  You are Musashi Kaze, a foreigner from the land of Joysia. You are taking a vacation in the Central Republic, in the Province of Castun. Back in your homeland, you serve as a Senior Staff Sergeant in the Joysia Police Force.
  
  You are sitting in the String Bean Coffee Shop, located on a beachside street corner near the hotel where you're staying. The television mounted on the wall across from you is only full of bad news. Apparently, there's been riots occurring near the city centre, sparked by the recent spike in police shootings involving unarmed people. At the same time, the pathogen that started making headlines a few days ago has apparently gotten worse. The TV said that the governor is going to call a state of emergency in the province, and that the Army Reserve might be deployed.
  
  The beach outside is empty (though you see a few motorsailers in the distance), and there aren't very many cars about, since people have started staying home after the recent government advisory. Aside from the cashier, there's three other people in the coffee shop, and two of them (a young couple) have medical masks around their necks. They've taken them off to drink their coffee, but they picked the table farthest away from everyone else.

  Name: [Senior Staff Sergeant] Musashi Kaze
  
  Age: 26
  
  Appearance: Musashi is a short man, standing at only about 5'4", but with a strong and well-defined muscular build. His black hair is grown out to a medium length, messily parted and pushed out of the way of his faintly-scarred face. He wears a heavy stubble that somehow makes his dark-brown eyes even darker.
  
  He's dressed in a light-grey t-shirt with a dark-green military jacket over it, along with a pair of dark-blue jeans and slightly dirtied white sneakers. His sole accessory is worn on his left wrist: a fairly plain rugged analog watch with a black-and-silver face and an earthy khaki band.
  
  Backstory: Musashi was born and raised in Joysia, raised under fairly normal circumstances by fairly normal parents. Growing up, he'd wanted to be an animator or director for a major studio in Joysia, but his career path soon changed when he was sent into the Joysia Police Force for his bout of mandatory service.
  
  Upon his passing out from the Academy, he was sent as a standard frontline patrolman to a fairly busy and happening district of Joysia. His big breakthrough came about a year into his service when he was one of the first officers to the scene of a suicide by drug overdose. From his examination of the body, he could see minor signs of struggle, and a few faint markings as though the victim had been tied up prior to their death. He assessed that there was likely to be foul play and worked closely with a senior detective to track down a suspect.
  
  The murderer was soon caught and sent for trial, and the detective Musashi worked with offered him a job to work in the Investigation Bureau if he signed on to the Force. A part of him still wanted his childhood dream job, but another, more realistic part of him knew how rare of an opportunity this was. He took the offer, and soon made something of a name for himself within the office, looking to be a good candidate for a higher posting in a couple years.
  
  A few weeks before the outbreak, he took a long vacation to travel and explore the various provinces of Centralia. He was in Castun when the news first broke out, and now is trying to survive for long enough to figure out a way back to Joysia

Bad time for a vacation. The one chance I have to take long leave from work, and I've gotta spend part of it avoiding riots and sick people. I could do that pretty well enough back at home.

Eyeing the couple at the other end of the coffee shop makes me wonder if I should've brought a mask out with me. I don't get sick too often though, so maybe I better not worry too much. I take a sip of my coffee, thinking about how I should spend the rest of the day. Going further into the city is probably out of the question. Maybe I'll go somewhere more... peaceful. Get away from the buildings and dying grass. Go see some trees and try to be one with nature like all the hip kids are doing.

There's a lake not too far from here, isn't there? Some campgrounds around there too. Wouldn't hurt to take a look, maybe walk down a trail there. I set down my empty cup, heading out to hail a cab to the campground.
