this out loud?" She turned towards one of the camera's and it moved up and down, signaling a yes. She gave a thumbs up and headed back inside, following the scent of breakfast in the air. As soon as she turned the corner she locked eyes with Dae-Hwan and immediately looked away, avoiding eye contact as she walked in, though the camera could see her red ears.

"Look what I got." She started to read the contents aloud to those around her, leaning against the counter next to Dae-Hwan. "I-I will." She turned red at his words, "You too. Who would take care of us if you got sick?" She gave him a soft smile, before, literally, bouncing away from him to go sit down. Dae-Hwan was someone she never had expected to see when she first arrived. She had a very obvious crush on him since they had done their project together, and everyone was pretty aware of it but him, even her fans had noticed it. She had even blatantly once hinted on a livestream once that she had a crush on one of her coworkers. Though, everyone took it as either Hakyeon or Jinyoung and she just rolled with it. He made her comfortable and took care of her, and was just a wonderful guy in general, she couldn't help but fall harder every time he was near. Her thoughts were broken as Jinyoung walking in, fresh out of the shower after a workout, and he flicked her on the forehead as he walked by and she glared at him.

"I'll break your finger." She mouthed to him, before putting the sweet smile on her lips once more. He just chuckled and continued past her, "I'm borrowing your straightener." He called and she shrugged, "Go ahead."

"What carols do you two want to do?" She turned to look at both Dae-Hwan and Areum curiously. Honestly, she wasn't super worried about the competition. She didn't know about winning people over, but there were only a couple of people in the house who were idols/singers and she happened to be one of them. This was something familiar and comfortable to her. Her whole job was to dance and sing for other's enjoyment, so this shouldn't be too hard right?

Kang Jinyoung.
"Kang Jinyoung, please check the mailbox."

Jinyoung glanced up as the intercom played, before rubbing his hair with the towel once more before tossing it in the wash. As he went by the kitchen he grabbed his protein shake, taking a sip. Chocolate banana today, his least favorite. He made a disgusted face but continued to drink as he walked out the door. He walked down the driveway towards the mailbox, not saying a word. He pulled it open, investigating the contents inside before pulling out the letter.

"Caroling?" He turned to glance at the camera. "As long as I can leave the dancing to somebody else I guess." He mumbled, and as he pulled the mailbox lid up, felt a pop and looked down. He held the handle to the box in his hand. His face showed complete confusion as he looked between the box and then the camera, back and forth for a few seconds before he attempted to fix it. Though after a minute he just gave up, setting the handle in the mailbox.

"Sorry PD." He said, bowing towards the camera's. "I'll pay for it?" He tried but the camera just moved up and down quickly, trying to get him away from the poor mailbox he was destroying. His cheeks dusted pink and he quickly apologized again before running inside.

"Hakyeon, Eunji." He called as he entered the foyer, heading towards the kitchen. "We've got a mission." Once the two found their way into the kitchen, he started reading the letter aloud to them, setting it down on the counter once he finished.

"I hope you guys are good at dancing because I can't." He cringed, flashbacks of the Troublemaker cover he did with Minsoo flashing in his mind for a brief moment.

"I'm gonna go see them at the butterfly house and get some of Dae-Hwan's food, I'll see you guys in a bit if you're coming over?" He ran a hand through his curls before fist bumping Hak-yeon and heading outside again. He stopped for a brief second and pulled out his phone, hesitating for a second and hovering over a certain contact until he worked up the courage.

"Na-ri, will you be at the butterfly house for breakfast? Also, did you hear about the mission?" He hit send before slipping his phone back into his pocket and heading inside the butterfly house. The first thing he did of course was flick Minsoo, he had been there for about half a second and was already tired of watching her pining. He stuck out his tongue at her threat and headed back towards her room.

"Gonna use your straightener." He didn't wait for a response, walking into her bedroom and grabbing the straightener. To anyone else it may have looked weird, but to them this was normal. They shared mostly everything and she often stole his foam massagers. He sat on the floor and straightened his hair carefully, wincing once in awhile when his hands would slip and his fingers would make contact with the hot plate. Once he finished, he unplugged it and walked back out to go grab his food from Dae-Hwan.

"Thank you!" He said happily taking the plate, "You're the best hyung!"

Hyunsoo couldn't believe that two weeks had already passed since he entered the Paper House. Upon his arrival, he was amazed by the presence of numerous celebrities and even a chaebol. Even Hyunsoo's mentor was taken aback by the star-studded cast. However, it took a while for Hyunsoo to get used to being filmed almost every day, as the film crew and PD were always present during the filming scene.

Although everyone felt comfortable and at home in the presence of the crew, Hyunsoo was quite awkward, especially at first. He was the one who was probably cut out the most in the previous episodes, but he didn't mind it until his mentor suggested that he needed to change his approach. Otherwise, it would seem like he was just an extra on the set.

Hyunsoo had never been part of a reality show before, so this was a new experience for him. He had to learn how to be himself on camera, without the help of being in character or script. He recognized that this was like another acting gig, but this time, he was playing himself. The crew were all kind, delightful, and intriguing individuals, which made it easier for Hyunsoo to step out of his comfort zone and try to participate in some things.

Hyunsoo heard an exchange outside of his bedroom, which roused him up. He was a light sleeper, which came in handy in situations like this because he didn't want to miss out on any interactions between the cast members. He gradually got up from the bed and rubbed his eyes, while his messy hair fell on his face. He was wearing a simple T-shirt and a black pair of sweats as he grasped his clothes and towel to head to the bathroom.

*************************************************************
Hyunsoo got dressed and ready for the day, he could hear Na-ri's confident voice coming from the kitchen. The cold morning air made him put his hands in his pocket as he walked down to join the others. He stood at the end of the table and listened as Na-ri announced the mission for the day. The words "Santa's helpers" stood out to him, and he felt a sense of excitement mixed with nervousness.

Hyunsoo had always enjoyed volunteering, but he couldn't help but worry about the potential chaos of so many people talking at once. As he imagined himself handing out presents to the elderly, he could almost feel their hands caressing his own as they shared stories and memories. Hyunsoo loved to listen and talk to others, but he knew that he wasn't always the most outspoken member of the group. He sometimes struggled to find the right moment to interject, worried that he might accidentally interrupt someone else's conversation. Despite these concerns, he was determined to make the day a success and bring joy to those who needed it most.

As he looked towards the butterfly house, he saw the door open, indicating that Dae-hwan was awake. Dae-hwan was always very welcoming to him, which reminded him of his mentor, Kim Jeongmin, who had a similar aura around him. Hyunsoo appreciated Dae-hwan's company and the food that he made.

As soon as Na-ri finished announcing the mission, Hyunsoo took out his phone and sent a message to the group chat.

"Thank you and good morning everyone. I'll be taking my leave to the butterfly house" Hyunsoo bowed, his eyes fixed on his phone screen before turning his attention towards his housemates.

He quickly slipped his phone back into his pocket and hurried off to his destination, sliding the doors open as he made his way down the butterfly house.

The smell of Soegogi-muguk wafted through the air as he entered the butterfly house. Hyunsoo could see that Dae-hwan was busy preparing breakfast for everyone.

"I have arrived." He announced his presence to the group, bowing as he made his way to the table where Dae-hwan was passing out breakfast. It was always a habit of his to announce himself in any place because his mother taught him to be polite and appropriate to everyone and anyone.

In a small white bowl with a side of rice and kimchi, was a beautiful presentation of radish and beef. The steam was still coming out from the little bowl as he bowed to Dae-Hwan, thanking him for his breakfast as usual. He took one bite and lit a large smile on his face, closing his eyes and savoring the taste of the food before he allowed Dae-hwan to finish speaking.

"Dae-Hwan hyung," Hyunsoo spoke while he took another bite of rice with Kimchi. "You wouldn't believe this, but--" He continued to chew a couple of bites before gulping the rest down, "I had a dream about you. You were in this zombie apocalypse and you had a daughter with you." He then laughed, "Of course, you were married in your dreams, so I'm hoping that's a good sign that you will find someone here, eventually and hopefully?" he chuckled.

He took another sip of the Soegogi-muguk, feeling content and happy with where he was.

" “Happy Holidays & blah blah blah-“

The increasingly unamused tone dipped into annoyance as Nari dropped the expensive feeling card-stock onto the polished countertop. Being Santa’s helper and giving back to the community actually excited her, but the combination of having to put up with Siwoo whilst holding her tongue definitely took away the initial excitement that colored her mood.

Mi-Jin’s remark had the corner of Nari’s lips turning up in response as a warm chuckle eased the tension building in her jaw, “Well, you won’t do any worse than Siwoo, that’s guaranteed.” A devious grin took purchase upon her lips as she paired her “light” jabs with a playful wink towards Mi-Jin before bowing out of the kitchen and heading back towards her room.

The past two weeks had been nothing like she expected. The amount of support she received from both the producers of the show and a few of the cast members had quickly eased her anxieties about thrusting herself back into the limelight. Initially, Nari was surprised by how attractive and mostly, likable everyone was, especially considering some of their fame and success, and in the case of Daehyun, his disgusting wealth. All-in-all, Nari was enjoying her time getting to know everyone, and especially so enjoying her time getting to know a particular someone.

Nari’s daydreaming was interrupted as the chime of her phone paused her lipgloss application. A smile tugged at her lips as she read the message from the resident teddy bear before quickly responding.

hmm… I’ll consider stopping by for breakfast. I wish we could have chosen our Helper groups, mine feels like I’m being punished 😭

Nari applied the finishing touches to her appearance before pocketing her phone and once again leaving her room. This time, instead of an half-asleep gremlin trekking through the Lotus House, it was a well-groomed and presentable human being.

“I’ll be back for the mission. Don’t miss me too much.” Nari called out with an exaggerated blown kiss to whoever would listen to her. There was an eager pep in her step as she did her best to refrain from skipping her merry way down to the Butterfly House. Even outside of the building she could hear the warm chattering and laughter, and felt a bit envious at the liveliness that frequented the location.

Nari entered the house silently, and tried her best to sneak into the shared living space filled with various members of the cast. A particular boisterous giant had her full attention as she took advantage of his current distracted and seated state to sneak up behind him. Swiftly she covered his eyes with her hands and leaned forward to whisper in her lowest possible tone,” Jinyoung, Guess who~” to the rest of the bodies in the room she looked up and offered them all a warm smile, and even dared sneak in a quick eyebrow waggle to Minnie who was “coincidentally” nearest to Dae-hwan.

the swan house

jinyoung houseplant houseplant

Fresh snowflakes settled themselves on petite shoulders and gentle waves of dark brown as she walked down the long driveway, her bags full, warm breath curling in the air. Her face was flushed from the cold but a small smile played on her lips as she hummed, thinking about various things. It had been a while since she had been in the public eye, and even longer since she had been a cast member of a reality show. It was fun but for her, it was a lot slower than for others in the cast. She was often in the background, a gentle smile on her face, and words of encouragement and advice leaving her. But she didn’t mind. Seeing the small crushes and admiration that her costars were holding for each other made her extremely happy.

So she did her best to support everyone, including the hardworking staff that was watching over everyone. It wasn’t unheard of for Ara to go to the local market in the mornings and return with snacks, red ginseng tonics, and groceries, so this day was no different. Finally reaching the Paper Village, she went to the Butterfly house first, knocking the snow off her shoes and shaking it off her clothes as she wandered inside. “Good morning everyone~” Her voice was soft and warm as she approached the busy dining room, the smell of freshly made soup and shampoos heavy in the air.

“Ah, Jinyoung-ssi, I got you the chicken you asked for, so I’ll leave it here in the fridge for you.” As more people poured in, she moved past Dae-hwan, smiling at her close friend, and went to the fridge, carefully putting in some of the groceries and snacks that she had purchased for the always-hungry group of celebrities. It was noisy and warm, much like a family during the holidays, and it was pleasant. But the nice quiet atmosphere of her own home sounded enjoyable so she quickly greeted those she could and excused herself from the Butterfly house.

Careful steps through the snow, she wandered across the courtyard to the Swan house, the silence being a warm welcome to her. She shook off her coat and scarf before she hung them up and began to wander through the house. Making her way to the kitchen, Ara began to warm up some water to make herself tea and unpacked the rest of her things into the pantry and fridge. A small bag of freshly baked goods was swiftly pulled out and she smiled, mostly to herself, but the camera caught every second of it.

With a hot cup of tea, and warm pastries on a plate, Ara eased herself into one of the chairs in the dining room and quietly did some work on her phone. She browsed through various products of her brand and the reviews that they had gotten recently. She was meticulous with her business and she wanted to produce things that people genuinely enjoyed. But after a bit of work, she started to look at knitting patterns, mostly so she could start another project while she was filming Paper House.

“Good morning everyone!” Her voice was soft and warm as she approached the busy dining room, the smell of freshly made soup and shampoos heavy in the air.

Jinyoung watched as more and more people poured into the Butterfly house, ready for a homecooked meal from their favorite chef. He smiled softly, taking a small bite of his own food as he listened in on the conversations around him.

He didn't notice the footsteps behind him, and nearly jumped out of his seat when his eyes were suddenly covered. As a voice whispered in his ear though, a small smile played on his lips.

"I wonder who?" He said softly, before his hands reached up, gently taking the ones on his eyes and pulling her foreword so her arms wrapped around him, and her head was close to his, and then without a second though, pressed a kiss to her cheek,

"I caught you~" He sand softly, giving her a big grin. As Ara spoke he glanced up,

"Thank you so much!" He said happily, giving her a big smile before turning his gaze to Na-ri.

"How did you sleep?" Jinyoung asked her softly, letting go of her so she could move away if she wanted to, smiling softly at her. His eyes were full of warmth as he stared at her, acting as if there was nobody else in the room with them.

Something about being part of this reality show still made Ha-Rin feel a bit overwhelmed. It wasn’t that it was demanding, or that she felt uncomfortable with the rest of the members. Perhaps it was that even if all of them fell under the category of celebrities, she didn’t particularly feel like they were in the same realm. Don’t get her wrong—it wasn’t like she felt inferior towards the others. She felt proud of her achievements and her job and all that it took to be able to do it. However, in terms of handling being put in the spotlight, she felt a bit like a fish out of water.

Despite that difference, everyone in the program made her feel welcomed and at ease. And if she was being honest, there was already a certain someone who was making her heart race a bit. The identity of the person? Well, that would be a secret until she knew things would work out between them.

But just as the news anchor was trying to channel her inner strength to experience this new filming day, she was instead instructed to go and pick up the mail. Curiosity took over the girl. After all, so far, their time in the Paper House had been pretty peaceful. Was this some kind of change to make the viewers and the participants be at the edge of their seats? Maybe that was a bit extreme, but she was sure this meant something would happen that day.

As she rushed to pick up the mail, once she was back inside the house, Ha-Rin noticed that Ara was back from the local market. Despite the difference in their careers, Ha-Rin found in Ara someone that she could rely on and look up to, even if their time of knowing each other had been quite short until now.
“Unnie, you arrived just in time! Seems we have a challenge today. But it doesn’t start until later. Although I am already dreading the thought of having to sing in front of other people,”
Ha-Rin said with a small shrug.

Ha-Rin, Ara, Mi-Jin

The air was cold, accentuating Daehyun’s physical exertion with every frozen exhale he made. The neighborhood was quiet like it always was before the sun rose above the horizon. Despite the tranquility around him, thoughts barreled through his mind, and anxiety slithered across his nerves. The only way to expel that anxious worry was driving his feet to strike the asphalt faster, and faster.

There was no real rhyme or reason to what he was feeling, but he knew running or swimming always put it to rest… and more recently the pretty brown eyes of a new “friend”. Reflexively, Daehyun’s fingertips brushed over his bottom lip, and the memory of a few nights ago flashed in his mind, drawing a smile to his face and him on a path home.

The warmth of the Swan House was a welcome reprieve from the bitter cold that nipped his cheeks red. Dae left his shoes at the door and made his way to the kitchen to quench the thirst burning in his throat. Leaning against the counter as he sipped at his glass of water he glanced around at his temporary residence, seeing traces of the people he shared this space with.

The past two weeks had been nothing short of a whirlwind. Though Daehyun’s was grateful to have a couple of familiar faces in the house and to bond with the other almost right off the bat. Navigating the dating aspect of their situations was awkward at first, especially considering the brotherhood he formed with the male residents. Though, at this point, he suspects he wouldn’t care about stepping on someone’s toes for the woman who was making fast work of running away with his heart.

Daehyun’s daily routine carried on, pulling him from the kitchen, and to his bedroom where he showered and donned the day’s luxury branded outfit. By the time he was emerging from his room, the sun had risen, his phone had pinged several times, and the familiar voices of his housemates carried down the hallway.

“You talk in front of millions of people every day, singing can’t be that much harder.” Daehyun’s chipped in, a small playful smile tugging at his lips as he looped a comfortable arm around Ha-Rin’s shoulders. Their history wasn’t intensive, but they had been intertwined in each other’s lives since they were children, and Daehyun’s was honestly glad for this chance to get to know Ha-rin properly, and having a blast doing so.

“Noona, you’re spoiling us again?” Dae-hyun’s attention was grabbed by the pastries Ara set out on the countertop. Unslinging his arm from Ha-rin, grabbing up a warm pastry and finding his hip purchase against free counter space. A bite into the soft treat made him groan with satisfaction, nodding in agreement with his tastebuds as he used his free hand to scroll through his phone. A smile spread onto his face at the message he received from a certain Ice Queen cast member and he was quick to respond.

the butterfly house

The Butterfly House was soon buzzing with excitement and noise as the cast from the various houses began to pour inside, their voices overlapping as they childishly argued and talked about the missions while stuffing their faces with breakfast. Dae-hwan had managed to get himself a bowl of soup and a seat at the table, his shoulder occasionally brushing against Minsoo’s as they sat next to each other, similar expressions on their faces. “Ah, I would hope you would at least take me to the clinic so I get better!” His voice was teasing as he grinned, washing it away with a bite of food.

“Hyunsoo-ah, good morning. Please eat as much as you’d like!” He smiled as the younger actor entered the house and made himself busy getting some food. The boy had been such an enjoyable part of the show as Dae-hwan found him to be endearing, much like a younger brother he never had. He couldn’t help but feel a bit like a dad or older brother towards Hyunsoo so he made sure to watch out for him and spend time with him when he wanted. There was never a dull moment with all of the people that were gathered around the breakfast table.

At the mention of his name, Dae-hwan looked at Hyunsoo and listened carefully, his eyebrows raising slightly as a charming smile broke out on his face. “Wow, that sounds like a movie I should do! Are you sure you don’t want to be a director Hyunsoo-ah?” The prospect of being married and having a child made the veteran actor’s stomach flutter slightly, mostly because he felt that future was slipping away ever so slightly. “I hope your dream was a sign for me though, that would be very nice. I will give you plenty of credit if I get married, I promise!” Holding up his pinkie for a moment, he returned to eating and then looked at Minsoo again, not wanting to leave her out of the conversation.

“I don’t sing carols that often so I’ll have to follow your lead. Do you have any favorites?” Leaning back in his chair a bit, he took a proper look at her, trying to gauge how she was feeling about the mission and everything in between. She always seemed to be reserved about what she was feeling when he asked her but he was determined to break through that wall a bit more. But as he looked at the nation’s little sister, more people seemed to pour into the house, specifically Ara and Nari, one bringing groceries and the other bringing flirting.

“Aigoo… don’t rough house near the table you kids, I don’t need Jinyoung knocking something over from getting startled!” He slightly scolded Nari and Jinyoung but did not say too much as he knew the pair were incredibly wrapped up in their own world and everything else normally fell upon deaf ears. He got up to dish up more food for the newer arrivals and shared a brief conversation with Ara in the kitchen as she dropped groceries off before leaving to go back to her own house.

Checking his watch, he set a quick alarm for when he would start gathering up the kids to head out to the staff’s vans and participate in the mission as he couldn’t trust them to keep track of time. After that was squared away, he made himself and Minsoo a cup of warm tea, easily bringing the warmed mug to her and setting it down without saying much. He simply returned to the conversations that were at hand, enjoying the warm atmosphere that had been created.

Every time their shoulders brushed, she felt her cheeks heat up. Thank god for the power of makeup. Though her ears were bright red.

"Of course, Oppa. I'd take good care of you." She grinned at him, taking a small bite of her food. Her diet was gonna be completely thrown out of the window while living here. As Hyunsoo walked in, she gave him a friendly smile. Hyunsoo had shown how much he adored Daehwan and frankly, she found it cute herself, so she never cut in on the two's time together and let them have fun on their own. As they talked, she glanced around the kitchen, turning bright red as she met Na-ri's eyes and she wiggled her eyebrows at her and Daehwan. She stuck her tongue out back at her and then made a face at the two's display of affection, before turning back to Daehwan once he addressed her.

"I like simple ones, they're usually the most popular, like Jingle Bells. It's easier because everyone knows them already. It's alright, I will lead you. Count on me!" She patted her chest with a big smile at him. He was just too kind. She noticed him set an alarm, a small smile playing on her lips. He always took charge and took care of everyone, and she admired him dearly. It made her fall harder and harder every time. 'God he's so fucking cute', she mouthed towards one of the camera's hiding her mouth from Daehwan. If everyone hadn't been there, she might've quite literally squealed.

As he set the warm tea down in front of her, she beamed at him, pulling the cup to her lips instantly, blowing on it softly and taking a sip. She hissed at it slightly burned her, but continued to sip before setting it back down.

"Thank you." She whispered to him. She felt special in that moment. He didn't give it to anyone else but her, and that only helped raise her spirits. She had spent the last two weeks thinking he only say her as a close junior, but the little things like this were starting to help her gain confidence in her advances. She stood up after taking a few more sips, bringing the mug with her in her hand. She placed her other hand on his shoulder and leaned down closer to his ear so he could hear her over the voices around them.

"I'm gonna go get ready, thank you for breakfast and the tea." Her arm slipped around him easily in a quick half hug, before she-quite literally- ran off down the hall.

Mi-jin nodded in agreement to Na-ri’s comment and waved both the singer and actor goodbye as they left, the Lotus House growing incredibly quiet. With a slight purse of her lips, she grabbed some snacks from the cupboard, iced coffee, and her phone before she headed towards the living room of the house. She got comfortable on the couch, pulled her legs up onto it, and set all of her coffee and snacks down on the coffee table. It didn’t take long until she was casually sprawled across the furniture, the TV playing a show quietly in the background. Her phone pinged which caused her to look down at it.

A soft scoff left her as she read the message, the corners of her mouth raising ever so slightly. “Is he crazy? Acting like I don’t text anyone else… Tsk.” She clicked her tongue, clearly in denial about being exposed immediately by Dae Hyun. Her fingers danced quickly across the device’s screen, dark eyes trained on the small text bubbles that appeared every time he started typing a response. “Wah… this guy is seriously…” Unable to finish verbalizing her thoughts to the camera and audience of judges, Mi-jin continued the light flirtatious banter, though on her end the texts were a bit dry but coy.

It didn’t seem to phase Dae Hyun as he confidently accepted her invitation to come over and even called her a brand new pet name. Her eyes widened slightly and Mi-jin couldn’t help but place a hand over her mouth as she let out a stuttered laugh, clearly as flustered as someone as composed as her could manage. She would never admit it but she could feel her pride swelling at the compliment, even though that wasn’t necessarily a good thing. But still, she couldn’t let such flattery go unrewarded so she found herself uncharacteristically responding to him before quickly clicking out of the app, planting the phone face down on the couch cushion.

Panic set in as she realized Dae Hyun would be coming over within a few minutes most likely so she did her best to make the living room presentable, even properly dishing up the snacks in a bowl and sitting on the couch normally. She could feel her heart flutter slightly in her chest but as she fixed her loose strands of hair with slender fingers, she forced herself to calm down, silently praying that the minimal makeup would be enough to hide any form of flush to her face. “Ahh, my mom is going to call me when this airs and make fun of me, I can feel it.” Her fingers nervously curled around a pillow as she held it across her lap, her eyes focused on the TV screen in front of her, desperate to keep herself from staring at the front door, wanting to keep herself sane, at least for a little bit longer.

the swan house

“Ha-Rin ah! Good morning, sorry I left so early, I wanted to get you guys some treats before the market got too crowded.” She smiled warmly at the news reporter and leaned her elbows on the table, looking at the younger woman, listening to everything she was saying. “Ah, a mission? Mm, I can relate to that, I get nervous when I sing. I used to do it for some variety shows and I always got such clammy hands because of it.” A soft laugh left Ara as she nodded her head, memories of previous challenges from variety shows flashing through her mind.

“But I don’t think you have anything to be worried about! Even if you get too nervous to sing, I’m sure that just your pretty looks will make people feel really happy. It’s like its own present.” Soon a male voice cut through the air and she laughed a bit as Dae Hyun entered the kitchen, reassuring Ha-Rin that she could indeed sing for the challenge. Humming in agreement, Ara leaned back in her seat, her cup of tea clutched tightly in her hands. “If all else fails, use him as a distraction.” The actress gestured to Dae Hyun in a teasing way as he interacted with Ha-Rin. Their relationship seemed comfortable and they were very nice housemates for Ara, never pressing her for too much or causing problems. Plus she was interested in their love lives and had eagerly watched their segments in the episodes that had aired so far.

The question about spoiling them made her smile and nod her head, clearly not hiding it. “Of course, you’re my housemates so I want to keep you happy and eating lots of yummy things. Feel free to help yourself, I’ve already had some!” She was pleased to watch both of them settle into their morning routines, much of which consisted of messaging other cast members. Ara was curious, she always was, but luckily she would find out the details when the episodes aired and she was able to see what everyone else was up to.

There was at least one pretty confirmed couple which had made her extremely happy to see and she had even privately sent her congratulations upon seeing them interact so sweetly with each other. Ara truly was everyone’s biggest supporter. But she kept quiet about her own blooming feelings of interest towards one of the cast. His charming smile and reserved nature towards her had immediately caused her to spend multiple nights with him in her living room, quietly watching dramas and just talking to each other.

It was a more recent and private development, one that neither of them really vocalized or talked about with other cast members. It was surprisingly glossed over in earlier episodes, most likely due to how tame it was compared to the rest and simply looked like two people becoming friends. Well, she didn’t mind a little privacy. It was hard to come by when there were cameras in every room, except a select few. Still, she hoped she would at least be able to spend some time with him during the missions to catch up and see what his plans were for the upcoming holidays.

ALMOST CHRISTMAS
“Omo omo! He kissed her! Oh- Yah! That is so romantic and bold! He did it in front of everyone at breakfast? Aigooooo, he’s so in love!”

“Minyoung-ssi, what do you think about that?”

“Well they have obviously been up to a lot behind closed doors and in front of them so I think they will be the first to get married!”

“You don’t think they will date other people?”

“Yah, do you think that Jinyoung looks like he has eyes for anyone else? He is so in love.”

“Do you think Nari is the same? Or is she just testing the waters?”

“Hmmm I think she’s locked in! But she is smart and I could see her keeping her options open!”

“Speaking of options, did you see Minsoo spending some quality time with Hak-yeon and Dae Hyun? It happened before today so I was surprised she got so cozy with Dae-hwan-ssi!! She really has been enjoying spending time with some bachelors!”

“She should! She’s young and popular, she has to find out who is the best partner for her!”

“What about Mi-jin? Do you think she knows?”

“I think she does and I think she’s getting a little insecure about it. Did you see her staying inside and not seeing either of them? I wonder if something happened!”

“Well, hopefully, they will address it during or after becoming Santa’s Helpers!”

Loving moments captured by cameras were soon cut short as everyone scrambled to clean up, change, and get ready to do some charitable activities for the rest of the day. Two vans were brought around and the celebrities piled in, everyone making sure to keep track of who was with whom and that everyone was ready for a day out in the snow. Scattered laughter and festive music played in the vans as hidden fingers were intertwined under the bundle of blankets and coats, and shoulders pressed against each other, desperate for each other’s warmth.

Those small moments seemed to triple as the cast got out of the van, hands being extended to help certain cast members out and onto the ground. The snow crunched beneath boots as everyone was guided into the community center where they were given a rundown of what would happen. Large red bags filled with presents were handed out along with Santa hats, giving everyone that festive look. A digital map was given to them and so the cast began to set out, delivering gifts to houses, the cheer radiating off of them, the hope of winning the mission weighing lightly on their shoulders. Best of luck mini Santas, let’s hope you bring plenty of wonder and cheer to your fans!

I want to spend more time with her, so I hope she feels the same.

the jinhae neighborhood

“What if I said… I’ve always loved you.” Warm breath mixed, eyes barely open, lips trembling as they dared not press together. Then like a surge of undeniable emotions overcame them, they kissed. Hearts pounded in their chests as their feelings finally reached each other, confirming that they had always belonged to each other.

“Okay… CUT!” The sound of the director filled the quiet atmosphere and caused both actors to break away from the kiss, smiles on their faces as they lightly bowed their heads. “Good job! That should be our last scene for today, we will pick back up later this week and if anything changes, we will let you know! Good job today everyone!”

“You did great Hayoung-ah, thank you for your hard work.”
Hak-yeon smiled at his costar before they separated to get changed and ready to leave. Scrolling through his phone, the actor laughed at the multiple messages in the group chat, the chaos that was the Paper House cast never failed to entertain him even when he was filming for work. Quickly he pulled up his private messages and sent one to the woman who he had been focused on since he first met her on day one. Ha-rin. She was a breath of fresh air and laughter that he greatly appreciated. He had quietly moved closer to her with private messages and small gestures, making his way to asking her out on a solo date.

He just didn’t think this would be the morning that he secured one with her. The smile on his face was easily captured by the film camera that had followed him to work, and he tried to hide it behind his hand as he shut off his phone and pocketed it. “I better get going to the center or else I’ll be late.” Hak-yeon changed into his casual clothes (luckily he had been warned about the mission so he dressed appropriately) and headed out with the film crew to the mission location. He was a bit sad that he missed a chaotic morning with the cast as they had become people he enjoyed hanging out with in his free time, but he couldn’t just stop working. Fortunately, even in his absence, he still lingered in her thoughts so that’s all that mattered. Or at least that’s what he told himself.

He was the first of the cast to arrive at the community center so he was set up with a bag of presents and a Santa hat while he chatted with other volunteers, waiting for the rest of the cast to show up. The trademark smile formed on his face when the cars showed up and he enthusiastically greeted everyone. Hugs were hurriedly exchanged with his closest friends Jinyoung and Dae Hyun, along with hushed excited voices as they discussed their mornings and what had gone down for each of them.

He was patient during the instructions and once they were set loose to deliver gifts, he found himself walking confidently over to Ha-rin, a smile on his face despite the nervousness that clutched his heart. “Are you warm enough? If you need hand warmers, I have some just in case.” He patted the pocket of his jacket and walked next to her, careful not to touch their shoulders together too often. “Did you have a nice morning? It sounded like it was pretty chaotic today.”

SIWOO
Cause you'll be on my mind 'til I D-I-E I'm tryna redefine what I see in we But if you plus me equal death and destruction
이시우
Morning came and went like a blur. Like every day in the village, Siwoo awoken, dug around for food to cook or even thefted from the food Daehwan made. It was never a boring morning for him. Always finding time to steal glances at the one women he seemed to find interest in, and always making more room to find time to mess with Minsoo. It was the little things like that; that made life here more than dull. If there wasnt dynamics like that he would've been bored of this place already. And hes more than happy to know that he isnt bored of it, that every day he wakes up with a new mission and a new plan just to talk to her. And most days its failed. They've had run ins, theyve had two complete conversations. Their first meeting where he already knew he was interested, the way she spoke, the way she smiled; the little gleam in her eyes. His heart jumped at it.
He followed orders, commands, listening to the crew at all chances to make sure he didn't make a complete fool of himself. Only typically finding himself in the right place at way too early intervals, but he waited and wait; and soon they were off. He looked dumb always being early; always waiting but he wanted to be impressive, early or on time. But never late. Never ever late; it wasn't a good look and he didn't fit it. But soon enough; he could hear the snow beneath his feet and his eyes were already making the check around for her. And soon, they they fell upon her form and her bright face, and that smile he oh so adored already and couldn't get enough of. Moon Ara. He couldn't help but smile, following the path towards the centre trying not to steal too many glances at her but just enjoying the closeness of being in the same area as her. Who would've though finally finding something you want forever, would make you act so stupid and struggle to find the right words to say? Not Siwoo.
And there he stood with his little santa cap on; holding onto the bag of gifts they handed him. And all he could think about walking out of the centre was working with her. How to approach her, how to speak to her. And then it hit him. Outside the centre down the walk way were flower beds, some of the flowers frozen over. Maybe all he needed was the perfect set up for a little smooth talking and he could open a conversation. His hands moved before his brain could confirm his actions, the santa hat landing on his head as his now free hand snapped a flower from its frozen stem, quickening his pace to catch up with her and this is where he makes his move. He extends his hand with the flower towards her "Good Morning Ara-ssi, found this pretty little flower made me think of you. its beauty is blocked by the ice; but all it needs is a little warms to melt away its cage and set it free." Siwoo smiled at her, nudging her gently in hopes she takes the flower. Please take the flower. "And maybe, we could partner up. Tackling this all together. A spa trip could be like a date if we both win it. Find some time to spend together." He's pushing it hard, but in an environment like this he needs to. He just hopes she doesn't find him weird or anything.

There was this thrill inside Ha-Rin that was making her count down the minutes until the mission started. She still wasn’t so excited about the whole idea of being recorded while singing Christmas carols for it to be broadcast on TV, and don’t get Ha-Rin wrong. The girl could face a camera without even shaking, but when you were put on the spot to do something, you knew you were not 100% confident about actually doing well. It was when she started to doubt herself. So definitely the joy was not coming from it. Although part of that joy came from the idea of helping others and giving back to the community, it warmed her heart, but if she was being honest with herself, the main reason why she couldn’t wait any longer to arrive was because of him.

Despite having known each other for a short amount of time, every day became brighter now that he was part of her life. It was so endearing how their interactions went from the moment they met until this morning when he asked her on a date, that if she wasn’t in front of her housemates, she would be giggling and kicking her feet at the sudden invitation.

The arrival at the location made Ha-Rin’s heart race a little as she exited the van, and that’s when she saw Hak-Yeon. Did her hair look good? Did her clothes not wrinkle? She was overthinking this way too much, and it made her feel hopeless. “Are you warm enough? If you need hand warmers, I have some just in case.” A light smile appeared on Ha-Rin’s face at the concerned words of Hak-Yeon.
“I could always use an extra pair.”

As they walked together, the closeness between the two felt comfortable and nice, and Ha-Rin wished this type of trivial moment could become more frequent. “Did you have a nice morning? It sounded like it was pretty chaotic today.” Ha-Rin let out a small chuckle.
“Yes, it was kind of fun. Dae-Hwan Oppa made breakfast for everyone and they were in a good mood because of the mission. It seems everyone is in good spirits because of it, although I did miss that you weren’t there during the morning. I know you were busy, but now that we have seen each other, it has cheered me up!”
Ha-Rin admitted, embarrassed.
“Let’s not talk more about me. How was the shooting? Did you shoot a romantic or a dramatic scene? I want to know everything.”

Hyunsoo, a young man who was a bit uncertain about his ability to woo others, was spending his morning with his fellow entertainers. Although he noticed a few sparks of attraction between himself and others, he wasn't too concerned about it. He had made some good friendships with the male cast members, and while he didn't know the female candidates as well, he understood that they were focused on their own goals.

After expressing his gratitude to Dae-hwan for preparing breakfast, Hyunsoo decided to take a breather. He put in his wireless earphones and pulled out his phone, turning on some tunes from Spotify. Leaning against the wall, he waited patiently for the event to begin.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Hyunsoo wasn't very big on the gift-giving event, since he didn't know how he should interact with the elderly and children. Instead of dressing up as Santa like some of the cast, he decided that he wanted to just put a Santa hat on while the driver reached the neighborhood.

When they arrived, some of the other cast members were already there. Hyunsoo quickly bowed to greet them and listened as the mission was explained. Bags of presents were handed out, and everyone began to approach the designated houses.

This was a great opportunity for Hyunsoo to socialize with the other entertainers, but before he could make a move, a little boy grabbed onto his coat,

"Mister."

Hyunsoo turned to see who it was and found a young child with a runny nose. The boy didn't say anything else, just looked up at Hyunsoo with wide eyes, waiting for a response. Hyunsoo hesitated, glancing at the bag of presents for guidance. He wasn't sure how to answer the child's call but knew for sure he didn't want to reject the random child.

Jinyoung glanced around at the many people in the community center, trying his best to look as unintimidating as possible (he had already made one kid cry as soon as they got there), his eyes searching the many heads for Na-Ri. Though, he was quickly stopped by Hakyeon, who he greeted enthusiastically, practically beaming once he saw his friend, giving him a quick bear hug and then Daehyun too so he didn't feel left out. They shared a quick greeting before all three dispersed, Jinyoung sliding through the crowd. His eyes landed on a certain short female and he smirked.

"Eunji~" He sang, snagging the Santa hat off her head and putting it on his own, sticking his tongue out at her teasingly. "You definitely fit in amongst these kids." The two had a fun relationship, he saw her as a cute little sister, and loved her reactions whenever he teased her, so he tended to do it a lot.

"I'm kidding." He took the hat off his head, quickly patting down her hair before putting the hat back on her. "Our Eunji is a grown up." He said in a baby voice, mimicking the motion of a head pat over her head.

"Are you excited?" He stuck his hands back in pocket, leaning against the wall behind him, though his eyes kept scanning the crowd for Na-Ri. His eyes landed on Hyunsoo and he hid a laugh behind his hand as he noticed the little boy tug on his jacket. If he had popcorn, he would've definitely been eating it.

Soft whispered words and a brief side hug were enough to cause an amused smile to form on the actor’s lips as he waved goodbye to the younger woman as she retreated to her bedroom. Shaking his head slightly, he finished the rest of his food and tea before he started to clean up the kitchen, watching as the cast members all scurried about, desperate to spend time together but also get ready for the mission on time. Dishes were loaded in the dishwasher and warm drinks were poured into thermoses and packed away in a bag.

He was a bit overpacked for a mission like this, but he didn’t mind. He wanted to make sure that everyone was going to stay warm and hydrated while they were out in the snowy weather for a bit. Dae-hwan encouraged everyone to get loaded up in the vans once the alarm went off on his watch, making his rounds in each of the houses to double-check that everyone was well on their way to the community center.

The large black vehicles rolled to a stop and the doors were pulled open, allowing everyone to get out and see each other. The air was buzzing with conversation and remarks about the weather, but Dae-hwan didn’t immediately follow everyone out, instead, he waited by the van, his warm gaze waiting to settle upon the brightly dressed woman he had befriended. “Minsoo, watch your step.” A gentle hand was extended up to the woman as he helped her out of the van, not wanting her to slip on the snow or ice. “Watch out for slick spots. You can hold onto my arm if you would like.”

Smiling at her, Dae-hwan walked by her side, staying close enough so that she could indeed hold onto him so she didn’t have to worry about falling. The community center leaders were easygoing and explained the mission with ease, handing out the Santa hats, red present bags, and the various presents that were designated to adults and children (they were distinguished by the different wrapping paper. Adults had plain red wrapping paper and children had graphics of Santa and snowmen).

Situating the hat on his head, Dae-hwan turned and looked to check on the others, making sure everyone was ready to start walking around the neighborhood. As the group moved, the conversations were minimal as everyone tried to figure out where to go. It seemed to be mostly going according to plan. However, he did notice a very confused Hyunsoo who looked like a deer caught in headlights, a small child tugging at his jacket. “Ah… He looks a bit stuck.” A small laugh left the actor as he turned to look at his current walking companion Minsoo and bowed his head slightly in an apologetic way. “I’ll be right back Minsoo.”

“Everything alright over here?”
Walking over to the pair of equally confused kids, Dae-hwan smiled and placed his bag on the ground before crouching down to the kid’s eye level. “Did you want this hyung to give you something from the bag? Have you been a good boy?” The kid seemed to nod his head before smooshing his hand across his face, trying to clean some of the snot that made residence on his face. “Hyunsoo-ya, let’s take a look in your bag and see if we can give him something. After all, you are one of Santa’s favorite helpers!” Dae-hwan stood up and placed a comforting hand on Hyunsoo’s shoulder as he gestured to the bag the actor was carrying.

“Don’t worry, I’ll run back to the center to replace it. Just pick a present that you think feels right to give to him.” His voice was whispered as he patted the youth’s shoulder, trying to help him relax a bit more.

Lee Minsoo.
Minsoo stared out the window as the van came to a stop, taking a deep breath as she mentally prepared herself. She was really good with people, that wasn't her problem, she was just worried about what she was going to do with her drama filming tonight, after having filmed all last night as well. She was exhausted, but the young girl refused to let it show.

As her door opened and Daehwan met her gaze, her already pink cheeks turned even brighter, but she slowly took his hand, stepping out of the van carefully. It probably hadn't been a good choice to wear heeled boots in the snow, but it definitely had it's perk in the end. "Thank you." She whispered, flashing him a big smile. As he offered his arm, she took it carefully, hugging it to her and hoping he didn't hear her heartbeat. It was taking everything in her to not run away from him, and she glanced around nervously as they walked. Thankfully she made it their without falling thanks to his help, and she slowly let go of him, immediately missing the contact. She listened to what the leaders said, before returning her gaze to him, admiring him for a few seconds. Daehwan was always handsome, but his reliability made him the most handsome man in the world to her. Her gaze landed on Hyunsoo, and she laughed, gently nudging Daehwan with her shoulder.

"Go ahead." She motioned towards him, waving goodbye as the older man walked off. She glanced around her, eyeing everyone in the group. It looked like everyone had paired up in their couples mostly, and as tempting as it was to go greet her good friend Hakyeon who had just appeared, she held back, watching him and Ha-Rin with an affectionate smile. She noticed Siwoo holding out the flower to Ara and made a disgusted face, but decided today she wouldn't interfere, she knew Ara was smart enough to not fall for it. Her gaze landed on an elderly couple sorting presents and she walked towards them, sitting down beside the wife in the chair.

"Good Afternoon!" She greeted happily, and the couple greeted her brightly, immediately cooing over the young girl. "Aren't you the one from that daytime drama? The one about the detectives? My daughter is a big fan." The wife asked, turning her attention away from the presents. Minsoo nodded with a smile, and the woman beamed.

"You're even prettier in person!"

Minsoo turned red again and shook her head, "No no." She laughed softly, "Thank your daughter for me." She started to help sort the presents into the bag, making small talk with the couple. Once she finished, she hoisted the bag over her shoulder.

"Are you sure you can carry it?" the husband asked in concern, but Minsoo grinned and nodded.

"This is between you and me, a little secret," she glanced around them dramatically and leaned forward towards the couple, "My next drama I play a boxer." Her free hand patted her bicep, "I've been working out a lot, this is nothing." The woman chuckled in delight, patting her arm. Minsoo had spent weeks in the gym with Jinyoung's ruthless teaching, and the progress had definitely started to show.

"Your secret is safe with me!" Minsoo held out a pinky, and the woman pinky promised her. They said there goodbyes and Minsoo walked away with the bag, ready to start the mission. She dipped down a bit to let one of the female staff place the santa hat on her as she passed by, grabbing a spare hat for Daehwan whenever he had finished helping Hyunsoo.

interactions

Mi-Jin, Minsoo

Secret cuddles, sweet nothings, and absolutely getting on the princess’ nerves was a recipe for a beautiful morning. Dae-Hyun returned to the Swan House with a smile on his face he couldn’t wipe off, and he wasn’t inclined on divulging any of his secrets, yet.

On the way to the Community Center, he was engrossed in the glowing smartphone, checking over emails and muttering curses under his breath. He had forgotten about a meeting he was supposed to Zoom in on. ”Good thing I’m the boss.” His chuckle rumbled in his chest as he responded to the relevant parties issuing his apologies, though he didn’t really feel that sorry, and rescheduled the meetings for later in the week.

With business settled, it was time to play. And play he would. Wearing his trademark lazy smile Dae-hyun stepped out of the van and threw the camera that panned over to him a wink before trailing behind his cast mates who entered the building. His eyes landed on Mi-Jin’s and he couldn’t help himself from blowing a kiss her way before escaping the special finger she saved just for him in these times and ducked inside, giggling like a school boy.

Dae’s eyes landed on his first target and he made a b-line to the Idol, without asking any questions he moved the heavy bag slung over her shoulders to his own, and grabbed the hat she had certainly not picked up for him.

“Minsoo-ah.” Dae greeted with a mischievous grin as wrapped his arm comfortably around her shoulder and followed her gaze only to lean in to whisper with a chuckle, “You’re drooling.” The teasing was light, and easy, being around Minsoo outside of The Paper House had always been like this, and inside it remained no different. Regardless of the gossiping from the Judges, and gossip columns that responded to the happenings on the show. Not that Dae-hyun minded, it was exciting to wake up the next day and find out about his “new girlfriend” or the “returning fling” he had with Minsoo.

“Oh, to be young and in love.” He crooned and gave her cheek a pinch before laughing and dancing away from her before she could strike, “I’m done, I’m done, I’ll be a good boy now, I promise. Let’s give out these presents, I won’t keep you away for long, promise.” He gave her a small wink, but his words had an undertone of wanting a private conversation and he tilted his head towards a hallway none of the cast members had gone down yet.

so excited to get presents for everyone! i wonder if they'll like what i get.

the community center

Her warm breath curled into the chilled air as she pulled her jacket tighter around her body, a gentle laugh escaping her as she spoke to cast members and those who worked at the community center itself. Her morning had been uneventful, save for the light conversations held over teas and pastries. But that was okay with her. She didn’t mind standing behind the cast with a supportive smile and two thumbs up. She was comfortable like that. It allowed her to freedom to think and do what she wanted without feeling stressed out. But she would be lying if she said she was okay without talking to him.

In the corner of her eye, she caught sight of him, their eyes meeting for a brief moment before moving on to other things. It felt like she was back in grade school trying not to be obviously staring at the kid she had a crush on. The situation made her laugh softly before she gathered what she needed for the mission. A bright red hat was placed on her head and a smaller bag was handed to her, mostly filled with lightweight presents so that she could carry it easier. A flash of a smile and a gentle ‘thank you’ left Ara before she departed the center, heading outside to start on the walk into the neighborhood.

Snow crunched under her shoes as she walked, brown eyes appreciating the fluffy snowflakes that descended from the sky. It was peaceful, the sounds of conversations and laughter behind her as she simply waited for everyone else to join her. But hurried footsteps soon caught her attention and caused her to turn around, eyes widened slightly as she looked at who was approaching, with the intent to move if they needed to run past her. Instead, a frozen flower was presented, the frost and ice clinging to the delicate petals, preventing it from enjoying the warmth of the morning sun.

With flushed cheeks and a smile on his face, Siwoo’s words spilled from his lips, painting a rather romantic picture of the frozen plant that he held between his fingers. Ara couldn’t help but return the smile, dimples forming as she briefly placed her hand over her face, most likely to try and hide the slight shyness she felt. “Charming words and a perfect flower, you really know how to make my day. I like flowers so this is lovely.” Taking off a glove, the actress took the flower from Siwoo and held it carefully, twisting it slowly to look at the whole thing. “Thank you, Siwoo-ssi, I really like it!”

An invitation to partner up made her laugh as she nodded her head, looking at him with a gentle expression that seemed to be reserved only for him. Carefully she tucked the flower behind her ear, not minding the slight chill it sent across her skin. “I would really like to pair up with you! I can rely on your popularity to get rid of my presents first!” Her hand moved to lightly touch his arm, thin fingers holding the grey fabric softly. “So if we don’t win it, would you still be willing to go on a date with me?” Her question was pretty forward, but she didn’t see any harm in it. They were off on their own for a moment while everyone else was caught up in small moments closer to the center, allowing them privacy.

Well, mostly there was privacy. A single camera seemed to find its way onto them, though they kept their distance so the interaction wasn’t interrupted. After all, this was about as picture-perfect as a reality show could get, like it had been plucked right from a drama and dropped into their dating show. There was no denying the soft chemistry the pair seemed to have, and their scenes were a bit of a hidden gem, at least for the time being.

“I would really like to spend time with you outside of the craziness of everyone else. It can get a little hectic to be fighting off the kids when I want to get to know you better.”
