Here at the Venator's guild all manner of travellers stop and rest before heading into the city of Serti. It's official name is Pinnaroo inn but everyone knows it as the Venator's guild, when one has need of a hunter they send word to this location. There's usually someone here able or willing to take on the request...

That said personal requests are to be negotiated between the paying party and the hunters involved, but bringing proof of any dead threat will get you compensation paid by taxes from the city. Monster hunting is a dangerous occupation, many a hunter comes through these parts only to die. For one to survive long enough to thrive they need a persistent nature and a touch of crazy.

One hunter who embodied those phrases perhaps to strongly is Yohan Bosephi, better known to vampires as Ashwalker. Yohan had been gone for a week scouting out a monster he wished to hunt, only coming back to the guild now to request assistance from his allies. A young Elf named Moonberri and a beastkin that goes by Syprus, the trio have become known as Oak, Ash and Bone thanks to their numerous battles against the undead. Yohan didn't mind the attention, getting the free meal or drink out of respect was nice... But the real tickle to Yohan was knowing somewhere at said moment was a vampire hiding in fear of him.

Opening the door to the tavern and walking inside got a cheer from some of the guild staff and hunters who saw him, Yohan waved back before heading to the bar to order a drink and ask questions. "Aye there Ashwalker, staying long?" Barrymor asked handing a large bottle of rum across.
the barkeep is a elder slab of muscle around the age of fifty giving his greying hair and beard. Barrymor was once a hunter but injury forced a career change, at least at the guild he can give advice and guidance to newcomers.

"hey Barry, say I'll be having a drink and a meal before i leave. Seen my associates lately?"
Yohan answered with a glance around the room. "Oak and Bone? Can't say I've seen them today, mind you the girls would have made sure to pass along your message." Barry cocked his head towards the reception staff and Yohan took to his drink. "get the cook to make fried duck when he gets a chance"
Yohan put some silver coin on the bar and escorted his bottle to a table so they could get to know each other while waiting for food and allies.

Not to far from Yohan, deep in the woods to the east, sat an elf, camouflaging with a tree. He went by many names, depending on who he was talking to, Oak Was a common one, but his associate Yohan called him Moonberri, but his birth name was his favourite, since he was rarely called it.

Callum lay there, hanging from the a breach tree, waiting patiently. He saw the deer trotting below him, taking its time as it believed itself to be safe. This area of trees was not far from Venator’s guild, where he was staying. One of his many hobbies was going out here to catch food for the inn, it paid well when he wasn’t hurting for vampires and monsters.

The deer lounged underneath him, quietly undoing his whip from his body, he poised in position. With one swing he encircled the deers neck, pulling hard Callum jumped down, landing square on its back. While holding on to his whip, the deer began struggling intensely, taking out his dagger, he made a quick cut along its throat. The deer tensed, then fell, lifeless. Callum silently praised himself. Picking up his catch, he began to bring it back towards the Venator’s guild.

The air whipped at his face, he smiled warmly, enjoying the feeling. His feet felt the less wild path as he spotted the tavern, smirking to himself, knowing how the Barrymor would be pleased with what he found, wiping some of the blood off his face, he entered the tavern, “One deer, I’d say pretty good for a morning catch.” He said, holding it triumphantly, some of the people cheered, while others turned in disgust. Then, he spotted a familiar face. “Oh, hey Yohan, didn’t realise you’d be here.” He said, going over towards the bar, Barrymor thanked him before taking the deer from him. ”What brings you back? Good to see you nevertheless.“ He said with a smile. It was always good to see him.

"Moonberri," Yohan stated before taking a long swig of rum. One of the more promising rookies to survive the wilds of Serti, wind magic may not be offensive like the other elements but the elf has the versatility to make the most of it.
"I've found the nest of a Hinotori, the weapons we could make from it's corpse is enough reason to embark on such a quest. Better reason for you though is the chance to gain the magic of a Hinotori..."

A smile grew on Yohan's face contemplating all the burning weapons he could have. Picturing himself as a elf born with fire mana making vampires shit themselves even more then he does as a human.
"...Figure if I had you and Syprus along the hunt will go much smoother." Another swig of rum and Yohan stood to get another bottle and to hurry his food along.

Callum thought for a moment, fire mana could be extremely useful, and burning vampires to death would be fun, a devilish grin grew across his face. “Well, yes thats very tempting… sure! I mean its not I can stay here forever…” He said, stretching his limbs. “I haven’t seen Syprus though… but I’m sure He’ll turn up.“ He said, ”How far is it?“ He asked, looking around the tavern.

Callum wasn’t one for eyes constantly staring at him, unless someone handsome or beautiful was behind them. He couldn’t shake the feeling he was being watched, by he ignored it, looking at yohan, “I’ve been so bored lately, Anything else happen on your travels?

Ensconced within a small annex close to the guild hall, Syprus sat perched upon his usual spot whilst his head was yet again buried in book, the annex being the local library open to the Hunters of the guild. The library is a small and unassuming place, largely mundane from the outside, but within it is well-appointed, with a handsome variety of books on numerous topics, ranging from survivalist manuals to spellbooks to encyclopedias on monsters both rare and common. When not on hunts, the Library is one of Syprus's usual haunts, being a regular visitor and patron over the years. Sadly, while the Library is open and available to every hunter, few others visit as routinely as Syprus, and most of those are just mages looking for new spells.

Other than Syprus, the only other regular face in the Library is Maggie, the lovely elderly elven librarian, who shuffles to the table Syprus is sat at with a tray of tea and cakes.

"So, what are you reading today?" The elderly lady speaks, her voice quiet and shaky, ravaged by the relentless march of time. "The Entropic Treaties of Loprica," Syprus says, looking up from his book to see Maggie pouring him some tea, a sight that picks up his smile. "You were right to suggest the primer before attempting this read, though it was well worth the wait. The proposed capture of primal energies in a harmonising solution is truly fascinating! Applying this theory to the use of monster parts could be a revolutionary breakthrough, if it can be done!"

"Glad you enjoyed it," Maggie chuckles. "Though it is now time for a break. You have been sat there reading for hours."

Syprus takes the tea Maggie hands to him, and reaches to grab one of the lemon cakes, his personal favorite. Spending days in the Library, Syprus often forgets to eat or drink, and Maggie, in her kindly way, has picked up on his slack. The kitsune would be a great deal thinner today if it were not for the Librarian keeping him fed.

"Thanks, Maggie." Syprus smiles before rising out of his seat. "And while I would love to stay, I should head into the guild hall to see if my friends have finally returned. Mind if I borrow the book for a while?"

"Of course." Maggies smiles in turn. "And be safe if you're heading out today."

~~~
Stepping into the guild hall, Syprus immediately picks up on the smell. That same, all too familiar noxious stench.
Humans. Everywhere!
Luckily, Syprus has a solution. Tucked into the snout of his helmet lies a small parcel of flowers, patched into place for occasions such as these. Slipping on the helmet, the odor of humanity fades away, and the sweet smell of the summer meadows fills his senses with much relief, a smell which has become Syprus's signature scent. Whenever approached by the Kitsune, the smell of flowers follows him, as much a companion to him as his own skin. By contrast, not all humans enjoy his scent, perhaps even being a small revenge upon them on his part.
Now relieved of the human stench, Syprus surveys the guild hall and finds his friends, Callum and Yohan. Yohan stood at the bar, while Callum sat by a table. Without further delay, the Kitsune makes his way over to the table.
What Callum would see as Syprus approaches is one he is familiar with, yet would be no less imposing. Syprus is tall, 6 feet and 5 inches tall, and his heavy plate armour makes him look broader than he truly is. His armour has been extensively modified with monster parts, almost exclusively by their bones. Even his longsword and bow is forged from monster bones, creations Syprus has made and maintained himself over the years.
While dwarves provide their services, not every hunter can afford their prices. Syprus's scholarly pursuits have granted him insights into the making of weapons and armour, insights he has taken to practice, developing skills he continually refines when he has the means to do so. Luckily, many other hunters are as financially challenged as the Kitsune, and patronise his services in place of the dwarves, allowing Syprus to form a small business of his own while granting him the opportunity to practice his craft.
"I see Yohan is finally back,"
Syprus greets the elf, his deep and genteel voice muffled by his helmet. "As are you. Good to see you, Callum. And you smell of blood. Another successful hunt, I trust?"
Callum turned to face Syprus, smiling up at him “Oh… you know it was, I caught a whole deer! And it was a adult!” He said, proud of himself. Stretching, he cracked some of his bones, “Guess what, Yohan‘s found a Hinotori nest, he wants us to go, it’ll make it easier and I can learn fire mana. You down?” He asked, leaning back on his chair, Callum adored Syprus, since he was amazing at what he did, Callum had always looked up to him, literally and Figuratively.
“I’m tagging along, you might find some rare items and weapon there, since they aren’t common around here much lately…” He said, ”Air may be useful but its not that…. Great for attacking, so fire would be nice to slowly kill some vampires, you know?” He said, an almost crazy smile on his face, the 19 year old elf stood slowly, tying his white hair back as he patted Syprus’ back, “So, you down for some Hinotori hunting?” He said, smirking.
Returning to the table with a second bottle was when Yohan noticed the armour, hearing Callum explain the gist of hat he said earlier the man added onto it. "Syprus, we've need of a archer with a understanding of Runes and bone. "
Sliding back into his seat and opening the next bottle for a long sip.
"my endeavours brought me halfway up mount Pinnaroo, when the sun is setting and most of the sky turns a red hue... that was where i chanced upon a Hinotori, a bird of fire larger then a house leaving its nest to flit about at the mountain tops. I spent the better part of three days on that mountain and I only left once I had a plan to slay the beast."
A confident smirk rested on Yohan's face as he drank more rum.
"My strategy like most of the large hunts i plan, requires work and preparation. I won't bore you with the details but we need a number of horns of the thunderwolf variety and a decent amount of blue runes for water. Also Moonberri will need to see a tailor about getting a sail for a cloak... or a wingsuit... whatever makes it easier to fly with magic"
========================
the word Yohan means is a parachute or paraglider
He listened intently to Yohan, noting down his words, “Hinotori are powerful beasts, I can tell why you’d want our help…” He said, thinking hard “There’s a pack of Thunderwolves east from here, I’ve seen them, but I haven’t been so dumb as too charge in alone... also there a shop near here that has water runes, tons of them! They also have fire, thunder, light… you get it…” He chuckled lightly, rubbing the back of his head. He leaned back in his seat, allowing himself to listen to the rest of Yohan’s words.
Callum‘s eyes light up at the though of a wingsuit “Yes! *ahem* Of course, I know an amazing tailor not far from here, she made me this.” He said, indicating his outfit. “It‘s surprising very useful when it comes to fighting and Its very flexible, its perfect for air mana…” He said, stretching it playfully. He looked over to Yohan.
Yohan looked at the elf's clothes, certainly decently made as far as he could tell. Though he wasn't sure how got everything across so he clarified further. "you're to be above a massive bird on fire most likely flying when it spots us. Meaning you need to have something big enough for a magic breeze to keep you in the air. Not to mention as fireproof as possible on the chance the bird swoops you."
Another swig of rum was gone before thankfully his fried duck arrived, so a hungry few bites took half the plate before he mentioned
"If all goes well and you drench the thing, me and Syprus should be able to kill it. Providing we can jam some electric horns into it."
Sound plan in theory, the problem was the execution. In Yohan's mind though the reward was well worth the risk.
Callum nodded, Stretching his bones “Yeah… true… but trust me, she can make anything, I’ve had fireproof things from her to deal with a fire rabbit a few Weeks back, my hands would be stubs if not for her.“ He said, looking around. “It would be nice to douse that bird… I haven’t used water mana in a while…” He said, smirking. “By the way, have you checked around to see if any other beasts or vampires where around?” He asked curiously.
Callum loved hearing of the adventures the others would go on, as the youngest of the three he wouldn’t normally get sent on solo missions but would anyway tag along with them if he had the chance. Callum pulled out the hair tie around his hair, letting the white strands fall over his face. Moving it behind his ears he turned to Yohan “So… where first my friend?”
The question of vampires was always brought up when these three got together. If Callum was asking it meant he hadn't caught wind of them in the city of Serti. Good news for most people, but Yohan wasn't among them. Always on the hunt for vampires Yohan was the most likely of the three to uncover anything. "Hmmm... A thrall i tortured claims a vampire clan moves towards the city. Not sure if he said that out of fear or the hopes I would let him live."
A grim smirk disappeared as he cleared his throat to continue "Either way I figured its time to upgrade the arsenal so to speak. I've plans for that bird, bone boomerangs... feathered gloves... the beak and talons could be worked into all manner of things..."
Yohan looked at the eager rookie with a smirk stating "go find your tailor and make sure your ready, pay double if you have to but stress we leave tonight, tomorrow morning being the most we can wait. I'll go into Serti and see if I can buy enough water runes to drown a living flame. If not we'd need to detour to the beach which is time we don't have."
The object of cost here may be expensive but the payoff could potentially be double or triple what they spend getting ready.
"I'll buy the runes, you sort yourself out and how about Syprus handles transport? We need at least two horses and large cart, if we can't take the corpse back we'll be stripping all we can carry off it."
making sure to stress the last part, said bird is bigger then large hut, four meters tall at least. Every bit of it worth gold.
"I'll leave right after my meal, and this bottle."
Yohan assured the others to put their worries at ease about him not contributing.
Syprus could only smile at Callum's boyish reverence of him, finding it endearing that he has decided to take Syprus as some manner of role model. Certainly he could do worse, a thought which draws Syprus's eyes to Yohan's bottle of rum. Hitting the sauce again. The Kitsune can only roll his eyes from behind his helmet. Syprus has never touched a drop in his life. His training during his upbringing have left him far too disciplined for such things.
"A hinotari. Hmmm." Syprus contemplates. "If it is nesting in the Pinnaroo Mountains, it could be a female. One recently mated, perhaps. Once we down the beast, we should check on the nest. She may have left us something more."
"I can find us some transport, certainly."
Syprus acquiesced to the task. "I'll also head to the Library in Serti and see if I can learn anything more about the Hinotari. Maybe some of the more seasoned hunters will have some tips for us as well."
Yohan finished his meal rather quickly and polished off the bottle almost as fast. "right, meet back here when ya done." Firstly going to his room at the guild to retrieve the neccesary funds, opening his door and the safe in the closet before leaving it all locked. No matter how drunk one never forgets.
Finally taking his leave of the guild to walk into the city. The well trodden path was somewhat peaceful an serene visually of course. All manner of beasts and monsters hide in the wilds, thankfully traffic to and from the city is frequent enough to scare off most animals.
Bandits being the main problem to target the roads in various ways. Yohan's walk wasn't uneventful, but it was still boring. What looked to be a bandit trap was actually a regular woman who injured her ankle after being thrown from her horse. Despite not being his type Yohan assists the lady back into town. "Thank you Yohan, thank the stars it was you who found me instead of something foul" the lady whose name had been forgotten already says once they reached the city.
"i won't say my pleasure, but it wasn't a problem"
Yohan manages not to grumble.
"Was still a kindness i needed. I'll be telling my family of your good deed sir hunter" the woman blushed a tad but Yohan's mind was elsewhere.
"let's find you somewhere to sit as I've shit to do"
"Oh er, right..."
After dropping the lady off at her sister's work Yohan was back to moving quickly and went straight towards the markets. Buying runes can be done in a crafters store but open stalls usually sell cheaper due to needing stock gone by the end of the day... Yohan spent a good four hours searching the city, though his efforts were well rewarded.
Fifteen decent sized blue runes,
Two orange runes and three potions of healing. With the rest of the money in his pouch Yohan bought a cluckoo skewer and went to the closest Oaksmith to purchase more boomerangs.
Thanks to having Yohan's weapon to copy it didn't take to long for the crafting process. Cutting and sanding oak requires patience and the correct tools, Yohan watched the ordeal for more than a hour before finally stepping outside for fresh air.
nine is better then six but I feel uneven...
Not sure if eight or ten is the better cut-off Yohan wanders Serti heading for the guild. The sun hangs low in the air as Yohan passed the city gates onto the main road.
be night by the time I reach the guild.
Callum watched Yohan leave the tavern, smirking he went up to his room, taking out the saved money he had from over the weeks, since he was allowed to stay there for free as long as he did his job it paid well. Nodding to Syprus he made his way to the exit
See you later Syprus!” He said, opening the door and started walking towards the market near the Guild. There you could find all sorts of weird and wonderful items, but only one shop interested him. On the way he was greeted by many people, since the guild wasn’t the only place he had been getting food for.
”Ah Oak, do you have anything new?” A lady called from her shop, she sold various meals which you could eat on journeys quickly and when your in a rush. Callum shook his head
Sorry Sheila, not today, I’ve got to go hunting.” He called, She smiled and nodded
“Well don’t go getting yourself killed dear, you are certainly A big help around here.“ Callum bowed his head in thanks before running off towards the shop with the sign ‘Wendy’s wears‘ on the top. Smiling, he opened the two swinging doors, letting them go inward.
“I swear to god Alex I said no, Im not inter- Oh Oak, sorry, how are you?” A girl in her early 20’s stood there, her black curls falling around her pointing ears, her dark skin looks gorgeous in this lightning, she turned, putting another piece of armour of a shelf “Don’t tell me you already destroyed your new clothes, that took my hours!” She said before noticing he was indeed wearing the clothes “Oh, you haven’t…. Good.” She said, turning away, embarrassed. “Then what can I do for you?” He smirked, walking up to the counter.
Well, I’m going hunting with Bone and Ash today…” He said, choosing his words carefully. “And I need a talented tailor to make me a fireproof wingsuit if possible.” He said, examining his nails. “And who better than you, Lilly?” He said, putting on the charm.
“Your infuriating, adorable, but infuriating.“ She said, Rubbing her face with her hands. “Look, I have time to make that by tonight but it’ll cost you!” She said, smirking at him. “Im not letting you charm me into giving you a discount, no matter how much you try.” She laughed. Pointing a finger at him. Callum also laughed, giving a her a small pout.
Oh come on…. I really need that wing suit, I might be able to get an 1000% fire mana, and I’ll give you 20% of my share of the gold I get.”
She turned, narrowing her eyes. “20% Eh? And what exactly are you battling my brave elf?“ She remarked, putting both hands on the counter. Callum gave her his winning smile.
A Hinotori.“ He put simply. She gasped, smiling at him
“Those… are so much gold… I want 30%!” She said, narrowing her eyes.
25%. You in or out?” He said, putting his hand out. She sighed.
“Fine but I want some money now, not much, just enough until I get my share.” She said, taking his hand. Callum pulled out his wallet, giving her some gold. though it was definitely out of his life savings, that Hinotori would give him enough gold for a lifetime, he hoped. “Right, I‘ll get to it, by the way, what colour?” She asked, tilting her head curiously. Callum thought about It.
White, so I camouflage with the snow.“ He said, smiling. “I must go and get supplies now, See you later.” He said, exiting the shop. He heard her goodbyes as he left, now to get some food.
