The kingdom of Kai had been separated for as long as anyone could remember, with the East being ruled by the Ashura and the West by the Fukami. They say that the royals from the Ashura family are descendants from their guardian deity, the Tengu while the royals from the Fukami family are descendents from the fox deity, Okami.

When a great evil known as the Orochi threatens to rise from its slumber, it is up to the two clans to stand together and fight together. Thousands of years of fighting had created scars which cannot be healed. Out of duty, each family must send their most blessed child to be wed. In matrimony, the kingdom of Kai may finally find peace.

The geography of central Kai mostly consists of valleys and forests, just bordering East Kai's mountains.

While there are many small scattered villages, there is only one main city in central Kai. People from Central Kai are generally frowned down upon by those living in the East or West.

Although the land is considered "neutral" territory, the Fukami and Ashura are rarely seen to mix.

geography: seaport area / city-like / hills

West Kai has a prominent sea port and multiple waterways which the Fukami use for trade. Further north of west Kai are cliffs rich with vegetation, waterfalls and lakes. Some of the more daring individuals reside in castles in Northwest Kai, creating some of the most beautiful gardens in the land. Most of Kai is dominated by bustling cities which are expanding due to economic prosperity.

The cities of West Kai are the most "modern" cities found in Kai.

geography: mountainous / lots of cliffs and harsh wintry climate

East Kai consists mainly of high mountains and cliffs. It's rocky terrain and harsh climate makes it a difficult place to live in and yet the Ashurans manage to thrive perfectly fine under these conditions, contributing to why Ashurans are usually more physically fit than the Fukami. Architecture and buildings are usually built up on steep but sturdy mountains. Bridges may be used to connect two castles.

Further down South of East Kai, one may find less mountains and a flat terrain where larger Ashura villages and temples can be found. East Kai is known to supply Kai's best winter crops and fresh vegetables. It is also more traditional compared to West Kai.

The place is also known as "Heaven's Gate" due to its location. Tengoku Temple is found in central Kai, found on one of the highest mounts in Kai. It is the largest temple in Kai and also the place where The Usagi is known to reside. Many shrines can be found at the base of the temple. The higher and deeper one ventures into Tengoku Temple, the more historic the shrines and the more ancient the deities dedicated. It is rumored that The Usagi's shrine can be found at the top of the Temple but due to lack of available roads, it is near impossible to reach the top of the mountain--let alone the deepest part of Tengoku Temple.

Heaven's Gate basically takes up the whole mountain's area. The higher you go on the mountain, the deeper you will find yourself in the "temple". The shrines are like pit stop. Minus the shrines at the base of the mountain (the most popular and most frequently visited ones), shrines further up the mountain are accompanied by small mansions for monks and visitors to reside in.

A strange mist veils the top of Tengoku Temple and the forest area also becomes denser. Some say that the mist is a barrier, hiding The Usagi from unwanted foe. However, there are some individuals born with the ability to see through the mist.

Further down South of East Kai, one may find less mountains and a flat terrain where larger Ashura villages and temples can be found. East Kai is known to supply Kai's best winter crops and fresh vegetables. It is also more traditional compared to West Kai.

Little is known about The Usagi despite the fact that there is no one in Kai who has never heard of him (assuming that the Usagi is a him). No one really knows how The Usagi came to power or how he even came to be. He has existed since the beginning of Kai and stories about him have been passed down from generation from generation - further building the enigma around him.

Some believe that The Usagi is a position, because no person could live for thousands of years. Others believe that The Usagi is a deity like the guardian deities for Ashura and Fukami. Because few have seen him in person, there may even be some who believe that the Usagi is an actual talking rabbit.

Regardless of who he is, there are many who seek his knowledge and help; undoubtedly, he is a powerful figure in the land of Kai. Those who dare to refute his orders are usually bestowed a calamity making it taboo to go against any of The Usagi's commands.

Personality: Mellow; he hate's dealing with troublesome thing and you'll never see him without his bunny mask.

ketsueki kyōtei: couples are to make a slit in their palm and join their hands, making it so that their blood will mix and therefore forming a sort of 'blood pact'. The cut is done with a ceremonial knife and is usually handled by an official Ashura priest so that the cut will not create any scarring. It is done 8 days before the wedding ceremony.

kane no hibiki: couples are to venture into the mounts of East Kai and ring the large bell found at one of Raiva's Shrine. Only the most important prayers and blessings are asked for here due to the difficulty of reaching the place. Couples must venture in alone for the ceremony.

arainaga: females are to bathe at Mizuha (a sacred waterhole found near the base of Ido waterfall.) at night during the full moon; males are to bathe at the base of Ido waterfall, some even required to stand underneath the waterfall. This ceremony is also known as 'The Cleansing'. It is the first ceremony to be done.

Dark hair colors do exist but black is rare; unlike the Ashura, there is not much discrimination towards hair colors in the Fukami. Although having white hair would attract some "oohs" and "ahhs".

Eye color may range but regardless, the pupils of a Fukami are slightly more oval compared to others (cat-like pupils). Children with strong Okami blood are known to have gold-tinted eyes.

The Fukami family values cunning, wit and loyalty. They believe in using charm and intellect to get what they want; and they are more likely to pay or convince someone to do their dirty work. Compared to the Ashura, the Fukami are more developed in Arts due to their location.

They run most of the important businesses in west Kai, contributing to the kingdom's growing economy. Fukami's prejudiced view on the Ashurans: they think their brutes and/or savages.

[/div] [div class=post][div class=title]Marriage Ceremonies[/div]The Fukami clan is known to have a multitude of marriage ceremonies due to the diversity in the clan. Not all these ceremonies are followed and there are some more popular than others. The Engagement between the Ashura and Fukami will focus on the Fukami clan's most popular and ancient wedding ceremonies.

tea giving ceremony: Couples are to gather in their respective homes and serve tea to their parents and elders. After serving tea, their elders will usually bless the couple with a gift such as jewellery or money. Children and younger individuals may also approach the couple to receiving blessings from them in the form of sweets (usually konpeito) or money (coin). There ceremony is meant to be a lively one of sorts where the couple's family gets to know their bride or groom to be.

sentaku suru: ceremony takes place a day before the wedding ceremony. In Fukami, wedding rings are not bought but made. The stone, metal and design is to be designed by each respective partner. Skilled ring-makers (an occupation in West Kai dedicated to wedding ring making) are commissioned to make rings designed by the couple. The rings are made to represent each individual's feelings for their respective partners. This unique ceremony makes it so that almost no wedding ring is alike. (*Engagement rings are usually more for decorative purpose and are the wedding rings presented in sentaku suru. Sometimes, couples may buy a separate set of wedding rings to wear for convenience sake.)

tamashī no odori: A festive ritual dance held by the shrine maidens under the Okami. Couples are to participate in the dance which will count as the 'seal' or final ritual of the marriage/engagement ceremony.

nine-tail hopping: considered the be the most troublesome ceremony; few actually complete this but those who do are usually found to have a very happy and secure marriage. Similar to kane no hibiki, couples are to visit all nine of San's' Shrines which are scattered all across West Kai. Couples are to pray to each shrine to receive their blessings. It is said that after visiting all nine, couples will be given the Okami's full blessing, although most people are too lazy to visit them all.

The Engagement
x
With the names of the chosen four announced, the four are to meet at Tengoku Temple to meet their respective partners. The Engagement Ceremony will occur in a course of a ten days, giving the couples time not only but to complete each clan's respective engagement traditions but to know one another before they are sealed in matrimony.

Due to the fact that the two clans are still at odds with each other (and a marriage between the two are unheard of) families who plan to attend or take part in the wedding and engagement ceremonies are allowed to wear masks. A crow mask for the Ashura clan and a fox mask for the Fukami.

• Kisara ❀ Fukami •

The rain pattered quietly over grey-tiled floors, pulling down petals of pink down with its fall. Honey-tinted eyes watched with dismal gloom as thin branches and its blooms struggled to withstand the unexpected spring downpour. The sun continued to shine brightly overhead despite the rainfall and the young heir could not help but be reminded of one of the many folklores told in her clan: a fox's wedding.

The word 'wedding', even when uttered in her mind, made her stomach churn with apprehension. She fought at the urge to run away, to bolt right here and then, letting her legs carry her as far as they could go. For the fifteenth time, Kisara folded and unfolded her hands. Lithe fingers remembered the warmth of her brother's hands as she walked down the corridor.

They had held hands on their journey down to Central Kai and up the way to Tengoku Temple; the last time she had done that with him was when they were thirteen. It had been seven years then and despite the childish notion, Aichiiro's large palms anchored her. It both comforted and pained her to know that her brother had been drag into the unfair ordeal. She could vaguely remember his stiff reaction at the news. Like herself and just anyone in the Fukami clan, he had been more than just upset.

Crescent shaped marks had been dug into the back of his palm, ones matching the shape of Kisara's neatly-kept nails; and yet Aiichiro had made no word of complaint when she did. Knuckles stayed whitened as the two shared the silent trip up the temple and Kisara knew that words were not needed for the two to express each others' fears and feelings. When the two were separated to meet their respective partners, the shrine maidens had almost needed to pry at cold fingers.

"You may wait here. The Usagi will send someone to fetch the both of you soon," the shrine maiden said upon reaching the end of the corridor. A sliding screen door was opened and Kisara was lead into the near-empty room. Save for the vase of flowers in the corner, only two other pieces of furnishing was there: a pair of velvet seat cushions facing one another adorned the center of the room.

"Wait--" Kisara called out, before the shrine maiden can turn to leave. "My brother... will he be alright?" she asked, words hesitant but laced with sisterly concern.

The shrine maiden smiled in reassurance, palms gently pushing away at Kisara's hands which kept the sliding door opened. "Yes. I can assure you that no harm will come to him."

"A-and... my fiance," the word was swallowed down like a heavy weight of iron, "He's..." her voice trailed off, mind unsure of what to ask. A pink tongue darted over colored lips and before she could finish, the shrine maiden cut her off eight concerning words:

"You'll just have to find that out yourself."

The sliding door was shut before her and like a prisoner given the life sentence, Kisara felt herself being caged in. Behind her, she could hear the door on the opposite side slide open. Reluctance and fear kept her from turning back to check, and she did not need to see him to know who he was. The famous Ashuran prince had made his entrance.

Aiichiro Fukami

Listening to the quiet pitter patter of the rain, it was the only thing he could do to keep his mind off of the event that was to happen in a few moments. The calming sound of the rain falling down onto the tiled floors, his face showing a clear expression of a downcast feeling. His beautiful golden eyes had a gloomy look to them as he looked at the rain as it feel upon some trees around them, seeing the blooms of it failing to stay up as it poured upon them. Yet despite it all, the sun still shone brightly overhead.

In ten days, it was going to be his wedding with the rival clan's princess. A day that he couldn't possibly imagine would have ever happened in a million years. He hoped that it was all but a simple dream or possible nightmare, and that he was to wake in a few moments. But it was all just futile, he knew that it was reality and that he should be facing it right now. The wedding is already planned after all, he couldn't change it now even if he wanted. It was ordered by the Usagi after all.

He held the hand of his sister as he slowly walked alongside her as they made their way from Central Kai to the Tengoku Temple, feeling her nails just digging into the back of the palm of his hand and making little shapes resembling a crescent moon. He didn't mind though, he understood this was a hard thing to experience, as he was to experience it as well after all. He made no comment and kept himself silent. Holding the hand of his sister, it reminded him of the last time they had done this.

It was so many years ago, back when they were just thirteen years old. It reminded him of how much bigger his hands were compared to hers, which had felt much more delicate compared to his large ones. Oh how much they had grown since then. When they had reached The Tengoku Temple and were to be separated from each other, it was hard to let go of her hand that the shrine maidens almost had needed to pry them off each other. Upon reaching the end of the corridor, he was brought into a nearly bare room. Except for a few vases for flowers, and a pair of cushions laid to face each other. It was then he was told to wait here until the Usagi sends someone to get him and his new fiance.

Upon the closing of the sliding door, he felt like he had just been put into a room alone with someone that he couldn't possibly like. And until the time the other comes in, he got himself lost into his thoughts as he usually does. Daydreaming again as he does every single day. His thoughts we're composed of whether his sister was alright, what the possible outcome would be, and so many more. He stared into the wall in front of him as he did, and hadn't noticed the sound of the sliding doors behind him, indicating they were already here. But still, he was daydreaming.

Ashura Takara

In the midst of the cloudless shower, a hooded figure stood with an umbrella opened overhead. A gloved hand peeked out from under the eaves of the umbrella to catch the cold raindrops which had mixed with the dainty pink petals of the sakura trees which decorated the entire area. These actions held no real motive, however. It was simply that watching the small pool of water overflow and slowly drip down his hand like tears seemed to have somewhat of a calming effect on him.

Takara was soon rudely broken out of his reverie when the shrine maiden in charge of guiding his cousin and him prompted him to move along with an impatient clearing of her throat. Nodding to signify his compliance with her demands, the grey-haired man turned to follow the shrine maiden once again, but not without first pulling the pristine cloth of his hood lower over his hair, yet another one of his nervous habits that he had yet to ease himself out of.

The rest of the trek to the temple was without much idle talk, likely due to the obvious tension in the air. Being that his only companions were a cousin he seldom exchanged words with and a guide who lacked much of a friendly mien, the air felt charged and thick, enough so that he was surprised that his breathing had yet to come to a stop. His only comfort were his own thoughts of “you’ve been through worse” and “if you worry, you’ll only suffer twice” as they drew closer and closer to their dreaded destination, but even those words seemed to be unable to convince him that he’d “manage to get through this”. What was about to happen within ten days’ time was the single thing which jeopardized his freedom the most.

And this time, there was nothing he could do to fight it. Not now, and possibly not ever.

Once led to the doors to the room that he was to meet his...fiance, Takara requested that he be left to open the door and enter the room on his own to which the shrine maiden surprisingly agreed, although she seemed the slightest bit skeptical of his rather strange request. WIth a few words and an explanation that he was to wait in the room until the Usagi arrived, the girl daintily removed herself from the corridor to perform any other duties that she may have had.

Placing his hand gently on the door frame, the grey-haired man contemplated on taking the opportunity to escape. Emerald orbs glistened from the shadows cast by his upturned hood and gave the door a hard stare as if imploring it for an answer or some premonition. However, he already knew from the shrine maiden’s actions that fleeing would be futile. Additionally, while he might not necessarily have been accepted in his family, he was still an Ashuran prince capable of potentially sullying his family’s names. His own pride refused to allow him to run with his tail tucked between his legs and in turn dishonoring not only himself but also his family. Freedom was something fought for, not something gained by cowardly actions.

Sliding the door open with utmost care as if he were fearful of the fact that it may break, the door was slid shut almost as suddenly as he had decided to open it. He itched with the desire to slap himself for his blunder, but the realization that the princess of the Fukami had arrived in the room ahead of him came as a surprise, warranting his instinctive action.

Sliding the door back open, this time in a much more firm manner, Takara lightly stepped into the room but made sure to keep his space. The blonde had yet to turn around, whether it be due to anxiety or simple snobbishness. Regardless, it would be rude to disturb someone most likely undergoing her last bits of mental preparation, and quite frankly, he wasn’t quite sure what to do either.

The door was slammed to a shut almost immediately after being opened. The sound startled her, making her flinch, turning back suddenly only to see that she was still in the room alone. She was confused as much as she was surprised and waited a beat before the door slid open once more. Not wanting to be caught staring, on reflex she turned back, half-fearful and half-wondering why the Ashuran prince had opened the door twice. Was it part of their culture? Have they never used a sliding door before? (lol savage).

Gold eyes bore holes in the door in front her, willing them to open; it wasn't the first time the girl had wished for psychic powers. Maybe if she did, she would not be as worried as she was now. In the silence, she could feel her heart hammering in her chest. What if he was as brutish and as barbaric as the stories made him out to be? Would he angry if she ignored him? Would he hit her if she did?

The babe allowed herself to gulp once before putting on a brave face; being Fukami, acting was like second nature. If he plans to attack her, she'll just have to strike first. Although her slender build could hardly compare to an Ashuran, Kisara had enough confidence in her abilities to at least land a blow to paralyze him long enough for her to run away. She hadn't taken up all those defense classes at young for nothing.

Turning around once more, Kisara faced her soon-to-be-husband, eyes closed but lashes fluttering open after a second of steeling her will. She had expected to see a rather buff, ugly, red-eyed ravenhead (who was hopefully dressed and not in fur striped loincloths like her aunts and uncles told her they wore), but instead was greeted with pale white; paler and purer than the color of snow. Somehow, this made her all the more fretful inside, but instead of letting it show, she smiled, a trained polite kind of smile.

He was tall, probably around the same height as her brother. The hood concealed most of his face but the honey-brunette could swore she saw pale locks peek from underneath. Was he Fukami? Did he enter the wrong room? There was no way someone who looked so elegant could be Ashuran. (lol more racism)

Unsure and wary, Kisara voiced her question, "Are you the one called by The Usagi?" She was careful not to use any family names in case she were to offend the stranger.

》Hanami Ashura 《

The walk from our home was mostly awkward, the sound of silence deafened the Ashurian Princess. Her distant cousin Takara was a light haired prince from the same clan as herself, although both lived in the same land, they rarely exchanged words. Rain was lightly falling, despite the sun faintly shining, the weightless droplets against the girl's parasol. Ironic is it not? A ray of sun, and a drop of water, two polar opposites, yet they are coming together at the same time. It does seem to be coincidental, as it is a parallel to the princess's current situation; she is to be married off to a prince of the Ashura's opposing clan, the Fukami's.

Crows lined the trees on the path to the temple, crowing often. Crows were considered as mascot of sorts to the Ashura clan, it was the sign of their Tengu deity Raiva, some can say she is being personified by the princess on this day. Hanami was wearing an outfit fitting for her Clan. She was dressed in a black kimono, matching her obsidian colored hair, which was tied up in a traditional bun with various ornaments that closely resembled Sakura Blossoms. Around her wrists were matching lace bracelets with crow feathers fashioned into them.

She breathed out a sigh as they reached the temple, this was it. The future that she must accept, the future that she has been condemned to, it has her held by the throat, clenching tighter and tighter with every step she takes towards the temple. Upon entering the temple, Takara requests to enter at his own will, and so he does, albeit very awkwardly.

As the shrine maiden walked away to tend to her other duties, Hanami is left alone in the corridor, in front of her is her own door. There will be a Fukami in this room, he will by her husband for the rest of her life, unless an unfortunate tragedy were to occur on their honeymoon night. (Ashura's violent humor)

With a deep breath and a quick think through of what she was going to do next, the princess steps up to the door, and sides it open slowly. In the room sat a prince, his head was faced in the opposite direction, though she has already seen enough. White. Gross. It was much to bright for her, too bland. She didn't expect more though, this is a Fukami after all. Hanami walks over to her own pillow, and kneels, staring at the floor in silence.

After what seems like ten minutes of piercing silence, Hanami decides to break it. In a powerful unbreakable voice, she musters out. "Hello. I am Hanami." She then looks up to see his eyes. Gold. Just as shiny as her cousin's, it is almost as if Takara was born to be a Fukami, but burdened with the mark of Ravia. The tension in the room was high, two members of different clans, to marry? It was almost too much tension for Hanami to handle, but handle it she did, for she is a princess. It is her duty to bring peace, and she must learn to accept it.

A ray of sun, and a drop of water, two polar opposites, yet they are coming together

Ashura Takara

Had it not been for the way that he had been raised, Takara might have been sweating bullets by the time the honey-brunette finally made up her mind to turn around. Such an action was neither dignified nor elegant, and he had been trained to never allow his enemies the opportunity to sense his fear or insecurities—not that the delicate looking girl before him was necessarily an enemy, at least not yet. However, his emotionless gaze faltered for a split second at the strange action of the girl hesitatingly opening her eyes, as if she feared what she would see. His hair and eyes being described as disgusting was commonplace back at home, but was his appearance really that repulsive to look at? He honestly didn’t know whether to feel self-conscious of indignant at this point.

Quickly brushing off the “insult” that hadn’t even been voiced, Takara met the princess’ scrutinizing gaze with one of his own. She had smiled, sure, but he had long learned the hard way that anyone who showed “kindness” on the first meeting was either doing so out of obligation or for some indecent plan to be executed in the future. Besides, he didn’t appreciate being studied like a lab rat. Was there something strange on his face?

His thoughts were soon answered by an inquiry, specifically one questioning whether or not he had been called by the Usagi. Seeing the question as rather odd as no person would ever wish to intrude upon this room unless forced to, Takara blinked once until something finally clicked. oh...OH. It seemed that although he seldom made blunders, when he did, they were quite major. His faux pas this time? He still had his hood on. First was the incident with the door. Now it was the failure to remove his hood in a timely manner. If he could have excused himself to bash his head on the nearest wall, perhaps he may have done so, because even a child wouldn’t have made mistakes on this level of stupidity.

Deciding that he had kept the princess of the Fukami waiting for his response long enough, Takara allowed for his mind to return to a relatively placid state in order to answer with a level tone. Normally, he’d wait to be introduced as that was only proper etiquette, but seeing that they were going to be alone for a fair amount of time, he was likely better off introducing his own self.

Takara slowly raised both hands to grab a hold of his hood and closed his eyes as he felt the smooth fabric slip off his head and on to his shoulders. Flicking them back open, the grey-haired man gave a slight smile before providing the princess with a fluid bow, one of a degree that neither showed submissiveness nor a lack of respect. “Ashura Takara of the Ashura Clan. I am here upon the orders of The Usagi and apologize for any rude behavior which I may have displayed.”

Regardless of the extent which he detested this arrangement, the girl before him had had no hand in this, and he wasn’t the type to lash out at one who had done him no serious wrong. At the moment, it was best to just focus on avoiding pointless conflicts.

• Kisara ❀ Fukami •

There was a number of things Kisara expected to see underneath the white hood: a horn, an extra body part, perhaps even an animal (her first thought was a snake but like all minds, it wandered to the different possibilities, each one getting cuter and smaller than the last until the image of a tiny hamster nestled underneath the Ashuran male's locks was drawn). What she hadn't expected (nor wanted) to see, were fair ashen locks--the same shade of silver Kisara had seen in her favored cousins.

Something wedged itself in her throat as a mixture of feelings threatened to overtake her. Light hair colors were familiar among the Fukami but only a rare selection of them were ever blessed with colors close to white. Her brother, Aiichiro, had been one of those children. Her own flaxen hair, though beautiful and tumbled in seamless waves down her back, paled in comparison to snow-colored locks.

As a child, she had kept her jealousy and insecurities well to herself, throwing tantrums and demanding more attention because of feelings of inferiority. There was active effort to be better, not only because she was the older sibling but because she was to be the heir. Often a time, she worried needlessly over the thought of her brother taking over her position; but given his air-headed (sorry Aiichiro, Kisara still loves you though) nature, her concerns were superfluous.

It had taken her a good number of years to get over her feelings of inferiority, but love for her brother had eventually became the victor in her internal struggle. Now another problem arose. Sure, she was no longer envious of her brother's hair color but what of her husband to be? An Ashuran nonetheless. It was as though the gods were laughing at her.

Perfect smile in place, Kisara returned the bow with the traditional Fukami curtsy. Being a princess, she had formal etiquette beaten into her at young. Introductions were the least of her concerns.

"It's fine*." Kisara answered in formal speech (*translated to: It is forgiven). "It is my pleasure to meet you. I am Fukami Kisara of the Fukami Clan." Her introduction was met with a brief pause. Eyes flickered briefly to the cushions on the floor and then to the open door. Judging from the lack of footsteps heard, Kisara doubted The Usagi was in any rush to fetch them soon. "Shall we sit?" she asked, neither lowering her status nor rudely displaying hers.

Met with agreement, the petite dame sat across from Takara. Her cat-like eyes studied the male's features in modest curiosity. "How was your journey... Takara*?" She asked, unsure if she should call him by his name. It was rare for couples in Fukami to address their lover formally; but to Kisara, Takara was no more than a stranger.

Aiichiro Fukami

Immersed in his own thoughts and lost within them, Aiichiro had not even noticed the entering of his new fiance, the Ashura Clan's Princess. He was too busy thinking of what his new fiance was to look like, and of what their attitude was to be like. From the things he's heard of the Ashura, and how that they were nothing but brutes and savages. The stories that he's heard from quite a few of his relatives had described them as such, and because of them, he was to be expecting a woman that was quite muscular, a bit ugly and had eyes that were as red as fresh blood with a raven's mask to be coming into the room.

And there was the issue of what they might treat him like, whether or not they might treat him terribly it not. From what he's heard from numerous older relatives, they tend to describe them as some pretty horrible people. Whether or not he was going to be the dominator or she would be the dominator, whether or not the relationship would either be terrible because of all this rivalry between the clans or just plain okay, whether or not she was going to treat him like nothing but something less than that of garbage, or whether they even have a chance of hitting it off.

Something of which that he had decided was something that would be nearly impossible to be with nothing but the slimmest of chances of ever happening. Such a relationship could only fail. He doesn't wish to spend the rest of his life with someone he doesn't love, and he's sure that the other does feel the same about this stupid marriage as well.

As he just kept on being lost among the deep, deep sea of his own thoughts, a sudden disturbance then came. It was the powerful voice of the only other person who was in the room, the one he hadn't noticed come in as he just stared at the wall endlessly thinking, his new fiance. Breaking his trance and bringing him back to reality, he reacted with a bit of a start but quickly regained his composure. Now, it was time for him to act accordingly like how he does whenever with some important people.

Making himself look a bit more professional in some way, and looking more serious. But before he had decided it was time for him to respond back to the greeting, he'd noticed how her appearance was extremely different from he had been expecting. She seemed so much more different than he'd ever imagined, she didn't look very muscular nor did she look very ugly at all, and was quite the opposite actually. And neither do those eyes of hers were red like what he'd expected, they were the color of a beautiful grey instead. Then he'd finally responded to her with a voice that had a tone of seriousness, "...Hello. I'm the prince of Fukami, Aiichiro. It's nice to meet you, I guess." And from there on, he now felt a certain air of awkwardness around them.

Ashura Takara

Fukami Kisara, was it?

Being studied by the girl like he was some strange sort of anomaly made him half regret his decision to remove his hood. However, a Fukami would no doubt already hold a fair amount of distrust towards an Ashura, and it wouldn't do to fuel that sentiment. Thus, when the petite princess suggested that they take a seat, Takara complied with only a brief nod, although he did raise an eyebrow ever so slightly when the Fukami had chosen to refer to him by his first name when asking him how his journey to the temple had been. First names typically only being used by family or close associates aside, it was a bit of a strange feeling to be called by his proper name rather than "you" or some other derogatory title. It wasn't a bad feeling, though, so the Ashuran prince chose to question it no further.

"It was a fairly enjoyable experience," Takara started with an appreciative nod, "There are a wider variety of flowers which thrive here." The "fairly enjoyable" was a bit of a lie, but it was at least a half-truth. The tension in the air had distracted him from the various sights they had passed on their way to the temple, but it was true that he had at least given himself enough time and attention to admire some of the flora, since it was rare that he was granted permission to travel. The winter blossoms of East Kai were beautiful and elegant in their own way, but the ones in Central Kai possessed a certain vibrance not present in those of his home territory.

Choosing to move the conversation along to prevent it from becoming stale and bringing about an awkward atmosphere, Takara refrained from elaborating on the matter concerning the scenery. "And you, princess? he asked, while secretly hoping that The Usagi would arrive soon. He meant no offense to the princess, but small talk had always been something doable but not preferred if he did not know the other party very well, and the girl sitting across from him was certainly not someone he could consider familiar. He was going to have to get to know her sooner or later, but the day had already been rather mentally draining, and he wasn't quite prepared for a round of "pay careful attention to what you say so that you don't start a war" today.

• Kisara ❀ Fukami •

Whether or not she liked it, engaging conversations was something she was brought up to do at birth. As a Fukami and born in the region of Kai where business, trading and arts bloomed; one had to become adept in commerce to survive the competitive environment. Of course, even with skills as such, it did little to make the stiff conversation any more pleasant.

The topic of flowers however, piqued her interest. With the line of pink flowers shewn on the right side of her head, it wouldn't take a genius to tell that the flaxen babe had a liking to Kai's flora. To her shame, she had been too busy worrying about her newfound fate than to admire the view. She took mental note to pay more attention next time--given that there even is a next time; and if there wasn't, she would simply have to ask her brother. Out of the siblings, Aiichirou was far more laid-back than she was.

She wanted to hear more about the flowers, more so than telling her side of the story (one which was far from enjoyable). "It was fine. Like you, I also enjoyed the scenery. The cherry blossoms seem to bloom much brighter here than in West Kai. The hydrangeas as well. I never known them to grow in shades of blue," she answered, lying seamlessly. The flowers were something she read about in her geographic studies. And as much as she'd like to, the babe hadn't looked around throughout her trip up to Tengoku Temple. "I'm glad you seemed to face no difficulties finding the Usagi's Temple. Most get lost when they reach center point."

She, herself and the rest of the Fukami accompaniment would have ended lost as well if not for the shrine maiden who lead the way. The mist which shrouded near the top of the mountain was strange, hiding paths Kisara didn't even knew existed. Like a barrier of sorts, the moment they stepped onto The Usagi's grounds, the mist had cleared, leaving no trace. (*btw like the Fukami, even the Ashura needed a guide to get to where they are now.)

The sound of footsteps alerted the slender babe. A knock was heard at the door behind her.

"The Usagi is now here to make his appearance," the shrine maiden announced, opening the door.

Out of respect and courtesy, Kisara got to her feet to stand besides Takara. She kept an arm's length distance between them and looked forward, not knowing what to expect or see. There was little known about the popular figure of Kai. Half expecting to see a walking, talking bunny or a grown man of power and status; Kisara never would have thought that The Usagi was no more than a child.

Cloaked in midnight blues and deep greys, the Usagi wore an ornamented bunny's mask over his face, revealing only his mouth and raven locks. The top of his head reached Kisara's mid torso but despite his appearance, the child eluded an ethereal aura.

"Hello. Excuse the current appearance. My late body was murdered again," The Usagi spoke, muttering the last part lowly to himself. Kisara wasn't sure if she had heard him correctly but the shrine maidens behind him certainly did. If animated, they would have sweat dropped. "I'm The Usagi. I'm sure the two of you have a lot of questions you want to ask me and I promise I'll answer them all in due time. Time is something we unfortunately don't have at the moment." He turned, gesturing the two individuals to follow out of the room. "Come now, before our little crow kidnaps away our princess."

There was a small, unreadable smile on his face. His words were enigmatic and coming from a Fukami, The Usagi did not speak as though he was a child.

------ on the other side.

The conversation shared between the young Fukami prince and Ashuran princess was brought to an abrupt stop as the door behind the Ashuran princess ripped open with a ferocity that could make anyone jump.

"Hanami!" a familiar voice exclaimed, running forward to grab the young princess by the wrist. Shu Ashura was the fifth kin in the eighth branch of the Ashuran family making him a status above Takara (had Takara been born with black hair, it would be a different story) and a few ranks below Hanami. Being a close cousin to the babe, Shu had always looked up to the Ashuran heiress. He admired her, adored her even. The news of Hanami's engagement were kept hushed, only known to the main members of the family. When word had reached Shu, his anger flared, causing him to commit one of Kai's greatest sins: murder of the exalted.

"We need to get out of here fast before they catch us. I won't just sit by and let you marry this, this wretched barbarian," he exclaimed, voice hushed despite him shooting a look of disgust at Aiichirou.

Ashura Takara

At the mention of “hydrangeas”, Takara paused for a brief moment to recall a visual of the flower that Kisara had just mentioned in passing. Ah right, the flower whose color supposedly depended on the soil it was planted in. While he appreciated the traditional cherry, plum, and camellia trees which he frequently napped under and found a certain sense of peace when gazing at the flora in the area, he was far from a fanatic who could instantly any flower mentioned. Luckily, his knowledge was not tested as the girl quickly moved on to a new topic, but even this was quickly set to the side at the sound of footsteps nearing the room and a knock that echoed throughout the room soon after, signaling the arrival of the shrine maiden and, most importantly, The Usagi.

As the two stood side by side with an arm’s breadth in between them, Takara could tell without a doubt that neither had expected what they would see next. Although the span of 21 years of his life so far had been one marked with little travel, the grey-haired boy could still say with certainty that he had met his fair share of people. Of those people, the ones in power always seemed to tower over him, whether it be in physical height, in presence, or in both. However, this figure before them was different in more ways than one. For the first time in his life, when he had expected to look up or at a level height, his gaze was forcibly cast downwards to observe the new presence in the room. Yet the fact that the child in question appeared to be barely half his size was not what perturbed him. The boy’s aura lacked the typical overwhelming sense of suppression that most attempted to exude. In its place was something much more delicate and subtle yet holding a certain grasp of power in a much more ancient and unearthly manner than most. Not to mention, the child’s speech was much too refined for one who appeared of his age...

“My late body was murdered again.”

“—And awfully blunt, too.” Takara unknowingly murmured when he just barely caught the small bit of extra commentary The Usagi had decidedly added (but fortunately for Takara, it was nigh unlikely that anyone could tell what he had meant so long as they couldn’t read further into his thoughts). As if to prevent anyone from contemplating its meaning for too long, the minute priest quickly ushered them out of the room with more cryptic words, this time mentioning “before our little crow kidnaps away our princess”.

Crow? Takara knew for sure that there was no way that the masked child was referring to him, but he could also tell that the only other “crow” on this mountain that The Usagi could possibly be referring to was a person who wouldn’t do something foolish—unless, there was an uninvited extra party who dared to desecrate these sacred grounds. It suddenly dawned on him that the priest’s first peculiar comment may not have been completely random and may have been referring to a fairly recent event. However even if this speculation turned out to be true, there was still something that was bothering him.

Who would be harebrained enough to plot against The Usagi?

》Princess Hanami Ashura《

||status|| Objective: Meet Fukami Prince || Location: Tengu Temple

The atmosphere was turned instantly awkward. Was it even possible to make it worse? Hanami supposes that she should find something to chat about, at least until whatever happens next. "It is nice to meet you as well," She responded quietly. There were many quiet sounds that could be heard throughout the Temple that soothed the young Princess, raindrops hitting the cobble paths and intricate roofing, the temple itself was an amazing edifice. Off in the distance, in some garden presumably, the peaceful THONK of a Shishi Odoshi can be heard, though very repetitive, to most it brings happy memories and helps many sleep at night.

As Hanami's mind recessed itself from the reality of the situation, the overbearing tension and awkwardness seemed to fade from the air between the two, for her at least. Her mind wandered more often these days, bringing her to memories of better times. Since she had received the letter, the princess had spent most of her time dreaming of a happy future, a fantasy. Assuming that her new set path will be painful and full of dread, she couldn't help but to ponder ways to escape from her life, many times contemplating a grim solution. Hanami has resolved to push through however, for the greater good of her people.

The duties of a princess, or prince, are very strict and submissive. They must make many sacrifices, tarnishing any freedom of choice that they had originally thought to acquire at adulthood, all for the "common good." Many a prince and princess have thought of abandoning this duty, but maintaining their role, though it would be a very grave change; most times leading to a Dictatorship or other totalitarian type government.

Casting these fantastical daydreams and illusions of freedom behind, Hanami asserts herself into reality once more, taking charge of the situation. "What are we waiting for? This is the beginning of the ceremonies, is it not?" She questioned, playing with the black feathers around her wrists. These were the epitome of fashion amongst her people; Lace and Feathers. The bracelets felt as if they were burning her wrists, they may show great signs of beauty, but, be that as it may, they are but binds, if not shackles, holding her wrists together, smothering any chance for escape from this internal hell, this beautiful hell, this inevitable fate. . . the fate of romance.

Hanami had been so wrapped up in her own head, she failed to notice Shu at first, she snapped out of this daze when she was jerked up by the wrist. "We need to get out of here fast before they catch us. I won't just sit by and let you marry this, this wretched barbarian," he exclaimed Hanami was very confused. "What is going on? Why do you seem so scared?" She demanded answers, there was too much going on without this freak out.

But, be that as it may, they are but binds, if not shackles, holding her wrists together, smothering any chance for escape from this internal hell, this beautiful hell, this inevitable fate.

Aiichiro Fukami

The awkward atmosphere that surrounded the two of them made this meeting much worse then it already was, he was already a bit nervous about this already and it just made it feel so much worse. He's facing the person who would be his future wife after all, even if it was a person who he would never even think about marrying ever in his life. He should probably make a good impression with a person like that, but with a person like this, that could not be possible. The two were of rival clans who hated each other after all. He has been in many different situations where pressure has been put onto him, but never one like this.

Though despite all of those thoughts and feelings, he didn't let any of it show. Aiichiro was acting as if he was talking to a person he'd been acquainted with. As a Fukami, it was only natural for him to do so. The different sounds that surrounded them as time just passed were what he focused on in order to feel calm about the current situation, those soothing sounds coming from outside. The sound of the rain outside hitting the ground he could still hear from inside of the room, it calmed him.

As he tried calming himself, focusing on the sounds around him and eventually just getting lost into more of his thoughts and not managing to hear what his new fiance had just said about ceremonies, something that was sudden happened. The sudden arrival of a person who he had never seen before in his life, it brought him back into reality.

It was a male, shouting her name and grabbing her by the wrist. Then saying something about needing to get out of her quickly. And felt offended by the fact that he had just been called a a wretched barbarian. He felt offended of course, because it was not true. The title of barbarian was more fitting to the damn Ashura Clan to him, he'd been led to believe about how they were savages and all that throughout his life after all. Hearing that angered him slightly, though he controlled his anger and just kept himself calm.

Now, in such a situation, Aiichiro has no idea on what he should be doing right now. Whether or not to stop this thing, just let it happen or ask what's going on. He leaned towards the second option, as he really didn't mind much that he was going to take her. He does not want to marry her. In fact, he wanted him to take her. But due to the fact that this is on the orders of the Usagi, he couldn't afford for this to happen. So he went with his third option. "I'm sorry but, what might you be doing?" He said to the person.

• Kisara ❀ Fukami •

The Usagi walked with long, quick strides and upon stepping out of the room, Kisara was certain the male was slightly taller than he was a minute ago. Following behind the Exalted and two other shrine maidens, the flaxen-haired babe kept pace with the others. Besides her was Takara and tailing behind them were four other shrine maidens. Crossing the corridor, they arrived at the other side of the temple block where a similar set of doors were presented.

Even before nearing, the Fukami heir could hear hushed shouting from inside. Concern instantly gripped her as she knew her brother not to be one to raise his voice easily. From inside the room she could faintly hear the words of defiance utter by a male's voice. It wasn't a voice she recognized and upon seeing raven hair, Kisara understood why.

She relaxed and tensed; the former at the fact that it was an Ashuran who was foolhardy enough to try such a harebrained scheme and the later at the prospect of that same Ashuran possibly hurting her brother. Small fists balled at her sides at the thought. Diplomacy or not, the honey blonde had no plans to sit back should her family be threatened.

"There's no time to explain. Don't you want to leave? We have to hurry!" the ravenhead male was saying as she dragged a very pretty raven beauty out of the room.

"I'm sorry, but what might you be doing?" The calm inflection of her brother's voice reassured her that he was fine. She looked over to the Usagi, somewhat nervous and unsure on what to expect.

"Don't speak to me, dog. Hanami's not going to marry--"

The male's words were cut off suddenly as he was taken by surprise by one of the the shrine maidens. His arms were flipped back and another shrine maiden came to hold the thrashing boy down. A silver blade dropped from this robes' pockets as terror and anger filled ruby orbs. His behavior -- more than his coloring -- reminded Kisara of what an Ashuran was: violent and unruly.

She took care to keep her expression neutral, eyes hardening at the sight before her. As hopelessness overwhelmed the young Ashuran boy, his aggression wilted. While his body slouched forward in defeat, his eyes shone with raged vengeance. Mixed with the blood-like coloring, just the look alone brought a shiver down Kisara's back. (unbeknownst to her, the Fukami carried a similar look in their light, cat-like eyes.) If glares were weapons, then the Usagi would have more than a dozen daggers in his face.

Surprisingly, the Usagi took no notice of the intruder and instead addressed the second couple with the same introduction as before. "Although I would've liked for you two to spend more time with each other, I'm afraid the, ahem, drawback, has caused a shift in things. I'm sure you're already aware of the ceremonies that you must under go. We'll be starting with arainaga. I've already called on the escorts who will be providing you transport to Ido. They're already waiting at the gates of the Temple. Unfortunately, I won't be joining you on your journey to East Kai (bc im lazy to travel rly) but I'm sure you'll fair well without me."

"Are you going to continue to mock me by ignoring me? If you want to kill me then do so quick!" the Ashuran intruder interrupted, bitter and harsh.

The Usagi turned to look at the male for the first time. Kisara was sure that he was raising a brow from underneath his mask. "I'm not going to kill you, but I'd appreciate it if your family would stop sending assassins out to get me," he turned, looking over at Kisara and Aiichirou, "Both families. I'd like a week without having to worry about getting poisoned or stabbed for once," he muttered, tucking his hands underneath the sleeves of his robes.

"Well, til then."

With a nod, the Usagi walked off with his two shrine maidens following after him. He disappeared from view as he entered deeper into the Temple. The two other shrine maidens directed Kisara, Hanami, Aiichirou and Takara outside to the gates of the temple where a large horse drawn Asian carriage awaited them. The remaining two shrine maidens stayed back, keeping the Ashuran boy restrained until his family members came to retrieve him.

Ashura Takara

He had to say, while it was certainly better than sitting in a room with a stranger all while trying not to choke on the awkward atmosphere, moving up and about the way that they currently were didn’t seem to make him feel all too much better. In the front was the Exalted Priest and two shrine maidens, to his side was his to-be-fiance, and behind him was yet another row of four shrine maidens. It was a feeling akin to being flanked by a pack of animals on the hunt, perhaps as a result of the clear tension still in the air.

A turn here and another there later, the group came to a slow before a set of doors similar to the ones that they had just left behind. From behind the delicate frame, a slur of voices could be heard, one in particular standing out from the rest. Takara could have sworn that the voice sounded eerily familiar to him, and the answer as to why soon came when a boy with raven hair forcefully dragged a pale hand out of the room. At this, the silverette’s placid expression warped into a sneer for just a passing moment.

So it was the little blackbird who clung to his cousin’s side like a leech. What was his name again? Oh right, Shu.

An icy glint settled itself in Takara’s eyes and its brilliantly colored hues seemed to only emphasize that effect as he looked upon the boy with clear distaste. He had always known that many of the Ashura and equally powerful families allowed their status to get to their head. However, the foolishness that he saw was a display that was newly discovered. Actually scratch that. This boy just completely devoid of shame and had not a speck of grace.

Wiping away his brief display of hostility, Takara silently chided himself for his lack of temperance. Normally, he’d completely ignore any emotions that would bubble up inside until his already low patience was aggravated. Regardless of the fact that he was already on edge, it was no excuse for potentially giving a bad impression and making his life harder in the long run. It was almost fortunate that he had refrained from exchanging any snide comments.

The silver-haired male quickly peeled his eyes away from the scene and refocused his attention to the Usagi who had begun explaining the tasks which they would be required to do within the next few days. Unfortunately, they were interrupted by yet another outburst by their “guest”.

Shut your sorry mouth before your mother gains something to cry about. Takara could already feel a tick throbbing once again. It was almost painful to keep a straight face at this point, and the Ashura was surprisingly glad to be ushered out and on their way to the carriage which would be toting them to East Kai.

“I hope you enjoyed that little spectacle?” Takara said to no one in particular as he slowly slid his hood back over the washed out color of his hair, his voice clearly laced with a hearty dose of sarcasm and wry humor. Yes, it was an amusing show and a fine day to match.

• Kisara ❀ Fukami •

The two couples had taken separate carriages. No doubt the intent for another chance at Matchmaking. The initial encounter was hardly enough to learn much about her new future husband and the ride to Ido was surely not going to be a short one. If Kisara had to estimate, she figured they would reach there by nightfall.

Had she been alone, the flaxen haired babe would've sighed. A whole day wasted on travel. Was this the life for a Fukami heir? She knew her life was going to be one full of duty and responsibility but who would've thought it to be so... boring.

Gold eyes flitted to the man sitting across from her in the small space they shared. She eyed him, wondering if it was a quirk of his to always wear his hood: even when indoors. His words made her confidence falter.

"Not so much as the next," she answered with care. Prejudices existed among the two clans and that was something without a doubt. Still, it was rude to make false judgments in front of the very person who sat before her. "Did you know him?" Her question was on all grounds of caution.

Outside, the rain pattered to a quiet stop. Puddles made reflected the cloudy skies ahead.

Ashura Takara

Being shoveled into a carriage to make a long trip that was likely to waste his entire day away was fine by him (not really). But doing so while alone with another person wasn’t. This was especially so when the person in question seemed to have a habit of staring, albeit more furtively than most. He was used to the stares of those within his family, true, but those eyes were always laced with malice and contempt as if staring down at a lesser being. The petite girl sitting directly across from him, however, hid her intentions well. Was it mere curiosity? Was she hoping to observe his weak points? Whatever the case, his tension subsided only when the Fukami’s Princess spoke, first to answer to his previous comment and secondly to ask a question of her own.

“Did you know him?” The question didn’t hit a particular sore spot, but the ashen-haired male clenched the black inner sleeve of the arm that had been previously folded above his left. Do I know him? He supposed so, though certainly not in the best of ways. Family they were; friends they were not. Like the rest of the Ashura, Shu had seen him as a mediocre existence. No, something even less than that—a roach. As for Takara, the raven-head was no crow but rather a dog, one that was so obsessed with the hierarchy that he would yap at the “Dirty Ashuran” for merely breathing the same air as his dearly beloved Hanami.

However, the Fukami’s heir had no need to know of such meaningless information, and there was no need for Takara to essentially delve into the prejudice he frequently faced, either. Just implying that they merely passed by each other from time to time would be enough. Loosening his grip on his sleeve and “adjusting it to a more comfortable position”, Takara hoped that his pathetic attempt to cover up that subtle—yet still noticeable—sign of discomfort would prevent any eyebrows from being raised. Still, Takara paused for a moment before giving his answer with carefully dictated words. “...no, I don’t suppose I do.”

In the brief silence that had ensued, the Ashuran Prince’s ears picked up the sound—or rather the lack thereof—of the rain subsiding until it came to a complete stop. Taking the opportunity to switch the topic, Takara peered out the window to observe the passing scenery. “So it’s just trees.” To his mild surprise, the words tinged with subtle disappointment which slipped out of his mouth weren’t quite what he was expecting. However, he didn’t particularly mind the slip up. At times, earnest words seemed to be of best fit, and the road they were traveling by was indeed devoid of much things of interest. The inevitable rattling of the wheels of the carriage likely scared off any fauna that might be hiding within the undergrowth, and little to no flora was growing by the mix of cobble and dirt upon which they were traveling on.

Hopefully, the entire trip to Ido Waterfall wouldn’t be so bland, or he had a feeling that he’d end up falling victim to sleep in the presence of someone who was more or less a complete stranger.

• Kisara ❀ Fukami •

If there were two things the Fukami were known for, it would be their deceit and their cunning. Having honed both these qualities made one's skills in perception and observation as keen as a fox (lol). Gold eyes flitted from any slight movement made and given how he was the only thing catching her attention in the carriage, merely an arm's length apart, it wasn't hard for her to pick up his discomfort. Discomfort normally gave way to lies, but none which Kisara could blame.

They were from enemy clans. It was natural for them to be wary of each other; but with the current procession of things, their marriage - the "holy matrimony" - would only be inevitable. Marrying an Ashuran was disgraceful but Kisara would greatly prefer getting to know her Ashuran spouse instead of co-existing as strangers.

She was ready to pose another question, one which she knew would dig into his background, possibly creating further unease; fearless, it was in her to pry even if it meant creating a tense ride five-hour ride to Ido. Her question took the backseat when Takara made his comment.

Curious, she looked out as well and made the smallest frown at the lack of scenery. "You're right. It's not always this barren in East Kai, I hope?" Kisara asked, her disappointment giving way to her lack of care in her words. "I mean no offense to your home land," she added softly, upon realizing her mistake.

Ashura Takara

Yet another question was sent his way in response to his comment, although an unexpectedly casual one at that, a fact that the honey brunette had clearly taken note of given that she had hastily tacked on her second statement. Should it have been any other Ashuran in the carriage with her, the person bristling at the potential jab at his or her country would have been more than likely so. However, as dutiful of an Ashuran Prince he was, the ashen-haired man lacked that extreme nationalistic pride that most Ashurans held. He didn’t hate his country; he just couldn’t bring himself to bear that large of a sense of patriotism for a country that he barely knew. And this brought him to the part of his fiance’s question that did bother him:

Takara’s “world” had consisted of his family’s estate and only the estate for the majority of his life. Any knowledge of places beyond those borders were gleaned from the books that he had managed to smuggle from the imperial library. In a sense, he was likely to be the least traveled of all marriage candidates to date. It was enough to even say his knowledge of East Kai’s general scenic features was barely greater than that of Kisara’s who had hardly ever stepped foot on East Kai soil.

However, the Ashuran Prince couldn’t afford to allow this girl to know of that fact, not to spare his dignity but rather to spare himself from any further questioning of his background, a mini crisis that he had just barely avoided only moments before. Perhaps if it were any other time and occasion, he would have been much less tight lipped about his circumstances, but, again, the brunette was a stranger at best, and he was currently in no mind to speak to a stranger about such things. Doing so would be like laying himself bare before her. He would have to make do with the things he did know.

“East Kai certainly lacks the capacity to produce blooms in the same way that West Kai does, although our winter gardens do have their own appeal.” The ashen-haired man’s expression shifted into that of a genuine smile at the recollection of the princess’ minor slip-up. In a sense, he was a bit relieved that even the owner of hat unsettling gaze had her moments.

As his gaze traveled back towards the window and back to the topic at hand, his emerald eyes softened from their previous stony gaze into one of glittering expectancy reminiscent to that of a child who had been presented something sweet for the first time. “East Kai’s rugged terrain makes it difficult to provide for much past sustenance farming, but it does have its own merits. You can say that the drab cliffs and forests that seemingly roll on without end have a hidden radiance that can only be unmasked in the illumination of the moonlight.” This much he knew was true. While he had only seen it once or twice with his own eyes, many of the mountains in East Kai were dotted with cliffs and overhangs which were decorated with lights—both natural and manmade—and flowing falls. The steepness of the drenched crags caused many places in East Kai to be perpetually covered in a thin veil of mist, providing a near mystical visual effect when the light of the moon reflected upon it.

“I’ve heard that West Kai holds some of the most beautiful gardens in the land. What are they like?” The mentions of East Kai’s geography brought Takara’s mind to wander towards West Kai’s features. There was only so much he could learn from the limited number of books he could get his hands on, so it was only a given that his knowledge of a foreign land would be so scarce. It couldn’t hurt to ask, yes?

• Kisara ❀ Fukami •

If Kisara had less discipline, she would've allowed herself to relax visibly. She had irrationally feared that her husband would be stand-offish, maybe even stoic and lacking in conversation. Even as sworn enemies, the honeyed babe would've liked to connect in someway to the person she's swearing her life to. Even hate was better than indifference.

When the questions were answered in full depth, she smiled; hazel eyes glazing at the thought of fairy-like lights twinkling in the dark expanse of East Kai. She would've honestly liked to see it, but it was rare and almost unheard of for a Fukami to venture into East Kai. Those who go down to Central are already shunned as Drifters and set a name for themselves.

"I'd like to see that. Do you think we'd be able to in Ido?" she asked, sounding genuinely hopeful. As their conversation went by, Kisara slowly opened herself up, fragment by fragment, piece by piece; but kept the same level of wariness as she did in the beginning. She was guarded but endearing, almost ideal to what a Fukami ought to be.

Her answers were given with smiling charisma and she told Takara of the different flora which bloomed in her homeland. Unlike the ashen haired male, Kisara had held a deep connection with where she was raised. Each place she had visited held a tender memory in her heart, whether it was the park where Aiichirou and herself had snuck off to as children or the gardens where they'd play hide n seek with her cousins; even the Okami shrines were valuable pieces of memory, tucked into the crevices of her heart.

"It's raining season now in East Kai so a number of flowers are known to bloom during this season. Pink hydrangeas, camellias, violets and peach trees," she listed, using her fingers as she rambled on. It was very "Fukami-like" to use gestures when she spoke. She was taught that it added charisma and it helped to keep people's attention. "We don't get much snow unless you venture up North but even then we have opened gardens for cherry blossom trees and spider lilies. If you like verdure, you should definitely come see when you can. I promise you it'll be breath-taking," she grinned, almost glowing with subtle pride and adoration for her land.

They chatted a bit more; conversation rising and falling from comfortable silences to awkward ones. An hour or two must've passed and the sun was beginning to lower, still quite far off from the horizon. If Kisara had to guess, she'd assumed it was slightly past lunch time.

The carriage was stopped and one of the coachmen passed word that they were stopping for a break, asking the two if they'd like to come out to stretch their legs as well. It was an offer they gladly accepted and an opportunity for Kisara to grab hold of her bearings.

They were deeper into East Kai now and only two hours away from Ido. They were recommended to have lunch before they set off again, which was something Kisara was grateful for. She hadn't eaten anything since breakfast and her stomach was beginning to protest.

Despite being in a mountainous village area, the group was able to find a nearby tea shop which served refreshments and local Kai desserts. It was a 'serve yourself' kind of place where one picked out the desserts they wanted and ordered tea at the counter. After paying, one can seat themselves at the benches and tables provided to enjoy both the scenery and the food.

After being cooped up inside the carriage for two hours, Kisara was more than grateful to take one of the benches outdoors. She was puzzled however, when she caught sight of kinako mochi. There was a puzzled but curious expression worn as she meekly asked Takara what it was.

"Is that... mochi? Why is it brown?" she asked, tempted in trying but also worrying about the taste.

Ashura Takara

The situation was still all rather bizarre to him, but at the least, it wasn’t nearly as unpleasant as it had been just moments before. Both parties had clearly lightened up, and the fair-haired princess had finally produced a smile—one that genuinely sparkled with hope rather than the mere formalities that they had both exchanged back at the temple. He was still unable to place his complete trust in someone he had known for barely a few hours, but if he were to ever admit that it was pleasant in its own way, it wouldn’t necessarily be a lie. It was nice to be able to talk to someone without being spat at for no reason other than having the “wrong hair color” for a change.

“By the time we arrive, yes.” Takara, too, allowed for his words to reveal a hopeful taper. As a person who had not been provided much of it during his childhood, the ashen-haired prince was one who held a sincere appreciation for things which gratified the eye—a trait clearly reflected in his style of swordsmanship and desire to chance upon more of the world’s scenic sights. Although he didn’t quite like the reason for his journey to Ido, he was comforted by the fact that it at least gave him the opportunity to see that breathtaking view he had dreamt so much of seeing.

As the conversation continued and the petite princess spoke of the gardens of West Kai, Takara couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy, an emotion rather rare to himself. It didn’t take much to figure from her words that the brunette was a person who had led a privileged life typical of one of high status. Every word and phrase that she poured into her description of her home country flowed smoothly into a single patchwork of art, no doubt a reminiscence rather than the recitation of a textbook. However, it didn’t appear to be a mere reminiscence either. She was speaking based upon what he assumed was fond memories, moments that she treasured deeply even to this day.

But jealousy wouldn’t beat him; he wouldn’t allow it to. Others had their lives, and he had his. If he made it his goal to gain the things that others had, then it was as good as if he were trying to live the life of someone else, and he had no need for such a superficial existence. That was the foundational philosophy that he had built his life upon this so far, and there was no need to change that way of thinking anytime soon.

Yet another two hours—give or take—had passed before the carriage finally came to a brief stop. Curious as to where they could possibly be as they were only less than two-thirds of the way to Ido judging from the current position of the sun, Takara accepted the coachman's offer to “stretch their legs” with much gratitude. However, it was only at the mention of a lunch break that the ashen-haired man finally took note of the fact that he had not had anything to eat since the early morning. He wasn’t quite so hungry, but given that he almost never felt or took notice of his hunger, he figured that it would be best to comply before he really did end up half-starving himself.

Had someone been carefully observing him during the first few paces that he had taken into the tea shop, they would have most likely laughed at how the Ashuran Prince looked as if he were a child stepping foot into a candy store for the first time. The food was without a doubt ones that he was very much familiar with, but the display and atmosphere of the store was of one that felt a bit foreign. As a result, Takara nearly missed Kisara’s question.

“Brown?” Takara’s gaze trailed towards where the brunette’s was until he was met with the sight of a particular treat that he both loved and hated: kinako mochi. But the question remained. Why wouldn’t it be brown? Could it be that it was a rarely served dessert in West Kai? “Ah, it’s just kinako mochi, mochi coated in roasted soybean flour. It tastes quite good, I assure you, although…”

—although it’s quite the messy thing to eat. Takara side-eyed the treat with a bit of a pained smile. He had excellent table manners, mind you. However, anything with kinako typically gave him trouble as the crumbs had the tendency to inevitably end up someplace where they weren’t supposed to. With the amount of care he put in when eating kinako mochi, the spillage was extremely minimal, but his usual white attire betrayed even the slightest of discolorations, the single setback which made him reconsider his choices in wardrobe. Powdered foods were just his Achilles Heel, he supposed.

• Kisara ❀ Fukami •

Takara's answer perked up Kisara's immediate interest. The word mochi alone had that affect on her, it being one of her favorite treats. The mochi she had known and grown up with had always been colored either pink, green or white and filled with an assortment of bean pastes. Having it covered in soybean flour - though she knew what it was, had never been something done as a norm in West Kai.

Feeling rather bold. Kisara ordered two of them from the shop-keeper. Gold-tinted eyes lit up animatedly as she did; a stark different from the ashen male who looked almost put off by the powdery dessert. The possibility of making a mess hadn't occurred to her yet. She would just have to learn the hard way.

Two sticks of dango and a hot glass of green tea accompanied her purchase. Her order was brought outside where her plate of food was placed on her lap as she sat on the bench. There was a large umbrella overhead, shielding whoever sat underneath from the sun's rays. There was enough space for three and while Kisara would've very much liked to sit with her brother, she had yet to see signs of his carriage. Perhaps they had stopped somewhere else for a breather. Knowing that he wasn't completely alone with the Ashuran heir made her feel relief. She made mental note to ask Takara about her soon to be sister-in-law.

Seeing him finish his order, she contemplated a moment on whether she should call him over. They were going to be stuck with each other for the next two hours and possibly more. Maybe he would like some time alone. While she didn't mind giving the man his space, she frowned at the thought of him sitting elsewhere when he could be by her side. It wasn't because she wanted his company but rather, because it would sting her pride should not anyone intentionally not sit with her. To a Fukami, it would be a loss of "face" and while she never did gesture him over, she kept enough space on the bench for him to sit if he wanted to.

Bitter by the own scenario she had drawn up in her mind, Kisara decided to focus her attentions on something else. The plate of kinako mochi was picked up and picking up a piece with her chopsticks, she popped one whole piece into her mouth. Biting it would only cause the soybean powder to fall off the mochi. Despite the smooth transition from the plate to her mouth, kinako powder had ended up on her lower lips, but luckily not on her attire.

The foreign taste made her silently exclaim but as she chewed, the familiar subtle sweetness of the mochi mixed almost harmonically with the taste of soybean powder. It was good, minus the mess and initial shock in taste. She could see herself eating more of these in the future, but her verdict was that the ones in East Kai were better (simply because they were sweeter).

Ashura Takara

The ashen-haired man was about to pick back up where he had left off, but instead of a warning, a sigh sounded from his mouth instead. The golden flecks in the princess’ eyes shone with such expectations for the wayward treat that he hadn’t had the heart to discourage her in any way. However, he also had the feeling that she would have disregarded his forewarning regardless, so he simply waved off any guilt in the end. Besides, the honey brunette had already placed her order with the shopkeeper. What’s done was done, right?

Turning back to his own issues at hand, Takara’s gaze drifted throughout the interior of the tea shop. Luckily, most of the actual goods within the store weren’t anything he was too unfamiliar with, but it still didn’t help him come to a final decision. There was no real rhyme or reason for it, but he had always been rather choosy—perhaps even meticulous—when it came to arranging his own food. However, in consideration for those already waiting outside of the tea shop, Takara ordered a quick impromptu selection of castella, sakura yokan, and hojicha. He admitted that castella and yokan were a strange combination, but they were all light in flavoring and reasonably fitting for the current season, so it would have to do.

With a carefully balanced plate of food in his hand, Takara glanced around the clearing for a suitable place to eat and rest. Due to spending a good two-thirds of his typical day in his family’s gardens hiding himself from the sun’s rays underneath the shade of a tree or within some niche or alcove was habitually ingrained within him when it came to resting up outdoors. However, the rainfall had long turned the ground muddy, and his coat would be soiled without a doubt. Luckily, there were several benches for use at anyone’s leisure strewn about the shopfront. He did take note of one peculiar sight, however.

It hadn’t taken long for Takara to notice the honey brunette sitting on a bench of her own just a few ways from where he was, but that wasn’t his current point of interest. Not exactly, anyway. The amount of space that she had left over on the bench was just enough to make room for him to sit right by her side. On one hand, it could have been a mere coincidence. On the other hand, it almost seemed as if she were suggesting—no, permitting—that his sitting there would be in no way presumptuous. Although he had no significant evidence to assume that she was of a haughty nature, a gut feeling told him that this current situation was of the latter.

How demanding. Takara bit back a chuckle. Too bad he wasn’t the type to bend to the will of others so easily.

Crossing the short distance between where he had been originally situated and the benches, the ashen-haired prince first placed his plate of food down on the bench directly opposite from the Fukami’s Princess before gesturing towards it. “I hope you don’t mind?” His emerald eyes held a near mischievous glint, although he took care to stay within the means of proper decorum and gentility.

Face to face he could do; side by side he could not. While he didn’t intend to brazenly make it a point, he hadn't planned on keeping that preference a closely guarded secret either. Besides, there was still the possibility that he was mistaken about his assumption. If she really had expected him to sit next to her, then she’d just have to take this as a compromise.
