Not all Treasure is Silver or Gold

Captain Harley Barbossa

The moment that the man opened his mouth to speak, Harley tilted her head to the side slightly although her expression didn't change. The little monkey let out another tiny shriek as it climbed around one of the ropes and made its way down to her shoulder to situate itself comfortably; its tail wrapped around her neck and for the moment it just watched the man as she did. Although when one of her crew came to punch their guest, a silent sigh left her lips as her stoic gaze turned to the pirate that hit him. Now that just wouldn't do at all. Without a word Harley closed the distance and kneed the man hard in the groin, stepping to the side as he doubled over from the sudden pain. The monkey let out what sounded almost like a cackle, as if laughing at the pirate's pain.

"And you'll not lay a hand on those under the protection of parlay." Harley spoke in a cold, warning tone that threatened there would be worse to come should anyone even try to do something to their guest again. Her eyes darted to the crew that were nearest and some were even quick to take a step back as if to tell her they wouldn't dare do such a thing.

"...aye, cap'n." The pirate had a hard time getting the words out as he was still trying to process the pain but he was getting to his feet nonetheless. Once he was standing tall and moving back to what he had been doing before he interrupted what was going on, Harley turned her attention back to their guest. A fake smile was put on her lips as she bowed her head just slightly.

"My apologies, sir. Now what is it that you were saying?" Harley made a motion with her hand to show that it was fine for him to continue to speak and that none of the other pirates would dare step in like that one had done.

The Captain acted fast and unexpectedly as she disciplined the pirate that had stepped out of line. The monkey let out a screech that and Elijah could have sworn the animal was enjoying the other’s man pain. The animal was more unnerving than many of the pirates on board the ship. A happy sensation came over him as he eyed the pirate that had hit him and was not doubled over in pain. The man coward away and went back to his duties, his gaze followed him until he was out of sight and then it turned back to the grey hair woman that was now bowing. The apology made him uncomfortable and he forced an unsure smile as to say it was alright.

“Right. . .” The crew was eyed suspiciously as he wasn’t truly convinced another one wouldn’t hit him. The fear was swallowed at he started once more. “I want to negotiate the terms of you leaving Port Royal without any further damage.” The whole time he spoke he eyed the Captain, trying to seem confident in his words. In a way he was since he had the medallion they wanted. The necklace was removed and the chain balled up in the palm of his hand as he had a tight grip on it, leaving the coin out to be clearly seen. “For this.” he said, showing the means he had to make demands and something to negotiate with. The coin remained close to his body as he showed, being able to pull it away from anyone who tried to take it. The woman was hard to read, but his eyes rest on her and he tried his best to do so.

Harley's expression didn't change went the man came outright and said he was here for negotiations; most that called for parlay usually wanted to negotiate something so that was typical. When he pulled out the necklace that had the medallion on it, Harley's eyes darted to it for a split moment before going right back to the man's face. Her reaction -or really lack thereof- reflected the reaction of most of the pirates on the ship as well. It was the piece that she had been searching for and she would have it at whatever cost but she wasn't going to let on that fact to this man. Taking a look around at her men, she made a motion first to her right and then to her left at some of the pirates. They were unique in their own rights, some more rough around the edges than others but it could be seen that they've been at this for quite a while.

"We're pirates, lad. We pillage and plunder as we like, wherever we like. That means a great deal of treasure for us, in case you didn't know how it works." Harley paused as she made a motion towards the town that was still being fired upon as they spoke. The fog was heavy in the air around them but wherever the cannons hit, the fire could still be seen for a split moment in the distance before it got lost in the fog. This was an interesting turn of events though since she could easily just kill the man where he stood and take the medallion from him. The thought was a bit tempting but...if he were to accidentally fall overboard with it then it would be extremely difficult to find and she just wasn't going to have that happen. "That little shine in your hands matters to me...why?" There was a hint of sarcasm in her voice that caused a chuckle from one of the pirates. He couldn't possibly know the actual value of it to her; how desperately she wanted it so she could be rid of this curse. Once it was in her possession there would really only be one final piece of the puzzle left and then they'd be able to be free of the curse for good.

“I’m aware how it works.” he replied sharply, not liking being belittled. His eyes went to his town and he wondered silently if everyone he knew and loved were safe. His mind went to Willow briefly, after all it was really her medallion he was holding, but the Captain broke his train of thought. Elijah’s eyes narrowed as he looked over the woman with grey hair. The crew was eyed up a bit when they started to laugh, but no matter how they tried he could see it. A twinkle in their eye, that made him know they wanted what was in his hand. The medallion was pulled close to him and he stared at the Captain, pondering his next move. He had to get them to admit they wanted it badly enough to stop firing on his home. His gaze drifted to the city and then the water.

“Well.” he said, tilting his head and shrugging as he moved closer to the railing. “If you don’t want it and I have no use for it, why hold on to it?” His hand now hovered over the water, the gold coin shined in the moonlight and he watched for the Crew’s and Captains reaction. A few were a bit tenser already, and he had a feeling this could work. With a slight shrug, like he didn’t care either, he let go of the medallion that looked like it was about to be lost at sea forever, but then chain he was holding onto ran out and it stopped dangling in the air, but everyone’s reaction was enough to tell him the coin was valuable. A smile was on his face as he looked at the Captain. “Do you still not want to negotiate?” he asked, cheekily. Getting them to leave might be a possibility at this point.

The man was moving closer to the railing and it caused Harley to tilt her head to the side for a moment. She didn't let on that she now more than ever wanted to go over and snatch the damn thing from his hand; although maybe her eyes gave it away just the slightest with how they narrowed despite the smile on her lips. Although the smile faltered the moment that he let go of the chain. "NO!" Several different pirates shouted at the same time and even Harley herself took a step forward with a surprised look on her face. It quickly turned to anger as she tsk'ed when she noticed that he had been testing them and it was all too clear now that the coin was valuable. Glancing to the side, she shook her head at one of the pirates that had their hand on his sword before she ended up laughing; it was a genuine laugh too, one that her monkey joined in on as she walked over to where the man now stood by the railing.

"Well, you know how to use your pair at least. Here I thought this town would be full of squiffy boys playing dress-up. Hm." Harley complimented him with a grin and eyed him a bit more curiously now that she was beside him. He was certainly more ballsy than she would have imagined someone from the town would be, not that she was complaining any. It kept things more interesting. If he wanted to negotiate then she could negotiate, that was fine; he already said his terms so all she had to do was agree with them. "You got a name, boy?" Harley brought her attention back to meet his gaze, setting one hand to rest comfortably on the hilt of her sword. By no means was she in a threatening stance at all, it was more a relaxed one than anything.

The pirates reacted just the way he wanted. Some lurched forward, yelling no. Even the Captain herself had stepped forward let it known that the medallion was valuable to them. A nerve had been struck; even some had their hands now resting on the handle of their sword in a threatening matter. Elijah swallowed hard, but didn’t back down. The coin still dangled by its chain over the water for his own safety. Laughter filled the air and that monkey joined in with its own unnerving cackle. His feet shuffled closer to the railing as he wanted more space between the three of them. The comment made him squint as it was sort of an insult, though he was defying her expectations. It seemed they were willing to listen to him now that he had leverage. The question was mulled over. Was it wise to give them his real name? Than he remembered who the medallion really belonged too, maybe they would also want Willow too. Elijah turned his head thoughtfully to the side before he answered.

“Elijah . . .” The ground was looked at briefly before he finished and decided on what last name to use. “Turner. . . Elijah Turner.” he said confidently, eyeing the Captain. A burn in his arm started happening from holding the coin out for so long, but he bare through it until this transaction was done. “Do we have a deal? You leave Port Royal and never return for the Medallion?” Elijah stood tall and held a serious demeanor, hoping that would in some way benefit the outcome going in his favor.

Turner. The name played again in Harley's mind as the smile on her face turned more to a grin. Things were really starting to look to her favor than they had before and she had to wonder how her luck just all of a sudden turned around. Not that it mattered any. The fact was, here was the final pieces of the puzzle that she needed to be free of the curse and they were within her grasp. She wasn't going to let either one of those out of her sight. There were a couple of mumbles from the crew that caused her to glance over her shoulder to silence them. They knew as well but they also didn't know how to keep their mouths shut. It was probably the buffoons that brought him here in the first place that made him aware of the medallion's worth. Still, she turned back to him with a smile as he reiterated the deal he mentioned before making a motion to the coin he still held out.

"Fine." Harley tilted her head as if she was thinking about something for a moment then held her hand out towards him. "You hand over that medallion and we'll put your little city to rudder, never to return again." Harley gave a nod as if to emphasis her own words, which for once she was actually telling the truth. This city mattered little to her; all she wanted to do was be free of this curse and be done with it so she could taste and feel again. Once she could do that again, the world would be her playground and maybe then she'd come back here one day. Until that time though she'd never return. When she felt like Elijah was hesitating, she waved her hand slightly as if to hurry him up. "Come now, boy. Don't test my patience. You'd best hand it over now or these'll be the last friendly words you'll ever hear." She gave the warning in a firm tone as the smile faded from her lips to show she wasn't kidding around with him. That seemed to do the trick because after another moment, he seemed to concede and handed over the medallion. "Good boy." Harley cooed softly as a devilish grin spread across her lips; the medallion was handed off to the monkey and the animal was quick to jump off of her shoulder and start climbing away up the rafters.

"Still the guns and stow them! Signal the men, set the flags, and make good to clear port!" Harley laid out the orders loud and clear as she turned on her heel to head up to the wheel. All too quickly the crew split off from where they had been standing to do as they had been told. Just like that, the cannons ceased firing in an instant and an eerie silence crept in its wake; the only thing that broke that silence now and again was the crew itself barking their own orders to each other to get things done in a timely manner.
